Obama agenda: Are you better off?

Are you better off? No, President Obama says: “I don’t think that they’re better off than they were four years ago,” Obama said in an interview with ABC. “They’re not better off than they were before Lehman’s collapse, before the financial crisis, before this extraordinary recession that we’re going through. I think that what we’ve seen is that we’ve been able to make steady progress to stabilize the economy but the unemployment rate is still way too high.”

A majority think President Obama will not win reelection. They say so by a 55%-37% margin in a Washington Post/ABC poll.

A CBS poll finds: “Sixty-nine percent say the president has not made real progress on the economy, which voters overwhelmingly cite as their most important issue. Twenty-five percent say he has made real progress. Perceptions are not improving. The percentage who said Mr. Obama has made real progress has dropped 10 points from a survey 13 months ago, when 35 percent said he had made real progress.”

“The White House sent three pending trade agreements to Congress on Monday after reaching a deal with House Republican leaders,” The Hill reports. “The agreement will allow trade pacts with South Korea, Colombia and Panama to move forward, in addition to legislation to help workers who are hurt by increased trade.”

“A Silicon Valley investor and senior administration officials warned the White House to reconsider having President Obama visit a solar start-up company because of its mounting financial problems, saying he might be embarrassed later,” the Washington Post reports.

Obama, though, said he didn’t regret the Solyndra loan, per The Hill: "No, I don't, because if you look at the overall portfolio of loan guarantees that have been provided, overall it's doing well."

“Protests against Wall Street spread across the country yesterday as demonstrators marched on Federal Reserve banks and camped out in parks from Los Angeles to Portland, Maine, in a show of anger over the wobbly economy and what they see as corporate greed,” the Boston Globe reports. “In Manhattan, hundreds of protesters dressed as “corporate zombies’’ in white face paint lurched past the New York Stock Exchange clutching fistfuls of fake money. In Chicago, demonstrators pounded drums in the city’s financial district. Others pitched tents or waved protest signs at passing cars in Boston, St. Louis, and Kansas City, Mo.”

“First lady Michelle Obama will meet supporters who donate at least $250 at [Oct. 11] Washington, D.C., fundraiser for President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign,” Roll Call writes.

The majority of those polled think Obama won't be re-elected? Maybe because the news has been filled with nine al-Awlaki-like attackers hammering the President for the last six months. Think that might have anything to do with it?

I bet the real al-Awlaki thought Obama was beat-able too. Let's ask him - oh, that's right...he's stopped campaigning.

Maybe, just maybe, the Faux news misinformation machine has skewed those polled.

Here's a take on that. What Rupert doesn't want you to hear.

Other than the Big Corporations that are making the most profits in US history, who could possibly be better off in a recession that has been stalled very cunningly by Republican Leaders, by their own admission?

Since 2009, McConnell and Co. have bragged to the Press that their goal was to stop President Obama.

GOPTP goals: creating more tax breaks for their benefactors, deregulating financial reform, environmental reforms, handing back the driver's seat to health insurers, offshoring, laying off workers, cutting Education to zero, research and tech to zero, etc.

With the Republican Party, it is all about the money going into their pockets and nothing about helping the 98%.

That, and their re-election and their corporate funding.

When the corporate masters say 'go ahead, crash the economy, so much the better for us to privatize', these amoral GOp congressional sheisters will go ahead and deliver it for them.

Heck, they almost succeeded in closing the government down....3 times this year to get concessions they wanted. Who here seriously wants to live in service to the 1%?

They couldn't care less about you.

The republicans have not failed. Their goal was to obstruct and keep our country down. Because of the large debt the republicans ran up we are to kill unions, kill the new health care law, privatize medicare and begin the death of our so called unconstitutional program of social security. Lets not forget kill women's rights and any regulations protecting the people, the environment and minimum wage.

The republicans have stuck to their pledge to Norquist, except they are willing to raise the taxes of the working poor and middle class just not the rich. You know, starve the beast and its people.

The republicans have been so successful in keeping our country down, think what they could do to us if they get more power. Occupy everywhere protests are proof the people are tired of being under the thumb of the rich. No one protects the rich more that the republicans.

Of course Obama fails to mention that Dems controlled Congress from 06 and his party implemented the foolish "lets give everyone a house" policy championed by Reed, Pelosi, and Frank that ultimately broke the bank. These three forced lenders to finance mortgages to people with no hope of repaying the loans. They then planned to have the Government subsidise these defaulted loans and are in the process of doing that today.

Mitch, John, and Eric are building a wonderful obstructionist legacy.

The number of unclaimed bodies in NC went up 100% this year.

I wonder how their state's numbers are going?

Or, if they are just going for 1000%.

The polls were this bad for McCain and he lost, hummmmmmmmmmm

One day some will realize that Obama did make "changes" with his legislation (Obamacare) and that set into motion alot of uncertainty in business. Many posters lack the insight and really believe that the Rep and/or Dem have control over business- consumers do and they are NOT buying. In addition to that, with business uncertainty caused by of Prez, business have held off on expansion (the main driver is NO demand) and that is why our economy is STALLED. This will hurt the prez chances of reelection.

but all you in obamaland, be happy that gas has gone down (like the market and your 401K unless you moved your investments in time) and interest rates are down (if you are credit worthy).

as for unemployment, cost of food, health care cost- you know the stroy.

The young man gave an honest answer to a tough question, when is the last time you got an honest answer from a republican, and see them acknowledge their responsibility for the economy, or the debt. He gave a straight forward if not painful answer to a straight forward question. Plus he does not use the threat of terrorists to further a political agenda he just quietly smokes the terrorists. I will vote for an honest man who tries his best to make things better in America even if he fails over someone who tries their best to make things worse in America even if they succeed. I will vote for this decent young man in 2012, there is no doubt in my mind, given the republican choices, and the behavior of top republicans towards our president, no doubt at all. Obama 2012.

Atlas you are right about one thing small businesses are folding, because there is no demand. However every time the president attempts to spur a little demand to get the ball rolling again, republicans, insist on cutting the income of employees, cutting taxes for the business owners, and cutting regulations, none of which spurs demand, none of those things create a customer, if they did we would be booming right now. It is real easy to blame the failure of the economy which is actually due to the previous 8 years of republican policies and spending on the current president, who they proudly proclaimed they would hamstring, that is real easy, the problem is that it's not the truth, and more people every day realize that it is not the truth. I think even governor Christie now realizes it's not the truth, and is smart enough not to let Boehner, McConnel, Cantor and DeMint make him their next patsy for their ineptitude, and unwillingness to govern effectively.

Forrest - Haven't responded to any of your post lately, but please take some good advice from me and get out and smell the fresh air and have a good cup of coffee, maybe do about 50 push ups to get the blood flowing. Look around and talk to some real people instead of all the chatter from the left on First Read. People aren't buying since they have no money for much except the basics. Remember Obama's team has tried over $1 trillion in stimulus money and is asking for more. Obama's policies are not working and it has nothing to do with the Republicans, it is mostly the fault of Obama's ego (he thinks he is smarter than everyone else) and the team he assembled. Obama had a large majority in the Senate and House, he could have used that two years to work on jobs and the tax code, but no, he wasted it on a Health care law, a political pork filled stimulus packet, and bailing out his union supporters with GM and Chrysler.

Hey sarge, hope all is well with you. You are right people just have money for the basics, they need jobs to money in their pocket or there can be no demand, the government can in fact create some demand to get the ball rolling again by spending money on infrastructure. They have to spend some money if they want to have an effect, cutting taxes, does not put money in people's pockets, they are not working, no income means they pay no taxes, so how does a tax cut help them. They need jobs, and if republicans won't spend the money then they are at fault, they have to allow the government to purchase some of the goods and services it needs anyway, if they want to provide a path for workers to earn some money to spend, and create the demand the small businessmen so desperately needs. As much as you don't like it they need to spend some money, the low tax rates have been in place for 9 years, it does not help average Joe American, if it did we would not be having this discussion. The US government has always been a huge consumer in the US economy, if you shut that down you have a problem, because at the moment who is going to replace it as a customer. The government has to spend money on a domestic jobs program because big business woulds rather do it overseas, and the small businessman is dying a slow painful death at the hands of republican policies at this time in our economy. The banks were bailed out, wall street was bailed out, now you can bail out two birds with one big pile of money for a huge jobs bill, the American people and the American small businessman. It is the only way the small businessman that does not deal in the necessities can survive, he needs people in his community with a little disposable income to spend with him. They have to get the wallet out Sarge, if they want to help that is what they have to do.

Were most people better off during Clinton? Was the country better off before the Iraq war? Yes!

Really the Recession in 2001 and Bush/Cheney administration was the beginning of decline. The housing bubble gave everyone a temporary and artificial sense of well-being, thanks to the toxic mortgage securities on Wall Street and Republican deregulation. Those who made money in the housing industry aren't doing so well now, and many are underwater on their mortgages.

At least the Dems have been trying to turn the economy around. At least the president has provided a solid, viable jobs plan. While the Do Nothing Teapublicans in congress obstruct.

So the question is were you better off under Republicans or Democrats and which do you want to be under for the next four years? Obama/Biden - 2012!

        #1.14 - Tue Oct 4, 2011 4:44 PM EDT

I know a lot of people still want to blame the Republicans, or Bush, or banks or Wall Street or antone else other than Obama and the Democrats for the current economics problems, but I think they, and we all, should take a look at the bigger picture. It's not just one person or group that is the cause of it all. It's the whole corrupt lot of them combined that has caused this. And, it's a combination of greed, ideology, narcissism, egomania, lust for power, and a number of other things that exist inside their insulated political world in Washington that have given them the idea that they can all force their will on the American people with few or no consequences. Let's also no leave out the lack of education as well as the greed and ingorance of the American people themselves that has also helped to facilitate the mess we're in as a nation... The problems we face today didn't just start in the last 10 or 12 years, or during the Clinton, Bush Sr., Reagan, Carter, Ford or nixon administrations either. It's been going on for over 100 years and has been nurtured by various people and groups the whole time as far back as 1905. Read the history...

More recently though, in regards to the latest mess of the economy; it wasn't the Bush administration that implemented the legislation which caused the bubble and later collapse of the housing market through federal regulations and setting up fannie mae and freddie mac. That was actually pushed through during the Clinton administration and was largely thought up and later protected by one Barney Frank, a Democrat among others. Let us not forget though, that it was voted on and passed into law by members of both major political parties in Congress or it would not have been possible in the first place. Also involved in that fiasco was one Alan Greenspan, who was Chairman of the Federal Reserve at the time. This was back in the 1990's.

Many of the problems facing the healthcare debacle were aided in maturation by Edward Kenedy back in the 1980's when the whole HMO situation came about. He was actually the primary force in autoring the bill that was later passed into law, which of course, greatly encriged the health insurers who have donated heavily to BOTH major political parties elections/re-elections with the intent of gaining favor from those they gave money to,, and also to have input into exactly what these bills entailed. It is widely agreed that our antions' healthcare system is afflicted, inefficient, and expensive. But more government regulations and especially government control over the healthcare system at large, is NOT the answer. Especially when it is these same insurance companies that send hundreds of lobbyists and spend untold amounts of money to gain access to Washington politiciansin order to collude with them on exactly what is put into these massive legislative packages. It's the exact same cirumstances with any major or international corporation. They whisper into the ears of Washington insider politicians and tll them basically what to write into the bills. This is exactly the tactic they use to make it all but impossible for small businesses to compete with them in the marketplace. They simply have these political charlatans do away with any competition for them through legislation that benefits only them. In return, they donate vast amounts of cash into political campaigns of politicians on both sides of the aisle in Congresswich is then used to beat out any honest and honorable candidates who would actually work to change things for the better..... They understand, all too well, that without these corrupt charlatans in republican and democrat clothing, they would have to actually compete on a level paying field and too many of them cannot compete. It's called corporate welfare and it happens every day. It would come as a surprize to many out there, but British Petroleum has been one of the largest and most prolific donors to the Obama campaign all the way down the line. Wasn't that the company that had a well explode and spilled massive amounts of oil into the Gulf of Mexico????? Damn right it was! And then it took him almost three months to even respond to it after it happened, onlu to trash energy exploration companies everwhere! Of course, he also made brash speeches about finding ways for America to become "energy independent",,,,, one whole day before flying of to Brazil and working up a deal with the Brazilian government to go out into the gulf and drill for oil in the exact same place his administration prohibited American companies from drill in, and told the Brazilian government that he wants America to be their biggest customer...... The saddest part of it all is that the American people bought it, hook, line, and sinker,,,on dry land.. How gullible are we?

Let's also not leave out "trial lawyers" who have always stood to gain from anything that has ever been passed down the pipes. I can remember a time when these parisites were considered frauds and "ambulance chasers" instead of genuine practitioners of law. Nowadays, they advertise on TV, radio, magazines, news papers, and billboards all across the nation, telling anyone who will buy into their BS that they are all victims of someone or some thing and that they will "get you the money you deserve or you'll pay them nothing". The money you deserve for what? Even criminals who violate the laws of the nation, greedily and savagely victimize and brutalize innocent people, are courted by these charlatans! And, may God have mercy on the poor man or woman who uses a firearm to stop one of those predators in their own self defense. If that happens then the victim who protect himself/herself from the criminal is going to be sued in civil corut by the same deviant predator who attacked them, if he or she survives.... Look at the tobacco lawsuits from the 1990's.... It wasn't these poor children who benefitted from that through improved healthcare at the expense of tobacco companies at all..... It was the federal government and the pack of trail lawyers who took the whole case to court who benefitted when they were paid billions. The federal government is still benefitting from it today through taxes and everything else that they collect from those companies. Another case I know of is one where a trail lawyer in Florida sued the city of Jacksonville and the courts forced the city to build a running path alongside a busy thorougfare in his naighborhood so "he, and other joggers of course, could have a safe place in which to jog without fear of being hit by a passing car. The city ended up spending several hundred thousand dollars to build a nice smooth paved jogging path for them. Sound great,,,, that is until he refused to use it and continued to run on the same exact street he complained and sued the city over to begin with. His response, when asked why he refused to utilize the jogging path he, himself, sued the city to build, was simply: "I am free to run wherever I choose, and I want to jog on the street, it's my choice to make". When further asked what would happen if he was hit by a moving vehicle after refused to use the path he sued to have put in place, his response was: "If I am hit by a car, then that will be taken up and settled in court." Of course, these same types of parasitic "ambulance chasers" are one of the largest donors to democrat AND republican political compaigns across the nation. Is it any wonder they inevitably end up on the recieving end of any largesse from the federal government once it's confiscated from businesses and coporations?

Then there is the ignorance and illiteracy of the American people today. Not to say that Americans cannot read or write.... Of course we can, but we are also functionally illiterate when it come the the history of our nation and an abject lack of knowlege in regards to our government, our judicial system, our Consitution, and our own national history, how and where we came from and how far we've come as a nation since 1513 when Ponce De Leon first stepped foot on the Florida mainland,,, or 1620 when the pilgrims first set foot on the shore at Plymouth Rock, or even Jamestown Viginia when the first permanent colony of that state was started there. Who in America today really has actually read our own Constitution, or has read books about all the struggles and triumphs this nation had faced since the American Revolution? It's not a false statement that; those who forget their own history, or never learned it in the first place, are doomed to repeat it and inevitably suffer in the process... Our education system in the United States has become so politically correct and children hardly even learn the true history of the country anymore. They ahve no idea even why most things that have occurred here since before Christopher Columbus even set sail across the Atlantic even happened. Hell most can't even tell you who there congressional representative,,, or even the Vice President of the United States is..... And I'm talking about hgih school and college students. I recently took a professorial history exam online where the average score for student taking history classes, at the collegiate level, was 44%. More frightening still, was the fact the the average score for the professors themselves, the once who are actually supposed to know enough to "TEACH" the courses was only 55%. I took the test and scored 97% out of 100,,,, and I have never spent a single day inside a univeristy classroom. It is totally demoralizing to know that yong people in America today don't have the knowlege to get a passing score on on a simple history test that someone who tested for and earned a G.E.D., and then went straight to work at 18 years old scores 97% after not having been in a classroom for over 30 years. These are the people who are getting degrees handed to them at graduation and become doctors. businessmen, lawyers, and politicians!!!! Is it any wonder at all why we are in such a mess? Not to me.....

But of course, I'm labeled as racist, NAZI, extremist, hillbilly, redneck, hate monger, homophobe, religious zealot, ignorant, terrorist, and any number of other pejoritives by sceular/socialist/marxist/ "progressive" out there with whom my views differ. I've found it very difficult to even have a logical debate with many people that is based on facts and logic just due to the fact that they instantly begin to start calling names and doing all in their power to shout down and silence any whith who they disagree. And we are told that Bush and republicans are the cause of all the ills of the world. I believe that there are a lot more than just Bush and republicans who have done their part in causing the decline of America in the world, and until all accept responsibility for their own role, and educate themselves on the true history of America, and realize that government is NOT the answer to all problems and take responsibility for fixing their own problems as much as it is in their power to do so, thngs will not improve any time soon..... That goes for every American out there, no matter what political party, career, sex, creed, gender, ethnicity, or background. Government is, in it's best form, a necessary evil, and in it's worst form, an unbearable tyranny which much be shaken off. It produces nothing but ever increasing regulation and craves nothing but ever increasing power and control over all within it's sphere of influence. The founders knew this all too well, and that is precisely why they framed the Constitution the way they did, with the federal govrnment having very limited and defined powers, with all other powers not specifically delegated to it remaining with the individual states, or to the people..... Far far too many of us have forgotten that one smiple fact, and we had better damn well remember it again soon or we are all in for a future worse than any dare to even contemplate in the United States... All that is necessary to uderstand that is to look back into history and see how often and where it's all happened before. Don't take my word for it, do the research. Take a trip to a local library and check out books and actually read and learn. It's all there and there is nothing new under the sun...

Richard the average time to recover from a recession is 11 months.

"The nine recessions since WWII ranged from 6 to 16 months with an average of 11 months." From National Burea of Economic Research.

So the Democrat recession which started after the Dems took over congress in 2006 has last somewhat longer, than average.

Frankusa you forgot to add in the factor of the republicans obstructing any bill that might do something for America.

The cuts only and not raising any revenue is designed to keep America in recession. Making more cuts to pay for disaster relief is just a way to make the people suffer more.

You keep pretending that this is a normal recession when both parties wanted the country to succeed. Right now the republicans are fighting against America to make sure the rich sacrifice nothing and don't really care if America fails. Republicans have even signed a pledge with Norquist to aid him in killing America.

Somehow this is the Democrats fault?

The recent obstruction came after all the fixes and plans were passed and we were in the financial hole we are in. There was no desire to pay for anything when the Porkulus bill was passed. Now it is the GOP fault we are in debt?

BHO put out an awful plan, spent us into a hole, and rammed it through without a single GOP vote in the House. It failed terribly and now he want a second shot at it with an additional $500 Billion pricetag, and wants the GOP taxpayers to foot the bill for something they believe will fail as bad as the first one did. How many shots can we give him at $500+ billion dollars a shot?

and frighten all who see or hear
the cry goes up both far and near
          for Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! Underdog!

speed of lightning, roar of thunder
fighting all who rob or plunder
          Underdog. Underdog!

when in this world the headlines read
of those whose hearts are filled with greed
who rob and steal from those who need
to right this wrong with blinding speed
          goes Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! Underdog!

speed of lightning, roar of thunder

Well, Rob, I'm glad you're getting the message - Obama is a warrior for middleclass and the Republicans do nothing but protect the low tax rates of the top 1%. Spread the word.

Some folks can't get enough of a recession:

"Every night I dream of another recession," Rastani said, and explained that it's possible to make huge money from a big crisis even when millions of others lose their life savings, and worse.

The middle class and poor have fared worse under Obama, if that is the result of him being a warrior for us, maybe he should switch to the other side, so we can be better off.

I think it's so funny Republicans like to state "government has never created a single job" yet they hold Obama accountble for the fact the 3.5 million jobs lost in Bush's last year in office haven't all come back. I bet they'd like to make Obama retroactively responsible for those lost jobs as well.

The question is are "you" better off. If some one answers it, it is not debatable. It is theirs, not yours. Why start with all the crap that comes with some one say this guy in office has failed and I am not better off because of him and his agenda. He is done. But your hate for the right will never fail, are you better off?

          MRWSR.

The question is are "you" better off.

Yes! I AM better off! Yes! Yes! Yes! President Obama is the American leader I have been looking for my whole life. Understand, I grew up during the Nixon years, so my intial view of politics was very bleak. I agreed with Jimmy Carter's stand on getting off oil, but he wasn't a gifted politician, and he couldn't inspire the country to change. I admired Bill Clinton's stand on Bosnia, and his intelligence, but his personal life eclipsed his political skills, towards the end.

Now we have President Obama, strong, intelligent, gifted and stable. I LIKE this guy. He's my President. "At Last" was the song he and Michelle danced to on inauguration night, but it pretty much sums up how I feel too. AT LAST we have a President who stands for something great, who has worked to make this a SAFE and prosperous country. Yes! I'm better off than I was under Bush. Yes I AM!

Speaking of Reagan, did you see the clips on the ED show last night? Where Reagan was saying that taxes are SUPPOSED to be higher on the wealthier people? That it was UNPATRIOTIC to think otherwise? Obama and Reagan? Same ideas on taxes? Who'd a thunk?

This will all change in October 2012 when the economy is moving forward at a better clip and the answer to that questions is "Yes things are better today than they were four years ago!" He is polling good for having 9 people constantly attack him in public. Until he has a real person to campaign against his polling will keep suffering. However there is no "GOP candidate." It is a Perry, Romney, Paul or Bachmann and that will give Obama a win in 2012.

You can ignore the economic facts if you like. But, the unemployment rate is at recession levels and no indication that will change. The economy, housing, and employment are weak at best. The national debt is increasing at the highest rate ever under Obama. The economy will not improve in the next 14 months due to the anti-capitalism policies of the Obama administration. The short term "sugar" highs known as "stimulus" have failed and Obama's new "stimulus" short term "sugar" pill does not even have Democratic support. Obama and his "talking" points are getting old and will get older as the election nears. Even the "blame Bush" excuse won't fly much longer. Obama's poor leadership ability will catch up to him.

"Sixty-nine percent say the president has not made real progress on the economy, which voters overwhelmingly cite as their most important issue:

2/3's of the original stimulus, demanded by the gop for passage, went to tax cuts not job creation - and this is the president's fault?

the president's american jobs act to create jobs repairing schools, hiring returning veterans and infrastructure and was declared dead on arrival by the house gop - and this is the president's fault?

time after time, any help to improve the economy, has been rejected by the gop - and this is the president's fault?

blaming the president for what was created by the gop who then was determined to obstruct everything to improve the damaged economy they created is exactly what the gop hopes. "fool me twice..." is exactly what the gop is counting on!

              sbv,

I dont believe the original stimulus had any provisions "demanded" by the GOP. I dont recall, so enlighten me.

How many GOP House members supported this stimulus package? ZERO???? But they had a hand in its content? But still all voted against it???

Has President's job act gotten to the House? Im sorry, I must have missed where Reid brought it to a vote in the Senate and sent it over to the House. When did this happen? When is the vote scheduled in the Democrat controlled Senate?? Even the Dems in the Senate are blocking this POS bill. They know it is a party killer.

The GOP in the House is doing their job, by blocking the insane attemtps to spend us further down the Rat Hole BHO has us in. His attemps at economic policy are misguided and wrong. We voted this stopping force in place to keep him from completely destroying the country prior to being able to vote him out. They are doing their job, as mandated by the American people. I applaud them, and extole them to keep up the good work.

So, in short, on item 1 you are wrong, and item 2 you are wrong, and on item 3 your are wrong as nothing he has proposed will help the economy. The rejection is by design.

And yes, it is the President's fault.

1 million young adults were added to the number of people with health insurance in this country.

If you get sick, you can no longer be dropped by your insurance company. There are no more caps on what an insurance company will pay over your lifetime. If you have a pre-existing condition, you can no longer be denied coverage.

All three American automobile companies are profitable again for the first time since 2004.

If you are gay, you no longer have to lie about your sexuality to serve in the military.

              Ana, yes, that record.

As far as his record with the terrorists, I will give him props. Good job.

The 1 million on insurance and not being able to be dropped is just adding tot he cost for everyone else. It is more socialism, as those not affected get to pay for those others. Like it or not, it is the way it is perceived.

The auto companies are profitable again, but at what expense? The taxpayers. I would never buy a GM car anyway, so it is regardless. But free markets should not be interferred with. And they wont be profitable for long. The unions will make sure of it.

Gays have no place in the military. I have extreme views on this, but as normal person, would not join the military with and open policy on gays. I am sure we will keep some dedicated normal soldiers from joining due to this stupid open policy. I think open acceptance of a deviant lifestyle is wrong and helps perpetuate it. But that is a different conversation to have. But opening up the military to fruits and nutz I do not see as a positive.

And (you forgot to mention) the TRILLIONS of dollars of additional debt.

The terribly high unemployment rate, and not likely to recede anytime soon.

Pending inflation by bad monetary policy. Gas and oil at elevated levels and not likely to ever get back to reasonable due to the lower currency value and no added capacity due to regulations.

              etc etc etc.

He inherited a recession. He did nothing to fix it. Health care, auto bailouts, gays in the military did what for the econimic viability of the American voter? When he had supermajorities and could have pushed things he touted as solutions (right or wrong) and got them through without issue, he passed a stimulus which failed and Obamacare which is unpopular.

He has his accomplishments (most of which I do not agree with) but he accomplished things that should have been secondary to the economy. And the anger of the people who have lived through these last 3 years with him at the helm has a price.

He has a record. It says he was more concerned with things that the American people were not concerned about, and didnt address the things we were concerned about. He spent us into a hole and had our country's credit downgraded. He spend record amounts of money, and unemployment is still way high and no end in sight. Inflation is real and wages are going down. He had a free run the first 2 years as he had a Dem Congress. He spent way too much money on programs we were against and did nothing to help the economy. So the House was changed in the last election to slow him down. Now we are broke with no money left to throw at the problem, and no one trusts his economic solutions anyway after the 1 Trillion dollar boondoggle stimulus. And his stance on corporations an business makes them hunker down, rather than expand and spend.

Killing 1 terrorist every 15 months is not going to save him the facts that economically he has been a failure. Bigger than Carter. I had hoped to never see one as bad as Carter, and thought statistically he was bottom of the barrel. Unfortunately I was wrong, as Obama has been much worse, and the effects will be felt for a very long time.

He has many items on his record fro the first 3 years but....To coin a phrase I heard while back:

              "It's the Economy, Stupid"

And nothing he has done has addressed it, while most of his policies are perpetuating it. This latest attempt will not be passed as it is viewed as more spending for no results. We were sold a bill of good on the first stimulus, and it was wrong. No one will commit to more spending for him to experiment with solutions without a track record of success. He has no economic success, and will not be given any more bullets to fire at the target due to his lack of success with the first trillion bullets. And even his own party will keep the money out of his hands, and any further failures will kill the entire party if they give it to him.

The answer is no one is better off. The economic facts are clear. The economy, housing and employment are weak with unemployment at recession levels. Obama has been in office for 33 months and bragged about his ability to "fix" the economy when he was elected. Obama has clearly failed with his big government "sugar" pill approach. The results have been massive national debt. The economy will not improve with this administration and its anti-capitalism approach. Obama will spent the next 14 months trying ti "talk" his way out of his failures. You can expect more exaggerations, misinformation when it comes to solutions other than his so far failed solutions. Obama and the Democrats will also continue to misrepresent what anyone says that disagrees with their failed approach over the last 33 months.

Failed approach? Funny how the republicans never want to claim the role of obstruction they have played in keeping America down.

Interesting the republicans keep us down and it is the failed approach of the Democrats is to blame. Then you have your faux propaganda machine going 24/7 blaming everyone but the guilty.

I liked the Reagan idea from his speech, it is patriotic to pay taxes to your country. Reagan may lose his sainthood over this. Especially being that the present day republicans think that taxes are class warfare and anything but patriotic.

              I disagree,

I am the first to admit that I voted GOP in 2010 in an attempt to obstruct the progress of BHO. He was putting us in a hole were would never be able to get out of (and it still may be too late). I knew the House would not be able to pass anything past the Senate or President. The ENTIRE IDEA was to obstruct his destructive march into the abyss.

I am GOP and take full responsibility and claim to the obstruction of the Obama agenda.

              You can thank me later...

As far as taxes, I dont think the GOP would be so against them if the Dems would pay their share too. Face it, the poor and lower class vote predominately Democrat. It is a large block of voters. Blacks are 95% for Obama by last count. But they are also disporportionately a large percentage of the poor and working poor. These people pay no taxes. In fact, in most instances they are given a refund check in an amount they didnt even pay in. Where does this money come from? Disproportionately from the taxes of the GOP taxpayers.

So taxes are class warfare, like it or not. The idea of continuing to pay for the votes of the untaxed from the pockets of the taxed in an attempt to further bolster a voting base of untaxed is wrong, and it needs to stop. And any attempt to push this scale to further burder those already footing the bill is class warfare. It is an attempt to punish those that are currently doing their part, to further favor those that are contributing nothing.

You want to promote Patriotism? Have EVERYONE pay taxes of some sort. Not predominately soak the GOP to pay for the votes of the DEM poor.

Now since you Democrats/Liberals/Progressives always tout that the Republicans are to blame for Obama's failures WHY IS IT BUSH'S FAULT? The answer is truly no as he said. In 2012 we can wash him down the drain.

When do we get to experience Obama's agenda?

We elected him *because* of healthcare and the economy.  I still have no problem with his agenda.  My problems surrounding this Presidency are:

-Republicans using the filibuster to crush anything the man was elected to accomplish.

-Republicans, after doing the above, claiming Obama's agenda is in place, and that it's failed.  It hasn't been permitted to happen yet.

-Voters allowing themselves to believe anything a Republican in Washington says about the "Obama agenda" being in place.

-Voters not showing up in 2008, and giving the media a chance to think our opinion of him had changed.

If America elects a Republican President and Republican congress, I expect to see conservative laws passed for 4 years.   If the opposite happens, I expect to see that agenda respected also for 4 years.  What we have now is this:

-(2000-2008) Republican Administrations doing whatever they please, with no concern to our Nation's debt.

-(2008+)  Billionaires controlling both public opinion and the Republicans they've bought to ensure 2000-2008 continues and that our Republic is compromised in their favor.

                  What a country.

Thank you for speaking for those of us who vote republican. You sir are pompass and need to know that conservative values will prevail in this upcomming eleciton. The Tea Party will be out in full force and make sure he is fired. Then you will have the next 4 years, after we fix things, to write a book on the how it was what obama did during his term that fixed the economy.

Exactly! And don't hand me that "Obamacare" BS. Health insurance is still owned entirely by the insurance industry - isn't that "capitalism"?

I am sick and tired of the Republicans "telling people what to be afraid of and who's to blame for it" ("I am Andrew Shepherd, and I am the President.")

Repubicans or Democrats in political office don't tell me how to think, I still have that freedom. I did not vote for Obama in 2008 because his agenda did not meet my way of thinking. I a few weeks I'll probably be voting for a Democrat to carry on as the governor of my state. I like his agenda and feel he is honest. The Democrat or Republican presidential candidates are going to have show me they can get this country back on it's feet.

NO, most Americans are Not better off than they were in 2008.

Most Americans are laid off; or lost their jobs completely; unemployed for more than a year; or have taken huge pay cuts to keep their jobs.

We've got a flipl-flopping president who is not a leader at all. He has not principles. He's just a front-man for Pelosi and Van Jones' agenda.

This president has wasted Billions of taxdollars between the failed stimulus and the loans to Solyndra, Evergreen Solar, Stirling Energy Systems who still went bankrupt.

Obama fooled voters and now we're paying for it.

FormerRepublican, You forget........Obama had both Houses in Congress for 2 years. Obama's failures are his failures. Blaming Republicans doesn't work anymore. The American people are tired. They want a LEADER, not a BLAMER. Obama muddied the water in D.C. when he told the Republicans to "sit in the back." They had no say in the healthcare debacle. That's why it will get repealed. 66% of the American people did NOT want it and it was shoved through regardless ( behind closed doors) . Pelosi/Reid/Obama agenda is being REJECTED.

Obama will be reelected -- not because he's done such a great job but because the Republican party si controlled by a bunch of crazies with NO answers to anything.

Here are the facts the kool aid drunks don't like.......Obama is a BLAMER, he's NOT a LEADER. That's why he got nothing positive accomplished. The American people need JOBS. Obama, instead worked on healthcare for 2 years. Now it will get repealed because it does NOT work to keep costs down.

All the bills that the Republicans in the House passed are sitting in the Senate because Harry Reid won't bring them to a vote . He's afraid his own Dems WILL vote with the Republicans.

Obama's "jobs bill" is not coming up for a vote in the Senate because Harry Reid is afraid his Dems WON'T vote for it.

leona as i earlier undercut every argument you have because it's base on the fact you believe obama had majorities in both houses which isn't the case...that why he has had to kiss ass to get anything done....60 vote threshold in senate....damn folks....with a rubber stamp congress or the newt congress with clinton which was at least reasonable...we won't have the problem...the knuckledraggers in the g.o.p are the problem...no no no...country third there motto...
