CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Whatever you call it -- a "shake-up," a "game change," a "political earthquake," or "a new face on the scene" -- it's happening. Gov. Rick Perry is officially in the presidential race.
Speaking to a crowded hotel ballroom of conservative bloggers and more than 100 members of the media in South Carolina, the Texas governor unveiled a new tagline of his presidential contest: "It is time to get America working again."
'That's why, with the support of my family and unwavering belief in the goodness of America, I declare to you today as a candidate for president of the United States," he said.
Perry's remarks focused squarely on America's economic situation, and he held the Obama administration flatly responsible for sluggish job growth and the recent downgrade of the country's credit rating by Standard and Poor's.
"One in six work-eligible Americans cannot find a full-time job," Perry said. "That is not a recovery -- that is an economic disaster."
Highlighting his background as the son of tenant farmers who grew up in a tiny Texas town wearing clothes hand-sewn by his mother, Perry -- with a characteristic Texas twang -- said that Washington lawmakers are detached from the everyday lives of American citizens.
"I promise you this," he said to rousing cheers. "I'll work every day to try to make Washington, D.C., as inconsequential in your life as I can."
The Texas governor's entry is all but certain to jolt the base voters of other candidates in the GOP field and ensure dramatic competition in early contest states Iowa and South Carolina. His pitch to the evangelical Christian community, on full display last weekend at his 30,000-strong day of prayer and fasting in Houston, could pull support from Iowa front-runner Rep. Michele Bachmann. And his record of job creation in Texas, which will serve as a key selling point for his national campaign, will be measured against the tenure of other former statewide officials in the race like perceived front-runner and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
Texas Governor Rick Perry announces his presidential candidacy while speaking to a crowd of supporters in Charleston, S.C., on Saturday.

Why I'm SHOCKED! I never saw THAT one coming!
Well, at least now the freak show is complete!
Unless, Bible Spice decides to jump into the cesspool!
Perry/Palin 2012 - it doesn't get any crazier then that! lol
FR: Perry "I promise you this," he said to rousing cheers. "I'll work every day to try to make Washington DC as inconsequential in your life as I can."
We already saw him do that to Texas. Besides he has a little problem with the English language. Rick Perry thinks Social Security and Medicare are unConstitutional.
Feisty..... on come on... the freak show is NOT complete. Bailin Palin is STILL on the sidelines!
Maybe Perry will pray for jobs. It will be more that anything else his party has tried.
Right: just what America needs. A President of the United States who thinks the US Federal government is the enemy of its citizens: and one dumb enough to think Americans have already forgotten the devastation lax regulation in just one sector: the banking and financial industries, has already done. A nation like Texas?? No thanks...we've seen what one Texan right winger could do in just 8 short years to this country. No need for more.
i don't get whats wrong with being religious.
Feisty, start with your annilihation attempt. Not gonna' work. Here's a guy that guess what, unlike Obama the fraud, Perry loves this country. We're comin' to get you libs.
We'll be right here waiting for you sweetie! lol
Count on it!
Nothing... as long as you don't try to interject your beliefs into government.
Oh... and also... don't offer up prayer as a viable solution to the economy... that's all.
Remember to write in Parry, with an A like in America or Iowa. lol
Darwin- do you love this country? You do realize the country that you live in was built off of the backs of the people that you hate so much...and by the way Darwin was wrong...Instead of me protecting the theory of religion, why don't you protect the theory of Darwin's...or is there a Frisbee game or hacky sack circle somewhere?
There's nothing wrong with being religious. Just don't push your beliefs to non-religious people.
But as history has shown in the past 2000 years, religion has not been very forgiving to different ideas hasn't it? They don't do what they preach don't they? You know, show your enemy the other cheek?
Yeah, this guy is NOT tolerant of other religions, I'd shudder to see what he would do with more power in his grip.
Perry signed the Norquist pledge:
http://s3.amazonaws.com/atrfiles/files/files/State%20Taxpayer%20Protection%20Pledge%20List_CURRENT_2011(17).pdf
As soon as that fact takes center stage, he'll be hammered on it by Obama in the general election debate if he gets the nomination. Might be fine for Tea Party fanatics, but traditional, establishment GOP may take issue with it.
Mitt Romney hasn't signed it. And hes a LOT more "establishment" than Perry.
If this guy is the anointed Teabagger candidate Obama will have a field day!!
Woooot!
Well, scratch that.... LOL
Apparently even Romney said he "will sign" Norquists pledge:
http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/168181-romney-will-sign-norquists-anti-tax-pledge
Seems the "establishment" has been fully consumed. Why would ANYONE want a POTUS who places a pledge to an outside interest above the pledge to their office and country?
These guys aren't real Americans. They're puppets.
Throw the koch paid bums out.
"I promise you this," he said to rousing cheers. "I'll work every day to try to make Washington DC as inconsequential in your life as I can."
He actually said that? As if not having a government that benefits it's people is a good thing? I just don't get how people can buy into that. Putting someone in charge of government that hates government, especially in a country the size of this one, will be the downfall of this country.
As an Independent voter who voted for Bush Sr. Clinton, Bush Jr. Once and who supported Hillary during the last primaries, I can tell you the Republican Party has not yet supplied a Candidate that has any chance with Independents. I have nothing against religion as long as you don't shove it down my throat. I guess Ron Paul needs to run as an Independent and BTW he is the only Conservative that actually walks the walk.. Perry is just a stuffed suit talking box for Corporate America, not much different the Romney.
God this is going to be sooooo funny come the day after election day! Im almost tempted to do nothing except screen print the Gimme Gimme gang on here's comments and responses for that special day! Nawwww I cant do that! I would miss out on too much of the fun!
Patriotism, the last refuge of a scoundrel!
So very interesting that Perry is running on such a religious agenda. Talk about someone being a fraud. Now Annie get to the store and buy that Prada. Someone needs to help the economy.
Perry’s been appealing to Christian conservatives — a lot. He’s even hosting a day of prayer and fasting in Houston on Aug. 6, financed by the American Family Association, a vehemently anti-homosexual group.
National media will be looking for overlaps betwen Perry’s political donations and the grants he oversees, his appointments, record, and character. Partnering with the anti-gay group will tee him up for re-inspection of a widespread but never-proven rumor about a gay affair.
That 2004 rumor spread around the world, although no mainstream media had been able to corroborate it. But it became so pervasive that Perry asked Austin American-Statesman reporter Ken Herman to interview him so he could deny it.
Perry said he’d faced several opponents “who have probably gone through my background about as well as you can.” The former Air Force pilot compared his political career to “a bombing mission. … The missiles come up on a regular basis.”
Running for president, the warheads may be bigger.
From the Fort Worth Weekly
He's right........we do need MUCH LESS Washington government. We need more States Rights. I am so sick of the government line "We're the government and we're here to help you." Right. You're here to tell me what I can and cannot do and you're here to take away my money and my right to think for myself. Washington, be damned.
Maybe a prayer or two wouldn't hurt, anyhow. Nothing else seems to be working.
"We cannot and must not endure four more years of rising unemployment, rising
taxes, rising debt and rising energy dependence on nations that intend us harm,"
Perry said.
He is right on! We can not afford these things. Unless the people in power have any real solutions they need to get out of the way. Not sure Perry is the guy but I am getting more and more comvinced that Obama isn't. It takes stones to do the job and it seems Obama left his in Chicago.
You really think that elected officials represent the people? People like Perry and Obama are just puppets.
You know, if you folks would get off this site every once in awhile and look around, you might learn some interesting facts. One that might interest you is that for the past three years under Governor Perry, Texas has enjoyed strong job growth. How's Obama might respond to that if he ends up in a presidential debate with Perry?
Rico, with a population of around 6.5 million it has a readership of 75,000... pretty hard hitting source...
So, let me see if I understand what you're saying.
Only Washington does all these evil things. States don't have laws, regulations and taxes?
Do I have that right genius?
Christ on a biscuit! The wackadoos are comin out of the woodwork now! Just like BuyBull-thumping Bush, who brought them out of the brainwashed sewers, here they come again! these twits think The Flintstones was a real documentary about people living with Dinosaurs. Creation Museum, anyone? LMFAO!!
Great another TEXAS MORON! Scary!!!!
White noise for the sheep, nothing more, nothing less..
The way to get a Liberal out of office....is to put one in office. To quote a great woman "how's that hopey changey thing workin for ya'?"
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL: Why I'm SHOCKED! I never saw THAT one coming! Well, at least now the freak show is complete! Unless, Bible Spice decides to jump into the cesspool! Perry/Palin 2012 - it doesn't get any crazier then that! lol
Mocking others with whom you disagree, or harbor disdain for is a real poor substitute for integrity, thoughtfulness and solution focused discussions that may be helpful. Remaining stuck in the quagmire of hate and disdain while thinking you are amusing only promulgates more of the same... how is that of benefit to the others who come here to participate and find no life form other than continuing parade of commiserating wretches spewing public hatred daily.
Why is it that so many choose to exhibit themselves as an internally defiled, cancerous disease that is polluting the country? If your malcontent is so consuming that all you can muster is venom and hatred to spit at others you disagree with... then you are crazier than all of the things you choose to mock.
You are Jabba the Hutt of News Vine. You believe yourself to be wise and humorous while demonstrating that you are poisoned by hate, filled with contempt for others, crude and condescending. Your posts are always antagonistic; you mock others and treat them disrespectfully. In a year of visiting in and out briefly, I have never read anything you’ve posted that demonstrates a shred of evidence that you possess decency or dignity. This is the freak show, it is complete and the cesspool is full.
Your response to annierich-3906857: We are coming to get you libs… was we’ll be right here waiting, count on it.
I believe you will be. You have been here for a year that I know of antagonizing others, and will probably serve out your existence here… productivity is not a long suit of yours is it?
PS - Gary-2185316: to patriot1994 - i don't get whats wrong with being religious.
There's nothing wrong with being religious. Just don't push your beliefs to non-religious people. But as history has shown in the past 2000 years, religion has not been very forgiving to different ideas hasn't it? They don't do what they preach don't they? You know, show your enemy the other cheek?
So non-religious people have the right to push their beliefs on to other people and tell them what to do? ... this is you pushing your beliefs onto others and telling them how they should be ... And your accusation that hypocrites don't do what they preach is exactly how you are acting.
So... What is your point exactly... that you are special?
eeewww,
That's a total cop-out and you know it. Non believers are not PUSHING our beliefs on you, we don't believe in god-related beliefs, genius. I celebrate Xmas, with Santa not Jesus. Easter, but with the bunny and not Jesus either. If you look back and see the people asking for xmas tree's to be removed, they were mostly of OTHER religious faiths.
Many believers (Hindu's and Buddhists especially) are happy to let other people enjoy their choices.... often Xtians in this country are not, especially the evangelical types the Perry attracts. These believers are, all-in-all, totally intolerant and are always creating fake "wars on xmas" and other nonsense to rabble rouse and create something from nothing.
If you'll quit trying to convert me door-to-door and putting your Religious law in our governments, then we won't have to defend ourselves and call you out all of the time by using facts and logic against your silly paranoid/delusional beliefs.
There are two verses that Perry should have read before his political stunt in Houston.
[Matthew 6:5] And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men.
[Matthew 6:1] Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
He is the worst kind of snake oil salesmen, and a wolf in sheep's clothing. He has already tried to push his religious beliefs and proclaimed his support of DOMA which is entirely based on religion. He has no problem with big brother as long as it happens to coincide with his beliefs. he is the worst kind of hypocrit.
Non religious people have never killed people from other religions so they can further push their "atheism".
have a great day.
Coastal Exchange: eeewww, - So non-religious people have the right to push their beliefs on to other people and tell them what to do? - That's a total cop-out and you know it. Non believers are not PUSHING our beliefs on you,
I quote you from your post:
My statement was that religions cause wars. Nowhere in my statement was this directed to you when i originally made my post and you responded.
That fact that you are upset by the fact that religions have killed people, tells me a little bit more about you now.
He is going to PRAY for JOBS and woola there you go its a fricken miracle maybe God will tell him to invade IRAN thats what we need another TEXAS WAR Hawk. we need to keep Religion out of Government
period............
Perry is all for states' rights, except when he's not. Such as pushing for an constitutional amendment against gay marriage, removing that choice from the individual states.
"States rights" are rarely used to expand rights for citizens. Instead, they tend to be a code word for narrow-minded bigotry and excuses for cutting assistance to the least powerful of our citizens.
I hope he does get the ticket. It'll be an easy victory for the Democrats.
All they have to do is ask him why he felt it was necessary to outsource the turnpike bypassing Austin to a Spanish company.
Or all they have to do is ask him why he has spent hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on a lavish rental while the Texas governors mansion has undergone thousands, if not millions, of taxpayer dollars in renovation.
I think most of Texas won't even vote for this dud. Not if they consider themselves real Texans.
Just a quick note, this is not in fact true.
Stalin did send many religious to their deaths because he believed they were plotting against him and the Soviet government and its Marxist ideals (which included atheism).
I don't feel any party is innocent in the matter. I think it has more to do with power, though, than anything else. People go to war for resources and power - things like religion or safety, are just an excuse.
You are right. Let me re-evaluate my statement.
Non religious people have killed much less in the name of "atheism" then religious people.
So, the record shows that religious people are dangerous and i want them out of government. Non religious people tolerate people of other beliefs and religions.
Gary-2185316: It would be foolish of you to assume that or anything else of me since you know absolutely nothing about me or my beliefs.
My statement was that religions cause wars. Nowhere in my statement was this directed to you when i originally made my post and you responded. That fact that you are upset by the fact that religions have killed people, tells me a little bit more about you now.
Well, I observe two things from this post:
1) You avoided the observation and direct description of your hypocricy when pointed out to you by posting an alternative arguing point that referred to religious wars in an attempt to distract from your invalid assumptions.
2) You are intent upon interpreting statements to form a judgment about others and make assumptions which is also a distractant to cover up your flawed statements however; it only serves to further your irrelevance. You said - that fact that you are upset by the fact that religions have killed people, tells me a little bit more about you now.
Well, what does that tell you? I said I do not condone that type of behavior. I did not say I was upset about events that took place in history hundreds or even thousands of years ago. Assuming you have learned something about me through a statement that I do not condone unjustified killing is a pretty good demonstration of poor logic skills.
What does your distracting statement have to do with observing you telling others what to do on the premise that no one has the right to tell others what to do or believe, and you therefore violate your own premise by telling others what to do or believe.
How does distracting help you acknowledge you invalidated your own statement? oh, it avoids it, that's right.
Gary: sorry, I have your post wrongly applied.... you weren't the one telling others what to do which was my point... you just came in from left field with an irrelvant statement about religious wars.
I just am not sure why people have to bring religion into it all, other than to try smearing people to defend their own views. I don't really care what people believe... I care about what corrupt politicians have been doing to our country for the past 20- 30 years and the level of destruction the corruption has resulted in.
I care what our corrupted government continues doing to us and cannot for the life of me figure out why the hell people are so stupid as to believe that one or the other of these politicians or presidents is actually going to make a difference. They sit in here posting their poison and contempt for one another while they are losing their future.... it is incredible to watch their incompetence in its finest form... and so difficult not to become disgusted with the contempt and hatred that is being spread around like candy at a parade.
I would think they deserve what they get, except it is all of us who are impacted.
eeewww, i'm glad we understand each other. If you read some of my other posts i argue that the two party system is now invalid and we need to exercise our right to bear arms to overthrow the government since the elected officials do not represent the people anymore.
Religion comes into picture because people who came here first were very religious, and U.S. has some of worst double standards in the world. To give you an example. The founders of the country were white men owning slaves and wanted to be free from other religions while killing the natives. How's that for a double standard?
Don't get me wrong, i like it here. It's the double standards i hate.
So, if we overthrow the government i propose we keep the same Constitution with one main addition:
-People are required every 50 years to overthrow the government if it doesn't represent the people.
Observer -- that isn't quite accurate.
Yes, religion has a lot of blood on its hands. Can the same be said for atheists and atheism? Haven't atheists killed more people in the name of atheism than religious theists have killed in the name of their
religion? No, because atheism isn't a philosophy or ideology. Atheists do not gang together and kill people
in the name of "No God". It is not a philosophy or ideology that people crusade for.
How many people have been killed throughout history by Communists in the name of Atheism & Secularism? None, probably. How can that be? After all, millions and millions of people died in Russia
and China under communist governments — and those governments were both secular and atheistic. So weren't all of those people killed because of atheism — even in the name of atheism and secularism? No, that conclusion does not follow. Atheism itself isn't a principle, cause, philosophy, or "belief system" which people fight, die, or kill for. Being killed by an atheist is no more being killed in the name of atheism than being killed by a tall person is being killed in the name of tallness.
People were killed in communist nations for a lot of different reasons. Some were communists who disagreed with those in power and were killed because of that. Some were anti-communists who opposed the government and were killed for that. Some were simply in the way or inconvenient and were killed for that. These are political disagreements that people were being killed over, not murder in the name of atheism. But weren't a lot of people killed because they were Christian? Certainly — but not simply because they were Christian. Communists typically regarded religious organizations as a hindrance towards the creation of a worker's paradise. Some religious groups also opposed the communists. Once
again, we are generally looking at political issues, not a question of atheism.
Even if some people were killed simply because they followed a religion, it does not follow that they were killed in the name of atheism. Why? Because atheism is not inherently opposed to religion. Atheism also isn't a belief system or ideology which can, by itself, inspire people to do things — good or bad. IT IS MERELY AN ABSENCE OF A BELIEF IN GOD(S). These people also didn't believe in leprechauns. Shall we blame all their killings on their absence in Leprechaun Belief? Because, it carries the same logic.
TO UNDERSTAND THIS BETTER, consider times in the past when religion has been involved with violence — the Inquisition would be good. How many people were killed during the Inquisition in the name of theism? NONE. Those doing the killing acted not because of theism, but rather because of Christian doctrines. The belief system is what inspired people to act (sometimes for good, sometimes for ill). The
general ideology of theism, however, did not. THERE...Does that comparison rattle around in your noggin and clear things up a little??
Similarly, communism certainly inspired people to act and gave them motivations to do certain things, but atheism — which is the absence of a belief and not even a belief itself — did not. The assumption that
people in Russia and China were killed merely on account of atheism is based upon two other myths: first, that atheism is itself some sort of philosophy or belief system which can motivate people, and second that atheism is somehow interchangeable with the actual belief system of communism. It also pretends
that all the various elements of communist totalitarianism were irrelevant to what happened — which is utter nonsense.
Gary, you ain't being so tolerant. See your comment at 1.43. Kindness, love and compassion. What an idea.
Thank you Bernitch for your excellent post. I just didn't have the energy to type all that.
:)
Tolerance is allowing a person to express and practice his beliefs even when you disagree and when you start name-calling people. I believe in that. So, even if i may be rude to someone, i won't try to deny their rights.
So, let's not act like we're all Angels ok?
why is it that mostly ignorant idiot leftist liberals think the government can do anything beneficial for this country -- they spend at least twice as much as needed for anything and then cant run it after they overspend !! i am a business man - with 5 employees and having to cut back on those numbers somehow - mostly because i have no clue what will happen next -- ?????????? i guess i will incorporate so i can then be rich according to democrats
Gary and Bernitch (mostly Bernitch),
[I don't mean this rudely, but I can't word it better without sounding rude] I know what atheism entails, I used to be one.
Atheism is a philosophy, or can be, when discussing philosophical matters. It just cannot, obviously, be a religion. You're familiar with the 3 main branches of thought when it comes to discussing "god(s)", which is atheism, agnosticism, and theism.
One of the things I have never appreciated about the atheist point of view is its liquidity when defining itself. Someone could say "I don't believe in a god(s); therefore, you can't pin XYZ belief on me". I think that's somewhat fallacious, as just like any other being, actions are defined on personal beliefs, opinions, life experiences, thoughts, and scientific observations and fact. Evolution is true, people want evolution to be taught in school, ergo science promulgates a human action.
You're right on the belief system. It is not. It is a principle, though, and can be a philosophy.
An atheist murdering a religious person because they feel the religious person is a threat to their government, which has a tenet of upholding atheism, does provide a causal relationship.
If the tall person were to murder the short person because they believed that the short person was going to overthrow their tall-related government and install a short-related government, then they would be killing in the name of tallness.
Absolutely. That's why I didn't dare say that every single person of those millions murdered were murdered because they were religious. That would be completely ignorant of me to suggest. lol
Actually, some of them were.
As atheism was hand-in-hand with the government itself, it is a question of atheism.
Atheism, as a principle, fell into the same pitfall that the Roman Catholic Church fell into when the Church felt it was a good idea to be a political institution and not merely a religious one. (A grievous mistake, if I don't say so myself.) The result being the execution of many innocent people, as well as the Crusades.
Well, I would say it is opposed to, especially lately if anyone bothers to read what some people write on the internet. Or read anything by Richard Dawkins.
As I mentioned above, anything can motivate a person to do actions. It can be a belief or a scientific fact. The very idea of human action is rooted on the fact that people utilize information, interpret, and act upon it.
(Note again, I don't think of atheism as a belief system, though.)
There's the liquidity thing that I was talking about. This sentence actually does not carry the weight of logic or reasoning.
In order for your logic to be sound, you would need to replace the Christian belief of a "God" with the belief in "Leprechauns". What you do to one side of the equation, you must do to the other.
Actually, you proved my point.
They were killed by the Inquisition because they felt these individuals were a -threat- to the government authorities, the Catholic Church and their political powers. The Inquisition, as a tool, was used in a manner by the Spanish government (and others) without the Church's dissent (which makes them culpable) for solidifying power. (Refer back to my lamentation of the RCC being a political institution.)
----
What I'm trying, probably not eloquently, to drive home is the fact that if some idea is a component of something, and because that idea promulgates someone to fear it being jeopardized, thus jeopardizing the integrity of the whole system, thus they act on it, then this establishes a causal relationship.
In this case it was atheism. It very well could've been hotdogs. It doesn't matter, sorry-Charlie. I'm not trying to say that atheism provokes people into becoming bloodthirsty rabid dogs, quite the contrary as most atheists seem to also be humanists (me! sorta...), but it does have soiled hands.
Which is why I don't think it's fair to think of religious as bloodthirsty rabid dogs either. Though, there are one too many ignorant religious people running about, I will say that...
The idea behind violence and war has nothing to do with religion, or the lack there-of. As I said, they are tools and excuses for resources and power. This is just simple biology and genetics. Animals thoughtlessly kill without worshiping any deity(ies), humans before the advent of mythologies thoughtlessly killed, and even if all religion were to be dispelled and the world lived without it, there would still be wars and people be thoughtlessly killed. People will just find another tool to do it. The philosophies need to change, not the tools themselves.
(I know, I know... "tl;dr")
Joe, Iowa:
Well, you could be like Romney or Perry, and just outsource...
Observer, great post also. And i am not being sarcastinc or anything.
Now comes the most important question:
Show me your God!
See, you can't because we'll start talking about this whole faith thing. Non religious people are more tolerant because they don't believe in something without proof. Religious people on the other hand act on faith without proof and kill people. This makes them dangerous.
Damn, I just got done un-derailing this thread with a final reply to "Joe, Iowa" and then you go and ask me a question like this! haha ;)
Are the non-religious more tolerant? Abso-freaking-lutely, to an extent. I would say that they're about the same as the religious when it comes to opinionated bullying, though, which is just how some people learn to debate/argue.
I think it would be a huge mistake to cast such a wide net when it comes to saying that religious people kill people. That seemingly implies that all religious people kill people, and I don't ever recall killing anyone. I'm anti death penalty, anti abortion, anti war (well, I subscribe to the "just war" philosophy, if there is such a thing)...I steer very clear of death/murder/killing/culpability/questionables.
Everyone acts on faith - it's kind of a stretch argument to say that one group is "dangerous" because they "act on faith" in their lives. In history, and some today, act on faith that God(s) told them to kill someone or attack XYZ country. In history, and some today, people acted on good faith that when they were given an order to kill someone by a superior officer, they did so, though they were wrong. Faith is something we all utilize because we all can't know every variable, and faith is something that can be easily twisted in any area of life to be utilized by some devious filth to accomplish something horrendous, be it a pope or a president or a premier.
It's biology. Natural selection involves warfare in almost all species - from one species to another species, or inside of a species. Chimpanzees are great examples of this. The little baby-eaters are very fascinating!
So, I ask you an important question: show me the Chimpanzee god!
Ok, so we agree at a certain extend that non religious people are more tolerant.
But at least they SAW the superior officer and talked to him so when they are later held accountable for their actions they know who to blame. But when someone tells you i killed because God told me, then you sent that person to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation.
I am not sure what you mean here. Can you explain?
Yeah, but I personally think that's worse.
I'd much rather be insane than to be duped personally. At least then I'd have an excuse! lol
No, but seriously, the religious people who do kill someone are no different than the guy who sees a bunny rabbit that tells him to kill someone. It's mental illness. Just remember, it's the also religious people who sends that nutter to the padded room, or executes him.
Yes: that warfare and senseless killing is not solely a domain to the human species or rooted in religion.
Chimps do not worship gods, yet Chimps sometimes war and kill senselessly. Humans, the monkeys that we are, are sometimes just as stupid and find ways to be just as stupid, which is disgraceful.
If you can prove that Chimps do have a god that they worship, and they kill in its name, then your argument that a lack of religion would end senseless killing would be true.
Too much for me... all this overthrow the government and religion is the bane of the world... basically people are. I agree we need to vote out the current incumbents and start over again... our two party system is the one we are constitutionally bound with and it can work if we make it.
Yes our founders were religious... they left religious persecution; rebelled against unfair taxation and government oppression; and established a form of government without state enforced religion. They figured the people could govern themselves. Great concept and I am not too sure it is invalid. Too many parties soon becomes factions and that is not beneficial if you look at other countries. Anarchy is not exactly the best form either, which is what you will default to if you throw off the government you have now... just look at other countries trying that right now.
People are the problem, not religion, corporations, wealthy individuals, and etc. Look at the 6 to 7,000 years of recorded human history and you will see that human nature is pretty ugly. Fact is, all you have to do is read through any blog on any given day and you will readily see how ugly people are. Sooner or later, the younger generation will decide they are in charge and things will change.
Read the 4th turning. It is a good fairly good research article over multiple generations regarding patterns of change that have historically taken place. Remember, America hasn't always been here but the behavior patten has. human nature is what it is and people are what they are... politics is but one manifestation of the corrupt nature of humans, and only the people can change it. In this country the people have the power, they just have been complacent. If they stay that way, they will be conquered and oppressed, just like they started out.
@ Observer
Exactly. So therefore don't believe in something without proof and push that belief to people who do not want to believe in things without proof.
Sorry. You can't compare humans to animals. It's like comparing fire to water. Humans have logic and are conscious beings. Animals act on instinct.
@eeewww
There's a theory in science called string theory, which says that we live in an infinite number of parallel universes but we can't see them. Also each of these universes is different from the one we live in. For example in one of them there is no gravity, or there no water ... etc etc.
I would love to go into the universe where it's just like ours BUT people have no known concepts of religions or gods. That would be very close to utopia in my opinion. There'd still be wars but not as much in our history.
I'll check it out . Thanks.

"Non religious people have killed much less in the name of "atheism" then religious people."
Depends on who you consider reigious.
No matter. In the last century, excluding muslims, athiests have done the most killing. That is a fact that can only be disputed by idiots.
Regardless, that has nothing to do with the next president. Obama won't win because his backers are atheists who think he is something special yet he won't allow his past to be transparent, other than that he is an admitted crackhead. That is such a positive message for those who voted for him the last time.
Yes, we all need crackheads running the government because they are so upstanding, once they admit they are crazy.
If any of you leftists want to bet on the crackhead in the next election, I would like a piece of the action against you. How about republican nominee? I like Cain but Perry will be the nominee. Romney is a rino. Bachmann, though I like her (how many of you leftists have 2 dozen foster children), America just isn't ready for a smart woman (like HC?) to be president. The left does like faux black pretenders but not really interested in is truly smart black man who doesn't preach welfare.
So that leaves Perry. Newcomer, Christian, job creator in Texas where most jobs have been created since the faux black man (half white for those bigots who refuse to acknowledge the truth) was elected.
Ron Paul would be a great president, if not for his desire to legalize all drugs. That is just stupid.
The rest of the GOP candidates are not so good or rinos. Romney, Huntsman, Pawletny. Of course Gingrich is a total weirdo.
Of course perry's grades were not stellar in college. But then again Obama is too ashamed of his college history to even show his records. The puts the honest against the secretive the say he would be the most transparent president in history. One lie after another.
Bottom line, Donald Duck could beat Obama if he was the only opposition. Obama showed his leftist/flipflop/dumbass/telepromter hand too soon. Too bad he has no original thought- right or wrong. He was elected by idiots who wanted change but got screwed by the change and will now get screwed some more.
For the record, I did say there was one too many ignorant religious people running about... (Please don't lump me in the crowd with the above poster...)
Your argument is diverting right back to what I was saying about human actions - that anything prompts human actions, religion or science, and thus any thing that people believe or factually know (as in things that are universally factual) will be a defining force in their setting of personal policy or philosophy.
Crusades, Stalin, Pol Pot, Inquisition, blah blah blah, our argument just goes in one big circle. The only constant factor is just humanity itself.
Well, that news is going to come as a huge disappointment to the whole field of biology and its related sciences like genetics, not to mention archaeology, history, and paleoanthropology.
I gave chimps as an example because they exhibit higher mental function than your average snail. They have emotions, random acts of love and violence, structured social systems, utilize tools in the acquisition of food, utilize plants as drugs, etc.
Chimps are just a few genetic steps, domestication of other plants/animals, flying machines, toilet paper, and mythologies away from being nearly identical to humans.
To bring it back to humans, we were no different when we first started out, pre-mythologies. Unless you think Homo sapiens eradicated their neanderthal cousins for the glory of God the Almighty?
Hell, we keep electing the representatives we do currently, and chimps may get their shot at being top animal on the pyramid in the near future... I, for one, welcome our new chimpanzee overlords.
You must not be from Texas otherwise you wouldn't state such outrageously false things.
Perry has done nothing for the state of Texas other than be a taxpayer leech for personal gain. Not to mention he's eradicated thousands of jobs, like teachers, and not because they were unionized because there are no unions there. AND outsourced a promising turnpike to a Spanish company to which Texas would only receive marginally beneficial income from.
The only thing he has going for him is that he's a pretend Christian with pretend Christian values.
I'd take a genuine Muslim spy non-US native over that any day. l. o. l. \o/ (end sarcasm)
Don't you think that the defining force should be on the things that are factual? We'd like to base our actions on the things we see and not on faith. There's no proof in faith.
I am talking about what we are now but i see your point. Perhaps it was back then, when we couldn't explain things such a thunder that we came up with the notion of "god". But as we get smarter we should really make the smart choice to keep religion out of the government.
People joke with Mormon religion and John Smith because it's a recent story but they forget how ridiculous Christianity sounds when you rationalize it and think about it. It's just because it's been here for 2000 years that is now accepted. Think about it! You had a God who is three but is also one. He then sends his son (or himself?) to get killed so people are saved. Just think about it for a minute.
Gary, I was an atheist most of my life. That you don't believe is your problem, as well as the problem of those who don't believe.
Ok, so you don't believe because it requires faith. So, do you have faith in politicians who have continuously screwed you and nearly everyone? Is that not a religion?
Pick your favorite leftist politician. What has he done for you? Promise you the prosperity that you earned or that of others? Please tell us.
What do you have faith in? Politicians who have shown they don't care about you? Obama doesn't yet you support him. Why?
Whoa whoa whoa. You obviously did not read my previous statements where i am arguing to overthrow the government because the elected officials do not represent the people anymore.
Eh, like I said, we all operate on faith to some degree because we can't know everything.
A good example of how we act on faith and utilize this faith in government policies (outside of religion): economics. And boy is she a fickle wench...
No argument from me on that matter. I'm currently Catholic and the worst period in the Church's history is when it dabbled in politics. Keep the government out of my religion and keep the religion out of my government.
I just, sadly, don't think it'll reduce senseless killings or warfare.
Interestingly enough, if you approach the question with a philosophical, legalistic perspective, it actually makes sense.
Like the first doctors of the Catholic Church, when they came up with this dogma, they approached it with a logical and legal mindset.
If a God is an omnipotent being, then part of God must in fact still be all of God. It's actually the same legalistic principle of using connective tissue as an argument for prosecuting a murder case when the victim's body is not found, if you want to look at it that way.
The dying for our sins thing... I think C.S. Lewis covered that one pretty well. Legalistically speaking, that one is pretty open and closed. The Trinity debate is much more entertaining, I think.
Of course, this all is conjecture based on the philosophical debate of two factors, which atheists, agnostics, and theists will be arguing forever: is there a prime mover and, if so, does he or she have an invested interest in his or her creations.
Well, i must say you covered all your angles pretty good. :)
That is the question isn't it? But based on the fact that we haven't seen the Christian God for 2000 years while science starts explaining more and more the "realm of god", don't you think this whole faith thing is getting really old? I mean, how much more time do you need?
It'll be an argument forever. One of my favorite shows, Star Trek (pick a series), religion is present even in then.
There are only 3 answers to the prime-mover position: no, yes, I don't know / not enough evidence. No lack of evidence will ever disprove the position (not that it has to), no evidence will ever prove the position (not that it has to), and "I don't know / not enough evidence either way" I think is a cop-out, even though it probably is the only sensible approach.
Even now, in the realm of physics talking about beyond the Big Bang (a theory developed by Catholic Monsignor Georges Lemaitre originally entitled "Hypothesis of the Primeval Atom") in regards to M-theory and the omniverse being composed of membranes, it still philosophically begs the question of why and how. At the atomic and subatomic level, the questions why and how are still and forever present ("why do atoms create DNA" "why do atoms make an elephant instead of a zebra" as atoms are not living entities yet they willfully make living entities, etc). Why are some systems greater than the sum of their parts?
The line will indefinitely be redrawn forever. I just feel like the only inevitable conclusion is that something set the whole schabang in motion. As to whether or not I'm right or wrong about the personal involvement, I'll just have to die and see. If I was wrong, no biggy, I lived by the tenets of St. Thomas Aquinas-styled humanistic Christianity and did as little harm as possible, if I'm right, score. If I'm wrong, I'll just go back to the great energy field after death, which is exciting too, not that I'll have a consciousness about it.
Why is god so mysterious?
Why does he leave people guessing/dying?
Why is he hiding from us? Is he shy?
Are we his special creation, or are the aliens living in the Orion nebula?
Why are there so many gods to confuse people? Why doesn't he step in to end all this mess?
I can tell you why. Because he doesn't exist.
:)
Great posts by the way. I wish there were more people like you in this country or the world. It would be a much better place.
To you as well.
I'm off to bed. I'll let people get back to debating eff-Perry (what they call him in Austin, minus the censor approved version).
One and done Obama will lose by a landslide in 2012. We know who he is now and his failed leadership is all on record now. Absolutely the worst leader in Americas history will be finally kicked to the curb. He has brought America to her knees trying to implement Cloward piven! Even libs are turning against one and done, and his policies have been a trainwreck. Canada was in the same debt crisis we are currently in during the 80s and 90s and they turned thier economy around by shrinking government, as we will do when Senator Perry takes the White House in 2012. Fiery redhead and company, here we come in huge numbers. Liberalism is on the way out and your screaming, name calling rants will be music to my ears. and millions of other like minded Americans. See you at the polls!! Have a great day :-)
AP-1414066, of course they forgot about what deregulation did. They want more of it because by getting rid of all those pesky regulations it will free the job creators to create a hurricane of jobs...or so the theory goes.
Alan O.-3429365
The tea party is the republican party. Just take a look at the house of representatives, Boehner doesn't the ability to go to the bathroom without their permission. Boehner is supposedly the majority leader in the house, but the tea party is calling the shots.
Today, Governor Rick Perry announced his intention to run for President of the United States.
As much as we want to rid Texas of Perry, we don't want to inflict his anti-education, anti-job policies on the entire nation, either. So today, we launched MeetRickPerry.com.
Texas Democrats have fought Rick Perry longer than anyone. There's not an oddsmaker in the country who would bet against us in a game of Rick Perry scandal trivia.
So we're putting that knowledge out for the world to see on MeetRickPerry.com.
Voters across the nation need to know that Rick Perry demanded a budget that will lay off tens of thousands of teachers and cost Texas hundreds of thousands of jobs. They need to know about the slush funds he uses to reward his cronies with taxpayer dollars, and they need to know about the many scandals that must now be fully vetted under the national spotlight.
All that and more will be on MeetRickPerry.com, including our newest video, “Dear America” – Texas’ letter to the nation in which we say “sorry for hitting you with another Texas Governor.”
Rico, I don't know much about Gov. Perry, but the fact that one of his top priorities has been to slash education and lay off teachers at a time when a large segment of our population are unemployed and do not qualify for the good jobs that are available is very disturbing. The USA ranks 17th and 18th in math and science in the world, a fact that should be a major concern for most Americans. Unfortunately, the demonization campaigns against government and education have been so successful that unscrupulous politicians like Governos Perry and Scott (Florida) are elected precisely because of their anti-public education stand.
Observer, the Holy Spanish Inquisition was not a government endeavor, it was carried out by the Roman Catholic Church while the government (monarchy) remained ambivalent - and fearful - about what was going on. All the prosecutors that tried Jews, those suspected of being Jews (conversos), and tens of thousands of people suspected to be witches and non-believers (those that did not go to Church or ate beef on Friday) we priests. Many of them belonged to the Dominican order and, later, the Jesuits. The "fiscals" as they were known were more powerful than secular governors and military officers. Admittedly, there was more to it than just religious fanaticism, much of what happened was influenced by greed and opportunism. Many of the victims were intellectuals, wealthy and powerful and their properties were often distributed between the church and the accusers.
Now, far left wing extremist liberals call Perry crazy. Gee, how many didn't see that one coming? Is there any Republican they don't think is crazy? If the wacky far left thinks he is crazy then there must to some real good things about him we must explore further.
Dominick thanks for your post. I always look forward to what you have to say. I understand what you are saying about a majority of people who want to see the fall of teachers and government employees. Unfortunately teachers got a free pass for many years and many of us just shook our heads while they were being glorified because we had children in the public school system and face to face contact with some of those teachers. I seem to be abnormal in my views...I see myself as a conservative liberal. I believe in the arts and social programs ....to a point. I feel that public schools have failed miserably. It's not all the teachers fault. We all play a hand in it with both parents having to work and no one being there to raise the children. From my perspective vouchers are the only way to go. This isn't a new idea and if I remember right years ago when it was being tossed around it was the Democratic party that championing it. The problem with Perry is that with all the dollars being spent on education here in Texas we come in close to the bottom for various reasons. We also come in close to the bottom on health care and general living standards. Rick Perry was behind the deregulation of electricity here promising that our bills would be lower. Mine doubled. Old people have died here lately. Rick Perry is all about corporations...especially oil. Like I said I'm an abnormal creature in that I believe in Unions but I also believe that they have over reached. For instance the Superintendent of my school district makes $225,000. a year. How much does the Vice President of the U.S. make? Unions need to modify how they do business today. We need collective bargaining but the people need to pay into retirement and medical.
I hope this makes some kind of sense. Myself I would love to see a Democrat come on board with some common sense. Someone who would say this is the way it is and do something about it. My vote will always be for the person working for the people not the corporations. And that's NOT Perry.
I must have missed this "Glorification of Teachers", rico. Please tell me when this was going on? It sure didn't happen in my life time and I am 50.
I live in NJ and, despite Chris Christies blubbering, we have some of the best public schools in the country. We also have some schools that have to educate the poorest of the poor and children who grow up with abuse, homelessness, absent caregivers, and constant hunger and fear for their own safety. Not sure how we can blame teachers if these kids don't learn quite as well as the cared-for, well-fed, Kumon tutored, Suzuki violin playing, million-dollar home living kids who attend school in the "better" public schools.
Observer and Gary,
What a refreshing series of posts and thanks for taking the time to lay it all down here on the vine.
Animals (almost all) will engage in violence against their own kind (warfare, if you desire) to secure resources such as water, food, mates. We humans, of course, do it too.
Let us remember to keep religion and those who use it to their own selfish ends separate. These are two different things.
"Every religion is true one way or another. It is true when understood metaphorically. But when it gets stuck in it's own metaphors, interpreting them as facts, then you are in trouble." Joseph Campbell
Perry's got a new oath of allegiance all ready to go. You hold the bible in one hand, the stars and stripes in the other while peeing on the Koran.
Only one problem with that ORB. With your hands fully engaged elsewhere you might miss the Koran and pee all over yourself.
I can feel the excitement waning.
Wait untill he promises everyone 54 acres and a mule.
And a mule? And all we have to do is vote for our friends who are going to take care of us?
WOW!
The fact is the GOP could nominate a corpse and they would still win.
Obamas poll numbers are lower than Bushs!
Who will vote for Obama?
(Besides African Americans, Muslims, fat white women and college kids that live off their parents)
Quote of the Day By: Lord Hailsham (British Lawyer and Politician, 1872-1950)
"The introduction of religious passion into politics is the end of honest politics, and the introduction of politics into religion is the prostitution of true religion"
The GYPSY!
Who will vote for Obama?
(Besides African Americans, Muslims, fat white women and college kids that live off their parents)
A few battles over things like health care reform or a debt ceiling hostage crisis will surely bring the Republican base to President Obama too.
Obama bests an unnamed Republican presidential candidate by 49%-45%, though he remains below the 50% threshold. That means President will win.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/2011-08-08-poll-gallup-election_n.htm
Put that in tea and stir it up!!!
And whose numbers are lower than Obamas? The Republicans in Congress who held this country hostage. Not a one of these half-wits said they would have stopped the US default. Americans are not stupid despite what you say. They don't want this country turned into a theocracy by some right wing nut who wants to legislate his bible and hand out his burkas with his corporate tax breaks. (and a whole lot of the folks who DON'T live in trailer parks, don't want your type in our bedrooms, don't hate women or non-Christians or anyone with an education who can think for themselves, and who actually work for their living instead of whining their lives away, are the ones who are going to be shocking you out of your ignorance with a second Obama term.)
Thanks for the quote, Mamma, but I don't think many GOPrs can decipher British.
"(Besides African Americans, Muslims, fat white women and college kids that live off their parents)"
Gypsy - I'm at a loss of words, at least respectful ones.
Congressional approval numbers have nothing to do with who will be elected President. And who again was in a lowly rated Congress when he got elected President in 2008?
And on Huffington, a comprehensive list of Congresional polls: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/16/jobapproval-congress_n_725824.html
By far the quote of the day GM!
Thanks!
JoAnna: actually, you miss the point. Presidential poll numbers that you tout are meaningless this far out from an election and before a real opponent is picked. So if you're going to use them, at least understand that those poll numbers measuring voter anger at "washington" cut both ways. And if you can't wrap your head around that, try this. There's a reason the President is having no trouble raising money and the Republicans are. That's because there's a lot of smart folks out there who no better than to bet against him because of polls.
Beverly,
The Republican base will probably turn to Perry as their savior. However, moderate Republicans (if there are any) and independents will hopefully see him for what he truly is, another failed governor from Texas who believes the gods have ordained him to rule the free world. If they don't, we could be in for another W.-like disaster.
Madtown, that is how you vet a potential candidate for president is by where they are from? I can see that...you probably voted for Obama...did you make that choice based on how his campaign symbol was similar to you favorite soda brand?
madtown53

What you have postulated could be very likely. I don't really see that coming unless the T-baggers and republicans steal the election aided and abetted by the kings on the Supreme Court by the emperor Koch brothers. Then it's pitcfork time.
Geesus you couldnt hit a barn with the broad side of a shovel! And Im willing to bet the only pitch fork you have seen was in a museum!
Bev, you don't like the way this country is run, you are more than welcome to leave...talk about a step in the right direction for this country!
gingerbreadmomma..............The end of honest politics? Now that is an oxymoron if I have ever heard one. The end of honest politics? Because of religion? Maybe what these politicians need is the fear of God put into them. Or better yet, the wrath of God.
The better option is to stay and keep the GOP lowlifes out of office!
Don't forget the Democratic lowlifes as well.
mark that leaving the country crap is the most idiotic statement RINO's ever coined... No we will change this country for the better and fight until it is done, because it is ours. We will start by getting rid of "corporate welfare" ...and you know what ? If you don't like it you can go to Texas and suceed. I'll tell you one thing though,You won't get to keep all the oil profits from the gulf region. You will have to start sharing. because louisiana is already pissed. So stick that in your walmart pipe and go home to your trailer and smoke it!
i wander what kind of jobs he created? Min wage, because that is not good enough, we need real jobs! Pretty bad when people with education are working at Walmart, Home depot, and bar tending, these use to be jobs for the kids and Moms that wanted to work while the kids are in school. Are middle class jobs are gone and the Middle class is shrinking down to nothing. Now lets take away our SS, Medicare, pensions, health ins and everything else we worked for, and i can bet the GOP won't be happy till we are all living in the gutters!
the min wage jobs "he" created are the new form of 28 to 32 hr workweeks popular now with big corporations that do this because , then they don't have to give vacations/vacation pay sick leave or any kind of benefit. Thank you walmart fo showing them all they way. There is a very special place in heaven for you xxoxxo .
well Kim.. there you have it. You have proven exactly what is wrong with this country. As if you are entitled to make alot of money and be handed this high profile job just because you have some piece of crap paper that says you partied for five extra years. How about this... Get your freakin education, go to work for walmart, home depot, etc, work your tail off and actually move up the managment chain to get the high paying job you have EARNED! Not just handed to you because you think you deserve it or some union head idiot holds a company hostage to give it to you. Get a life and a work ethic!
johnny-
Vote Union!!!!!!!!!!
higher pay and safer work conditions!!!!
Johnny i am retired and did just that, how many people do you think move up in Walmart are you kidding me!
That statement, Governor Perry, taken at face value could very easily be taken to mean a call for a toothless government that is unable to provide anything for anybody. Surely that's not what you are suggesting, Governor, is it?
As opposed to the government we have now, the government whose leader said "I can't be sure the Social Security checks will go out" when he lied about the potential of the debt ceiling not being raised. That's not only a toothless government, programs like SS are supposed to be fully funded but apparently they aren't unless we borrow $1.5 trillion dollars a year, but also a government that is bankrupt and incompetent.
The government cannot provide. It ran out of money. It cannot stop spending more borrowed money. The government cannot reform itself. Do you have more or less confidence in the Super Committee vs. the Simpson/Bowles Committee, or will those two committees results be equally ignored? That is why the US bonds got downgraded, and soon enough why all of the countries social programs safety nets will start to be reduced.
It's not clear why Perry wants the job. He'd be inheriting a real mess.
A. Too many people get too many services already. Government reliance- which is actually demanding that your neighbors fork over so you can have what you did not earn- is at an all time high, because
B. Government regulation is at an all time high- and, what is worse, it is done either deceptively, (as in pushing cap and trade in the backdoor of the EPA on Christmas Eve), or in full view of the media, which will not touch it because it does nothing to redound to Obama's credit- (as in the EPA revising ozone levels below their already reduced levels- levels that had not yet taken effect, and which were not due to be revised for ten years).
These things cost JOBS. There have been mass layoff announcements made in the last few weeks, in addition to poor numbers for businesses planning to expand workforces.
With Obamacare already costing jobs- medical equipment manufacturers are cutting labor force in this country as they look down the barrel of upcoming taxes on their products,(but, no worries, they are building plants in China), the NLRB costing jobs by preventing companies from opening plants in right to work states, (notice that did not stop the democratic party from having their convention in one), and the EPA costing jobs, (again, it's okay, those jobs will just show up in China),
It is obvious that while, maybe, government itself is not the problem, the Obama administration is certainly a problem.
This nutjob will say anything to get elected. Please, somebody ask him about his Texas secession statements!!!
Two-thrids of the troika have chimed in. C'mon, Spanky, where are you? I know you're out there!
@JoAnnasmith1
so, explain to me why Perry would be inheriting a mess, when you all complain when Obama says he inherited our current mess from Bush.
Have you seen the economy lately? How would you characterize it, all peachy?
Yeah, Obama doesn't stop crying about it. Rather than whining about it day in and day out, you'd think he'd do something about it, but no.
Joanna: so because the government didn't default, you think Obama 'lied' about what would have happened had the fringe gotten its way and we had defaualted?? What the heck do you think would have happened to all of the government's payments including social security and our military (or did you actually believe such great heavyweights like Bachmann who insisted it all didn't matter and we'd just 'find some money'somewhere??) Have YOU seen the economy lately?? Maybe you're ignorant enough not to know the difference between a recession and a depression or between default and a rating downgrade...but there are many more of us out here who are paying attention.
Don't confuse her with reality. She's just another hack without a clue.
Hey joAnnaSmith. I read both of your posts, above. After having that feeling of a little bit of throw-up coming up into my throat...I'm curious. Do you ever have a thought of your own, or do you just parrot the mindless, ignorant right-wing Faux News talking points you hear from OReilly and Hannity?
Bernitch,
Both sides are equally guilty of talking points, to say that's not true is just a plain out right lie, and very easy to prove.
parrot the mindless, ignorant right-wing Faux News talking points you hear from OReilly and Hannity?
Enought said.
I think JoAnna's panties are in a wad and are applying too much pressure on her brain down there.
Liberalism ilk sickness response Brian, well when that is all you got, and that IS all you have, rest assured your ilk is the minority in America. That was so wrong and uncalled for. See you at the polls!
Well, looks like Romney has some real opposition. Given that thia will encourage the candidates to spell out specifics, it should make decision making much easier.
By the way- I realize that First Read is all a tizzy over Ames, but, since thia ia the "place for politics", how on earth did this political bombshell get overlooked?
http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x1318.xml?ReleaseID=1636
You'd think it could have rated a mention. Sheesh. You don't want people to think you're biased, do you?
They knew you'd rise to the occasion nojo!! You're becoming editor-in-chief....while they are in Ames
Yeah, it says Obama against any republican will win re-election. Let's hope so.
Lmao.....I attended that school when I was discharged from the military!
And this is relevant why?
"I promise you this," he said to rousing cheers. "I'll work every day to try to make Washington DC as inconsequential in your life as I can."
I guess this quote jumped out at everyone. Why would you run for President, work with Congress and live in the White House and say you want to make DC inconsequential? Why not just stay in your Texas kingdom. We need and deserve a President who understands what the job of President is all about. Gov. Romney, Gov. Huntsman, can't say why they want to be President -- if they just want to create jobs, they can use their considerable wealth and influence to start a company and hire people. If they want to effect policy change, they should be in Congress. Now Gov. Perry comes along with a goal of of doing nothing in the job he aspires to. Being President means looking out for all Americans in all 50 states and abroad, even those who don't vote for you. It means balancing the needs of people in Alaska with those in Indiana, balancing the needs of farmers with those of hedge fund managers. It means thinking about students and senior citizens and Native Americans and first-generation Americans and people in manufacturing, high-tech, etc.... It would be refreshing if any of the candidates presented so far could articulate their vision for what they want to accomplish -- and going backward (back beyond the Presidents Bush) to President Reagan is not an option.
That line was for the Liberty and Freedom loving people of the country, so, you wouldn't understand.
Great, Kate. I guess if I stick with your reasoning, Obama wanted to be president to drive up unemployment, drive up the debt, drive down GDP, and destroy the Middle East and North Africa.
Here I was one of the people who thought all this destruction was accidental.
So, tell me, Kate, why did Obama want to destroy America? Cause, that's what he's done, by any objective measure.
Yeah, no, I voted for President Obama in 2008 and plan on doing so in 2012 and I TOTALLY feel the chains of tyranny clamping down on me!
I have noticed, NoJoe, that when anyone makes a criticism you can't bat away, you change the subject back to your favorite trashing of the President. Can you defend Jon Huntsman's decision to run? Gov. Romney's? Gov. Pawlenty's? and now Gov. Perry? Which one will be best for New Jersey?
Many people don't understand what liberty is all about. It's about having the freedom to tend to your needs, responsibly. But some see it as an issue of so-called self-esteem and respect....that's all related to ego, and it's going to destroy this country unless there is a reversal in attitudes.
Plenty of tools did in 2008, but it's not looking like there will be enough of them to put Obama over the top in 2012.
"I didn't say change we can believe in tomorrow" - BH Obama
I will be paying careful attention to both Romney and Perry, and will decide which of them will be better for my state and my country.
Unlike a liberal, who simply decides who makes them swoon, I want to know about tax, economic, and foreign policies.
You did not answer the question, though. You seem to think that everything Obama has wrought has been deliberate, and a good thing, no less. So, why did he destroy the country, and why are you okay with it?
Ah, so if you voted for Obama in '08 you're a "tool"? Gee, thanks...that insult should convince us to not vote for him in '12.
JoAnna: I think you're the one missing the point. Liberty and freedom loving people realize this isn't the United States of Texas. Ignorance of what the federal government does, why we have a Federal government, what the United States IS, is no excuse for pandering to the uneducated who love that right wing knee jerk "it's all Washington's fault" line. If you hate the Federal government, you simply don't understand your own country.
Do you think Washington is doing a good job AP? Have they met their commitments well? Do you think they deserve even more of the countries working peoples money because they are doing such a bang up good job?
No one is talking about "hate" AP. Those are your words, and they are a lie. You can make your own judgement about if Washington. Do you think they deserve more money and more power for what they are doing? Obama says yes to that question. Perry is saying no.
You're the one not getting it, AP.
What is decried is the MISUSE of government- specifically, its power to regulate the economy into the dust. If you are honest, (rather than a knee jerk liberal), you will look at all of the regulation- add it to U.S. Companies expanding in China in record numbers- and figure out the connection between the two.
If you look at the billions given to Obama donors to create a handful of jobs, you will see a troubling tendency to corruption.
If you look at the failure to act on advice that war and weather had led to food shortages in North Africa and the Middle East- given a year and a half before the "Arab Spring"- which sprung, incidentally, from food shortages- you will ask why Obama did not use the power of the government positively- as in, having the Agriculture department use the tools at hand to increase the supply of wheat and corn, and alleviate the conditions that have led to the chaos in that region.
I did not support Obama because I did not think he had the experience necessary to do the job, and his speeches were designed to allow the listener to infer whatever he or she would- that bothered me. I did not, however, anticipate that he would be such a spectacular failure. I honestly did not think it could be done.
I know many people who DID vote for him- and none who will be doing so again. They range from friends who refuse to vote- even though they believe that Perry will be elected, to my father- 76 years old, who will be casting his ballot for a republican for the very first time in his voting life.
When you've lost my dad, you're all out of hope. There's going to be a change.
Government is not needed to regulate the economy into the dust. Lehman Brothers, WaMu, Wachovia, Bear Stearns, AIG, Countrywide...they did a pretty decent job of crumpling up the economy and tossing it into the hopper on their own.
What was unemployment in January, 2009, noid? What was the civilian labor force?
What is unemployment today, noid? What is the civilian labor force?
What was the nation's credit rating in 2009, noid? What is it today?
Obama took a bad situation, and made it WORSE. He used billions of stimulous dollars- that he borrowed, that taxpayers must pay back,-to pay off his donors.
If this were a republican president, he'd have been driven out of office by by the constant press coverage of his failures and corruption. In truth, I have never seen the media so besotted by a politician.
They'll find their professionalism again soon, though.
Obama shelved in 2012.
JoAnna: the mythical "Washington" that you love to hate is actually so much more than you could possibly understand that its no wonder you accept such simplistic notions as "not working". You'd probably be shocked to learn our economy is FOUR TIMES the size of China's. You'd be shocked to learn that we are still the world's largest manufacturer. Of course we have problems--but if you're honest, instead of a tool of right wing extremism, you'd know that deficit spending did not just begin with the President you love to hate, that the mid-east didn't suddenly become a dangerous place, that the Arab Spring has a lot to do with Arabs and a young, jobless and hopeless population and little if nothing to do with who is in the White House (what an absurd claim about jobs...do you actually believe no one got any jobs in the Bush White House who Bush knew?? Seriously??) I knew plenty of people who after Iraq, after Katrina, after the financial collapse brought on by an indifferent Federal government that saw regulation as a dirty word, after watching their life's savings collapse, said they'd never vote for Bush 2 again either. Didn't mean a damn thing.
AP, it was I who brought up the corruption- and I am not talking about jobs.
I'm talking about half a billion to Steve Westly, who bundled half a million for Obama. He got that for Tesla motors. He got more for a few other harebrained schemes, my favorite of which is $250 million to research an alternative to diesel fuel based on fermenting sugar cane. We already have something based on fermented sugar cane- it's called bourbon. He got another couple hundred million to expand a dump- excuse me, reclamation/recycling center. All, I might add, through the department of Energy, where he is, incidentally, an advisor- giving advice on where these grants should go.
I am talking about Cappy McGarr and Ed Cunningham - both Obama donors and campaign operatives, who got $450 million to build wind turbines in China.
I'm talking about Cree Industries, whose owner was also a big donor- but not as big as the first two examples- thus, he only got $39 million so he could build a light bulb factory. Did I mention it was in China? No? I should have.
So, you cannot say Obama lied, exactly. He said the stimulus would create jobs- he never said they would be in America. That we inferred that they would be is our fault, I guess.
But you cannot look at these funds coming from OUR pockets and going in to his contributors, and not smell the stench of corruption.
Unless, of course, you are holding your nose, as well as closing your eyes and ears.
Are you?
"Of course we have problems". What an understatement.
And you sure like tangents AP. First you talk about Congressional polls, switch to President polls, then you're over talking about China, all of sudden it's off to blaming right wing extremism, somehow Bush makes it into the conversation, followed by Katrina, and you finish with a fine rant about the Middle East. Are you on meth or something?
One thing you don't seem to do it be able to hold Obama responsible for anything. You never bring him up. Obama and the Democrats have failed AP. They can't produce jobs, we have an anemic GDP growth, our credit rating is going down, 1 in 7 of our citizens are on food stamps. You can't keep blaming everyone but Obama and the Democrats for these problems AP, it just doesn't work.
So all of you who hate Washington so much and think it's doing a terrible job think that killing it is a better option than improving it? Have you thought through what the actual consequences would be if you flushed Washington down the toilet? AP is right. "If you hate the Federal government, you simply don't understand your own country." And it is people like you who will cause this great experiment in democracy to fail.
My "kill", "flush", "hate". You have quite the vocabulary. I guess you need to characterize the Right's position that way in a feeble attempt to prove what ever point you're trying to make. It's really not working, but hey, it was a darn good try!
And AP, . . . , AP is having a bad day.
Wow.....the republican women are kicking some Lib ass tonight! I just dont see how anyone in mid america can support Mr Obama. (outside Chicago) Most of you know I live in Detroit, I was on my way home on Thursday and saw a very good looking black woman in a Livonia post office under a tent with a table. Being that this was odd I pulled in to see what was going on! (we are big union area its usually a union protest) However As I drove up I saw about 40 people multi racial (women men white black Asian) standing around a table with a huge sign. DUMP OBAMA HERE! lmao I was laughing my azz off, I talked with the young women and she told me they were at every Post office in South east Michigan that day! The relevance of this is......this is territory that Mr Obama counts as his!
JS1 and NbNj......... you two can be impressive at times. Im sure you have caused the gimme gimme gang to eat so much of that buttered popcorn! Feisty mad a comment about the size of my ass earlier.......My wife and I together dont weigh 225 lbs
Jolly, And the folks were from what organization? I do know the Ron Paul folks were meeting weekly at every Federal court house last month. Have they moved to post offices?
Is JoAnnaSmith a pen-name for Bill O'Reilly?
Bernitch, You're insulting Bill O'Reilly!
jollyoldsoul1,
Feisty as an tendency to bring family into her attacks. She will attack your spouse, accuse him of cheating, attach your children and when necessary threats, for example:
Feisty Words
there were MORE people defending my comments then those that came to your rescue!
That little princess of yours has my deepest sympathies with a HATE riddled Grama like yourself!
Just keepon hating on... one day you will get yours! ;o)
Every dog has her day and it won't take long before YOU get yours...
4 .What's the matter NJNB - hubby out of town AGAIN? I would be more worried about WHAT was UPwith that then spreading you your HATRED every chance you get?
Do YOU think the hubby wants to get it on with a BITTER OLD BROAD that couldn't day something NICE if they had a GUN to their head?
It just shows her character or the lack of one.
Sadly, when it comes to Feisty, she has immunity when it come to FR Code of Conduct.
Just put her on ignore.
Yet somehow you can't seem to take your own advice - quit trolling me bitch!
Don't make me show you for the phony shill you are...
And while you're at it - keep on counting the number of votes K?
Feisty,
Look it up, its your words not mine.
there were MORE people defending my comments then those that came to your rescue!.
Little self absorbed aren't we feisty?
I am not the one counting votes, in fact I think its adolescent and embarrassing. You are lying flat out, and if needed, I will go back and get the comment you are referring to.
Again, I am not the phony shill so go right ahead and look for anything you can twist, how many time must I tell you, I have nothing to hide.
I am not the one who has block their history.
One more thing, FR, I know feisty calling me a bitch is in violation of the Code of Conduct. What will you do?
harassing/stalking people here is also a violation, thetotas.
i'm jus sayin...
Honey - sometimes it's best to know when to fold em! ;o)
thetotas
My My, how utterly embarrased you must be! lol
Why is this even a headline now? Basically all we've heard all week is how today he would tell everyone that he's running. Most of us knew before that. None of this is new.
let me get this straight....you think speculation on the announcement is fine, but the actual announcement is not news? Let me guess....not a big consumer of news, right?
The only news here was the exact time Ricky would say the words. There really was no speculation as it was a foregone conclusion when the Iowa freak show was over and the polls came out with the ho hum results.
"It is time to get America working again."
The GOP ran on that in the House races...instead of jobs all we got were spending cuts. We know what they want, they want the middle class and the poor to pay for the deficit and the tax cuts for the rich and corporations. They also want their social agenda imposed on everyone, thus ensuring the overreach of their 'limited government.'
Hopefully America won't be fooled again.
You are correct, Fact. All the new congress people ran on jobs for the American people. As soon as they were elected it reverted to the same old thing. Cut taxes for the rich and cut spending on everyone else. Kill the Unions, send women back to the dark ages, and privatize education, social security and medicare. That is not the vision of a country I would even want to live in.
Good lord....it is no wonder our country is going down the tubes....look who runs for office now adays...
Palin, Bachman, Trump, Perry, Gingrich....what the hell....nothing but a bunch of wing nuts...
I haven't seen one viable candidate from the Teapublicans in decades.
The reason the country is going down the tubes is because the voters keep voting the wrong people in office. Thank god we have control over our local elections, because nationally the voters always vote in those people who work against their benefit. Vote for the Republicans, you vote against "safety nets", whether that be unemployment insurance or banking regulations. At least we get it right on the local level and if we don't like the people in office, we can recall them.
When you begin seeing children in the USA dieing from starvation, the re-emergence of HOBOs riding the rails, homeless on the streets (hmmm) and shanty towns cropping up, which way do you think the vote will go? What will happen to our crime statistics. Give us some candidates with brains, hearts, and courage.
We'll see how inconsequential the federal government is the next time we decide to spread our version of democracy around the world with our military? To quote Tupac Sukar...."We have money to fund the wars, but don't have money to feed the poor".
If Perry gets in office -- with the help of George W. Bush's consultants, by the way -- we will be in another war. The war drums are beating. Everything that George W. Bush did, Perry is going to do. Keep the Bush tax cuts, try and remove safety nets, start a war (with Iran?) that will benefit the defense contractors.
Screw the American public.
Next time Texas has a wildfire or some other natural disaster, if thinking the federal gov't is inconsequential, let's see who he calls for help.
I'd love to see Perry doing a 'rain dance'!
On second thought...
With snakes! lol
Excellent speech. George W. 2.0
This will move Romney to the last of the pack.
Very moving. He has a great speech writer.
His history as governor of Texas is deplorable. We don't need this for the rest of the country.
I don't want to live in this view of his America. Yet he will move to the front of the GOP pack.
Let the games begin.
Oh boy, here come the jobs! Your choice - minimum wage or minimum wage. And both without any decent health benefits. Yee-haw.
Really. People should just wait for Obama to extend the unemployment benefits. That's a much better plan than getting a job.
This can't be true. Obama said you're required to buy decent health insurance. Many courts say different, but what do they know?
Wow, JoAnna, you're not really well versed in unemployment benefits or the healthcare mandate, are you? Read up some on how both of them are structured and then we'll talk.
JoAnna: The majority of the health bill hasn't taken effect yet. Did that escape you too?
Yeah it did, she's too busy just hating. That's what she does.
it's like JoAnna is a mouthpiece for Faux Noise...
I don't think that much of Hussein Obama's agenda has been pro American. between the sky-rocketing debt, and the welfare state mentality this guy brings to the table is as far away from the founding father's ideas of self reliance and freedom from Government interference as co and uld possibly be. aproviding health care bennies to illegals and declaring war on Appalachia's only industry and trying to insure 4.00-5.00 dollar a gallon gas is "the new normal.
So the Govenor of the state that has one of the worst education records, the highest number of minimum wage jobs in the country and ranks as the eighth highest level of poverty wants to lead this great nation=hello. He is the longest serving governor in the country and this his record, so if you are not intersted in eduatons, hight paying jobs, or reducing the level of poverty, he's your man, but he is not mine!
brilliant, john! explain how the Texas State Debt of $34 Billion, growing more and more under Perry, follows the Founding Fathers concepts of self reliance.
hmmm??
Time to get American working again!! Texas has an 8.2% unemployment rate. Texas has the most minumum wages jobs than just about any state. Texas had a HUGE deficit and debt!! And we want THIS holy roller to run the country?? NO thanks, I'll pass. Now if he went back to his liberal roots ( He was a campaign manager for Al Gore) I MIGHT rethink my position! But then, Ive yet to find a Republican I can trust! They have such a facility at lying. Not to mention that they deliberately created this debt crisis and crashed the economy, are in bed with corporations and the monied elite. NAH! I DONT THINK SO!!
PS... But I just MIGHT vote FOR him in the NH primary because Id love to see him run against Obama. Can we say shoo-in for Obama??
Better check you facts, or are those just your feelings, Yankee doodle. You just a lemming, standing in line for government handouts, waiting to cast you little vote for Obama.
First, Texas has a lower unemployment rate than the rest of the country.
Second, the numbers put out by YOUR SIDE show that one third of the new jobs in Texas are minimum wage. Did you take fourth grade math? If you subtract one third from the whole, you get TWO THIRDS- as in, two thirds of the job are above minimum wage.
Third, wrong on the deficit. Texas, like many other states, operates on a required balanced budget. So, the legislature balanced the budget- and there is a tidy $6 billion rainy day fund there, too.
As to his history with Al Gore- you can't blame somebody for figuring out that they were wrong, and adjusting their thinking.
If you are a full fledged adult and still a liberal, your i.q. has not caught up with your shoe size. But thanks for bringing that up- it will make me listen VERY CLOSELY for signs of a liberal in republican clothing.
Unemployment in Texas stands at 26th.
http://www.bls.gov/web/laus/laumstrk.htm
Texas budget deficits are long term debt for state.
http://www.statesman.com/news/texas-politics/texas-budget-challenges-could-persist-beyond-2011-1223479.html
Medium income in Texas is 5.9% below the national average.
Independent Republic: uh, been there. No thanks. We can do a whole lot better than dead last (when you're worse than Mississippi at something...like Texas is in education and clean air and water, let alone the worst in health care...you don't run around touting your plan to make the rest of the country the same...and expect anyone to do anything but laugh.)
Tom in NH,
A great geographic and gender diverse choice for VP if Gov Perry wins the nomination:
The excellent former Atty General and current US Senator from New Hampshire, Kelly Ayotte !
Chew on that, you moonbat.
@Independent Republic of Texas
His/hers little vote is equal to your little vote. So now you have to vote just to cancel his/hers out...ha.
Bob,
Why are you getting nasty? Cant you have a sane political discussion without nastiness or is that a cover for losing on the issues??? Just remember, in addition to what has happened recently with the debt ceiling silliness, voters will remember that the last 3 GOP presidents signed TWENTY deficit riddled budgets taht added over $11T to the debt. And they did it DELIBERATELY! Why would they want to elect a party that has brought this country to the verge of financial collapse???
How many jobs would Texas have without oil?
Do you liberals realize your calling entire states useless dumbazz's Do you really think you can get through this next hurdle by calling any area in the US any name you want and its no big deal! You realize your isolating huge blocks of people. I screen print this stuff and send it out to whats now over 2600 Independent voters. You have to realize what damage your doing to this country and your selves. I mean you all seem to stress and expunge on how much smarter than the rest of us you are! Heavens knows Feisty, Bev and Navybouy puff out their chests everyday expounding on everything left being virtuous!
Oh please...I guess it's only the liberals that do this?
I've been an independent my whole adult life (and I'm 65), and you wackos on both the left and the right really pi** me off. Why? Because you can't see that your attitudes are a major part of the problem, and do nothing to find a solution.
Too say nothing of the stupid, immature name calling.
Get a grip people!
Meet the new Bush - Same as the old Bush.
.
I have some beach front in New Zealand. I may just build and move there. This country is ravaged by a holes from all sides.
I love my coiuntry but it has been taken out of our hands. The Supreme court and the treasonous congress that is taking bribes from international corporations have sold us out.
Bye Bye
Pippo if I were young and just starting out I would move somewhere too. Sad isn't it? We were once the greatest country on earth.
Please, somebody ask him to clarify his Texas secession statements!!! I can't wait...
While he took Stimulus money!
Exactly how big is that GOP clown car?
LOL!
It's tiny, but they get an AMAZING number of clowns in there.
I'm beginning to think they bought the crew cab model.
What a mental picture! You need to send that idea to the DNC!
it's a monstrosity, they get to charge the taxpayers for fuel, so they don't care how big it gets....It may even be a fleet. planes, buses and automobiles. We should make a movie. Write that tubby kid with the glasses that makes movies, uh micheal, I kinda like him.
He didn't exactly "jump" into the race.
If you didn't see this coming from miles away, you weren't paying attention.
The rally in Houston was his kickoff rally.
http://theresponseusa.com/leadership.php
Wondeful!!!!! The one Republican candidate who can beat President Obama is running.
Really? Abraham Lincoln has been resurrected and he announced his candidacy? DEE, that's awesome news!
Seriously?
Be careful what you which for.
We had 8 years of a right wing religious neocon from Texas.
Been there, done that. No rinse and repeat.
Another Texas Idiot joins the Republican Race. It's going to be brutal, just brutal.
Oh no, not another Texan!!! OH No, I can see the war drums beating.....Let's bomb Iran....let's bomb Libya....let's bomb Africa....did I miss anyone? And did anyone see his transcript full of C's and D's as a college student.
Give me a break!
he's proud of his C's and D's just like W. Bush ... lol
Sally in Chicago
Oh no, not another Texan!!! OH No, I can see the war drums beating.....Let's bomb Iran....let's bomb Libya....let's bomb Africa....did I miss anyone? And did anyone see his transcript full of C's and D's as a college student.
Give me a break!
Yes Perry's treasonous act against US by wanting to secede from the union.
For a state to leave the union without the consent of Congress would be an act of war against the United States, and that’s the explicit definition of treason.
No wonder he took a photo op tooting a pistol.
It will probably be war with the Vatican. LOL
BIC, and others: You are right, Texas does not have the right to secede, but unlike any other state in the Union it DOES have the right to break off into 4 independent states. "Secession" has become a word, incorrectly used, to describe our ability to redraw the map. It may be semantics to some, but a state the size of Texas splitting apart would cause a great deal of logistical problems leading up to a national election; E.g.: How would the Electoral College be impacted? Food for thought.
Besides, every election cycle the "Secession movement" buys up bill boards and prints bumper stickers, but no one really takes them seriously.
"It is time to get America working again."
Don't you mean: "It is time to get America praying again."
Don't worry...you'll still have Freedom of Religion.
You may choose from any Christian denomination.
And we'd get FREE Burkas with our tax cuts!!
The fellow (Governor Perry) is corrupt to the core. This guy beats both ex-Gov Bblagojevich of Illinois and ex-Gov. Edwin Edwards of Louisiana in the scale of corruption he practices. His crony capitalism and embrace of conservative philosophy for the sake of political convenience are beyond belief. If this guy ever becomes a President, he will beat George W Bush in the Stupidity Index.
But with all his flaws and the fiery tea party folks and the wealthy republican donors behind him, he is a formidable candidate to Obama. If he wins the Republican nomination, I give him more than 50% chance of beating President Obama in the general election in 2012.
only for the same or similar reasons Hitler came to power: really bad economic times where people are desperate and don't really care about the dark side. I really hope it hasn't come to that...
Remember to write in Parry with an A, like in America and Iowa. lol
Now, is this a sad statement of affairs, or what?
source? Lot of accusations there. Might even be true, but without a source...
SBrookes, you asked for a source. Here you go.

Doesn't he realize that being Governor of Texas disqualifies him for the White House?
"Making Washington DC as inconsequential as possible". As above. Someone needs to inform Perry he just announced he is running for President of the United States. Not President of Texas.
I know it is strain on your brain but DC should be a very small part of our lives. Conservatives don't need DC to direct our daily activity, only libs who need the nanny state to tell them how to live.
The fact that you libs are spewing hate, tell me you are nervous. My German Shepperd could beat Obama at the moment.
Why don't you just secede already and shut up...
hey IRT, How many Texans get their paycheck from the federal government? How many military bases do you have, NASA, etc.? So their paychecks are just a small part of their lives?
Independent: you're right. You heard Perry, he's going to take governmnet OUT of our lives. And wasn't it nice to see all our flags behind him? Unlike Obama's gold cloth??? Says something doesn't it? These Progressive/Socialist Liberals are OUT!
Independent...Nervous about some right wing fanatic running for president? You make me laugh. One more extreme GOP candidate in the mix doesn't do anything but tell me the gene pool is empty in the GOP.
The only problem I have with the current president is he won't stand up to the dimwits in the GOP that are destroying the middle class of this country. That started years ago under your most famous conservative president Reagan. Whom I might add today would be listed by you as one of your libs spewing hate bs. Your ignorance is showing.
Independent: Is Texas fighting the wars in Iraq fand Afghanistan for America?? Texas is running around the country keeping our food safe, watching airplanes from FAA towers, filling all the jobs at the FBI and CIA, building bridges and highways and cutting the social security and medicare checks?? Wow...go out of town for a weekend and look what you miss!!
Given two Bush's and now a self proclaimed prophet of the established wealthy and Tea bagger 'let's get Obama no matter what it does to the nation' fundamentalists, I would say let Texas go - they would be knocking on Washington's door for foreign aid in a flash. Low pay, low income and debt and debt and debt. And get off the garbage about Washington running your daily life. That's the cry of people who are homophobic, xenophobic, separatists, elitist and simply unconcerned about community life and what it means to be a democracy with responsibilities in this country. Give 'em a bible and gun and praise the Lord, vote for Perry. God help us all.
Perry doesn't recognize America.....he supplicates to oil barons, period. And he already seceded from reality. The majority of people in this country voted for President Obama in 2008, and since then, the Republican party has disintegrated into a totally disastrous extremist party now known as the teapublicans. Says a lot for the backbone of that party when they can't work for the good of the country after the disaster they created in the first place. Oh no, they just spawn hate, racism, ludicrous revisions to our constitution to try to somehow justify their dangerous political games, and they expect the non-hysterical majority of people in this country to give them any kind of control in 2012. The teapublican party is unhinged and have gone way over the line, and they are going to be thrown out on their butts in 2012 and good riddance. I suggest they get themselves straightened out and sane again before they even begin to expect any kind of hand in the governance of this country after the disasters they have brought down on our heads. Teapubicans do not function in reality, and the majority of Americans see it, and because of the teapublicans idiocy and lunacy and dangerous political games on our backs and hysterial hyperbole, the majority of Americans are going to throw them out on the butts in 2012. Buyers remorse for 2010, I can assure you. I know a boatload of Republicans who in no way shape or form are going to vote for teapublicans, and are most certainly voting for Democrats, and President Obama in 2012. Ah, there are actually some sane Republicans left, but they don't exist in Congress or in the states, and are getting thrown out with the trash in 2012, I can assure you.
Texas has the highest rate of uninsured citizens in the country--the lowest rate of college grads, the lowest state support of public education, the highest rate of minimum wage jobs, and the worst air and water quality in the country. As someone once said...you're all hat and no cattle.
Thank you illegal immigrants from south of the border. You do Texas right.
Since this is silly Saturday , Ir of T, can you answer a question for me? ? Does your governor wear a hair piece.?
Just saw him on television giving his speech. Sure looks like a very expensive hair piece. But I could be wrong.
Texas thrives IN SPITE OF Rick Perry and NOT BECAUSE of Rick Perry. He is a liar and does not keep his campagn promises. 3 times when he ran, promised to secure the border, but right after he wins, he backs off.
$10,000 a month rent for a mansion while the Gov. Mansion is being repaired. Who the heck needs a 10K x month for temporary housing? Hypocrite!
wow independent you could consider texas "little china" very comparable just smaller, seems you have a good many rich folk keeping the stats up making the poor not seem so poor on paper . nice facts also AP.
IRT: Fellow Texan here... Please excuse the name callers. The only thing missing from Texas right now is rain... we don't need these or any others telling us how to think. We are an independent lot. By my experience, our Democrats are more conservative than most Northern Republicans.
BTW: I won't vote for Gov. Perry, or President Obama, or any other currently elected official. They have ALL failed us, and shame on us for voting them into office. I didn't vote for (then) Mr. Obama, but not because he was/is a Democrat. I wrote in (wasted my vote) because I didn't know what the man stood for. "Change" is not enough to get my vote... I needed more information and i couldn't find it. I take responsibility for that; Not going to blame a faceless news agency.
Both "sides of the aisle" should wake up and demand more from your elected officials. By evolving into a 2-party system, we find ourselves forced to vote for extremes (Right or Left, with no middle ground to choose from). Just once I'd like to see a politico have the guts to say "I'm independent"... and truly be independent.
Vote them all out. No incumbents in 2012!
...agree...KICK OUT THE INCUMBANTS.... let's put politicians in that will work together to get good ideas put in place for the good of the USA...like Bush (just kidding)
...oh ya...Texaas is one of the largest poluters...cattle farts...more distructive than auto fumes
Perry does not have any greatest accomplishments in Texas:
A 34 billion dollar budget deficit
Texas Ranks #1 in population living below the poverty line ( 17.2 % ).
•Worst environmental record in the United States
•Ranks #1 in illiteracy
•Ranks # 1 on the poorest gun regulations in the US and highest per capita gun murder rates in the US
•Ranks #1 with the highest real estate taxes per $1,000 value of a home in the United States
