More Pro-choice Democrats:

[Chicago] Mayor Rahm Emanuel is giving city workers an important health choice: enroll in a new wellness plan, expected to be unveiled Friday, or pay a higher premium.

The price if they don't enroll: $50 a month.

From now, until Election Day next year, it's going to be about jobs.

Not the U.N.

The GOP debates?

You bet.

Because that's where the alternative to President Obama's real, actual record on the economy, economic growth, and jobs will be discussed.

Maybe Democrats will begin to take baby-steps to offer their own alternative to what we've seen.

Who knows, First Readers?

  • But will GOP end the risk/me-me-me-me excuses and create jobs for millions of Americans? Or will they pass up the opportunity once again.
Our President Barack Obama is out there fighting on our behalf to make jobs for millions of Americans. GOP voted down four jobs bills this year. GOP Governors have already fired 600,000 workers on the pretext of budget cuts.

ROLLOVER GROVER, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WANT THE REVENUES FROM THE WEALTHIEST GROUP IN THE WORLD MAKING THE MOST PROFITS IN US HISTORY!

    PASS THE AMERICAN JOBS ACT.

PUT OUR AMERICAN FAMILY BACK TO WORK!

Definitely ready for the DDI this evening. I hear there's an American Jobs Plan petition there to sign telling Congress to PASS THIS BILL. Have a great weekend everyone!

Bizarre. JS1 had the chance to go on a rant about the UN and blew it with a huge dump (shovel ready?) based on some blog--I can't find a credible source showing any interest in the Chicago wellness plan nontroversy.

Another GOP debate..snore... Cool about Bill Clinton on Meet the Press though.

Bag boy, how many times do we have to tell you it's not President Obama'seconomic record. We are still in the W Bush Great Recession, with Bush "trickle down" tax cuts, and deregulation, and spending on wars. We need change from Bush era voodoo economics, and we needed it yesterday.

The American Jobs Act is based upon present & past bipartisan support. Immediate impact on jobs and the economy is predicted.

The AJA gives a tax cut for small businesses to help them hire, expand and gives another tax cut to businesses that increase wages for current employees. It puts teachers, first responders, construction workers, returning veterans, back to work.
The AJA extends unemployment benefits to help support our families while we look for work. It also provides support via training programs to build skills and lift up the long-term unemployed. The AJA cuts half the payroll tax on our paychecks, saves a typical family $1500 a year, helps families to refinance their mortgages, save money and keep their homes and makes HARP more accessible. Tax breaks for small businesses and working people.

I just read that one JAS1. Super funny that Nanny Rahm will force the libbies to exercise. in the end though - most people could use a little more exercise. Problem for Rahm is the $50 will not be enough. Let's wait till the little piggies start to howl when he hits them for a C-note.

I was also reading about the "other"/"missing" $458 million loan or guarantee to Solyndra that Team Obama made. When asked for comment team Obama chose not to provide one. So the question is did they give more money? If they didn't, and it was authorized for Phase 2, why not? Cause they knew Solyndra was going down.

Or my favorite - they simply can't be bothered to track a measly 1/2 a billion [more] of the peasants money.

    Presidentin' is hard.

I wonder if Dominico know about this little ditty?

Pom poms in, and "GO OBAMA!"

Hey Feisty! Is that music I hear from the dear old Dew Drop Inn! Gee, you guys have done a good job keeping it up! What oh what have we learned this week? Apparently, nothing, if you watch the Republican debates. Seems like there is a concerted effort with the folks running to try to appear as disinterested in the current century and knowledge as possible. Was watching our friend Chris Matthews, and he showed a clip of Perry, proudly bragging that he was tenth in his class. Now, when my cherub does that, it means that there are nine people ahead of her in a large class. When Perry does it, he means 10th out of 13. He thought it was pretty funny and I guess it might be if he didn't want to be the leader of the free world. Our friend, Michelle, not to be outdone, said that she met a mom who claimed that her daughter suffered retardation after a shot. Now, Michelle was not particularly interested in if it were verifiable, it allowed her to screech about Perry and his gosh darn mandates, so all is well in Michelle's world, true or not.

    Speaking of music

What about the second raid on Gibson, with armed agents. The first raid was in 2009, no charges where ever filed and the government still has possession of their inventory.

Gibson is attempting to have its property returned in a civil proceeding, but the Justis Depart is trying to stop court case indefinitely.

“The Federal Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. has suggested that the use of wood from India that is not finished by Indian workers is illegal, not because of U.S. law, but because it is the Justice Department’s interpretation of a law in India. (If the same wood from the same tree was finished by Indian workers, the material would be legal.) This action was taken without the support and consent of the government in India.”

true patriot - the recession ended in mid 2009, since then it has been obamas recovery. Seems inconceivable that like many other FR libs you haven't figured that out yet.

Golly gee tp, obama had the power to get us out of iraq and afganistan immediately after being sworn in as POTUS, but seems that he chose to also get us into libya and didn't our state department start telling US citizens in syria to get out, get out now!?

Nice how obama and company has identified over 500 regulations that are stifling job growth (at least his speech last week said so). Gotta love how obama embraced bush's tax cuts by extending them as his own until 2013. Heck even obamas plan of payroll tax reductions and SS tax reductions are just another way that bush tried doing when he gave us all bonus $300+ tax returns during his term.

Shlt, just realized that obama is just embracing what bush did, only obama is going bigger and our mounting debt proves it.

american-2051576 -- What planet do you live on? Why don't you do some homework on GDP, unemployment rates, poverty statistics, trade deficits, etc. and get back to us on how the W Bush recession is over.

And please enlighten us on what has been passed, other than the stimulus--which everyone said back then would need a second round, that DID create about 3 million jobs that can be attributed to President Obama. Or have you already forgotten the threats to shut down the government and cut off unemployment insurance that got the Bush tax cuts extended? Or the threat to default on our good faith and credit that got Boehner 98% of what he wanted? Even EPA standards have been put on hold, and not only are we drilling at record levels, the sand oil pipeline was approved.

Our current economy is the Bush era policies, and has been for over a decade. If you don't like current economic policies, than you don't like Republican policies--but you can't figure that out, can you?

After the 2010 election, President Obama moved even more to the center, because that's how it goes. Troops have been decreased in Iraq. But until enough right-wingers like Gingrich get behind an end to the wars, it will be a hard thing to do.

The House is where a jobs plan would have to originate, and currently Republicans have a super majority in the House. In fact, the special elections made that even more the case. Stop with the nonsense about Reid presenting a plan from the Senate--that's not how it works. Even if it did, Reid would need a filibuster-proof super majority, which he does not have. Ask your own DO NOTHING Republicans in the House where are the damn JOBS?

The payroll tax cuts for small businesses is far better than the corporate welfare currently in place. Reagan increased the tax base by closing loopholes and ending subsidies, but now Reagan is only a fanciful Deity to conservatives who live on what ever planet you're living on.

The libbies still don't get it, but did they ever? There's plenty of issues to keep FR going strong for a long time, but let's discuss some issues they (libbies) would prefer to ignore:

The bloom was off the Obama rose long before anybody was willing to admit that it was.

What this country wants is a conservative leader.

There is no jobs bill, and there's no jobs in that bill. All that is is tax increases.

Obama is not about fixing the problem. He's about attempting to fix the blame.

Tim Geithner says the economy is in the early stage of crisis. No kidding.

Some of Obama's best friends are on Wall Street. It's called crony capitalism. Some of his best friends are CEOs of the biggest American corporations. You want to start indictin' people, the people to indict are in the regime.

Families USA was the public relations team for Hillary Care, and their intention is to get as many people as possible dependent on government provided health insurance as soon as they can in order to make it impossible to repeal.

The more Washington spends, the worse unemployment gets. If Obama would just say that he had a plan to drive up unemployment, he'd be hailed as a genius. (Rush Limbaugh)

All valid points, eh? Quoting Rush is sure to get redwig to make another batch of mojitos! lol

TP - by economist standards the recession ended in 2009, you obviously missed that news blurb time after time.

Hmmm, didn't the CBO put the estimate more in line with somewhere between 1 and 3 million jobs created? Yet, why not look at the department of labor numbers on jobs created each month? You do know that the labor department is THE SOURCE of employment numbers right? Actual jobs created are more in line with the 1 million number. The data can be found at the department of labor web site.

Please do understand that your excuses matter little for what transpires in passed legislation or in how economists look at periods of recessions and periods of recovery, after all each is different.

Structural economic policies can take a year or more to show its effects, which implies that bush and company had already started steps to contain the recession. The 2009 stimulus had the intent also of ending the recession and to start the US on the road to recovery. It was obama and companies plan, not bush's. Remember obama was sworn in jan 2009.

If you have any type of rudimentary political or economic knowledge you should be able to see why anyone (at least since FDR) can lay claim to current positive or negative numbers as being the responsibility of past politicians. Unfortunately, once an administrations and congressional torch is passed, the argument becomes mute as the new administration and congress becomes the responsible party to further define changes in policy, whether new or old. You kind of had it right, but refuse to acknowledge that we have a basic two party system and that any policies made by the bush2 administration also had to have the support of democrats as well. Just because you can't accept that is your own personal problem.

Rather shows how really naive you are when it comes to congressional responsibilities when you insist...

The House is where a jobs plan would have to originate...

Not hardly, obviously you refuse to read our constitution on the duties of congress. I lay no claim to the intricacies of parliamentary procedures as set up by congress, but I at least know how to read the constitution on what each governments basic job responsibilities are.

I see you have no confidence in reid creating a bipartisan jobs bill in the senate. I for one wouldn't expect it to be the same as presented by obama, just as I know the houses version won't be as well.

Interesting how you refuse to acknowledge that as POTUS, obama is also the commander in chief of the military and does have the power to bring the troops home immediately, stay in place or to order them to go to various pther parts of the world.

ROTFLMAO on you wanting me to do my homework with your knowledge base so obviously lacking in the fundamentals. BTW - why is it that NO ECONOMIST OR POLITICIAN has ever been able to prevent a recession from occuring or having a working recovery plan? Your assignment this weekend TP is to learn what the US constitution has to say about the job functions of the congressional and executive branches are. 100% comprehension is not expected, after all, even obama doesn't have a 100% rating on understanding it or do I.

We are now on the verge of a double-dip recession, and possible depression depending on the rest of the world. Ask fellow Americans, including conservatives if they feel the economy has recovered.

Jobs Plan - Obama Administration & Congress

Mother Earth - Where We All Have A Stake In It - Our Infrastructure

    Written by Bob Hennelly

From North Carolina up through the upper reaches of New England, our collective plumbing failed and it killed dozens of people and will cost billions to fix. It wasn't Katrina, but it affected thirteen states and showed how totally inadequate our existing water management infrastructure is. It also graphically illustrated how thousandsof bad local landuse decisions, when hit by a storm the size ofEurope, can all help produce a "natural disaster" withcontinental consequences.

For decades in pursuit of property tax revenues and economic development we have built shopping malls in swamps, clear cut forests, and paved over farmland for box stores, while neglecting the existing infrastructure in our urban cores. While the economic development model based on sprawl made some people extraordinarily rich, it replacing naturally regulating natural systems - swamps, meadows and farms - with a mindless repetition of stripmalls and fast food joints in state after state, leaving nowhere for the rain water to go.

"When you pave over these surfaces you are changing mother nature's pattern in a very significant way," says Eric Goldstein, senior attorney with the Natural Resources Defense Council. "Rain water and snow melt race over paved surfaces fifteen times more quickly than they would over green areas like meadows or wetlands, and that than creates an avalanche of sorts of rain water and storm water that has to go somewhere."

The EPA reports that since the founding of the republic, North Carolina has filled in almost half of its wetlands, Maryland 73 percent, Delaware 54 percent, Pennsylvania 56 percent, New Jersey 39 percent, New York 60 percent, Connecticut 74 percent and even "green" Vermont destroyed 35 percent of its wetlands.

Goldstein says he believes there is a scientific consensus that we will see more Irenes as the planet continues to warm.

"Storms that would we would refer to saying, 'we haven't seen a storm like that in twenty or thirty years' - those could become a more regular events as the result of changes taking place in our climate and we have to prepare for that," Goldstein says. "We have got to plan for that and we have to invest in the infrastructure to protect out lives, our homes and our communities in the event of future severe storms."

"What we need to do as a society is build into the marketplace or through programs the value that farmers provide, which often we don't value until after it is gone," says Wagner. "People say, 'boy we never used to see the stream flood this badly or we never used to have water like this.' Well its because upstream you used to have farms and forests, and now you have developed it all."

Wagner says with a nation increasingly pinched for cash for concrete projects that control water, it's more essential than ever we see swamps, forests, and farmland as the most cost-effective water management infrastructure.

"I have certainly have never seen anything like it in my lifetime, the amount of water that has been dumped on the northeast," he says. Rusnica says the scale of Irene just dwarfed exisitng water controls.

"If we continue to experience these big 500 year storms we'll haveto rethink out infrastructure completely," says Rusnica.

When it comes to dealing with floods we have been doing the same things year after year. We pay for people in chronically flooded properties to re-settle in the same location over and over. Maybe, its time for us to try something new that in the long term will save us money and buy these folks out and send them to higher ground.

Can we learn these lessons or are we doomed to just keep repeating the same failed behavior? Connecting these dots are our 21st century WPA scale challenge. But just where is our Roosevelt?

    _______________________________________________

Hurricane Irene, by the time it reached us, was a Tropical Storm. The devastation was unbelievable.

We are going to continue to keep spending billions of dollars year after year unless and until we rethink of what we have done ourselves to cause this destruction and change it.

Our infrastructure is old and inadequate to deal with these storms. The evidence is there.

Like I said, Hurricane Irene was a Tropical Storm by the time it reached up here. And yet look at the damage it caused.

We know better. We ALL know better. Congress, deal with it now. Otherwise, more property will be lost, more lives will be lost. And billions more will be spent. For what?

Other than a few of his koolaid drinking disciples his credibility rating ranks the lowest in modern history! Pat of boston - sounds like you are of the opinion that man can build a viable structure that nature can't destroy. Sorry, I believe nature will always win out as man always has to make tradeoffs in design decisions when he builds something.

Man can design and build an extremely fuel efficient auto, but I think its safety star rating would be very low. Just like man can design and build a very durable and safe vehicle but its fuel efficiency rating would be abysmal. Think atmored vehicles and the recently purchased presidential buses.

So dennis, you seem to be of the opinion that the democrat controlled senate is the new obstructionist party, and that reid will become the new spokesman for saying NO!

A shame if boeing can't build in south carolina, and we aren't talking about minimum wage jobs or poor bennies either.

Wonder why obama isn't going to bat for boeing? All those projected well paying jobs to build a known product...guess boeing isn't as sexy as soylanda (sp) was.

american -- You can refer to the Handbook for Contrarian Arseholes all you want and produce nothing just like the GOP/TP in congress.

According to the United States Constitution (Article I, Section 7, clause 1), all bills relating to revenue, generally tax bills, must originate in the House of Representatives, consistent with the Westminster system requiring all money bills to originate in the lower house which is why the appropriations bills that are enacted begin with "H.R.", indicating a bill that originated in the House. The Constitution also states that the "Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills," so in practice, the Senate and House each drafts and considers its own bill. The Senate then "cuts-and-pastes", substituting the language of its bill of a particular appropriations bill for the language of House bill, then agrees to the bill as amended.

    112th US Congress:

House Of Representatives: Republicans = 242 (the largest number since 1947-49) / Democrats = 193

(Now add two more for Republicans, because that will get things going -- Not.)

Senate: Republicans = 47 / Democrats 53 -- NOTE that Republicans require an unprecedented filibuster-proof super majority of 60 votes on all legislation now.

Since January 3, 2011 we have had a potential government shutdown resulting in extension of the Bush tax cuts, and potential debt limit default resulting in the Tea Party Downgrade. And no Jobs Bill.

That'd be a sight to behold. A Tesla rokin' the oval, leading the back, emission-less.

But then after 1 and 1/2 laps at a sustained speed of 186.5 mphs it pit stops.

Normal NASCAR pit stop takes, what like about 1 or two minutes? Telsa recharges it's battery in just 8 short hours.

    Could be a issue.

Well, another week, another couple billion in debt. . .

Solyndra hit the fan- a year after iWatch broke the story. Here's a clue, guys- if you wait a year to actually start covering the LightSquared scandal, you'll be smack in the middle of the campaign. Might actually be better to let all the "poisons hatch out " now, rather than later.

Obama is now going around tellingmpeople that if they love him, they'll help him pass his spending bill. Poor soul- judging by the look on the wife's face during the speech, even she is not willing to get in there and pitch.

He's also out there telling people that his spending bill will create 1.9 million jobs. Is he a slow learner, a complete moron, or a pathological liar? Does he not remember his statement that his first stimulous bill would create 600,000 jobs during the summer of 2009? Or is it that he thinks WE have forgotten?

Any one of the "journalists" on this site want to check that out?

This past week, Obama learned that, sometimes, when you throw an ally under the bus, it comes back to bite you. I guess he's not so sanguine about this vote on Palestinian statehood, unless, of course, he is so narcissistic that he believes his own spin- that is, that he had no responsibility for the loss in NY9.

I'm pretty certain that if he throws Biden under the same bus, Hillary Clinton will not be quick to jump in Biden's grave. I just don't see her going down with Obama's ship.

Ah, well- the liberals are spinning out of control, Obama is sinking like a rock, and vie got a pot roast in the oven.

Susskind's book coming out this week- the people associated with the President quoted in the book are now scrambling around, saying they did not say the things they are quoted as saying.

My favorite? Summers' quote about "no adult in the White House". Now, why did I always know that meme was mean to cover another Obama deficiency- like "no drama Obama", the mantra fed him by Axelrod, which was meant to contain his petulant displays of temper, being appropriated by his fan base as an admirable quality?

Here's the problem with that apples and oranges analogy, Dennis-

First, Reagan's plans had not yet been fully implemented.

Second, double digit inflation was already a thing of the past-

In other words, things were, in fact, beginning to move in the right direction.

Not so for Obama, whoa plan seems to be that he needs another honeypot to pay off his new donors.

Do yourself a favor, and face reality-

Obama has failed, and he is so completely flummoxed by his failure, he is more than doubling down on stupid.

Tell me, were yup advising him- after his promise of 600,000 jobs as a result of the last stimulous in the summer of 2009 that failed to materialize- would you not tell him to STOP promising specific numbers of jobs- let alone 1.9 million?

"Promise them anything, but give them Arpege" did not even work for the fragrance company that used that idiotic ad campaign.

Does he, and you, believe that people don't remember these promises? Do he, and you, think we're too dumb or distracted to remember?

I can assure you, we're neither.

      Face the facts, Dennis-

      Obama shelved in 2012.

Now, tell me, Dennis- do you REALLY think Reagan gained ten points in 48 hours- or do you think the polls were wrong?

One of the "truths" of that election was that pollsters had more democrats coming out to vote than actually did- but I voted, and so did my husband.

For Reagan, and we were both registered democrats.

It's so hard to admit when you've failed. Look at Obama, your idol.

        >History of the Federal workforce on average (Excluding military personnel):

Key: President <> (Average Govt. Employees) <> (Population) <> (Percent of Population)

        Reagan <> 2.91 mil <> 237.5 mil <> 1.23%

        Obama <> 2.78 mil <> 308.7 mil <> 0.90%

        http://www.opm.gov/feddata/HistoricalTables/TotalGovernmentSince1962.asp

Clearly the Government was larger under Reagan than it is
under Obama both in raw numbers and as a percent of the US population and
Reagan did not have a bump due to temporary census workers as Obama did.

        >Reagan initially cut taxes while increasing spending. So much so that his policies more than doubled our National debt that was on a path to be paid off by around the year 2000.

Then, while still spending beyond our means he raised out taxes 7 times to pay for extreme spending spree.

        >New York Times/CBS News poll, Sep 10-15 2011:

Asked if President Obama has “a clear plan for creating jobs,” 43% said yes, while 52% said no. But asked if congressional Republicans have such a plan, only 24% said yes, while 67% said no.
The poll found dissatisfaction with Congress is growing to near-universal levels. Asked if members of Congress deserve re-election, only 6% of people said yes, while 84% said it is “time for new people.”

Asked if their own member of Congress deserves re-election, only 33% said yes while 57% said it was time for a change.

The Times/CBS poll surveyed 1,452 people and has a margin of error of +/-3%.

It's the Republican National convention, and Perry and Romney are deadlocked, with Bachmann in the position of being kingmaker and republican VP nominee in one fell swoop. The party establishment is apoplectic; a Perry Bachmann ticket polls as a loser in November, whereas a Romney Bachmann ticket is a winnerbut Bachmann is certain to choose the more conservative perry, and probable defeat. Despite their reluctance the party regulars draft the most charismatic republican, (who garnered almost 20% of the vote in some contests as a write-in) when she agrees to select Romney as her VP and running mate, and Sara Palin becomes the republican nominee and first woman to run for president from a major party without winning or for that matter entering a single primary. But irony abounds...

In his Christmas message to the nation, a visibly weary president Obama, with unemployment still at 9 percent his approval rating languishing in the high 30's, and trailing both republican front-runners, in the polls, shocks everyone when he announces that VP Biden is stepping down and that his former rival, secy of state Hillary R Clinton will assume the post of VP, the first woman to hold that position in American history.

He then stuns the world when he then announces that he will not seek a second term, passing the torch to Mrs Clinton who announces. after a 2 month "listening tour" her candidacy for president and runs virtually unopposed to the nomination. Choosing VA sen Mark Warner as her running mate, and in the midst of the worst economic crisis since the great depression, Clinton and Palin vie to be the first woman president in history.

A few weeks ago a "wing walker" was killed at Selfridge Air National Guard base northeast of Detroit. Safety equipment wasn't checked out and it failed. The performer fell 200 feet to his death right in front of the crowd. Probably a lot of children.

Just a reminder that there is always an element of risk inherent in these shows, and you just can't make it all go away entirely.

May God rest the victims and comfort their loved ones.

              So Connies on this board:

NY 9, Solyndra, Nevada, the polls,........all looking beyond dismal for the Democrats.

Well. Guess your job here is done.

I guess the election ahead is all sewed up for you guys. America will elect a repub Congress and President. Then President Perry and V.P. Bachmann will appoint two more to the SCOTUS and presto!!! Republican Nirvana. We'll have 100% repub, 100% of the time. No crats allowed.

Then the repubs will go about doing the same things they did the last time they held total power,....with the same results. Remember 2006? Not exactly ancient history: People losing their houses, banks failing, companies going bankrupt, unemployment skyrocketing, stock market plummeting, dollar value dropping, yeahhhhhhh........

              Good times.

It's why Obama is in the White House now. It is why Pelosi became SOH. It is why the Democrats took the Senate. It's the reason for Kagan and Sotomajor. Elections had consequences because you repubs tanked the country.

Need your memory refreshed? Vote the repubs back in again. Go ahead. With America still wheezing in the throes of the Bush Recession/Depression?

This time the repubs will finish off what little is left of America. She's on the ropes, and it won't take more than a little nudge to polish her off,.......... permanently.

              Hey Lynn/Feisty,

Ever notice how when you score a big one the righties totally ignore the content/comment and just move past it like it isn't there?

There have been a few of mine lately where the righties don't even rise to the bait. No comment. They're stymied. Stumped. Stunned into silence. Beaten down.

It just goes to show you that their ideology is wrong,.......AND,.........even THEY know it!

Throw in "huff enough glue" and that would explain your comment.
