McCotter exits presidential race

Michigan Congressman Thaddeus McCotter (R) has dropped out of the presidential race and will endorse Mitt Romney, his New Hampshire campaign director Chris Buck confirmed to NBC News.

"It was a personal decision. He didn't feel his message was being well received by the national media," Buck said. "He has always put the country's needs first before getting any notoriety."

McCotter will run for re-election in 2012 for his House seat. "People recognize he is very strong on policy and he's going to be continue to be very strong, leading the country in a positive direction, not as chief executive but as a legislator. He can have a pretty profound influence on the country's prosperity," Buck said by phone.

That presumes that he was ever really in the race!

Hey newdayDAWNING, your post reminds me of the episode from MASH, where a man no one met died, yet everyone had wonderful things to say about him at his funeral. It was hilarious. At least this guy McCotter was/is real.

Or is he? I've never seen him but have heard wonderful things about him. Lol.

Aw, heck.

See Drive By - you all got on my today for not picking a horse. So then I did. I was all about Thad.

And now this.

Total disappointment. I should never have listened to you Drive By, and now I'm sad.

From hence forth, having learned my lesson, I will not be picking anyone else, but rather will let the political process play out.

If, that'd be ok with you Drive?

Now Thad can get back to playing guitar in his band. He's a real rock star here in Michigan.

Nobody here knew he was running either.

Who knows?

Maybe President Obama will follow Lyndon Johnson's lead, exit from the race, and allow Democrats to select a viable 2012 candidate.

I'm guessing it seemed impossible then...

Not so different from now, really.

Good for Thad. Dropping out was the most positive part of is ill-fated and ridiculous Pres. campaign.

McCotter should know the 101 songs that Johnny Cash would''t want you to forget.

Except, the last song.

Maybe now he can concentrate on his new sitcom... "Welcome Back McCotter"

Oh Thad, too bad, so sad. I don't know anything about him other than he plays guitar, but for that same reason I won't say anything negative either.

In the meantime, the Teabaggers will walk across coals to vote...against President Obama. Oh if only the Generic Synthetic would run! Too late conservatives -- Your only other hope will be for someone to run as an Independent. So you best be getting to work on that (wink, wink).

Exactly! There are folks running for President other than Perry, Romney, Bachmann and Obama, but the media doesn't even acknowledge them. It would be nice if all the candidates got some attention, someone might actually be worth looking at! Buddy Roemer is running, too. I had no clue who he was until Jon Stewart had him on The Daily Show. I liked Buddy Roemer!

Oh, but my favorite candidate who the media ignores and literally rolls their eyes at is:

    Ron Paul 2012

Pat, I remember that episode! It was hysterical, and did anyone really know this guy was running? Say, if you get time, interested in Warren's prospects. Hear she is a bit ahead in polling.

newdayDAWNING, she's doing so good that according to an article over @ Think Progress, the Republicans here in Massachusetts have asked Harvard to stop paying her salary. (I bet they're all men.)

She would make an excellent Senator and an excellent President. She truly stands up for the middle class. She's strong and not afraid to tell it like it is.

There's a long way to go, but I'm feeling a lot of optimism from people I've talked to, including some Republicans, who feel burnt by Scott Brown and the Republican Party as a whole.

They can see that the Republican Party as they thought they knew it has left them, for good. It's as plain as the nose of their faces that their party is only out for the rich. They get it now.

They love Elizabeth Warren and are thrilled she's running against Brown.

She said the other day that the rich didn't get rich on their own. They had help. From us.

You won't ever hear a republican say that. We're the ones who actually work for a living. The Republicans don't work at all. Especially the House.

Did I mention they're off again next week? And they want to do away with unemployment benefits. Let's "unemploy" the lot of them.

Thanks so much Pat. I saw her response about how the rich did not get rich alone, but on the backs of everyone who pays taxes. THERE'S someone I could support if I lived in your neck of the woods. Seems to me that Brown is going to have some trouble with the teabaggers what brought him to office!

As the Republicans lurch ever further to the right, moderates and Independents are left behind.

The divide between Republicans and the rest of the country is growing ever wider, and moderates and liberals are slowly realizing they actually have a great deal in common.

Even some Republicans who have managed to unplug from FOX have realized that they, too, have a lot more in common with those who support working Americans than they previously thought.

    And the next big topic for discussion;

McCotter drops out of race for GOP presidential nomination

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter told The Detroit News this afternoon that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination after he failed to win access to the Republican presidential debates.

"If they keep you out of the debates, you are out of the conversation and you can't run," McCotter said. "It was sort of death by media."

    From The Detroit News: http://detnews.com/article/20110922/POLITICS03/109220448/McCotter-drops-out-of-race-for-GOP-presidential-nomination#ixzz1YiKCjDiL

Doesn't this important "political news" merit a thread of its own?

Well, how about that? And I was kidding...

At least you know Johnson climbs moutains, now.

Just because Fox doesn't give Obama positive press coverage, doesn't mean they should pick and choose on the rest of the candidates.

If this (any) debate was truly fair, each candidate would have had equal time to answer each and every question asked.
