President Obama returns from vacation and Republican candidates raise money in some pretty nice places. But with the hurricane bearing down, which events will be cancelled?
I'm done with politics for the day - but, want to once again let those in Hurricane Irene's path to know you will be in my thoughts this weekend! Please stay safe & if able drop by over the weekend and let us know you're okay!
As always, many thanks to our hardworking hosts; Mark, Domenico, Ali & the rest for keeping FR thee best political blog on the web!
Want to wish Gingerbread Mamma a very Happy Birthday! *hugs*
Since cake & hurricanes bring back bad memories, I made you a Grand Mainer (sp?) torte complete with fresh strawberries, kiwi, blueberries & red raspberries!
Almost forget - about the cancellation of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. ;o(
I saw this on Andrea Mitchell's show yesterday:
Stevie Wonder made a surprise appearance, taking the stage to describe how he was able to “see” the memorial through touch, thanks to Harry Johnson, president and CEO of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Foundation, who made it possible for him to ride a cherry picker to experience the King statue by hand. Wonder announced that he would donate $10,000 per year so that as many other blind people as possible could do the same,
Those who know me - are familiar that I have a special place in my heart for the visually impaired...
Now speaking of Stevie - let's get the party started over at the Dew Drop Inn...
In Honor of the Birthday Girl Gingerbread Mamma:
The Nelson Mandela version of Stevie Wonders 'Happy Birthday':
Apparently there are still some harsh feelings in Wisconsin:
Headline: Locks superglued prior to protests of Governor Walker at local school
MILWAUKEE - Protesters crowded the street outside Messmer Preparatory School in Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood as Governor Walker visited the school Friday to read to children.
The protests came just hours after someone vandalized the school ahead of the Governor's visit.
"Some of these folks super glued our front doors at the prep school," said Br. Bob Smith, OFM, the president of Messmer Catholic Schools, about the school on the corner of North Fratney and East Burleigh Streets.
According to Br. Smith, one protester said " 'Get ready for a riot,' because they were going to disrupt the visit.
Feisty--that torte sounds fabulous---I'm sure you made the no-cal version! Happy Birthday to GBM---see you at the celebration. Heard a rumor that Navy is bringing pizza and I'll buy the first round of (sorry) Hurricanes!
Thanks to Domenico & crew for keeping us up-to-date and providing this forum. We appreciate all your hard work, especially when you've been short-handed. Have a safe weekend.
Sounds like Governor Walkers recall will be happening. The tea party is getting very unpopular in Wisconsin for some strange reason.
You know Joanna, you can only crap on people so much before they get angry. The republican party has been dishing out plenty of crap since the last election.
It is called Karma and Walker is getting his share and with his record he has plenty of Karma left to get.
I'm there Feisty lol, thank you for the good wishes too.
I take this opportunity to thank our hosts who had a tough week too, you kept the columns coming despite the earthquake and being short staffed. Hope you and your families are safe this hurricane weekend. Peace and Blessings to all.
I'm on my way to the DDI for some of that homemade pizza, and like you Feisty, I too like it even for breakfast, warm or cold.
Don't forget the fool who flew his plane into a government building, people sending antrax to government employees and the rise of neo-Nazi and militia groups and most of all Glenn Beck and Fox news.
I don't approve of riots, but I also know you would have to get the people mighty angry to act like that towards such a kind man such as Governor Walker.
I know only the tea party is allowed to act angry and take their country back to something like 1778 when the constitution didn't have a lot of amendments and the blacks were still slaves. Yeah, the good old days.
The progressives are angry and think we should stay in this century the one we live in and not the imaginary one of the smaller government crowd where the rich don't pollute and they still have clean food to eat.
Like I said earlier if you are going to crap on people, at some point they are going to get angry. That is like blaming the rebels, why did they have to get so mad, who just threw Qaddafi out. Karma, you get what you deserve.
Governor Walker worked hard to get as hated as he is today.
"...the malcontent lefties in Wisconsin" -- that's friggin' funny gluing the doors shut. Almost as funny as a sh!t hemorrhage. Happy Birthday Gingerbread Mama! And as I head for a beverage of choice, I wish a good weekend to FR friends (and a bloomin onion to the rest of ya).
I'm done with politics for the day - but, want to once again let those in Hurricane Irene's path to know you will be in my thoughts this weekend! Please stay safe & if able drop by over the weekend and let us know you're okay!
Nasty, do your kind sentiments extend to "RWNJ's" or "teabaggers" or "Gov. Krispy Kreme" or no jo, or JoAnna or Spanky??
BTW, I'm okay and will continue to be okay because I'm prepared to ride out the storm on my own, without the federal govts "help". In fact, there is nothing I enjoy more than an extreme weather event like a great thunderstorm or a blizzard or a hurricane. It's all about the prep and being self reliant and independent and taking care of the neighbors if they need it. American values in very short supply today.
Spanky: considering that the downgrade was due to the inability of the TeaPublican House to do anything until the very last day and deciding to hold the full faith and credit of the United States hostage to their pledge to Grover Norquist.. do you really want to go there ?
Mainly it gets worse Spanky because the republicans in congress are doing everything they can to make our country fail.
Somehow it is more self satisfying to you to blame President Obama when it is the republicans utter devotion to the rich over country that is the real problem.
We are all well aware until the republicans raise taxes on the richest they are totally unconcerned about the debt or jobs or the economy.
So if you are really concerned Spanky, you should call you congress person and tell him to raise taxes on the richest and while he is at it close some of those tax loopholes. Tell him that our country needs more revenue to get it moving again so we can invest in American infrastructure.
Ok Americans First earlier you were talking about the "subsidies" given to big oil. Why don't you tell me what you propose to do to stop those "subsidies." Start with what "subsidies" you are specifically talking about.
I see two possible ways. One would cause immediate layoffs. The other would run afoul of the Equal Protection Clause.
So tell me how you see going about it. See, you keep talking about taxes, but you don't know anything about the tax system, why it is written the way it is or even WHO wrote it. So other than gross generalities, you have nothing to say.
Tell me about which "loopholes" you think should be closed. Cause I have to tell you AF - I don't think you have a clue. In fact I suspect you don't even know what a "loophole" is, as compared to a deduction, exemption, a credit or any of the other mechinisms in the IRC that allow one to calculate taxes owed.
So here is your chance AF - prove me wrong, cause brother I would love to have a meaningful conversation about tax codes, loophole and the actual taxes the rich and businesse3s pay.
[So here is your chance AF - prove me wrong, cause brother I would love to have a meaningful conversation about tax codes, loophole and the actual taxes the rich and businesse3s pay.]
Ohhh...there you go with the tax code dealie again...will miracles never cease?
Spanky anything to change the subject about raising taxes for richest.
I know the rich have had tax cuts for 10 years and have amassed huge sums of money while America was getting the bill and the republicans getting the donations.
While I may not be a tax expert you know as well as I do the rich have more deductions and pay less (smaller percentage) tax than the poor.
Personal example I was a self employed seamstress and owned and rented out the other half of a duplex. The seamstress money I had to pay an extra self employment tax on. The rental money after being able to deduct down to the last nail for any repairs against the income, no self employment tax. I only claimed the amount as other income.
Tell me about those poor, poor rich people and how much they pay.
Spanky: I did see the poll numbers. With any luck, there will be a wholesale cleaning in DC about 15 months from now. If people actually do vote with the polls, the only incumbents will be the ones who ran unopposed. 12% Congressional approval. If you stood in line at the bank with 10 other people and asked if you approve of the job congress is doing, the only one saying yes would be the guard telling you which teller to go to.
Seriously AF - you don't understand the relationship between raising taxes and the tax code?
I am asking for you to articulate what specific deductions you think only exist for the rich that you want to end. Cause you can raise rates all you want, but if there are high deductions, exemptions, credits and set-off, it won't matter.
Just look up rates from the 1950's. Really high, yet the amount received by the government was not any higher than it is now. Deductions, exemptions, tax shelters and a bunch of other stuff have changed.
And therein lies the problem, and this is not a slight on you per se. you just don't understand enough to discuss this topic.
Let'stake you oil company "subsidy" claim. The depletion and deprecation codes apply to all business equally. You are asking for the government ot take them away from the top 5 oil companies, correct?
So you got two options. 1. you re-write the code to take those deprecation and depletion provisions away from everyone. The immediate effect will be huge tax increases to all business utilizing those sections, which will result in less jobs, layoffs and downsizing.
Option two is you put a little * in the code that says "the following provisions apply to all companies except Exxon, BP, and the others. Problem is the is this thing called the Equal Protection Clause. The laws must be applied to all equally. It is probably the most important law we got.
The code was written [by dems no less] to foster investment. The government decided it wanted you to buy that duplex and rent it out. Passive income is taxed a a lower rate - which is why Buffet pays a lesser marginal rate than you.
So you see AF - it's hard to have meaningful discussion with you about these subjects. They are very complex, but before you rail against the code, you should try to learn about it.
And I will tell you the same thing I tell others [which always gets the same response] - if it makes you feel any better I guarantee you I pay a hell of a lot more money in taxes than you.
We can discuss the fact that half pay no fed income taxes and how that in and of itself is a failure another day.
It's Friday after all. Summer just got here. It's in the mid 80's.
I've seen this from you a few times today regarding the gdp. You're right it's not on MSNBC's political site. I jumped over to Fox News and it's not on their political site either, but it is on their business site. So have you tried cnbc.com? Because it is a business issue, right?
I guess I am just too dumb to understand your taxey thingies and truthfully couldn't read your post. I actually don't read a lot of your post.
I do know that the bush tax cuts have hurt our country and the inconceivable ideal that these so called fiscal conservatives could start two wars and still not at lease reverse the tax cuts. When they needed to raise taxes to pay for the wars. That is what any fiscal conservative government would have done, that's if republicans were actual fiscal conservatives as they are trying so hard to convince us.
I don't want to talk about the tax code I want to talk about the value of the tax cuts for the rich for America.
This whole tax code thing started with me asking how could the republicans possibly care about the debt, jobs or our economy when they won't raise taxes on the richest?
The Obama tax cuts. The ones signed on 12/10, two years after Bush left office.
You say you don't understand taxes, fine, but surely you get that Obama is doing the very things you rail against republicans for, right AF. It sucks for you, but it is simply the truth.
So let me make this as simple for you as I can - why won't the dems raise taxes? How can they possibly pretend to care, as you say, about all those concerns you have, when they won't raise taxes?
Obama cut taxes in 12/10. They had a super majority before that. did they raise taxes then? Stop the wars? Cut the debt, put out a jobs bill.
Somehow I suspect you are tired now. These are hard questions, especially given what your die has done. But as you said - you asked a question. Problem is you don't understand how deep the rabbit hole goes.
And again - ignorance is easy. Ignorance is bliss. You starting asking the hard questions and you will learn some interesting and dispiriting things.
Other than the lie about the super majority you know he didn't have. Tell me another fairy tale about the poor, poor rich people and how it is unfair for them to pay a fair tax.
We would have to raise every-ones taxes and the whole world will fall apart if we raise taxes on the rich is the gist of every republican poster here. Isn't that the ending you are trying to lead me too if only I was smart enough to see what you see.
Sorry, not buying it, America needs the revenue and I am sure someone could fix that tax code you are so worried about to make it fair just by raising the percentage of tax over a certain income. Like you can't claim a mortgage interest if your total income is over $500,000 a year.
Let's have some real shared sacrifice from everyone not just the working poor and middle class.
Spanky, you have a good steak dinner tonight. Its Friday, worked hard this week. Read all the posts in the evening. Hurricane! Its the topic for the next three days at least. Got all the weather guys on TV.
Suggestion: turn that debt clock you watch all day off for the weekend. It will all be there on Monday and weeks to come.
A. They don't understand the tax code. They have H.R. Block do their taxes.
B. They think the check they get back from the government is a gift from whoever happens to be president at the time.
C. They never, ever look at their paycheck deductions- never mind their W2s. They think their employers are stealing from them, because they aren't getting paid what they were promised.
These are ineducable idiots. They think Obama is doing a good job.
Good on you for having the patience to argue with them.
Me? I save my ire for the cheerleaders who write this blog. They do know better.
Awesome way to avoiding the whole GDP downgrade thing-y.
I guess there is just nothning to see there, eh First Read?
Except vitriol and and obtrusion from a bunch of tea-nuts. The President see that everyday. He can't even go on vacation with out having a bunch of freaks peepin and lying about what they see.
I've got to stay home and batten down the hatches this weekend, but here's a quarter for me for an oldie but goodie from The Serendipity Singers (circa 1964?) - I think it's way down there at G-28:
"Ah-ah, Oh no, Don't let the rain come down,
Ah-ah, Oh no, don't let the rain come down,
Ah-ah, Oh no, Don't let the rain come down.....
My roof's got a hole in it and I might drown.
Oh, yes, my roof's got a hole in it and I might drown!"
Everyone PLEASE stay safe this weekend and come back Monday with a new-found sense that there really are more important things in life than our silly political squabbles.
I thought when I saw 'Serendipity Singers', it was gonna be 'Beans in My Ears', and wondered if Bachmann was gonna make an appearance. Oh well- "Don't let the Rain..." it is. Stay high and dry, JoAnne.
Spanky you can thank the republicans for the downgrade. Your republican friends determined to make America fail. I just don't understand how you can be so proud of America failing?
Republicans made America fail, let elect republicans for even more damage. That what us out here in whole story news land see.
Listening to all that censored news does rot the brain.
[Listening to all that censored news does rot the brain.]
You'd think he'd get it by now...it's just not sinking in...the penny has truly fallen off the tone arm...desperation has gotten the best of ol' Schpanky...*snif*...
AF - are you saying they censor MSNBC? Cause I only watch MSNBC. Big Ed's my favorite, but I suspect he will be shortly eclipsed by the Good Reverend Al.
As to your point about the repubs being the cause of the downgrade, I'd ask you to explain that.
See dems control 2/3 of the gov. Dems had control of the House form 2006 - 2010. Debt when obama took over was $10 trillion [Bush on hook for $5t]. Debt is now approaching $15t, obama on hook for $5t, in just 2 and 1/2 years.
Tea party controls 60 house seats. Progressive Caucus has 80.
House passed a budget. Reid, not so much, and we all know how Obama's was received.
So educate me AF - how is it that I can thank the republicans for the down grade. Oh and tell me - how in the world did we not deserve a downgrade?
In youropinion is it good to have a debt to gdp ration of at or near [or in excess of] 100%?
See dems control 2/3 of the gov. Dems had control of the House form 2006 - 2010. Debt when obama took over was $10 trillion [Bush on hook for $5t]. Debt is now approaching $15t, obama on hook for $5t, in just 2 and 1/2 years.
S & P confirms Republican Brinkmanship Undermined AAA Credit Rating. ‘That a country even has such voices, albeit a minority, is something notable,” he added. “This kind of rhetoric is not common amongst AAA sovereigns.’” [Politico, 8/11/11] Yes, Spanky, 1/3 with the stalling tactics did it; get?
Even Republican Senate leader McConnell said ain't nothing wrong with taking the government hostage.
Republicans are as bad at genetics and history as they are at economics:
The debt ceiling was raised 39 times since 1980. So why did Republicans allow a small portion of the House to stall? It's obvious, they said repeatedly they want Obama to fail; even at the expense of thee whole country.
Bush Administration Adds $4 Trillion To National Debt
"There's another thing the press seems to not get. A lot of African-Americans that I've talked to, most of them say that they 'feel this President has been treated unfairly.' They believe he has done every single thing in his power to try to create jobs, to try to make sure this economy moves forward. He's gone against just fierce opposition. I think, I mean if you look at the evidence, that's true. He's accomplished a lot in the short time he's been President. But the fact is, it has not been easy and will not continue to be easy," Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) said on "Morning Joe" this morning.
This has got to be music to Obama’s ears. To foul up so badly like Obama has done, and still draw that kind of loyalty. My gosh, not to overuse the golf phrases, but talk about a mulligan for the guy. 16% unemployment for AAs nationwide, and he still catches a break like this one. Obama should count his blessings.
JAS1: if true, you gotta give them fingers a rest. Stop by the Dew-Drop-Inn, there's a special on hurricanes *gasp* and dbo & I are pickin' some good songs on the jukebox.
I'm looking at a headline, "Disapproval of Congress at an all time low".
Not 'at a low point', but at an ALL TIME low point. Hmmmm........it's never been this low before. Hmmm..... teabagees in our midst and getting coverage like never before. Gee, Mr Obvious- I never made the connection.
Gee Drive By, not to state the obvious, but this is the first time we have:
1. had a credit downgrade;
2. consistent downward GDP revisions;
3. been at $15 trillion in debt;
4. amassing $3 million per minute in new debt.
Oh and are lead by a president who had the tenacity [or just stupidity] to call the last guy unpatriotic for running up $4 trillion in debt in 8 years, and now he has done that in just 2 and 1/2.
Oh and Obama is also starting t get coverage like he has never gotten before.
Hey, Sniff
First of all, We could care what you think
Here are 2 little spoofs that will make you know why it's music to our ears. Not only is President Obama victory symbolic; but it also is refreshing to have someone in the White House doing something for all people. Unlike the Plutocrats you worship and think people are corporations.
FYI Bev. although your words say you don't care what JAS1 thinks, by directing a post directly to her your actions say the opposite.
Know, as an Obama supporter I understand that you might not get the whole look to the actions not the words, cause god know he has said many things and yet done the exact opposite, but you should at least try to listen to yourself.
Because if you don't even listen to you, why should anyone else?
BTW: Spanky, disagreement does not mean disassociation. Republicans are avoiding Town Hall Meetings like The Plague; unless you pay to play. Why?
Organize for America opened a new office in east Orlando to an overflow crowd. The crowd came in part to hear U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who is also chair of the Democratic National Committee.
Notice there were hardly that many black faces in the room and no where near enough room. The crowd filled OFA’s new second floor suite.
Radio Rwandaplayed a major role in establishing the divide between the Tutsi and Hutu peoples in Africa; just like EXTREME right wing nut jobs and FOX.
Time to call it a week. Please stay safe up there in the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast!!
Spanky...enjoy the Outback dinner...might have to go there for dinner myself now!!
Gingerbread Momma...Happy Birthday!!!! :-)
FR Crew...you guys be safe and hopefully no more earthquakes for you.
Let's see, since I haven't recognized any of the songs listed above [sorry, but I couldn't tell you what decade Patsy Cline was from :-( ], I'll try my own hurricane related songs. An old one I can remember would be "Rock You Like a Hurricane" by the Scorpions from some time in the 80's. Then there would be "Cyclone" by Baby Bash (featuring T-Pain) from a few years ago. That's all I got...it's Friday, my brain is fried, and it's time for Happy Hour!
Read all your posts throughout the week. It is good to see many of you at the DDI. The music is playing. I DO REMEMBER Patsy Cline!! The pizza is hot and the drinks ice cold!!
Good to see you my friends. Happy birthday GM
Politics is way off the radar this weekend, the hurricane is front and center. Hope people are all prepared.
Read all your posts throughout the week. It is good to see many of you at the DDI. The music is playing. I DO REMEMBER Patsy Cline!! The pizza is hot and the drinks ice cold!!
I do too especially crazy. I was stone in love then.
Have a nice weekend and enjoy the pizza and drinks.
Shake rattle & roll huh FR Crew?

Nice people in Wisconsin. Some of the best.
Quit crapping on MY porch smiff - we're having a party and no ham-hocks are invited!
Can someone call housekeeping please?
PS: What UP with the cut & paste job? You've been ranting & raving about them for weeks... lol
They say the full moon will make the flooding worse for the storm.
It also makes the lefties hemorrhoids explode.
Lot'a clean up come Monday.
JoAnnaSmith1
"They say the full moon will make the flooding worse for the storm.
It also makes the lefties hemorrhoids explode."
Neat post, Pork. Keep 'em coming.
Not surprising you're familiar with exploding hemorrhoids - FINALLY - smiffy speaks from experience...
Feisty--that torte sounds fabulous---I'm sure you made the no-cal version! Happy Birthday to GBM---see you at the celebration. Heard a rumor that Navy is bringing pizza and I'll buy the first round of (sorry) Hurricanes!

Aw, look JAS1 Feisty doesn't want you around anymore.
Such a shame, that.
Well at least your little puppy approves, in his own, one joke/same track little way.
But golly Drive By - I love pork. Fact I'm fixing on having some nice Baby Back ribs tonight at Outback.
MMMMM, blooming onion. :)
Who's "Feisty"?
Sounds like Governor Walkers recall will be happening. The tea party is getting very unpopular in Wisconsin for some strange reason.

Thanks for the tid bit on Stevie, Fiesty.
A few 'seeing' folks should close their eyes, and experience the new King Memorial the same way.
And wow, that torte does sound scrumptious! HB GbM!!
Can't wait to do the DDI tonight.
Gotta pocket full of quarters for the jukebox...
I couldn't agree more Richard!
Now what can I get you to drink?
PS: Trust me that torte is to DIE for! I always add a bit more of the Grand Manier then the recipe calls for! ;o)
A shot of Jameson and a Guinness would set me straight.
So, what say we try some new dances tonight?
The Texas Miss Step, The Romney Redact Back Step, The Paul Crawl, The Bachmann Brake...

May you live as long as Nelson Mandela (I think he is 92) and have as much love
Beverly
smiffy...
Um...uh...well...you see...it's like...
...will you be my date for the DDI Hurricane Square Dance tonight?
You're kidding... riiight? lmao
PS: Here's a paper bag - you're gonna need at least one! ;o)
Good thing these keyboards are replaceable, Mickey.
Now, Feisty.
Try to be more tolerant of dissent.
You know full well that Mark Murray wants everyone...even JoAnna (and me, too!) to feel at home at First Read.
"YOUR" porch, Feisty...?
You sound exactly like Clara!
Remember, Feisty?
"I refuse to let them spray their graffiti on OUR house!"
lol
First Read isn't your house OR your porch, Feisty.
Mark Murray says First Read belongs to JoAnna as much as it belongs to you.
Tell her, Mark...!
ROFLMAO!
Geez, Spanky, I know from experience there are better restaurants in San Diego than Outback.
[Geez, Spanky, I know from experience there are better restaurants in San Diego than Outback.]
LOL...big spender, right "counselor"?
Yeah! MY porch MB!
Smiff can take her exploding hemorrhoids and start her own thread instead of leaving her 'problem' on mine!
And if you don't like it too effin bad!
Begone - you nasty little troll!
Are you serious?
Skanky the BIG spender eats at Outback? LMFAO!
I'm sure he uses his coupons too - and then stiffs the server the difference on their tip! :o))))
It's all subjective Jody.
I am a cheap Mexican food and Jack in the box taco kind of guy. Fine dining to me is Claim Jumper.
Ms. Spanky is more of a Morton's, Flemmings, sushi bar kind of person.
Last Friday we went to some super fu-fu new resturant in Del Mar. Great view, decent food, but small portions and very expensive.
You know me - I'm all about the value [or as Ms. Spanky says "Cheapy, McCheap."]
Then again, it's hard to beat home cookin'.
The Mrs. in to that?
[Good thing these keyboards are replaceable, Mickey.]
...note to self...
...self, you owe Richard one keyboard...
Gluing the locks on the doors of school. You think that's anger AF? That's a little more than anger AF.
Now you may sympathize with these malcontents AF, but others might think they're a little over the edge and in need of some serious help.
And AF, what do you think of riots? Part of the electoral process? Not part of the electoral process?
[...will you be my date for the DDI Hurricane Square Dance tonight?]
Smuffs must have me on iggy...
"...c'mon baby...you and me...once you have a man with no legs, you never go back!"
(Eddie Murphy as Billy Ray Valentine, Trading Places)
...Spanky, does Smuffy have me on ignore?
...back to you, Schpanky...
Ms. Spanky has become a total foodie. She didn't used to be, but is a great cook now.
JoAnnaSmith1
And AF, what do you think of riots? Part of the electoral process? Not part of the electoral process?
OKAY Sniff1
What do you think of hanging effigies of President OBAMA, bringing loaded guns to town halls, a SC Tea Party chair joking about killing President OBAMA as well as other waves of hate crimes across American toward African Americans?
http://www.thegrio.com/politics/sc-tea-party-chair-jokes-about-killing-obamas.php
Don't forget the fool who flew his plane into a government building, people sending antrax to government employees and the rise of neo-Nazi and militia groups and most of all Glenn Beck and Fox news.
Bev, stick with the main subject of this thread - i.e., the malcontent lefties in Wisconsin.
You okay with riots Bev?
Hey Bev. - what is that big fancy word you like so much? Starts with an O and means to change the subject.
But hey JAS1 it is late in the day. Bev. must be tired and the meds are likely worn off.
Bummer for the libbies is most of those school budget in Wisc seem to now be magically balanced and the teachers are not facing layoff.
Things are tad different out here. Brown have totally screwed the pooch. Used insane projections in budgets. We brought in a ton less cash last month.
Cali's going down folks. Stand back. Blue Fail. Blue Fail.
Hey JAS1 - you think Cali's failure is cause of bush or the tea party? Kocks or Walker?
Who they blaming for this? Surely not themselves?
Gosh, maybe Dick Cheney?
Bam!
But hey - does anyone else find it odd that Feisty thinks Outback is cheap?
Either she hads never been to an Outback [av. price of a good steak $20+] or she is in fact super rich.
huh?
I don't approve of riots, but I also know you would have to get the people mighty angry to act like that towards such a kind man such as Governor Walker.
Wrong answer AF.
[You okay with riots Bev?]
Smuffy, liar liar pants on fire...
Contrary to how many palm trees Fox "news" showed on the TV machine, THERE WERE NO RIOTS IN WISCONSIN...
___________________________________________________
Nasty, do your kind sentiments extend to "RWNJ's" or "teabaggers" or "Gov. Krispy Kreme" or no jo, or JoAnna or Spanky??
BTW, I'm okay and will continue to be okay because I'm prepared to ride out the storm on my own, without the federal govts "help". In fact, there is nothing I enjoy more than an extreme weather event like a great thunderstorm or a blizzard or a hurricane. It's all about the prep and being self reliant and independent and taking care of the neighbors if they need it. American values in very short supply today.
Awesome way to avoiding the whole GDP downgrade thing-y.
I guess there is just nothning to see there, eh First Read?
Spanky: considering that the downgrade was due to the inability of the TeaPublican House to do anything until the very last day and deciding to hold the full faith and credit of the United States hostage to their pledge to Grover Norquist.. do you really want to go there ?
Let it go S. It was a reassessment that showed a decline of 0.3 percent. How many jobs is that, maybe million? Who cares.
Now we got Obama's Super Important Jobs Speech coming up. Popcorn?
Penny. Tone arm.
Get it?
Yep dirp101, that's why the credit was downgrades.
Never mind the debt totals or ratios. Nothing to see there, and certainly the fact that we are approaching 100% debt to GDP is of little concern.
But yeah, dirp, I most certainly do want to go there. And I am sure you saw today's poll numbers.
Everyday, in every way, it gets a little worse.
Ohhh...there you go with the tax code dealie again...will miracles never cease?
...tick tock, Schpanky...tick tock...
[We can discuss the fact that half pay no fed income taxes and how that in and of itself is a failure another day.]
Yeah, those poor people living at or below the poverty level in this country aren't worthy of discussion today, right "counselor"?
My, you HAVE become insignificant, haven't you...
..mediocrity, Spanky...mediocrity...
dirp101 - I think the best thing that could happen would be to have them all voted out.
It'll never happen, but it would be spectacular.
So Spank,
I've seen this from you a few times today regarding the gdp.
See you next week AF
Okay, nevermind then.
Spanky-
Well - FINALLY the NJ nut job chimes in... where you been sweetheart?
We were missing you - NOT!
Difficulties locating a extension cord?
For the 10th thousand time - what the F**K are you doing here if you find it so miserable?
Contrary to what YOU might believe - NO ONE would miss you if you were gone!
BTW -- how's that lawsuit working out for you honey & that slacker son of yours?
Feisty had NOJO on the brain.
Nojo - I tried with AF - she's clueless, and in fact admitted to it.
She rails against taxes, yet has not understanding of them.
God save the simple. Ignorance is bliss.
Spanky-
Awesome way to avoiding the whole GDP downgrade thing-y.
I guess there is just nothning to see there, eh First Read?
Except vitriol and and obtrusion from a bunch of tea-nuts. The President see that everyday. He can't even go on vacation with out having a bunch of freaks peepin and lying about what they see.
Easy, Bev- Ol' Spaker has the same problem to deal with that No Jo does- the penny came off his tone-arm, and the needle is stuck in the same groove.
(but he DOES put up some neat posts, huh? Hope he keep's 'em coming. Him and that Bob numbers guy... and Smiff)
"k, bartender- I think I need to put a dime on C-6 and hear my 'old gal' Connie: "Everybody's Somebody's Fool".
dbo: don't forget to pick D-17 "Crazy" by Patsy Cline, Ron Paul will be steppin' out in place of Ross Perot.
Drive-by -
I've got to stay home and batten down the hatches this weekend, but here's a quarter for me for an oldie but goodie from The Serendipity Singers (circa 1964?) - I think it's way down there at G-28:
"Ah-ah, Oh no, Don't let the rain come down,
Ah-ah, Oh no, don't let the rain come down,
Ah-ah, Oh no, Don't let the rain come down.....
My roof's got a hole in it and I might drown.
Oh, yes, my roof's got a hole in it and I might drown!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lH8_QYLbaTo
Everyone PLEASE stay safe this weekend and come back Monday with a new-found sense that there really are more important things in life than our silly political squabbles.
Great song, JoAnne. I was going to pick "Stormy Weather". Stay safe.
I thought when I saw 'Serendipity Singers', it was gonna be 'Beans in My Ears', and wondered if Bachmann was gonna make an appearance. Oh well- "Don't let the Rain..." it is. Stay high and dry, JoAnne.
Sorry Bev. but the downgrade is neither vitriol, or obtrusion. In fact it is none of your big fancy words.
It is in fact an objective finding, by the government itself, which of course is why it sets you libbies hair on fire.
Oh and I suspect it might have something to do with the corresponding poll numbers re: Obama's job on the economy.
Drink up my friends and enjoy your time at the DDI. God know you all need the respite.
You'd think he'd get it by now...it's just not sinking in...the penny has truly fallen off the tone arm...desperation has gotten the best of ol' Schpanky...*snif*...
...or is that *smiff*...
Spanky-
See dems control 2/3 of the gov. Dems had control of the House form 2006 - 2010. Debt when obama took over was $10 trillion [Bush on hook for $5t]. Debt is now approaching $15t, obama on hook for $5t, in just 2 and 1/2 years.
Spanky here's the deal. You lie.
The Evidence is Clear:
Republican Recklessness Caused Downgrade
Bush Administration Adds $4 Trillion To National Debt
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-500803_162-4486228-500803.html
Look at it another way; Spanky. Here's graph...

[See dems control 2/3 of the gov. Dems had control of the House form 2006 - 2010.]
And the "super majority" bullcrap rears it's ugly head again, right Spanky?
...mediocrity, my friend...mediocrity...
Back to you...
More good news for Obama:
This has got to be music to Obama’s ears. To foul up so badly like Obama has done, and still draw that kind of loyalty. My gosh, not to overuse the golf phrases, but talk about a mulligan for the guy. 16% unemployment for AAs nationwide, and he still catches a break like this one. Obama should count his blessings.
Real Clear Politics? Saaaay....Is this a 'cut-and-paste'???????
Hey Smiff- nice post, but.....who cares?
Nope. Typed the whole thing in.
JAS1: if true, you gotta give them fingers a rest. Stop by the Dew-Drop-Inn, there's a special on hurricanes *gasp* and dbo & I are pickin' some good songs on the jukebox.
I already got someting by the "SPINNERS" cued up for Pork and Spank. Maybe do a twin-spin, and send one out to No Jo, too!
Drive By - you are such a meanie. I sure am glad my name really isn't Spanky, or muy feeling would be mighty hurt.
Is it really that bad, that you must resort to silly name calling?
Oh, you saw the durable goods report, the GDP downgrade, Obama's declining poll numbers, and the money request from Fannie.
My bad - you have every right to be grumpy.
Go get you a nice strong drink. You deserve it. Cheer leading, like presidentin' is hard.
[Oh, you saw the durable goods report, the GDP downgrade, Obama's declining poll numbers, and the money request from Fannie.]
BWAAK!!
90%+ of the Congress will get re-elected. What's that tell you about that headline Buzz?
Democratic House 2012. Time to Take back America!
(ha, that will drive the rwnjbbers crazy:)
[90%+ of the Congress will get re-elected.]
...the 10% that won't?
...Republicans and Tea Party...but with a track record like thay have, you knew that already, right smiffy?
...your turn, Spanky...
Yeah. What Amy said!
Gee Drive By, not to state the obvious, but this is the first time we have:
1. had a credit downgrade;
2. consistent downward GDP revisions;
3. been at $15 trillion in debt;
4. amassing $3 million per minute in new debt.
Oh and are lead by a president who had the tenacity [or just stupidity] to call the last guy unpatriotic for running up $4 trillion in debt in 8 years, and now he has done that in just 2 and 1/2.
Oh and Obama is also starting t get coverage like he has never gotten before.
Good times, bro, they keep rolling.
You forgot to say "BWAAAK"!

Hey, Sniff
First of all, We could care what you think
Here are 2 little spoofs that will make you know why it's music to our ears. Not only is President Obama victory symbolic; but it also is refreshing to have someone in the White House doing something for all people. Unlike the Plutocrats you worship and think people are corporations.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gODrY3VuJeg&feature=related
Btw: have you done this to your people today?
http://obamadiary.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/romney-corporations-tshirt-gray-hug-180011.jpg?w=541&h=565
Also you can't criticize President OBAMA. He has done as much as other President have done for black people.
FYI Bev. although your words say you don't care what JAS1 thinks, by directing a post directly to her your actions say the opposite.
Know, as an Obama supporter I understand that you might not get the whole look to the actions not the words, cause god know he has said many things and yet done the exact opposite, but you should at least try to listen to yourself.
Because if you don't even listen to you, why should anyone else?
Hey, Sniff
That link seems to be broken you. So AGAIN I repeat: We could care what you think.
Trying it again here are 2 little spoofs that will make you know why it's music to our ears.

@ Spanky
Name a few you can honestly say he has not done. You can start with the LillY Ledbetter Act.
Which is why the right wing nut jobs are working overtime to drive a wedge in the black community!
They already know they can KISS the Hispanic vote good-bye!
I enjoyed the links, Bev!
[FYI Bev. although your words say you don't care what JAS1 thinks, by directing a post directly to her your actions say the opposite.]
My, how insignificant you have become...I guess striving for mediocrity has paid off for you, eh Spanky?
...back to you...
Feisty
Which is why the right wing nut jobs are working overtime to drive a wedge in the black community!
They already know they can KISS the Hispanic vote good-bye!
Feisty, and you know it. They know it too. That's way it's back to basics with these Tea-NUTS. Divide and conquer; "southern strategy style"
It's always looney tune time for the hysterical, CRY BABY, wambulance-chaser; Spanky.
Republicans find ‘the easiest way attack the President is to claim Blacks are attacking the President Obama…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=w8lweIQA2zM
BTW: Spanky, disagreement does not mean disassociation. Republicans are avoiding Town Hall Meetings like The Plague; unless you pay to play. Why?
Organize for America opened a new office in east Orlando to an overflow crowd. The crowd came in part to hear U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who is also chair of the Democratic National Committee.
Notice there were hardly that many black faces in the room and no where near enough room. The crowd filled OFA’s new second floor suite.

SURE, Spanky keep drinking right wing hater-aide
16% unemployment for AAs. What is it again for everyone else?
What was it when Bush was in office?
And now Maxine is getting angry.
Good times.
Funny thing about that. I hwave been listening to Maxine Waters and the Rev. Jesse jackson.
They seem to have a very different opinion on that score.
So Bev., who's hater-aide are they drinking?
It's not clear when it will happen, but what is clear is that it will happen. Soon enough, Rev. Jackson is going to tell someone to "Go to h*ll!".
The very Reverend Jesse Jackson. A man of peace, a man of the cloth.
Naw, more like a call to have his "boys" removed.
You think Jesse is Jealous of Al now that Al's a big tv star?
Spanky-
Funny thing about that. I hwave been listening to Maxine Waters and the Rev. Jesse jackson.
They seem to have a very different opinion on that score.
So Bev., who's hater-aide are they drinking?
None Spanky,
You seem to have a problem with the difference between support and criticism. Has Maxine Waters or Rev. Jackson said we will not support President Obama? Aaaahhh, you can't answer that; can you?
You think Jesse is Jealous of Al now that Al's a big tv star?
No Spanky, I think you are the one who is jealous because your top coo coo, Glenn Beck, lost his job as a big TV Star and hater.
Put your big boy pants on. A lot of the haters may soon be leaving over Radio Rwanda, aka FOX NOISE, especially in view of the fact that old Murdoch is not so forthcoming about his hacking.
Radio Rwanda played a major role in establishing the divide between the Tutsi and Hutu peoples in Africa; just like EXTREME right wing nut jobs and FOX.
Poor Contessa Brewer, She was so pretty. And so dumb.
DDI crew...margarita for me please!
Cheers all! :-)
Cheers back at you Grimey! ;o)
That's alright - she was even before my time!
Have I told you how much I love your youthful optimism? lol
Gee thanks Grimey for making me feel old with all the songs you don't recognize!!
At least please tell me you've heard of Patsy Cline? What a voice she had!
Happy Weekend to you.
Looks as if I'll make it to the DDI party afterall--the new water heater is installed. I'm ready for some of Feisty's torte and Navy's homemade pizza.
Thanks FR hosts for another fine week of politics.
To those in the path of Hurricane Irene, I'll be thinking of you. Stay safe.
Have a nice weekend.

I do too especially crazy. I was stone in love then.
Have a nice weekend and enjoy the pizza and drinks.
Man, I'm hungry let's eat.
Roger THAT GF!
