Perry calls idea of U.S.-Mexico border wall 'ridiculous'

Rick Perry called the idea of a wall across the entire U.S.-Mexico border “ridiculous” today in a stop in New Hampshire.

“You got strategic fencing in some of the metropolitan areas – it’s very helpful,” the Texas governor said. “But the idea that you’re going to build a wall from Brownsville to El Paso is just -- it’s ridiculous on its face.”

That was in the context of Perry saying how he'd asked Washington for 1,000 National Guard troops and how current efforts at border security are ineffective.

Perry swatted at the Obama administration’s assertion that the “border is safer than it’s ever been.”

“Six week ago, the president went to El Paso and sai the border is safer than it’s ever been,” Perry began. “I have no idea, maybe he was talking about the Canadian border. I will assure you one thing, if I’m president of the United States, the border will be secure.”

In June, the AP wrote of the border:

“It's one of the safest parts of America, and it's getting safer. … The four big cities in America with the lowest rates of violent crime are all in border states: San Diego, Phoenix, El Paso and Austin, according to a new FBI report. And an in-house Customs and Border Protection report shows that Border Patrol agents face far less danger than street cops in most U.S. cities. The Customs and Border Protection study, obtained with a Freedom of Information Act request, shows 3 percent of Border Patrol agents and officers were assaulted last year, mostly when assailants threw rocks at them. That compares with 11 percent of police officers and sheriff's deputies assaulted during the same period, usually with guns or knives. In addition, violent attacks against agents declined in 2009 along most of the border for the first time in seven years. So far this year assaults are slightly up, but data is incomplete.”

What Perry says is fine-for Texas..but the border runs beyond Texas..to New Mexico and Arizona..Perry-being new to the United state-his vision has always been clouded byTexas-probablyhasn't realized that there are other state in the union yet..After all hieonly discovred Iowa this week and also New Hampshire..he has a hazy idea of where South Carlonia is..by the way, did they take him ona tour of Fort Sumter yet?

He may have to find out the hard way who won the Civil War...

The article referred to building a wall across the entire 3,000 miles of the U.S. - Mexico border, not just Texas. As for Perry finding the other states, I think his early approval rating speaks for itself. What's clear is that the other states are finding him, and liking him, all while Obama's poll numbers continue to tank.

For all the criticism on here regarding Perry, where's the critique of our current President and his failed efforts to control the illegal immigration problem? Or, has his administration been too busy with the Fast and Furious project supplying guns to the drug cartels? Perry is saying nothing more and offering no more platitudes than our current President. Funny how the libs can find fault with a GOP candidate who's just begun to make promises, yet, can't find fault with someone who gave us speech after speech and promise after promise and has failed miserably (except Obamacare) to deliver on any of them.

        TO :American Girl-724855

        Per your comments:

Yes, and the second line says that the United States shall provide for the general welfare of the American People, but half the Republicans never read that far, and the other half thinks that means "welfare check."

        WRONG!!!! NO IT DOES NOT!!!

The Preamble of the US Constitution states the following:

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Note the "second line". THE WORD IS PROMOTE.........NOT PROVIDE!!! THERE IS A MASSIVE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TO WORDS HALFWIT!!! That has been THE flaw in Liberal logic for a long time. Liberals think that the government is to provide for the welfare of its citizens!!!! DEAD WRONG!!! PROMOTE is the word. It means help or nurture, not provide or supply. THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY NOT THE SAME THING!!!

DOES THAT HELP? Gee, I mean at least TRY reading and thinking before you take a stand.

You stand corrected. You are welcome. I hope you will actually THINK a little more next time and maybe if you do that, you will see just how wrong Liberalism really is and turn away from it. We simply cannot afford that kind of stupidity any more. TargetDestroyed01

Rick Perry is deeply involved with the dominationism group. This is a group of religions fanatics that want to circumvent the Constitution and put in its place, the laws of the Old Testament. Look it up, and thank God for the internet. Perry, Bachmann and Palin are all deeply influnced by the doctrines of this group. Members of this group were in attendance at Perry's " Prayer meeting" in Houston last week. Are these the people that you want to be leading this Country?

Walls don't work. Didn't work for the Romans, didn't work for the Chinese and guess what it still ant going to work. Sometimes even an idiot can say something that make sense. Not calling Perry an idiot but history shows that walls has never worked.

The Liberal media LIES because they can't tell the truth. What would the truth sound like? Things like......"Obama has no plan that's why he gave 9 speeches about JOBS and has yet to put a plan out there. " OR, " After claiming transparency, Obamacare was shoved down your throats and crafted by DEMS ONLY behind closed doors for 18 months. " OR, "We promised a fix to Illegal Immigration but we decided to just talk about it because the Hispanics will probably vote for us ANYWAY." OR, "We know Biden is the dumbest man in politics ( a gaff machine) but we call all the Repubs DUMB, especially the women, because we liberals own the media and the stupid electorate buys it."

If Obama really wanted, he could easily make a major dent in the influx of illegals that use taxpayers services as SSI, SS, food stamps, welfare and many more to include degrad Americans jobs and our living standards, raise insurances of all types, degrade neighborhoods if he would simply by signing E- verify. Take the jobs away, don't give services with out citizenship. Remove the reason to come. The savings would boost local and Federal cash starved agency's. How many fruit pickers do we need anyway?
