MANCHESTER NH -- Ron Paul aggressively criticized President Obama today for al-Awlaki's death.
"No I don't think that's a good way to deal with our problems," Paul said in a media avail after his remarks at the Politics + Eggs event here. "He was born here, Al-Awlaki was born here, he is an American citizen. He was never tried or charged for any crimes. No one knows if he killed anybody. We know he might have been associated with the underwear bomber. But if the American people accept this blindly and casually that we now have an accepted practice of the president assassinating people who he thinks are bad guys, I think it's sad.
"I think what would people ... have said about Timothy McVeigh? We didn't assassinate him, who certainly he had done it. Went and put through the courts then executed him. To start assassinating American citizens without charges, we should think very seriously about this."
Does he feel the same about Bin Laden? "
Not exactly. "Because he was involved in 9/11 and I voted for authority to go after those individuals responsible for 9/11," Paul said. "Al-Awlaki nobody ever suggested that he was participant in 9/11."

I hope this comes up at the next "Republiturd/'baggernut Comedy Debate Show". I wanna hear ol'man Ron Paul and the Ms. Hypnotized sow-- defend their neo-nut defense of this traitorous b**turd, who's humpin' 72 ugly virgins in Hades. Those two 'baggernut idiots just had to dis Obama over this. Disgusting!
BTW: Obama wins in 2012...!!!
On December 4, 1981, President Ronald Reagan issued Executive Order 12333 on “United States Intelligence Activities.” Section 2.11 of the order provides: “Prohibition on Assassination. No person employed by or acting on behalf of the United States Government shall engage in, or conspire to engage in, assassination.” Section 2.12 of the order prohibits indirect participation in activities prohibited by the order, stating: “Indirect participation. No agency of the Intelligence Community shall participate in or request any person to undertake activities forbidden by this Order.” E.O. 12333 is still in force.
I love you Gloria Fabiaschi! I really do! You are a patriot, and i know the purity of your conviction.

I sincerely wish everyone on this forum to never be called a terrorist and killed without due process. I am seriously afraid my wish will not be granted. The way things are going, some of us commenters will suffer this way, without any guilt of theirs, and soon. With Ron Paul as the President, I would be less concerned.
I'm sure Ron Paul would put a stop to drone strikes against newsvine commenters. Vote for Ron Paul !!
I appreciate your caution. However, I am concerned that being too cautious can have devastating consequences. There are VERY few actions where the consequences fall solidly at either pole of the issue. Thus, the best we can seek to do is maximize the positives while minimizing the negatives. Some situations demand we hold our noses against the stench, and still move forward. The beauty of our form of government is that we get a chance to correct via constitutional means. By the way, I have so impressed with the cutting insights. Yet given that election turnouts are consistently south of 50%, I wonder how many posters actually went to the polls?
I usually respect Mr. Pauls positions and consitency, even if I don't always agree with his viewpoint. I was a little disappointed in him with this. In particular the comparison with Timothy McVey sounded like the kind of logic that the politicians who Paul usually disparages stoop to.
If we'd had al-Awlaki in custody the comment would have been valid. We certainly wouldn't have walked into a cell and shot him in the head. Conversely if McVey had been free and his actions were considered to be a threat to the lives of non-combat Americans, we might very well have killed him.
Apples and oranges. Unbecoming of you, Ron. It makes me wonder if you too will do or say whatever you think it takes to draw attention to yourself and your brand, like virtually all major politicians. You fell down a notch in my view.

Good riddance of another terrorist. I believe that terrorist have the same rights as their vicitims. None. Would have been smarter for mr Paul to keep his big trap shut on this one. I believe about 95 % of Americans will disagree with him on this one.
Ronnie boy, believe you just shot yourself in the foot with that. Shouldn't play with things you don't know how to handle.
I have a fantasy, it's "some day I would like to see the USA return to that now defunct nation."
Ron Paul is wrong about many things, just add this to the list. The deceased was a terrorist. He was inciting other terrorists to kill Americans, not soldiers who signed up for the risk, but civilians. So, what were a choices, Send him a letter inviting him to surrender, then wait for him to show up? Do people really expect that he would have surrendered to police or troops, had we surrounded his home? How many "Americans" are shot resisting arrest who have warrants outstanding? Did Bonnie and Clyde have a trial? How many people die each year at the hands of the police refusing to come out of their homes, holding hostages? Some were mentally unbalanced, others simply did not want to go to jail. Where is Ron Paul when those events happen? Where was Ron Paul when Ben Laden was executed? Consider the alternatives, capture the terrorist, then hold a trial, and watch the radicals begin seizing hostages to negotiate a swap of prisoners? Sure Mr. Paul, you are right--Not! When you declare war on the US, there are consequences, be you a citizen or a foreign national.
The man openly and notoriously committed treason against the United States of America, his own country, we cannot shirk our responsibility to take him out--in fact we should take him out first if for no other reason than to demonstrate our seriousness of purpose. No quarter asked and none given, treason is punishable by death.
Hatred of Obama sure makes for strange bedfellows, its amusing to see conservatives on this blog siding with the ACLU!! Hang in their guys, you'll find some way to condemn the President over this. Ridiculous!
The neo-nuts are very proud to be in the "Dumbing Down of America Club". Seems they all have "I Am Stupid" I.D. cards.
Their hatred of Obama is mostly racial. No surprise.
Yet it is still OK with the Doctor that Americans die everyday in this country because they cannot afford to get the treatment they need for many treatable illnesses. Treatment that al-Awlaki would be able to get if he was taken into custody because Americans in jail have the right to get medical treatment, at the taxpayers expense, whether the taxpayers can get treatment for themselves or not.
And I am pretty sure that people who commit treason are enemies, whether they are foreign or domestic is irrelevant, and subject to execution according to the Constitution.
Food for thought.
Nanasan: Only thing is, the US Government used to charge, capture, try, and convict before we executed our citizens. Even Rick Perry's Texas government at least followed the form of the rule of law.
President Obama has moved beyond the rule of law to a dictatorship where mere accusation allows execution.
dirp101 - the thing is that Obama can actually read and understand reports from the CIA and FBI even though there are lots of big word and no pictures. Unlike the guy before him.
Excuse me. If you are an American citizen plotting terrorist attacks, or complicit in any way, shape or form against The United States of America, it is called TREASON and you have forfeited your rights as a citizen. We ARE at War with Terrorists' and these disgusting creatures should be obliterated from the planet. No mercy or sympathy from them as they committ horrific acts of terror against innocent men, women and children. Show them NO QUARTER, NO MERCY, PERIOD!
Even American citizens who allegedly commit treasonous and heinous acts are protected by the constitution to receive due process. This clause in the 14th amendment protects all Americans from improper treatment from our government. Once we give a president the power to assassinate American citizens without due process-no matter how evil they are- we subject all American citizens to the same threat. The Supreme Court may, in the future, use this incident to justify government assassinations for citizens who publicly oppose policy and who recruit others to support their cause. This is how the slippery slope begins.
Very good day for the neoconservatives as well as for the liberal warmongers. Very bad day for for the Constiutition. Ron Paul and Jeremy Scahill had some important comments regarding the assassination of this American citizen.
t
You never know what the hell will come out of Ron Pauls mouth................he is scary at best.
Are you aware that Ron Paul voted yes to authorize the president to seek out and capture or kill those associated with the 911 attacks on the United States? You never heard him object to the killing of bin Laden. His decision had nothing to do with his sediment or lack of towards the terrorists, but it was entirely based on the rule of law and the inalienable rights that our Constitution affords us as American citizens- bin Laden was not an American citizen and he attacked the United States.
And your "expert", Susan Lindauer, is a certified whacko nut-case.
As always paid contibutors like Spanky go off half cocked and spout as if they are aware of laws etc. Spanky I used to think you knew something but the more I read your drivel the more I realize you ar3e not even spouting your own but instead just follow along the perscribed path. Another wasted mind is all you have turned out to be.
All this arguing aside, I'm really glad this b*stard is dead. Have fun in Hell, Al Wacki!
ALL terrorist throughout the world have a "Wanted Dead or Alive warrant hanging over their heads"" That includes criminals wanted right here in the USA. Military or police officials who locate these criminals have an international right to take them out. This young fool, and anyone who wants to forfeit their constitutional rights, can let what happen to this poor brain washed fool be their lesson in the future. Don't join or associate with none terrorist, or criminals, and you will not be harmed when they are destroyed. This man was not an American citizens, he was a terrorist. Ron Paul and the Tea/Republican congress was also upset with President Obama for bringing down their terrorist leader in Libya. ''WAR FIGHTER OUT""HOOAY""
Life is far to complicated for thinking people to degenerate into a political food fight when the issues are so weighty for our nation. I am left of center on most issues and right of center on others. Death Penalty--- Laws are never deterrents unless the person contemplating the crime sees the consequences as to great. The death penalty is currently a socially accepted consequence for taking another person's life. Let's get rid of the ambiguity in the dispensing of consequences. Mind control is not the purview of law, behavior control is. We rightly expect people to control their behaviors by utilization of their mind's. If not there are penalties for the behavior. War on Terror?--- Can be done! Terror is an emotion. We can't wage war on an emotion. We are are waging a war against terrorist who seek to harm us. Al-Awlaki fits the bill. In WAR enemies are supposed to be killed. By the above definition he, again, fits the bill. Nationality nor citizenship removes you from the cross-hairs when one is a war enemy.
The media, of all stripes, makes enormous money by keeping citizens fixated of powerful miniscule sound bites. Serious issues can not be distilled into glib little slogans. Drill baby Drill--- Yes our energy dependency demands more oil. But the deeper question is at what cost? This cost, like our out of control governmental spending, is simply being passed along to future generation so we can indulge our present petro-appetite. Let's think about our collective priorities. I look at a lot issues through the eyes of my 17 month old grandson. I seriously ask myself, what kind of world am I going to leave to him and the grandchildren of others? To me that is quite a sobering question. As such I will not stop doing what I can to make this a better place.
Paul does'nt know what he's talking about. American citizenship is not a protection for stupidity. If you are stupid enough to defy the U.S. you suffer the consequence. U.S. Citizenship can be given and taken away. The Democrats are proud now because these things happened on their time. Before they were so against this. They said this is premeditated murder and other liberal blubberings. With the technology now, those wanting to cause problems in the United States will hasten their meeting with their god.
With a comment like that, I believe someone should look a little deeper into Mr. Paul's campaign financing. It's better to be safe than sorry.
Good point! And what exactly was his son, Rand Paul doing inside AIR FORCE ONE flying around Washington, DC with Obama during the debate last week instead of supporting his dad in the audiance or privately at home? His father didn't answer the reporter's question during his interview after the debate, he evaded it altogether like poison.
