MANCHESTER NH -- Ron Paul aggressively criticized President Obama today for al-Awlaki's death.
"No I don't think that's a good way to deal with our problems," Paul said in a media avail after his remarks at the Politics + Eggs event here. "He was born here, Al-Awlaki was born here, he is an American citizen. He was never tried or charged for any crimes. No one knows if he killed anybody. We know he might have been associated with the underwear bomber. But if the American people accept this blindly and casually that we now have an accepted practice of the president assassinating people who he thinks are bad guys, I think it's sad.
"I think what would people ... have said about Timothy McVeigh? We didn't assassinate him, who certainly he had done it. Went and put through the courts then executed him. To start assassinating American citizens without charges, we should think very seriously about this."
Does he feel the same about Bin Laden? "
Not exactly. "Because he was involved in 9/11 and I voted for authority to go after those individuals responsible for 9/11," Paul said. "Al-Awlaki nobody ever suggested that he was participant in 9/11."

god bless drones, taking care of our enemies without putting our soldiers in harms way...
I am one of those liberals who some in their comments have said our heads would explode over this. I'm afraid in this case (or at least in my case) you are wrong. Mr. al-Awlaki abandoned his country voluntarily, publicly advocated the killing of innocent women and children, and went from being a propaganda leader to operationally planning and involvement in attempted attacks on the U.S. If ever someone fit the definition of "enemy combatant" as well as traitor then this man fit the bill, and IMHO when you actively join in a war against the U.S., irregardless of the right or wrong of our position vs. their position, then you set yourself up to be a target. The reality of life is combatants get smoked, and trials usually don't happen.

What a dumb statement. We are not going into Libya with ground troops. If you would stop listening to Fox Lies so much you would learn the truth. First of all, Oama was highly criticized by Sarah Palin and John McCain for not going into Libya fast enough. They would have sent troops in right away without even thinking. Obama took the time to form a coalition with NATO. Those two republican idiots use their ignorant shoot first and ask questions later mentality to do things. That is what got us into the Iraq war.
The enemy = Tea Party doing what the Red's and Al Queda want to do
to the US fo AMERICA, to Destroy it.
Ron Paul is not representing the views of the Tea Party- He's completely wrong on this
From Judson Phillips Tea Party Nation
At least Judson has a little good to say about the Obama administration. There is zero good to say about the right wing radical cracked teapots.
Ron Paul is not a patriot.
WELL THEN!Describe a Patriot!
This is ONCE I will have to agree with Obama and Ron Paul will never be president.
This is a relevant watch. Maybe it will change your mind, maybe not:

Ron Paul is an idiot! He wants to be a hardliner and let Americans die if they don't have health insurance yet he is against killing an American-born terrorist that has declared war on the United States and all Americans. Way-to-go Obama!!!!!!!!
One trend in these comments disturbs me. If you are an American citizen you have rights. If you are NOT an American citizen, and we debate that later, you seem to have NO rights!
I hold it as factual that everyone has rights. Some may have more than others, true. Some may have abandoned some of their rights. Some rights might belong only to 'citizens', such as voting or running for office. But let's face it, and I not addressing this particular individual here, people from other nations expect to have rights when it comes down to American justice.
Is anyone concerned about the precedents being defined right now? While the trauma of 9/11 is still so prevalent?
How quick are we to deny to others the rights we claim for ourselves! I rather like the saying:
"Those who would give up freedom for safety deserve neither!"
This guy was at war against America. It just happened that we took him out first!
silverback you're talking to a bunch of Brick Walls. They wouldn't understand what you're saying unless it hit them right smack dab up the side of head
You are exactly right!
This is for Midwest: How dare you insult my intelligence! I do not believe that all (and the operative word here is all) Muslims are a threat to the peace and safety of the United States; neither do I believe that they should have to sew the letter M anywhere on their clothing, unlike the Nazis who forced the Jews to to put the letter J on their clothing. However, what I do believe is that if a known traitor of his/her country whose sole purpose is to take out by any means possible the United States and her people, then they must be severely dealt with. Can anyone understand that the American people are sick and tired of being sick and tired with all this mess? This a new day and I'll give it a name, its called the The Age of Terrorism.
I say drop him and his family into the middle of Yemen and see how much sympathy he gets then.
He is a traitor!
Can anybody tell me where a good place to have this trial would be and how would get him there without putting troops on the ground. See how well that worked when trials were attempted for the guys still at the "bay".
Great job American military for killing these terrorists !! It is better to kill these terrorists with drones than sending in our troops like we did in Iraq, and have thousands of our soilders killed.
AHAHAHAHAHAH
hahahah
um, lol
"Why Ron Paul is a joke"
A terrorist that intends to harm our citizens or destroy our country in any way should be taken down in a way that reduces our casualties.
Make every Muslim in this country, swear on their families honor, to support and obey all laws of the United States, and turn in it's enemies. If not! Ship them out of the country. Who the puck needs them.
Make Obama swear again too.
Hey, PTP...I hope your taxes go up 1000%. You 'baggernuts/haters are all totally out of your bean-size minds! (post#576.1= u r FOS)
BTW:Obama wins again in 2012...!!!
Blow this! Ron Paul and that crew of Republican carpet-baggers will find fault with everything Obama does. They'll accuse and abuse the man and the office trying desperately to regain control over the U.S. If he wants to join al-Awaki and bin Laden against American lives, put him on trial for treason.
I'm very liberal, but I also believe in self defense. Al Walaki clearly joined a group that killed over 3000 Americans 10 years ago. He made himself a very legitimate target. I'd like the right wingers to stop accusing liberals of being "suicidal", because I am not. If someone like Al Walaki is threatening us, and in my mind he was, we Americans have every right to defend ourselves.
Ron Paul is an idiot. And he wants to be our President! That terrorist got what he deserved. Once someone commits to become an enemy of USA, expect to get blown away. That traitor POS won't hurt anymore USA citizens. This is something we need to do more often, find them and destroy them where they stand no matter where they stand.
Hmmm... Anwar al-Awlaki might have been born in the USA, but he became a turncoat - thereby renouncing his citizenship. In my opinion and belief, he was no longer a U.S. citizen. His death is further proof that you can run but you can't hide.

If Ron Paul thinks otherwise, that is his right to do so. I say good riddance to Anwar al-Awlaki. Amen and pass the biscuits, please.
By the way, Ron Paul's chances of getting elected POTUS are the exact same as him becoming the next Pope, or Czar of Russia, or The Grand Vizier of Boogaboogistan... In other words, it will never happen.
Bin Laden was not a U.S. citizen, and congress was granted authority to go after him. I don't see what point the end of the article is trying to make aside from a weak attempt at discrediting Dr. Paul.
Instead of calling RP and Gov. Johnson cooks maybe we should listen to the warnings they give.I think Gov Johnson put it best on the subject when he said
“If we allow our fervor to eliminate terrorist threats to cause us to cut corners with the Constitution and the fundamental rights of American citizens, whether it be invasions of privacy or the killing of someone born on U.S. soil, I could argue that the terrorists will have ultimately won."
Food for thought which seems to lacking around here these days.
I agree with a lot of what Paul says but seriously? What were we supposed to do, send a patrol car to Yemen to arrest him and then try to get him back here for trial?
