“The Senate reached a bipartisan spending agreement yesterday to avert a government shutdown, sidestepping a bitter impasse over disaster financing after federal authorities said they could most likely squeak though the rest of this week with the $144 million they have on hand,” the Boston Globe writes. “After blocking one Democratic proposal, the Senate voted, 79 to 12, to approve a straightforward seven-week extension of funding for government agencies that were due to run out of money Friday, simultaneously replenishing accounts at the Federal Emergency Management Agency that this summer’s string of natural disasters nearly exhausted.”
The New York Times: “While the Senate actions appeared to head off a government shutdown for a second time this year, the embarrassing fight over disaster aid pulled into sharp relief both the enduring, sinewy power of the Tea Party — and its deep impact on fiscal policy — and Democrats’ revived pugnacity as they press President Obama’s jobs plan through next year’s elections.”
The Hill: “Under the agreement, the House would have to approve that stopgap measure by unanimous consent later this week in a pro forma session. This would give the lower chamber enough time to return from Congress's weeklong recess to consider the six-week measure.”
“Beginning to climb out of the hole they dug for themselves, House and Senate leaders agreed Monday night to take a series of steps intended to keep the government funded past Friday and defuse what’s become a partisan, even institutional fight over budgeting for disaster aid,” Politico’s Rogers adds.
The Wall Street Journal on Republican House leaders Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy, and Paul Ryan at Facebook HQ yesterday: “Three top Republican lawmakers used an appearance at the social media giant Facebook on Monday to push for eliminating regulations that hinder the private sector.”

A very shameful position GOP/TP have taken regarding helping the needy in our nation. This political impasse is the major reason why the economy has this dark cloud over it.
GOP/TP have resolved to never to do anything to enhance the living of the very needy, the poor and middle class, but would rather die to protect mr job creator's tax welfare. They are very much okay to allow companies like GE cart away billions without paying their fair dues. Looking for cuts in programs directly affecting the lives of the middle class before they approve of help to them while turning the other way when it comes taxes crippling the economy. Taxes that's very obvious the nation can't afford anymore.
This GOP/TP party is a shameless party. The party of greed, a party of me me me me and me. The party of no idea at all. Clueless on how we move this nation forward with resolute scarifies from all.
More grace to your elbow in your race to the bottom ideas.
Pen,
The government owns GE!
Hey PEN-24,
You do realize that Obama's job czar (Jeff Immelt - CEO of GE - the same guy that is creating lots of jobs in China and moving part of GE to China) was sitting with the first lady during the Jobs Bill Speech - right?
And you blame the TP for this? You need to get out more.
Obama should fire Immelt immediately due to a conflict of interest.
And anyway, wasn't part of the CR to give the auto companies $1.2 Billion to re-tool for more green energy stuff? After Solyndra, all money going to those initiatives should be cut-off.
This is getting ridiculous. First, Congress was threatening to shut down the government over a spending cut worth 0.04% of the federal budget. Now they seem to be trying to fund the government on a weekly basis. This dysfunction is not good for our economy or country.

I agree Scott, the voter needs to wake up and see what the tea people GOP republicans are doing to our country, and quit falling for their sound bites.
Mo,
I am a Texas Tea Party Express member, please tell me what I have done to our country and what sound bites have I made.
Your obviously blind to what and who you support. Open your eyes and see the light.
Not quite an answer their Mo.
I am happy in my "blind" support. Sorry to have asked for some truth out of you.
