The president will be heading back to Ohio next week and this time he’ll appear in Speaker John Boehner’s backyard. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced this afternoon that President Obama will take his jobs message to the foot of an aging bridge that connects Ohio to Kentucky.
He'll deliver the message “at the Brent Spence Bridge, urging Congress to pass the American Jobs Act now,” Carney said, “so that we can make much needed investments in infrastructure projects across the country and put more Americans back to work.”
While this section of Ohio isn’t actually in Boehner’s 8th Congressional District, it’s close enough to cause a flurry of questions during Carney’s briefing, including if the White House alerted the Speaker’s office of the speech plans. Carney didn’t know the answer to that and as for the optics of it all he said was, “If you're asking me if, by going to this bridge, are we hoping to draw some attention to this urgent need? The answer is unequivocally yes.”
The president spoke of the bridge during his Joint Session of Congress speech last week.
“There are private construction companies all across America just waiting to get to work,” Obama said then. “There's a bridge that needs repair between Ohio and Kentucky that's on one of the busiest trucking routes in North America.”
There’s already a website highlighting the Brent Spence Bridge Replacement/Rehabilitation project which states
“Currently, the Brent Spence Bridge and the I-71/I-75 corridor support a level of use that far exceeds its original design. Specific problems include growing traffic congestion, safety concerns, and design deficiencies…The National Bridge Inventory lists the Brent Spence Bridge as functionally obsolete due to the capacity, sight distance, and safety concerns associated with its current configuration. “
It’s anticipated work on the bridge will begin in 2015 though the nature and cost of that project is still in the process of a review.

Speaking of Boehner...
It wasn't too obvious he had a liquid lunch! ;o)
The dude either has some serious digestive problems or a bad case of beer burps!
After 10 months of hollarin about job creation, Otis the Drunk on the Andy Griffith show sounded more cohernant than this jackwagon...
A 20 minute campaign speech & still not one idea out of Otis on job creation, other then the failed policies that got us here in the first place!
OH HELL NO!!
Take it to them Mr. President - let them explain to the victims families who's responsible for the next massive bridge collapse!
Hey Feisty, I see you daily attack Boehner as a drunk.
What are your feelings about our Drug Addict President? (As admitted by him in his books)
President Barack Obama is out there fighting for us, for our futures and our jobs. We are the 98%.
We are 300 million strong and that's a lotta collective brainpower.
Do we do what we do for the good of our families or for big corporations?
The top 2% has enjoyed a long innings at our expense. Over the last 10+ years, the wealthiest Americans received $3TRILLION in tax breaks. And more than 80% of all Americans reallyreallyreally want to see those revenues back on the table. We're in a different place from 2001, when we had a surplus and deficit.
But now the favored few can do right by us. Yes they can!!
They're making the biggest profits $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ ever seen in US history and they can start paying revenues. They can support the American Jobs Bill so that out-of-work families can feed their children and pay their bills, constructions crews, teachers, police, firefighters, veterans and the long-term unemployed can go back to work.
Endless tax loopholes for Big Oil, or putting police, firefighters and teachers back to work? Norquistean tax breaks for millionaires $ billionaires, or investments in our infrastructure, schools and future technologies? Jared Bernstein says that the AJA proposal has a lot of 'fast-acting parts'. Well, we can act fast and make ourselves heard in the halls of Congress quite OK.
We made it clear to Congress that we want to protect and strengthen Medicare for future generations.
We told them very very loud, out loud. So now Congress please ~
PASS THE AMERICAN JOBS BILL! LET'S PUT AMERICANS BACK TO WORK!
PASS THIS BILL!!
PUT AMERICAN WORKERS BACK TO WORK!
Oh, another speech from Barry! What's he up to, two, three a day now? Just can't get enough of this guy!
Obama is out there trying to save his crumbling presidency. Hey Barry, it's not working.
Correction: In 2001, we had a surplus and No deficit.
With all due respect to President Obama...
I don't think that Speaker Boehner fears him, or his visit to Boehner's district.
He's at least held his own in his dealings with the President, beginning with the negotiations the new Speaker-elect conducted with the Obama Administration on the extension of the Bush-era tax cuts.
Make your case, Mr. President.
Then, let's see how it all shakes out.
If you're referring to youthful experimentation - I guess that would make us a nation of addicts...
Given Bush's booze & cocaine problem - do you really want to go there?
Feisty - let them explain to the victims families who's responsible for the next massive bridge collapse!
Yeah, it will be Boehners fault that Obama didn't fix the bridge with the first 800 Billion dollars that we gave him to fix bridges with.
Sounds to me like Feisty is rooting for a bridge to collapse with "Victims" aboard. Never let a crisis go to waste right Rahm?
Feisty,
You missed the opportunity to point out the recent allegations regarding caribou barbie. Now we know the fascination with bendy straws!
Of course I'm sure she's not an addict. Just some youthful experimentation is all.
Is Bush an elected official right now? Why do you always end up blaming/comparing your savior to someone you think was the worst President ever? Youthful indescretion is how you reconcile the Presidents drug use, eh? How convenient.
See Feisty, the truth is you got no game. You can't debate, but you can toss nasty one liners that your buddies like. And ya know, for you, that's great. It's nice that you have an outlet for your anger.
I fear it will just get worse, though since appears that President Obama, much like you, ain't got no game either.
More Carnival Barking from the Spender In Chief. The liberals would love to have this bridge fail in some way, they are that sick that someones elses tragedy would feed into their perceived gain. Anything to justify this nut we have for a president call for more spending. That's all the Left has remaining is spreading fear with their lies.
Get a grip Libs, my gosh you are so da*n pathetic.
Obama 2012 - "The Bridge to Nowhere Campaign"
Investments means borrowing and spending money we don't have that burdens our kids.
Infrastructure means his re-election infrastructure.
And as the article stated this project could start by 2015.
So Obama is more about a campaign talking point than actually creating near term unemployment relief?
Yea .... that sounds about right.
JAS1, wouldn't surprise me one bit if somewhere in Middle America in the middle of the night, a bridge suddenly collapses. Luckily no one will be hurt, but it will highlight the need for the Presidents stimulus package. I'm guessing Ohio, Michigan or Pennsylvania.
There are a couple of bridges down near the Chrysler Jeep plant that are just a stones throw from the Union headquarters.....hmmmmmmm....
Hmmmm.... Can someone tell me how many DUI convictions President Obama has?
And what exactly Boehner's JOBS plan is??
Anyone...?
It seems the Weeper of the House forgot to take his Midol again...gettng all teary eyed...and it wasn't Obama that made him cry this time.
...or maybe he just had a few belts at the country club...?
Imposing new limits on itemized deductions for those who earn more than $200,000 a year and families earning more than $250,000. Getting rid of those deductions will bring in $400 BILLION in revenue. Ending subsidies for oil and gas companies and modifications to depreciation rules for corporate airplanes:
Such a tax package would raise $467 BILLION, more than enough to pay for the new jobs bill.
LET'S PUT AMERICA BACK TO WORK!
80% of all Americans have said very loudly that they want the top 2% to put revenues on the table.
Boehner talked about himself, and everyone waited for that???
Say, White Collar Auto: About that bridge collapsing in Middle America. It already did. In Timmy Pawlenty's back yard. Bunch of people killed, I'm sure you read about it.
You mean like this? lol
I wouldn't be telling someone they've got no game when that's the best you can do... ;o)
Feisty, I know you have a hard time with this literary stuff sometimes, but try to find the irony in my statement about the President to describe your inability to have a discussion.
Figures that is what you focus on and then get it wrong.
NDD-R: How many years ago did that bridge collapse, August 2007? How many Stimulus dollars have been spent (supposedly) to fix bridges since then? Try to keep up, will, ya?
Why do we argue about this jobs bill every day, anyway?
The whole upshot is- if it might help unemployment go down, it might help Obama's reelection chances, and then he wins, the economy begins to improve and the people win.
Can't have that, now, can we TeaBagees?? The economy improves- a good thing. The people get a win- a good thing. Obama wins.......Oh, yeah- now I remember. Better for the country if millions stay unemployed. Silly me.
"How many Stimulus dollars have been spent (supposedly) to fix bridges since then?"
We don't know. All the governors that accepted those dollars (the ones left over after tax breaks, that is) never tell us how they spent them.
Some great posts, and funny because it's all true. If only Boehner could show the same enthusiasm for American workers as he does his golf game. Hard to tell who's having the most Low-T problems, bipolar Boehner or over-compensating-a-little-too-much Perry (Perry's may be more of orientation issue).
Build, baby, build -- Obama/Biden - 2012!
backhouse,
Really?
Got the math or a reference on that?
You could tax all the Fortune 500 compaines ....100%.... and that would not bring in enough to cover it.
After that - what do you have other than all the Fortune 500 companies office and facility space vacant / now for lease after they move overseas?
The Wood Mackenzie study last year warned that $5 billion in “new” taxes (or removing the deductions) would reduce domestic oil production by 400,000 barrels a day, destroy 170,000 American jobs by 2014 and lose $128 billion in government revenues over about 15 years.
What kind of a moron thinks this is a moron jobs plan?
BTW - One more correction to your first post ..... there was no Clinton surplus - ever hear of intragovernmental holdings?
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
And what exactly Boehner's JOBS plan is??
Anyone...?
Feisty
I know one person who can't. And that's John Boehnor.
Good point, dbo-
If it all goes bad, what's the worst that could happen?
We're down another $447 billion.
Chump change, in the Age of Obama.
The Chinese will cover it.
Hey DBO - I know how Jennifer Granholm spent Michigans money. She used it to plug the hole in the budget so she could get out of town with one final pay off to the people who elected her. $40-50 million I believe. If it hadn't been for that and the tobacco money old Jen-Jen would never have balanced a budget. Over-spent every year and never did "Blow us away" like she promised she was going to do.
Year one for Rick Snyder. Budget is passed for the next fiscal year and balanced months ahead of time. Guess what, the sun still comes up in Michigan every day, and the kids are back to school, despite the cries from the left of "DRACONIAN CUTS" that will devestate the very fabric of our lives!!!!!!
We do have some great drama teachers here, though.
Bob,
Go ask anyone on the street who is not in denial, if there was a surplus after Clinton left office:
President Bush did not pay for wars for the first time in US history.
President Bush gave tax cuts for the wealthy in a time of war for the first time in history.
The second time he signed up for those tax cuts in 2003, we were already at war in Iraq.
There was no deficit when Clinton left,
And the US was on track to pay down the national debt.
Would be concerned about your sources. Any refs or running around you need on that one, is up to youse. But it is all out on the street.
Anyone with half of a brain knows knows what Boehner and the Republican-Tea Potty is up to. There is one and way no how they want to give the President the chance to fix the jobs problem.
The President has to keep taking his case to the people.
Job1
You're the Talk of our dinner table with your "Teapotty" thing.
We get rolling around in the aisles over it. And maybe if they will allow it, it's funny on all sides of the aisles. So thanks.
Backhouse,
You get your information from the street? No wonder you're clueless.
Instead of asking some clueless person on the street, why don't you google it.
Anyway here you go (and so you don't keep repeating the myth/lie):

Regardless - Clinton did wonderful compared to Obama.
Too bad Obama won't work with and listen to repubs like Clinton did.
If he did - he would be re-elected and America would heal.
Job1, the President already took his case to the people, as you suggest. Check the poll numbers. Fact is, you can't sell stuff when it has already FAILED in the past.
For the love of God... will someone puhleeze quit feeding Leona quarters???
She's bouncing off the walls...
Bob,
Am very sorry you believe the import of what you wrote. By all means, go forth with your intragovernmental holdings explanation for the world, the Universe and Everything.
The way you talk about unions WAC I thought you were a drama teacher.
WCA: Does it matter when that bridge fell down...because those people are still dead. And Timmy didn't respond very well.
Bob,
Your data incorrect. Go on Fact-check.org.
Clinton ended era with $236.2Billion surplus. If there's a surplus, you can't have a deficit.
But you CAN have a debt.
And Clinton was on track to pay down the National Debt.
Enter Mr. Bush........
http://www.factcheck.org/2008/02/the-budget-and-deficit-under-clinton/..
WCA:
Wow...this is a sick, twisted shot, even for you, dude...get some help, you ignorant dolt.
...totally uncalled for...
The paranoia runs deep -- into your soul it will seep...
You got it Mickey,NY I am not sure if he is rooting for it collapse on the union guys or suggesting that they will purposely cause it to, either way that is the kind of thing you routinely get from WCA when it comes to unions and their members, always paints them all with a broad brush and acts like they are all corrupt thugs. I suspect that if he is a white collar auto industry worker he has a very low level position and is jealous that the assembly line workers have a better income than he has, or he watches way to many re-runs of The Soprano's, and can't separate fact from fiction, or both.
Forrest, Mickey and Feisty
I read it that he was contemplating arranging for the demise himself,...funny how those "I was just joking" suggestions seem to play out. And not funny, ha ha; if you know what I mean.
redwig, you would know better than most about 'liquid lunches', you've been nailed several times here for posting under the influence (pui), haven't you. How many mojitos did YOU have before lunch?
Feisty I tried to find out how many OUI's President Obama has had but a team of high priced lawers moved in and had my request denied. Imagine? Hey speaking of that... Bush got a "C" in US Government in College. Remember, we all made fun of him? What did The President get? Anybody know? Oh yeah, sealed... Odd that.
Say, here's some "talking points":
A reporter reminded Lew that a Democratic-controlled House and Senate had chosen to not pass these measures in 2009 and 2010. “You had a Democratic House and a Democratic Senate and it went nowhere. So how are you going to get it done now with a Republican House?” he asked.
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/09/13/7745889-gop-leaders-dismiss-revenue-raising-in-obama-plan
If Zandi’s estimates are correct, for example, the program would cost roughly $235,000 per worker to create jobs that would likely pay a quarter of that or less annually.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44489655/ns/business-eye_on_the_economy/
It seems obama is getting banged by everyone these days, even ultra liberal Carville, maybe that's why he's traveling so much, lol.
After 10 months of hollarin about job creation, Otis the Drunk on the Andy Griffith show sounded more cohernant than this jackwagon...

"cohernant"???
Sounds like you have the bottle half full Nasty.
Yes- speaking of Boehner, the other day my wife was looking at him on TV, sitting next to Biden behind Obama during the joint session of congress, and she says "hey- Boehner's darker than Obama!" Sure enough, she was right!
My room mate must be a racist. But she's a funny racist. I said
"good one, honey, Keep 'em Coming!"
Want to hear another knee slapper? Obama went and spoke about his spending plan in Virginia, got all kinds of media exposure, took it to Cantor's "backyard"-
And his approval ratings in Virginia tanked.
Cue laughter.
Hope he's just as "successful" in Ohio.
So is there something wrong with this bridge? Does it carry traffic? Does it pass inspection? Is it properly maintained? If so, why exactly does Obama want to replace it? Seems kind of wasteful.
Obama 2012 - "Rebuilding Stuff That Doesn't Need To Be Rebuilt With Money He Does Not Have"
"....took it to Cantor's "backyard"-
And his approval ratings in Virginia tanked."
On topic, as usual. Was this story about Virginia?
Of course not. Keep 'em coming, JO JO- as only you (and Smiff) can.
" Seems kind of wasteful."
"wasteful". Jobs for people that need them and are willing to work for their keep are like that. Yeah, they are.
"
Current Bridge status
The National Bridge Inventory lists the Brent Spence Bridge as functionally obsolete due to the capacity, sight distance, and safety concerns associated with its current configuration. These concerns have led to this project being considered a top priority by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments and the cities of Covington, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio." http://www.brentspencebridgecorridor.com/AboutProject.html
Nationwide:
http://www.bts.gov/programs/geographic_information_services/maps/structurally_deficient_bridges_on_the_national_highway_system/
At least Obama knows they exist. The Republicans are busy coming to consensus that emergency funds for disasters have to be budgeted and offset by cuts.
Smiff- can we get a comment on GrammaKnows' post, here?
I understand some of these bridge projects are funded and are being held up due to environment impact studies. You know red tape and regulations. Bottomline is all this "shovel ready" in this "stimulus" will have the same results. Difference is the new slogan is "pass the bill now". This economy will not improve in the next 16 months just like it didn't improve during the last 32 months. Temporary "sugar" highs funded with borrowed funds results in debt. Some day the day will be a real issue. The Democrats do not want to reform the entitlement programs now, to score political points and votes, just wait until the debt leaves us no choice.
no joe, no bo, nj
Want to hear another knee slapper? Obama went and spoke about his spending plan in Virginia, got all kinds of media exposure, took it to Cantor's "backyard"-

What the hell are you talking about? Do you mean to connect "Bridges About to Collapse" with polls?
The Sherman Minton Bridge, one of three major bridges spanning the Ohio River between Louisville, Kentucky and southern Indiana, was closed Friday after cracks were found in its structure. The bridge closure came just days after Sen. Mitch McConnell (R), whose Kentucky home is less than 13 miles from the bridge, derided President Obama’s jobs plan — largely based on infrastructure investment — as a “re-election plan."
I can never discern what goes on in your alternate reality when you attempt to connect the dots.
Tony C-2383666 -- Existing bridges that have already been approved, with apparent ongoing need are...being held up by environmentalists. You gotta lay off the viral Emails.
A lot has been learned from the stimulus, one of which is NO don't give the money to the states, but rather to pre-identified projects, as the president said, that is ranked by priority of need. As we know, governors like Perry used it for their own personal bail-out, and the rest we don't know where it went (just like Iraq).
There's a lot more to the jobs bill, including summer work for kids. Enough with right-wing lies about not being "shovel ready" and lies about how the stimulus didn't create jobs -- because it DID create almost 3 million jobs -- I'm talking to you, Perry and your fellow DO NOTHING Republicans. The naysayers don't have a clue what's in the plan. They're just trying to attack it from the outset the same way they attacked the president from day one.
Get out the shovels for all the chicken crap from the GOP/TP -- gotta keep cleaning up Republican messes. Bev -- That bridge is already being called Shermageddon.
["Rebuilding Stuff That Doesn't Need To Be Rebuilt With Money He Does Not Have"]
Smuffy, you might want to stick with what you do best, and that's play the role of manure spreader.
You obviously are out of your element concerning engineering and just what it takes to design, build, and maintain a bridge...especially after eight years of redirecting funds to not one, but TWO wars that were done "off the books" instead of going to such capital projects as highway and bridge inspections and maintenance, to name a few.
This country's infrastructure is in far worse shape than you realize. Trust me on this. The I-35W bridge in Minnesota was just the tip of the iceberg. Many collapses have been prevented by the influx of money into the system after that collapse, but we have a very long way to go.
You should be concerned, but it's obvious that you couldn't give a flying screw, as long as it doesn't get in the way of your constant regurgitating of talking points.
That's your choice, but a word of warning...you might want to make the sign of the cross before you cross that next bridge.
We're going to need all the help we could get.
Is the bridge closed? Doesn't sound like it.
And if a new one is needed, Obama can pay for it out of his Green energy slush fund. Those funds seem to be being flushed down into a black hole.
HAHAHAHHA! Little Dick, you are hoot! What, do you hide in your moms basement all day to keep away from the bad world? What a pathetic little fear monger you are, but perfect for an Obama minion. You keep running around and shout "The sky is falling, the sky is falling!" Little Dick.
The only thing crossed on you are your eyes. Brighten up Sunshine.
Ms. Smiffy knows a thing or two about little dicks - it's why she's so well versed in rolling over & playing dead! ;o)
Her crossed eyes is a whole nother story...
Smiffy,
My offer still stands...you know...about kissing the baby...
Anyhoo...you just keep on doing what you do best...which seems to be nothing...you're good at it.
Hey, maybe one of the intrepid reporters on the trip could ask him about this
http://www.iwatchnews.org/2011/07/19/5253/politically-connected-lightsquared-pushes-wireless-internet-plan-despite-gps
Oh- and throw in a question or two about the General who was pressured to change his testimony in favor of the company.
Cause, I'm pretty sure, there's another "distraction" coming.
Or maybe someone could take him to the the Sherman Minton Bridge(over the Ohio River) connecting Louisville, Ky(Sen.McConnels HomeTown) & New Albany IN. This I64 main Bridge was shutdown just a few days ago & handles upto 400,000 vehicles Daily.
Indiana DOT shut it down for at least 3 weeks(more likely 6 months).
Interstate 64 connects St.Louis-Wahington,D.C.
What do you RightWingBibleThumpers propose we do about such Infrastructure Failures?
Pray it does'nt Collapse while you're using it!
Pray Away!
Why didn't they fix it with the first $800 Billion?
Suddenly everyone's an expert on failing bridges.
What a bunch of hypocrites.
WCA:
[Why didn't they fix it with the first $800 Billion?]
It's obvious you've never been outside of your little neighborhood.
Simply put so even you can understand it, $800 billion would have just been a drop in the bucket needed to fix the infrastructure that is substandard and/or failing across the United States.
Because by the time Gov. Perry and his ilk got their hands on those funds and used them to balance their states' budgets and "reward" their good supporters, there was not enough funding left....
Colorado is fixing the bridges with the first stimulus money. And all appreciate it.
Go Obama go. Let the republicans have it. Let the whole nation know just how much they obstruct everything. Especially let the nation know that republicans have put rich before country and this is not a war that the poor started.
If our country is truly in need why is it so wrong to ask the richest of us to share in the sacrifice?
A reporter reminded Lew that a Democratic-controlled House and Senate had chosen to not pass these measures in 2009 and 2010. “You had a Democratic House and a Democratic Senate and it went nowhere. So how are you going to get it done now with a Republican House?” he asked.

Go Obama Go! Let the Republicans have the election by continuing your well meaning but poorly thought out strategies!
BTW, nobody filibustered it, the Democrating Senate and House all voted against it in 2009/2010. Go look it up.
Good for Obama, take your message to the foot of an aging bridge that connects Ohio to Kentucky.
Maybe someone can ask him why this wasn't part of stimulus one?
Darn those decisions made at the state and local level,...I mean anything else would have been a FEDERAL take over, right?
Those Republicans sure played hide the pickle with the stimulus dollars. Some of them even used them to balance budgets and never spent them at all,...go figure.
thetotas - Ditto Clara - why didn't Ohio & Ky request the funds and get it done? (The answer to that is it is part of the Interstate system. It's Federally funded, not local, and Congress won't approve the funds)
Just in case you were REALLY wondering, this IS what Ohio used the money for:
http://www.dot.state.oh.us/Divisions/Communications/Pages/FederalStimulusProjectListing.aspx
Doesn't that first paragraph say 21,000 jobs created or retained? Hmmm...failed? or directed to where donors would benefit most?
Boehner is going to have the boo boo lip look on his face again.
Just to show America that this jobs plan Obama has isnt a political stunt he rounds up a bunch of unemployed liberals and heads out to Cantor and Boehners back yard.? This is just another sign of Obama's poor leadership. Seriously a 5 year old would realize if he wants some help from a colleague you don't piss on thier milk and cookies and then ask them to share. We desperatley need a better leader in the White House....
"..you don't piss on thier milk and cookies and then ask them to share."
What do you do when you try to share you milk and cookies with them, and they tell you they don't want you in the room with them in the first place? I'd do more that p!ss on 'em.
You are SO right,...I mean all those times President Obama invited the Republicans to lunch, dinner and parties and they either soaked it up or slapped him in the face,...right.
Every constituency has the right to hear from their President what he's trying to accomplish,...not just trust that their representatives will put it through the word salad shooter and it will still represent any facts. Real question, why wasn't Boehner handling this during his five weeks off? Oh, right, he had vacations to take, lobbyists to blow and cronies to coddle. He didn't have time for the little folk.
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/08/19/obama-isnt-the-only-one-on-vacation/
not to mention how apolplectic these fools would be if he didn't spend time with his family. He's taken far less vacation than his predecessor; and all of it with his YOUNG family. The horror.
The lack of cooperation Obama is getting has more to do with the ridiculous laws he signed while Pelosi and Reid were in charge. They led this inexpeirenced politician around like a donkey in a kiddie parade. Now that Pelosi is out the faucet of stupid bills is shut off and Obama is having trouble coping with new leadership. That is not likley to change if he did get re-elected in 2012. Maybe it's time the Dems picked a better candidate.....
UAW Pleeeeeeeease
The lack of cooperation Obama is getting has more to do with the ridiculous laws he signed while Pelosi and Reid were in charge.
Give me a break!!! Do you know how many dumb laws the Republicans have put forward since John Bone-AIRE took the gavel?
Bonus question: How many created a job?
UAW, what kind of laws do you consider ridiculous?
None - but on the other hand they did name a whole lot of Post Offices...
Fielden,
You ask what ridiculous laws Obama signed, how about for starters 1) First Stimulus bill; 2) Cash for Clunkers; 3) Bail out of Chrysler and GM; & 3) DADT; and there are more.
Sarge you do know that Willy's isn't building them jeeps any more.
[You ask what ridiculous laws Obama signed, how about for starters...]
If you're talking about TARP 1, the U.S. Treasury made almost $10 BILLION that little ditty;
According to the auto industry, C for C was a success...it stabilized a failing auto industry, and almost 700,000 new autos were sold in 2009 because of it. It was a success in that it kept Americans at their jobs. It was such a success that the program had to be expanded. But, if you listen to NoJo, who claims that it was a failure because "it took many used cars out of circulation and there weren't many left for poor people to buy...or some bullcrap to that effect;
Kept 1 MILLION Americans employed...what's not successful about that?
So, you don't believe in equal treatment of ALL out service men and women? Only the "select few" that meet a certain criteria...or YOUR criteria?
Mickey,
I was referring to Obama's stimulus bill that cost 800+billion. If memory serves I believe President Bush was responsible for TARP and signed it into law.
As far as Cash for Clunkers it was not a success for a majority of people. There might have been some success according to the auto industry but only if one is concerned about the UAW's who made out like bandits.
The bail out of Chrysler and GM did not keep 1 million Americans employed, especially when you deduct the number of people that were laid off when auto dealerships were closed.
As far as DADT, being an old soldier from the old school I was not in favor of DADT and I don't believe it will succeed, but I hope it will. I said a long time ago the gay community really didn't give a damn about DADT, it was just a stepping stone to try and overturn the Defense of Marriage Act, and it appears is might be working as Obama has told the Attorney General not to defend the DOMA.
Oh dear, ridiculous laws. How about Frank/Dodd, have you noticed the 10's of 1000's of announced lay-offs at banks recently? Here's a hint liberals when banks lay-people off they also loan out less money for job creation..... The TARP Program was originally designed to stimulate lending. But Obama'santi-bank rhetoric essentially rendered that program useless and instead of loaning that money out banks clamed up just to repay and get that monkey off thier back as soon as possible. Imagine if a private Banker invested billions in a loan program then hopped in his jet and flew around the country bashing anyone who took part in those loans. That is exactly the POOR leadership we got from Obama.
You would think with all that money that went to Solyndra some of that money could have gone to that bridge...
That's a good idea JK. You can't export bridge building jobs either..... :)
Notice how the Republicans like White Collar Worker; want everyone to play by their rules.
So their BS can garner some sort of weight. The fact of the matter is - whenever you pukes want to compare President Obama to your savor Ronald Reagan ... it's fair game.
But mention - you major disappointment George Bush and then all of a sudden...it's not revelvant.
Another prime example of how screwed up the minds are of the hateful mongers like you!!!
George Bush was the last Republican in office...he should be the one we compare our President too...but honestly when it comes to anything good...there is no comparison...As George Bush was the worst President of any time in American history.
So no wonder people like White Collar Worker - wants to forget him.
NOT - that idiot caused all of the problems that our current President is trying desparately to fix.
TRUTH - not CRAP
Thanks you and GOD BLESS AMERICA
there is no comparison...As George Bush was the worst President of any time in American history.

That's relatively historically correct, but on a lighter note, Jimmy Carter has had a pretty good 21st Century so far,
From worst President of my life to 3rd, in just two administrations!
But, according to Obama, what he is doing is not political.
All I know for certain is that this Obama has spoken of his desire to "circumvent Congress" twice in just a few weeks. Once at the La Raza speech and the other just yesterday...
Obama repeated the sentiments to another
Latino group – the Congressinoal Hispanic Caucus Institute.
“As I mentioned when I was at La Raza a few weeks
back, I wish I had a magic wand and could make this all happen on my own,” Obama
told the group, according to the Washington Examiner. “There are times where —
until Nancy Pelosi is speaker again — I’d like to work my way around
Congress.”
Barak Obama 9/14/11
This jobs bill he is pushing so hard to get passed right away with no debate whatsoever is designed ot fail so he can say "see how evil the Republicans are they don't want you to work"... Why would anyone who is paying attention to things like the above mentioned statements, the legislation thru regulations or the outright lies believe a word the man says anymore?
The Republicans have had a jobs bill sitting in the Senate for over a month now awaiting Democrats to vote on it, they refuse... I wonder if the Democrats are the party of "NO" now?
What Republican jobs bill? Have a link so we can compare the content with Obama's?
What jobs bill? I have nothing of a jobs bill. Please enlighten.
http.//www.examiner.com/civil-rights-in-chicago/the-truth-about-republican-jpb-creation-bills-part-one
If the link doesn't work just go to the examiner. com website.
or look up the Reducing Regulatory Burdens Act H.R.872 as well as The Energy Tax Prevention Act-H.R. 910 and The Clean Water Cooperative Federalism Act-H.R.2018 and Consumer Financial Protection Safety and Soundness Improvement Act-H.R.1315
All of which have been sitting in the Senate awaiting the Democrats to vote for them. All would help tremendously in job creation.
I wonder if Obama can a pick a business , like he did with that solar company who took $500 + million in "stimulus" Then they can build these bridges. OH WAIT, the solar co. took the money and went belly up. So much for Obama and his "jobs plans."
Are you talking about Solyndra?? THIS Solyndra??http://cleantechnica.com/2011/09/15/solyndra-advanced-by-bush-for-2-years-solyndra-timeline/
Gramma,
Uh oh...the conspiracy theorists like Mixed Bag are going to be very angry with you!
...sorry Mixed...I just had to... ;)
Bob,
And the forecast in my crystal ball if the 'Pubs take over is.......
wait a bit, there's NOTHING there....hang on, there's a bunch of scared-looking white follks working for pennies in a factory.... a lot of folks are living and dying out on the streets....floods and disasters washing right over them and not a soul to help them...look at that.....it's a collapse of our society ..... Just a minute......no schools for ordinary people, very few teachers any more...it is illegal to meet and illegal to complain about anything... ALL the prisons are privatized and about a third of the nation is in them...they can't afford anywhere to live....a lot of them cannot read....ALL the schools are privatized....no science is taught....shortage of water and food....we are a third world country....Wow.
Welcome to the Feudalism Future if we follow the right wing wish list. Looking out for shareholder bottom lines and sticking it to the other 98% will do it to you.
Really?
outhouse...get off the crack pipe you've lost it....
Republicans don't want you to know their real plans Backhouse. Being that it is true all they can do is attack you.
attacking insane ridiculous lies...? yep.
American,
This was in response to another poster. The future is not fixed but cause and effect is a powerful thing. Imagining is not 'lying' Greg.
It doesn't matter what President Obama and the Democrats propose for desperately needed job creation and infrastructure repair, Republicans are adamant in refusing to see past the partisan mud-slinging, even when bridges are currently falling apart in both Mitch McConnell's and John Boehner's respective states.
If it was Ronald Reagan proposing the American Jobs Act, he would be heralded with saving the nation. If Michele Bachmann was President and proposed everyone wear tin-foil hats and pray to the mothership, the Republican controlled congress would probably stand behind it ... just as long as it wasn't something the Democrats were proposing, because anything that might help the economy would in turn make Democrats look good, and that can't happen . . . even at the expense of the country.
The GOP has gotten to the point where there's no longer any empathy for "The People", (if in fact there ever was) in fact somehow the lines got blurred between american exceptionalism and narcissistic individualism ... corporate profits at the expense of the middle-class.
Christian Values also appear to be a complete contradiction, especially when a crowd of largely christian conservatives at GOP debates are prone to cheers and boisterous applause for things Rick Perry's record-breaking rate of State Executions, and Ron Paul (physician) proposing to let people die if they can't afford private health insurance ... after all, that's the way a free-market system works, dummy !
Government is broken because the GOP has an agenda behind the scenes to design a corporate-backed dictatorship, one that's scarily gaining traction ever since Republicans swept the 2010 mid-term elections, and a very realistic prospect should they actually sieze power in 2012.
The latest GOP shenanigans ? Apparently they've been hard at work trying to manipulate the voting process state-by-state, pushing for measures requiring voters to produce a government-issued ID before casting a ballot. Republicans are keenly aware that their right-wing policies to "lower taxes for the rich" and "gut medicare" are wildly unpopular with lower-to-middle-class voters, so they figure that by making it harder for everyone to vote they can decrease overall voter turnout, thus giving Republican candidates an a marginal advantage at the polls.
If people aren't paying close enough attention to what goes on in the run up to the next election, the sound we'll all hear reverberating across the country will be the proverbial door of a Corporate Controlled Aristocracy slamming shut on a once proud and free America.
The U.S. Legislative process has become a road to nowhere.
wow, the lefty liberal loons are really getting desperate based on these posts...they are getting crazier and meaner all the time......
the American people are so done with this nonsense, O'bama - President of record Food Stamps, highest # of Americans living in Poverty in 52 YEARS...9% unemployment, 1st ever credit downgrade...a 3 year old housing crisis (more like disaster), out of control spending and record deficits....Nov '10 was part 1.....Nov '12 will be part 2
its over folks he's one and done..., real hope and change is coming.....get ready....
O'bama - President of record Food Stamps, highest # of Americans living in Poverty in 52 YEARS...9% unemployment, 1st ever credit downgrade...a 3 year old housing crisis (more like disaster), out of control spending and record deficits.
The most amazing part of all this is that Obama caused the stock market crash, the housing crash and all before he even came to office. We can't blame bush because you now blame Obama for everything that bush did. The highest # of Americans living in poverty didn't just start 2 1/2 years ago. But blame Obama so republicans can get in office and finish destroying America.
You know as well as I do that the credit downgrade was brought to us by the tea party. But hey any lie works. A 3 year old housing crisis started before Obama came into office and republicans are blocking any reform to help these people. As a matter of fact republicans want less oversight so it can happen again.
Republicans have done their very best to kill hope and the only change will be for the worse and they start selling America off to the lowest bidder. No more government workers, just we will be hiring more contractors at 3 times the cost and call it smaller government, it just will cost more for less.
Someone who would cheer for someone to die because they don't have heath insurance is beyond scary to me. If that is real hope and change I don't think I want any.
O'bama and company do nothing but blame everyone else for everything, they'll take no accountability for the nearly 3 years they've been running the show....that's not leadership
you can blame everyone else as well, but at some level you must accept that O'bama policies have not helped and in most cases have made things worse
We are not worse. That is just the lie you like to repeat over and over. What are the policies that have not worked? The stimulus that was for an economy that was twice as bad as we thought and then the republicans wanted us to have half of what Obama asked for and then half again was tax cuts and still was attributed with saving millions of jobs.
The health care doesn't even start until 2014 so it can't have made things worse already.
Everything else has been obstructed. How would we even know what Obama policies look like?
Pass the Jobs bill, with tax increases and all and lets see what President Obama's policies look like. If he is wrong we will all know by the elections. The republicans won't even give his polices a chance just like the rest of his presidency.
oh yeah sorry to get off topic a second, but just a quick question....does MSLSD have to wipe down the camera lense during commercial breaks for Chris Mathews? I actually turned on his show to see this highly respected liberal commentator and he just seems like an angry, middle-aged Charlie Brown spraying spittle at his guests and the camera..yikes is this where all you lefties get your information?
Well if Obama doesn't do any better there than he did the last time he had to deal with Bonehead and Mcconnell, America will take it on the chin . For those that do not know any Geography that brige goes from Bonehead to Mcconnells territory. Those two took Obama and America to the cleaners last time he tried to deal with the JESSE JAMES DUO.
I was born in Arkansas and Jesse James was a hero in the south, he stole from the rich and gave to the poor and kept families from losing their homes and starving. My grandpa born in 1899 was named for Jesse James. In the south, in my family, he is more equated to Robin Hood.
Bonener and McConnell steal from the poor and give to the rich. Not like Jesse at all.
The House Republican Plan For America's Job Creators. 10 page document, Including Title cover page. HUGE fonts, 4.5 pages of illustrations.
"Streamline tax code" Keep the loopholes, drop the overall rate. No paybacks to the taxpayers for pollution cleanup, infrastructure and utility maintenance & upgrades...OR for safety net supports the taxpayer shells out for sustaining low wage workers.
Not for working Americans (word "worker" only used twice. Once in relation to approving free trade agreements - in Obama's Plan - the other in creating special Visa processes for foreign workers here, not for improving your kids' education so they can qualify) Interesting disconnect. Obama says "Dream Act" and Republicans say expedited and simplified Visa program. The word "Jobs" is used 37 times, including in the title...trouble is, no trade, no industry, no service sector is highlighted or targeted except for the special visas for high tech workers and entrepreneurs...and no plan to improve schools so our kids even have schools wired for technology.
No funds for transportation or infrastructure. let the bridge collapse, no problem. Not worried about getting American made goods from point A to point B. Have to question how it is that new free trade agreements would benefit an American manufacturer, or is THEIR version of free trade putting US owned company subsidiaries in new locations outside US borders, further facilitating foereign deposits of income?
Fast track FDA approval for drugs & medical devices. Hmmm....thought CUTTING medical costs was a priority, not getting more product in the pipeline?? Fast track on medical devices & pharma will create jobs?? Vioxx anyone??
"American energy initiative" - no sunshine, no wind, drill & spill it, same old same old.
Sorry folks, this is not a "jobs" plan, this is the Republican platform with an approval of what Obama is asking for in a way that cuts out the middlemen & women known as American workers.
HEY BOEHNER!!!!!! Get back to us when you learn what a bill looks like and spare us the self indulgent wallowing in the legends of your mind, ok??
http://www.gop.gov/indepth/jobs
Backyard talk is to get thru to Boehner supporters. Financially, Boehner, Tea Party and GOP supporters did worse damage than the Sep 11 attackers- they caused a multi-trillion-dollar stock market crash, which cut down everybody's retirement savings, caused unemployment and dragged down the housing market. What they did in July they want to duplicate in Sep!! They want to exceed the Islamic terrorists' caused financial losses to Americans and blame it on the current administration.
AP GFK poll showed country down on Boehner, Tea Party and GOP. They caused the loss of S&P's AAA rating. And it will take many years to regain that. And also Pew Research, USA Today/Gallup Poll, NYT/CBS poll, CNN/ORC poll, Rasmussen poll, Conference Board, blamed B, TP and GOP.
As a sample of national disapproval, San Jose, Calif Mercury News Jul 31 front page headline said, "Disgusting Display in D.C.", Sep 14 Editorial headline is "Anti-Tax Dogma Prevents Action On Economy". Tape their mouths shut -- that's how trillions in losses causing impoverishment to Americans can be reversed!!
I surely Hope Obama pulls the same dumb stupid mistake he did in earlier in the week in South Carolina where the owner of the Company only hired 17 people here in the United States over ten years but exported over 75 jobs to his Costa Rica factory...It also turns out that he made a $1000+ donation to the Obama Campaign and that is only the amount release to the public....Yes a real prime example of Demoncrat Company Owners hiring out of the Country employees...Don't you just love how Demoncrats support America.....
Oh I love it when the truth finally comes out,,,Oh I'm sorry,,,You Liberals who post here didn't know about this did you??? That is because you had to go to a more creditable website to read the true story not the Obama Fantasy and propaganda story you read and enjoy so much here....
Mr. President are you trying to make this clown cry?
We sit in the break room here at the plant and read the Republican rants and laugh our a,sses off.By the way we are of both partys
No, Obama is not the worst president by a long shot The worst was Nixon, who had to quit to avoid being thrown out. The man a lifetime of hatred and paranoia built up and should never have been given any power at all. He never ran an honest campaign, and would never have run with Ike if Ike had not been committed by an arrangement where Nixon helped to control the California delegation at 1952 convention. The same deal put Earl Warren on th Supreme Court.
What we find so ironic is so much ignroant and Stupidity in this Country, here we have a President trying to save lives all we see is stupidity, Oh yes, you People mention VA, didn't care for President Obama Speech you know the people could have fooled the hell out of us, but that's Ok it's Comming up again VA was brought to they Knees once before, it's coming up again because all we see is hate, GOD have away of dealing with that too and he don't have to raise his and Nither do President Obama since you people can brag about his Poll numbers going down, some time the innocent will have to pay for what the guilty does.
The Reason President Obama going back to Ohio, the Bridges where the Ohio River, connects to Indiana and KY in parts have been closed down Cracks found in the Steel Beans that support the Bridges, Irene caused a lot of the damage also, the President is not Playing games in KY people want him to see what's happen to they Bridges, can anyone Amaging, getting one Morning finding that one of these Bridges have Collapse, over 80,000 people travel these Bridges Daily, the question is what if, if the People to ignorant and stupid to care about their lives then it's the President Job, because there might be some of them asking for the President Help, while Mitt MCconnell have so much deep Racist Hate for the President, he Rather Put Thousands of Men, Women and Children lives in Danger then to work with the President, so President Have to be the Adult to Prevent Disasters that could cost many of lives. the People in these three states know these Bridges need fixing, we read where it will take Six Mos. to be fixed. if these Bridges Collapse today or tomorrow, Guess who they would Blame and you people that's making these Negative Comments now, the President shouldn't have to be dealing with so much ignorant when he's trying to Prevent a Disaster and save Lives. FOR EXAMPLE ALL THE PEOPLE HAVE TO DO IS LOOK AT VT. it's ok to be ignorant you can correct, but to be down right stupid that can't be fixed. The President is going into the Fiery Furance next week, we hope nothing happen to the President in States like KY and some in OHIO. We say to VA, to all the Hate Mongers, when the President trying to help your State and you attack him, we remember when VA was almost wiped of the Earth it's coming up again, just wait a while, we say the Victory goes to President Obama because he's doing what he Promises, and you people have so much hate you attack him when he's trying to save your sorry Butts.
Even with passage of the bill, according to the article, the out of work construction labor will get mighty hungry between now and 2015 when this bridge is scheduled to be repaired/rebuilt....what are they supposed to do in the interim? By my account that is waiting for three years longer without work...haven't most of them done that already for the first three years of our administration? Doesn't seem like good value for the money, and when the article closes with the statement that the whole thing is still under review.....well, I wouldn't count my construction jobs anytime in the near future.
