NBC's Shawna Thomas reports that the White House just released this photo of the president receiving the national security briefing from counterterrorism adviser John Brennan.
The Barry WH is all about style over substance. Barry got elected because he delivers a great speech and had no visible record beyond being "present" when votes were being taken. His "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" $50,000 a week vacation rental doesn't fit that image and the WH spin-clowns are trying to make it seem like he's really not just another full-of-sh!t pol soaking the taxpayers for all he can while having a good time. Unfortunately, their attempt to defuse the "Grand Vacation" and portray him as a "regular guy" with the Greyhound One stunt backfired big time.
In 2012 he will be forced to speak to his accomplisments. there is no such thing as an incumbent President voting "present" on the economy and I don't think giving a good speech will help.
Feisty - Doesn't matter what photo they use the joanna smiths of the world will say it's satan.
Ron - Agreed. He looks serious too, doesn't he? The fact is that our president has been kickin' dat terrorist azz and people like joanna (agent) smith can't stand it.
I hear Kaddafi is getting ready to leave Tripoli, btw! How long have we been in Afghanistan and Iraq now? Somebody ask Agent Smith that one.
Joe in Albany - The white house may spin but NOBODY spins like Fox News (just ask Rupert and son) and we all know who they work for
**whispering "the republicans"**.
As far as speaking on the economy in 2012 I think the repub's and t-party have given President Obama plenty of ammo considering their "Just say no" policy on anything that may help the economy.
Everyone knows the pub's did it to keep the economy in the crapper so that they could point their fingers at election time. Let the people suffer so the republicans can win at all costs. My god it's so damn obvious. That's just plain old evil and any 5 year old can see it as can this 46 year old independent.
Anna Molly - Golf is not a team sport. It's all about the individual player and to hell with everybody else. Considering Boner's record of partisanship you would think he would be a much better player than even Tiger.
How funny. So why did they opt for a Nat'l Security briefing?
What's the matter little Timmy Geitner too busy?
Bush may have take a lot of vacation, but as far as I can tell he never did so:
1. after getting a major credit downgrade;
2. while unemployment was over 9%;
3. As the stock market crashed down.
Vacations are great, but let's face it there are millions of Americans who never take vacations. SO this has nothing to do with optics. Further many of the applesauce variety would never, ever leave during a crisis. But I do understand that logic will fall on deaf ears around here.
But hey - how about that whole amnesty thing? Only question in 3 or 5 points off the old approval rating?
I'm thinking 5%. The long hot August just keeps getting worse for Obama.
Interesting, absent a major crisis between now and November next year that Obama can exploit in order to rack up political points, his presidency is a dead duck. Obama’s approval ratings are in free fall, sinking to a new record low of 39 per cent in recent days. Every indication shows that Obama is on his way to a landslide defeat in 2012.
Could obama's feared 'Lone Wolf Attack', save his failed Presidency?
chilled:Reportedly, there is a second high tech bus that will be available for use by the Teapublican Presidential nominee!
This was explained yesterday Chilled. Ya'see chilled, candidates, and especially candidates for president, travel by jet these days, it's the newest thing. So one day the candidate is in Cleveland, the next in Miami, then it's off to Dallas. So how is this stupid extra bus the Obama administration bought supposed to keep up with the candidate? If a candidate needs a bus, they lease one in the town they are going, and it's paid for by the campaign, not the taxpayer.
You mean like when 'W' raised the terrorist threat to be so scared you'll @!$%# yourself the weekend before the 2004 election? lol
lol, feisty... you fool, in 2004 Bush's popularity wasn't in the toilet and the country was in a Dodd/Frank induced Real Estate boom! Today Obummer's ratings are dropping faster than a cheap wig and the economy IS in the toilet! Mark fr Lake Tahoe's comments are relevant!
Damn.. I timed out on my place in the que and lunch is over.
Well, everyone have a great weekend. I hope that the idiots in DC can get it together and the economy improves. I think we can all get behind that, right?
I have some libertarian friends who say collaps is unavoidable due to the size of the debt which started growing long ago. Lets hope that is not the case.
M.Fisher, I agree with your friends! The combination of unsustainable debt and miserable leaders in DC could create a 'perfect storm' for an economic collapse! Hope our rookie in the WH has a nice vacation!
Just out of curiosity, why does everyone on the right take such joy, even glee, in pointing out that Obama's poll ratings on the economy are awful. You folks do realize that millions of Americans are suffering because of the bad economy and NEITHER the GOP leadership or the democratic leadership nor the POTUS has been able to develop a plan to correct it. Perhaps the President's plan to be announced after Labor Day will help resolve some of the economic pain.
Perhaps you can have a giggle-gasm over the Congresses 13% approval rating. I'm sure the poor and jobless are thrilled that we have some new post office names.
Rather than taking joy in bad poll ratings for political sake, a little empathy for those affected would be more appropriate.
One last thing, polls are like a balance sheet. They take a picture of a specific moment in time. Not the day before not the day after. Balance sheets like polls can change dramatically over one significant event. I haven't seen the 2012 balance sheet yet...just meaningless projections and conjecture.
Ira: Just out of curiosity, why does everyone on the right take such joy, even glee, in pointing out that Obama's poll ratings on the economy are awful.
It's pointing out the facts Ira. No glee involved. Obama's implementation of Keynesian economics has failed the country, and now the country is taking note with its disapproval of the presidents economic policies.
Ira: Perhaps you can have a giggle-gasm over the Congresses 13% approval rating.
A meaningless number. 90+% of the current members of Congress will be re-elected. What does that tell you about what the 13% approval rating number means?
Ira: . You folks do realize that millions of Americans are suffering because of the bad economy
Ira: The bus was purchased by the Secret Service for use by this President and all future Presidents
Did you see such a great need, especially during these times, for that extravagance? A bus (or two)? Really?
Ira: Sometimes a bus trip IS cheaper than flying. Mass transportation. Going green.
Lets see, the President took AF-1 to a major mid-west airport. The bus probably got there on a transport plane, just like all the other support vehicles. All jets burn Jet A, the bus diesel, the other support vehicles gas. Yeah, that's going green.
JAS1, do you see the need for the Secret Service to continue the 'extravagance' of protection for former Presidents?....." especially during these times"
First, is it just Obama or has the GOP or TP had had any solutions that have worked. Any? Let's see...tax cuts create jobs. Default is a good thing. Job creation...not an original idea from anyone. Did you know that FDR who inherited the Great Depression, after 10 years of trying everything still was facing a 15+% unemployment number in 1941. The war...men going off to war....brought the numbers down and jump started the economy and factory production. Ideas from anyone...it's not just Keynesian economics...that's just not true.
Polls tell me nothing. They tell me that the leadership in Washington on both sides of the aisle suck and better get their heads on straight and do some legislating. The BS needs to end.
You're worried about a bus. The cost of a bus for all Presidents to use. Not a 3 day trip...forever. Perhaps for short trips with reporters rather than a line of limo's 3 blocks long. Local, JoAnn...not cross country. Mass transportation for nearby use. For personal use. Remember the yacht that Presidents were given for personal use. It's a bus...get over it...how much did we spend on the Iraqi war? No complaints there?
It's still about the people, and I blame EVERYONE in DC who have done nothing....zero to improve their lot..
Just out of curiosity, why does everyone on the right take such joy, even glee, in pointing out that Obama's poll ratings on the economy are awful (Ira 1.28)
Perhaps it's because you and the other liberal posters here stubbornly refuse to admit that Obama has failed America - and the polls are merely a validation of that fact! We're just gently reminding you that despite your misguided loyalty to the President.... many, many Americans are disappointed in his record and that is reflected in the polls! Capishe? No one is happy about this... it's just a fact that most posters on this blog choose to ignore!
Tell me what the GOP has done to help America...go back 10 years....give me some examples.
I keep hearing that same refrain...tell me what the GOP has done...
I'm misguided...did you miss the credit write-down...S&P called it a debacle...political instability....
No revenue increases...how do you stimulate demand with cuts only plans...you're taking money OUT of the economy...less to spend...no demand.
No one is happy about this including me...and no, I didn't drink the Kool Aid...but I am smart enough to know there's plenty of blame to go around. You choose to ignore it.
OK, GF, you set this one up. Put down your coffee or whatever libation may be in hand and swallow before reading on. I can't replace your monitor and KB. Oh, what a difference having an "s" makes .....
BUSSERS ....
That word means ...
KISSERS
This is one of my favorites from waaaaayyyy back when, as a newspaper editor in the days of court-ordered schol busing programs.
To "buss" is to plant a kiss - and other forms of the word derive from that infinitive.
The plural of the noun "bus," however is "buses." School busing is one thing - school bussing quite something else, y'see.
So now think on it a minute .... the conservative cranks are BUSSERS .... where do we suggest they plant them kisses, eh?
Ira: They tell me that the leadership in Washington on both sides of the aisle suck and better get their heads on straight and do some legislating.
So now polls do mean something to you.
Ira: You're worried about a bus. The cost of a bus for all Presidents to use. Not a 3 day trip...forever.
The bus is just another example of why the federal government should not get one more dime of taxpayers money. Those in Washington are insulated from the reality that the money they spend is the taxpayers money. The Left keeps saying "Lets send more money to DC!" Why? They'll just waste it on more things we, or they, don't need. And you seem okay with that Ira. Others are not.
No poll has to tell me what is going on in DC.....do you need one?
If you're quarrel with too much spending rests on the purchase of a bus, you should be going insane over the unnecessary trillions spent on a war we were derived and lied into.
Ira: No revenue increases...how do you stimulate demand with cuts only plans...you're taking money OUT of the economy...less to spend...no demand.
Again, you trust the pols in DC to do the right thing with any tax increases, like, pay down the deficit? It won't happen. There is always a "good cause" the pols will come up with to spend that money. Notice I didn't say Republican or Democrat, they'd both spend any extra money they take from the taxpayers. Until those in Congress show they can significantly cut spending, they shouldn't see a single penny in any tax increases.
Ira: If you're quarrel with too much spending rests on the purchase of a bus, you should be going insane over the unnecessary trillions spent on a war we were derived and lied into.
Back to the talking points. And who is the CiC? And who escalated the war in Afghanistan? And who started a war in Libya? And who is saber-rattling in Syria? And who could end the wars with his signature?
So why hasn't Obama ended all these wars, but instead has started some more? Nobel Peace Prize, right?
Ira - I suppose you can't recall the amount of angst any conservative had during Bush's last term. The liberals were all rabid and it was a daily barrage of Bushism's. There was no let up. Every day, liberals everywhere were continually blasting anyone that was conservative about how Bush did this, Bush did that, the war, the war, the war... it was incessive!
Now that Obama has succeeded in furthering the economic demise of this nation, something conservatives were screaming about before he was elected, the liberals take offense that we mention Obama's failing poll numbers. Ira, we aren't creating the poll numbers, we are just repeating them. It's a whole lot less than what the liberals were doing to conservatives during the last 2 years of Bush. I gave up on defending Bush somewhere after the 1st year of his second term. It was useless. Bush wasn't the same after the second election... he attempted to appease too many people and his base poll numbers went into the toilet. It wasn't the liberals that drove his numbers down, it was the conservatives that stopped believing in him.
Now that Obama is buffooning around with the economy, making more false promises of prosperity and course correction... his numbers are dropping because people see through bullsh!t. It's sort of I told you so. He doesn't know how to fix anything and has more than proven the point... even though he came across as the man with all the answers... Liberals fell for it hook line and sinker. Sorry we point it out.. it's not personal.. it's business... well maybe a little personal to someone on unemployment, or past the 99 weeks.
OK, GF, you set this one up. Put down your coffee or whatever libation may be in hand and swallow before reading on. I can't replace your monitor and KB
Thanks for the heads up!
To "buss" is to plant a kiss - and other forms of the word derive from that infinitive.
You really do learn something new around here! ;o)
Ira, I was responding to your post at 1.28. Let me explain my position.... I'm not a fan of Bush.... The war with Iraq was the main source of my anger with him. In 2008 I voted for Obama despite the fact I knew nothing about the guy! But I was so angry with Bush and had no confidence in McCain so I ignored the fact the Obama was inexperienced and was probably more liberal than J.Carter. Big mistake, in 2008 I should have voted with my brain, not my heart. Obama has disappointed me (and the country) far more than Bush ever could! Obama won in 2008, not because he was qualified, but because many were pissed at Bush.... we all made a big mistake voting in anger and not vetting BO a little more before rashly voting for him in 08!
A good weekend to you too Ira! Only a couple nice weekends left of summer for us at Lake Tahoe!
You made my point..."well maybe a little personal to someone on unemployment, or past the 99 weeks."
As I said, there's plenty blame to go around...how about trying to fix what's wrong rather than gloating about it cause that's what happened with Bush.
Let's play grown up politics rather than the I told you so BS that we're doing now.
That was my point. At the other end of this mess there are real people's lives being turned upside down and this Congress has done nothing. I did read on FR that one Congressman was considering impeachment charges as a way to tie up the agenda till 2012. That's not legislating. That's straight out obfuscation.
What it is is MSNBC pandering.....who cares. President Obama deserves whatever "vacation" time he needs considering the freaking mess created by the Rethugs, as well as the continuing chaos in this country that they are pushing. If they want to scream and holler about it, what's new, since that's all they do. WTF!!!! We all know the President works even on vacation. Even Bush did. One can't be kept in that boiling caldron of Washington politics 24/7 without losing their mind. I can't even listen to the crap on cable anymore. It's sickening, disgusting, stupid.
On another thread: Miss O'Donnell. By the way, one note on that, since she is against actual intercourse before marriage, birth control, and any other form of self-freedom, why isn't masturbation the answer to all her problems. With masturbation you do get abstinence from sexual realtions with another person, you don't get pregnancy, unwanted disease, etc. I would think masturbation would be an ideal choice for someone like her. And to hypocritcally back off all those creepy little stories she had in her book and accuse Piers Morgan of being creepy - isn't it her subject matter that's pretty creepy? I hope she's not back on the stage, so many of these people want nothing more than a spotlight.....you know who I'm talking about, so I won't mention any names and conjure them up. I also am not a witch!
Ira said: Let's play grown up politics rather than the I told you so BS that we're doing now.
It's perfectly well to say that when it's your guy on the receiving end of the complaints. Where was this rationality during the last presidency?
I, for one am rational. Pretty much the only time I will complain about Obama is when I read something that puffs him up, irrationally. I fully understand the party loyalty and the different political bonds... which is something that I can't share with anyone. I gave up on party, a long time ago considering the fools they make of themselves. That goes for both democrat and republican.
Considering my conservativeness, I'd much rather debate ideology over party any day of the week. There aren't a lot of people that understand that and those that don't know me will try to label me as a republican.
Since I did vote for Bush, I found the barbs against him to be over the top. Even though my opinion about him changed in approximately 07 and 08, it was the childish and completely insensitive remarks made by liberals that causes those against Obama to express their opinions of him in such a harsh manner. I understand it... and I personally try to contain my remarks to a sensible critique... not everyone is me though... Some conservatives are just plain pissed off.
What do you think Spanky... the extra airplane cost us taxpayers an additional $4-500,000? Shoot, I would have driven all of them for less than a grand.
Crikey, how about conservatives ask Boehner about his one week off for every two weeks of work! That dude will never run for POTUS precisely because of the photo above -- He will never give up his cushy golf, tan, Happy Hour position (or pay, benefits, retirement).
It does feel like lone ranger time around here, doesn't it?
You get the feeling that unless the remarks are prepared, there is no way that the majority of the "regulars" are going to join in a political argument that requires thought, knowledge and the ability to think on their feet. AM is certainly the exception, and that's an objective view.
Why 2 planes, I have no clue but I'm willing to bet the Secret Service arranged it based up the Presidents schedule.
To my point, it's getting uglier for the homeless, poor, elderly and just everyday folk trying to make it. This inane name calling and finger pointing and straight out obfuscation on both sides does nothing to move the argument forward.
You get it (sometimes)...explain it to your loyal followers like Brian numbers...
Hey Spanky...What do you think Spanky... the extra airplane cost us taxpayers an additional $4-500,000? Shoot, I would have driven all of them for less than a grand. Wonder if he put his thumb back in his mouth after his wrote that.
Let's not pick on the silly and address the real problems. If FR is an encapsulated look at the nation as a whole...we are in for a world of pain for the next 2 years/
totally late to the party; but I wish I had a dollar for every Repub who claims they aren't a fan of Bush BUT wholeheartedly support the Republican agenda,...which appears to be a return to more of the same, from McCain all the way down to Perry's "Corporatist" agenda.
I think we should seriously be talking about the debt.. give Japan ..Hawaii as payment in full and China all the southern states .. we kill two birds with one stone ! And its over ..then take the senates and congress pay and make them paid by the hour employees ..at a real salary of 35 K a year NO benefits so they have to pay real bill's like the real people do ... AND NO RETIREMENTS and strip all the current senate /congress retirements to pay for the Social Security fund they allowed to be raided and said nothing about !
I like Hawaii so that a deal breaker. I agree, if Congress (GOPTP) insists on revamping ordinary citizen's social security and medicare, then let's overhaul Congress's pension and benefits plan. In fact that should be first on the list. Their pension should be 401Ks is a good place to start.
Come on up to Pennsylvania, chilled---we'd love to have you! Winters might be a challenge for you but we get rain all the time--without having to pray for it!
I'm with you Steeler Fan - heck, I'd sell or give anybody every inch of texasss right after we get all the Janis Joplin vintage stuff out of the Museum of the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur!
'Steeler Fan-380417 Come on up to Pennsylvania, chilled'
Thanks Steeler Fan.....I can get used to the cold and rain in PA. Getting used to ignorance in Texas....not so easy!
..but then, not to hoist Slick Rick on the rest of the country......maybe he should win, Texas would be rid of him......of course this would only work if both houses of congress are Democratic controlled. Yikes, what am I thinking.....
This is the same look he had watching the Navy Seals execute Bin Laden. It's always a jolt to see this side of President Obama, since he is usually pictured in a crowd smiling and shaking hands.
There's a difference between a supporter and a worshipper Amy. You love this man so much that he can do NO wrong. There's no amount of economic damage, nor clipping of the Constitution, lack of job creation, or even if we went into a depression that would change your mind. You follow him so blindly and place all your faith into him it borders on irrational. Have you ever asked yourself the question - what wouldn't I do for him? That would be an interesting response if you dare make it.
Hey, I had to chose among Biden, Edwards, Dodd, Hillary, Richardson, Kucinich, Warner, Gravel, Vilsack and Obama for my candidate in 2008. Do you know how many forums, debates and interviews withe politicians I had to watch to make my decision? You better believe I support President Obama. I'm so glad I don't have to go through that again!
Bryan, I'm not happy with any of the republican contenders. Considering that I am an independent, I might just cast my vote for Mickey Mouse if someone doesn't come out of the woodwork. It will boil down to Obama versus the Republican... and who ever that Republican is... will determine if Mickey gets my vote.
Now Amy--don't go spoiling their image of us as empty-headed rock-star worshippers of the President. Don't suggest that we read up on all the candidates, including books they've written, did our homework and came to support then-candidate Barack Obama based on his articulated views and policies and visions for our country.
Doesn't seem to be the process they go through, does it?
Wow. So you were expecting unemployment to skyrocket, the economy to crawl, and foreign policy to go to hell in a hand basket?
Geez. Think you could have warned the rest of us so we could have taken cover? Or, maybe, made it clear to the thousands of independents who thought he had a clue how to do the job, rather than just spend us into oblivion?
Here I thought you just foolishly fell in love with a pretty face and a slick talker. Now, you admit that you KNEW he'd destroy the country- and you want him reelected so he can finish the job?
I wouldn't want to be a Republican trying to choose a candidate this time.
For one thing, the candidates are all so anti-Obama, as if he were personally responsible for our economic difficulties. THat negativity turns me off. Secondly, they don't take any ownership for failed Republican policies, such as the idea that tax cuts grow the economy, when Bush's cuts in 2001, clearly had the opposite effect. Thirdly, they have no ideas for getting us out of our economic downturn, except...tax cuts. I won't even get into all the quasi-Christian hyberbole, which just makes me, an East Coast, mainline Protestant, absolutely nuts.
You can always vote for the Libertarian candidate, if you can't support President Obama, that's what my brother does. Libertarians need votes to stay viable as a Party.
Actually Amy, this is why I hate the 2 party system. People lodge themselves within a strict orthodoxy of political opinion and don't want to stray from it because of their comfort zones. Famlies have generational democrats or republicans and aren't willing to leave their party's because of family tradition. The democrats of today aren't the same ideology of 3 generations ago... The same goes with the republicans. This is why I remain independent and always will. I have problems with both main partys. I'm about 10 percent republican and about 2 percent democrat.
The rub comes with voting for a candidate. I usually end up voting for the candidate that is the lesser of two evils. Unfortunately that's the way our system works. I have never thrown my hat completely into the ring on any single candidate I've voted for. I'm too cynical.
Maybe this will explain why I show my arse on someone that is so hooked on Obama... I have never believed him, or believed IN him. To me, if a politician isn't kissing a baby, they are taking their suckers away from them.
At the time Bush took office the economy had grown at a 1.1% annualized rate over the previous three quarters to March 31 of the first year of Bush presidency [64] (see Early 2000s recession). Bush had his tax cut plan approved by Congress in June.
Overall real GDP grew at an average annual rate of 2.5%. Between 2001 and 2005, GDP growth was clocked at 2.8%. The number of jobs created grew by 6.5% on average. The growth in average salaries was 1.2%. Growth in consumer spending was 72% faster than growth in income. Investment in residential real-estate soared, growing 26% faster than average.[11][63]
So, as a result of the tax cuts, in four years, GDP almost tripled, and job GROWTH averaged 6.5%.
Please note that the civilian labor force also grew- rather than shrunk, as it has for Obama,
Those numbers continued their growth levels until 2008, when the financial crisis took place. Obama is totally clueless about how to turn the economy.
Either Perry, with a proven jobs record, or Romney, with a record of his own, will be the nominee.
Either will win the presidency.
Obama can go back to community organizing, or join the paid speaker circuit. I really don't care, as long as he is not in a position to destroy my country.
Bryan - I don't have any skin in the game when it comes to the republican candidate. This is why it tickles me to see the democrats throw all the republican candidates under the bus. They don't have any skin in the game either.. it's all opinion. Its as if they are trying to overrun what the republicans will do. It wouldn't matter if a republican candidate can actually walk on water, bend steel in their bare hands, create something from nothing... the democrats would find something wrong with him/her.
Somebody thinks George Bush's policies were a failure. Who? Oh just the Wall Street Journal:
The Bush administration created about three million jobs (net) over its eight years, a fraction of the 23 million jobs created under President Bill Clinton‘s administration and only slightly better than President George H.W. Bush did in his four years in office.
Bush and his aides are quick to point out that they oversaw 52 straight months of job growth in the middle of this decade, and that the economy expanded at a steady clip from 2003 to 2007. But economists, including some former advisers to Bush, say it increasingly looks as if the nation's economic expansion was driven to a large degree by the interrelated booms in the housing market, consumer spending and financial markets. Those booms, which the Bush administration encouraged with the idea of an "ownership society," have proved unsustainable.
But thanks for giving me an opportunity to talk to our Independent friends about how we ended up where we are. Any opportunity to talk about George Bush's record is an opportunity to think twice about Rick Perry!
They should put him in front of a green screen with the oval office superimposed on it, then no one would even know he was in Martha's Vineyard.
Maybe that would shut up the idiots that think that he needs to be in Washington (by himself since congress is on their 5 week vacation) so he can worry about the economy.
Do people really believe that the president can actually take a real word vacation? The office goes with him where ever he is.
Let's see---George Bush goes on vacation for the month of August before 9/11, ignores memo on Bin Laden's intent to strike in the US and that's OK. President Obama takes 10 days while Congress is adjourned for 5 weeks not holding town meetings, is shown very seriously and intently listening to a briefing and this is a problem because.........
ITM--those of you on the right will scrutinize everything President Obama does no matter what we say or don't say about George Bush. I don't have a problem with that---it is your right and if that is how you spend your time & energy that is OK by me. But I have the same right to have opinions on how George Bush handled his Presidency and the legacy he left behind.
SF, kinda makes you wonder. The only people concerned about the "optics" have been the journalists and pundits preaching it to the viewers. I saw some darn good optics of Pres Obama outside the local bookstore meeting and greeting, posing for pictures, folks thrilled to have him on Martha's Vineyard.
Have a wonderful time, President Obama and family. I'm sure the journalists much prefer Martha's Vineyard to Crawford, Texas in August.
Obama? Well, the realclearpolitics average is 43%, while Gallup, (if you want to compare apples to apples), has him at 40%.
Yeah, yeah, I know- all the laws of mathematics will be upended, and next year at this time unemployment will be at zero, GDP will be growing at 10%, peace will reign in the Middle East, and Iran and North Korea, overcome by their newly discovered love for Obama, could end their nuclear weapon programs.
Meanwhile, here in reality, folks have discovered that the change Obama brought was along the lines of a train wreck, so all the helium went out of the hope balloon.
He should really quit while he's leading from behind.
you crack me up No Jo. Way to prove my point. Reagan's approval rating was at 35% in his third year. Unemployment under Reagan hit 10%. Just a few points the media fails to remind people of while they harp on our current economic difficulties and President Obama's struggles.
All those on tv who are complainin' about President Obama taking a vacation have beautiful tans and sunburns. The pundits have taken one of their many vacations they have throughout the year. The golf courses around here are packed with golfers. The beaches are packed, Fenway Park is packed, the parks are packed with parents and their families. Kites are flying all around me. Laughter is everywhere.
Everybody is enjoying the summer for crying out loud. As Feisty mentioned, where is Congress? On vacation. As usual.
What is summer without music? It’s where our memories are most vivid as we come across songs of our youth. We remember our back yard, riding in the car, graduation from high school. First summer love. There are oldie songs out there somewhere for everyone that bring back wonderful memories. And most of these memories are from our summers.
Whether you loved or hated the 1960's, there is no getting around the phenomenal music the '60's gave us. Most members of groups who came along during the early Beatles years were in their early 20's, which means most of them were born during World War Two and grew up during the beatnik era.
When I think back to the music of those years, the American groups that stand out for me are The Beach Boys, The Supremes, Jan & Dean, The Temptations and Four Seasons. And then there were these three guys.
The Walker Brothers.
As has been said time and time again, the three members of the group were not brothers. Nor was John, Scott or Gary's last name Walker. Their life as a group was brief. Most of you only know their songs from oldie stations on the radio.
They were sensational.
John and Scott met in California and did some singing in a band, with John as lead vocal. And then along came drummer Gary in 1964, and he said – let's go to London – that’s where the scene’s at. They took on the mop top look and from then on were always mistaken for a British group. They took the UK by storm. By this time it was Scott as lead vocal.
When you first heard them singing their first major hit Make It Easy on Yourself, a Burt Bacharach song, you were reminded of The Righteous Brothers. Clean cut, short hair, conservatively dressed. At least that's how I imagined them to look. So when I finally saw them, I was shocked. John Walker immediately reminded me in some small way of Jim Morrison/The Doors, in looks and dress. Scott Walker was known as the blonde Beatle.
The girls screamed and fainted and tried pulling their hair out whenever they got close to John and Scott. When John Walker was living in California before he hit it big, it was he who taught Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys how to play the guitar.
They had only a few hits here in the US but their harmonies were breathtaking. And Scott Walker's voice I don't believe can be compared to anyone. His talent was extraordinary and together with John, they were a remarkable talent on stage.
Scott was unhappy with all that went along with being a popular singer – he wanted to become a human being again, he said. He didn't like the touring, the hotels, the adulation from the girls. Their records began sounding dated. So the Walker Brothers were no more by 1968. Other than a brief reunion in the mid 1970's. Scott did some beautiful songwriting and even had his own TV show in England for a time in the late 1960's.
When you watch videos of their appearances, you wonder why they didn't last longer. They were so unique, especially their stage presence.
There are many you tube interviews with John in later years and he is just the nicest person. Sadly he died in May, of which I didn't hear of until quite recently.
When I think of groups that harmonized beautifully together back then, I think of The Vogues, The Happening and The Lettermen. However, these three groups can't hold a candle to what The Walker Brothers did with this song here to go along with a memorial video dedicated to John with lots of photographs of The Walker Brothers during their heyday. This is quite possibly the most beautiful song I have ever heard.
Warning to those who are old enough to remember The Walker Brothers. This video is terribly sad. The song haunting in its beauty. The photos a reminder of a time so very long ago, yet seems like only yesterday. (The song begins at 40 secs and photos start at about 1:30)
I'm not sure what the definition of a torch song is. All I know is I love them and Scott Walker was in a league of his own when it came to torch songs. Here are two beautiful songs he sang lead vocal while the band was still together. Scott himself wrote one song and it's a masterpiece - I Can See It Now.
Carole King and Gerry Goffin wrote I Need You, a song which reached #1 for the group in the UK. It’s got all the great sounds of a Phil Spector record.
I haven't thought of those guys at all since about 1964. I was in high school when they performed on Balboa Island, at the old Rendezvous Ballroom, it may have een. Not much of a pop music fan at the time, I had to be dragged by some classmates to attend. Tim Morgan was on the program too - remember The Cat Came Back?
Anyone reading this who lives around Costa Mesa or Newport Beach today wouldn't even recognize the landscape of that era. Well, Pat, thanks mucho for that!
Your welcome John. I was so sad to hear of the passing of John. They were a tremendous and unfortunately underrated group. Scott Walker was in a league all his own. Glad you enjoyed the memories.
Great post as usual, Pat. A local public radio station is having a "Songs of Summer" contest---will play the top 40 songs over Labor Day Weekend. I submitted "See You In September".
The pettiness of the anti-Obama vacation nonsense is ridiculous but consider the source.
How are you feeling about your Red Sox? Now that my Pirates have peaked for the year, I'll get on your bandwagon!
Steeler Fan: How well I remember See You In September!! Love that song still to this day. The Red Sox look strong going into October; it will be the usual fare - NY vs. us. Unfortunately. I would like to see some other teams get into the playoffs. Their fans have suffered long enough. It ain't fair. It just ain't fair.
We all know you are a 60's throwback.
ITM: Yeah, the 1960's were real groovy man. (Actually I never talked like that, and grew quite impatient with those who did. Drove me nuts!) But everybody was friendly and full of fun and willing to give you the shirt off their backs, provided they had one.
They always had money for beer and pot, but they were forever bumming money for cigarettes. They always seemed to run out of cigarettes, especially my brothers and their friends. Too funny.
Pat, your posts are always excellent memory refreshers. I hadn't thought of the Walkers in years.
I also associate music with summer. The Beach Boys "Endless Summer" makes an annual trip to the car to be played with the sun roof and windows open. The music of the 60's is still the best.
In the late 50's we went to California on the train. Balboa Island was my favorite place. Our relatives took us south along Hwy 1 to San Diego--the drive was amazing. When i moved to SD in 1973, and made that same drive north, you couldn't recognize it.
Thanks Jody. Sometimes I just like to come here and do something different. We've all known each other for years it seems now, and it's nice to share some things we all have in common. My favorite summer group was Jan & Dean and of course the Beach Boys.
Pat, Boston: thank you for the memories. the song "Make it easy on yourself" recorded by Jerry Butler is my all time favorite. Summer I first fell love with my friend 's cousin;he was from Jackson Mississippi staying in MN for the summer. What a summer... I have the Jerry Butler CD playing on the computer right now. I will bring this CD over to DDI later this afternoon.
One of these days the republicans are going to wake up and realize that bashing Obama doesn't create jobs or get the country moving forward.
It will probably be before these posters on this board get it.
You anti Obamas are the 30% that would defend the republican way as they took the food from your mouth. You would ask how can we give the rich more?
Just in case you conservatives ever wondered why your arguments just don't seem to take hold, except with the other 30%, we liberals need more than censored news, repeated talking points and daily pure hatred for our president to change our minds.
AF - so what do you think of the Gallup poll that says Obama has a 26% approval rating on the economy? Or is that part of the censured news, repeated talking points, and daily pure hate that you ignore?
Americans have already woken up to the fact that electing Obama made every single problem we had worse, and the only solution Obama has is to blame anybody or anything he can think of for his failures.
Anyone who remains callow at fifty is beyond hope. It's time for a change.
Come on Americans First - how about you back up your talk?
Address the 26% issue raised by JAS1. Oh and while you are at it please explain what you mean by republicans taking food from mouths. I assure you, they take nothing from my mouth. Then again I am not so big on public assistance, if that is what you mean.
Of course it is very likely you have no idea what you mean.
Nicely said, Americans First. That 30% won't recognize their pockets have been picked until they follow their leaders to the edge of the cliff and have to pay the toll to fall off.
Looks to me like democrats are hemoragging numbers. Not really surprising, since so many change parties depending on the success or failure of the party in power.
Obama's epic failure as president, coupled with the success of the far left wing to destroy the Clinton centrists, will leave the democratic party in the desert for a generation.
It took twelve years for democrats to get back into the White House after the Carter debacle.
I'm thinking, after Obama, it will be at least 16- if not 20.
Wait a minute now. How can the President's economic policies fail when they haven't been tried. If I remember correctly, according to the republican posters on this site the president did not submit a budget proposal in writing. Remember the "you can't legislate a speech" crap. Now you can't have it both ways...but maybe you can...cutting taxes and entering wars; now that's a winning economic policy for you.
One of these days obama and company will realize that rhetoric is fine for campaigning but has yet to replace a written plan once the campaigning is done. As potus, obama needs to show us a written short term plan with numbers and verifiable projections. Then he needs to stop being obama the divider and become obama the unifier.
Other that the fact that you are out and out lying the Gallup poll taken two days ago gives President Obama 40% approval rating. You are trying to twist the approval for the economy as President Obama's approval.
That is the kind of censored news I am talking about, where did you get your information?
Seventy-one per cent said they disapproved of Mr Obama's handling of the economy, up 11 percentage points from mid-May, when Gallup last questioned people about the issue. Approval of his handling of the economy fell by 11 percentage points from 37 per cent in mid-May.
The president had similarly low approval ratings on other economic issues. Only 24 per cent of Americans approved of Mr Obama's handling of the federal budget deficit, while 29 per cent approved of his efforts to create jobs.
The poll came two weeks after Congress and the president agreed on a deal to cut US federal spending following a bitter political struggle that took the government to the brink of a potential default.
The president's overall job approval rating among voters questioned Aug 11-14 was 41 per cent, slightly lower than other polls conducted in August.
Approval for Mr Obama's handling of the Afghanistan war was also sharply lower. His ratings have fallen by 15 percentage points since mid-May, when they hit 53 per cent after the killing of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
The poll was based on 1,008 telephone interviews with US adults and had a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. -- Reuters

Did it ever occur to you it may be due to Democrats who are tired of the President negotiating with tea baggin terrorists?
I know if they would of asked me - I would of said I dissaprove.
Doesn't for a second mean I won't work hard to get him re-elected...
The President needs to tell these terrorist to STFU!
Feisty Skankhead, did it ever occur to you that the President just isn't doing a good job. But you go ahead and keep defending him and making excuses for him.
I know you don't care, but you lose all creditability when you refer to American citizens as terrorist.
Geeze - I'm only following the example set by the Teapublican's
Bold added for emphasis:
Former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill likened Republicans who are trying to block raising the federal debt ceiling to terrorists.
"I think the people who threaten not to pass the debt ceiling are our version of al-Qaeda terrorists," O'Neill said in an interview Wednesday on Bloomberg Television's InBusiness With Margaret Brennan. "They're really putting our whole society at risk by threatening to round up 50 percent of the members of Congress -- who are loony -- who would put our credit at risk."
Fisty Redbush, to think the President wanted a clean debt ceiling vote...the left just want to blame someone for this Presidents inability to lead. If it wasn't for the the Teaparty, our credit rating would have dropped even more.
Hey, it just doesn't look good with the President vacationing among his rich friends at Martha's Vineyard says one top Administration aid to the other. Hey, I got an idea lets take a picture of the President looking attentive and release to the press so it won't look so bad says the other aid. Good idea, he replies. The Lemmings won't know what hit em.
I have no problem with the President taking a vacation anywhere in this country. But I do have a problem with Congress...who's responsible for producing bills that would....oh forget that. Congress should not have a five week vacation, what average working person is allowed to take five weeks off without having backup. Hell, two people in a department taking a vacation at the same time creates chaos in the business world. Congress should have backup; let average Americans fill the void and select suitable solutions to our country's problems. We could post them on facebook and vote on them by the time Congress get's back. Then we can hand them all pink slips at the door and deny the unemployment benefits. Hey can an ex-congress person collect unemployment and has any done so in the past?
-just being silly, my apologies to you serious political heads.
I have no problem with the president taking some time off, good for him. My problem is we have millions of people out of work and everyday without a job is one day to long.
People are looking for leadership, they want to know there is is light at the end of the tunnel. Obama says he has a plan, I've got something and I will unveil it after Labor Day. What? So we are left hanging until he gets back.
How can anyone justify his actions? Tells us your plan and then go on vacation.
Unfortunately they don't have one yet. Someone else is still working on one for him and are waiting for him to get back from vacation so he has time to review it and program the teleprompters.
totas - I have no problem with the pres walking the beach with his daughters as they look for shells or catching a nooner or two with michelle, but his after labor day speech had better be short on rhetoric and long on numbers and verifiable projections.
Obama may be counting to much on the stupidity of his FR libs to buy off on his rhetoric, but there are many business and economic leaders who are not as gullable as fiesty, mickey, amyb, navy, johnb and other FR libs. They are the ones that are capable of seeing if obama has a clue or not, and they are looking for a written action plan not rhetoric.
The super rich have always taken eleborate vacations, even when we could not afford to pay for a ticket to a ball game. Nothing new here, but the President is still working even though it seems he is loafing around. Everyone should take some time off, even just a few days, to re-group. Sometime, just a change of scenery makes a big difference.
I figure he'll be down another 3-5% after the continued stock pummeling, vacation photos and the immigration fiasco.
He really does know how to piss off independents and folks who have no job. Seems like deporting the illegals might help that out a bit.
It's getting fairly big play here - we got an illegal with 6 DUIs in the news. THis will of course apply to him and his ilk [again, they have a proclivity to drive drunk] as he will be deemed "non-violent."
Sure until he runs into your faimily and kills them.
You can tell by the Liberal reaction to your post that they in fact see this President is going down in flames and they are so upset and are having a hard time dealing with the truth. Pat, the world is not going to end when there is a new President in 2012 - it's alright to let go.
The only people i see having a hard time are those who are obsessed with bashing the president and asking about his approval ratings.
There is no discourse here. No intelligent conversation about solutions to our country's economic turmoil. If you don't like his policies, good for you. Vote against him in November. But don't sit there and honestly look down your nose at him while there are SEVERAL others in Washington DC that have just as much to do with this mess. Try looking at Republican leadership (or lack thereof). Hold them to the fire as vehemently as you do the president. Because I've got news for you...it's going to take everyones ideas and compromise to bring us out of this downward economic spiral.
Again, this is about the country, not the party. Do what's best for all of us.
It's all about the applesauce Bryan, hence the focus.
But don't worry - we'll be able to have many intelligent conversations about Obama's plan just as soon as he sees fit to tell us what it is. Right now he just is in no rush to do so.
But love the adoption of the Maverick's old campaign slogan. I wonder if, not that the libbies are reduced to that ["Country First"] he gets royalties.
My how far we have come since 2008. Too bad it's all in the wrong direction.
BrianE - welcome to politics 101, bashing the opposition.
Politics 102 covers don't use campaign rhetoric once elected and seek bipartisan ship the first month in office, not 1 1/2 years later.
Politics 201 - the effective executive CEO knows how to lead and be a unifier. The well versed CEO will leave behind his days as a small time dept head in favor of the greater good. Partisanship by a leader never leads to anything good.
Politics 301 and 401 - the CEO will always be the target for receiving kudos or the tomatoes, comes with the job. Always has and always will. G. Washington may have been the exception.
Politics 501 - When being the incumbent, save the rhetoric for after the nominating convention. A viable action plan will do more for re-election than rhetoric.
If you are trying to bash the bashers, have at it. I have noticed that few, a very few posters at least try to raise up solutions, while far to many want to dwell in the past. Must suck to be a liberal FR poster.
What would you do as president to get us out of this mess other than criticize from behind the keyboard? Do you have anything at all to add to conversation? Or are you just paid to bash President Obama? Why not direct your anger at Congress. Hell their approval rating is lower than the presidents. Isn't that all that matters to you? Ratings?
bryanE - A potus needs to be long on action and short on rhetoric of blame and veto's.
I remember a news report shortly after obama took the oath and he visited with the military leadership and said (paraphrased) "guys, I don't want to screw this up". To bad he didn't follow thru on the economy.
By the way, I would have had a sitdown at the WH with the four congressional leaders individually the first month and then as a group within 3 months.
YES PEOPLE this is a Photo Op...and a much needed one to counter the rediculous crap spewed by the a$$ holes of likes of JAS1, Joe Albany, No Joe No Brains, Spankme Spanky, and the rest of the GOTP/FOX Party complaining that our president is taking a "vacation" when we all know that he is not on a complete vacation, i.e., job escape!
Why looky here - poor old pat has lost the argument and apparently knows it.
Name calling and profanity. How articulate pat, you muist be so very proud of yourself today.
But I do so like the "not a complete vacation" meme. Gosh it sounds so much like something the libbie god-king would say - "depends what the definition of 'is' is."
But yeah, things are going so swimmingly now pat it really is a great time for a partial vacation. Obviously, cause no one seems to care, 'cept us "a$$ holes" right Pat?
We are the ones who wrote the article and are bringing it up each and every hour on MSNBC? Sure we are pat, you tell yourself whatever you need to, cause it's only getting worse.
Yes, Pat, you can't handle the truth but there is still hope in a world after Obama. PS - I'm guessing another 5 point drop in the Gallup Poll after Obama's latest Backdoor amnesty plan. I guess we didn't have to wait for September for this plan.
Lighten up... why is it that you automatically lump everyone who isn't an Obama Worshipper as a member of the TP and Fox viewer. Really? Does that even make any sense?
There are a number of you on here where your level of Obama Worship is downright nauseating.
Spankster (how's the ambulance chasing biz?) and the rest of you banana rebpublicans really need to chill. After all you got 98% of what you wanted according to Boner. So where are the Job?
King Obama and the Dems wasted 18 months installing granite countertops instead of repairing the large cracks in the foundation and the roof -- so ask King O where the jobs are.
No. I ask John "JOBS JOBS JOBS" Boehner where the freaking jobs are at Krell. The President DOES NOT, repeat DOES NOT, initiate any bill in the U.S. Congress. Ever. Why is it so hard for some people to understand that?
Oh and before i am accused of being obsessed with Obama or similar nasty and very untrue comments, i would say the same of ANY president and ANY speaker. The Speaker of the House and The President HAVE to work together.
It's not hard to understand and I didn't say anything about BO writing bills... my point is simply that King Obama steered the focus away from the #1 priority (ECONOMY) to Obamacare. Plain and simple - surely you get that - right?
I'll concede that Obama did not focus on the Economy and Jobs when he should have. The stimulus didn't go far enough. But at the same time i will not sit and let you blame him solely. It just isn't right. There are plenty of "Leaders" in D.C. that do anything but lead.
Why thanmk you for asking Torpedo - the business is going fairly well. I have gotten a huge response, have sorted through a bunch of very good resumes and will be interviewing next week.
But I'm guess you were not directing your job inquiry to me and my business. So I will again remind you that the republicans control but 1/3 of the government, and more importantly, the government does not create jobs.
And Bryan E. some economist on Morning Joe this morning stated his opinion that Obama has no plan, and never has had a plan regarding the economy. Now I have no idea who he is or his qualifications, but the proof is in the pudding as they say. There clearly has been no plan.
Hope is not a plan, Change is not a strategy. Experience counts.
Solely blame him? For putting Obamacare over the economy, yes I do. But, to blame one guy for all our problems is not even reasonable, so of course not. All I can say is BO took a bad situation and made it worse.
Now, as for the stimulus not going far enough (we'll never know)... the same could be said if when the House passed a repeal of Obamacare, if the Senate and Obama would have killed it - would business have begun hiring? We'll never know. What we need to know (and no doubt some institution has been following) is once Obama signed the bill, if companies stopped hiring. Based on many Business folk and economists, they claim the answer is yes. I don't run a business so I wouldn't know.
Surely there are those that contribute to these pages that run a business. All of them (both sides) should chime in and say.
Spanky well said. Gotta disagree on one point though, government does create government jobs.
Gee torpedo, obama and company seems to have forgotten the old saying of "as goes the economy, so goes the jobs" Bet that is why jobs are traditionally a lagging indicator. BTW - The populace knows who is supposed to be the leader and that position is called POTUS.
You have attended many strategy sessions - but here is the difference. PLAN CLEAR strategy sessions are: (1) Numbers-driven and analytically disciplined (2) Human psychology integrated for biasfree planning (3) Risk integrated for effective risk management
To summarise an answer to your point: we have identified and execute a set of management practices aimed to identify wrong strategy as soon as its effects begin to deploy and not having too much time passed before understanding something going wrong.
I made the mistake of saying that I "hoped" something was going to happen favorably in the near future of the project. "Son, hope is not a plan" the manager boomed over the speakerphone. "The next time we meet, I expect that you will have a better answer to this question,"
Kudos again to spanky for a concise summary that is obviously based on past experience and with multiple teachers. Looks like obama needs these points to round out his education on being a leader.
By special request from JoAnne in Pa., first song on the juke box at the Dew Drop Inn this week will be The Hollies "Bus Stop"! I'll buy the first round of drinks---in honor of the President's well-deserved vacation, I'm suggesting my favorite vacation drink with a fancy umbrella in it---the classic pina colada.
There's the phot of Pres. Obama getting a security briefing while on vacation.
And here's what G.W.Bush was doing on August 11, 2001:
August 11, 2001
President Bush is on vacation in Crawford, Texas, where five days earlier he had been warned by the CIA of a possible attack in a paper titled: "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S." The document said al Qaeda members were believed to be in the U.S., and that a caller to the U.S. embassy in the United Arab Emirates said "a group of bin Laden supporters was in the U.S. planning attacks with explosives." According to "The One Percent Doctrine" by Ron Suskind, the president told the CIA briefing officer, "All right. You've covered your ass now."
This can be found at #1
in an investigative story entitled "While America Slept: The True Story of 9/11.
By the way, at this time in Ronald Reagon's presidency, Reagon's approval rating was only 43% - pretty close to Pres. Obama's 40%.

Of course you never bashed Bush during his 8 years eh? Of course not..........Here's something that's not a "bash" Frank, why did Obama use an excutive order for immagration today? If you don't want people "bashing" Obama, maybe these type of actions shouldn't be done by him.
Hey Paul, wasn't it Bush who first offered some kind of amnesty or worker program, or was it Reagan, no, it was Bush. Sure didn't hear your dumbya ass complaining then. Come back when you got something solid to bitch about.
My party? Which is that Frank? I vote my personal interests, and haver often voted for alternative candidates in local and state level elections. Try not to be so presumptious, it's not becoming, and usually wrong.
But Obama is the boss. He is the leader. And there in lies the problem.
I have no love for Boehner and especially McConnell - they are self interested politicians. They suck, but are a better alternative than Obama/Pelosi and Reid.
But it's ok - economic reality has caught up with all of them.
Frank - where'd all the libbies go from this site?
If you were trying to post a link, it won't let you until you have been on Newsvine for awhile. Then you can email them and they will unblock something so you can post links. Don't ask me why. Probably they try to keep down the advertising spammers.
Thank goodness for this thread - now I can sleep tonight! lol
What the hell was the White House thinking?
This kind of stuff is like throwing lighter fluid on the bar-b-que for the right wing nut jobs!
How about some pictures of the President with his beautiful bride and precious kids instead?
Intently listening to a national security counterterror briefing is serious business. No harm no foul.
Obama getting briefed on how to play out of the sand-trap on the 7th hole.
Trying to figure out what Middle-east leader they should ask to step down today. And then watch as they too ignore Obama.
What the hell was the White House thinking?

LMAO!!!!
That's great. Tiger Woods makes his living off his pitching wedge. Or used to, anyway.
Now if only John Boehner would take some lessons on how to use something in HIS golf bag other than his putter.
The Obama's flying "His & Her" jets to Martha's was a nice touch and great optics.
At least the First Dog hitched a ride with Barack.
Thank goodness Bo got to ride First Class! lol
Unlike Mitten's, who strapped poor old Seamus the Irish Setter to the roof of family station wagon for a road trip!
I'm rather surprised at you, JoAnna.
Being such a fan of private corporate jets, you should appreciate the extravagance and excellent optics of the "his and her jets" better than anyone.
Excess always seems to play very well in your world.
Reportedly, there is a second high tech bus that will be available for use by the Teapublican Presidential nominee!
What, oh what will the rabid right say then........can't wait..
First Read is the one that questioned the worry about optics from the administration, so why are you all jumping on the right?
With their Journalism prowess they saw the picture, immediately published it and then summarily questioned, in the headline, is this just for show?
Well, of course it is, but so what?
Feisty, I thought you has JAS1 on ignore? You just can't help yourself, now, can you?
Obama huddles with his advisers in a morning meeting trying to figure out who else they can blame.
How funny. So why did they opt for a Nat'l Security briefing?
What's the matter little Timmy Geitner too busy?
Bush may have take a lot of vacation, but as far as I can tell he never did so:
1. after getting a major credit downgrade;
2. while unemployment was over 9%;
OH Heaven's NO!
It's some of the best fiction on the site...
Gee, JAAS1, there are so many truly guilty parties, mostly republican, it's probably going to be a tuff decision.
You mean like when 'W' raised the terrorist threat to be so scared you'll @!$%# yourself the weekend before the 2004 election? lol
Worked like a 'charm' then didn't it?
Mark, you can bet obama and his desparate campaign staff have discussed that!
This bus fiasco by the Obama administration will have a lasting impression on the public. Two $1+ million dollar buses, all for a three day photo-op campaign trip. This while thousands lined up in the heat in Atlanta trying to snag a few jobs. Source: http://abcnews.go.com/Business/thousands-show-job-fair-jobless-rate-rises/story?id=14336519
ljkjkl
True enough. The only one off limits from taking any blame, is Obama.
lol, feisty... you fool, in 2004 Bush's popularity wasn't in the toilet and the country was in a Dodd/Frank induced Real Estate boom! Today Obummer's ratings are dropping faster than a cheap wig and the economy IS in the toilet! Mark fr Lake Tahoe's comments are relevant!
Ahhh... I see another tea bagger tool is attempting to re-write history...
FACT; Bush narrowly won the election once again thanks to some shady dealings in ONE particular state - that being OH this time around.
Why is it BOTH of his elections were surrounded in controversy?
It's okay honey - if I had to prop up the current cast of freaks running I would be bitter too! ;o)
You must be a rookie - if you knew anything about politics a day = a lifetime.
So I wouldn't be crowing to much about approval ratings...
Swallow harder - you still have a little foot hanging out of your mouth
It looks these folks on the right have finally lost it. It sounds like they believe their own fake outrage.
The bus, the bus. have you seen the bus?
Lets hope that is not the case.
typical redwig statement..... avoid the truth if it doesn't suit the argument and resort to smear tactics! feisty, the poster hag for libretards!!
M.Fisher, I agree with your friends! The combination of unsustainable debt and miserable leaders in DC could create a 'perfect storm' for an economic collapse! Hope our rookie in the WH has a nice vacation!
An observation.
Sort of like, we'll never kill OBL.
Dewey always wins in real life.
Great weekend everyone.
You're almost correct JAS1......Since when is renting more financially sound than buying? Nevermind!
The buses were purchased by the Secret Service......if your nominee doesn't want to use it then they can limp along by whatever means they choose!
You probably think that the President (the black one), should use public transportation!
Try to be reasonable in your positioning.....
You forgot & sit in the back...
These tea baggers have stumbled upon the latest 'Bus Certificate' nontroversy...
Does that mean we refer to them as bussers?
When you use the bus for only three days.
If a candidate wants a bus, they can use their campaign money to lease/buy one.
You're really struggling with this, aren't you chilled?
Try to rent a bus with 6 inch armor plate that is battle ready.
The bus was purchased by the Secret Service for use by this President and all future Presidents.
It joins the Presidential fleet of cars, limo's, planes and helicopters.
Sometimes a bus trip IS cheaper than flying. Mass transportation. Going green...
It's pointing out the facts Ira. No glee involved. Obama's implementation of Keynesian economics has failed the country, and now the country is taking note with its disapproval of the presidents economic policies.
A meaningless number. 90+% of the current members of Congress will be re-elected. What does that tell you about what the 13% approval rating number means?
You too.
Did you see such a great need, especially during these times, for that extravagance? A bus (or two)? Really?
Lets see, the President took AF-1 to a major mid-west airport. The bus probably got there on a transport plane, just like all the other support vehicles. All jets burn Jet A, the bus diesel, the other support vehicles gas. Yeah, that's going green.
Com'on Ira, you're better than this.
"You forgot & sit in the back..."
I did forget about that, Feisty......
JAS1, do you see the need for the Secret Service to continue the 'extravagance' of protection for former Presidents?....." especially during these times"
JoAnnaSmith1..
Have a good weekend.
Mark from Lake Tahoe
Read my last post.
Good weekend.
Feisty -
OK, GF, you set this one up.
Then quit quoting them.
So now polls do mean something to you.
JoAnnaSmith1..
I don't quote polls...point to one.
No poll has to tell me what is going on in DC.....do you need one?
If you're quarrel with too much spending rests on the purchase of a bus, you should be going insane over the unnecessary trillions spent on a war we were derived and lied into.
Now...good weekend.
Thanks for the heads up!
You really do learn something new around here! ;o)
Can't touch THAT! lol
Brianb-999431.
Great weekend.
Valiantly fought Ira.
But where is the Libbie support around here? Sure we got us some Feisty, the Johns and a little job1, but overall the numbers are way down.
I really seems as though the preference cascade on Obama has begun.
Getting ugly for him.
But do tell us this - why in the heck did he got out to the exact same place as Michele and the girls on a different plane?
No Airplane pooling for them? Just more wasteful practices when others, as you so rightly point out, suffer onward.
Spanky...
If FR is an encapsulated look at the nation as a whole...we are in for a world of pain for the next 2 years/
Great weekend
Oh...just read...the GOP candidate for President gets the other bus that was built.
Seems it was built for both candidates protection while campaigning.
Makes life easier for the Secret Service.
Still think it's a waste of money?
C'mon...I can't hear you...
totally late to the party; but I wish I had a dollar for every Repub who claims they aren't a fan of Bush BUT wholeheartedly support the Republican agenda,...which appears to be a return to more of the same, from McCain all the way down to Perry's "Corporatist" agenda.
WTF? Really? Been there done THAT.
Can't we give them Texas--they want to secede anyway.
wait Steeler Fan....give me time to seek asylum! please
OBAMA 2012
This is the same look he had watching the Navy Seals execute Bin Laden. It's always a jolt to see this side of President Obama, since he is usually pictured in a crowd smiling and shaking hands.
You look like that too with the sun shining in your eyes. Dang do you guys ever get enough of worshipping this man?
Ha ha ha. I knew that would yank your chain, ITM! Am I an Obama supporter? You bethcha!
Good one, Amy. The serious side behind the scenes. Obama/Biden 2012!
Brianb,
Interested in who you support. And why. Care to share?
Hey, I had to chose among Biden, Edwards, Dodd, Hillary, Richardson, Kucinich, Warner, Gravel, Vilsack and Obama for my candidate in 2008. Do you know how many forums, debates and interviews withe politicians I had to watch to make my decision? You better believe I support President Obama. I'm so glad I don't have to go through that again!
Amy:
I agree with your observation about that steely-eyed look of the President. The last time he stopped for a minute have some fun UBL ended up dead.
Moammar and Assad better watch out.
WTF?
Brianb-999431
You can always vote for the Libertarian candidate, if you can't support President Obama, that's what my brother does. Libertarians need votes to stay viable as a Party.
Brianb,
I hear ya. And i thkn Amy B has a point. Better than throwing your vote away, right?
Wrong again, Amy.
From Wikipedia
No jo
Somebody thinks George Bush's policies were a failure. Who? Oh just the Wall Street Journal:
The Bush administration created about three million jobs (net) over its eight years, a fraction of the 23 million jobs created under President Bill Clinton‘s administration and only slightly better than President George H.W. Bush did in his four years in office.
http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2009/01/09/bush-on-jobs-the-worst-track-record-on-record/
No Jo
And then there is this:
Bush and his aides are quick to point out that they oversaw 52 straight months of job growth in the middle of this decade, and that the economy expanded at a steady clip from 2003 to 2007. But economists, including some former advisers to Bush, say it increasingly looks as if the nation's economic expansion was driven to a large degree by the interrelated booms in the housing market, consumer spending and financial markets. Those booms, which the Bush administration encouraged with the idea of an "ownership society," have proved unsustainable.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/11/AR2009011102301.html
No Jo
But thanks for giving me an opportunity to talk to our Independent friends about how we ended up where we are. Any opportunity to talk about George Bush's record is an opportunity to think twice about Rick Perry!
Wait a minute - isn't he supposed to be on vacation...shirking his responsibilities?
Damned if you do, damned if you don't, and who cares either way?
Um... maybe the people that make up the 9.2% unemployment rate care... yah think?
They should put him in front of a green screen with the oval office superimposed on it, then no one would even know he was in Martha's Vineyard.
Maybe that would shut up the idiots that think that he needs to be in Washington (by himself since congress is on their 5 week vacation) so he can worry about the economy.
Do people really believe that the president can actually take a real word vacation? The office goes with him where ever he is.
Good one, Tom Tamarac FL, a green screen and leave the journalists in DC.
Man this is a damn photo op. They knew people like you would eat this up. Everything politicians do is coordinated.
The more you guys complain about BUSH< BUSH<BUSH, the more Obama will be scrutinized. You see how that works? The s**t goes both ways.
Yeah, but President Obama holds up under scrutiny, whereas George Bush looked worse and worse.
Poor, delusional Amy.
Here is where G.W?Bush was at the end of 2003- one year before the election
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/2003-12-26-approval-ratings_x.htm
63% approval. Sixty three percent.
He should really quit while he's leading from behind.
no joe, no bo, nj
yeah, and Ronald Reagan was at 35% approval rating at this point in his presidency, what's your point?
No, Amy- and you've been corrected on that so many times now that it's no longer a mistake.
It's a lie.
Reagan was at 35% in January of his third year. That was the low point. He climbed from there as the economy began to turn around.
Stick to making fun of the disabled. It seems to be the only thing you're good at doing.
Here's a link to the Gallup poll you keep deliberately misstating
http://www.gallup.com/poll/116479/barack-obama-presidential-job-approval.aspx
So, Obama is as 40% approval this month- and the trend is DOWN.
Reagan was at 43%, and trending UP. In fact, by November of 1983, Reagan's approval in Gallup was 53%- as his economic plans bore fruit.
Not happening for Obama- no way, no how.
you crack me up No Jo. Way to prove my point. Reagan's approval rating was at 35% in his third year. Unemployment under Reagan hit 10%. Just a few points the media fails to remind people of while they harp on our current economic difficulties and President Obama's struggles.
Of course not. The Tea-Baggers in the House of Representatives, and Mitch McConnell will make sure of that right NJNB?
Amy, you are not quite as good at spinning as you are at mocking the disabled.
You said that Reagan was at 35% At this point of his presidency.
That is categorically, provably, untrue.
This is AUGUST- not January. You can tell by the lack of snow.
Stick to swooning and mocking.
It doesn't matter what President Obama does, it's 'red meat' for the right wing nut jobs!
He is The President!.........that's 'red meat' enough.
As usual.
________________________________________________________
For baby boomers - male, female, liberals, conservatives – black, white, north, south, east, west, heartland -
What is summer without music?

Here they are performing their signature song – The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore –
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9wV7QWyXf8&feature=related
And here they are, all grown up and looking quite different in the mid 1970s, singing their comeback song – No Regrets, a Tom Rush song.

I'm not sure what the definition of a torch song is. All I know is I love them and Scott Walker was in a league of his own when it came to torch songs. Here are two beautiful songs he sang lead vocal while the band was still together. Scott himself wrote one song and it's a masterpiece - I Can See It Now.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jY9zY0kzeO8
Carole King and Gerry Goffin wrote I Need You, a song which reached #1 for the group in the UK. It’s got all the great sounds of a Phil Spector record.

The Walker Brothers. Thank you for the music. Thank you for the memories. We dug it.
RIP dear John Walker.
Pat - now that was something.
We all know you are a 60's throwback.
Fun. Fun. Fun.!!!!!
My how time flies when you're having fun!
We have grown into a lovely liberal family who have shared many up's & down's over the years!
Wouldn't trade it for anything!
PS: Sorry but the Walkers were before my time (if only by a little) lol
Pat, Boston: thank you for the memories. the song "Make it easy on yourself" recorded by Jerry Butler is my all time favorite. Summer I first fell love with my friend 's cousin;he was from Jackson Mississippi staying in MN for the summer. What a summer... I have the Jerry Butler CD playing on the computer right now. I will bring this CD over to DDI later this afternoon.
Thanks for your post.
Is that why Republicans are working so hard at destroying the economy? To set themselves up for the 2012 presidential election?
Americans have already woken up to the fact that electing Obama made every single problem we had worse, and the only solution Obama has is to blame anybody or anything he can think of for his failures.
Anyone who remains callow at fifty is beyond hope. It's time for a change.
and maybe the Liberals will realize this President isn't getting the job done. Time for hope and change, 11/06/12
Your numbers are a little off.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/15370/party-affiliation.aspx
You can see the speck in your brother/sister's eye, but...
[Come on...- how about you back up your talk?]
...wait...What? REALLY?
...now THAT'S rich...
Feisty,
I know you don't care, but you lose all creditability when you refer to American citizens as terrorist.
You give the Tea Party a lot of credit, this little grassroots movement has the ability to take down the president and destroy the country.
Just think about it for a moment. Now do you feel silly?
Geeze - I'm only following the example set by the Teapublican's
Bold added for emphasis:
NOPE not for a minute...
PS: Appears he's not a 'fan' of tea baggers either! ;o)
Feisty,
You are sooooo reaching..
Raw Story? Why don't you just give me a link to Media Matters? geez
Anyway, Paul O’Neill was an ineffective Secretary of the Treasury. He lost his credibility a long time ago!
Fisty Redbush, to think the President wanted a clean debt ceiling vote...the left just want to blame someone for this Presidents inability to lead. If it wasn't for the the Teaparty, our credit rating would have dropped even more.
My bad!
What WAS I THINKING?
I totally forgot tea bagger spin 101 - when confronted with the FACT, immediately attack the source... LMFAO!
At least admit you're familiar with quotation marks will ya?
Speaking of reaching, be careful there babe, at your age you likely to pull something.
John Brennen: "Ok Mr President, for the 10th time...I'm your counterterrorism advisor, there is nothing I can do about the Economy"
Line of the week, JFK.
You're so witty. Gosh i like your brand of humor.
So JoAnne - are you now lumping Obama in the "super-rich" category?
And seriously what business of it of yours is it what other people do with their time and money? You have no claim to either.
I thought it was all about taking the Rich people's money to pay for the free ride for others. You Liberal Progressives need to make up your mind.
Envy is one if their stronger traits, Spanky. So is covetousness. Might be why they hate religion- all religion.
So, tell me, have you done the probability on the Gallup poll for this weekend?
I figure he'll be down another 3-5% after the continued stock pummeling, vacation photos and the immigration fiasco.
He really does know how to piss off independents and folks who have no job. Seems like deporting the illegals might help that out a bit.
It's getting fairly big play here - we got an illegal with 6 DUIs in the news. THis will of course apply to him and his ilk [again, they have a proclivity to drive drunk] as he will be deemed "non-violent."
Sure until he runs into your faimily and kills them.
I think you're right, Spanky, and again congratulate you for being right last weekend.
My problem with both Gallup and Rasmussen is not the range, which is predictable, but the shift in their targets, which is not as predictable.
So, sure, if you graph it, the slope remains the same, but the probability changes.
So, certeris parabus, he should be at 38% in Gallup on Sunday, given today's 40%.
We shall see.
Obama has now officially reached "laughingstock" status!!!
Drop dead you total idiot!
No, Rob in ma, you and those like you have become the "laughingstock". Petty does that to people.
Sorry ladies, but 26% means something.
Just look around HERE. No more 30 to 1 in libbie's favor. Down right about equal these days. And you know exactly why that is, and what it means.
His tipping point was the credit downgrade. Done and gone, particularly with this very ill times vacation.
You all know it. Recognition will take time, but will occur for each and every one of you.
I'm just glad to be a part of it. :)
[I'm just glad to be a part of it.]
You give yourself WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much credit, as insignificant as that is...
[:)]
...and you may want to wipe that smile off your face...tick tock, Schpanky...tick tock...
Woof, woof says Spanky's little doggy.
That's a good little doggy.
Now here's a treat, sit. Now roll over. Good boy.
Here is what is coming to Liberal America in November, 2012 - a President who isn't named Obama.
Hey Dan G.,
What would you do as president to get us out of this mess other than criticize from behind the keyboard?
Pat,
Lighten up... why is it that you automatically lump everyone who isn't an Obama Worshipper as a member of the TP and Fox viewer.
Torpedo,
King Obama and the Dems wasted 18 months installing granite countertops instead of repairing the large cracks in the foundation and the roof -- so ask King O where the jobs are.
Bryan,
It's not hard to understand and I didn't say anything about BO writing bills... my point is simply that King Obama steered the focus away from the #1 priority (ECONOMY) to Obamacare.
Bryan,
Solely blame him?
Oh my god Spanky, what a great slogan! Brilliant I tell you, just brilliant!
Hope is not a plan, Change is not a strategy. Experience counts.
Did a quick search and found the following links to spanky's summary...

Kudos again to spanky for a concise summary that is obviously based on past experience and with multiple teachers. Looks like obama needs these points to round out his education on being a leader.
I could be wrong about the 5% drop in the Gallup Poll considering there is about a 4% or better chance of the people called being illegal.
JAS1:
You might want to ask UBL about that sand trap, no.
After all, the President did order the killing of UBL the same weekend he was yucking it up at
the WHÂ correspondents dinner.
YES HE CAN. Take a vacation and work at the same time.
Get over it! He is not going to resign because you hate him.
Â
Sheila----the President sure gives a new meaning to "multi-tasking" doesn't he?
Don't ruin No Joe's weekend by taking away her fantasy that the President is going to resign--it is all she has.
I have to laugh with all her calling us 'Obama Worshipper's'...
When the NJ nut job is psychotically obsessed over his resignation & come to think of it anything else for that matter...
Feisty---she did call him a "pretty face" further up this thread.
Isn't it about time to head over to the Dew Drop Inn?
Isn't it about time to head over to the Dew Drop Inn?
Why I think you might be on to something? lol
See you there...
Are you sure she wasn't referring to Perry?
By special request from JoAnne in Pa., first song on the juke box at the Dew Drop Inn this week will be The Hollies "Bus Stop"! I'll buy the first round of drinks---in honor of the President's well-deserved vacation, I'm suggesting my favorite vacation drink with a fancy umbrella in it---the classic pina colada.
Feisty. I was hoping to get a bloody mary . Have a great weekend and everyone stay safe.
A TALE OF TWO VACATIONS:
There's the phot of Pres. Obama getting a security briefing while on vacation.

Funny how nojo, spanky and the bunch are so quick to trash the President. Notice how they don't have one positive thing to say about their own party?
And please spare us the independent thing, nothing independent about any of you
Of course you never bashed Bush during his 8 years eh?
Typical Spanky, 5 lines and no substance at all.. Shame on you, you wannabe counselor.
Remember - "you're either with us or against us"?
And the 'W' Free zones wherever he was appearing & tossing on one his infamous word salads?
[Typical Spanky, 5 lines and no substance at all.. Shame on you, you wannabe counselor.]
Uh Oh! Frank, you better knock that off, or Schpanky the ambulance chaser will just ask you another question!
Oh, and look at this:
[Come on Americans First - how about you back up your talk?]
It's the traffic lawyer asking someone else to "back up their talk"...
...you simply can't make this crap up...but Schpanky sure do try...
Frankh,
Sure didn't hear your dumbya ass complaining then
Selective memory? Just google Bush Amnesty
Sorry about this getting posted multiple-times: I was having trouble inserting the link. I know how to do it now! :-)
If you were trying to post a link, it won't let you until you have been on Newsvine for awhile. Then you can email them and they will unblock something so you can post links. Don't ask me why. Probably they try to keep down the advertising spammers.
