Christie's office denies he's conducting focus group for WH bid

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's (R) office shot down news -- reported by Newsweek’s Bloomberg’s Jonathan Alter -- that the governor is conducting focus groups in preparation of a possible White House bid.

"It's absolutely not true," Christie spokeswoman Maria Comella told First Read.

What is true, however, is that some members of the Republican establishment -- like Karl Rove -- are unsatisfied with a GOP presidential field consisting of Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, and Michele Bachmann.

That's why the buzz around Christie and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan has grown a little bit louder in recent days. There's an opening for another Republican to get into the race. The question -- about five months until the Iowa caucuses -- is whether it's too late.

I thought we cleared that up the other day - that's JS1's job! ;o)

No way Gov. Krispy Creme could waddle around the campaign trail for 15 months straight...

I'm still hoping that Bible Spice gets the robo-call from God and decides to jump into the circle jerk!

Yup that says it all about the intelligence level. When people are reduced to quoting Vanilla Ice I just have to wonder. Everyone knows Christie isn't running, that's because he will be VP for Marco Rubio, but just to make sure we know you are stupid, it has to be turned into an attack on other posters...sigh......

Everyone on yahoo ehh? So by that mean you also see the comments are completely sided to the Republicans. Including the Ron Paul cult of worship?

Also you libbies may need some therapy, since you seem obsessed with circle jerking, kind of reminds me of Warren Jeffs whacking 15 times a day.

Ryan may see some handwriting on the wall. The results of the recall in part of his own district last night -- Kenosha -- could not have been encouraging. His own hometown, Janesville, has turned on him for his refusal to support the GM bailout. And his entire district voted 60/40 blue in the recent Supreme Court election.

Not to mention that at least one viable candidate has announced intention to run against him -- a candidate from Kenosha, as a matter of fact, which is the largest population center in Ryan's district.

As I observed earlier, at least if he pretends he's running for President, he might get a nice job with Fox News after the election.

    AM

All I can find is the Talking Point memo

The survey finds Ryan with a personal favorability rating of 41%, with 46% unfavorability. In a hypothetical presidential match-up, President Obama leads Ryan by a margin of 50%-43%. The survey of Wisconsin registered voters was conducted from May 19-22, and has a ±2.4% margin of error.

If you look at Obama's approval right now, I don't think Mr Ryan has anything to worry about. Let's wait for th next real poll on it.

How could we have a Super Majority with people like Joe Lieberman and Nelson. Lieberman is a fawning cretin and Nelson is about as conservative as McConnell. That's the only problem with an all inclusive Democratic Party, we accept everybody.

I got to say though, I'd rather have divergent points of view than be monlithic and a lemming.

Just what is this further collapse you speak of and how does just removing him save us?

      B. Obama has not put the rich before country.

You are correct Mickey, it was 4 years. 2007 - 2010 but from the time the one got in, jan 2009 until jan 2011, repubs could not stop any thing. Remember all of the behind closed door crap for transparancy? "Gotta pass it to see what is in it"

sonmanvb - Say what? You need to educate yourself on what constitutes a super majority for beginners. Once that onerous task has been fulfilled come on back so we can have discussion rather than just rely on your uninformed opinion. Also let me refresh your addled memories. From Jan 2008 till Jan 19th of 2010, the sitting and inept Dumbiyah had his crayons on the ready to veto any Democratic legislation, which in fact he did. Uncle Dick Vader and Turdblossom introduced Shrub to the concept of wielding veto power. For "W's" first 6 years in office not one veto was employed on his rubber-stamp Repub Congress. Your reference to "Gotta pass it to see what is in it", only was employed on the HCR legislation. Let me know when your ready. (cricket noises have begun)

You need to follow my advise to "sonmanvb" about finding what constitutes a super majority. Are all Cornservatudes so lacking of such a commonly understood Congressional terminology. Ummm, no...it was about six months...but let's take a look at that "super-majority", shall we?

          January 3, 2009 - 111th Congress sworn in. 55 Democrats, 41
          Republicans, 2 Independents, 2 vacant.

January 15, 2009 - Roland Burris sworn in to Barack Obama's seat.
          56 Democrats, 41 Republicans, 2 Independents, 2 vacant.

          April 30, 2009 – Arlen Specter changes parties. 57 Democrats, 40
          Republicans, 2 Independents, 1 vacant.

          July 7, 2009 – Al Franken seated. 58 Democrats, 40 Republicans, 2
Independents. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THE DEMOCRATS HAD A SHOT AT A
          60-VOTE MAJORITY
          .

August 25, 2009 – Teddy Kennedy dies. Kennedy had missed 97% of
the votes in 2009 and over 90% in the last half of 2008. 57 Democrats, 40
          Republicans, 2 Independents, 1 vacant.

September 25, 2009 – Paul Kirk appointed to Teddy Kennedy's seat.
58 Democrats, 40 Republicans, 2 Independents.THIS IS THE SECOND TIME
THE DEMOCRATS HAD A SHOT AT A 60-VOTE MAJORITY.

February 4, 2010 – Scott Brown sworn in to replace Paul Kirk. 57
          Democrats, 41 Republicans, 2 Independents.

June 28, 2010 – Robert Byrd dies. Byrd had missed over 90% of the
votes in 2010 and almost 50% in 2009 due to illness. 56 Democrats, 41
          Republicans, 2 Independents, 1 vacant.

November 29, 2010 - Mark Kirk sworn in to replace Roland Burris.
          56 Democrats, 42 Republicans, 2 Independents.

FACT: The "Democrat supermajority" was a myth, or
rather, a GOP political spin to hide their actions.

FACT: The GOP used every roadblock, filibuster, and secret hold
they could think of so that EVERY bill had to have a 60-vote margin to pass.

So that "Huge, overwhelming super-majority," It existed only for a total of 6 months AND only duringv two periods when Teddy Kennedy and/or Robert Byrd were unable to vote AND required them to get the votes of every Democrat plus BOTH independents.

Anyone who encourages Christy to run is two brains short of an IQ of 30. When a party is desperate enough to put the country into the hands of a Super Unhealthy Guy along with his Baggage ie;

          • Against the Carbon Trading Program after rading the RGGI Funds
          • Christie withdraws from Successful Climate Initiative
          • Implements Anti-Union Bill Restricting Collective Barganing Rights for Workers
          • Member of the Education Program who presented the Admin with In Accurate Numbers, Christy accused the President of doing something wrong, however, the Admin had it on TAPE, Christy's Education guy said he told Christy the numbers were wrong, but he said present them anyway, Christy fired the guy did not stand behind him
          • CHristy first order of Business was to hand out $1 Billion to families who earned $400,000+ the Richest 2% then he he pushed all the painful Budget Cuts on the Middle Class, Public Servants, Schools & the Poor. Sound Familiar?
          • Middle Class Families will see most of their Property Tax Rebates Dissapear, they will pay more for college tutition, to ride buses, trains, schools and towns will drive up property taxes even more
          • The Budget Cut $45 Million From the Poor "Wage Subsidy Program For The Working Poor"
          • It bars parents from Health Care Programs that will directly hit poor kids and pinches housing aid for the poor

So if you want an Unhealthy Guy, A Wrecking Ball, Smart Mouth who talks to Old 78 retired teacher with disrespect he's your guy. Trying to live and take care of your family in this rescession is No Joking Matter, which this guy finds too often

Name calling is childish (I don't want to hear the often stated "well the republicans did it first about Obama." Disagreeeing with someone's policies, but try to give an intelligent reason about why a candidate shouldn't be elected. Not voting for a candidate because he is fat or likes doughnuts is juvenile.

We haven't had a man in the White House the size of Gov. Christie since the days of "Big Bill Taft".

Bg Bill had to have a special bathtub installed in the White House because of his size. Big Bill was also the first president to throw out the first ball to start the major league baseball season. Big Bill was the first and only American to be president and a member of the SCOTUS. Obama will win in 2012. Things will be booming in 2012. Fed. Interest rates at 4%. When people refinance their 5% mortages at 4% they will have a lot more discretionary income (about $1,000 per year for every $100,000 refinanced). But they will pay a portion of their saving in higher income taxes (because their interest deduction declines by the amount of lower interest costs). Also good ...lower US deficit. And if the politicians and fed put a program together where people WITH GOOD CREDITcould refiance at their current loan amount (but the lower interest rates) without regard to the curent apprasied value of their homes, things would really take off.

I would have never thought that I would ever have agreed with Carl Rove of all people, but judging by the Republicans that are running for office, President Obama's gonna win in a landslide.

It is because Republicans don't have anybody whose NOT a crook?

Don't dig up Paul Ryan because he's NOT a viable candidate either.

I do kinda like Chris Christie, but then I liked Mike Huckabee too but Republicans won't let their popular candidates have the nomination.

Republicans do NOT nominate a Republican to run that has cross-over potential or that Independents and even Democrats could vote for -- Republicans like to pick the farthest right wing wacko they can find that's only going to get the other hard core wackos votes, which is great for President Obama.

No electable candidates. Rove may be unscrupulous but he is not an idiot. 2012 is coming up quickly and Republicans do not have a viable candidate. Rubio and Ryan are too Green and inexperienced. Christie tried for 10 years to get elected in New Jersey and that is his dream job and he is not about to give it up. Personally, I am hoping Perry gets the nod and picks Larry Craig as his V.P. mainly for the entertainment value.
