President Obama's speech today in Holland, MI was billed to be about jobs and the advanced battery facility there at Johnson Controls Inc. that received money from the stimulus, creating more than 150 jobs. But his remarks also served as a jab at the gridlock in Congress after S&P's recent downgrade of America's credit rating.
“Unfortunately, what we've seen in Washington the last few months has been the worst counter partisanship, the worst kind of gridlock. And that gridlock has undermined public confidence and impeded our efforts to take the steps we need for our economy. It's made things worse instead of better.”
Obama continued, “There is nothing wrong with our country; there is something wrong with our politics.”
And unlike earlier this week, when it seemed the president was unwilling to directly criticize Congress for this gridlock and its responsibility for the S&P downgrade, today he was clear about where he places the blame.
“This downgrade that you're reading about could've been entirely avoided if there had been a willingness to compromise in Congress,” he said.
“We can't afford to play games, not right now; not when the stakes are so high for our economy," Obama added. "And if you agree with me, it doesn't matter if you're a Democrats or a Republican or an independent -- you've got to let Congress know. You've got to tell them you've had enough of the theatrics, you've had enough of the politics, stop sending out press releases, start passing some bills that we all know will help our economy right now. That's what they need to do. They've got to hear from you."
But the president said he has no intention of calling Congress back to work during its August recess. “There's been a lot of talk in Washington right now that I should call Congress back early.” he stated, “The last thing we need is Congress spending more time arguing in D.C. What I figure is they need to spend more time out here listening to you and hearing how fed up you are.”
Those lines were met by applause.

It wasn't gridock Mr. President...
It was a manufactured crisis in which the Teapublicans got to test out how effective 'hostage taking' could be.
The results speak for themselves - Mission Accomplished!
I have been & continue to be one of your biggest supporters, but, there comes a time for YOU to use the bully pulpit & that would be starting NOW!
Channel some inner LBJ or Truman will ya?
Everytime now when i hear people clamouring for Obama to use the bully pulpit or in essence be a bully i think of EMINEM's song titled "Bully". Eminem would stand up to the true bullies, the GOP.
Eminem Bully Song Lyrics excerpt
Poor Obama, longing for the days when he had a super majority.
Too bad for him and the libbies he, in typical Obama fashion, squandered it.
Funny too that the libbies didn't see this coming. They literally shoved Obamacare down the country's throat and now are surprised that the republicans are not in a mood to compromise.
Oh well, it matters only for the next 15 months. Plus we got us a Super Commission to come to the rescue.
What could go wrong?
Admitedly a hostage situation.
... a STUPID, harmful hostage situation.
Isn't that Hillary's job? She raps, right?
I think you have to know how to govern before you can use the bully pulpit. He should have just threatened to give two speeches a day, instead of just one. That probably would have worked. The bully pulpit?....nah.
Amen Feisty,
Mr President do like Chris Matthews said; point out the roads and crumbling infrastructure for everyone to see.
Howard Fineman gave it to your staff; use it.
I hav supported you since you were a Senator in Illinois. In fact, I still have my memorabilia I'm saving for my grand kids and great grand kids. I have faith in you and know you are thee adult in the room.
It's time to spank those thugs in the t-party. Show them how we do it here in Chicago.
Embarrass them; for saying no to you plans and accomplishments. We got your back.
"Channel some inner LBJ or Truman will ya?"
Double 'amen' to that.
And, a lot of FDR!
Thanks Bev & Richard!
I forgot about FDR! ;o)
BREAKING NEWS: Elizabeth Warren to run for MA Senate bid!
WHOOO HOOO!
"Poor Obama, longing for the days when he had a super majority.
Too bad for him and the libbies he, in typical Obama fashion, squandered it."
It's not called 'rope a dope' for nothing.
Get it yet?
Or are you still laying on the mat?
This coming from a President who actually wanted a clean vote...gimme a break. Blame it on the rain Milli Vanilli.
Politicians luv people with short memory. Remember the last two years when Dems owned all the houses of Goverment.
That is when they should have raised it. Oh wait would people see the extreme debt and get mad!
Bad politics right before the election, huh?
What a cry-baby...wah...wah...wah...Man up, man! Or can't you? Reminds me of my 9 year old: The dog ate my my homework. Ptui...
Great speech today by the President.
Between the lines, the 'prez is saying that, absent the rancor, he could have flown his load of dog-crap in "under the radar screen" and gotten away with it, um, until the next election. Maybe so. He's just pissed off that the Congress wouldn't let him irresponsibly kick this can of budgetary nitroglycerin down the road just a little bit further, in hopes that it wouldn't explode until sometime after November 2012, or even better, after January 2017. Sorta like what Warren Harding and Calvin Coolidge did to Herbert Hoover.
BWAAK! Spanky says...
[Poor Obama, longing for the days he had a super majority.]
So let's take a look at that "super-majority", shall we:
January 3, 2009 - 111th Congress sworn in. 55 Democrats, 41
Republicans, 2 Independents, 2 vacant.
January 15, 2009 - Roland Burris sworn in to Barack Obama's seat.
56 Democrats, 41 Republicans, 2 Independents, 2 vacant.
April 30, 2009 – Arlen Specter changes parties. 57 Democrats, 40
Republicans, 2 Independents, 1 vacant.
July 7, 2009 – Al Franken seated. 58 Democrats, 40 Republicans, 2
Independents. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THE DEMOCRATS HAD A SHOT AT A
60-VOTE MAJORITY.
August 25, 2009 – Teddy Kennedy dies. Kennedy had missed 97% of
the votes in 2009 and over 90% in the last half of 2008. 57 Democrats, 40
Republicans, 2 Independents, 1 vacant.
September 25, 2009 – Paul Kirk appointed to Teddy Kennedy's seat.
58 Democrats, 40 Republicans, 2 Independents.THIS IS THE SECOND TIME
THE DEMOCRATS HAD A SHOT AT A 60-VOTE MAJORITY.
February 4, 2010 – Scott Brown sworn in to replace Paul Kirk. 57
Democrats, 41 Republicans, 2 Independents.
June 28, 2010 – Robert Byrd dies. Byrd had missed over 90% of the
votes in 2010 and almost 50% in 2009 due to illness. 56 Democrats, 41
Republicans, 2 Independents, 1 vacant.
November 29, 2010 - Mark Kirk sworn in to replace Roland Burris.
56 Democrats, 42 Republicans, 2 Independents.
So that "Huge, overwhelming
super-majority," It existed only for a total of 6 months AND only during
two periods when Teddy Kennedy and/or Robert Byrd were unable to vote AND
required them to get the votes of every Democrat plus BOTH independents.
FACT: The "Democrat supermajority" was a myth, or
rather, a GOP political spin to hide their actions.
FACT: The GOP used every roadblock, filibuster, and secret hold
they could think of so that EVERY bill had to have a 60-vote margin to pass.
Spanky, are you just stupid, or did you expect everyone to just swallow your bull@!$%#...
...here's your sign, you ambulance chaser...
"Obama says downgrade could have been avoided with less congressional gridlock"
How? Standard & Poors said that we needed to reduce the Deficit by $4 Trillion to avoid a downgrade, but Obama wanted a 'clean vote' with no cuts at all, and Obama had to be dragged 'fighting and screaming' to get to the $2.4 Trillion cut - but it just wasn't enough for Standard & Poors.
More 'spin' at work from Obama.
Funny. Then how did Obamacare get passed?
Micky, thanks for putting the fact out there for all to see.
Well done!!
KingK, you must support PaulRyan-care?
Everyone needs to realize that the PPCA (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) is a step forward and if anyone objects to any provision, changes can be made.
All those against PPCA read this article on how the Paul Ryan Plan is MORE optimistic about future health care costs thus is "padding" its numbers and the Paul Ryan Plan INCLUDES the projected savings from "Obamacare" in its own budget! Search, Read, Report!

BILL Clinton would have been able to discuss with both sides and come out with a solution. There is a lot of blame here for our President
Sorry, I'm still stuck on the assertion that Obama ever had a , "super majority" in congress. A super majority is a filibusterer proof voting block; which he never had. Congressional Republicans have been able to stand in the way of every bill put forward by Democrats and the administration to the point that they have brought the congress to a virtual stand still. Right wingers will deny this point until they feel the need to stroke heir egos by admitting that they have the ability to kill bills or filibuster them. It's another example of the narcissism that permeates that side of the aisle; the ability to side step any sense of responsibility and accept no criticism or blame while simultaneously blaming others for their perceived shortcomings.
Oh, and of course this commentary takes focus away from the Presidents actual statement; that our political process is broken. Politics is the art of compromise. In fact that used to be the big criticism of politicians that helped lead us to where we find ourselves. Politicians were seen as spineless and compromising. A certain block of voters, and I will let you guess where they align themselves, longed for a type of politician who would stake out an ideological stance and maintain it come hell or high water. Now a certain side of the aisle has found out how to manicure extremism so it appears as moral fortitude. We must remember that the ability to win an argument does not mean that you are right.
Dems say the GOP is a do nothing party and that the Tea Party members are the troublemakers, then how do they explain the fact that the Dem controlled Senate has DONE NOTHING for over 800 days? How can they be so crazy to say the GOP blocks everything when they have tried every way in the world to block everything for over 800 days? I guess "compromise" means, "you have to do it my way or you aren't compromising!" The Prez thinks he is leading and that he is harmless in the downgrade when it is his fault for spending money like a college kid who has found some blank checks. Not only does HE have no clue how to lead, he isn't wise enough to surround himself with smart enough people who know how to show hime the way. I am just waiting for him to invoke the "It's all Bush's fault" line one more time (and lest we forget, Dems controlled congress the last 2 years of Bush, they led the committee that oversaw Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and the Banks as well).
Just wondering, Only_Grey...are you suggesting that it's ok for Dems to vote as a bloc but not repubs? Are you suggesting that with a (simple or super) majority the dems should always pass everything they want without republiocan objection; that lonce they have a majority the repubs should all just stay home? Are you suggesting that there is no need for the Dems to compromise? And if a republican majority house passes a bill the dem house doesn't need to compromise? They can just stall forever?
Gee, don't ya love one way streets?
I clapping just reading this! You tell 'em President Obama!
All talk, not even a hint of a solution.
But he's making AMy happy so he has that at least. Hey Amy how is the dragon slaying picture on your Trapper-Keeper coming?
Spanky-
All talk, not even a hint of a solution.
But he's making AMy happy so he has that at least. Hey Amy how is the dragon slaying picture on your Trapper-Keeper coming?
Me too Spanky; because it is all good and the truth.
Spanky,
Are you afraid to look at your 401(k) statement you fellow T-bagger terrorist took from you?
Amy, are you inebriated or just plain illiterate?
I hope Johnson Control's realizes that barry's wish is to tax them on their profits. See, it makes absolutely no sense for Johnson Controls to keep more of their profit to hire 150 workers, because that money needs to be paid to the federal guvmn't and if the federal guvmn't determines that Johnson Controls and other corporations deserve it the federal guvmn't will provide them money in a stimulus to hire people. Oh you might have to compete with the shovel ready people because you can't have all the jobs at your plant and the democrats like to see other people digging. Hey got an idea why don't we let Johnson Controls keep more of their money and maybe they can hire 300 people instead of 150, but you might get rid of unemployment numbers the democrats like them some unemployment numbers.
@Bob how do you JC would hire more people with the money they "save" from less taxes?
If the economy doesnt grow, if there is no increase in construction, if buildings are not leased, if alarm systems are not installed, there is no demand so why would JC hire more people?
JC will not hire more people in a slow economy they will just give it out as dividends.
Wait a minute- "gridlock could have been avoided with less gridlock"?
Who writes this stuff, Sara Palin or George W Bush?? C'mon, you guys....
Wow Drive By - you are now forced to equate Obama the great and all powerful orator to Palin and Bush?
That's gotta hurt. How about the fact that Obama is now ripping off McCain's old political slogans.
That is a mighty steep cliff he sliding down.
Are you and the Smith woman that stupid, or are you both just some kind of garden-variety dishonest?
Obama didn't say this, the person writing the headline for the story did. Go back, re-read it.
Sheesh. Kids- Buy 'em books, and they eat the covers.
You think I read the articles?
What for?
I was about to say "well, at least you're honest", but it didn't seem right, considering....
"How can I be held accountable? It's Norquist's fault." - Barack Obama
Norquist a hero of yours? He just wants to kill America and has pledged all the republicans in congress to help him.
They have all vowed to let America to go down before raising taxes on the richest. You must be proud of supporting those vowing to destroy America.
The republican tea party held our country hostage to get 98% of what they wanted. President Obama did not get what he wanted. So we are on tea party plan now and the economy is on you.
The lesson is, don't hold the country hostage to get what you want if you do not want to own the results.
Stupid, stupid, and wow how did you manage to say that. Normal msn commentary.
I really don't want to waste my time but I have to try right.
1. Stop calling the Tea party, T baggers. Childish.
2. Obama has blamed everyone else. Never seen him say sorry I messed up.
3. Why would Republicans want to destroy their country. That is the dumbest thing I have heard in oh wait I just read beverlys comment.
4. The Tea party is doing what they were elected to do, cut budget, slow down gov growth, and lower taxes. So uh, stop saying they are crazy.
5. Stop having little fights. Seriously maybe 5 people will see your comments.
Yes it is dumb for the republican party to want to destroy our country, so why are they doing it? Are you not aware of the republican pledge to Norquist who only wants to kill America.
Norquist wants to starve the beast (our government with no tax increases) until it is small enough to drag in the bathroom and drown in the bathtub. I'll bet if President Obama had said it, you would be upset.
Why are republicans fighting to keep the tax cuts and never raising taxes on the richest again if it is not all part of the starve the beast getting ready to move in for the kill?
Yes they were elected to assist Norquist in his goal with starving the beast with lower taxes yet, cutting budgets and slowing government growth and pretending it wasn't solely for the rich.
I know the folks didn't vote for killing Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security and that was all written in the budget plan that the tea house passed.
If government growth was really the problem they would all be screaming about getting out of the wars because that is some of the biggest spending we do.
>>Norquist wants to starve the beast (our government with no tax increases) until it is small enough to drag in the bathroom and drown in the bathtub.I'll bet if President Obama had said it, you would be upset.<< If Obama ever said anything like that, I'd vote for him. You, on the other hand, would be calling him an 'Uncle Tom' or an 'Oreo Cookie.' I am well aware of how you commie libs treat people like JC Watts, Clarence Thomas, Michael Steele, Condoleeza Rice, and any other 'minority' who dares to stray from the boundaries of your "Great Society" welfare-and-food-stamps Section 8 plantation. You don't want really free men, you want "house negroes" who won't bite the hand that feeds them.
Just so I understand this right you are for destroying our government.
I am a commie lib for thinking we need a government.
You are so confused about everything I can see already you are a waste of my time. You just have a pile of made up beliefs about who you think liberals are and somehow you are only free if you are beholden to the rich.
I noticed you didn't mention Colin Powell who I think was the only real man in the bunch you noted. He gave President Obama his support. Look how the republicans treated Colin by sending him out to do their lying about the moving WMD's in Iraq. That's how republicans really treat free men.
The Unit Toad
Just for the record, I love me some Colin Powell. See, I understand that his family immigrated here and blended in with the dominant culture so it's not his fault. Other Africans from the Diaspora have told me how Whites tell them to stay away from, Blacks are lazy, they want hand outs, blah blah blah. Call me crazy, if you like, why hasn't Colin written a book yet telling the truth about that warmed over bull sh!t about WMD's?
My guess is they probably threatened to kill him. At the time his son was over FCC; so it's no telling what or how they threatened him.
One thing for sure, Colin voted for Obama and I feel it had nothing to do with color.
Akid,
Excellent post!! But it is funny to see the same people posting the same old tired comments day after day. Keep up the great post!
JK/akid/unit toad
your parents must be sick of the thought of you being born!
Teabaggers are crazy
Grover Norquist want America To burn
when you talk about plantation your true colors are showing.
I find it Amazing that no one wants to point out the racist comments on most of these post. All of them coming from GOP/TP supporters!!! If thats not extreme than what is?
"If every one agreed with me, everything would be just fine!" - Barack Obama
JoAnnaSmith1
"If every one agreed with me, everything would be just fine!" - Barack Obama
Funny- I've never seen 'Grover Norquist' spelled that way before.
Isn't it funny how the libbies so easily cede power and responsibility?
They got there guy in the White house and control the Senate, yet it's Norquist/Boehner/McConnell's fault they can't get anything they want.
So Drive By was it Norquist that made Obama sign the tax law? Was Libya Boehner's idea?
Maybe McConnell forced Obama to keep Gitmo open and to ramp up troops in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Again, why bother voting - even when you all get power [see 2009-12/2010] you can't or won;t do anything with it.
Norquist + Gitmo + Afghanistan???
What the hell are you drinking today, or is the bigger quesiton, "How Much"??
Sure Drive By cause this article talked about Norquist, right? Of course it did.
or maybe you are right - Obama is Norquist's puppett. Sucks for you.
Sadly no drinking going to dentist right now.
Sad how the Republicans can lose their place in the narrative, obfuscate, deny, change the subject...
Spanky-
Sure Drive By cause this article talked about Norquist, right? Of course it did.
or maybe you are right - Obama is Norquist's puppett. Sucks for you.
Sure, Spanky that's why the President wants to raise your revenues. FYI: the President signed so the unemployed could have money. You wouldn't know anything about that; would ya?
Sadly no drinking going to dentist right now.
While you are at the dentist can you have him wire you pie-hole shut?it 'll give you somthing ls to focus on
"They got there guy in the White house and control the Senate, yet it's Norquist/Boehner/McConnell's fault they can't get anything they want."
Fault.... as in faulty?
For three numbskulls you mentioned, Yes.
[Sadly no drinking going to dentist right now.]
Going to get your tooth cleaned?
Why is Joanna posting her own thoughts as quotes by President Obama?
Mary ,
well spoken!!
[Why is Joanna posting her own thoughts as quotes by President Obama?]
Because she's Smiffy!
"Obama says gridlock could have been avoided with less congressional gridlock"
Wow, is this guy on his game, or what? Harvard educated, streets of Chicago smart, votes "Present", and "Leads from behind". How we going to get along without the guy after next year?
JS1- how about we challenge the liberals to provide us proof of Obama taking responsibility for anything at all.
The economy, GDP, unemployment, the downgrade, spilling the catsup. . .
"not communicating" failure into success does not count.
Just one example of his accepting blame will do.
I thinks it's going to be a loooong wait.
" How we going to get along without the guy after next year?"
I'm not sure. Where are you moving to?
Can you just hear Obama on the campaign trail.........." I said I would end the wars" ( but it's Bushs' fault I couldn't), "I said unemployment would fall below 8% if you let me spend 780 billion" ( there were no shovel ready jobs), "I said if you elect me, it will be the END of politics as usual" ( but it's Repubs fault ), "I said we would go after the Wall Street millionaires and billionaires" (but they give millions to my campaign), "I said we would stop exporting all the jobs to China" ( but CEO's like Jeff Immelt are my friends/czars so GE & others are exempt) and "I said I would fix the illegal immigration situation " ( but they are the future Democatic voters so forget it). BTW...I killed OBL ( unless you think the Navy Seals did it ).
LEONA-2986819
Can you just hear Obama on the campaign trail.........." I said
LEONA-2986819
Can you just hear Obama on the campaign trail.......
Blah Blah, Blah Blah, Blah Blah,
He tried all those things; but the anti-American baggers plundered and obstructed them and held America hostage.
Ain't nothing wrong with a little"ransom" McConnel said.
Leona,
Good one!
hey Bev, the truth hurts when you worship a FAILURE but you'll get over it and there are still some Liberals left who you can worship.........Barney (gay/prostitution ring) Frank, Maxine( I funneled $ to my husbands bank) Waters, Charlie ( I don't pay my taxes) Rangel, Anthony ( I resigned due to sexting scandal ) Weiner, Sheila ( I illegally gave my family members jobs/money) Jackson Lee and Debbie Wasserman ( loud mouth/obnoxious/liar) Schultz.
Much better to have Rick (leader of the Army of God, leading us to the rapture) Perry or Michelle (my opinion trumps both facts and history) Bachmann or Sarah (abstinence works on everyone but my daughters) Palin and can't forget Larry (is that your foot in the next stall) Craig,
People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
" Harvard educated"...Am I supposed to be impressed that he went to that dirty little junior high down the street from MY alma mater?
Poor delusional little toad.
"Much better to have Rick (leader of the Army of God, leading us to the rapture) Perry or Michelle (my opinion trumps both facts and history) Bachmann...."
For sure. Everyone would agree.
Mr Obama- do this:
Call congress back. Then, come up with some details regarding your $4 trillion plan, and then tell Congress you will no longer be offering $1 in revenue for each $3 in cuts. Tell them now that we've been downgraded, the cost has gone up to $2 for each $3. The American people support increasing revenue- only a relative few Norquist supporters and me-firsters do not. The numbers are on your side. Use 'em.
If congress fails to take the deal, at least you will have some damned good campaign ad copy to use!
This is what Liberals dream about at night. A strong, defiant, take charge Obama that tells everyone what to do, and a man that gets things done.
Then they wake up, and see this wimp of man called Obama, confused, broken, tired, indecisive, and clueless. And they are just so disappointed.
"Vote for me, because if you didn't, you'd probably be voting for someone else." - Barack Obama
Sooo- if he DID take charge and tell everybody what to do, how long would it take you to howl about THAT.
About two milliseconds, I'd guess.
Seems like that's exactly what he did with HCR so as to insure 30 million people (YOUR fellow citizens), and you are still in an uproar.
Don't hold your breath Drive By.
It just ain't in him. You are only setting yourself up for more disappointment.
What he did with HCR was to throw us under the bus. He decided that his agenda was more important then working on the economy and JOBS!
Almost three years of Obama's agenda, and now a half a@@ attempt to do his job. But, first its vacation time.
Does anyone know how much the non war in Libya has cost us?
Joanna, I think the "Rents too damn high" guy would have done a better job than Milli Vanilli.
The rent is too damn high!
Speaking of rent, I read that the Government is thinking of using the foreclosed homes as rentals? In other words aka Section 8.
"Sooo- if he DID take charge..." Finer words have never been said by a liberal. So you are saying that he is just a wuss... It's nice to know that you don't even have the back of your own guy... Too funny...
why are the faggs in congress on break now? We need jobs while they take a vacation from their so called jobs!
JK/akid/unit toad
suck a big fat d!ck, but you w/boys wouldn't know nothing about that. Reason why your wife is still curious about the Black anaconda!!!!
OBAMA 2012
"Then they wake up, and see this wimp of man called Obama, confused, broken, tired, indecisive, and clueless. And they are just so disappointed."
Joanna, I only disagree one one point. He's definitely NOT tired. Obama finds time and energy to play b-ball, golf, go on multi-vacations, and hang out with Hollywood celebs, Wall Street donors and NBA teams.
Leona, I generally don't begrudge a President doing his job outside of Washington at a place where he can have privacy and relax a bit, since he is the POTUS 24/7 regardless where he is. ALWAYS "on call". I do believe Obama is doing himself a disservice in this instance, however, insisting on going away from DC to Martha's Vineyard when he really ought to set the example to stay put at the White House and call the legislature back into session. It is, after all, not the inability to pay our sovereign debt that has cost us our coveted AAA credit rating, but rather our demonstrated lack of resolve in dealing with the fundamental issues and policies that are leading us to an inevitable default if left on their present course.
It may be time to take the budget seriously, dontcha think?
The democrats are leaderless. The President disappears, comes out and make partisan speeches that are always the same, and disappears again, Harry Reid is a political hack and Nancy (who has bigger balls than either of the other two) is marginalized as minority leader. What are you gonna do dems?
Ya got nothin'
"Ya got nothin'"
Sort of right. We don't got Perry, Palin, Pawlenty, Bawkmann, Romney......need I go on??
I notice Drive, that you don't say anything about the lack of leadership I mentioned.
And yeah, you got nothin'. So, do go on and realize that come November of 12' that whoever the repub nominee is will likely spank the President.
Poor Buzz. Angry, confused, muttering, and asking himself why Obama just doesn't listen to him anymore.
"If the economy would do better, we'd probably have a better economy." - Barack Obama
Well of course not... You know it's bad when even your own peeps can't even defend you...
yawn...another speech
Teleprompters engaged? Check
List of people and things to blame besides my failed policies? Check
Tell you I'm definitely going to present my plan to fix - sometime soon? Check
Wake me up when it's over.
Aren't you clever, that teleprompter nonsense went out of style about 2 years ago, TexasT. FYI, Bush used a teleprompter. It sure beats having them shuffle notes around.
Heh Heh heh....he said 'teleprompter'.
Speaking of folks that 'got nothing'.
Tell that to the very Reverend Al Sharpton. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjMZIC4DawM
Maybe if I say it slowly. The nonsence went out of style, teleprompters didn't go out of style.
But Bush did it? You're right DBO, "got nothing"
JoAnnaSmith1: Keep the comma behind "Present" within your quotation marks. Wow, are you on your game or what? How would we ever get along without you?
Do you see how petty your remarks are?
Don't be pickin' on my girl, Gail.
I mean- if she weren't afraid of the man, she wouldn't feel it necessary to get on here and trash the guy every post. Ain't that right, NoJo?
Good for you, Mr. President. Let the children in Congress sit in "Time Out" for the month of August. If they want to actually try and get anything done let them call themselves back into session. The Constitution gives The President power to call Congress into session but it doesn't give The President the power to make them do anything.
Spare me the rhetoric of "What's Obama's Plan?" Congress still has the job of legislating...a job that they seem uninterested in doing. This "Super Committee" promises more of the same.
No, Congress can sit back and chill out if that's what they want. Leave it up to them if they want to go back to work...and by "work" I don't mean more of this "Do It My Way Or Else" BS!
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Yes, Mr. President, and I voted for you because you said you would change the way Washington works .
Have you succeeded at all if you haven't whose responsibility is that?
Why it's Bush's fault, of course.
Oh, and Barack has accomplished that. So what do you think, at least so far?
I don't know what you're (conservatives) so gleeful over, you're ideas are as half-a-loaf as the the other guys and your mistaking buyer's remorse for a mandate will see you having your own comeuppance and your asses handed to you the same way the democrats got theirs in 2010, and you got yours in 2006 and 2008.
The country goes to hell in a hand-basket and the partisans cheer the failures of the opposition..
That was "...your ideas"
dangerfield - good observation.
Cons never think any further than win/lose.
5 miles wide is all they see, never the all-important 1/2" deep...no critical though about ANYTHING. It's sad because it's nothing a good education wouldn't fix.
Long before the Aug 2 deadline, I suspect both sides pretty much knew what they would give and what they would take. Bet the Prez had a hole care--ammemdment 14? Bet Timmie and his toadie Benny had some hole cards as well so we were no where near a default. I believe S&P was out for revenge for the congressional hearings. I believe that the 111th congress looked at the ecomony for two years and did nothing, unemployment, fiscal mess and about it because it was political suicide. They could have, should have and had the responsibliity to shape our economy long before the new congress. If they would have done their jobs, it would never have come to this.
I'm not the Prez's biggest fan but he said some things I agree on. Partisian politics in Washington is nearly as bad as partisian politics on FR>

Unless you have a magic wand; and he does not. But, the President can cudgel them by showing the public the hostage takers in the t-party refuse jobs for infrastructure.
Its totally true and the financial market proved by going up 6 % in 4 hours .Totally manipulated by man not the market .. the republicans created the whole market shift and caused seniors to lose close to 72K dollars of their retirement savings ....the elections will be a interesting !
Do a little more research, it wasn't due to any party. Nice try to make a weak statement, you succeeded.
@sy it isn't so--"........The Republicans created the whole market shift and..........."
I marvel at some of these postings and wonder???????????????????
The marked is about as stable as 40 year old dynamite.
With a comment like that i would doubt you have the ability to comprehend the inner workings of the stock market ! Its obvious that your education level is that of the 8th grade !
Then yours must be of a 6th grader. For sh*ts and giggles, post the link.
Beverly in Chicago, A magic wand? The only magic Washington under stands is MONEY@POWER . Jobs yes but like I said if you need to have help in what this country needs you can"t make the other side WANT TO HELP! They want back what they lost, POWER.
The blameless one blame shifting again. Of course my outa control spending had nothing to do with it. It was Bushes fault! Err...I mean, it was the gridlock or some thing.
Man...I'm so glad I don't have to run to the mailbox once a week for my check...What about you?
Obama is wrong! The downgrade could have been avoided long ago with an economic policy of more butter and less guns.

Consider the overall cost to US taxpayers of actually finding and killing Osama Bin Laden with a small elite unit? The insanity of attempting to swat a fly with a cannon (purchased on credit) continues.
Well it's another case of finger pointing and failing to take responsibility by Mr. Obama. He had two years with complete control of both the House and Senate to address the deficit spending and debt issues. He/they did NOTHING! Then when Mr Obama himself finally got around to late submitting a proposed budget for 2011, well into the fiscal year, it couldn't even pass the Senate. Not one single Senator voted for it. Not even Harry Reid!!!! Then he sat back and waited for the House to do the job he and the Dem controlled House and Senate should have done back in 2010 before the November elections. The only reason he/they didn't do anything back then was because he/they were afraid the voters would completely reject their plans, resulting in even greater losses than what they suffered in the November elections. It is really quite sad to see our President engaging in such childish blame games. But when you lack the willingness to lead I guess all you have left is finger pointing and name calling. Perhaps he will start to grow up now that he has turned 50.
Three years and all he keeps coming up with is its someone else fault. Appears he did not read his job description that states he is the head of the executive staff. He also AGAIN has failed to read a report (S&P) which states Democrat and Republican. But then again he never said sh&& when a majority Democrat congress/senate never did a budget.
JAKE: Can you name me another president who has entered office with a greater challenge facing him since FDR was elected during the Depression years??? I cannot, and your party has done everything in their power to destroy Obama. I cannot recall a more contentious opposition party since, well, I guess since Clinton was in office.
This is what your party does, they look for specks of flys**t to go after the opposition party. When I lookback on the Clinton years and think how he was hounded by the Right from his first day to the last, how a sitting president was impeached for lying about sex, it's almost too much to comprehend. So don't say Obama just blames others, he's got plenty to blame for our current dilema. I truly believe that your party would gladly destroy the economy of this country for the next two years if it meant defeating Obama, and that is just about the most dispicable thing I can imagine.
Unfortunately he is simply not up to the challenge. And he is certainly no FDR. That is the problem. The voters placed a guy in office that was really not prepared for the job. How can you talk about compromise when you are playing the blame game and refusing to compromise yourself? Why didn't Obama address these issues in 2010 when he had control of the House and Senate?? Where is the vision? Where is the leadership? If the best he can do is to send John Kerry and David Axelrod out to call the TEA Party "terrorist" while he soft peddles the same message in his own speeches it is pathetic and no one is buying it, not even his most ardent supporters. With each passing day his term in the White House is becoming one giant painful joke. And he has no clue about what to do about it. He will continue on with the same blame game speeches and vague general proposals while the electorate scratches its head and says where is the leadership. Of course, Mr Obama will respond by saying "present" but his actions will show that he is actually AWOL.
I did not realize that Al Sharpeton had been elected to office? Bush and Palin (writes notes on her hand) were.... Interesting comeback JoAnnaSmith ....
The REP/TP are showing themselves to be a bunch of cheap lazy SOBs.You a$$eS live in this country and enjoy all the freedoms we have but are to dam cheap to pay taxes.I'm tired of hearing you babies cry about not raising taxes.Especially for the rich.If you don't want to pay your fair share get, the HELL out.
