DES MOINES, Iowa –- Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz says the Republican Party is more worried about beating President Barack Obama than about creating jobs.
“So far, they only appear to care about one job -- Barack Obama’s -- and Democrats care about American jobs,” Wasserman-Schultz said this afternoon during a press avail.
The chairwoman is spending the weekend in the Hawkeye State not only campaigning for a few Members of Congress but also pushing for passage of the president’s American Jobs Act.
“The benefit of the American Jobs Act, not only would it be a shot in the arm for the economy, but President Obama proposed it with it being fully paid for," Wasserman-Schultz said. "We are confident. We can’t afford to wait. We can’t spend months or weeks waiting for scores. We need to act. The American people need jobs now."
It's unclear, however, how the measure would be paid for. The president tasked the joint "supercommittee" with finding a way to do so.
She contended Republicans in Congress want to beat Obama at the expense of the U.S. economy. A lot of the problems, Wasserman-Schultz said, come from the Tea Party and what she said was a lack of leadership by Speaker John Boehner to allow a small group of members to dictate what his caucus will or will not support.
“They are willing to allow the economy to remain stagnant for another 14 months and not move forward together in recovery in order to just be able to regain the White House,” Wasserman-Schultz said about the Republicans not supporting Obama's jobs act.
Of course, she also weighed in on the 2012 GOP presidential race while speaking to reporters at Drake University. After all, she was in that all-important first-in-the-nation caucus state.
“They are really all the same," the Florida congresswoman said. "It doesn’t really much matter which one of them wins the primary. They can’t out right wing the other enough."
The DNC chair, who only mentioned GOP contenders Rick Perry and Mitt Romney by name once, says she is confident that President Obama will win reelection and believes that Democrats can take back the House of Representatives, as well. She said she plans to be back in Iowa a few times next year.

This should have said
“So far, Barack Obama only appears to care about one job -- Barack Obama’s -- and nobody including Democrats like Harry Reid cares about his American jobs bill,” Wasserman-Schultz said this afternoon during a press avail.
Wasserface who?
Another liberal idiot without a clue.
Now, is not passed tense.
Neither is 'passed'.
REB, that's not what I heard.
GOPTP strategy is to hold hostage millions of jobs and the economic recovery of the USA, at any cost to ordinary Americans,
~ in the hopes of one man losing his job.
Navy - go back to being "on assignment". We all hope one man loses his job so the millions you talk about can get theirs back!
Reb -- Go back under the rock you crawled out from.
REB
Will they get their jobs back by newly-elected Republican Governors firing thousands of public employees - 600,000 so far?
Will they get their jobs back via deregulation, defunding financial regulations, defunding health care, getting rid of environmental protections, extending tax breaks in the form of loopholes and get-arounds to the tune of $billions to companies that are making the most profits ever in US history and some paying zero effective taxes ~ and are not hiring, but firing thousands, eg Koch Oil.
Will they get their jobs back by putting the welfare of 1% super-rich ~ the wealthiest group ever in the history of the world ~ before their own needs?
Will they get their jobs back by GOP Congressionals doing nothing/continuing to filibuster at 3times the pace ever seen in US history and/or blocking Jobs bills - they've blocked 4 Jobs Bills so far this year.
Will they get their jobs back by ending disaster relief, cutting more $billions from Education, cutting health treatment to rural families?
Will they get their jobs back by GOPTP holding the country hostage every couple of months, so they can get around the democratic process and get concessions they would not already get nohow?
Will they get their jobs back by ending the Child Labor Laws, and ending collective bargaining and negotiation that has worked well for Management and Labor for a century?
Will they get their jobs back by declaring emergencies and putting in Emergency Managers that are unqualified to do diddlysquat, but gives them powers to over-ride elected local officials and do what they feel like doing with our towns ~ just because the Governor appointed them?
Will they get their jobs back because GOP is making voting harder, absentee voting is harder, same day voting harder and access to IDs is harder? Doesn't every citizen have the right to vote under the constitution?
Will they get their jobs back because Governors refuse monies to build rail services and create thousands of jobs?
Will they get their jobs back when the House only work three days a week for two weeks~~ and then goes home for a week?
REB, What will it TAKE?
PASS THE AMERICAN JOBS ACT!
PUT MILLIONS OUR AMERICAN FAMILY BACK TO WORK!
Tell Congress, no excuses!
Navy - It will take the opposite of whatever your guys will do and you know it. You have to stop the free handouts to the public unions and the construction unions. Stop the Boeing insanity, cut down on the job killing regulations that your guy is putting out by the 1000's every and above all stop the massive job killing Obama care. We are a country and a people who know how to take care of ourselves. We do not need to create a people of handout takers.
That's what it will take.
"GOP wants to beat Obama at expense of economy"
The GOP says they want to beat Obama to SAVE the economy.
Republicans 2012
Keeping Millions Out of Work
To Get One Man Out of A Job
Deb, You're incoherent with your tea people rants. Hate and the same old talking points from the last three years doesn't make a coherent post.
Republicans will put millions back to work if we can get that one man out of his job!
Clear as rocky mtn water: republicans polarized to the point of stupid (deseased). The shame of decades of corporate sponsored legislation has caught up with them. The corporations and their duped republican party followers, at this point in history, have only to continue to divide americans and hope for the best. Obama has shown rightousness in everything he has done and said. EVERYTHING. If I were a republican, I would be ashamed to admit it.
This is truly a load of bull.
2nd grade response.
You avoid the fact that super-rich corporations and the wealthiest 400 individuals in the United States of America find a way to pay zero taxes. People paying capital gains pay way less than ordinary people.
What is 'job-killing' is corporations making the most profits ever in US history, are not hiring, they are firing.
What is 'job-killing' is firing hundreds of thousands of public employees and shifting that money to tax breaks for corporations, firing teachers and shifting that money to tax breaks for corporations, cutting $Billions from Education and shifting that money to corporations.
What is 'job-killing' is killing Jobs Bills as the Rs have done in Congress this year.
What is 'job-killing' is sending 2.4million jobs overseas.
What is 'job-killing' is holding the country hostage every few months to try and lever concessions that you could not otherwise get.
What is 'job-killing' is threatening to shut the government down a lot and threatening not to raise the debt ceiling, which causes lack of confidence in US investments and S&P downgrade.
What is 'job-killing' is GOP having zero plan of their own, and messing about wasting time with the Jobs Bills that will put millions of constructions workers back to work fixing our infrastructure before it falls into dust.
What is 'job-killing' is putting all your energy into protecting and supporting shelters that benefit the vast majority of the super-wealthy who pay lower effective rates than the middle class....
instead of creating jobs and getting the economy up and running and on track right away.
Let's pass the American Jobs Act!
Let's put our teachers, constructions workers, police, first responders back on the job!
Congress pass the AJA and put millions back to work!
The simple truth is that Obama is at war with business (a record 81,000 pages of new regulations in his first year alone - 2009). What business in their right mind would hire more workers in this anti-business climate where all Obama knows how to do is raise their taxes and impose more stringent rules on anyone trying to improve the economy?
How's that "Change we can believe in" with skyrocketing unemployment and debt working for YOU?
Who do you thinks will have to pay back that debt - with interest? YOUR CHILDREN. Do you think they're going to appreciate the debt payments you're sticking them with?
See the American Jobs Act on helping businesses big and small. Go on the whitehouse website for the 30-month long history of support for businesses by this Adminstration. See for yourself.
Don't just take Luke Wilson's word for anything at all.
In plain sight, GOPTP and the corporations they speak for and answer to, demonstrate that they're relentlessy ANTI-worker, and ANTI- middle class.
Their goal is to privatize America and put it in the hands of For-Profit Business.
To this end, anything goes with the corporate right to prevent the economic recovery of the United States and to prevent job creation in the USA.
The top 1% is currently making the most profits in the history of USA and are the wealthiest group ever to exist in the history of the world.
GOP acting on behalf of corporations wants to defund financial regulations, consumer protections, environmental protections, health care reform, is gutting Education, the list is long.
Right wing governors across the country continue to lay off hundreds of thousands of Americans under the pretext of budget cuts, while shifting the money to tax breaks for corporations.
Right wing governors (eg MI) are replacing elected town officials with unqualified Emergency Managers to do their bidding ~ close schools, or whatever they feel like doing because the Governor appointed them unilaterally to act on behalf of the GOP anti-worker agenda.
GOP is making voting harder, absentee voting is harder, same day voting harder and access to IDs is harder? Doesn't every citizen have the right to vote under the constitution?
The right wing is pushing for-profit prisons to detain those who disagree with their anti-American, anti-democratic agenda.
Wages will be super-low to prisoners and with few benefits, won't they?
Is that the kind of pro-business you were talking about?
You tell'em Debbie!
Forrest - nobody's listening!!
At your peril Reb.
Reb, No one listens to Debbie Wasserman-Schultz either! Except maybe Forrest and Carrot Top!
Yeah well it is not so much I listen to her as it is the DNC just calls me and asks what do you think Forrest, thats exactly why she said what I have been saying for weeks, I now direct the DNC. HA Don't kid yourself, and don't think I am kidding when I tell you many people are hearing what she is saying, and she is hearing what many people are saying, republicans can ignore it if they wish, they would be wise not to.
Forrest
I believe you are one of two people listening to the DNC right now.
Believe as you wish Reb, but there are millions listening from young to old that is a fact.
We shall see what we shall see but don't hold your breath unless you are tired of smelling the BS that BHO is selling.
Who is going to beat him Reb, I honestly doubt any of your current candidates can.
I have to say, the young people HATE Obama. I sit in classes every night with ppl between 23-30 (all ph.d students) and hear them all wish Obama out of office.
Who care what a few people taking night classes in the Personal Hygene. Dept thinks, they sound kind of creepy.
The people that know proper grammar unlike yourself! LOL, read your sentence! Besides everyone in those classes will be global leaders considering it is a Big 10 university. I guess people like you who don't work, must have time to go to classes during the day? I'm sure your on government hand outs too!
Obama is working tirelessly on creating jobs and big tech companiessuch Microsoft, HP, Intel and others have job vacancies. The salaries are very good.Good grammar Sam, I have at least 75 brilliant young men and women with all sorts of degrees every month, who want to get hired by my employers and join my labor union, because they can't find a job with their degree, or just because they want to make some decent wages and benefits. That is sad but it is true, if my employers mention they are hiring young people will literally be lined up around the entire building and heading down the block, a lot of them have degrees, many have engineering degrees, but they now want to work and sweat their butts off for 50 bucks an hour like I do because their degrees are useless right now. It is a damn shame but that is the sad truth.
There are more engineering opening in America today then ever in the past. Do not act like enginers cannot get work in America today. Companies in America are begging for enginers, that is exactly why they look for enginers over seas. Enginers are recruited their sophmore year of college b/c the market is lacking. If people want their degrees to mean something then they should stay way from art, music, sociology, psy, and other non-tangible skills. Degrees such as math, accounting, engineering, business are in more demand today then in the past. Thats a fact, employers want something tangible, not just a branded way of thinking.
As for unions, I'm one of the few republicans that believe unions are instrumental in American employment and I think collective bargaining should be stregthen. I'm not 100% sure that workers understand how important unions are.
I certainly appreciate your stance on unions, very much so, but honestly they go overseas for engineering now because it is cheap labor and in today's electronic cyber world it is easy to quickly transmit graphical data, unfortunately there does not appear to a shortage of engineers from my vantage point. There is so much we need to doing I wish more of these bright young people would get the chance to do it.
http://www.forbes.com/2009/06/03/hard-jobs-fill-leadership-careers-employment.html
There are literally 100's of articles out there talking about the job gult in math based fields. I wish I could find an article from the white house when they got together with Cree ceo Chuck Swoboda, He is giving American high school students FREE college if they commit to a math based degree (engineering, finance, accounting, math, physics) if they will commit to his company for 5 years with a base pay of 165k, full benefits, and a retirement program. Last i heard, students were turning down the offer and the program was only 30% full.
But for basic telephone software engineers it is much cheaper to out source, let alone off shore. That job typically requires little to no skill. Lastly, as the baby boomers start to retire jobs will open like there is no tomorrow. In CA i know of 5k jobs opening between now and june (should be interesting).
I hope you are right Sam.
When President Obama says that the rich don't pay their share of taxes, he is lying, distorting, and demagoging.
Here are the facts according to the IRS:
• Those making more than $1 million pay 24% of income in taxes
• Those making $200,000 to $300,000 pay 17.5%
• Those making $100,000 to $125,000 pay 9.9%
• Those making $50,000 to $60,000 pay 6.3%
• Those making $20,000 to $30,000 pay 2.5%
And what of millionaires who pay no taxes?
There are 1,470 of them. They represent six-tenths of one percent of all those with million dollar incomes in the U.S. If we assume that they make an average income of $2 million a year each, taxing them at the same rate as other millionaires (24.4%) would yield $367 million, which would increase Treasury income tax revenues by 30 one-hundredths of one percent or one-third of one-tenth of one percent!
Overall, the IRS reports that the revenues from the income tax are sharply skewed toward taxes on the rich:
• The top 1% pays 39%
• The top 5% pays 60%
• The top 10% pays 72%
• The bottom half pays 3%
So who does Obama think he is kidding? Answer: only a few libbies at First Read!
Ha are you kidding there has not been a poll taken in the last year that has not indicated that a majority of Americans feel that taxes should be raised on the wealthy as a part of the solution to our problems. Some show as high as 80% to 20%.
smoke and mirrors, rhetoric and sound bites.... that's what's become of the administration and the Democratic Party.... fortunately wiser minds understand what's going on, unfortunately where were they 3.5 years ago?
All of those are 'averages', Mark. And your 'percentage of total' is a red herring when they make more than that percentage of the income. Try coming up with something new.
Any comment on the fact that the the income level of the lower 95% of income earners has been dropping for the last 10 years? Or that more people are living in poverty? Or that more people have no health insurance? Or that the top one percent of income earners have gotten over 80% of any income gains while the rest of the top 5% received all of the rest of the income gains?
Mark on behalf of the few Libbies at First Read I would like to ask you to please not put up stuff without attribution. Until then it looks like you've just repeated the latest chain e-mail in the campaign to disemenate false and misleading information. If you put it up and it turns out to have any basis in reality( which I doubt having looked at and debunked a bloody blue million of the damn things) then you will have my apologies. But until then why don't you take that mess somewhere where somebody is going to belive it.
Dear Independent, Mark did attribute the information. He attributed it to the IRS. There was recently a report that published this information. To verify it, you can go to irs.gov.
There are at least 11 bills passed by bipartisan vote in the house that would help to create jobs. The Democrats, namely Harry Reid, will not even let these bills come to the floor of the senate for discussion and a vote. Won't even consider them. Instead Democrats want to find more ways to spend money. They have spent us into a serious debt and that limits our economic choices. Cut the spending. Then increase taxes, if needed, TO PAY DOWN THE DEBT. Democrats want to raise taxes just to waste more money like they have these last 3 years. Have you seen this Wasserman speak? She is like Anthony Weiner with rabies, foaming and yowling and hysterical rants. That is the voice of the Democrat party.
Sorry Candice. Bull Puckey. Show me a report from the IRS that details this report and that states the facts and just the facts as Mark has put them up and then I can discuss them. IRS puts out a bunch of reports every year. If you want to have credibility then you are going to have to do better than this. I'll say again until you put up something creditable take that mess where somebody is going to believe you. I can now say that with conviction because unlike you I have checked and there is no report that says what Mark has put up.
Mark and Candice- facts that don't fit their narrative are rendered "not facts", the source notwithstanding.
And, DWS talking about Obama and the economy? Really?
Cause, there is so much for him to be proud of, right?
Well, hey, his donors got tenfold returns on their "investments". We, the taxpayers, are good for it, right?
I think Obama should run on his record. Inept and corrupt have been such a success story for this country.
Brought to us by the people who could not support Hillary because she did not divorce her husband.
Way to go, Democrats! Not only are you the last bastion of sexism, you have single handedly revived the republican party!
Your own will probably never get off its knees.
There is something very wrong with your post. Back your ass up with some proof!
So says the Queen of Bull Puckey herself. One of these days NoJo your going to put something up here that isn't so full of sh!t that your eyes are brown and my Old Heart just won't be able to stand it and I'll just keel over and pass from this world a totally shocked man.
BTW I see where June below has debunked you'lls little myth. Thank you June. Now Candice you and Mark want to try again. I've got a long evening and not a whole lot to do with it
Independent.
It really isn't very hard. There are hundreds of articles and tables out there that illustrate the effective tax rates that certain sets of income earners pay. Truly. If you have a bunch of time, you can research it. You could even put together a spreadsheet of your own based on the tables you find. Many show rates slightly different. But the gist of it is is that President Obama is full of Bull Puckey when he talks about the rich not paying more taxes.
For example:
$1,000,000 and up pay 23.3%
$500,000 - 1,000,000 pay 24.1%
$200,000 - 500,000 pay 19.6%
$100,000 - 200,000 pay 12.7%
$50,000 - 100,000 pay 8.9%
$30,000 - 50,000 pay 7.2%
This table is available on WSJ online in the article titled "The Buffett Alternative Tax."
You can also research numerous articles that report half the country pay no taxes at all.
Or, are you simply focusing on sources and missing the point?
Mark from LT ..... I don't see your sources.
But anyway, standard rates don't take into account the $millions/billions of dollars of finaigling now under scrutiny in the national debate about taxes.
To quote yourself, the folks you are listening are the ones " lying, distorting, and demagoging" not the President. The facts are common knowledge:
The super-rich have loopholes, capital gains and get-arounds so that some super-rich companies with good lawyers don't pay any taxes at all. The corporate share of the nations's tax receipts dropped down from 30% of all federal revenue in the mid-1950's to 6.6% in 2009.
As things currently stand, there are Hedge Fund Managers and CEOs earning $50 million who pay lower effective taxes than their Secretary or child's Teacher.
Public Policy Poll shows that 73% of Americans agree with the Warren Buffet Rule.
The poll also shows that 66% of Republicans agree with the Warren Buffet Rule.
Corporations use shelters, tax credits and subsidies to pay less taxes, find ways to accumulate American profits while offshoring and receive Billions in tax benefits from the IRS at the same time. Burman, scholar at the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center said, "...in our system, there are corporations that view their tax departments as a profit center".
88% of income gains in 2009 went to corporate profits, while only 1% went to wages. That same year, U.S. GDP went down to minus 8.9% and we lost almost 8 million jobs by the time President Obama was sworn in. We can no longer pretend that our Big Corporations are creating jobs.
Corporations are not creating jobs. They have been letting people go.
GOP congressionals like to tell us these big corporations are 'job creators'. We've been trusting them to create jobs for us. But they haven't. For example, in 2007 Koch Oil made $34Billion in profits. In 2011 the Koch Oil made $50Billion in profits. You'd think their employment figures would rise along with the profits. But they did not.
During that same period the number of employees working for Koch Brothers fell by 13,000. From 80K all the way down to 67K.
Koch let thousands of workers go as their profts have soared ~ by 40% this year.

Why Candice darlin' I'm just a dumb old Redneck. Why would you trust me to come up with all those tables and such like? And then you're going to take my word on it. Yeh Right. So I asked you'll to attribute and guess what turns out you couldn't. But I'll do you one better. All the tax tables in the world can't argue with the fact that on average the richest pay an effective tax of 17-18% and hedge fund managers pay( by Law) a top rate of 15%. So if you believe that things are equitable right now then I've got a bunch of land down in the Soggy Bottom that you'll might be interested in. I'll give you credit though at least you tried looks like all your compatriots have given up in sheer embarrassment.
Well, Redneck, I would trust that you would do your own research and come up with your own conclusions. I've read your posts before and you seem to give the issues some individual thought.
President Obama is running around the country talking up raising taxes on folks earning in excess of $250,000 a year - which he considers millionaires and billionaires - and of course, he would know because he can do math. He's also using Mr. Buffett as back up. Unfortunately, what Mr. Buffett proposes is entirely different than what the President is touting.
09-30-11 Warren Buffett said he isn't talking about raising taxes on people who make $250,000 a year. He suggested raising taxes a limited number of Americans who make the majority of their income from capital gains. “What I’m talking about would not apply to someone that made $5 million a year as a baseball player or $10 million a year on media. It would apply only to probably 50,000 people out of 309 million who have huge incomes, pay very low taxes. There should be a policy that applies to people with money who earn lots of money and pay very low rates. If they earn it by normal jobs what I say would not hit them at all."
You see, Redneck, Mr. Buffett thinks baseball players making $5 million a year is okay and they shouldn't be subject to higher tax rates. He doesn't think raising taxes on working people is a good idea. President Obama's plan hopes to tax the daylights out of your favorite sports stars and regular people. So, President Obama is using misrepresentations, distortions and demagoguery when he talks about taxes.
Do I think things are equitable? Do I think a CEO should get paid $25 million a year? Or a baseball player $10 million? No, probably not. But who am I to judge? It's the American way.
Candice Darlin' again I'll have to ask for attribution. Because what your putting up just don't square with the facts of the matter. Nothing personal but again you're putting your interpretation up and nothing has been written into law. Until then it's all just opinion and you'll know what they say about opinions. I say things are not equable and there's many ways to recify that situation. Some are going to make the President look bad some aren't. Instead of focusing on what makes one man look bad why don't we focus on what's going to do Us the most good and let the President take care of himself.
Mr. Buffett spoke on CNBC and Bloomberg about this. There's an article on The Hill by Alicia Cohn, entitled "Warren Buffett Sparks Storm over millionaires' tax rate hike."
What facts, exactly, aren't squaring up?
President Obama wants to raise taxes on what he considers rich. $250,000 incomes.
Warren Buffett advocates taxing the ultra rich who make money on money rather than "working" people.
Baseball players make millions of dollars.
Our tax system has progressive tax rates, marginal rates and when all washes out - effective rates.
These are not opinions. These are facts.
Why are you confused?
I'm confused at the point where the President said that this was the only way it could be done. To the best of my knowledge all he has definitively said that any Debt Reduction plan that came to his desk with out a portion of it being raising revenue he's going to veto it. Now that would seem to me to leave a lot of options open. Once again you are like so many of my Republican/T.P. acquaintances ( and I have many) focusing on what's going to make or break the President all the while letting the truth of the matter that the situation is inequitable and cannot continue to escape you. Specifics rest with the Congress on how to achieve that not the President yet the Congress will not act in any fashion to address it. And that is once again a fact.
I've read enough of this $h!t.... Redneck from VA, doesn't make since considerings one of the wealthiest states in America. Since i'm already assuming that you'll say "attribute," which is a poor use of the word btw, here is a list of the states with the most millionaires (Va is #5). Are you one of those Va. 150,000 millionaires?
Anyways, hedge fund managers pay 15% taxes b/c that is the capital gains tax, same % that everyone pays on capital gains. Same reason Warren Buffet only payed 15% taxes b/c he doesn't have a "taxable" income. The rate has been set for over 2 decades. http://www.taxfoundation.org/taxdata/show/2088.html

DARN---- I HATE WHEN IRS NUMBERS ARE SOOOOOOO EASY TO FIND!! Do us all a favor and stop spreading your nonsense around on the internet.
Coming from Va. whats your official post in DC? Democratic pollster? lol.
The standard rates don't take into account the $millions/billions of dollars of finaigling now under scrutiny in the national debate about taxes.
The super-rich have loopholes, capital gains and get-arounds so that some super-rich companies with good lawyers don't pay any taxes at all. The corporate share of the nations's tax receipts dropped down from 30% of all federal revenue in the mid-1950's to 6.6% in 2009.

That is what we aim to fix.
Public Policy Poll shows that 73% of Americans agree with the Warren Buffet Rule.
The poll also shows that 66% of Republicans agree with the Warren Buffet Rule.
1) EVERYONE pays an effective 15% of capital gains; rich or poor.
2) Corporations employee about 66% of americans, government employee 8% and small business employs 26% of employed workers. It doesn't take much logic to realize that corporations are a very integral portion of our economy, and the over-all tax revenue stemmed from them is nearly irreplaceable.
The 1% have had a good innings. Ordinary American people put them where they are on the-wealthiest -ever-in-the-history-of-the-world category.
Now it is time for corporations to pay an equal effective rate as everyone else, or aren't they 'people' after all? (@@)
With capital gains at the standard low of 15%, it must be an exhilerating game for those fancy lawyers to see if they can whittle that figure down to zero via loophoes and cop-outs ~ or as near as damnit.
Griping about the Deficit and then refusing to put your hand in your pocket to pay your effective share of revenues......has been exposed for what it is, is passed, done, finished, toast, on the way out the door.
Public Policy Poll shows that 73% of Americans agree with the Warren Buffet Rule.
The poll also shows that 66% of Republicans agree with the Warren Buffet Rule.
Navy - what are you on the night shift!!! Get a life. The lawyers you make fun of are one of the giggest Obama supporters. Oh and BTW even Buffet doesn't support the Buffet rule.
Navy?
I mean Backhouse - interchangeable.
REB,
That is not factual. Here is part of the transcript:
BUFFETT: Some guy make a 50 million here playing
baseball, his taxes won't change. Make $50 million a year appearing on
television, his income won't change. But if they make a lot of money and they
pay a very low tax rate, like me, it would be changed by a minimum tax that
would only bring them up to what the other people pay.
ANDREW: OK. So, but that means you disagree with the president on the 250,000.
BUFFETT: No. No, no, no. You may disagree with him, I don't know.
ANDREW: No. I don't know, but I'm asking, so you agree $250,000 is the right number?
BUFFETT: I will look at the overall plan that gets submitted to Congress and which they are voting on and decide, net, do I like it, or do I not like it. I— there's no question there will be parts I'll disagree with, just like any plan.

Dennis
Read what you wrote. Buffet is against people like himself that pay on capital gains rate and not W2 rates. If you have a job no matter what it is baseball player, engineer, teacher you pay taxes on the W2 rate. Buffet doesn't want that to change which is against what Obama wants.
Also now that you mention it why is Obama against a husband and wife each making the same amount of money without having to pay the added tax he wants? If they are both dentists, have student loans to pay, studied for 6 years to attain their position and now want to practice, they are penalized because BOTH individually make $200,000. He wants one to make $200,000 and the other to make $49,000. How stupid is that and how unjust!!
I thought you people were for equal pay for equal work??
Even Schumer is against the Obama plan - “$250,000 makes you really rich in Mississippi but it doesn’t make you rich at all in New York and there ought to be some kind of scale based on the cost of living on how much you pay,” Schumer said. Nothing like that included in the Obama plan either.
REB,
ANDREW: OK. So, but that means you disagree with the president on the 250,000.
BUFFETT: No. No, no, no.
Like I wrote, what you stated is not factual. You and I may interrupt what was said differently but he said he does not disagree with the President’s plan. He just said he will most likely disagree with parts of it just like any plan presented by anyone. I don’t agree with plans in their entirety either by the government leaders or the CEO and senior VP’s of my company.
The single v joint income was not put in place by this administration. He did say that the tax code should be rewritten. His plan is wrapped around the current tax code.
Schumer, like Buffett is against parts of it – not all of it.
Dennis
The single v joint income tax raising proposal IS WHAT THIS ADMINISTRATION (READ OBAMA) WANTS!!!!!
So if you don't agree with the financing parts of it how do you pay for it???
Think about it please.
Using caps is the same as yelling … you are out of line.
Dennis
I am sorry if you felt I was out of line and I hurt you feelings. That was not my intent. I will rephrase
The single v joint income tax raising proposal is what this administration (read Obama) wants!
So if you don't agree with the financing parts of it how do you pay for it???
Think about it please.
Will you answer now?
REB,
Thank you. You didn’t hurt my feeling, yelling isn’t necessary or productive.
I agree that this administration has based the expected income off of these current levels of the tax tables. I can see where it appears to be unfair but many think the progressive tax system is unfair also.
Personally I believe the most fair tax system is a National sales tax. Based on spending and encourages savings. All that is needed is to find a good way to deter the inevitable Black Market.
Dennis - not a bad idea.
I just don't see why myself and my wife (both of us are now working and each of us makes 150k plus and we also live in New York City) who are now empty nesters and want to save more for our future retirement can't do so without having to pay more tax to support Obama's plan. We are already hit with the AMT and now he wants more. New York also hit us with the millionaires tax even though it is really for people/couples making more than 200k plus we pay NYC tax. After all is said and done we owe more than 50% of our income to the various tax people.
I'm not looking for snarky comments back from other FR readers such as at least you have a job, move out of New York etc., I'm just telling you the facts.
As Chuck Schumer says - “$250,000 makes you really rich in Mississippi but it doesn’t make you rich at all in New York and there ought to be some kind of scale based on the cost of living on how much you pay,”
Forrest, you must be blogging with millionaires today... I swear, the tparty patriots will shoot themselves in the foot to get 'that guy' out of the WH...
And, for the record? Last year, my combo of income from SS & IRA was $18,500 and I paid $1,000 in federal taxes... I have no idea where your numbers come from, Mark...
came from the tea pottiers , and the koch bros. that are funding them and most of the crazy bloggers !!!
They worry me Lynn, we can make things better but you have to be at least willing to try.
Lyn - did you get a tax refund check last year??
Lyn maybe you can get Soros, or Buffet or Immelt, or Kerry, or Gore to spare a few bucks for you. Must be tough living on less than 20k a year. Bet you got all that $1000 back, if not you need to do your taxes better. There should be churches in your town that would offer help. They do in all the towns I've lived in. We also have a group called the Common Good that supplies food, shelter, and clothing for the needy. However these are all pretty much conservative groups and mostly supporters of the tea party.
She was not asking for a damn thing Uncle Spam, can you read, all she said is that she pay taxes on her modest income. She is retired and it is tough to live on that income, about as tough as the 23,000 a year median income in Rick Perry's great state of Texas where people who are working still need charity to survive.
You're right, Forrest... I'm not asking for a damn thing... I'm just saying my taxes are higher than the 3%, or the 0% some say we pay, when our income is below poverty level.
I own my home, fixed it up with all new major appliances, and weatherproofed everything before I retired. I'm sitting pretty, thank you world...
Uncle Sam2242573? You cashed my check and didn't sent it back! But, I like my roads, fire dept, police dept, schools for my grandbabies...
Good for you Lyn, I hope you enjoy your retirement and your grandkids, make sure you have fun with the whole family voting in 2012, do whats best for you, and your Uncle Sam, vote straight democratic.
No Lyn, don't waste your vote in 2012. Help us to take out the Democratic trash. Dump Obama in 2012.
TEA
Mark
"If we assume that they make an average of $2million each...." That's what makes you a GREAT Republiclown, most of those 1470 are making hundreds of millions and even multi-billions a year. Assume that Mark! I'd bet that you're posting from the top floor of Harrahs. Your assumption would be laughable if it weren't so damned stupid.
I understand you rich people are very very greedy. But you didn't get rich all on your own. If you are a movie star, millions bought tickets to the movies to support you. If you are a hedge manager driving up the cost of gas, million and million of Americans buying gas are making you rich. If you are on wall street and got bailed out by the people and then got large bonuses. Those were paid for by the people.
Now the people need the rich to pretend like they are still Americans and help out when they are needed instead of whining like a bunch of 4 year olds with mine, mine, mine. Sacrifice means everyone not just the poor. Sacrifice for the rich means he won't be able to buy the 10th car. Sacrifice for the poor means he won't be able to buy dinner that night.
Take the Koch brothers they have more money than they could spend in many lifetimes and it would not hurt them to give back to the people who made them rich.
Americans First..... I'm sure the rich would gladly give back some of their money if they could be assured it wouldn't go to those who are addicted to government handouts and have no interest in finding jobs! This administration is creating a country of sheep, what a shame!
Jim, you are a total a$$. People are not 'addicted to government handouts', they don't have jobs because there are no jobs to be had. You ever been unemployed? I doubt it, either that or you're just a troll spreading the propaganda of the Republican/TP Inc. party. Talk about sheep, people like you come on here every day and repeat the same garbage. Hope you're getting paid well, how much does it cost to give up your integrity, these days?
American consumers, our parents and grandparents made these companies rich. There was a time when American made goods were mostly sold here in America. Obama is the only president in my lifetime who has went up against these greedy bastards. The democrats let him down in the mid terms, but will come back in the general election. If he wins and we can get more democrats in the house and senate, then what will the right do? Your breitbart threats are not going to get it done.
Matthew, Jim's use of addicted is not necessarily correct.... he should have used 'dependent' on government handouts'. The You Tube is littered with videos of unemployed workers just giddy about the different programs allowing them to not work, yet provide them with food stamps, cash, utility 'credits', etc. so they don't have to work. Jim was suggesting that the 'rich' as you call them.. are concerned that increasing taxes does not create jobs, but funds programs to keep people 'dependent' on such government handouts. Where is the incentive for these people to earn their own way Matthew?
You make it sound like the unemployed are rolling in riches. Let see if you made $8 an hour working, on unemployment you get $4 so you get $640 every four weeks. If you had made $10 and hour you now get $800 every four weeks. Up that with food stamps and boy that is sure some living on the high hog. With those kind of riches why would you ever need to work again when you can lay at home and rake in the wealth.
I don't know about you, but I can't live on half my old salary. I just applied for a job, I don't know how many applied but they were interviewing 30 people for a part time job. Heck, I should have known it, we all can't find jobs because we are lazy. Here I thought it was because at least 30 people were applying for each job.
Americans First -
I'm sorry to hear that you are out of work. Living on unemployment is living in or near poverty. While better than nothing, you can't survive on the benefits. At least you're looking for work.
I wish you much success in your search. I hope you win that job you've applied for.
Typical liberal Democrat thinking...in order to create jobs it is necessary to spend more tax payer money on wasted pork projects, "shovel ready jobs" lol, making 535 million dollar loans to green companies that are on the verge of bankruptcy, and other pie in the sky socialist projects. How about more cash for clunkers or a trillion for another failed stimulus, or let's just give GM more money to build the horrible Volt and then give a subsidy to any idiot that will buy the electric lemon. Cut the waste, close the tax loop holes, cut spending in all departments, close down the unnecessary agencies, stop most all the subsidies, cut foreign aide especially to our enemies, make appropriate tariffs on unfair trade with China. Then raise taxes if necessary.
You obviously don't have a clue about economics. Failed stimulus? Why don't you ask Bruce Bartlett or Mark Zandi . . . oh wait, you just repeated all the right wing lies that you guys repeat on here day, after day, after day, after day . . .
As I asked Mr. Silver, above, how much does it cost to buy your integrity?
What does a liberal know about integrity? For that matter liberals have what would be called "flexible" ideas about morals and ethics. Our dear leader Obama has one job in his life. That job was teaching the radical union socialist Alinsky's Rules for Radicals to ACORN activists. Read it and you will see exactly the strategy being used by the Democrat party. Read it and you will see how socialist scorn the normal use of ethics, morals, and integrity. The Democrat party is using the basic dogma from Marx, that is class warfare against the rich and against religion. Matthew, you don't have enough to buy my integrity but it is obvious that you don't have any to even sell.
Why don't republicans close those loopholes, and oil subsidies, and place tariffs on foreign goods then, why because that would be taxation and regulation, you got the tea party thing going but your talking out of both sides of your mouth uncle, yes sir both sides of your mouth.
QUESTION:
ANSWER:
Republican GREED!!!!!
just a fact.
Nice try at deflection, Uncle Sam. Now try answering the question instead of repeating the same, tired, old BS you learned from the manual you use to write the crap you spew. Once again, how much are you being paid to compromise your integrity?
Wrong.
ANSWER: Democrat GREED and politics! (too)
09-30-11 Dick Durbin explained in an interview with WLS Radio why it's not just Republicans opposed to the president's plan.
"The oil-producing state senators don't like eliminating or reducing the subsidy for oil companies," he said. "There are some senators who are up for election who say I'm never gonna vote for a tax increase while I'm up for election, even on the wealthiest people. So, we're not gonna have 100 percent Democratic senators."
He was answering a question about whether the Democrats support the President's plan.
What he answered was that there are greedy democrats more worried about their donor base than the people just like the republicans.
So are you saying because there are a few greedy democrats, we should not do anything for the people? Most of bush's tax cuts were aimed at the very wealthy and it is time for them to pay a fair share. America made them rich and now they need to give back.
No, I'm saying if you're going to be mad at politicians - be mad at both parties because both are at fault.
Unfortunately the person who posted the Tax information was not honest about the real source of the information nor did they provide you with the Owners, Directors, and Contributors of this establishment. The information he provided was distributed by The Tax Foundation not the IRS and was dissiminated in October 1997.
The most interesting observation about this organization is who's the owners and who's on the Board of Directors interesting;
The Chariman works for a top Pharma Company, Eily Lilly
Directors Include
A Former Bush-Cheney Economic Advisor
An Advisor to Presidental Candidate John McCain's campaign
A Former Texas Congressman
Former Director is someone from KOCH Industries
Former from EXXON MOBILE
Mobile Tax VP
One from President Bush's Prior Economic Advisory
Will those who are standing tall for the Rich ever be honest with the American Public?
Just Google "The Tax Foundation" It's Not The IRS that distributed this information
Unless and until those contributing to the Issues are willing to Be "Truthful" our Country will continue to Slide Downhill and our Young People will be the reciepients for generations to come.
This person completely disregarded those rates paid during the Clinton Years that are higher than current rates for the top Earners and produced 25 Million Jobs the best Economy this country had in our history.
You are entitled to your "Own Opinion but you are not entitled to your Own Facts"
June you don't like the source but the facts are correct. Statistics can be misused and trying to compare today's taxes, which are the issue, with the Clinton years taxes is just apples and oranges. Why not compare with Lincoln's taxes, or Jefferson's taxes or whoever. What would be the point? Clinton had a good economy forced upon him by a Republican majority in Congress. Kinda like the disaster that occurred when the Democrats obtained a majority in the last 2 years of President Bush's presidency and the first two years of Obama's presidency. Obama even had a super majority and did not need a single vote from Republicans to pass legislation. Let's see what statistics Moveon, DailyKos, or MSNBC gives. Show them if you are going to claim another is wrong. Clinton Years, what a maroon.
No Uncle it's not that June don't like the source. It's not the source that Mark tried to attribute it to and the facts are not correct. Just like most of the mess you've put up there is not correct. But why let a few facts get in the way of telling a good story. Right Uncle Whiskers.
Uncle, Mark and company:
I suppose you want us to believe that Saddam had WMD's pointed at us and we HAD to go "get him" too...
The things you guys try to get American citizens to believe is - well, UNBELIEVEABLE!!!
Not as stupid,
Umm, Hillary and Bill believed it...even gave speeches urging we get him. So did many other dem leaders.
Joebuck,
Yes, now I remember all those dingbat libbies voting to go to war.
Wow go get a fire extinguisher Mark and Uncle, put your pants out, you guys were just blowtorched by June,FL.
You missed the point Joe...
Okay - some Democrats approved going after Saddam...AFTER THE PRESIDENT LIED TO THEM, distorted the facts, misled with spin and fear tactic - JUST LIKE THEY CONTINUE TO DO NOW on other issues!
And you want us to just forget about all that and give Republicans another chance in the White House?
NOT ON YOUR LIFE!!!
Oh, we know... you will be REAL good to us from now on - all we have to do is vote for you.
STICK IT! We will stay with Obama! No matter how ineffective you try to make him appear, he is STILL MUCH better than what we had 2001-2009. You think he doesn't tell the truth? Compare him with the WMD story e.g. or the "cut taxes for the wealthy & corporations and it will create jobs" b.s. Obama is much more truthful, AND honest.
The fact is, Obama and company are killing jobs by the thousands and until he is removed from office it will continue.
Over 4,000 new federal regulations implemented since he took office.
Solyndra received more taxpayer money than 35 states did for infastructure work from the stimulous.
Dang, that could have fixed a lot of those bridges. Must be nice to be a camapaign bundler.
That must be why they are eager to pass the President's Job Bill in the Senate.
Oh, wait. Senator Reid won't even bring it up for discussion let alone a vote.
Because he knows the Democrats in the Senate won't touch it.
What you say????
Democrats revolting against Obama the King?? That's treason. How dare they?? What do they want?? To get re-elected??
Too late for the Democratic socialist lemmings in congress to get religion now. Judgement day is at hand.
Anyone with the dreaded "D" after their name is fair game. The "D" word will become as insulting as the "N" word.
Wasserman-Schultz has the right of it. If the GOP did not care about only about ruining President Obama's job they would have cooperated and been helpful to the country. Instead they have been against the middle class. They have only been for protecting the wealthy and that means the super wealthy millionaires and billionaires. How in the world can people think these republicans have cared about helping solve the mess of Wall Street, the housing and foreclosure mess, the health care expensive mess, the mess of the war spending with no accountability and the greed of Wall Street and so many lobbyists that all want republicans to do their bidding. Democrats are all there is to protect Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid because the GOP doesn't care about these programs that help the neediest people in our country. They are bigots who care about themselves and not about the rest of Americans. The republicans in Congress have done nothing at all to help the country with jobs. They have come in with one agenda to cut away at programs that are important. They use the spending as an excuse without revealing that they themselves spent trillions and never cared to pay for what they were spending.
Wow, you really must only listen to the liberal media and not do and research yourself. If you did then you would know that Harry Reid is holding up this so called jobs bill. This "jobs bill" would be a failure just like the stimulus bill. It creates mostly temporary jobs. Once these construction jobs are done, then what. Another stimulus or jobs bill?
Wow you must not have read her post she did not mention the jobs bill, but she was entirely correct about everything she did talk about. Top republicans announced to the world that their top priority, the most important thing they wished to accomplish was to see the president fail, the POTUS elected in a landslide by the American people. I will never forgive them. They haughtily and proudly proclaimed their mission and in doing so broke their oath to this nation. We will see who's Waterloo it turns out to be, because right now it appears they will likely fail at their top priority, and Obama will be re-elected. Boehner, McConnel, and De-Mint should be run out of office for dereliction of duty, when you scheme to screw the President, you are scheming to screw America. That is why I will vote straight democratic in 2012, and for the rest of my life.
It is obvious to any thinking American that Obama is gone. He knows it, His wife knows it, and his party knows it too.
Watch as the Democratic Senators coming up for re-election and all those Democratic Represenatives try to distance themselves from the loser in our White House.
It will become comical. These people want to be re-elected too, and Obama just became the albatross around their necks. (No Barrack, I really don't want your endorsement. Thanks anyway Barrack.)
I tell you what Edward I think a lot of incumbents on both sides in both houses of Congress could be surprised, but if that does happen then Obama will likely be the last man standing. Perry is done, Cain is done, Bachmann can't beat him, you think Romney can't beat him, you think republicans want to beat him bad enough try Ron Paul as their nominee.
Rush laid out the Republican marching orders in early 2009 --- "we want Obama to fail". That's been the Republican objective ever since --- to hell with the nation, let's get Obama. There's a difference between being in the opposition and being an enemy. Republicans have always viewed President Obama as their enemy and in their fanatical desire to destroy President Obama at any cost, they have lost all focus on what’s best for America. The 21st century Republican Party doesn't care if the US crashes and burns as long as they can destroy the President. The way I see it, you cannot be a 21st century Republican and be a good American at the same time. The two positions are polar opposite.
It is kind of ironic that Wasserman Schulz would rail about getting the the president's jobs plan passed, but she has not stood up and co-sponsored the bill.
So far only one member of the House from CT has put his name on the bill
Leader Reid and Sen Schumer admit they are not close to having enough voted to pass the bill n the Senate and the opposition includes a number of Democrats.
The bill, as presented is not going to pass. Perhaps if it is broken into pieces e pars of it will pass.
Temporary tax cuts and temporary money to maintain public sector union positions that states and localities cannot afford in their own budget are not solutions they are pushing the problem out of the way of the election and pushing the problem into years when other presidents an administrations (not Obama) will have to worry about paying the bills.
The infrastructure portion of the president's plan is an idea that with some modifications could likely pass in the chambers and it should be stripped out and worked on separately
It seems to me that the president cares little if the plan is passed or even voted on, he simply wants it as a campaign talking point.
He needs them because if the unemployment numbers, the housing crisis, the weakness of the dollar and the approaching inflation and even a double dip recession continue as they are today he will be defeated in 2012 based on his performance as leader of our country.
Yes we can Obama 2012!!!
I wish the people could understand, it is not taxing the rich more that will help an out of control Government. For twenty years the Government has been spending this country down the tube. If the Government took every dime millionairs made for one year, it would only fund the Government for 28 days. FOLKS, SPENDING IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR COUNTRY. BRING OUR TROOPS HOME FROM EVERY COUNTRY! If they want us, let them pay the bill, not US taxpayers.
Everybody, stop the madness! Yes, the problem is overspending. But it is not overspending in the U.S.. It is overspending on foreign soils, giving billions to corrupt governments, supporting our enemies, and trying to police the world. Monies spent to improve OUR country is an investment in OUR future. That is why improving the infrastructure of the U.S. (using American labor and American products) is a viable idea for improving OUR economy. It puts OUR unemployed back to work and brings tax dollars into OUR economy, which in turn lowers the deficit. For every job created improving the U.S. infrastructure, we create 5 or 6 jobs in the private sector which lowers the unemployment rate and increases the tax base. If we do nothing, nothing is gained. In fact, ALL is lost.
Business leaders are all saying that Congress needs to get off their duffs and DO SOMETHING so they have an idea where the nation is going and can invest confidently in the economy of the U.S.. But most agree that nothing will be done before the elections, becausae the Congress (both Republican and Democrats and Tea Party Republicans) cares about nothing but politics. And no mater which party wins, the American people will be the losers as long as Congress is not willing to work together to solve the problems and create jobs, bring about a better business atmosphere, and invest in OUR (the American people) future prosperity.
Beat Obama at the expense of WHAT ECONOMY? Obama and the Dems health care shot the economy right in the head. If that piece of job killing carp can't be over turned, America is in it's death thros just like Greece and every other socialist country. Oh I almost forgot, every BIG Democrat contributor got a waver leaving the rest of America to pick up the bill, WHICH IT CAN'T!
Of course the Repub. want to beat Obama. They want to fix the economy and if he couldn't do it in three years, he's not going to do it in four. Obama and Michelle had their fun traveling the world, playing golf, his multi-million dollar birthday. Now it's time for them to be unemployed like the rest of us.
The Obamas act like lower middle class people who just hit powerball lottery. The "new rich" are easy to spot. They spend way more than they should for everything. They get taken for a ride, and they don't care. They are very conspicuous. Very plastic.
Moochelle knows that the gravy train is coming to the end of the line and she, and the empty suit she married, will have to get off and walk.
HEY EVERYONE, The point is no one is working together, right now this country is disfunctional. We can keep blaming each other and nothing gets done. What's more important getting our country back on track, or this crap thats being spewed by both parties. Remember we are all Americans. WE need to work together. I'm just as bad as the rest of you at bashing, but after reading some posts we all need to take a look at our-selfs and we all need to get a life. Nuff said.
Republicans: polarized to the point of stupid and they make it as clear as rocky mtn water. Shame of their corporate sponsored deeds since reagan is what drives them. We have the best man to hit the whitehouse in decades now and a congress that is the worst since the koch bros t-stains entered the house. Republicans have become a desease that we need to cure ... politically. Obama 2012!
It is amazing to me how divided things have become. Our system was created to allow both sides to bang heads in order to come up with something in the middle i.e. moderate policy. This president says "just do it for the country", like all his liberal policies are correct? Both liberals and conservatives are soooooo sure their policies are the answer when in fact the answer is something in the middle. It is amazing how easily people are manipulated in the process to chant for this or that. This woman puts out this statement and all liberals jump on board.
Right Dave,
Obama's idea of compromise is just do whatever he wants. I attended a Tea Party rally here in Vegas. I saw no radicals, no racism. Just ordinary people voicing their concerns. The main theme was overwhelmingly...stop the crazy spending. Not jobs, not immigration, not gay rights, not the wars. Just stop the crazy spending. This is what propelled the new Tea party backed freshmen congressmen and women into office. this is what their mandate was, and still is.
If they shook up some of the old guard Republicans with their resolve, then more power to them. Nothing will change unless it starts at the grass roots. Like this did. Let's see if it grows into a dynamic power base, and real fiscal responsibility is forced into the political scene.
AMEN. Stop this crazy spending. Republican or Democrat, we cannot keep this pace of spending period. I get it, wars, social programs, green programs etc. etc. etc. they all want their idea pushed when in the end we the people pay for all these half baked ideas. I know one thing for sure....this level of spending cannot continue without dire consequences.
The answer, of course, NEVER lies in extremes...it is ALWAYS somewhere in the middle.
I wouldn't worry too much about the election. Judging by the republican hopefulls, Obama will be elected to a second term. I am not sure if this is the BEST thing, but it seems to be the way it is.
The republicans are hoping that Chris Christie will change his mind and run. That is the only hope I can see of the republicans getting the white house in 2012.
