Paul condemns 'assassinating' al-Awlaki

MANCHESTER NH -- Ron Paul aggressively criticized President Obama today for al-Awlaki's death.

"No I don't think that's a good way to deal with our problems," Paul said in a media avail after his remarks at the Politics + Eggs event here. "He was born here, Al-Awlaki was born here, he is an American citizen. He was never tried or charged for any crimes. No one knows if he killed anybody. We know he might have been associated with the underwear bomber. But if the American people accept this blindly and casually that we now have an accepted practice of the president assassinating people who he thinks are bad guys, I think it's sad.

"I think what would people ... have said about Timothy McVeigh? We didn't assassinate him, who certainly he had done it. Went and put through the courts then executed him. To start assassinating American citizens without charges, we should think very seriously about this."

Does he feel the same about Bin Laden? "

Not exactly. "Because he was involved in 9/11 and I voted for authority to go after those individuals responsible for 9/11," Paul said. "Al-Awlaki nobody ever suggested that he was participant in 9/11."

The GOP needs to get it's chits together and decide, do we want trials for terrorists, or no trials for terrorists? You can't have it both ways. The guy masterminded three known attacks on the US and UW forces. What more does Ron Paul need? Obama's decision and Paul's reaction is the difference between being the President and merely wanting to be the President. From USA Today...

"...once Al Alawi mastered the power of the Internet as a propaganda tool, he became a metastatic threat. The message that once reached a few hundred ears now reached hundreds of thousands. Inevitably a handful of angry, isolated men responded.

One was Nidal Hasan, the Army major charged with shooting 13 people in a rampage at Fort Hood in Texas in 2009. He exchanged e-mails with al-Awlaki, his only known connection to terrorists.

Another was the accused Times Square bomber, Faisal Shahzad, a Pakistani American who might have killed hundreds had his plot succeeded. He was completely off counterterrorist radar screens and told authorities he was inspired by al-Awlaki.

Al-Awlaki also inspired Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the "underwear bomber" whose attempt to bring down an airliner in 2009 barely failed. An alienated student in London, Abdulmutallab contacted al-Awlaki, who set him on his path.

Ron Paul and his supporters need to stop taking those "legalized" drugs they're always hankering for....

I wish the commie morons would leave paul alone. Just a bunch of ENEMIES OF FREEDOM. oh its ok for LA RAZA ,RE CONQUESTA ,BLACK PANTHERS , NAACP, and esspecialy any 'JEWISH' orginazations to pay into any canidate they see fit , but when a WHITE PERSON has backing from his own WHITE people that disagree with enemy of freedom media (Z.O.G.) then " his financing should be looked at". I disagree or should i say HATE' how everything is the WHITE PEOPLE'S FAULT . This is the country we as a people made ,and the really funny thing is nearly every 'NATIVE AMERICAN' friend I have agree with me on this. They sure as hell do not want they're tribes being agressivlly handed over to 'LA RAZA' ,and they really dispise who controls the banking in ths country. I hope " DAVID YEAGLEY" (great great grandson of comanche CHIEF 'BAD EAGLE') wins his law suit against commie ARA ,ANTI-FA TERRORISTS. It isn't just whites who are fed up with this ,when there are native americans joining in our fight! hey MSNBC why not do a story with some credible substance instead of this so called commie banter about' TOLERANCE' ?

Now Ron Paul is completely out of the race for me. QUESTION: what was his son Rand Paul doing inside AIR FORCE ONE with Obama and flying around Washington, DC last week during the debate? Anybody got a clue? When Dr. Ron Paul was asked that question at the end of the debate, he had absolutely no explanation whatsoever, he didnt even bother replying to the reporter, that was not right, he should have known his son was in there with the president dont you think? If per chance he was unaware he should have stated that.

It's infortunate that this simpleton, or any of his gene pool, has a forum. I surmise with this latest rant that 9-11 and it's under pinnings must have faded in his aging memory....but this isn't anything new for this esteemed politician...it's merely more of the same. Actually, there's an old adage that covers most of what the congressman says; "Don't condemn the war without a suitable alternative". Wherein, The Congressman continues to condemn any and all government department or act....He says do away with, The Fed, The Treasury, The Dept of Education, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc, etc, yet with no plausible manner with which to replace same....Are there frailies in these areas of government, most assuredly, but to absent mindedly throw out the good with the bad is ridiculous, but it just proves to illustrate that he's a no more than a simplistic ass, with simplistic solutions to serious issues....To that end, these are serious times that should be dealt with by serious people..... and by his own word(s) he proven himself not to be one of that select group.

He was an American citizen. He deserved a trial unlike all of the other terrorists. Bill Ayers, Obama's good friend, did far worse than this guy and Ayers is teaching at U.I.C. :/

Ron Paul, with ever-increasing speed is quickly allowing voters to actually watch him disintegrate as a viable candidate; he is a joke as a politician and his diminishing followers are just disgruntled kooks. To apply a civil rights issue for a sworn enemy of the United States, regardless of the enemy's birth-rite citzenship, is an insult to all. This person, Al Awlaki, was a rogue human being. To preach to others to become suicide bombers as an act of being pro-God, while you remain in hiding is treacherous. Think of the confused, psychologically vulnerable, and marginalized populations that, on this man's word, killed themselves and others. Personally, I do not care how he died; the important thing is he is dead.

The problem I see ever time there is an important debate such as this, 90% of the people involved in the "debate" can't seem to stick to the subject at hand. They would rather throw political stones and herd themselves into "camps".

This is absolutely ridiculous. The liberal-minded in this country should be outraged with Obama at this policy. Killing American citizens via assassination, without trial or due process, as guaranteed in the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution is no less egregious than some of the stuff Bush did while in office, like killing habeas corpus with the Military Commissions Act.

Yet, now your "liberals" are silent, and even defensive of this atrocious policy of assassinating Americans - criminal as they are alleged to be - without a trial.

Disgusting! Stop this nonsense of political camps and open your eyes. This is creeping authoritarianism and you better wake up! Just because it's "your guy" doing the law-breaking today doesn't mean it will be tomorrow, at which point YOU might find yourselves the targets. We'll see how much you like it then.

You guys confusing Dr. Ron Paul for a Bush republican really shows your ignorance. Obama's got you all turned around...liberals used to care about this kind of stuff.....You don't think about how many terrorists we have created for decades by our actions over there either. What fools.........

Ron Paul looks at every decision through the Constitution "goggles". We as Americans have the right to trial and are innocent till proven guilty. So regardless of what people may think of al-Awlaki or what he may or may not have done regarding 9/11, if he is an American citizen he has the right to trial. Ron Paul makes a great point: If you were randomly pulled over, taken to jail, accused of a treacherous crime, and then executed without trial, would that be right? Should the President be allowed to kill whomoever he finds to be an enemy of the state? That sounds like facism and a dictatorship to me.
