Gingrich previews his new 'Contract with America' at CPAC

Video edited by NBC's Morgan Parmet

At the CPAC convention in Orlando, FL earlier this morning, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich previewed the updated "Contract with America" he plans to unveil in Iowa next week on Sept. 29.

"It's going to be bigger, it's going to be deeper and more profound," he said.

The former House speaker, who co-authored the first Contract with America before the 1994 midterms, said the United States is in greater trouble than it was back in the 90s.

Gingrich said that if he is elected president, he will sign between 50 and 200 executive orders to re-shape the government.

Nothing about the hearing today on Solyndra, Eh?

I have to say I am somewhat surprised - Chuck Todd actually covered them a little on his show.

Maybe it was just me, but Todd seemed to be a little off today.

And before I forget - Happy birthday Jody and NewDay.

I am glad you decided to come back NewD, and I alway enjoy your comments Jody.

Here's to many more.

Breakfast @ Tiffany's Anyone?

The only Contract with America 2011/2012 version any Republican (including Newt) has is to screw the working class, screw the middle class, have offshore accounts, send jobs overseas, buy homes in other countries, and guns for all. And of course, bombing Iran. Whenever.

Someone last night somewhere said that Newt hasn't had a job for 12 years. LoL.

He is an odd one for sure. Very odd.

Moon River, wider than a mile, I'm crossing you in style someday. Oh dream maker, you heart breaker, wherever you're going, I'm going your way. Two drifters off to see the world, there's such a lot of world to see...hmmm

And then yesterday we had John Boehner's famous

Welcome To My World, won't you come on in, miracles I guess still happen now and then. Step in to my life, leave your cares behind, Welcome To My World, built with you in mind...

(Not sure if I got the words right, strictly from memory)

Dean Martin sang Welcome To My World, and like John Boehner, was born in Ohio. And like Dean Martin, who famously said that never in his life read a single book, I wonder the same about Boehner. They share another common bond - guess.

(hint: Cheers!)

Okay, back to Contract With America, written by Newt Gingrich and the Neocons.

I would understand why redwig and other disciples of obama's 'big government' agenda would mock Gingrich's Contract with America. It represents everything they are against. Some of it's points are:

  1. require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply to Congress;
  2. select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse;
  3. cut the number of House committees, and cut committee staff by one-third;
  4. limit the terms of all committee chairs;
  5. ban the casting of proxy votes in committee;
  6. require committee meetings to be open to the public;
  7. require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase;
  8. guarantee an honest accounting of the Federal Budget by implementing zero base-line budgeting.

Many Americans still support this, unfortunately redwig and a few others hate it..... thankfully they're in the minority on this issue and many others!

Miked..No problem but we might want to add the following:

9. Eliminate the "Super Majority" rule in the senate

10. Put all committee meetings on c-span except for classified national defense issues

11. Compel all members of congress to take minutes and publish same in the congressional record whenever they meet with lobbyists.

12. Eliminate no bid contracts except for sole sourced or proprietary products/services.

Newt is yesterday's news.

He has favorability ratings similar to those of another former House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi.

While he's positively brilliant compared to Pelosi (many are), his time has passed...President Obama's, too.

Yes Mike, if Contract with American hadn't been blocked by the libbies, perhaps obama would never have been allowed to so quickly get funding to Solyndra without proper underwriting. Perhaps the invasive healthcare reform called obamacare wouldn't have been shoved down our throats so quickly... what Congressman in his right mind would have voted for it, if he had to be personally bound by it?

Also obama would have been unable to use $17million of his stimulus money as a 'gift' to Oregon University thus saving Michelle's brother from losing his job as the ineffective coach of their losing basketball team.

Yes, I agree, if Contract With American were fully implemented today, things would be quite better for America as the administration would have had a more difficult time with their unpopular and ineffective policies!

“select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse” That worked out so well for the investors in Enron.

“limit the terms of all committee chairs” Dumb down the intellect so committees become ineffective.

“require committee meetings to be open to the public” Yes lets ensure that even more decisions are made for political reasons.

“require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase” Like that works so very well in the Senate.

Honestly Mixed bag, not in this life time. Romney's only job experience is buying businesses, firing all the employees and selling off the remains. He flops to easily on important subjects and Rubio is a child not ready for primetime. Besides he still hold the outdated believe that tax cuts create jobs, that line is also past its pull date. It will take more than one side to fix this country and the ones we have are not working together for us. Anyone taking hostages or attempts to extort the public as the republican party has should be strung up for treason on the american people as a whole.

No wait, come back people -- It's the "new and improved" contract, really!

About trying to change the subject, I think we should all report such posts as no value each time and collapse it. But ultimately, as I've tried to explain to the conservative conspiracy theorists, if it isn't gaining traction in mainstream media it's usually because there isn't a story there. The birth certificate nontroversy is the best example. But then conspiracy theorists by nature believe everyone in the world is in on a cover-up. Ha!

Seriously, if you're getting information from viral Emails about hybrid seeds or websites like WorldNetDaily, therein lies your problem. This is just The Enquirer in other forms. Before the anti-intellectualism movement, people respected experts, analysts, economists, scientists, etc., but unfortunately now Aunt Bettie is a more credible source.

And the posts above about policing your own is correct. The Republicans and their 11th Commandment will be their demise.

Oh and do not go back to the Tarp money or any other funding ideas started by the bush admin. Stay with current Obama ideas, name the ones passed and inacted by the house republicans and how they have failed. Stimulas 1 did not fail as it did create jobs that has been shown clearly, enough jobs to get us out of trouble, no but was that Obama or an economy in worst shape than original stated. Oh, snap!

    Good one Drive By, but you not being the boss, it not being your company, and you just being a worker bee, I guess expecting you to get the not so subtle reference to Government money flooding in versus and having to earn it, is lost on you.

    But I know it felt good, right Drive By? Sure it did.

    Ok Drive By I give up, you are that dense.

    OR maybe I can apply for "re-traing" to make green stuff, like solar panels. You know so Obama will give me millions of dollars. That way I won't have to earn anything, just live off the government tit for a spell.

    Cause see when you earn money, like I do, payment comes in over time. Sure it comes in, but not like a giant flood of $535 million, all in one shot.

    You getting this yet Drive By?

    Probabaly not.

    Good ol Spankster at it again from another thread:

    "Obama is a venture socialist, and that is horrible. The government need to get out of business- cars, whatever the hell green energy is, all of it. It's just no good at any of it".

    Hmmm interesting:

    Fascism:
    A governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often
    racism.

    Socialism:

    A theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of all the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

    Neither one sounds like Obama. However, there are certain characteristics of the first definition that fit the current crop of conservatives.

    Spanky, you really need to read more and perhaps return to college in order to brush up on your critical thinking skills. You also might want to look up the definition of a Luddite and the NO Nothings. 19th century stuff dontcha know.

    Reply#4 - Fri Sep 23, 2011 1:27 PM EDT

    Torpedo venture socialism:

    Obama uses our money to invest in start up companies. Not private money like a venture capitalist.

    The concept is pretty basic actually Torpedo.

    You really ought to stop trying so hard. Relax, express your opinion, join in the discussion, and above all, have some fun.

      VA Ind -

      At the very least, the "obstructionism" goes both ways - however, Senate Democrats actually voted for a bill with MORE disaster aid - $6.9 billion, as opposed to the $3.7 billion in the GOP House bill - and want it to go to those who need it immediately, with no strings attached - as opposed to the House bill which insists on further arguing over spending cuts:

      "In their recently released continuing resolution (CR), GOP leaders included almost $3.7 billion in new disaster funds, most of which would go to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA. Republicans have proposed to offset the most immediate allocations by slashing $1.5 billion from a Democratic program that subsidizes fuel-efficient vehicles and other green technologies.

      The $6.9 billion provided by the Senate Democratic proposal is not offset by changes elsewhere in the budget.

      The House Democrats contend the victims of recent disasters don't have time to wait for another drawn-out partisan battle over budget pay-fors.

      "The families that remain without homes in shelters are not interested in seeing more gridlock in Washington. The farmers who lost their crops and livestock do not care about debates over deficits and offsets," the Democrats wrote in a letter to Boehner and Cantor.

      "Whenever a natural disaster has occurred in the past, this government has come to the aid and assistance of those affected," they added. "This time should be no different."

      House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) delivered a similar message Tuesday, noting that Democratic leaders always supported unfunded emergency aid under the Bush administration."

        I do remember that former Speaker Gingrich, during the debate, said that he would MANDATE that all people on unemployment get job retraining (run by the private sector). This is similar to when he said that he would MANDATE that people on welfare submit to drug testing. If it is wrong to MANDATE that citizens have health care (purchased in the private sector and not run by government), if it is wrong to MANDATE that children get immunizations (recommended by pediatricians), how is Mr. Gingrich not being hypocritical? What "incentives" would he have to give the private sector to make them offer job retraining to people on unemployment?

But Newt hasn't got a chance at the nomination for countless reasons, it is nice they let the old timer get on stage and re-state all those tired old Ronald Regan talking points long past proven to be the foundation for our nation's economic collapse, and he throws a good zinger out once in a while.

                        HE STATED THAT Herman Cains (999) tax plan would double tax people with savings that they had already paid taxes on , THE FACTS ARE this is true , THE PROBLEM with his argument is HE IS IN FAVOR OF THE DEATH TAX , this two is double taxation , HE IS all so in favor of more taxation of the rich , THE wealthy actually have more money that has all ready been taxed , so it is that the wealthy would in the beginning pay more double tax ,
