Obama agenda: Trying to win back hearts in the heartland

“Trading Washington’s hothouse for states critical to his reelection prospects, President Obama is headed to the Midwest after a summer of discontent over a protracted debt showdown with Republicans and the downgrade in the nation’s credit rating,” the AP writes.

“President Obama, itching to spend more time outside of Washington, begins a three-day bus tour of the Midwest on Monday afternoon in Minnesota,” The Hill adds, calling the trip to Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois “essentially the first campaign swing of his 2012 reelection effort.”

Bracketing Obama: RNC Chairman Reince Priebus has his own bus tour. And the RNC is putting up radio ads in Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois.

Would letting the tax cuts for the 'rich' expire make much difference?

Actually, letting the tax cuts expire for the 'rich' is estimated by the Treasury Department to raise an average of only about $70 Billion per year over the next 10 years, and Obama's estimate (2012 Budget projections) of the Deficit for this year is $1,645 Billion, which would still leave a Deficit of $1,570 Billion. That means that only about 4% of the Deficit is caused by the 'tax cuts for the rich', while 96% of the Deficit is caused by OVERSPENDING'. Here's the link to Obama's projections - See Table S-1;

http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/budget/fy2012/assets/tables.pdf

PS - The projected 'cuts' in spending for fiscal year 2012 resulting from the 'negotiations' between Obama and Boehner will amount to only about $20 Billion out of a projected spending Budget of about $3,729 Billion (see link above), which is about one half of one percent. And the Democrats are still crying that it will 'devastate' the poor??????????

Give me a break.

Welcome Mr. President to Cannon Falls MN. You will have a full house for your town hall meeting. 800 people who wanted tickets were turned away yesterday after all the tickets were given out.

Will listen to your remarks on the radio while I am at work.

Unlike Mr. Bush, the people are not "pre-sorted dems". I have been to the Presidents rallies and the tickets are first come first served. That is a fact.

Job1 When you bye tickets and go see Barry play golf, those are Gallary tickets. What Reality Check was talking about were those town hall meetings where he dribbles in and misses a layup, gets in front of microphone and teleprompter dribbles some more, waves to the crowd and misses another layup on the out. Gallup Poll, Barry's approval rating drops to 39%, lowest in his term so far. We in the Tea Party love it when he is on tour, he is not spending us blind and he is losing numbers in his approval ratings. Go barry, go barry keep going til the Tea Party tells you to stop.

Don't waste your time coming to Georgia.  After what you have done in less than three years it is scary what could happen in four more. The American people need to ask one question.  Are we better of now than three years ago, and the answer is hell no.  Since you are the President you are responsible.  Stop blaming everyone else for you inability to understand the way business works.  As Donald Trump says, You're fired.

       It's the economy stupid !!

That is where Obama should have concentrated his efforts, instead of Obamacare, a phony stimulus package that included bailing out Wall Street and the banks. Pursuing the same old reckless foreign policy as Bush.....

And making lot's of promise's to the Anerican people that he could NOT keep.

      Robert,

I agree. I think of the situation that Obama was handed in Jan 2009 as a house with basement walls/foundation that were leaking, a leaking roof, electrical problems... what did Obama do? He wasted what, 15+ months installing granite countertops (aka Obamacare) in the kitchen.

What a joke - a higher % still don't want it - 27 states + 1400 waivers. If Obama wants to see his tanking #s rise, he should act like a man and kill the law and the regulations, tell the NRLB to back off Boeing (but hey, Obama is all about jobs).

He (Obama) should do one more thing... listen to the private sector and consider doing "business" their way - his ideas don't work so what does he have to lose?

And finally Mr. President -- STOP blaming everyone else for your lousy record. Be a leader for a change.

So what you?re saying Krell, is the President should go back to what got us in this mess we're in now. A true tea people GOP, do the same thing over and over and hope for a better out come this time. That's called insanity Krell.

        #7.3 - Mon Aug 15, 2011 12:42 PM EDT

        Mo

What I'm saying is Obama's ideas don't work - if they were going to, we would see some real evidence. Listen to those that actually know something about industry - not Axlerod and that bunch.

The economy is always, always the #1 priority. How many CEOs and economists do you listen too? Just about all of them say the same thing... kill Obamacare and the regs, stop talking about taxes and get out of the way. I'm an electrical engineer in the power industry... your hero has just about killed it.

Why doesn't Obama listen to Bill Clinton? BC said the corporate rate needs to be lowered. I also think Obama should set an example and fire Jeff Imelt. How can anyone defend $0 in GE taxes yet since BO and Jeff are BFFs, they defend it. Even Daley said how can one defend the indefensible.

Insanity is Obama doing the same thing. I hear guys like Alan Colmes, Matthews and Krugman talk about spending trillions more... it all comes down to who is going to pay. I guess that the US borrows $4.1 Billion /day is not enough - right?

By the way, I'm just a conservative guy. I am not nor know anyone in the TP. It is true that unemployment was 4.6% in Dec 2006 (the good old days) - the Dems take over and (if I recall) Obama was handed a 7.9% rate and a AAA rating in Jan 2009. After almost 3 years of nonsense from a guy that thinks business is evil (or whatever) we have 15% unemployment and AA rating.

Vote for Obama - from your posting, I know he is your hero. He will (if we let him) steal your money and give it to illegals, deadbeats and losers - and unions. I don't appreciate that one bit.

I would give Obama some respect if for once he would stop blaming everyone and everything else... he is the leader and leaders take charge and responsibility. Say what you want about Bush but twhen it comes to being a leader, there is no comparison. Obama doesn't have a clue.

So far he has blamed the tsunami in Japan, Arab Spring, the economic crisis in Europe, and the so called debt ceiling debate that has caused our problem. Buck up Mr. President and admit you are in over your head and you have no idea of how to get out of it.
