Gingrich says he's smarter than GOP rivals

DODGE, Iowa -- Newt Gingrich now says the reason to vote for him over his rivals -- he smarter.

“I’m not running against any of my friends, they’re all good people," Gingrich said at a breakfast at the Best Western here. "But if you watch them and watch me, the difference in the depth of knowledge and the difference in the ability to debate Obama, the difference in actually having done it at the national level, I can’t only think if you’re worried about the future of the country and you’re worried about how we get the country fixed, I’m a pretty good mechanic who knows how to fix the car and the other folks are good at selling it.

"They’re nice people, but they don’t have the knowledge to do something like this on this scale. This is enormously complicated.”

A day after Gingrich unveiled his 10-point new “Contract with America,” he again went point-by-point on his plan -- and again apologized for taking so long to describe it, but “it took so long to put together,” he said.

Gingrich also claimed that he has been studying how to make the U.S. better since he was a freshman or sophomore in high school.

Speaking about Social Security, Gingrich said he wants Americans to have the option of choosing their own, private Social Security account.

“Grandchildren should have right to choose Social Security account they control, it has to be there, we’re going to do a commercial showing President Obama in July saying twice you’re not going to get your social security check," Gingrich said. "Send it to college campuses and say do you want to spend the next 50 years of your life working and paying taxes supposedly building up for retirement when any politician can be this irresponsible? Or would you rather have an account you control so a politician can’t do that do your money.  … I’m not going to force them into this system, they have the option, very few people will stay in it if they’re 25 or 30, and think it won’t be there. … If you have this account we don’t have a set date when you have to retire. Fact is, if you have this account and you control it and want to work until you are 85, fine. If you want to retire at 50, fine. What do we care? It’s your life, it’s your money.

Gingrich also pointed to the black community as being most disadvantaged with the current Social Security system. “Sadly most African Americans are the most disadvantaged because they die the youngest so they pay their whole lifetime and it transfers to somebody else because it’s not an estate.”

Speaking about fraud in the federal government, Gingrich said Visa, MasterCard and American Express do a better job preventing fraud than the U.S. government. And claimed as President, he would have the borders controlled by January 1, 2014.

In my humble opinion, Newt Gingrich is not only smarter than the others in the GOP race, he's smarter than all Democrats. Smarter than all Americans in fact. Gingrich is indeed the smartest man in the world and the smartest human being who has ever lived, bar none.

Sincerely yours,

- Newt Gingrich

I've gotta admit that old Newt is smarter than the people who will vote for him. What a job, what an ego. Does anybody remember what old Newt did? Oh wait...what he got caught for?

Thinking he was smarter than everyone else is what got him into trouble in Congress in the 90's! And with his first 2 wives! NO, Newt you can't get away with adultery and ethic violations or with trying hood wink the American people AGAIN!

I didn't get Newt's idea about Social Security. Older citizens receive Social Security income from younger generations. Now, Newt wants to allow younger generations to opt out of that system. It seems to me that that would leave senior citizens with no revenue supporting their Social Security checks. Thus, they would get no checks. Why is Mr. Gingrich opposed to the economic welfare of our nation's senior citizens? I suppose he himself is not worried. His years in Congress have ensured him a pension that will be paid by those same young workers he says he's trying to help. One way to do that would be to eliminate pension provided by the government to ex-legislators such as Newt. I'm surprised he hasn't thought of that.

Your reasoning is what a logic instructor would identify as a logical fallacy. Check it out.

But don't worry. You fit right into today's political environment. Lies are OK.

Allowing younger people to opt out of the failed SS system is a great idea. Because, marik, as you point out, SS is currently run as a Ponzi scheme where older members's money was all spent, and now they must rely on new enrollees for their retirement, there will be a gap in funding if the new Ponzi scheme members do not join and keep the Ponzi scheme funded.

So, there will have to be a gap made up from the general fund for this shortfall. And, even without people opting out of the system, it's going bankrupt so we'll have to jack up taxes on anyone who stays in it. Maybe 10% of your paycheck from now on.

    I'm opting out.

Newt says he is smarter than the other people trying to get the GOP nomination. I don't know that is saying much. I don't see anyone on the stage at the debates that looks like they are any kind of a threat to solve that old cold fusion problem. Actually I think Huntsman is very bright and Newt might be giving himself a little too much credit. The simple truth is intelligence and the GOP are like vinegar and water...they do not mix.

I make it a rule NOT to agree with any politician, of any age, any background, any persuasion or political party. BECAUSE everyone of them is likely to change without notice and screw with your values.

But today I feel the need to make this comment. I may regret this act tomorrow or later today after a cold Pepsi with some friends. Here goes: Newt (what a terrible name) is a brilliant dude, his political perspective is astonishing and his analysis is top notch, he is not good material for President in my view. he would be a great cabinet guy and that would be nice as far as I am concerned. President NO !

He has made some serious blunders in his personal life and I question his personal values today. However when it comes to doing right for the "Good Ol' US of A" he is at thee top of the list. Cabinet member yes.. President NO!

        That's all.

Just look at their record then look at the lobby money supporting them. That is who you elect and not the politician. He is just the marketing manager. Newt could kick some serious ass with the Federal Reserve and military contractors getting our economy out of this mess but he won't.

Newt is in too deep with his well connected supporters - owes too many "favors" - and has little desire to make the radical changes necessary to please the radicalized middle class. He simply has no passion for what needs to be done and never has.

Base on the debates so far ,you wouldn't really need to be too smart to outdo any candidates so far. Remember Newty manyof us voters have lived through your travails several times .We know how smart you really think you are. your tastes and actions with wives and mistresses is not that good either.

Have to laugh every time I remember all the gaffaws--like women shouldn't be in the military because "they get infections" and the one about men are meant to be out their "shooting giffaffes" while women stay at home and cook them. Or old homes for the elderly. Go back to sleep,Newt, as I thought we were done with your backward Georgia Neaderthal crap some 15 years ago!

Yes, of course Gingrich is smarter than all the Republican candidates, and Barack Obama for that matter.

But that's besides the point, he's an adulterer so he's disqualified. Maybe a VP for Herman Cain who could rise to the purple after a few more years of penance, provided it's cheating-free.

New polls from our fiberal friends over at Democracy Corps (D), with incongruent results:

Flip Romney is only down 2% in Connecticut to Obama!!! 47% to 45% (9/30) but

according to the same outfit is trailing by 1%, 46% to 45%, in Florida, (9/29) which doesn't seem to add up.

If you're that close in blue Connecticut, you should be up 5+ in Florida...

The rightwing is running this party from now on, and if you're some centrist/Dole wannabe/Rockefeller Repub, shut up and get in line. You exist to pad majorities on key committees in Congress, and occasionally steal a senate seat from a Democrat in a very blue state, that's all. No leadership positions in any branch are available to you. Be seen and not heard.

Let me get this straight, the man who was once speaker of the house created a document called the "Defense of marriage" act and a pledge to America to uphold those family values at all costs. The man then turns around and is having an affair all the while his wife is in the hospital dying of cancer, did I get that right Newt? The republicans have a funny definition of what "smart" is, Newt that's not you.

Social issues, morals and values have no place in the federal government as far as trying to push them onto other people no matter what the reasoning.

The road to social destruction is laden with good intentions.

                            #45.2 - Fri Sep 30, 2011 7:47 PM EDT

Adams, the road to social destruction is paved with people like you who keep chirping,

"it's no big deal, it's no big deal"

about every immoral thing, even as we see the costs of stupid sexual decisions piling up higher and higher.

What would the poverty rate be if we had as few single mothers today as we did in 1950? Half. Capitalism over time produces more and more rich people and more and more middle class people and fewer and fewer poor people. Unless we screw it up by turning into a bunch of degenerates having kids out of wedlock from people in their teens and 20s, creating poverty that shouldn't exist. Look up how many single parent homes are in poverty, and imagine what the rate would be without them.

More judging, less "it doesn't matter".
