Texas Gov. Rick Perry made his candidacy for president official this morning by filing the necessary documents with the Federal Election Commission to seek the presidency in 2012.
This morning, the Federal Election Commission received a Form 2 "Statement of Candidacy" from Rick Perry and his committee, RICKPERRY.ORG, INC, which was prepared on Friday, August 12. (Here's a pdf of the document.)
Received at 9:59 am, the document is signed, "James R. 'Rick' Perry" and was prepared and signed on Saturday, 8/13/11, the same day Perry announced his run at the RedState bloggers conference in Charleston, S.C.
Notably, this was filed before Perry's speech at the Des Moines Register's Soap Box event. NBC's Alex Moe reported earlier this week that the Register required candidates to be officially declared before they allowed them to speak.
The form lists Perry’s Treasurer as Salvatore Purpura, who worked in the treasurer's division of John McCain’s 2008 campaign and President George W. Bush’s 2004 re-election campaign.

After 2.5 years of Obama's poor leadership we are left with a dysfuctional government and worse economy than when he started. His current re-ellection message is the same as '08. "it's sombody elses fault--blah blah blah" Change is needed! If the Democrats can't come up with a better candidate in 2012 than Obama it's going to have to come from another party. The Dow is up about 200 and the S&P 500 is slightly over 1200. Asian and European markets were up nicely today. Anyone that missed the Barry debt downgrade buying opportunity is probably out of luck now.

Ron Paul came in 2nd in the straw poll, and does similarly in other polls, too. His supporters are zealots, but are few in number, and some of Paul's Libertarian ideas don't go over well with certain religious conservatives. So I suspect Paul will do about as well in 2012 as he did in 2008.
Don't forget, Paul once ran for President in the Libertarian party, and that doesn't go over well with the Republican stalwarts, either.

I remember that interview. Steve Wynn, CEO of Wynn resorts international, stated that this administration has acted like a wet blanket on business investment. No wonder nobody is hiring with all the uncertainty that this administration generates. Hioring will pick up dramatically once Obama is given the boot.
Well, if any of the Republicans wins the Presidency in 2012, they'll push for lower taxes for the rich, ignoring the fact that a decade of Bush tax cuts (still in effect!) has lead to record deficits, a huge national debt, and the current economic malaise. They'd also push for "deregulation"- including regulations designed to prevent the financial shenanigans that caused the Wall Street meltdown - thus ignoring the reasons those regulations were enacted in the first place.
They'd try to shrivel Government and would eagerly lay off hundreds of thousands of Government employees, thus directly increasing unemployment.
But most importantly, they'd avidly pursue the policies that encouraged companies to offshore jobs and import cheap goods, and that would do nothing to bring jobs back. The result, of course, would be even higher unemployment, but they'd be totally unconcerned as long as profits went up for the Rich.
But the bright side is that disapproval of the Republicans in Congress is at an all-time high, so even in the unlikely event that a Republican becomes President, he/she will likely face a Democratic controlled Congress, possibly sufficient to override all the vetos.
... and bear in mind that the Republican president will encounter the same level of cooperation from the "loyal opposition" that our current president is getting from the republicans. The gridlock is already guaranteed so absolutely nothing will be done to address the jobs situation.... hiring WILL NOT pick up. That "uncertainty" that everyone keeps clamoring about is only going to get worse.

On the subject of prayer, allow me to share a word of wisdom from the great architect and thinker Buckminster Fuller. "I don't pray, because I don't believe God is looking for recommendations from me." I woud hope that the president we elect has a better strategy in mind than the one Rick Perry introduced last week, - pray for Divine intervention.
Well, there are similarities between GW Bush and Rick Perry - both are brash egotistical Texans, both were Governor of Texas, both were cheerleaders, both have a "win at all costs" mentality, both favor the rich over all others, both had substantial help from their wealthy friends.
But there are some differences - Bush could speak Spanish, Bush never called for Texas (or any other state) to secede from the Union, Bush was not prejudiced against Muslims (and actually had some Muslim friends), and most importantly, Bush has a better Grade Point Average. If that last one doesn't frighten you, then you're a typical anti-intellectual Teapartier.

He did help support the end of communism in eastern Europe. He has favored progressive organizations, which I guess you think are evil incarnate. The Koch brothers, on the other hand, would like to end all regulations that prevent them from making more money. Just one example. They funded Prop 19 in California, that would have suspended environmental regulations that require additional processing of oil from Canadian tar sands. This was pushed as a job initiative, but it actaully would have allowed them to lay off the people in their refineries that do the processing and increase their profits. If you spend the time to check out both sides, you will see that Mr. Soros is a philantropist, a self-made rich guy who gives money to causes he believes in without any regard to increasing his wealth. The Koch brothers are modern pirates, using their inherited weath to make more money at any cost to society.

Why is it that people like that can impose their will over Americans. Why is it that they can use their wealth to spread propaganda to their advantage and destroy America? We have people who are scared to death that Sharia Law may one day be imposed on this nation. Not a chance! How many of those same people are in favor of a Constitutional Amendment defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman only because that's what The Bible intended?
The problem with voting for any candidate based on what you perceive to be their religious beliefs is you are doomed to disappointment.
Dan needs to get out more and quit painting progressives with such a wide brush. Guess what, Dan? Separation of church and state protects BOTH the church and the state. My Southern Baptist minister preached a whole series of sermons on this topic. I don't mind that Perry is a Christian. What I mind is that others might look at his touting his religious beliefs and then try to square that up with his blatant disregard for the environment (for example; one could also mention problems with his pro-death penalty stance, his lack of concern for immigrants, the poor, teachers, etc., etc., etc.). I would think that "conservative Christian" candidates and voters would care more about taking care of this beautiful earth that God has given us dominion over (see Genesis). The EPA doesn't just regulate businesses--it protects people. When it protects animals that people eat, that protects people. If you pollute an area until it's unusable, you haven't been a very good steward of your resources, have you? If you pollute an area so that it will take millions to clean up, you've actually wasted money, haven't you? How pro-life is it to endanger the lives of people by allowing sloppy businesses to pollute our environment?
Perhaps it is just me, but I can't stand the one leg up on the stack of hay pose. Just the other day when Romney had his little spat with a Voter where he declared Corporations as people, he stayed in that position the whole time he was arguing with the person.
The more rated R version of that scene just seemed like Romney would just give up and say something like "...awe, f#)@#* it anyway! It's nice to hear all this from the Governor of a state that ranked 2nd in taking money from the Obama Stimulus then claims it's a Texas Miracle. I also appreciate his accounting skills that hide this so-called Texas Miracle behind some voodoo economics that will leave Texas in a big deal of hurt starting in 2013. Even if religion mattered in selecting a President, my understanding of Christ's teaching puts Rick Perry among the rich and flashy Pharisees and Saduccees that besmirch God's name with their hypocrisy and "look at me" attitude...all the while Texas' poor are living in deteriorating conditions and in one of the worst health care situations in the country.
Gov. Perry comes from a long line of Southern Democrats. He was a Democrat until 1989. He ran Al Gore's campaign in Texas. Then he went over to the dark side. The best thing about Gov. Perry is that his wife is a nurse.

I aree that Perry is Bush 11, but sorry, I can't go there for Ron Paul. He may be a nice old man but, his time has come and gone. He needs to start thinking about retirement. We cannot go back to living in the last century. He absolutely could never get his ideas past Congress.
