Rick Perry's busy day

There’s so much Rick Perry, it’s hard to keep up.

This all happened just today in South Carolina during Perry's multiple stops. Perry said he would strip the health-care law by executive order.

He criticized the Obama bus -- even though the eventual GOP nominee would likely get one of their own from the Secret Service. "[H]e had his big ol' bus, his big ol' $1.2 million bus, made in Canada," he said.

He said Obama "has killed more jobs in America than I think any president in the history ... certainly in my lifetime." He said Obama’s economic plan "shouldn’t count on luck" and called him an "excuse maker as Commander-In-Chief."

"The president this week he said that we had reversed the recession, but you know over the last six months we just had a run of bad luck," Perry said. "Um, our economic plan shouldn't count on luck."

He said, "The Obama administration recently referred to food stamps as an economic stimulus. Food stamps are not the solution; they are a symptom of the problem."

And he had a small Texas-centric gaffe, saying, "It has been a whirlwind over the past seven days, as we've moved across Texas. It was awesome.... " The audience corrected him. He said, "I mean, yeah, we covered that much country." And added, "It felt like we were going from El Paso to Beaumont, when, in fact, we were going to New Hampshire to Iowa and back to New Hampshire and then here."

He talked again about evolution, when a woman congratulated him on his comment that evolution was theory. He said, “Well, God is how we got here. God may have done it in the blink of the eye or he may have done it over this long period of time, I don't know. But I know how it got started."

And he again talked about using Predator Drones on the U.S.-Mexico border. This is the second time he’s said this, but the government is already using them for surveillance.

JoAnna, you surprise me -- I had no idea you were such an avid golf fan and follower of the game. How did Rep. Boehner do on the course today? President Bill Clinton? Gov. Kasich? Or are you so blinded by President Obama that he's the only golfer you follow these days? I might gently suggest that you get out on the course and get in a game yourself -- fresh air, some physical activity -- it helps through difficult times.

Ohh, followed by a double on the 10th

Thanks for the reminder sweetie!

Minnesota Public Radio obtained a copy of an invite last week to a Boehner fundraiser scheduled for today at Spring Hill Golf Club. For a mere $1,000, Minnesotans could enjoy the rare pleasure of lunch with the House Speaker. For $10,000, Boehner would even throw in a round of golf.

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCEQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fblogs.citypages.com%2Fblotter%2F2011%2F08%2Fjohn_boehners_golf_fundraiser_michele_bachmann_cravaack_kline_paulsen_spring_hill.php&ei=zc5OTqrGNYi3sQLoztSFBw&usg=AFQjCNGEDIcyC5uyinfFZZ6FcUTJFRqynA

Then there's this classy stunt from the House drunk;

Boehner uses golf balls with Pelosi face for fundraiser

Speaker John Boehner is back in Ohio during this first week of the August congressional recess, and he was holding a fundraiser at the famed Muirfield Village Golf Club on Tuesday.

The golf balls used for the fundraiser had a not-so-flattering pic of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on them, claimed protestors who were picketing the event. You can see one such golf ball here

So how about you kate, given the goings on in the economy today, yesterday and such you good with him kicking back on the golf course, or do you think he should have busted out his big jobs plan?

Any rational reason for him to delay rolling it out?

But you raise a good poit - what's Reid up to? Think he's gotten that budget together yet?

Acutally RV1/Obama Bus One (or whatever) was not bought or ordered by the President or the White House, but by the US Secret Service. They realized DURING the Bush Administration that the major candidates for President would be utilizing the buses, so they wanted to be sure they were secure. Utilizing the buses became popular in the '90's and almost standardized in the 2000's. Now almost every campaign has one. With the requirements needed ot make it secure taking so long to develop, I'm sure this was at least 5 years in the making.

CAN anyone find out what the procurement time frame was on these ?

Since Barack Obama is the President of the United States (and not just some schmuck from Texas or Minnesota who might *heaven forbid* be a nominee) he does get US Secret Service protection whereever he goes. Now I know many TeaPublicans would prefer Barack Obama not have Secret Service protection, but, its actually required that it be offered to the President. I don't even know if he can refuse it.

Yep- just lilke the day GHW Bush went to Indianpolis in the 90's with all the entourage, cargo planes, armoured vehicles, all of it, to plant a small ash tree downtown. THEN, he goes to the convention center a few blocks away, and holds a big GOP fundraiser for some Indiana politicians. Paid for with YOUR tax dollars, because the trip was to 'plant a tree'.

I bet you think Obama invented this kind of thing, don't you?? What are you going to complain about next- he ordered the large coffee instead of the small??

The eventual GOP candidate getting one JUST like Obama's is the new meme that was invented to counter the criticism this wildly extravagant purchase engendered.

The first, lame, argument was that ALL future presidents could use it. When didn't work, they came up with a new talking point.

It's all baloney.

As to the Secret Service buying it- did not take long for Obama to figure out who to blame, did it? You think some Secret Service agents were sitting around one day, just talking, and one said, "wow - what if Obama decides to go on a bus tour of the Midwest at the same time as the Ames straw poll, to try to counter any momentum the republicans build up? Shouldn't we buy a bus, just in case?"

Cause, I'm thinking, nope. Never happened.

Obama wanted a bus, and the Secret Service is in charge of making sure it meets security specs. There are plenty that do- ask Bush. Ask Clinton.

Not good enough for Obama. Maybe he's afraid he'll get cooties from a rented bus?

Anyway, your attempts to deflect the profligate waste of this bus are failing, big time. See, nobody believes any of the hoo haa you guys are tossing in your lame attempt to somehow vindicate this latest debacle of the idiot you call the "smartest guy in the room".

He actually might be, considering the collection of nitwit's he's assembled for his cabinet- but put him in the average kindergarten class, and not only is he the dumbest, he's also the least mature.

Obama wanted a bus, and the Secret Service is in charge of making sure it meets security specs. There are plenty that do- ask Bush. Ask Clinton.

Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan emphasized that the bus wasn't purchased solely for the president and would be used for other dignitaries in the future.

He said the agency has not previously had buses in its fleet and was overdue to get some since it's had to protect politicians traveling by bus for decades.

In the past, the service has had to lease buses and retrofit them for that purpose.

3 to 5 percentage points just got flushed. Ah, the consequences of pandering. Excellent.

Spanky: Maybe you should tell that to Perry. He sort of likes them. He complains about them, but does nothing about them. Talk about Afros in Iowa. Did you ever see the number of Hispanics in Texas? Land of the red necks.

Also, how does Perry, or anyone know for a FACT that God put us all here? My religious teachings tell me and most people who ever spent a second in Church, know that we have FAITH in that God put us here...no one on this green earth knows anything about how we got here for a FACT...it's either based on THEORY [i.e. science] or FAITH [i.e. religion] neither being the same of the other.

I heard some Tx. nut case on the radio say that after the civil war, the north installed their own Governors in the southern states and that some states including TX. passed a law that the leiutenant governor actually ran the state and gov. Perry was only a figurehead. I wonder if there is any truth to it. That would certainly take the responsibility off Perry for anything that happened there.

Perry's playing into his TEA party base. Perry's swipe at the Health Care Law passed by the previous Congress is meaningless as the Legislature has quietly placed avenues for implementation so Texas would not lose medical funding. Perry failed to mention that he graduated in 1972 with a 2.22 GPA in Animal Science. Perry does not have an Economics degree, a Science degree or any other degree. Perry and has become a millionaire on Texas' taxpayers. South Carolina would be sorely mistaken if Perry did win South Carolina as he openly courts the TEA party, which has been linked to the global meltdown and US credit downgrading.

Yesterday I tried the "ignore author" feature. Certainly made my day so much more pleasant. After reading some of the FR articles today, I'm now wondering if Newsvine could figure out a way to add "ignore Perry"??

Good point. What grade did Obama get in economics?

Any evidence he took any classes in that subject at all?

How interesting that we have all of Perry's grades, yet none of Obamas. Huh. THose must be some super awesome grades- so totally huge he just could bear to show anyone ever for fear of making us all feel inferior.

Of course we all know that good grades are often poor predictors of real world success.

Sooo Spanky, if Mr. Obama's grades are low. he isn't qualified in economics. If his grades are high, that's a poor predictor of real world success. Geeze, what a loser troll.

eric: President Obama is in a no-win situation. If he had good grades, then he's an elitist. If he did not, then there would be some who would claim he got into Columbia and Harvard because he's black. Also, they would claim he was a token to the black community when he was made president of the Harvard Law Review. Personally, I don't think that a presidential candidate has to reveal every single aspect of their lives. Frankly, I hope they stop revealing their personal income tax returns. I don't really care.

I live in Texas and the only good roads we have are built with Federal Funds. We have rural communities with no running or unsafe water. We have 500 communities with little or no water because of the drought and what is the Governor doing for them, nothing. Texas only had a spurt in jobs because the gas went to $4.00 a gallon and everyone and his brother got in the oil business. This was definitely not due to Bush, er I mean Perry. This guy has been riding the Republican flood into politics in Texas. He is a do nothing blow heart.

Texas has some of the worse polluted lakes and rivers, we have the most untreated chemical dumps in the nation. He is anti EPA because his corporate supporters will have to pay for 100 years of dumping petroleum and mercury on our lands and in our watershed. Most of our workers make minimum wage and over 25% of Texans have no health insurance and can't afford any.

We have no state income tax in Texas. On one hand it is great not to pay it. But on the other, nothing gets built, repaired or done without US Government funds, a lot from the military based in this state. So coming off with all this bull about doing away with Federal Taxes and making Washington irrelevant is just that "Bull"!

Only the rich will have anything in Texas when that happens.

8 years of George Bush with NO domestic policy and possibly 8 years of another Texan with no respect for government? Let's see, the DOW went down to 6100 pts under George and my 401 K lost 70% before my eyes as Bush summoned the McCain & Obama delegation to Washington during the Automobile industry crisis, crying, "help us, help us! We have no answer for anything, we don't believe in government!" I'm going to PetsMart and trying out dry dog food samples, If your teapartiers get into office, I have a survival alternative, because what I've worked for will vanish.
