Inhofe: Perry's 'the one'

TULSA, Okla. -- Sen. Jim Inhofe knew Gov. Rick Perry was running for president before Rick Perry did.

"I said to him, 'Rick, I know you'll deny it now, and you're supposed to, but you're going to end up running," Inhofe recalls from a conversation with 14 months ago. "And when you are, just call me up and give me a little advance notice and I will do whatever you think I can do to be of some help to you.'"

Inhofe, who yesterday became the first United States senator to formally endorse a candidate the 2012 GOP primary, told NBC News during an interview in his Tulsa office that Perry's gubernatorial experience, personal profile, and good looks made him a shoo-in to run even when the Texas governor seemed certain to turn down supporters begging him to jump in.

Naming his criteria for a Republican nominee -- electability and consistent conservative values -- Inhofe said the choice among the contenders was easy. "He was the one," Inhofe said.

The Oklahoma Republican, who is one of the leading skeptics of human beings contributing to climate change, is also supporting Perry because of the governor's pledge to dismantle EPA regulations that both believe stifle job creation.

"He was willing to take on the sacred cows," Inhofe said, "and that is the overregulation" by the Environmental Protection Agency. "He wasn't afraid of it. Everyone else was afraid of it."

He added that the nation is turning away from the belief that climate change is man-made and must be regulated. "I think there's been a wakeup call to the American people," he said. "I think they realize that a lot of the science has been drummed up by people who have a financial dog in the fight."

That's a belief both men share. Inhofe said in the interview that "the vast majority" of scientists dependent on government grants "go along with the whole idea" of global warming to keep money flowing to their research projects. Perry, at a campaign stop in New Hampshire earlier this month, claimed there are "a substantial number of scientists who have manipulated data so that they will have dollars rolling into their projects."

Perry's skepticism about global warming would lead him to gut federal regulations geared towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which Inhofe says should be a pleasing proposition to deficit hawks.

"He'll attack [the debt] from the regulatory end as much as he will from the spending end," Inhofe said. "I haven't heard anybody else talking about that because they're afraid of the issue."

Perry would also support oil and natural-gas production in areas of the United States that are currently closed to drillers, Inhofe said.

"The fact that 83 percent of our public land is off limits is ludicrous," Inhofe said. "We can't sit around and talk about how we want to do something about our dependency on the Middle East and not go ahead and get our own stuff. That's what he wants to do."

Inhofe, who endorsed early-conservative-darling-turned-flameout Fred Thompson during the last presidential cycle, sees one key difference between Thompson and Perry.

"Fred's lazy," Inhofe said. "And this guy's not lazy; he works all the time."

Keep it straight. It's how we know you all are losing. Not the merits, just baseless personal attacks.

What is crazy is the polls - you got the loved and respected incumbent, Mr. Hope and Change himself at 38% in a deadheat with some crazy guy from Texas.

What's that about?

But, Inhofe......You're the one! per wikipe

Taxpayer-funded travel

Inhofe has made multiple foreign trips, especially to Africa, on missions that he described as "a Jesus thing" and that were paid for by the U.S. government. He has used these trips for activities on behalf of The Fellowship, a Christian organization.[11] Inhofe has said that his trips included some governmental work but also involved "the political philosophy of Jesus, something that had been put together by Doug [Coe, the leader of The Fellowship]...It's all scripturally based." Inhofe used his access as a Senator to pursue religious goals"

"a Jesus thing"?

Teapublicans say (derisively) that President Obama is The One!...and He's still the one!

"Spanky, is not Inhofe the one that landed a plane on a runway under construction? How smart is that! Boy do you know how to pick'em.......right out of your butt."

Yes- it was Inhofe, and the guy with him was Perry. Inhofe had to hit the runway at a really steep aproach angle, and really slam on the old brakes and hit the spoilers, and I mean RIGHT NOW! When they stopped, Inhofe said "damn, Rick- that's the shortest runway I've ever had to land on". To which Perry replied, looking first out the left window, then the right window: "...yeah, but just look how WIDE that sucker is!"

Hide and watch Drive By?

Naa, we got a big speech coming in just a few days.

I don't suppose you'd care to prognosticate on how it will be received?

I suspect that it will be panned in general due to the lack of specifics provided. I suspect it will be hated on the left for not going anywhere near far enough.

I suspect that it will go over a just another speech on the right, but used as a tool to poke Obama [again mostly for lack of specifics and/or vision] and used a a tool to highlight that he has no original ideas regarding job creation.

And you Drive By, will it in fact be "the best speech since the last speech" or will it in fact be the be all, end all cure to what ails the country?

Will this be Obama putting it to the republicans, throwing down the gauntlet, or more concessions to conservative ideas?

Tax cuts, tax holidays and more of those good old tax "subsidies" you all love so much. Oh and don't forget about the regs - he's going to talk up cutting back on the regulations and reigning in the EPA.

Your turn my man.

Ah. I see. What I would love is to be a little mouse in Imhofe's pocket as he delivers the bad news to the other ten or so Republican wannabes who think THEY are "the one."

For example, to Michele Bachmann:

"Now, Michele, honey ... don't be disappointed that God didn't pick you, even though you changed churches and everything. Remember that it's a woman's lot to submit. Now get back to the kitchen and bake us some nice fresh cookies, okay, dearie?"

I'd pay good money to see that.

All that distasteful IRS infiltrating -- not to mention being married to Marcus -- for nothing.

Hearing liberals using the words like "dumb, stupid, moron, uneducated, idiot, cowboy" is music to our ears. They confirm the candidate they would least want to run against. We heard the same words used to describe two double-term presidents, Reagan and Bush. What scares the libs most is after four years of Obama, just about any right-wing person can win easily in light of his 38% approval rating, 9% unemployment and $4 trillion debt in three years.

With fine Republican Senators like Mr. Inhofe, landing at construction sites may be the only place they can land, with the current FAA funding bill set to expire (for the 4th time) yet again because Republicans keep trying to add policy issues to funding bills. If the Republicans want to bring up policy laws, bring them up and vote on them by themselves. I say the same to Democrats.

Most states have a seperation of policy from spending bills for just this reason.

A new poll by CNN and ORC International finds that 27 percent of Democrats would like to see their party nominate a candidate other than Barack Obama for president in 2012.

In response to the question, “Do you think the Democratic party should renominate Barack Obama as the party’s candidate for president in 2012, or do you think the Democratic party should nominate a different candidate for president in 2012?” — 72 percent said they wanted to see Obama renominated. But 27 percent, slightly more than one in every four, said they wanted to see Democrats nominate a different candidate. One percent had no opinion.

Whether those disaffected Democrats will come around to supporting Obama next year is an open question — and perhaps the most worrying of the president’s re-election bid.

Looks like there will be a change in administraion come 2012! Very exciting times! The obama machine will kick into attack mode soon, as they can't very well defend his record....!

Why? Economic relief from Irene could create jobs for clean up. That would wreak the T-Potty/GOP plan. Have we had enough wreckage?

Despite the devastation caused by Hurricane Irene this weekend, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) today stood by his call that no more money be allocated for disaster relief unless it is offset by spending cuts elsewhere.

On Saturday, House Appropriations Committee Chairman Harold Rogers (R-Ky.) called on the Senate to quickly pass the House GOP’s version of the annual Homeland Security spending measure, which includes $1 billion in additional money for the disaster fund this year and $2.65 billion for fiscal 2012.
The Obama administration “has let the fund reach critically low levels, putting continued recovery at risk, without a plan for the future or a clear method for dealing with new disasters,” Rogers said.

    That he did Richard.

And yet he cannot fly a plane, which to me is impressive.

But you also highlight a very good point - as to the military he is indeed the boss. Now I remember him saying he would end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as rendition and GITMO.

So, that'll be happening anyday now? I know you all like to say those evil repubicans have somehow blocked him closing Gitmo, which may or not be the case, but how about rendition?

But as to the larger point, it sounds like Perry nailed it today when asked it he was a big old Texas dummy - Maybe Obama is smart, but Obama and is Ivy league advisors are super smart, but they sure can't seem to figure out the economy.

I was just looking at some indexes myself. From our GDP to Germany's and elsewhere, we are in a recession. Just no two ways about that. Funny thing is I also recall Obama and Biden telling us the last two summers were "Recovery Summers."

How did they get that so wrong? OR were they lying to us? Either way, not good.

Anyone who willfully rejects hard science is, by definition, an idiot. Perry and Inhofe are examples of such. Looking at presidential candidates, not all Republicans are idiots, but almost all idiots are Republicans. Mitt Romney, Jon Huntsman, and Ron Paul are not idiots and although I don't believe any of them can change things for the better, it's doubtful that they'll be worse than Obama. On the other hand, Bachmann, Palin, and the other right-wing extremists are likely to screw up the country so bad it's permanent and irreversible.

I've typed this so many times I could probably do it in my sleep but once again, for the benefit of the idiots (in this case Spanky) who quote "the polls" as showing Obama behind or neck and neck with ANYBODY on the GOP/TP side, go to realclearpolitics.com and read the compilation of ALL the polls and you will see you are dead wrong. Obama is ahead of every one of them.

What is crazy is the polls - you got the loved and respected incumbent, Mr. Hope and Change himself at 38% in a deadheat with some crazy guy from Texas.

        What's that about?

I'd say it was very bad news ...for the U.S.A.

Didn't former governor Perry advocate Texas seceding from the union a couple of years back? I'm honestly not sure, but I keep hearing references to it.

BTW: One can be both crazy and stupid. I'm not saying Mr. Perry is either. But he is full of it.

        Bachmann? She is certifiable.

No way otherwise. Always against everythig MSNBC paays her to be against. I would bet she is a closet republican that is all about a paychech. Doesn't care about the truth, or God or what is right. Nor does MSNBC. They, Feisty and M are here only to stir up dirt, or that which they want MSNBC users to see as dirt, against anyone who knows what the dems/wrong might help them to reelect the most articulate speeking socialist in the word who can't make a speach without a teleprommter, is hidding his past, like how he got a Fulbright schalorship being an "American" when only foreigners are aloud, Like how he has an SSI# from a state he never lived, etc,. etc., etc.

Watch the collapse by the "community." Maybe they won't because they know that will bring the spotlight bigger upon them.

One more time, the Air Force does not entrust multi-million dollar aircraft to idiots, or is your intelligence level to meek to grasp that?

Perry may not be the brightest light in the chandelier but stupid he is not and at least his educational records are available to the public while the former mainstream media's proclaimed "smartest" President ever academic records remain the most guarded secret on planet earth.

First off...Perry flew C-130's. These are not the planes the air force sticks there cream of the crop on. These are old, rugged airplanes that take a lot of abuse and are extremely easy to fly and recover from mistakes. They do not require the skill a fighter jet or larger cargo jet (C-5 or globe master) would require.

In the era when Perry was in the air force many young men were placed in the cockpits of planes who could simply pass the physical exams and some rudimentary flight training.

Flying a plane is not that difficult - I myself have done it. Why do you think this is some miraculous reason to endorse someone? After all several terrorists 'flew' planes on 09/11/01 and had pilots licences...does that make them eligible for the Republican / Tea Party nomination too?

But Feisty - the democrats endorsed a complete unknown. While I do understand your political position and you hate all things republican, Obama has his records sealed. He's our president for goodness sakes. The American people deserve to know who this man is. His secrecy does not place him in a favorable light. Unfortunately, he won't get away with it this time. Debates are coming and I am positive he won't be getting a free pass this time. Not at a 38% approval rating. I know you hope it will rise, and it might, depending on what befalls the United States... but a wag the dog type scenerio just won't work... there are too many people gunning for him.

Maybe the Democrats say now that they want to dump Obama, but given the choice of voting for Obama or a right wing, evangelistic, radical like Perry will change their minds. I'm a Democrat and I'd rush to the polls to vote against any Republican candidate I see running right now. The Republicans need a white knight to step forth.

Ugandans could be charged with seven years imprisonment for being gay. They could be forced to undergo treatment to de-gay them.

I have a question to put out to the more conservative readers out there. Is Rick Perry really the first choice? I know he sure isn't mine. I'm not a big fan of Romney either. There has to be someone better out there.

It's not about need. It's about change, something we have not gotten under Obama. Why do you supposed his approval is so low? The independents wanted change, not four more years of Bush. Large number of people who voted for him are saying not two times. Carter gave us Reagan. Obama will give us Perry.

You can only change when the opposition will work WITH you on some level. The Republicans have been obstructionist to everything that Obama has attempted to do for this country. Considering the circumstances of this political theater, we are right where congress has led us.

Would Perry or any other Republican candidate do a better job of leading this country in the 'right' direction? I haven't seen one yet.

That is where liberals/progressives have thing wrong. They think Christians just ignore science which they don't. They just interpret the result of science differently. They don't ignore many of the basic laws of physics and science to come up with theories when convenient. They know that if the laws of probability say that the chances of something happening are 50 billion to one it probably didn't happen. Christians don't agree when some of the basic suppositions which evolutionist need to explain the creation of the universe.

Hardcore Christians generally go with religion whenever there's a contradiction between religion and science. The existence of a supernatural power could be explained by having an advanced alien civilization, but it's not inherently supernatural--just technology we can't understand yet. This is the perfect endorsement of Perry. There are few more far right than Inhofe, you can throw in Demint and the extreme right evangelicals and Perry is the perfect candidate for the GNOP.

Cant you just see them singing at the top of their lungs, 'Onward Teabag Soldiers' as they march him around some convention center, brandishing their bibles, their guns and a copy of the Constitution!

Poor America, where are they taking you?

Like God sent His only Son to earth just so Rick Perry could repeal environmental laws and endorse the teaching of creationism in schools in 2012. These so-called "religious conservatives" sure are full of themselves.

Guns should be allowed, but only for hunting and home defense. If you allow pistols, you might as well allow the full range of military-grade weapons. Why not let people carry assault rifles around?

When you allow an ancient bestseller that clearly harms others to guide your life, there's obviously something wrong.

Because the whole point of the second ammendment is so that US citizens can kill people.

Handguns are solely designed to kill people.

Thus, the founders of the constitution would most definitely love on handguns.

You see, they were willing to trade the blood of their citizens for the guarantee that the citizens would never be conquered by a foreign power. "The tree of liberty must be watered by the blood of patriots" - Madison

It'd totally lock up Texas and Florida.

That would essentially leave no path to victory for Obama.

Your man is just too extreme a radical to survive a national election...In fact, despite how weak a candidate Romney is, Perry is not going to win the nomination. Republicans who can count know he can't even win the states McCain won. Brilliant plan: take Florida with a Republican candidate who calls social security a "ponzi" scheme, wants to dismantle Medicare, wants to have STATE legislatures be able to nominate all judges and Congress overrule the US Supreme Court, wants to junk at least three amendments to the constitution, along with accepted, main-stream science and most absurdly, expect Americans to willingly bend at the knee to theological doctrine over the rule of law? It just isn't going to happen in these United States. You better start looking around for a real candidate. Time is running out.

After the Fred Thompson debacle, Perry might want Inhofe to walk it back a little. Or maybe after Perry goes down in flames, Inhofe will say, "He was a loser anyway".

You liberals keep focusing and ranting about things that do not matter and attack any non-liberals with mis-information and exaggerations. You liberals will never figure it out. As an example, Trump was out to prove he could pull Obama's chain so to speak. Trump was able to pull Obama's chain over the birth certificate thing. Obama did exactly what Trump wanted him to do. Trump was never serious about running for President. Yet you attacked Trump and tried to run him down. Trump just wanted to prove he could get the best of Obama. Obama was concerned enough to cave in to Trump. Trump proved Obama was easy to get to. It doesn't take much to knock liberals off track. It is going to be fun to watch Perry jerk his chain too.

Trump was heard to say how proud he was to be the last straw of stupidity on the broken back of the birther camel.

Tony: You are right about that - Obama is easy to trip up, like any honest man dealing with scoundrels. He keeps trying to be rational, logical, and compromise with the opposition party and believing that they also want what's best for the country, not just their own party. The GOP knows this and uses it against him time after time. The image i always get is Charlie Brown trying to kick the football, while Lucy snatches it away at the last moment, and yet he trusts her to do the right thing if he gives it one more try.

U.S. Senate Minority Report Update: More Than 700 (Previously 650) International Scientists Dissent Over Man-Made Global Warming Claims. (WE ARE HELPING THE PROCESS ALONG)

                                        President Bill Clition:

This is what can be done!!!!!!!! The forecast ten year surpluses stood at $5.6 trillion. It was the last black ink America would see for decades, perhaps forever.

                                        The 42nd President was Bill Clinton (January 20, 1993 - January 20, 2001) Democrat

Bill Clinton reversed Reagan's course, raising taxes on the wealthy, and lowering them for the working and middle classes. This produced the longest sustained economic expansion in American history. Importantly, it also produced budgetary surpluses allowing the government to begin paying down the crippling debt begun under Reagan. In 2000, Clintons last year, the surplus amounted to $236 billion. The forecast ten year surpluses stood at $5.6 trillion. It was the last black ink America would see for decades, perhaps forever.

                                        Ronald Reagn:

According to a United States Department of the Treasury non-partisan economic study, the major tax bills enacted under Reagan, as a whole, significantly reduced (~-1% of GDP) government tax receipts.[7] The Economic Recovery Tax Act of 1981 was a massive (~-3% of GDP) decrease in revenues (the largest tax cuts ever enacted)[8] By the end of Reagan's second term the national debt held by the public ballooned from 26 percent of the GDP in 1980 to 41 percent in 1989. By 1988, the debt totaled $2.6 trillion, due in part to both increased military spending at the end of the Cold War and according to some, the tax cuts. The country owed more to foreigners than it was owed, and the United States moved from being the world's largest international creditor to the world's largest debtor nation.[9]

It was Clintons dismantling of the military that emboldened our enemies! Were you cheering for Clinton on 9/11?

Did you really think having a bigger military would have stopped 9/11 from happening? Their target wasn't a well-defended location!

Welcome to the Matrix - I'm sorry but Neo was the one. Perry is just a one hit wonder. I suspect he will win the republican primary and break away from the "wacky pack" but on a national stage people will see the man for who he is - an ideological zealot... I wish him well back in Texas after 2012.

Edited lines from the American President:

I've known The Republican Party for years, and I've been operating under the assumption that the reason they devote so much time and energy to shouting at the rain was that they simply didn't get it. Well, I was wrong. The problem isn't that they don't get it. The Republican party's problem is that they can't sell it! We have serious problems to solve, and we need serious people to solve them. And whatever your particular problem is, I promise you, The Republican Party is not the least bit interested in solving it. They are interested in two things and two things only: making you afraid of it and telling you who's to blame for it. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you win elections. You gather a group of middle-aged, middle-class, middle-income voters (tea baggers) who remember with longing an easier time, and you talk to them about family and American values and character.
