Rick Perry headed to Iowa on Sunday

After his stops on Saturday in New Hampshire and South Carolina (where he's expected to announce his presidential intentions), Rick Perry heads to Iowa the next day, the Des Moines Register reports.

And it's the day after the Ames Straw Poll.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry will speak Sunday at a fundraiser hosted by the Black Hawk County Republicans, his campaign has confirmed. The Lincoln Day Dinner event in Waterloo will mark Perry’s first visit to Iowa as a potential 2012 presidential candidate.

According to Politico, Perry also will make another trip back to New Hampshire next Wednesday, speaking at its Politics and Eggs event.

Just hold him there until God comes to pick him up, okay?

If God really wants him to be President, it shouldn't be too long.

If not, then the rest of us pledge to pay for his maintenance.

With John Hagee at his side, going hand in hand.

I'm still winning...but losing ground.

@ Ira ~ Don't worry. I have a trigger in place.

When it gets back to 25, we'll call it a day.

@ Feisty ~ I hear it's very, very heavy. Long lines, even in the rural areas.

Farmers get up early, thank heaven.

Perry can meet up with the Wisconsin Democratic state representatives as they again run away from their jobs.

JoAnna, my dear, I assure you I got the point the first time.

Are you never going to stop your carping about the runaway Senators?

Sigh.

Okay, then, here's the difference. They ran away try to avoid passing legislation that they, in good conscience, opposed. They knew they were risking everything.

The House Republicans ran away to avoid the consequences of highly unpopular legislation they had already passed. In short, they desire to risk nothing.

Get it now?

Jody -

Maybe he'll visit some diner in Council Bluffs.

Every one of them I visited (and did NOT eat in) was a ptomaine palace. Now wouldn't that be ironic, since this election season Perry has the runs?

Why don't these "losers" just stay home. I am tried of hearing their crap on TV. The only reason these losers are running is to get a seat at the table after the election.

Bachmann - will "twist and turn and crash and burn" early in the primaires - she never had a chance past her "rock star" status. But she is nutty enough to be accepted by the far right.

Palin - her star has already faded and she is starting to see it.

Pawlenty - who and he was the govenor next door. Only chance is everyone else drops out.

Cain - only chance if he is the sole surviring member of the GOP and he votes for himself, then he would win the primary - but that's all.

Huntsmann - again - who? He has a snow balls chance in hell to make it through the primary - not nutty enough.

Romney - He may be the front runner, but the nutty right would never allow a Morman into the White House - as he's not "one of them"

Trump - old news, he will only run if it will increase the viewership to his TV show.

What's going to hurt the GOP isn't a list of "wannabe" canidates, but being tied to the tea baggers that held this country as a finanical hostage.

And even if one of these "canidates" does win the GOP nomination, they still need to have gone through the primaries and not get labeled as being too close the far right - because they still need the support of moderates and independants to win the White House. And like that's going to happen.

They'll be headed to the State Fair next, too, to check out the butter cow. I'll be glad when the Ames Straw Poll is over because I'm tired of the phone calls asking me which of these wonders I'll support and would I like a ride to Ames. I swear, they found Mitt Romney's old contact list--in 2008, his campaign insisted I was a republican, even sent me a Christmas card.

You mean the Wisconsin Democrats who received a hero's welcome home--huge crowd cheering--those brave Democrats? We are behind you, may the winds of change prevail!

Let's make this final. Palin was never going to run. She decided that when she quit the governorship half way through. No one makes a decision like that without knowing the irreparable consequences. She decided to cash in on her celebrity status instead. The Magic Bus Tour, which was only half completed as well, and all her other antics are an attempt to stay relevant and profitable. Trump too.

Bachmann started to drop in the polls when the stock market dropped. Interesting correlation, and well deserved Queen of the Tea Party Downgrade. Now Ron Paul has pulled ahead of her.

Pawlenty has had to resort trash talk to look tough. But a homesick boy scout he will forever remain. And then there's Cain...look I realize there are blacks who are Republican. But come on, it's tokenism. If conservatives must do that, I like "The Rent's Too Damn High" guy better.

As for Perry -- whah, whah, whah whah whah -- (from Peanuts), that's what I hear when his lips are moving. I can just fill it in with something Dubya said.

Huntsman and Romney are the only ones who did not sign the Norquist pledge, and Huntsman is the only one who has not embraced default by not raising the debt ceiling. But both have supported the Paul Ryan Plan.--as well as all the others. What else do you need to know, really.

Perhaps Perry wants to go to Iowa and have an Elmer Gantry style prayer meeting. Maybe pay Jody and John B a visit.

Somehow it feels like Perry is already the new godhead of the republican party. He will destroy American just the same as any republican, but he will look so holy doing it.

We all know them texas tea party cowboys have one ear to the Koch brothers and one ear to god and guess which one they listen to the most.

Who to vote for? God told Michele Bachmann to run. Then God told Rick Perry to run. I wonder if God will tell Sarah Palin to run. I’m so confused.

I live in Texas, and he is a horrible governor. We rank almost at the bottom for education, number of people insured, high property taxes, and I can go on and on. He took stimulus money to "balance" the budget, and is taking money that we pay on our power bills every month to help the elderly and poor with air conditioning, to help "balance" the Texas budget. I could go on and on, and as much as I'd like to see him out of Texas, it would be even worse to have him as President.
