First Read confirms that Elizabeth Warren has filed an exploratory committee to run for the U.S. Senate.
A final decision on her candidacy will come in the next few weeks, some time after Labor Day, a Warren adviser tells First Read.
"Elizabeth has spent the last week listening to people from across the Commonwealth as she considers a campaign for the US Senate," Warren spokesman Kyle Sullivan said in an email. "She wants to continue this conversation and the exploratory committee will assist her in doing so."
If she runs, it could pit Warren -- a liberal Harvard law professor who helped create the Obama administration's Consumer Financial Protection Bureau -- against popular incumbent Republican Scott Brown. But she faces a potentially crowded Democratic primary first that could include as many as six others.
Warren served as the chairwoman of the Congressional Oversight Panel, created after the 2008 financial collapse. Warren has been a hero of the left, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee set up a "Draft Elizabeth Warren for Senate!" page, for example.
But she was also a lightning rod, attracting criticism from those on the right, who thought her calls for more regulation went too far.
Democrats are largely on the defensive this cycle, but they hope to put liberal Massachusetts in play, especially in a presidential year.
*** UPDATE *** NBC's Sarah Blackwill passes along an email from Warren's exploratory committee website:
Dear ,
Thank you for visiting the website of my exploratory committee and for signing up for email updates.
In the weeks ahead, I want to hear from people across Massachusetts about the challenges we face and talk about how we can get our economy growing again. I also want to hear your ideas about how we can fix what all of us – regardless of party – know is a badly broken political system.
We have a lot of hard work to do in our commonwealth and our country. We need to rebuild our economy, family by family and block by block. We need to create new jobs and fix our broken housing market. We need to make sure that there is real accountability on Wall Street and that the greed and recklessness that created the last financial crisis do not create another one. We need to restore the hope of a secure retirement and the promise of a good education.
I am glad to be back home, and I look forward to discussing what we can accomplish together. In the meantime, make sure to join me on Facebook at http://elizabethforma.com/facebook.
Thanks,
Elizabeth

FR : A final decision on her candidacy will come in the next few weeks, some time after Labor, a Warren adviser tells First Read.
Is she pregnant?
Good catch, WCA!
That's what I'm talking about, real intelligentsia. Go Warren! Hoping good things for Gabby too.
Thanks White Collar. Was typing quickly and left off "Day." It's since been added. Apologies for the error.
No Problem Domenico....I never call out typo's, make to many myself, but this one was just for fun....
Hey Domenico, what no article about her Gaffs, Sharp Elbows, etc. Oh thats right, she's a Democrat.
JFK 2112....maybe she doesn't have sharp elbows. I don't...and, yes, I am a Democrat...lol.
Once again, it appears someone has not received the memo...
If you don't approve of the content of this blog you are free to seek happiness elsewhere.
Besides which, she has not entered any race yet, nor campaigned. Calm down, JFK...
Fascinating isn't it?
What kind of cheese is compatible with their WHINE around here?
Did you see Elizabeth Warren testifying before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee? "She doesn't back down, she doesn't take the bait, and she stays on point…” said one observer.
That’s because Warren is highly intelligent as well as a seasoned professional – something that’s sorely missing from the GOP/TP presidential field, not to mention a great example for her gender, which also has been lacking in the GOP/TP field.
Great, sign her up...may she can run agiainst Obama.
TP:
Stop with the ...... you don't even know this woman. All she does is stay on talking points. That is nothing new in politics.
Good point, JFK.
She'll have a tough time against the popular Senator Scott Brown.
One of the most popular politicians in the nation...a Republican in Massachusetts!
Go figure.
Though...
She'd be the darling of the the far left if she chose to primary President Obama.
I can just imagine the enthusiatic response over at Firedoglake.
They just love her.
President Obama?
Not so much.
["She doesn't back down, she doesn't take the bait, and she stays on point…” said one observer.]
...something the GOP fears...
Aw, gosh and golly Noid - really?
Just can't stomach a little dissent?
If only. Noid, sure seems like the demographics be a shifting round these parts lately, eh? Libbies still outnumber conservatives, but not by so much.
And sorry bro, but that is a good thing.
Hey fielden can we apply your thought -hasn't entered the race to anyone else? You know, I kinda think we could - in fact I want you to think about buses, and buss tours. Obama copied a certain someone who has not entered any races, yet she seems to be a regular round here, and not for her bus driving skills.
If someone has something to say in response to a post on this blog then, by all means, speak your mind. If all you're going to do, however, is pronounce feigned umbrage towards the writers of this blog then perhaps you're better off not reading at all. It would be like me going to a FOX News blog and simply writing how much I hate FOX News. If I don't like the blog why should I waste my time with it?
Rather than complain about what you're reading why not just decide not to read it?
THis blog has articles?
[THis blog has articles?]
If it doesn't have pictures, the ambulance chaser passes it up...
That's a good little doggy.
Bare your little teeth, snarl and growl.
Just stay focus, or lose your designation as Spanky's little doggy.
Woof, woof. :)
I'm SO jealous. ;-)
In the Middle:
What sets Elizabeth Warren apart from the other hacks is that the "talking points" are hers. She doesn't look elsewhere for direction. She knows what's right, which is good for all of us. She also knows what's wrong, which is very, very bad for the Wall Street looters who are trying desperately to squeeze the life out of the union.
That is one hell of a woman, one hell of a citizen, and she'd be the best Senator in the Senate the minute she took her oath.
Obama caught wind of this and told Lizzy to Cc him on anything she finds out.
Oh leave him alone - he's super busy practicing that super important jobs speech.
No rush, apparently.
SPANKY!!!!!!!!!! MUAH now I'll bend over and you return the favor but in a new location
Huzzah! Elizabeth Warren has apolitical morals. Too bad she'll run against one of the less-creepy Republicans, but as we spiral deeper into the politcal/vitriolic matrix, that's show-biz.
Warren is about as dynamic as "marsha coakley".....
Brown is one of the highest polling politicians in the country.
good luck to the dems
"Brown is one of the highest polling politicians in the country."
And in spite of that there are many on the far right of the far right that want to challenge him in a primary.
vwterry - unlike those on the far left who are looking to primary a certain someone.
This just might be an example of what Mixed referred to - Obama is not super popular over at Firedoglake anymore.
Yeah, wanting more regulation of banks and financial institutions. Dang, what in the world could possibly happen?
Certainly these institutions are not too big to fail, right.
Well, let's see what banking reform has brought us-
My hairdresser no longer takes credit cards. The fees went up so much as a result of the bill, she can't afford to take plastic.
Bank fees on checking accounts have gone from three to fourteen dollars a month.
And a friend of mine and her husband, who are buying a home, faced the most bizarre request I have ever heard. After providing proof in triplicate of their income and bank accounts, when the loan reviewers discovered that my friend was pregnant, they demanded a copy of the ultrasound- as proof she was not having a multiple birth.
If that's not the most ridiculous thing you ever heard, you're beyond thinking.
Really? You have hair?
Who knew....
The way you run around here daily with your head ablaze, we figured it was gone a long time ago...
[Well, let's see what banking reform has brought us-]
HoJoBloMo,
[Bank fees on checking accounts have gone from three to fourteen dollars a month.]
Hmmm...funny...I'm STILL getting free checking...

I agree...did your friends ask for a reason why this information is needed?
NoJO has total power over Feisty. Nojo comments, Feisty comes a' running like a little dog.
Speaking of little dogs...
ANY additional regulation is too much regulation for the Republicans and their paymasters in the corporate world. They'd like to go back to the glory days that sadly ended in 2007, when they could bundle all sorts of crap into "securities," S&P would rubber stamp it AAA, and then they could sell the AAA garbage to suckers. Ah, the good old days.
Houston:
She will give Brown a run for his money this time. She would make a good Senator.
So Elizabeth Warren calls for more regulation and Congress enacts it and now Elizabeth Warren isn't qualified to oversee the regulation? There is no person they would think qualified to oversee this except a person sworn to repeal it.
So I guess no Democrats receive any money from financial institutions. I guess they are all squeaky clean because the media do not report on their azzez.

COOL! Another right wing, nutjob conspiracy theory...
...will the entertainment never cease...
Focus little dog. I am disappointed.
Where's the love?
[...will the entertainment never cease...]
...speaking of entertainment...the clown car has arrived...
Spanky's little doggy goes "woof, woof"
Just stay focused little doggy. That's a good little doggy.
[I am disappointed.]
...then stop looking in your shorts...
GRRRRRR, goes the little doggy.
Good for you Elizabeth, I like your new website and have sent a donation to get the ball rolling
She'll make a fine Senator Gingerbread Mamma!
As an added bonus she's got Pat, Boston in her corner - you know she'll work hard to get her elected.
Sure you did...
I'm particularly fond of Elizabeth Warren as she was born and raised in Oklahoma. She may be living in MA now and probably has for some time, but she was raised on a farm and went to school in OK. Its nice to know Fiesty is supporting a country hick for a change.
Who's Fiesty?
Gingerbread:
I am glad to see you have money to waste.
Why don't you go feed that man walking up and down the street daily. He is hungry......I guess it is the Democrap way. Here politician take all I have and beat the Republican because I'm a democrat, the homeless and hungry will be here for a while....I know this because "I know everything" I was born a democrat...
Hey Gingerbread - you gonna go all republican and take a deduction for that donation?
Bad Gingerbread.
Maybe she can get her some of that Citizens United/AFSCME money, cause you know ads are super important these days.
Ginger Bread Mamma Knows. Of course she also knows, as she so eloquently set for in the journals of the Libs r us group, that I am her daddy.
Donate away, cause your support of politicians will likely make a difference, right? Sure it will.
They just could not possibly do it without your $5.
LibsRUs....lol
I believe he has their azz posted up out of that dewdropinn. That is where they go to get a blog strategy....lol...a blog strategy...lol
Hey maybe they can help Obama come up with either a bitch jobs plan, or a bitchin speech.
I would pay good money to hear Bev. play to a live audience. Feisty too. Could you just imagine?
Sadly, I'm guessing they are not the public speaking type.
[Donate away, cause your support of politicians will likely make a difference, right? Sure it will.]
Yep, like you've never donated...sure you didn't, Schpanky...and you claim it won't make a difference, yet you STILL donated?
Or he could legalize prosititution that way more jobs would be created and Feisty Skankhead would actually have to start paying taxes. More revenue...isn't that what everyone on the left is screaming about?
.
Just what we need in the Senate, another government knows best left wing nut. Hopefully the people of MASS will see through this Obama clone and reelect Scott Brown. When is the left wing nuts going to do something for themselves and quit asking the government to protect them from themselves. There were and are plenty of laws on the books that should have been enforced, but typical Washington only knows how to create more agencies, government jobs for their cronies and stymie businesses.
.
Spanky--do you support anyone politically? Or are you just here to demonstrate your intelligence? Do you think anyone should be in govt anymore or just you toolin' 'round throwin' dollar bills at the guy on the corner?
The oh-so-snoooty leftist Haavvad professa has the Island of maatha's vinyaad, all wrapped up in her column. (i speak like this, even though I left Moonbatachusetts many years ago)
The rest of the state, not so much. Warren will be studying hard on the issues- learning the history of the Red Sox and Patriots, to show she is one of the common folk.. She will show up early to shake hands outside fenway, to differentiate herself from the last loser moonbat Dem female Senate candidate.
Wont work--she will get crushed in the election by rising political GOP superstar Scott Brown.
Best political news of the day...
I think she would take Scott Brown down, and the State would be better off...but it's still too bad she was denied (by the party of NO) the top position on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Oh great another Mass fool about banking regulation... How much more damage will we allow this states representatives to do to the rest of this country??
"If she runs, it could pit Warren -- a liberal Harvard law professor who helped create the Obama administration's Consumer Financial Protection Bureau...... "
OH GREAT, let's elect another Liberal college professor because we see how great a leader Obama is ( NOT ).
In reading through the comments, one individual asked the question; what has bank reform brought us? The writer goes on to lament that their hairdresser no longer takes credit cards, fees are up... blah, blah, blah.
The answer is that bank reform has brought us nothing, but it is the reason that speaks volumes about Elizabeth Warren and her candidacy! The reform legislation implementation has been completely blocked by the Republicans. They refused to fund it, and then said Republicans would filibuster a Warren Nomination to head it. She led the fight for it, and if implemented, absent Republican efforts to water-it-down, would place great restraints on what banks can do to the consumer.
Senator Scott is a Republican and an astute politician. He knew that he would only be in the senate for a short period of time before facing another election in a heavily democratic state; he voted accordingly. The next senator elected in Massachusetts will serve a full six-year term. I believe his re-election would expose a politician more aligned with the interests of the wealthy and the BIG BANKS.
Republicans hate Elizabeth Warren because the BIG BANKS really hate Elizabeth Warren. That tells me she is on the side of everyday people, including the writer that complained about the banks and credit card charges. We need another vote for everyday citizens in the United States Senate. Elizabeth Warren will be that vote in a very consistent way!
You obviously know nothing about Banking and it's relationship to a healthy economy Mcmanus. That ridiculous Frank/Dodd bill has been the catylist for continued unemployment. All the time and money spent on the TARP program to stimulate the economy has basiccly been rendered useless by Obama/Warren's 2.5 year assault on banking. We need a better President in 2012 and less liberal college politicians.
One of us knows nothing about banking, I will give you that. Tarp was not money used to stimulate the economy. Tarp was the money spent to bring the banks back from financial ruin and bail-out the large investors, both foreign and domestic. It had nothing to do with stimulating the economy. It was a Bush program introduced by Secretary of the US Treasury Paulsen.
It was the largest socialistic program in the history of the world; designed by wealthy Republicans for even wealthier Republicans and its cost became part of the national debt to be paid by all taxpayers, but mostly the non-wealthy. Republicans think this debt should be borne by medicare and social security recipients.
The Tarp money would have been better spent at the racetrack; at least the American taxpayer would have had a shot at being reimbursed! Tarp and stimulus are totally different programs, get it.
