Bachmann attends church service denouncing homosexuality

WAUKEE, IA –- Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann yesterday attended a church here in Iowa, where the pastor called homosexuality "immoral" and "unnatural," and later showed a testimonial video from a man who claimed to have been gay before having a conversation with God.

Before the sermon at Point of Grace Church -- a non-denominational congregation near Des Moines -- Bachmann stood with her husband, Marcus Bachmann, before a crowd of about 100 people, clutching her personal copy of the Bible.

“This is a time that we need to be encouraged this week, not discouraged,” she said, referencing Friday night’s credit downgrade and Saturday’s news about the Navy SEALs killed in Afghanistan.

“Whatever is pure, whatever is lovely,” Bachmann said, reading from the book of Philippians, “think well on these things.”

The reading drew cheers. Pastor Jeff Mullen, standing next to Bachmann, took her Bible his hand. “There are some candidates who start running, and have this come-to-Jesus moment,” he said. "What I love about this Bible,” he said, “is how well it's used.”

Mullen offered a prayer honoring democracy. “We have a nation where people can still rise up and speak their voice, and say, ‘This is what I believe.’”

When Bachmann and her husband returned to their seats, Mullen began a half-hour presentation on his church's beliefs. Reading verses from the Bible to support his case, Mullen said, "We inherently know that homosexual behavior is immoral and unnatural."

“God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness,” Mullen said, reading from the book of Romans.

Mullen’s sermon concluded with video testimonial from a man named Adam Hood, who claims to have been gay before experiencing a conversation with God. "I am so happy God has given me natural affection for a woman," Hood said in the video, adding that his wife is nine months pregnant.

"We need to have compassion for people that are bound by that sin," Hood added. "And it is a sin. Call a spade a spade."

The Bachmanns remained in the church for the duration of the service, and afterward posed for a picture with Pastor Mullen and his family.

In an interview with NBC News, Mullen called his sermon on homosexuality “a bedrock, just a Biblical truth we’ve taught over the years.”

“It just so happens they were here today,” Mullen said of the Bachmanns. “And we were teaching on both marriage and homosexuality.”

The Bachmann campaign released this statement on Mullen's sermon: "Michele was an invited guest, she always welcomes the opportunity to meet with parishioners."

The Point of Grace Church service was the second church event Michele Bachmann attended on Sunday. Earlier, they visited the Des Moines First Church of the Nazarene, where the presidential candidate discussed the origins of her faith and political life.

This woman is very dangerous she cites a passage in the Old Testament before Jesus Christ was persecuted and died for payment for our sins. It is amazing there is no mention of it in later parts of the Bible but what they are not mentioning it is worse to judge for if you do you will be judged by God for your sin and when you face God will have to account for your sins and not attest for theirs as an excuse. Amazing that they say if you hide it from God you are an abomination evil and wicked when because of their views people are BULLIED and COMMIT SUICIDE at a higher rate in her District My suggestion to her is stop using God to promote your run for President because you are a blasphemer who will reap what you sow. Amazing Priests molest kids and blame the Gay This wonderful person says she cures people by praying the gay away which obviously does not work he is there when yopu wake up everday Michelle And are you serious that people are being taught to be Gay, Your husband was he taught His statement that you have to teach Barbarians to not to be Gay and you backpeddle Anbd now you believe it again Maybe you should choose Mitt Romney as your partner You and Him can flip and flop and take turns flipping and flopping And he can be dillusional that he is an expert at creating jobs and maybe he can teach you where the shot that was heard around the world but maybe not because he actually doesnt remember Massachusetts he is dillusional that he made this state great not Gov Deval Patrick a Democrat that is extremely similar to the President Oh by the way Mitt thank you for mandating health insurance at a higher penalty than the cost to the rast of the country Bet you got Alzheimers about that too

No religion should control government. Two seperate things. There are many churches, beliefs  and non beliefs, in the US. No one has the right to impose their belief on another.

Buck Fachmann and take her closeted hypocritic husband with her. Let them both find an honest way to earn a living. The two of the are demented souls whose fifteen minutes should have been over long ago.

How nice of Michelle to offer those beautiful words. For her and her ilke, however, I would add that unless, of course, it has oil or coal or something else to drill or mine for and destroy whatever was there before that was pure and lovely.

It seems like nowadays politicians need someone to discriminate against and someone whose freedoms are being withheld. How else can they get everyone riled up? For Hitler it was the jews; for Madame B it's the gays. In Minnesota she once snuck up on a gay rally at the capitol and hid behind bushes to observe these strange gay creatures. Apparently they didn't have those in Iowa where she is from. While doing this she was discovered by a local media team. They put her on camera and she quickly fled to her car. It was a hoot! Someone in Minnesota must have the tape. It's a scream! Poor Madame B, she had to sneak up on the gays like a hunter stalks it's game. That's probably because she never has met any gay people. It was like she was going to a petting zoo or something. We don't need someone with all of these hangups in the White House (or in congress for that matter). Lets work for freedom for eveyone. This is after all America.

True totalitarians seeking mind control, the people behind the gay agenda is promoting three big lies: 1. Homosexuality is genetically determined, 2. Change is not possible, and 3. Gay rights are part of the civil rights agenda. Homosexuality is placed on a par with race and gender. According to the gay agenda, these truths are obvious. No debate is needed. Opposition to these points signifies bigotry.

Well, opposition to equal rights signifies bigotry. I'm not sure if the genetic determination thing is all that relevant. Individual freedom should apply in either case.

Genetic determinism — Genes determine human choices and the trajectory of human development, we are told. This means that the gay is a programmed automaton and has no choice but to perform those sexual acts which the genes dictate. A full menu of sexual perversions are written into the genes and require only the right opportunity and stimulation to express themselves. This is nonsense, of course. Gays have free will and choice as do every human being. Sexual perversions must be learned through some combination of experimentation and instruction.

At present, there seems to be no scientific evidence linking particular genes to particular sexual practices.

Raymond, you are confusing sexual behavior with sexual orientation. Yes, it is a choice whether to engage in sex or not, but not in who you are attracted to. Did YOU choose whether you were going to be attracted to men or women?

                                #64.3 - Mon Aug 8, 2011 5:46 PM EDT

jock, Gay sexual activities is a behavior. Race and gender are permanent innate characteristics which are fixed at birth. No moral judgement can be made of race and gender because no one chooses their race or gender.

In contrast, a homosexual orientation seems to emerge in developmental stages. Individual choices and social environment profoundly influences the trajectory of development. Sexual perversions must be learned through experimentation and instruction. Such practices are subject to moral judgements.

The headline MSNBC puts on this article implies that only certain churches condemn homosexuality. The fact is homosexuality is clearly condemned in the Bible and has been condemned in Christian doctrine for 2,000 years. If anyone says homosexuality and Christianity are compatible, they're either ignorant or lying. There is no ambiguity about homosexuality anymore than there's there is about murder or adultery.

Bill, in fact many Christian churches do not condemn homosexuality. Many believe that Christ's teachings of love and compassion are more important than arbitrary rules written in a far away country 3000 years ago.

The negative prohibitions of homosexual practices in biblical scripture make sense only in the light of it's positive teaching in Genesis 1 and 2 about human sexuality and heterosexual marraige. Without the Bible's

positive teaching on sex and marriage, the homosexual question is bound to be skewed. Others prefer the big lie. The author of one of the criticized gay-gene studies is under investigation for science fraud by the National Institutes of Health for Science Fraud.

While he talked, I kept reading the stuff before and after what he had selected. I was about 10, and it didn't take too many weeks to realize the book didn't actually say what he claimed it did. I've read it front to back several times and researched what some of it says in the earliest available languages. I'm here to report that it doesn't record either God or Jesus saying a damned thing about homosexuality.
