Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Wednesday that he erred in last week's presidential debate, when he said that opponents of in-state college tuition for the children of illegal immigrants were heartless.
Perry said it was "inappropriate" for him to make the comment, on which other Republican presidential candidates -- especially former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney -- have seized.
"I probably chose a poor word to explain that. For people who don't want their state to be giving tuition to illegal aliens, illegal immigrants in this country, that's their call; I respect that," Perry told the conservative magazine Newsmax in an interview posted online Thursday. "I was probably a bit over-passionate by using that word and it was inappropriate."
The interview seeks to temper the fallout from last Thursday's debate in Florida, when he defended in stark terms the legislation he'd approved as governor that granted in-state college tuition to the children of illegal immigrants.
"[I]f you say that we should not educate children who have come into our state for no other reason than they've been brought there by no fault of their own, I don't think you have a heart. We need to be educating these children, because they will become a drag on our society," Perry said.
Romney, the other front-running candidate for the GOP presidential candidate, has used that line as a cudgel against Perry since the debate.
"I fundamentally believe that it doesn’t make a lot of sense for American taxpayers to pay for the college education of illegal aliens particularly at a time when American taxpayers are having a hard time financing education for their own children," Romney said Tuesday on conservative talk radio.
Perry didn't back off his support for the underlying decision to support the in-state tuition for the children of illegal immigrants. Ironically, Perry defended it on the same terms Romney has explained his state's healthcare plan; Perry said it was "a state's sovereign right" to decide how best to deal with issues of benefits for illegal immigrants.

The most hilarious part of the comment was - any Teapublican talking about having a heart! ;o)
Heartless bastards who want to balance their budget off the backs of what's left of the middle class, disabled, seniors & poor is more like it...
Put a stake in it!
And crazy old gal, don't forget about crazy.
It's hard to be compassionate when you are a crazy, neo-nazi racist that kills puppies.
Yet somehow we all seem to manage to get by.
I wonder though - you all think Maxine Waters thinks Obama has a heart when it comes to the CBC and black unemployment?
I tend to think she does not.
That is correct! For those people that thought he had a heart...he is saying that he doesn't...something that we knew already....
He forgot to mention that he also doesn't have anything inside the head...other than hot air.
Bottom line is that we have too many US citizens who are not college educated. Let's start there, rather than giving money away to non-citizens.
As usual, Feisty chooses to call names and insult rather than add to the discussion. The angry rabid left lives on even in victory....
Scarecrow - wanting a brain to the Tin-man needing a heart. Next week we move on to see who has all the courage, and in the end we throw water on Bachmann and see what happens.
I've seen this movie before.
Then in November 2012 we click our heels together and re-elect the only adult still left in the room.
Heartless.
Say or do something stupid and TRY to take it back. After Perry privatizes Social Security and the market tanks and people are getting SS checks of $39. a month - how will he take it back to the working system that it has always been?
Perry is flat-out dangerous. A loose cannon in a nation of loose cannons. Vision is vision shared.
"flip-flop flip-flop my bs is flowing out the top"
@Fiesty - Who was the heartless bastard who SPENT all middle class', disabled's, seniors' & poor's money and THEN SOME? Bush was a terrible, weak President, but Obama has created more debt in 2 1/2 years than Bush did in eight and is infinitely worse.
Obama's frivolous spending, $300,000+ per job stimulus, business wrecking Obamacare shoved down our throats, allowing QE1 & 2 causing massive inflation. THAT is what hurts the middle class the most. So who is it that has no heart?
Conservatives have never really had a heart, never really been compassionate. As far as the puppy killing, I'm sure they are against it if it is their own puppy.
So says Smiffy - who's incapable of seeing her own reflection in a mirror!
Got garlic? lol
That depends UJ - if there's a buck to be made off it, I'm not so sure...
hilarious is the idea of a liberal having a heart when they love to murder over a million innocent children every year.
say what you wish, he still is the only one talking tort reform
And we expected more, from someone who comes across as Jimmy Swaggart Jr.? I said he would last about as long as Trump did, and the polls are starting to back up that theory...
Crackers for Cain ~ 2012
Wow, Larry, that is a stretch, even for a David Barton devotee. Murdering children is immoral and against the law. Can't think of a lib I know that would think of such a thing. By the way, did you trace that G.Washington quote back to find out that you are wrong?
Puppy Killing?
Lib, libs, libs ...
Perry saves puppies.
Jogging with your lab puppy and a coyote wants to make puppy chow out of the lab?
Coyote picked the wrong puppy.
Should have picked a lib's .... certainly not Rick's, huh?
You don't run a country doing a little bill on tort reform Perry was right - they are heartless.....but that is about the only thing I respect that he is about.....
I will not vote for the party of the poor redistributing to the wealthy.... Dems have issues, but not nearly as extreme as the right... They represent a theocratic, oligarchy that supports Zionism, military expansionism and is tryng to create a fascist state. Yes - sounds wild, but then do you recall how Germany got where it was in the 1930's? One side in politics creating chaos, depression with no jobs, government changing to benefit a select group and big money trying to buy the political results? The public wanted order so bad, they ELECTED a fascist. They never thought it could get worse....
Is anyone here thinking at all?
Yeah Mitchj, make it heven harder for individuals to seek damages when they have been wronged. Like the guy who has been diagnosed with cancer but there was a doctor that knew about it 3 years earlier but never told the patient. Opps, the statute of limitations is up (2.5 yrs)! But hey, the earlier diagnosis still has not been disclosed. Too bad, the AMA has strict guidlines for malpractice, even though, nobody is sure when the clock should start on this one. Yeah, those malpracticers need more protection.
The first thing that struck me about Perry's mea culpa is that it is the second time in the last few weeks that he has admitted he wrong or made a mistake.
Other than Obama's bold acceptance and taking responsibility for causing NY City to take a giant collective pant's dump when a certain 747 was circling Manhatten for a photo shoot ..... has Obama ever admitted he was wrong or made a mistake?
Obama has the toughest job in the world, thousands of the toughest problems to solve ..... and AF1's mindless 9/11 scare is the only mistake, he's never been wrong?
Narcissists never have the capacity to question themselves, thus never learn.
Pass This Bill!
grover/upstate, typical of you both to ignore one of the problems with healthcare costs. just like your messiah, only with mother government will we all be saved.
bedding with ambulance chasers is not a very attractive position, but understandable i suppose.
and libs are the first to cry out against special interest influence, yet bend over when the tort lobby comes into the picture.
silly hypocrites
As a middle of the road voter, Perry is scaring me. The reason is he is making a lot of sense, but sadly is backing away from two positions that have the potential to make a tremendous difference in the lives of many in Texas. Mandatory HPV vaccination (and should be for boys as well) will save countless women from cervical cancer with extremely low risk from the vaccination. We vaccinate our children against other illnesses, HPV should be included.
Now he takes flak over educating children of illegal immigrants. What he says makes perfect sense. If we do not provide a path for them to be educated, they become the next generation living in poverty, drawing from the system instead of contributing to it. Please remember, children of illegals that are born in the U.S. are citizens. It doesn't matter what you think about illegal immigration, they are citizens and will live off the system if they cannot find good jobs. Any poor child in this country can attend college at a reduced rate, through grants and scholarships. What is discouraging is that he has backed away from his position. And I agree, it is heartless to attempt to prevent any child from being educated.
I don't think I could vote for Perry, but his stance on these two issues make sense. Sadly, common sense is sorely lacking in this country. Rather, we are lead like sheep by the talking heads - and I mean both liberal and conservative. We do not think any more, and if you do not believe me, just read the posts in most of the political threads in Newsvine.
So, Romney, grandson of a polygamist family anchor baby who lived on the public doll while transitioning to Cali, wants to disenfranchise those without Mormon white privilege.
Perry made the right call. Too bad he is back peddling.
Romney is swimming in a sea of B.S.
Yeah Grover, big corporations work out real well for the millions of "common joes" that they employ.
Slicky Ricky's on vacation again. Yep it's Baby Seal clubbing season, Anita didn't want to go so He took Bachmann instead.
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
As ususal taking a swipe at the Tea Party that Obama supporters are so scared of. They are not the ones that came up with Obama care to take 500 billion out of medicare and force us all down to the level of government dependent medical care. It wasn't them that just proposed giving the unions some work and wasting more money while taking another 300 million from medicare. Nopeee that would be Obama.
The Republicans and the Tea Party are trying to find a way to save both programs and have insured in the process that todays seniors and disabled dependent on these programs will be ok. Obama just wants us and our programs out of his socialis t way.
To the right-wing riff raff: 1) Of course Perry is back-peddling on his comments about illegals because he answers to Limbaugh like everyone else in the Teapublican Party; 2) Stop taking President Obama's speech to the annual awards dinner of the Congressional Black Caucus out of context. The president was also talking to all his supporters, telling them to fight. And; 3) Being pro-life is NOT being pro-abortion. No one wants an abortion you idiot.
GroverLipscomb - Give that spin the blame Obama game behind. It isn't working and is getting real tiresome. Tax the rich, blame the banks, blame the corporations. How about blame the guy who has no clue what he is doing and has driven our economy over a cliff providing jobs for unions even thought they were only temporary and didn't really fix what needed fixing and giving compaign contributor a few of our billions to waste on green factories that went broke.
I left out the tort reform, which is a "drop in the bucket" issue and has already been addressed... But, the cuts in Medicare were funds given to health providers IN ADDITION to regular Medicare payout. In other words, subsidies to for-profit doctors and clinics/hospitals were eliminated. Real Medicare benefits were actually expanded as a part of the Affordable Health Care Act.
If only this was reported on FAUX Noise, please Lord save us!
Perry is an idiot! We've had two in a row now, we certainly don't need another one!
Comments from Tea Party(s) members should indicate WHICH Tea Party they belong to (who is financing them). Is it one that is fiscal conservative, or one that is social conservative, or both.
Maybe identify yourself as a Koch, or an Army TP'er so we know where you are coming from and who is financing you.
RationalOne w/numbers...Bush didn't have to create debt, Clinton left him with buckets of money. Then Shrub started a nasty little (series of) war(s) that has/have drained us...and he left it to whomever got elected after him...Democrat or Republican.
both parties are so screwed up...plain bob 2012...same old... same old...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQcgNOoyLvg
I hoped Perry really had a heart after what he said about children of illegals. Anyone who can exchange a heartfelt moral truth for political expediency has no heart themselves. Perry is simply seining the electorate for a political bias acceptable to both the establishment and tea party republicans. Just another 2 watt light bulb in a world wired for sunshine.
It does not matter whether he now thinks it was inappropriate faux pas to refer to critics of his in-state college tuition rate policy for children of illegal immigrants heartless or not, what kills his chances of winning the GOP nomination is the fact that he championed and signed that legislation in the first place. Add to that a mandatory vaccination program for teenage girls paid for with taxpayer's monies and his comments on Social Security and his chances to win the GOP nomination are slim to none.
Perry's immigration problem, and for that matter Romney's healthcare program in Massachussetts and his about face on abortion, is not President Obama or the Democrats but the fact that there records represent the opposite to what modern-day Republican orthodoxy stands for. Both are finished and all you have to do is look at the desperate efforts the GOP is making to find a viable and "clean" candidate to realize that.
The only acceptable think to have come from Texas was Hold'em Poker!
Absolutely right.
John Stewart was correct when he said the the problem is not the candidates, it's the Republican voters... they end up hating every candidate they find, and they can't even keep a consistent message. They are pro-life, but cheer for executions. They are against death panels, but become a death panel and demand death if someone can not afford medical care. They support the troops, then mock and "boo" troops, dependent on their bedroom activities.
If Jesus Christ appeared, he would be cast aside and called a "lefty liberal" by the current GOP/TP.
Actually, I think the current GOP/TP needs to look at Fred Phelps (the military funeral protestor) as a candidate. He hates gays, hates illegal aliens, hates the poor, lives his life based on Old Testament laws, and is obviously against taxes because he runs a tax-free organization. Sounds perfect for them.
Anyone ever wonder why a far right conservative who otherwise is all for dismantling what is left of the social safety net and dismantling what is left of the middle class, and impoverishing us all - is all for educating the illegal aliens that are here ILLEGALLY?
Let me explain it to you...
Illegal aliens have been bussed in by corporations. Yes, you read that right - they have been bussed in, from Mexico - to work in places like IBP and Tyson's meat packing plants. Cheap labor, under the table.
The Republicans know - they look the other way. Because the republicans are the business owners.
They give lip service to doing something about illegal aliens when forced to, to appease the pseudo-republicans (non-business-owners who are too blinded by nationalist jingoism to see what is really happening), to keep up appearances. But in secret, Republicans are primarily responsible for the problem, and corporations have actually gone south of the border actively recruiting. Its the honest truth.
They want that cheap labor. Its greed. Its Corporatism, its fascism (corporate and state power merged).
But why encourage free education for those illegals too? Easy. Cheap EDUCATED labor. Then they can replace the few jobs we have left that pay well with a population that has been historically conditioned to accept what crumbs they are given and not ask for better. Pretty despicable, but this is what they are up to.
What confounds me is that these kinds of businessmen have lost the kind of - morality - that leads them to understand well paid and well treated workers means a successful business, and customers that have money to buy their products. This is a self-destructive kind of economy that drags everyone down into greater poverty. Free trade has been sold to us as a way to reduce poverty around the world. But no, it is a race to the bottom, while a few men accumulate massive piles of wealth. Free trade has been yet another boondoggle foisted on the American people, just like the Federal Reserve Act, that took control of our currency.
The illegals problem wont stop until we get to the bottom of the problem in this country - and the problem is corporatocracy. Look around you - it is to blame for all of our woes. Somehow, we must get a handle on the corporate beast - and the banking beast looms right along beside it.
"They" are transforming this country - from little boxes of ticky tacky all in a row, to favelas - poverty stricken living, and they are teaching us to accept that. They are teaching us that if we dont work two part time jobs that we are lazy. They are teaching us that unions are bad. They want YOU to be the easily exploitable individual they currently employ in China, and that they bus from over the border.
This is where we are headed.
A liberal's definition of having a heart: Force someone else to pay! Ever notice how the "rich" libs who talk about they are not paying enough, yet they hire all the experts they can to keep their taxes to the minimum and never volunteer to pay more to the government. That sums up what a lib is: do as I say, not as I do.
As opposed to the Republicans who volunteer to pay more? Liberalism is "do as I say, not as I do?"
StrengthInNumbers is spot on!!! Nice post.
Dems and Reps, it does not matter anymore, once a symbolic title as a doctrine of ones basic beliefs means little in todays world. Free Trade? A way to bring the rest of the world to a higher more equal level has backfired! As strength indicated, corporate greed has moved the nations to a level of equality through the lowering of the standards and quality of life. Tariffing is non-existent, 18% in 1780, 1.3% in 2011. Why? Special interests? Corporate Greed? Lobbying? call it whatever you like, the fact is that a very select few have made billions upon billions in free trade, and they don't intend of letting it go. Look at the millions put into lobbying to remove the Glass-Steagall Act, put in place after the 1929 crash. It was enacted because of the greed then, once removed in 1998 (I believe) Commercial Banking and Investment Houses were now free to join, thus allowing Commercial Banks to act on speculation and gamble with customers deposits. We should thank the 3 republicans Gramm, Leach, and Bliley for their seeming non biased opinion that this Deregulation would be good for America? Well, it took 10 years for the greed to take it's toll, resulting in the banking bailout, and still deregulated.
The goverment has been bought and paid for! Corporations rule this country as they do most of the world, it is right in front of us and it can't be denied, yet nothing is being done to prevent it again because there is too much profit at the top. It disgusts me and should you! We post about unions, having a heart, immigration etc.. But those issues really would not be as prominent if we fixed the problem to begin with, the real problem!! The separation of Government and Corporations.
Newly Independent,
Yes, YES, YES! If Jesus were to appear today he would be cast aside as a false messiah and crucified by Rush Limbaugh. Oh well, so much for the rapture, eh?
My Favorite Bumper Sticker:
"Jesus may not have been the FIRST liberal, but he was the most important Liberal."
I still cannot rectify in my mind the "holier than thou" crowd and conservative politics. And when you point this out to them they get all uppity and tell you "This has nothing to do with religion."
Excuse me?
You know the GOP/TP/LDS posters like to refer to President Obama as "your messiah" in various negative ways. Wouldn't it be ironic if he WERE?
LUUUUUUCY! You got some 'splainin' to doooooooooo."
America Held Hostage, day 272
Obama/Biden 2012
To Shakingmyhead above, so if I understand you correctly, your saying that Obama is a socialist who wants to get rid of Social Security and Medicare.
Please re read your comment. Doesn't seem to make any sense at all.
Hey Fiesty: Read the comment from shakingmyhead above, would you really be suggesting that someone wants to do away with Social Security and Medicaid, then refer to them as a socialist. Am I missing something?
If Jesus were to appear today, he would be asked to leave our schools, our social events and our leadership meetings. We do not want to have chuch and state combined!
To J100: I am not a Rick Perry fan but I have to agree wholeheartedly on your above post.
leecenm
Jesus said "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and render unto God that which is God's."
In that simple statement he endorsed the separation of church and state. But I believe he was equally clear when he said that we should help the poor and less fortunate, protect and nurture children and he didn't make any exceptions for politics, race or income level. He believed it was the right thing to do whether you are in government or the "private sector".
If Jesus, the Jesus of the New Testament, were to return today he would not enter politics, he would not run for office, he would not wish to lead from a council chamber or a pulpit. He would work with the poor, the elderly and the down-trodden and he would expect his followers, his true believers, to do the same. That's what I believe and so saying I do not believe that the so-called Christian Right exemplify ANY of those qualities.
They would deny him three times because what he taught and what he would teach today would be the exact opposite of everything they truly believe and hold dear. He would be castigated by FOX and Rush Limbaugh, denied by the 700 Club.
Perhaps you should forget Sunday school and read STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND.
Obama/Biden 2012
I agree Jesus would help the downtrodden, the sick, the elderly and the less fortunate . He would however be teaching the Bible. This would be offensive to a lot of people. Just saying.
Leecee,
No, I doubt Jesus would teach from "The Bible". After all, the Bible is just someone elses third had version, translated through at least three languages, of what he said.
Now I don't want to appear under false colors here. I am not a Christian in the sense that I do not believe in God or in the divinity of Jesus. I am one of those who do not believe in combining church and state or church and school UNLESS it is a private religious school receiving NO federal assistance. But I do have deep respect for the teachings of the rabbi from Nazereth and I believe this world would be a better place if more people tried to live by those teachings.
I am offended by the hypocrisy I see in the "christian right" and do not understand how they reconcile their beliefs with their behavior. That is all I am saying.
Thank you for the civil discussion and have a nice day.
I totally agree with you, it would be a better place if we lived by his teachings. You have a wonderful day as well.
miker: If you've looked at the tax returns of the past 5 presidents and their opponents you will notice that the Republican candidates have donated far more to charity that the Democratic candidates. Maybe you aren't old enough to recall the Clinton embarrassment where he listed his used underwear at $4.00 each on his return. Of course, repubs don't donate to government. They don't have any faith that government would spend their money better than they would and they believe that they are already taxed enough.
Good. Glad to see him getting smacked down on his immigration stance.
Hopefully he'll re-asses and get it right.
And that folks is why we play the primary game.
Forget immigration. The candidate who promises to replace Bernanke with this guy has my vote.
http://www.dallasfed.org/news/speeches/fisher/2011/fs110927.cfm
His was the vote that slowed QEIi down- Bernanke wanted to unleash the whole shebang all at once.
Fisher understood why that would have been a disaster.
He's the best Fed governor we've got- while Bernanke is the worst I've ever seen.
So, how about we leave off the nonsense, (in state tuition is a Texas issue, not a national one), and get down to brass tacks?
Politicians never, ever, get down to brass tacks.
God I cannot wait to get rid of Geitner.
Although what the German counterpart said about him and Obama yesterday was pretty funny. Rare to see someone call someone else stupid so many times.
Funny stuff. Geitner lecturing someone else on debt and finances.
So Perry was for in-state tuition before he was against it? Or is he just against saying anyone that disagrees with him is heartless? And he accuses Romney of flip-flopping.
Ron Paul 2012
At least he's consistent and not owned by the corporations. All the other candidates can be bought.
Nancy: but, but, but, but, isn't Rick Perry supposed to be the savior of the Republican party ?
I knew the party was in trouble when they nominated Sarah Palin as VP candidate.
Maybe they will nominate one of these real idiots and then the Tea Party faction will lose, badly, and the real Republican party will purge them from its ranks, finally.
well, the schauble has every right to call geithner and obama out.
Obama and Geithner promised to halve our current deficit by 2013. And that's not a talking point, that was the byproduct of the 2010 G-20 summit in Toronto.
wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_G-20_Toronto_summit (amongst dozens of other sources)
They knew it was a lie at the time, however, and obama got smacked down by foreign leaders on his comments on monetary policy.
The 'primary game' has never been so nauseous.
It's more like a drinking game.
That's true, he is consistent. The problem is that he's consistently wrong on too many issues. Sometimes changing one's mind is a good thing when it stems from realizing you were in error previously.
teknishan: You do know it is only 2011 right?
Totally.
You do realize the budget we passed earlier this year actually INCREASES our deficit in 2013, from it's current levels, right? :D They were absolutely right to call Obama out, he's a fiscal fool.
Just curious are you an American? You are aware that it is Congress not the President that approves the budget. You do realize another budget will be passed in 2012 and that the Super committee has to cut 1.3 trillion dollars off the spending just approved.
Yeah. Cuz the president doesn't have veto authority or anything.
And he's shown a remarkable track record of trying to fulfill his promises on fiscal reform, too, right?
When will those calling themselves GOP learn that REAL GOPers don't approve of giving special treatment to law breakers? We hold the law in high regard and expect everyone to follow it.
On this topic Perry is exactly like Bush. What happened to this topic when Bush talked about "Amnesty" huh? It didn't go over well, no, not at all.
"Mommy! I didn't MEAN for somone to poop my pants. Honest!! Please don't make me stand in the corner again."
"And that folks is why we play the primary game."
Ah, yes- them there Repubs do loves them-there 'do-overs'.
when bam bam finally admits he is a socialist, then the libs can start having fault with anyone else.
[Ah, yes- them there Repubs do loves them-there 'do-overs'.]
...thar...
...them THAR do-overs...
Ahh, yes, mitch j, that'll do it. Do you like having a fire department or even a volunteer fire department, a police department? Do you like paved highways? How about dams? Did you go to public school? Do you like having a military? Do you go to church? Socialism, the good kind of socialsim. We're all socialists, mitch j, even those of you who claim only liberals are. There are no pure democracies in the world, none, zero, nada, zip; every country is a mix of private and public, of democratic and socialistic policies.
lol Jody, you forgot to mention the chilwren
even though it is in its beginning stages, mass murder always is the end result of socialism. those who fail to recognize it have no excuse when it fully takes hold. either way, many end up joining the millions in the camps.
...them THAR do-overs...
Wal, hay-ell.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Wednesday that he erred in last week's presidential debate, when he said that opponents of in-state college tuition for the children of illegal immigrants were heartless.
Perry erred by entering the Debate Race period. He needs to MAN UP and GET OUT while he has some semblance of dignity left.
[even though it is in its beginning stages, mass murder always is the end result of socialism. those who fail to recognize it have no excuse when it fully takes hold. either way, many end up joining the millions in the camps]
mitchell, that's because you're the "enemy"..."enemies" belong in camps...and the boxcars with shackles are on their way, mitchell...and "they" have a shackle with mitch j engraved on it.
BTW, how's that microchip doing?
drive-by-observer, At least he didn't blame someone else for saying it. He talks without a teleprompter so he knows what he said. Obama just says one thing today and another tomorrow because he can't remember what the teleprompter said last time.
And you are less than the brightest bulb in the box.
In the end the Revrund Perry will end up an unemployed ex-gubner. Nothing like national scrutiny under the spotlight to expose losers.
Maybe he can go back to being a televangelist selling gawd approved snake oil, or go back to the ranch and pick cotton.
Texans can't be so stupid to reelect him again. If so, gawd help them all.
shakingmyhead: The teleprompter doesn't "say" anything. Just like your post doesn't say anything.
It is a liberal lie that hard working citizens of ANY background support illegal immigration.
Unlike Obama at least Perry admits when he is wrong supporting and subdizing illegal activities.
Oh Obama has some great things to say at his town hall today.
It appears that some in the Latino community are not super pleased by his efforts.
So, did he tell them to stop whining and complaining, take off their slippers, put on their shoes, and get to work? Or is that just for the African American community?
I read an article on Plouffe today- did you know he was a political genius? Seems he's the idea man behind Obama's Zelig run last ime out.
One problem- he's a one trick pony. So, last year, when he and A ita Dunn got loaned out to the Labour Party across the pond, they used that same strategy.
Guess what? It's hard to blur the lines of what you stand for when you have a pretty significant record staring people in the face.
So, having failed at that, it seems he's behind the rougher, tougher Obama- it's campaign strategy 2.0.
Remember how well haranguing voters worked last November? Telling them they were too stupid to understand how all Obama's policies were actually successful and wonderful really motivated people to get out there and support democrats, right? Well, since it worked so well then, Obama is doing it again- only, now, he's taking the gloves off.
Looks to me like not only the motherinlaw, but the wife will be voting for ABO.
Obama has deported more illegal immigants that the Bush adminstration. Which side again is working harder on the issue?
Obama told them to "Keep jumping the fence". He needs their votes.
Obama does tailor his message to his audience.
Got your sheet back from the cleaners... eh Smiffy?
You gonna go after the Asians now - you've covered your contempt for the Blacks & Hispanics...
How about the handicapped that's always a crowd pleaser with your kind!
Just ask your BFF - the nut job from NJ - her favorite target with the disabled is autism...
Pathetic!
Well, see, according to Obama, that's just not true. Somebody is twisting the facts to make him look bad, he says.
See, according to him, more people are stopped at the border, and sent back. Then they get counted as being deported. At least, that's what he said today, at his town hall.
Of course, it was a Latino audience, so that might account for it.
I wonder if anybody asked him about the use of tax dollars to send guns and drugs back and forth over the border? Operation Fast and Furious, it was called. Operation Gun Walker is what the ATF officers who were charged with it called it.
Hidden from public view is what I call it.
Madison, I an a citizen of Upstate NY, have worked hard all of my life, and I support LEGAL immigration, starting with a pathway for CHILDREN who are he through no infraction of their own. Children are children you heartless buffoon!
The "heartless" comment is the only thing I can see that Rick Ponzi has ever gotten right!
WElll....whatta ya know?
Smiff and No Jo STILL posting against a guy that's 'toast'.
Who y'all trying to convince, agian? I missed it last time I asked.....
So Drive By are you suggesting that we ignore Obama?
That he is toast is very clear. But the fact he is still is the guy in charge, even if he does tend to lead from behind.
So of course we will continue to discuss him.
Just the way it works my man, at least for the next few months, or till he quits.
Where Madison? He didn't admit anything other than he thought he over did it when he called people who disagree with him heartless. Google "reading comprehension" and do the worksheets. You'll do better next time I'm sure.
Reality never intrudes on your little world, does it, JoAnnaSmith1. First off, the "fence jumpers" aren't eligible to vote, they lay low and don't want to attract legal attention, so they're not even going to try to register to vote. Secondly, Obama has increased the number of border patrol agents, the exact opposite of "keep jumping the fence". Third, the Obama administration has stepped up deportations, and have even raided businesses that were hiring illegals. The result is far more deportations under Obama than ever happened during the Bush Jr. administration. Why would any politician try to exclude and expel those voting for him? They wouldn't. So your logic totally fails.
Now Republicans are definitely trying their worst to block voters that tend to vote Democrat - despicable and reprehensible, yes, but perfectly understandable, given that voter tampering is their best hope of winning total power.
akgirl, nice try, but you should realize that facts have no relevance in an Obama-bashing rant.
"So of course we will continue to discuss him."
Yeah, I see what you mean. Especially considering there's not much to talk about with the gaggle of 'challengers' that are on the circuit these days.
Can't blame you, I guess.
He was for it a couple of days ago. But the people are like come on Rick you need to be a racist prick and change your tune so he did, oh just so genuine that Rick Perry. not
While Perry backtracks what he said, the program is still in effect in Texas. Probably the only decent thing he has done, of course the tea party would hate it.
For a group that claims to be christians, they sure don't care for the people. I got mine f the rest of you is about as caring as the tea party gets.
A "do over?"
Say - what was it that Senator Obama said about raising the debt ceiling?
A do over? Cause that sure ain't what President Obama said.
Of course there was the whole Recovery Summer [June 2009]. So now that he says we need to be patient is that a do over Drive By?
Golly seems good old Obama has taken to a couple of do overs of his own, eh Drive By?
Or perhaps that's just the way the idiots play politics?
Spanky, you mentioned it the other day and I am still amazed that the Libs on this site don't realize how often they are posting something that applies to the left as much or more so than to the right.
Blinded by love and burning coals, I suppose.
Drive By seems to be the King at it though.
It's why I love me some drive by.
and some amy and jody and especially bev.
rednecks like you need to leave this country if your so angry.
Yep, another dumb good ole boy from Texas wants to be President. How wonderful. As an American we can't send our kids to college or get loans, but hey, we can give all we got to illegals. Next thing you know it will be great if we grant an illegal to run for Presiden because if we don't we "have no heart"
I'd take a dummy over the con-man we have now. At least with a dummy, they would need to speak slower, and anything that slows down the disaster that is DC is a win.
Well, Paul F, all of the GOPTP candidates meet your "dummy" requirement--take your pick.
I'm sticking with the smart guy that's already in the White House. Obama/Biden 2012!
Perry will say anything to get elected. C's and D's in pig grading at Texas A&M. Campaign manager for Al Gore in Texas. On the public payroll for the last 25 years. He's a classic cluster f---.
"On the public payroll for the last 25 years." In my opinion, this is the biggest problem with our government. Citizens who want to serve the public, our country, it's people, should be severely limited in how many years they are allowed to serve. Being a public servant should be about wanting to serve the people and not drawing a paycheck. It is time for these double standards and flip-flopping to end. I say term limits for every level and branch of government from school boards up. Maybe something like 8 years for President, 6 for representatives, 6 (at very most) for the senate, 6 for supreme court justices (only 2 max to be appointed by any one president), 8 for state governors, 6 for state reps, 6 (again at the very most) for state senators...etc... AND no, you can't be a representative for 6 years then go to the senate for 6, then on to president for another 8, I'm talking about maybe 3 terms at most at the highest levels of government. But there again i'm no political science major, it just makes sense to me...
Don't know if you are Republican or Democrat but I have to say as a Democrat I could not agree more.
I was trying to see if there is anyway possible to pass a ballot initiative proposing term limits, since it certainly would never be proposed by the House or Senate.
It needs to become more about serving the country not the party. As conservatives and liberals, as farmers, insurance salesmen, fireman, actors, waiters, or dishwashers we all have different views but the government should be working to the benefit of the majority while protecting the minorities against abuse
I'm nither Democrat nor Republican, but I agree with the Democratic ways and means a little more than their friends on the right. I just don't believe in the political party system at all. We have a very large, wealthy, somewhat educated nation. I don't think that 2 or 3 choices for our politicians is a good idea. We need inbetween choices, for instance, a fiscally conservative, anti war, pro education candidate who could appeal to both sides of the fence and get some real work done. We need to vote for the person we are electing, not what party is backing them. The system as it stands is simply not working for anyone anymore, for the right and left jockying for position and not getting any real work done.
The poor dope got caught telling the truth.
Still standing by for the "small government" crowd to develop a plan to remove 14,000,000 people from the United States.
Simple, we take the existing big government that we have, and tell them to do their damn jobs. Arrest and deport. If Obama can afford 2 rockstar buses for a 3 day bus tour to the tune of $1.1 million each, I think we can muster up a few extra coaches to move these folks back across the border.
Hell, I'd vote to hire a bunch of those out of work to drive. That would be money well spent.
Alternatively, let's offer paid amnesty - prove you are employed, pay an additional 10% income tax for 10 years, along the way you become a citizen with no vote, and when you complete your 10 years, you are a full citizen. Keeps them here, saves money, and makes money. Those without a job, well they get a free bus ride home.
Paul F: would that be on one of those new $1.1 million Presidential buses ?
I actually feel for poor Perry - having to apologize for telling the truth!
But then, this isn't the first time a Republican has had to apologize for telling the truth, there were more than a few Republicans that were forced to grovel and apologize for daring to disagree with the prevarications of The Almighty Limbaugh.
About the busses...before we had the busses, we would rent a coach from some rental company, spend the money on getting it renovated and upgraded (bulletproof everything and armored, engine upgrades etc...) and then return it. We would do this about every 4 years. NOW, we don't have to, and he even bought one for his republican counterpart. How very nice of him, right? So would everyone stop complaining about the busses? He actually is saving us a few million every decade by just buying them, as long as they use them for about 10 years, like the limos...so stop complaining please...
*sniff, sniff*
Smells like flip-flop!
He'd have earned more respect from me by standing by his statement at the debate on "heartless"!
Perry has always been arrogant. I hardly think he has actually changed. He is just going to be more vague and non-commital. He has to please the donors, who have opposite priorities from the voters.
Arrogant? There is a new poster of Obama with that exact term across the bottom.
"We won", "sit in the back", "you made the mess, we're gonna clean it up", "stop complainin', take off your slippers (he actually said that!) and put on your marching shoes".
This con-man is the king of arrogance. It is part of his deeply narcissistic nature.
Paul F. I'd suggest you listen to the entire speech instead of the cherry picked portions taken totally out of context and played on FOX or other right-wing media outlets. President Obama received thunderous applause and cheers for his speech.
It truly was an incredible speech, but with all your hate Paul, you couldn't see it.
I don't understand it, President Obama is judged on how he cuts his fingernails. Bush nearly destroyed our country and no republican says a word. Romney picks the same economic advisers that advised bush that tax cuts during war time would be alright. No republican says a word.
Republican claim they are so worried about the debt, just not enough to raise taxes on the richest. The tea party claims they want the people and not corporations running America and then fight for tax cuts and subsidies for the richest corporations.
Maybe you should check on what your party is doing for a change.
During JFK's time the rich were taxes at 90% and no one whined and complained about class warfare or socialism. Now the rich don't think they should pay the same percentage as the working people. Rich republican law makers don't think the rich should pay fair taxes either.
Come on republicans raise the taxes on the richest and try and pretend you have a drop of patriotism left in your veins.
To Americans First: Well said.
Sorry, Rick, but I guess you can't use that old backpedaling flip flop argument against Mitt anymore. Didn't anyone ever tell you that the Texas Aggie jokes are ABOUT Texas Aggies? There's a reason for it...just go over and look in the mirror.
It's this kind of stuff that turns off voters regardless of party. Rick Perry is back tracking his position and comment because it doesn't suit the rest of the party. His comment was truthful and his belief; he was right. It is "heartless" to punish the children for the sins their fathers. Perry should not back down, he should stand by his words and instead make the other candidates prove they are not heartless.
The respublican base is going through front-runners faster than Tiger Woods ran through Vegas sluts.
hey, that was part of harry's saved or created stimulus plan money
If Rick Perry "had a heart" he'd of thought twice about gutting the education system in Texas in the last legislative session. I live here...I know. These people live oxymoronic lives in which they profess caring and at the same time inflict pain and misery on others. It's really sickening and the reason I can never vote republican. It seems like it's been this way since Ronald Reagan and it's become alot worse since the advent of talk radio.
You nailed the cause and the beginnings, raymond banner.
Only today's republicans are operating on the "myth of Reagan" despite his anti-government, anti-tax rhetoric.
I watched Reagan save California money while governor. First he closed the fire camps stationed all over California. We had one a few miles outside our town and they were where they sent the juvenile delinquents and they cut fire break trails and cleaned up fire hazards and worked as back up on actual fires. We rarely had big fires get out of control those days. The year after he closed the camps California nearly burned down. Kinda like Perry cutting all the fire departments budgets and now Texas is burning down.
Then out the kindest of Reagan's heart he decided the Vietnam vets didn't need the government supplemented care homes where many veterans lived. From one day to the next homeless veterans were everywhere in San Francisco. Before then you never noticed a lot of homelessness.
I was stunned when they elected him President.
My memory doesn't quite match the republican myth. I always think of Reagan as heartless. It only seems fitting for the republican tea party to hold him in such high regards.
That is part of the legacy. more of it was the beginning of the trampling on the middle class when he alone began his union busting of the air traffic controllers.
It's OK Rick, we alrady know that GOP Teabaggers have no heart.
Hey Mike it's the brain damaged liberals that have no heart. What kind of person murders over a million innocent children every year and makes it a policy statement- LIBERALS.
Oh my gosh that's horrible, could you post the names of those children please???
a couple of cells isn't a child! but after they are born and ARE actually people that think and feel, the Reps don't want them to have adequate health care or education! that is heartless! and extremely hypocritical!
Boy, jjdcc, isn't that the truth?
jjdcc, well said!
"Screw 'em, let 'em starve" won't fit on one of those placards the Westboro Baptists parade around with, see?
TPGOP believe in the "sanctity of life" but only for the unborn. Once born--too bad on your own--we don't care for them, feed/clothe them, provide healthcare, education, etc. Let them die if they don't have health insurance (and by the way, we will make it too expensive for them to get health insurance, food and education)! They believe so much in the sanctity of life that they cheer Perry for having the greatest number of executions and having no worries that someone just might have been innocent. They believe in killing other people's children in trumped up wasteful wars. They want to entirely remove all programs that assist those in need--and call themselves "christians"! Yes--these folks certainly believe in the sanctity of life...NOT.

typical MSDNC, no story on NC Gov Perdue suggesting we suspend elections
Care to provide the details of this statement or at least the source.
sorry Jody, you may want to try and get your news from sources other than the White House propaganda outlets.
but, MSDNC may be forced to cover it eventually. heck, it only took them a month to report anything on fast and furious. hang in there.
[Care to provide the details of this statement or at least the source.]
Rense.com doesn't have to provide a source...his readers never ask where the bull@!$%# comes from.
Besides, mitchell's tin foil hat is on crooked today...and the skin over his microchip is starting to itch.
telling how we have a sitting Gov suggesting we suspend elections, and the liberals all fall in line.
telling, but not shocking.
In other words, mitch j, you can't quote the source because there is no source. FYI, I do get my news from many sources--that's why I asked because I have not read or heard anything about it.
As for falling in line, can't do that if I don't know anything about it.
Jody, I apologize. as a conservative in a blog sea of libs, i ignorantly assumed.
sorry.
[as a conservative in a blog sea of libs]
Yes, mitchell...you are. Your seat over at The Blaze and Fox Nation is getting cold.

Here is the link for Gov. Perdue
Here is the full context of what Governor Perdue said:
Now, I'll leave it to each of you to determine how serious the Governor was in her statement but ask yourself this...isn't there a chance is that she's right and we have more people in both parties in Washington who are more interested in keeping their jobs than getting one for you?
I mean, Senator McConnell tells us that his top priority is making President Obama a one-term president. Really?
...and how many members of the House have already started mailing it in because they are all up for re-election in a year?
By the way, after her remarks to the Rotary Club, a spokesperson for Governor Perdue offered the following:
projects.newsobserver.com/under_the_dome/perdue_suggests_suspending_congressional_elections_for_two_years_was_she_serious
I get Perdue's point. Politicians more concerned about getting reelected than doing their jobs. Nothing new here. No doubt she was being a bit flip on the subject, but it is a real problem. Is it time to impose term limits? Maybe so.
Governor Perdue wants the elections suspended because she's going to lose in a landslide. It's odd, is it not, that anytime some whack job liberal says what they are thinking, the rest of the whack jobs rush to their defense?
Good lord, if she were republican. . .
Good lord, if she were a republican you would be all for it.
Like you think that suspending elections is going to happen. As a liberal it is not something I would want to see. Our only hope is to vote the tea people out. Oh yeah lets suspend voting and leave our government in tea party obstruction lock down. The tea party has the rich to protect and they ain't backing down, because the rich are more important than America.
They like to pretend to be patriots. The first patriots in history to sign a pledge to assist Norquist who vowed goal is to kill America.
It is just something else for you to hyperventilate about.
I guess with select soundbites and the talking heads dissecting her every meaning it has almost happened and we had better get very very afraid of what those liberals are going to do next.
Faux channeling rush is like a soap opera you can always tell because the story line is so over the top.
Jeez, if Perry keeps retracting what he's said he may be denying that he ever wrote that book “Fed Up!,”next.
Oh, he's already said that he didn't mean it, and those were proposals not to be taken seriously...
has that great liberal spokesman, Bill Maher suggest Perry be violently raped yet?
mitch j, have you stopped beating your wife?
(Hey, it's the same sort of nonsensical insulting question...)
If they live in the state of Texas, it is not a give away to allow in-state tuition rates. Every state has those rates to encourage young people to remain in the state where their parents reside. Perry is right, it is better to educate them and allow them to become contributors to society instead of living in the shaddows but apparently Perry doesn't have the "courage of his convictions".
Do the same rates apply to children of legal residents? Most college students are up to their ears in debt paying for tuition. Where does Perry stand on that.
Lady Cat, the answer to your question is "yes".
See, Texas sets their in state tuition rates. Those are the rates paid by residents of the state of Texas. Texas decided to allow children who grew up in the state, attending the same grammar/middle/high schools as children born and living in Texas to pay the same rates.
Thirteen states offer children of illegal immigrants in state tuition.
Not my state. In my state, despite paying the property and state income taxes everyone else does, children who have the misfortune to be born to parents who brought them here illegally have to pay a higher tuition than their high school classmates.
Now, you may agree that it is fair- I happen to disagree.
So does Perry.
Careful No Jo I am a liberal and I agree with you completely. You are starting to think like a liberal. Being kind to your fellow man grows on you.
Hate to use a Rushism but "ditto"
Can somebody please tell Rick Perry that the election is ahead of us... and that if he keeps backpedaling he'll never get there...
Sigh. There are absolutely NO viable candidates for the next election. Not a single one.
No One 2012.
I think a "None Of The Above" check-box on the ballot would be a real awakening for all politicians.
If NOTA wins, then you start off with all new candidates. Of course it may take a few years to get someone elected, but the winner would more closely reflect the REAL wishes of the people.
You know if Christie even mentions he's getting into the race... he will be the #1 front runner 2 minutes after he announces it. Let's count 'em. As Stewart would say... do you think the problem may not rest with the line-up of the Republican party... but with the TP and Republican voters?
These clowns and their ever changing postions would be funny... if it wasn't my countries future at stake.
Perry needed the latino vote as governor of TX., hence the pro-tuition stance, now he needs to court the tea-baggers, my guess is he will become vehemently pro-trailer park.
Good point, I forgot about his need for the Latino vote.
Please don't bad mouth these people like that...just because people live in trailer parks and maybe didn't graduate high-school, doesn't automatically make them Republicans.
Based upon the argument that we should educate illegals, because they were brought into this country "through no fault of their own"....Excuse me, but the last time I checked, the vast majority of students entering college are legally of age, 18 years old, old enough to know that their status is illegal, old enough to make the status legal and go through proper channels, old enoug to register for selective service (were they American males)....but we are supposed to reward them for staying on illegally as adults who do know their status is not legitimate. I don't get it at all. Especially as native born, American children, are not getting the same financial benefits.
And the best starting point for their "pathway to citizenship" is an education. Or maybe you would rather wait until they are totally impovershed. Besides, there is no such thing as an illegitimate human being. Just another heartless adjective there.
Fact is, if they were born here, they are legal American citizens. If you don't like that (obsolete) law, then try to have it changed. (it was originally written to protect freed slaves)
Sue, like most people posting here you don't seem to understand the program here in Texas. It covers people who are now college age but who were brought here illegally as children. And no, they're not getting a benefit that native Texans don't get. They're not getting a free education. They're just paying in state tuition like anyone else who grew up here. For example, I have a friend who was brought across illegally by his parents when he was 1. He didn't know he was here illegally until his senior year in high school when he started applying to colleges. He graduated 4th in his high school class and worked his way through University of Houston paying in state tuition. It's not his fault he was brought here illegally and he hasn't even been to Mexico since his parents brought him here.
That's who the program is for, not 18 year olds who sneak across to go to college. Now if you still think the program is wrong, this is America and you're certainly entitled to your opinion. At least now it'll be a more informed opinion.
Sane Control, this program has nothing to do with anchor babies either. It only applies to those who grew up here illegally.
Sue your arguement is moot since anyone born in the USA is a natural born Citizen. Don't you remember a few months ago the RTP wanting an ammendment to the constitution to reverse that position for children of illegal aliens.(not the Sigourney Weaver kind)
It seems as though, if you're rick perry, even when you say something dumb you still get major media coverage for days and days and days. The fact that candidates like Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich get ignored even further because they DONT say anything stupid or factually untrue is mind-boggling to me. What has happened to our country???? Why don't people see that our elections have become a complete joke. The media anointed obama, and they've tried to do the same for perry (and now apparently christie)...just listen to what the candidates say and stop listening to what the media thinks of these guys...he/she is going to be YOUR president thats why WE VOTE and not the pundits and bloggers...what makes you think they're so much smarter than you anyways?????
Its really quite simple. Perry thinks that its acceptable to give illegal immigrants in-state tuition, I don't think he could've been any more clear...so instead of continuously talking about it...just add it to your pro's and con's on the issues that are important to you. If you have more pro's for perry than the other candidates, VOTE FOR HIM...if you don't...vote for whoever you do. this idea that you have to focus in on one area is just absurd and its why we are able to be manipulated by the mainstream media. lets just use our heads guys....
logic has no place on the MSDNC blog site
Who in the heck needs a Prez that believes in science or education?
We need to remove all outside monies, and switch to purely public funding where every candidate is allowed equal time. No PACs. No Super PACS. No lobbyists. Kill Citizens United, and remove the judges that voted it in.
