WATERLOO, IA -- Tim Pawlenty continued to rebuke of President Obama's economic policies here at a the Black Hawk County Republican women's luncheon.
Pawlenty recounted a conversation he had with a 10-year-old boy, who told him that keeping taxes low will give people more money.
'We shouldn't have to have a 10 year old know more about the economy than the president of the United States," said Pawlenty. (In fact, Obama has continually cut taxes as president -- whether it was through the stimulus, extending the so-called Bush tax cuts, or enacting payroll tax cuts.)
In his first two stops today, he has remained focused on Obama, and has only generically mentioned the rest of the GOP field.
'His time is up," Pawlenty said of the president. "He's had three years in office. Stick a fork in him. He's done."

ummmmm chicken salad....... and nestles toll house cookies !.....Tim who?
Memo to Tim:
Quit forkin' around, you have some serious work to do.
Lemme get this straight:
Did this Mensa candidate just admit that his financial adviser is,........a ten-year-old?
Well young children tend to repeat what they hear, until they hear/see something else & make up their own minds. Same goes for Norquist-eans that wear horse blinders.
How VILE, gross and unpresidential to say something like this about any human being at all.
Now for the Pawlenty roast and don't skimp on the spuds.
Hasn't Obama done enough damage after 3 years of President-in-Training? Even to the most unsophisticated liberal it should be evident that his internship was a horrible mistake!
Just make a 'Pro and Con' list of his record and one would be hard pressed to come up with even a single 'Pro', lol. How many liberals today are secretly wishing Hillary were President?
First time in history the USA's credit has been downgraded! Both China (communist) and Russia (formerly communist) can criticize America for it's spending addiction and they are right, our humiliation is now complete! TPaw is right!
We have no one to thank other than the GOP terrorists.Tim pawlenty is the one who needs the fork stuck in him.He was dead before running. As everyone knows he left Minnesota 6 billion dollars in debt. Maybe he should take the 10 year old's advice.
BenSnead, be careful.... criticize 'the appointed one' at this site and feisty redwig will throw the race card at you! That's the best response they can come up with defending Obama's abysmal record!
too bad for pawlenty that im smarter than a 10 year old.
BenSnead, Republican leaders knew very well their actions could result in a downgrade.
The DOW is down because beyond all reality & responsibility, the Republican party held a gun to our heads over raising the debt ceiling - usually one-line on one page. A clean bill. They held the entire global economy to ransom for weeks on end and America lost $millions of dollars. Damage as yet unknown.
By taking an issue that is routinely passed like the debt ceiling (Reagan 18 times , Bush 7) and using it as a cudgel to get concessions you could not normally get, Republicans used blackmail and extortion for the third time this year.
Republicans were warned of a possible downgrade from US AAA rating on grounds of political dysfunction, if they kept playing their game on behalf of the top 2%. They refused to quit and Boehner said he "got 98%" of what he wanted. And here's the fallout.
Like Pawlenty here, it's time for the sons-of-Norquist to apologize. The bulk of Americans as well as leaders in the banking system are calling for Revenues as part of the balanced to get us back on track.
The unnecessary denigration of the US in the global financial markets by Republican congressionals takes the cake.
Witness the spin. The debt ceiling debate had nothing to do with the downgrade aside from the fact that the discussion demonstrated our govt is not serious about the consequences of our ever growing debt. It has been bantered about for a couple of years that the concern over our debt would result in a downgrade. If you bother to read the analysis it emphasizes the debt, not the ceiling or even the politics surrounding the debate.
Our debt is huge. It will grow 1 trillion (or more) per year over the next decade if not seriously addressed (already on autopilot). That means a debt of around 25 trillion. I wonder what the servicing of that debt will be? How many "social" programs could be financed?
"sons of Norquist". Liberal truism #6:
They will always blame someone or something else.
Doug,
About debt: President Bush spent $1.4Trillion on unpaid-for wars and $3Trillion on unpaid-for tax cuts for the wealthy, for starters. Reagan tripled the debt and raised the debt ceiling 18 times. President Bush doubled the debt and raised the ceiling 7 times.
Raising the ceiling pays for the past debts rung up by previous presidents, and not for new spending.
By fall of 2008 US economy had tanked and TARP was signed to stop the Banks collapsing. By the time Obama came in, we'd lost almost 8 million jobs and dropping down to minus 8% (-8%) GDP.
Standard & Poor might have been OK with keeping the Triple A:
1. Had there been an efficient one-page, one-line bill raising the debt ceiling as under Reagan & Bush. Instead of the months of posturing and gridlock from the Right. Even in the last week of negotiations, Boehner walked away from a $4Trillion deal.
2. Had there been REVENUES in the plan to reduce the deficit.
About Norquist: 95% of all Republican congressionals have signed a pledge with Norquist refusing to allow any revenues ever.
Any serious plan to reduce the deficit must include revenues from the top 2%. And by now 80% of Americans have figured that out. But GOP ignored us all. They chose to play to the brink of brinkmanship with our economy and the global economy. They did this in order to protect the wealthy, now earning more than ever in history while paying 25% less in taxes than they did in the mid-90's.
No question, Norquist-eans hurt Americans & damaged US confidence with their extreme anti-tax position. Choosing Norquist over oath of office is not excusable or viable.
At GOPisextinct: Scary, isn't it? And everyone is convinced that the Republicans are so much better qualified than Obama because they're telling the voting public what they want to hear (or are providing confirmation of what the public DIDN'T want to hear).
Is Pawlenty trying for the "most outrageous and silly comment" award today or what?
Timid Timmy must of stocked up at cliche's; R US...
Citing a 10 year old? That seems kinda "childish", no?
[Minnesotans try to explain why Pawlenty's bid hasn't taken off]
Ummm...uhhhhh....Tim...Timmy...TIMMY...!

When will the straw poll be done so we can whittle down the pack to: Romney, and um, um, um,
Still trying to think of someone, anyone who isn't batxxxxt crazy.
PASS
Still thinking, anyone, anyone .....
Bueller......Bueller......
After overcoming my initial surprise that he actually said something like this about the President of the United States, the first thing that occurred to me is that most presidents get FOUR years in office.
And I suspect that Pawlenty would probably have said the same thing after the first five minutes.
But that doesn't make it so. A year is a long time in politics.
Oh, no ... you don't mean to say that Pawlenty ... like Rick Perry ... is actually a ... actually a ...
KEYNESIAN??
LoLoL What a surprise.
That's probably why he needed federal stimulus money to cover up the deficit HE created.
Anna Molly..
Market up over 60 points.
Called it.
...and you doubted me this morning.
They don't pay me $22,500 a year for nothing.
Stick a knife in Pawlenty. He's done.
LoL Ira -- look back a couple of threads.
I already appointed you my guru. And if it all works out, I'll pay you more than that.
Deal?
p.s. I didn't doubt you. I doubted myself.
Anna Molly..
Deal...but we're talking Greek again, right?
Gonna hold you to that.
...and Kalispera...and a great weekend.
I'll hire him too Anna. I pay Union scale.
Pick out some good ones for me Ira.
GOPisextinct..
If only I could I'd be retired on a private Greek isle.
Great weekend.
Absolutely, Ira.
χαμόγελο
(According to my trusty translator, that says "smile.")
LoL Greg -- I guess I can't top that.
Maybe between the two of us, we'll give Ira his wish.
Both of you have a great weekend.
Dear dirp:
I no longer owe you a keyboard.
Your hilarious pop culture reference absolves me of any compensatory obligation.
Signed,
your buddy, GOPisextinct

Hey, I hear lotsa' good values are to be had in Greece nowadays. WOW! Was that a Spanky-esque comment or what?
I myself am pulling for Costa Rica, cept' I gotta' learn Spanish.
You, Feisty, Forrest Grump and Anna Molly can all come down, and we can go fishing.
Feisty can put the worms on the hook. I hate that part.
Are you implying, dare I say it, that I'm a 'hooker'? lol ;P
Mo Maam,....not to a self-defense aficionado,.....and for once I will exercise the better part of valor, and not go for the cheap laughs line.
I sheepishly withdraw with a$$ intact.
Just messing with you GOP - I knew there was a joke in there somewhere! ;o)
Greece would be a good bet. I hear Standard and Poor's is rating their debt higher than the US.
A 10 year old could do a better job than our President-in-Training! TPaw is correct..... the experiment failed time to move on....
Here's another 'tired old cliche': turn out the lights America, the party's over!
Thank you mr president! your efforts have had some effect! We have now officially entered the Era of Austerity and may soon be taking a back seat to China!
Heard some interesting facts on Obama today concerning how far underwater he was before he became a senator and the "seed" money and Moochelle's "invaluable" hospital job appeared like "Jack's magic beans".
Some of you Obots should peel yourselves from that "think tank" thinkprogress.com and do a little research on it.
TPaw like most Repubs continue to lie regarding Obama and taxes! Obama and taxes......the $787 billion dollar stimulus was over 50% tax cuts, the Bush era tax cuts were extended, payroll tax cuts....wtf! The only taxes he advocates are aren't even a tax hike....he advocates letting the tax cuts expire on only the wealthiest of Americans.....those making over $250K per year! How many Iowans are making that much money? Not many!
If Repubs could just speak the truth....I might vote for one.....since I am a registered Repub making $65K-$70K per year I know the truth regarding what pur President wants to do. And I understand that I will not be impacted by this decision.
You cannot expense cut your way to profitability in a business and you definitely cannot cut enough expenses in govt spending to get the budget balanced.....it will take additional revenues whether you are a business or the govt.
This is Econ 101! Wake up my party! Obama is not the person many in our party make him out to be. He is one of us. I truly believe if Ronald Reagan was alive he would be on TV telling most Repubs to shut up and help this man get us to where we need to go!
Amen. As a life long Republican I just cannot believe what has happened to the party. Do people really think that the public is that dump to believe all the half truths and out right lies the party has been telling. This is why if you thought the 2010 elections were a blood bath, wait until 2012. The Republican party is dead in the water. If they think people will forget that they have done nothing but destroy their lives they are sadly mistaken.
President Obama and the Democrats will regain control of Washington and this time there will be no need for any Republican to even show up. They will have the super majority without any independent members. With the senate minority leader already saying that he will appoint someone that will not agree to raising tax on the wealth and corporation, this plan is already dead before it gets started.
As much as I hate the tax and spend Democrats, they are the only one that really seem to be listening to the people. The teaparty is done for. Rand Paul will be just like his old man Ron Paul, a bunch of hot air and nothing else for his remaining time in the Senate.
You Ret MSgt have my respect. Grimey is another admitted republican who I enjoy reading.
Our country needs real conservatives not the born-again tea party type. We need both ends to be able to compromise in the middle and do what's right for all Americans. We fight and then compromise like we have done for 200 years. It was comforting in a way to know a compromise was coming. Nobody got everything they wanted but we mananged to get along.
Thanks for renewing my faith. Sometime it feels like the body snatchers came and took over all republicans and not just the republican tea party.
I'm a life long democrat, but I do think we need a RATIONAL Republican party. The current players in the Republican party are just crazies and idiots and Tea Party panderers. This reduction in credit rating is solely the fault of the Republicans. I don't know HOW MANY times Obama and his administration warned them of stalling until the last second. Then towards the end the administration was saying it was already too late to avoid this. But NOOOOO, they had to wait until the very last day to agree to a bill. If they had taken Obama up on his 4 trillion dollar offer this credit rating reduction would never have happened.
Heyyy........ Is this Pawlenty guy real?
Is that really Palin, in a guy get-up? He sure sounds like her. Dishes with 10-year olds, to boot.
Neat.
You Betcha'
DBO, In fact, Pawlenty reaaly thought he would get the VP position with MCain. All the press in MN , which was hosting the GOP convention had him on the short list. He was making all kind of nice "no comment"when asked.
I think he might also be positioning himself for the #2 spot again. It is his only hope...
Pawlenty channeling Lou Reed?
I think I know what Lou would say...
He tell the kid to, "take a walk of the wild side"...........
Can Pawlenty say "Shut Down? This comment from the $6 Billion Man who left MN stuck with a $6 Billion Dollar Debt? many Fellow Minnesotians describe his handling of MN accounting as a "Ponzi Scheme"
Here's what they say
" If you want Accounting Tricks to balance the budget fellow Minnesotians describe his balancing the book as a “Ponzi-like scheme” in Minnesota, employing short-term budget band-aids that put the state's books in technical balance.
Among them: accelerating tax payments, delaying spending, using $1billion from the tobacco settlement, relying on federal stimulus dollars and borrowing more than $1.9 billion from K-12 schools, much of which must be paid back."
“Rukavina likens Pawlenty's budget shifts to "Enron accounting practices," with
the upshot being a lower bond rating from Moody's Investors Service and other
credit-rating agencies.”
This guy has absolutely no shame!
Thanks for yanking the curtain back Charolet!
Pawlendty did not care about 10 year olds when he balanced the state budget by delaying payments to school districts. In turn property taxes soared while housing values tanked.
This guy is an idiot
Now now .. he's a Republican first!
Stick a knife in Pawlenty. He's done.
Nope, not gonna happen
This guy really is an idiot. Obama hasn't raised taxes once. If the choice was a republican or a ten year old kid then I'd probably rather have the ten year old as president. I always try to vote for the smarter guy when I get the chance.
How bout' if the choice was between a republican and a ham sandwich?
Oh, I love ham sandwiches.
But I don't like the GOP
Pawlenty, makes me phyically sick
I look at him my reflux starts up and then I get the @!$%#.
He has the opposite effect on me ... my bowels start gurgling and I have ti run to the ivory throne!
PAWLENTY is a real @!$%# disturber!
Alternative angle: Tim Pawlenty shouldn't take economic strategy from 10 year olds.
This is going to be hilarious, Pawlenty? Perry? Whomever the GOP runs at this point, They ALL have hugh deficits they created in their own States,,,,,,,,,,,,,Their summing up Perry like the Republican version of GOD and he has driven Texas into a $27 BILLION 2 year deficit, LOL
Remember Taxed Enough Already??? As in the "TEA" Party??? Which actually had to drop their real name because,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Obama hasn't raised ANY taxes ;)
Why didn't he (and the rest of the GOP) just tell the kid (and everyone else) that President Obama has not raised taxes (on anyone) since being in office. I guess the truth eludes the neocons/teabaggers.
De20r2010 ... the Republicans have decided to make the economy and the debt, issues in the upcoming election. They forget that Reagan, Bush, and W did far more damage to the US economy and Obama is doing everything that he can to fix the mess that he inherited. The Republicans will twist anything they can with half truths and lies to show Obama is a bad boy. AND many of the Amurican voters will fall victim to it. They did in 2010! Win win win .. that's what the Repubs are focusing on, not the actual issues and solutions.
"Stick a fork in him, he's done." Never heard that one before (Ha).
Hey Tim...why don't you "Put an egg in your shoe and beat it" (You pathetic little jerk)!
Sad part is, they don't even want him in Minnesota and DC wouldn't own him! You're done, "Timmy!"
TPAW is still try to earn a seat at the "grown up table" how would he know what was "done?" Mommie is still cutting his meat for him! TPAW, eat your peas and maybe ...if you clean your plate you can have a slice of pie.
GA Girl ... you are the problem! Maybe you think that the disrespect that you show in your post is cute, funny, effective at making your point, but the opposite is true. Just like Pawlenty, and those like him, needs to be put back in the box until they are mature and show respect for the process and each other. That's why Washington had so much trouble over the debt ceiling. 84 newbies had to show how cute they were instead of just getting the job done.
Obama is Jimmy Carter on steroids. Clinton at least was smart enough to get out of the way of the private sector economy. Obama wants to bury it with regulation and taxation. All you libs complain about no tax increases in the budget deal, but Obama is the one that left the Bush cuts in place and gave additional tax cuts to the masses. You bitch about the wealthy not being taxed more. They are sitting on masses of money right now instead of creating jobs, because of Obama's anti business policies. Do you think taxing them more is going to cause them to hire more people? I suspect some of you libs would like to see Obama bring down the free market system by taking over more corporations. His policies have already begun that process in earnest. S&P downgraded us today for first time in history. The buck stops with Obama, but he sure isn't any Truman.
"Obama is Jimmy Carter on steroids."
Except for the fact that Carter had a candidate running against him who had some answers. This bunch of right wing lunatics in the republican field don't. All they have is slogans and not very good slogans at that.
Obama is done, any president of any party would lose with the state of the economy.People vote with their pocketbook.
"Obama is done, any president of any party would lose with the state of the economy.People vote with their pocketbook."
I would normally agree with that statement but the current Republican field is so bad, so far out in right, right field, so very radical and let's not forget -- it was a Republican president and a Republican Congress who caused this mess in the first place. And -- the only answers Republicans are offering are more tax cuts ad more deregulation -- again -- the same policies that caused this mess. I think most voters know that voting for Republicans to fix this economy would be like smoking to cure lung cancer.
ron .. I think we need to wait for the election before we go around proclaiming that someone is done, or has already lost the next election. My crystal doesn't see that far ahead and I'm sure that yours doesn't either!
Pawlenty will not survive the primaries! He should wish in one hand and dump the other and see which will fill first. What this man needs is a rectal encephalectomty so he can see the real world.
Pawlenty of crap out of this idiot's mouth.
Very classy thing to say TPaw. Last time I checked your numbers were not exactly through the roof.
Glass houses.
I think Pawlenty is confusing himself with the President. The one that's "done" is Pawlenty and in reality --- he didn't even make it to the over. He was tossed in the trash before the oven was even heated up.
Pawlenty------------We've had PAWLENTY of this male version of MICHELE BACHMAN
