"No I don't think that's a good way to deal with our problems," Paul said in a media avail after his remarks at the Politics + Eggs event here. "He was born here, Al-Awlaki was born here, he is an American citizen. He was never tried or charged for any crimes. No one knows if he killed anybody. We know he might have been associated with the underwear bomber. But if the American people accept this blindly and casually that we now have an accepted practice of the president assassinating people who he thinks are bad guys, I think it's sad.
"I think what would people ... have said about Timothy McVeigh? We didn't assassinate him, who certainly he had done it. Went and put through the courts then executed him. To start assassinating American citizens without charges, we should think very seriously about this."
Does he feel the same about Bin Laden? "
Not exactly. "Because he was involved in 9/11 and I voted for authority to go after those individuals responsible for 9/11," Paul said. "Al-Awlaki nobody ever suggested that he was participant in 9/11."

You may be ok with the government breaking the law today when you agree with its action, but what about when they break the law again and you don't agree with their action? This sets a bad precedent and should indeed be condemned. The law is the law and there is no exception for people you don't like or disagree with.
I thought it was very clever of Bush Jr. to turn Saddam over to the Shiites for trial rather than an international court where he might have gotten a fair trial. Kind of like turning OJ Simpson over to the Goldman family. The outcome was not in doubt.
The laws of war are different than the laws of peace. Please try to discern the difference. If al-Awlaki did not make war on the US, he would have been subject to the laws of peace. He chose to join the enemy and make war on YOU. He has received Justice under the laws of war. Any enemy combatant may be killed, and should expect to be killed, by the Glorious and Victorious American Armed Forces.
Gotta love these republicans. Was Paul one of the republicans who thought that Obama should be charged with murder for killing bin Laden? Or was he one of the republicans who said that Obama didn't have anything to do with killing bin Laden because he didn't do it himself?

For those of you who write Ron Paul 2012 I wish to acknowledge that you are living a dream! in La La Land! His support in the republican party has maintained a 5-6% level and remember he had to have his own convention in 2008. As a liberal I can't even support his loony tune call for the legalization of drugs! Alzheimer's is a terrible disease!

Ron: Dude--Bin Laden was never tried. The pirate who kidnapped Americans and was shot in the head by Seal Team 6 sent by order of the President were never tried. You just detest Obama--and you have charged and tried that daily. If it's Principle, what is your position on black-site torture of people who have not been tried, many of whom are never charged with anything, and are then quietly released?
The point is not that killing Bin Laden was good (it was) or torture is bad, although that may very well be. As I've said before about this, the guy made a choice. He exercised his free will. He made a choice. He actually committed treason. He publicly announced his intentions. He got what he wanted. So from the interview this guy al awai gave, he was not in favor of killing innocent people. So he was killed because we have to many drones with nothing to shoot at? If he was a foreign born proven killer we would kill him first chance, but you have to have rules for killing an American citizen. And there are rules. First you have to convict him. Every American deserves their day in court. When we let them change that, you can be next!!!!!

Simple math ..... Take AMERICAN Citizenship; subtract advocacy for terror against AMERICAN citizens; and that equals NO AMERICAN citizenship: Take NO american citizenship; subtract formenting terror against American citizens and interest; and that equals FAIR GAME.

This guy WAS included in the group approved for capture or extermination by the House and Senate. For my part, he should have been, American citizen or not.

gloria. anyone who publicly claims to want to attack this country, who wants to kill Americans anywhere in the world, who swears allegiance to any terrorist organization, renounces his citizenship, and actually plans attacks to harm or kill people. well, I don't care. Do you think that man is worth one of our soldiers lives attempting his capture? Or 2? 3? 5? Or any other countries police personnel? No. he's not.

I believe everything the MSM and the government tells me. Why give anyone a trial? Why charge anyone as that just takes time and effort? The enemy (or criminal) is anybody the government says. We should just let the government do whatever it feels like doing and never question the accuracy or objectivity of the news given to us. Afterall, its our civic duty. Its what being a politically-correct, upstanding citizen is all about.
