First his health is in question. Second, he would seem Palin-like, quitting mid-term. But if they throw enough money at him and promise him all types of goodies, he will run. It will be a mistake, but the Republicans are desperate.
I really don't care who runs as long as we can replace Obama. Put another Democrat in office. Put anyone... anything. Obama has been a total failure at POTUS. He lied during his campaigning and has done nothing but make our country worse than it was when he came into office. I bought into his lies and really thought he would "CHANGE" things. I was duped!
Remember Obama had a super-majority when he came into office. He and the Democrats could have passed ANY law. They could have changed anything and everything. They didn't need a single republican vote! Obama could have worked on the economy and really turned things around financially. Instead Pelosi, Reid and Obama threw together the slimiest, ugliest healthcare bill that they couldn't get their own party to vote for. Single-payer would have been much better but yet he and the democrats bow to the lobbyist and give the insurance companies what they want - FULL NATIONAL ENROLLMENT.
I am not a Obama hater. I gave him the benefit of doubt. I hoped he would be different but he lied and sold out like all the others. What's worse is that he has us $5Trillion further in debt with NOTHING to show for it. Now he wants to "get serious on debt" ???
Give us Hilary, Gore, Bill, GW Bush, Cain, Christie... ANYONE. We cannot afford this experiment any longer.
Oh please run, Governor. It will mean more laughs for me, reading even more of the the deeply profound, sophisticated comments from the intellectual lefties on this site who are so creative in slinging inane crap at all people and things conservative. And what really amuses me, is their actual confidence that Obama will be reelected. I mean, the blacks are abandoning him in droves, and many party leaders are trying to get Hilary to run against him.....it's that bad. Christie, Cain, Perry, Romney..it doesn't matter; the inept one is toast in 2012.
New Jersey imposes an exit tax on residents who move out of the state. I thought I lived in a FREE Country? I am taxed to move within the confines of my own country? Maybe Christy can instead tax the Ilegal Aliens and "wanna-be" citizens instead!!! Wonder if he'll be taxed if he moves into the White House? I Doubt it!!! We'll be flippiing the bill for the Moving Vans and Helicopters to get him there!!!
Thank goodness Air Force One is already a jumbo jet modification for the Governor would add another 10,000,000.00 to the national debt! On the bright side he could use the helicopter anytime he wants.
Christy would have to walk for president.the only thing he runs for is the breakfast, lunch and dinner table. And with the country in dept we can not afford to feed him four 4 years. Also will they allow him to have a box off donuts and 64 oz pepsi on his podium while he debates.
Hey Feisty air head - I notice you don't have much to say about all the Obama scandals??? You mainly comment on the things that make you libs happy and show your ignorance and prodigious.
Come on people, fat jokes are a form of bigotry (I've been guilty myself, but vow not to do it going forward).
With that said, it would be difficult if not impossible for anyone to jump in now, and that goes for Sarah Palin, who we knew was never going to run based on her FAUX Noise status alone. The only possibility for a late entry would be a candidate running as Independent who already has a campaign organized, maybe Bachmann.
Stop speculation for fund raising, book sales, reality show promotion--and media ratings. Conservatives, the GOP/TP field is what it is. Stop the baseless bashing of the president. Pick your right-wing poison and focus on that.
Independent Republic of Texas: Duh! What do you think Feisty is going to comment on, the great Bush years? She's a liberal. Let her be liberal. Raise your game and respectfully debate her on the issues, knowing that you are both Americans and both deserve respect.
Chris Christie knows he's not running...because his backers can't guarantee that his past won't catch up to him during the campaign. Money can but a lot, but you can't buy off everybody.
The man is a thug who resorts to denigration and intimidation when he can't interact on an intellectual level...but that does sound like the GOP/Tea Party types...so maybe Christie is a good fir, after all?
Wow, I was just reading through the votes. Many of the "yes" votes are just making jokes. Christie is a thug, but he is smarter than the Tea Party thugs--he knows better than to jump from the frying pan into the fire.
Can't you just see this man telling the head of another country that US policy "...is none of your business" or being otherwise rude and crass to foreign dignitaries? Is this what we want representing our country? It staggers the immagination!
"We have met the enemy and he is us!" Pogo by Walt Kelly
Chris Jansing just interviewed Mayor Cory Booker D. Newark. What did all of the people who have ridiculed the Gov on First Read this morning think of the interview?
I guess I will have to reply to myself. I was hoping that people saw the interview. I think Cory Booker is doing a great job as Newark's mayor. He talked about having different views than the Gov. Chrisitie but how they worked together for the good. How they respected each other. Isn't this a good example of how Goverment should work?
That is interesting... the general election is still 13 months away, yet a significant percentage of this poll's voters believe that it is too late for a newcomer to enter the race.
If Palin gets in, I figure she'll actually announce within a month of the first primary. Which makes sense, as the candidates all seem to do well just before and after they announce, then a week later they start to go downhill.
SOTB- Maybe it's isn't too late, but it seems like there would have to be some pretty last-minute organizing, fundraising, etc.
BUT- my problem with people getting in late like this is- they have had a chance to watch from the safety of the sidelines, while the other candidates all went in front of the people in these 'debates', and showed their hands. They showed their hands, and took flak and ridicule for some of their positions, so the late comers can avoid the the pitfalls or tailor their positons without having took the risks.
Just seems shallow and unfair, somehow- that's all.
Nobody's looking at Huntsman, but he's the moderate and most reasonable sounding candidate. I would vote for him, and I usually vote Democratic. But notice, nobody's listening to him.
Yes, he should run. We need more jokes that can be told with the entire GOP field. Also a plus for Florida is that when the next Blizzard hits he can preside over the country at Cinderella's castle in Orlando. We'll make a killing on the food bill that he and his entourage will bring us.
You tea people GOP republicans take the cake. Protect them before their borne, but once borne let them die from lack of health insurance, or execute them. That's real compassion ins't it JAS1.
You liberals take the cake. Claim that just because you don't abort a baby it will end up dying anyway. There are countless numbers of childless couples who would love to adopt them and give them a home with love and care, but you want to ignore that fact. And you are against executing someone that deserves punishment for CHOOSING to do a heinous crime. I don't recall ever hearing of an INNOCENT baby incapable of making choices committing a crime. But let's make sure the mother has a choice to kill it. Talk about twisted.
This discussion is about Christie, not abortion. Christie's obesity is gross, but he doesn't look like an abortion. Carrying the kind of weight that he is carrying might be criminal, but he doesn't deserve the death penalty. Try to stay on topic. Every subject mentioned doesn't need to revert to abortion and the death penalty.
He wouldn't carry Joisey and the confederate states might have some trouble voting for an I-talian. That said he could reprise the motto of Reagan and Gekko changing it slightly from "greed is good" to "Kentucky Fried is good."
And the obesity cohort is growing by the ton in the "home of the Frito and land of the crave" though many won't be able to get out of their homes to vote without the help of the fire department which may have been disbanded by the local tea party zombies in an effort to help the rich get richer.....the wheels of democracy grind slowly but the cupcakes made from the flour go down in a flash!
but it's ok to call the president "THE OTHER" . OR THAT HE'S A SCARY BLACK MAN. and all the other mean sprited things they say. you don't like it when someone calls your people something but it's ok for you. you are a hippocrit. period. and so is the GOPTP.
Tell you what- I don't care if he runs or not. BUT- if he does, I'm sure there are enough ad dollars in the ol' DNC budget to repeatedly play that clip of him saying he's not ready for that job.
Maybe Gov. Christie knows better than anyone else why he shouldn't/couldn't run at this time....
Maybe the GOP should look beyond governors. One problem Gov. Christie would have is the same one Gov. Pawlenty had and the same one bedeviling Gov. Huntsman. If you've only really lived in one state (Gov. Christie did go to college in Delaware, next door to NJ), you don't know how different states and their cultures can be. What plays well in MN doesn't necessarily work elsewhere, and what works in NJ doesn't necessarily work elsewhere. If you believe Wikipedia, NJ is the third most wealthy state, and the most densely populated. So what works there might not work for Kansas, Montana, Wisconsin or Maine, etc.
I simply don't understand why Republicans go into orgasmic ecstasy whenever Chris Christie's name is mentioned as a possible Presidential candidate. To me, he is ill-mannered, crude, wrong on every single issue, and a morbidly obese, undisciplined slob. But I suppose that, compared to the other Republican candidates, he looks pretty good to them.
Christie looks like a potential heart attack just waiting to happen. He would have to have a healthy VP lined up. McCain lost votes based on the fact that he is as old as dirt and we didn't want Failin Palin in charge if he died.
I think he'd be great. Articulate, confrontational, blunt and funny. He's the last one Democrats want to see debating Obama. He'll be a big fat winner that will have no problem telling liberals how it's going to be and that will drive them crazy.
So you feel that Cristie's demeanor, speech and approach is the image that should represent America to the world?
Did you vote for George W. Bush too? How'd that work out for you and America?
IMHO, being President of the United States is a far cry different from being Governor of a single state, but hey in the Republican world of facts I guess the two are equivalent. After all we've had good Presidents who were Governors first, and we've had so not-so-good ones too. Based upon Cristie's track record so far I thing he would fall into the latter category versus the former.
If Cory Booker thinks Christie is an honest, straight talker,"get the job done" Governor, that should make the Dems shake in their boots. They know Christie would blow Obama out of the water in the next election. Christie has to want this for himself and his family, though. It is the hardest job in the world. Even Obama , the narcissist-in -chief, is showing signs of "what did I get myself into" syndrome.
Did you see Christie during Hurricane Irene? How about the NJ news show where he praised his Democratic predecessor for implementing auto insurance reform? How about the fact he has a Democratic Schools head and has to work with a Democratic majority in the NJ house and Senate?
He would actually show the current President how to pass bi-partisan legislation.
The guy is a heart attack waiting to happen. You don't vote for someone with that little self-control for president. Maybe he should run for president of Walmart nation.
It's not a question of self-control, but rather a question of genetic predisposition, and something I'm sure he has struggled with all his life. But his health might be a concern -- he has trouble with asthma, for one thing.
JFK was in pain ( and taking meds) every single day of his Presidency. That did not prevent him from doing his job. Christie is a very hard working man and his weight has not prevented him thus far from doing the great work in NJ that he has done.
And if they can only lower the taxes on the rich SOB's that sent our American jobs to Communist China, all the better! Go Tea party! Get rid of all our jobs.
Another candidate at this point in time really won't make much difference since some Repblican candiates are just "posers" and they already know that they are not in this race for the long haul.....so let Christie run if he wants too....but he better shed at least 50 lbs asap if he wants to surivive the contest.
Geez, is one more clown that SIZE going to be able to squish into the Republican Circus Car?
Will Gov. Krispy Creme use Marine One for his 'inauguration' parade?
After all, he couldn't waddle across a baseball field... lol
Republicans are not confident in the field that they have. My guess is that Christie will be convinced to run.
Now whether or not he'll be successful is another thing.
First his health is in question. Second, he would seem Palin-like, quitting mid-term. But if they throw enough money at him and promise him all types of goodies, he will run. It will be a mistake, but the Republicans are desperate.

At least only Christie's health is in question, not his competence like the current incumbent.
I believe they already did to accommodate Michelle's Butt.
Just thought I would join in on the First Read lets hate Fat people day!

And, by the way, "prodigious" is an adjective and out of context in your sentence. Strunk & White, baby, Strunk & White!
Wow, dems, if he were another shade...you would call his obesity racism. Leave him alone, his belly isn't his brains.
Chris Christie knows he's not running...because his backers can't guarantee that his past won't catch up to him during the campaign. Money can but a lot, but you can't buy off everybody.
Besides, do we want THIS as president?

Whose left?

Eric:
ANYONE has a chance against the inept Obama. Read all the polls, dude; Obama is behind the GENERIC GOP candidate!
Nobody's looking at Huntsman, but he's the moderate and most reasonable sounding candidate. I would vote for him, and I usually vote Democratic. But notice, nobody's listening to him.

The compassion of the Left is on it's usual display. You Leftists represent your side well.
Have you considered early retirement honey?
You certainly are stumbling around old gal! ;o)
It's quite painful to watch actually, your dissent into obscurity..
Who was the fat guy on Dune that hovered around?
joanna, we're not the party that said "let them die" to people with no insurance. hard to be less compassionate than that.
Yeah, Hatr, like killing unborn babies?

Eric--it was Baron Harkonnen! He was really creepy!
dupe removed
I'm so glad his detractors concentrate on policy disagreements while decrying the lack of civility in the current political discourse.
NOT!

He definitely should not run? They all have the same old agenda that is anti-American. He has nothing different to offer.
So, Smiff, sounds like maybe you should..... call a cop!
but it's ok to call the president "THE OTHER" . OR THAT HE'S A SCARY BLACK MAN. and all the other mean sprited things they say. you don't like it when someone calls your people something but it's ok for you. you are a hippocrit. period. and so is the GOPTP.

Yeah because what works in Illinois is really moving the country forward.
If Obama is the answer how stupid is the question?
I simply don't understand why Republicans go into orgasmic ecstasy whenever Chris Christie's name is mentioned as a possible Presidential candidate. To me, he is ill-mannered, crude, wrong on every single issue, and a morbidly obese, undisciplined slob. But I suppose that, compared to the other Republican candidates, he looks pretty good to them.
The fact he's not the current incumbent of the White House makes him look pretty good to them.
Heck, his previous pledge NOT to run was pretty convincing. Changing his mind now is Romney-like, so sit this one out, Governor. There's always 2016.
Christie looks like a potential heart attack just waiting to happen. He would have to have a healthy VP lined up. McCain lost votes based on the fact that he is as old as dirt and we didn't want Failin Palin in charge if he died.

The gun running campaign bundler payoff (Solyendra, GE, GM, Union) Thug-in-Chief MUST be voted out in 2012.
WHOEVER republicans run will whup Obama, hard working citizens NEED a conservative TEA PARTY PATRIOT to turn this country around
And if they can only lower the taxes on the rich SOB's that sent our American jobs to Communist China, all the better! Go Tea party! Get rid of all our jobs.
we already had a conservative Tea Party patriot in office for 8 years and yes, he did turn this country around

Given the GOP popularity track record of loving on the new-guy, he should probably wait to announce until the day before the primary.
