Listening to these idiots is about as exciting as watching water boil...

Obama this Obama that - notice NO ONE is talking about their own specifics?

Sounds a whole lot like NJNB & JS1 running from thread to thread with their hair on fire! lol

Domenico - "It's a winnowing process"

Will the last straw standing please turn off the lights.

Will the last straw standing please turn off the lights.

I fell off my chair laughing last night, when NBC did a segment on 'corn kernal' voting!

Missed that - shucks.

But I caught Colbert's 'cornography'.

I saw that. Corn kernal voting in Iowa is a tradition. Iowa's own version of a poll. It's actually a better indicator of what most people are thinking than the Straw Poll.

    Thanks Jody!

Is it free or do you have to pay for that too?

So, you would rather continue with a half breed socialist from Chicago/Hawaii, rather that have a religious Texan?

Give me the Texas guy every time.

August 1979 - George H.W. Bush wins Ames Straw Poll. Ronald Reagan wins the GOP nomination and becomes president.

August 1987 - Pat Robertson wins Ames Straw Poll. George H.W. Bush wins the GOP nomination and becomse president.

August 1995 - Bob Dole and Phil Gramm tie atop Ames Straw Poll. Bob Dole wins the GOP nomination but loses in the General Election to Bill Clinton.

August 1999 - George W. Bush wins the Ames Straw Poll. He later wins the GOP nomination and wins in the General Election (sort of).

August 2007 - Mitt Romney wins the Ames Straw Poll. John McCain wins the GOP nomination but loses in the General Election to Barack Obama.

So, really, only 2 out of 5 times has it been able to correctly indicate who the eventual nominee would be.

We agree on this one Noid. The straw poll is meaningless.

Here's the point, you are correct that the person who finishes FIRST does not always win, but no one who's finished THIRD has ever won the caucuses. So, the top two lines historically at Ames DO indicate strength.

In the video, Dominic says that no one won the "Iowa caucuses" without finishing top 2 in the straw poll. That is correct. HW Bush was the straw poll and the caucus in 79. in 87, Dole finished second in the straw poll and won the caucuses. In 95, Dole tied the straw poll and won the caucus. In 99, W won the poll and the caucus. In 07, Huck finished second and won the caucus. The caption on this site is wrong because they say the eventual GOP nominee finishes in the top 2. That is clearly wrong as McCain finished tenth in the straw poll in 07 and not much better in 99. Neither the Ames straw poll or the Iowa caucus is a strong predictor on who is going to win the nomination.

Missy, good afternoon. I have a silly question on this silly sat.

Does Perry wear a hair piece? Saw him on television giving his speech. It sure looks like an expensive hair piece to me. but I could be wrong.

I thought it was a hair-helmet holding equipment that sends and receives messages from prayer meetings and, of course, Yahweh.

            Afternoon Northstar,

Naw, I don't think Big Ricky drew the short straw on the hair front. That is pure Perry pompador to my knowledge. I think he just took hair combing lessons from Donald Trump. Might have picked up an addiction to hairspray along the way though. He IS a stand and model type of guy, if you know what I mean. The mirror is his best friend and he spends a lot of time in front of it.

Have a great day! They just announced Michelle took the straw from all the boys.

One last thing, I just got my first glimpse of Mrs. Perry, believe it or not. I live here in Texas and had no idea what she looked like until today as he was announcing. Goes with Perry's MO though; those evengelical types usually put women in the backseat while they drive, socially speaking that is.

So just out of curiosity, is female-female loyalty so strong that women approve of Bachmann even though she's as stupid as Sister Sarah and twice as crazy?

Perry only got where he is thanks to the oil barons in texas who are raking in billions as we the people are paying how much for a gallon of gas and paying how much for our heating bills in the winter? Yeah, Rick, another bought and paid for politician, who has also pledged to sign Grover's pledge of allegiance. Gee Rick, and whose interests are you really out to protect, the people of this country or the oil barons who are bank rolling you.
