Obama agenda: Stuck at 9% for the rest of the year?

“President Barack Obama will be running for re-election next year with the unemployment rate likely stuck at 9 percent and the recovery still getting its footing, his budget office forecast yesterday,” Bloomberg writes.

“The scheduling snafu that pitted President Obama against House Speaker John Boehner could have another, unintended victim,” The Hill writes. “The Wounded Warriors are scheduled to face-off against lawmakers and their staff in a charity ice hockey game next Thursday, the same night that the president agreed to give his jobs speech before a joint session of Congress. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. (EST) at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va.”

The wheels are off the wagon…..

Morning Joe was classic this morning. 60 Minutes liberal lefty Leslie Stahl was on and actually debunked the big lie about Obama inheriting the worst economy since the great depression saying what Ronald Reagan had to deal with was far worse.

The panel continued on how Reagan faced with the same type of partisan angst as there is today was able to build a partnership with Tip O’Neil that Jimmy Carter couldn’t work out. And how Reagan never lost the country’s confidence unlike Obama.

It was remarkable TV as everyone agreed that Obama wouldn’t qualify as Reagan shoe shine boy.

The following segment “What would Hillary do?” dealt with what I’ve been saying for weeks that the democrats picked the wrong pony. They talked about how Obama squandered a filibuster proof senate and that Hillary never would have just handed over the keys to Pelosi to screw everything up.

It was priceless…..poor Obama – on his own network. You usually have to switch over to FOX for such honest commentary.

The difference you're not saying here is that Democrats will put country first which Reagan had going for him.

Obama is stuck with a bunch of "my way or the highway" Republicans that could care less about the American people.

Their only stated goal is to is to make the President a one term President while screwing up America in the process.

either bam bam is the most incompetent man to occupy the office, or he is a genius who has accomplished almost everything he set out to do.

the liberal cancer must be removed from DC. this we shall do, and restore the Republic.

The big difference is even Reagen collected taxes, even raised them a few times. Plus he sure was not bashful about spending vast sums in the private sector for weapons systems, he outspent Russia which helped collapse the USSR, and gave us a great start on the debt problem we have today. Today the Tea Party would be calling for Reagen's head on a platter.

Reagan understood how to get an economy moving, slashing the upper tax rate and removing government regulations to allow business to operate and expand freely. He also embraced the business community and worked with them. Obama is doing the total opposite. Reagan was also a very strong leader, Obama is not. You can compare the results, Reagan created an environment of massive growth and prosperity, Obama has created an environment of no growth and loss of wealth and not much hope. Reagan was by no means perfect, but is arguably one of the best presidents in history, Obama will be arguably one of the worst.

Isn't it funny the tea people GOP republicans have to go back 30 years to find a republican they can brag on. And the really funny thing is, Regan would be kicked out of the tea people GOP republican party today.

Hey tea baggers, Regan raised taxes 7 times.

Means they don't think much of the Bush's. But they want to put a Bush III (Perry) back in the White House.

"Debt, Downgrade, Delay" has defined the Republican congressional strategy. Republican Leader McConnell has espoused said strategy and crowed it to the press many times over the last 30 months.
Despite that, Barack Obama prevented a full-on Depression.

Despite the Republican party's mission to crash the economy & despite their relentless message of doubt, disdain, denigration and despair: Democrats continue to work to create a good future for ALL Americans.

To all Americans: END THE GOP WAR ON JOBS.

END THE GOP WAR ON OUR RECOVERY.

Mo, not being part of the Tea-party, I can't speak to your assumption that Reagan would have been kicked out, maybe he would have, but as an Independent voter that lived through the 70's and 80's and now today, I can say the majority of independent voters would get behind another Reagan type president. Reducing tax rates across the board as he did, and closing some loopholes benefited everybody. The big thing was getting government out of the way of business to allow them to operate and prosper without any interference. Did he reduce the size of government? no, did he get government out of the way of the private sector and provide a business friendly environment? Yes. Did we see one of the greatest periods of prosperity in our history? Yes. I would gladly take him now over what we have.

President Reagan and his administration did plenty of unsavory things, but mostly President Reagan was an actor/president -- a front man for people who gave him a script and ran the show from behind the scenes. After the Iran-Contra fiasco was made public and President Reagan kept saying "I do not recall.." there were two interpretations: 1) he was getting senile OR 2) he was kept out of the loop. President Reagan also was the first to use the resentment of blue collar workers as a wedge -- those Reagan Democrats -- He didn't find them jobs or better jobs but he made them feel that it was okay to be resentful and lash out at government programs. The tea party of today probably has a lot of those "Reagan Democrats."

Your kidding Va Ind. I also lived though the 70's 80's and now today. Do you remember the savings and loan crash of the 80's? Unemployment high, a recession, people losing their homes to foreclosure. Yea it was a great time. It took Clinton to clean up the mess Reagan and Bush I made.

BTW: Reagan didn't reduce tax rates. He increased them on the average tax payer. I know you republicans don't like to call raising fees tax increases but that is exactly what hey are. I voted for Reagan, but he wasn't the hero you republicans make him out to be. Remember it was Reagan that started the trickle down economics, by as you call it reducing the tax rates on the rich not across the board. My taxes went up in the 80's not down. We had to pay for the savings and loan bailouts under Reagan. I will give you this, under Reagan the savings and loan executives did have to pay for their crimes, they were either arrested and charged with crimes and jailed, lost their cushy jobs or made to pay a huge fine. That is something the Reagan administration did right.

Mo, as usual, you have selected memory. From 1983 to 1990, GDP growth was 4.1 percent annually. and Employment growth 19.9 million jobs. From 1991 to 1999, GDP growth was 3.3 percent annually and employment growth was 16.4 million jobs. So yea, Clinton reversed the Reagan policies. He reduced GDP growth and created less jobs. Great......

Ah yes, but Reagan was President from 1981-89, so let's look at those years, Va.

      #1.14 - Fri Sep 2, 2011 12:53 PM EDT

And Clinton didn't become President until 1993. Seams like Va Ind only selects years that suit his ideology. You're using 2 years of the Bush I years for Clinton, and ignoring the first two years of Reagan.

What about the savings and loan crash Va Ind? No comment on that?

Believe me I lived through that time 1981 to 1989. It took Bush I to raise taxes in his term to start turning around what Reagan had done to the economy. It was not a great time for America. As much as you tea people GOP republicans would like for everyone to think.

I don’t expect Obama’s speech next week will offer any solutions, nothing he has promised to date has worked. Case in point:

President Obama's "sunshot" initiative–his proposal to dump taxpayers' dollars into alternative energy projects with the goal of creating green jobs. It has failed, by all accounts. Even The New York Times reported that the President's promise to create 5 million green jobs over 10 years has proven to be nothing more than "a pipe dream." And this week, California-based solar panel manufacturer Solylandra went bankrupt despite receiving a $535 million taxpayer-funded loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy. End result? About 1,100 people out of work. But during his jobs tour across the Midwest, the President continued speaking of the promise of the green economy.

There's another old idea being bandied about, too–infrastructure spending. Remember the President's $780 billion stimulus, which included infrastructure spending on “shovel ready projects” all across the fruited plain? Despite the government infusion of cash into the economy, no jobs were created in August. As the President joked, "Shovel-ready was not as ... uh .. shovel-ready as we expected."

Yet an "infrastructure bank" rumored to be endowed with up to $30 billion, appears to be a central component of the President's jobs plan next week, and more spending on building roads and bridges is one of Big Labor's favorite subjects, too. AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka this week called for American to spend $400 billion a year over 10 years on public works projects--and that money, conveniently, would directly benefit his union membership at the expense of the U.S. economy. Whether we need additional government spending on infrastructure is a debate unto itself. What is clear is that $30 billion spent over some number of years in an economy 500 times greater cannot make much difference.

The two-and-a-half-year Keynesian experiment of flooding the economy with taxpayer dollars has failed, yet the President and his union allies continue to peddle the myth that the only way to save the economy is to spend more. There's another way to go: freeing America's small businesses from the day-to-day shackles of existing over-regulation, freeing families and entrepreneurs of the threat of higher taxes, and cutting spending to eliminate the constraining fear of America's debt crisis. Zero job growth does not have to be America's reality, but changing course will mean ditching the dream that more government spending will save the day.

Mr. Obama said my plan will never allow unemployment to get to 8%. Now it's going to be 9.1% until 2012 election.

No new jobs created in Aug. and the July report has now been adjusted and cut in half.

Avg. of 40,000 new jobd per month for last 4 months. At that rate it would take almost 14 years to get back all the jobs lost in the recession. That's just the break even point.

Govt. jobs down 71,000 in July and down 17,000 in Aug. ....Govt. jobs.

Media has decided along with their Republican Friends it seems that It's The Presendent's Job to Creat Jobs and his full and complete Responsibility.

John Boehner is tweeting this morning "Where Are The Jobs?"

John Boehner and his Republican friends were tweeting "Where Are The Jobs" prior to the 2010 Election and continue to do so. So Mr. Boehner and his Republican House and Party are admitting that they have Absolutely No Responsibility for helping to Fix this Economy and to Get Jobs

John Boehner, Eric Cantor and their Republican Friends are admitting they have Absolutely No Responsibility for Doing any Work on Behalf of the American People in Congress

John Boehner & Eric Cantor, Mitch McConnell and their Republican Congress are admitting that they have Absolute No Intention Of Helping the Congress and the President to Creat Jobs

John Boehner, Eric Cantor, and Mitch McConnell are Admitting that they intend to Just Sit on their "BUTS" in Congress take your Money and Block every attempt of the President and any other who have an interest in Fixing this economy

                                  Question?

Why are the American People Paying John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, Eric Cantor and Company to sit on their "Buts" Bad mouth the President who's at least trying to Fix the Economy, Trash Your Country, Yes, I said it Trash Our Country, Make sure they Block to make this country Fail

                                  The Question is why?

                                  The Answer!

To Take Over the WHite House!

America if you let these Republicans John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Mitchell McConnell tell you to you face and they do every day that they will Block everything that come to the congress to help you and your families

If you let these Republicans, John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Mitch Connell tell you that Cutting and Killing Medicare, Killing Social Security, Medicaid, and JOBS will creat Jobs and do nothing but support these folks because we have a Media that jumps on the Band Wagon to Critize this President then you are fully responsibility for what happens to your own Families' Life from this point forward which includes what the Republicans have done since getting elected

                                  Republicans have

                                  • Introduce Abortion Bills

June, how much is the DNC paying you to spout political talking points?? We should be asking the President "where are the jobs?" He was elected to bring the country together, clean up the so called mess in Washington, rise above the politics, bring the troops home, secure the borders and deal with the already 11 million"illegals" and BRING BACK JOBS. Did Obama come through ?

Leona, how much is the tea people GOP republicans paying you to spout talking points? It was the republicans in 2010 that said they would work on job creation. What jobs legislation have they proposed in 8 months? Oh that's right cut taxes on the rich so it will trickle down. Did the tea people GOP republicans come through?

Mo, The repubs are in control of only ONE branch of the govt. They can NOT do anything without Democrats support. Learn the facts. BTW, are you happy with Obama's record? This country is going steadily DOWN. Does Obama's record feel so good that you are willing to go ANOTHER 4 YEARS with this kind of leadership? Would you have stayed on the Titanic too or gotten in the life raft?

Hey Charolet92, There are 3 branches of govt., first of all, not 2 ( the House, the Senate, the President) . Besides, why wouldn't the Repubs BLOCK everything the Dems and the President want when THEY ARE FAILING POLICIES ?! Did the $780 biliion "stimulus" work? Does Obamacare work? Are "green" jobs bringing the unemployment rate down ?? Do open borders work? I could go on, but I wont. Some people dont get it even after 3 years of FAILURE.

To answer your questions Leona. Yes I am happy with the Presidents record. Yes I am willing to go another 4 years with this leadership. I would have waited and let the women and children get on the life rafts first, unlike you tea people GOP republicans who would have pushed a child aside to get on the life raft first.

The tea people GOP republicans control the congress Leona. What jobs legislation have they passed besides cutting taxes for the rich and let it trickle down? You're not answering the question honestly, you're making excuses for their incompetence.

Which countries are you thinking of, Leona? If you really want to know who brought our country down, you might think of Osama Bin Laden -- he masterminded and funded the attack against the Western infidels in 2001 and he succeeded We have spent 10 years trying to root out his organization, two wars, more than 4,000 lives lost and many other wounded, along with countless civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. We borrowed money to carry out this mission because we were too soft to make sacrifices, and in the process we have gone deeply into debt and have ruined the nation's economy. Do you think President Bush might have reacted differently to prevent this? If so, how? If not, then how could President Obama change what President Bush could not?

Mo, "tea people" only have one agenda and it's to BRING DOWN DEBT for future generations. The business sector is telling Obama that they won't hire until he loosens regulations, repeal Obamacare, get the EPA to undo some restrictions and lower the corporate tax rate ( revamp the tax system/do away with loopholes). If Obama would follow through and heed what the private sector business people ( who do the hiring in this country) are saying, things would improve. "Tea people" , as you call them, want what is best for this country and they want to see JOBS created. Obama has been anti-JOBS. (Did you forget, that he spent almost 2 years creating Obamacare?)

You're wrong again Leona. Tea people GOP republicans one and only agenda is to make President Obama a one term President, regardless of how bad it brings down America. They have stated so over and over again. Listen to what tea people say Leona, not their for media talking points, which you have so completely used in your post above.

And what have the tea people GOP republicans spent the last 8 months doing Leona? Oh yea, they've spent their time on abortion, trying to strip unions of their rights, fabricating a debt crisis over raising the debt limit, anything to try to distract us from creating jobs, which they don't have a clue what to do.

Obama and his Socialist cohorts will not do anything for the American people, except create a "nanny state." Wake up and notice the 9.2% UNEMPLOYMENT under the Obama administration. The facts speak louder than I can.

Too many folks out of work or afraid of being out of work. Even the New York and Hollywood media can't help him that much out here in"fly over country" anymore. Young folks recently out of college who idealistically voted Democrat on the last go around are still looking for work. Not too many "green jobs" to be found. It seems that issues besides the poor economy will be secondary in most voters minds. Time to focus on the Republican primaries to see who will be the next leader of this nation.

The real answear of course is to start making things in America again, Obama has failed, will the GOP do any better?

The real answear of course is to start making things in America again, Obama has failed, will the GOP do any better?

To answer your question first Guns, no the tea people GOP republicans have proved they would make things worse.

Good luck focusing on the tea people GOP republican primaries, with the field you've got to choose from. Will it be Bauchmann, Perry, Romney, Cain, Gingrich. With that field you'll need all the Guns'n Religion you can muster. I know with that field to choose from I'd have to use my religion to pray that I shoot myself with my gun.

                                                                        Reply#12 - Fri Sep 2, 2011 1:13 PM EDT

Obama needs the independent voters and the fiscal conservative democrats to win, and that is who he is now trying to please and cater to. Obama knows he already has the social liberal vote, and the minority vote, so he really don't have to pander to his hard core base, there have no where to go since they are to dependent on government to think for them and to provide for them.

Between the center left,Independents, and center right you are looking at 70% of the voters. I'm no genius but close to the center is your best bet, problem is we've already seen this tactic.

America needs to wake up and vote Obama OUT.

                                                                                  #13.2 - Fri Sep 2, 2011 3:35 PM EDT

Good analysis sfcret. It always cracks me up when I hear reports that Mr. Obama will loose his "Left-wing base". Where are they going to go? Yes, Obama has a chance if he can appear to be a centerist. It worked for Bill Clinton, but he actually went to the center. It also worked for Obama in the election, but he was largely a blank slate then; but now he has a record to run on, the sledding could be a little tougher.
