Bachmann ad: 'Someone needs to say no'

The Bachmann campaign released its third television ad today. It will air statewide in Iowa. In the ad, entitled “Believe It,” Bachmann stresses her votes against raising the debt ceiling.

The ad is set on a street corner in Ames. Bachmann addresses the camera as music plays.   “Back in Washington,” Bachmann begins, “politicians are looting the Treasury and bankrupting our nation. And Barack Obama has driven our economy into a ditch.”

Bachmann says she voted against raising the debt ceiling because “someone needs to say ‘no.’ ”

The ad ends with a plea to come to Ames for the straw poll.

Full text of ad below.

Full text of the ad: “Back in Washington, politicians are looting the treasury and bankrupting our nation. And Barack Obama has driven our economy into a ditch. Someone needs to say ‘no.’ I voted against raising the debt limit because it’s time to balance the budget and pay down the debt. I mean it… and you can believe it. I’m Michele Bachmann, candidate for President, and I approve this message. Won’t you join me here in Ames for the Straw Poll, and let’s send a message to Washington.”

Bat sh!t crazy Bachmann has never met a 'gubment' handout - she could JUST SAY NO too!

As Bev details above! ;o)

Then there's this:

Given Michelle & Marcus Bachmann’s proclivity for wearing their anti-gay views on their sleeves,
while bilking Medicaid under the premise that they can ‘pray the gay’ away!

The first was TJ. Then came Samantha, Aaron, Nick, and Kevin. Over the past two years, a total of nine teenagers have committed suicide in a Minnesota school district represented by Rep. Michele Bachmann—the latest in May—and many more students have attempted to take their lives. State public health officials have labeled the area a "suicide contagion area" because of the unusually high
death rate.

Now you do the basic math here and this equals almost 5 teenagers per year in her district.
As an elected official WHAT is she doing to address this epidemic? Besides absolutely NOTHING!

Some of the victims were gay, or perceived to be by their classmates, and many were reportedly bullied. And the anti-gay activists who are some of the congresswoman's closest allies stand accused of blocking an effective response to the crisis and fostering a climate of intolerance that allowed bullying to flourish. Bachmann, meanwhile, has been uncharacteristically silent on the tragic deaths that have roiled her district—including the high school that she attended.

If this isn’t outrageous enough:

Bachmann, who began her political career as an education activist, has described gay rights as an
"earthquake issue," and she and her allies have made public schools the front lines of their fight against the "homosexual agenda." They have opposed efforts in the state to promote tolerance for gays and lesbians in the classroom, seeing such initiatives as a way of allowing gays to recruit
impressionable youths into an unhealthy and un-Christian lifestyle.

I don’t care which side of the aisle you sit on – kids are dying while Michele & Marcuscontinue DENYING!

Bev, Fesity - really good posts.

Bachmann's ad does something else: It demonstrates that she is utterly and completely ignorant of the very issue.

As has been discussed here in recent days ad nauseam, the debt ceiling vote itself was not to authorize new spending. Saying "no" only meant that Bachmann repudiated existing fiscal obligations of the United States. And whether any of us liked the result of the bill (I most assuredly do not), it did in fact contain mechanisms to reduce spending now and in the future, thereby also lowering the need of the U.S. to borrow to meet Congressionally-approved expenditures.

Bachmann is intentionally playing on the confusion and ignorance of the public. She is intentionally distorting the facts to prey upon emotions. Bachmann indeed not only displays her own ignorance, but her complete lack of integrity.

The economy being run into a ditch by Republicans is what helped President Obama get elected, but you can't expect a wacko with migraines to remember anything.

Bachman claims "President Obama has driven this economy into a ditch." Of course what she doesn't mention is that the economy was already in a ditch when President-elect Obama came into office. Since then, the Republicans drained the gas out of the bus, allowed the Tea party to set it on fire and held a gun to the drivers head so he can't get it out of the ditch. Then, the Republicans rested and and then they celebrated. After all they clearly will be remembered by future generations and historians as the ones who made this recession and kept it there for a long time. They are the rightful owners of this mess.

Hi Bev--We all are trying to scrape Bachman off our shoes. What a mess!

Obama is responsible for Obama, period. Did Obama want the job? Did Obama campaign for the job? Did Obama say he could do the job? Did Obama fight tooth and nail for the job? Did Obama get elected to do the job? Did Obama take the oath to do the job?

Why do all you liberals make up excuses for him? The moment he took the oath of office, the job was his. No matter what the conditions were, he accepted responsibility for all of them. He knew what was out there. He fully accepted everything that came with the job and now you bozo's keep on saying that he was handed a raw deal. Not so fast.... he could have refused the position. He could have said... the job's way to hard for me to handle... He could have said that Bush left me in a position where I can't accept this job because the cards are stacked against me. Did Obama do that? Nope. Obama accepted it and now 2 1/2 years later, the liberals are STILL making excuses.

That's all they are libbies... excuses. Why won't you just lay it down and admit that your guy isn't up to the task? Obama had it all! He had rampant support in Congress... he could have chosen to turn this economy around and make us all rich. He could have done something about unemployment. He could have done something about the economy... but he didn't and you are still making excuses for him.

Sure but none of this changes the fact that he was left with a @!$%#ty economy and high unemployment by the previous administration. And when Obama leaves office in Jan/2013, he'll leave a much worse economy to the next President who ever he/she may be. But I certainly hope that new President doesn't whine and complain as much as Obama does. Rather, that new President needs to get down to the business of solving the countries problems, and unlike Obama not constantly make excuses why they can't.

Bryan - tell me you aren't an idiot. When you accept a job, you accept it hook line and sinker. It's your responsibility to do the best job you can. You don't blame the previous guy, ever! You bear down, take the bull by the horns and forge ahead.

How many times has Obama gotten on the air and told the American people that it's all Bush's fault? How many times has he played for sympathy in his quest for popularity? All this guy does is blame everyone else. He hasn't taken one shread of responsibility for anything. Not long ago, he was asked about the stimulus package... he laughed when he said I guess there weren't as many shovel ready jobs as I thought. What an idiot!

And you libbies keep on rolling along... kissing up to the great blamer. ::oh, Obama is doing such a good job... he's the only adult in the room... he's my hero::

The guy couldn't lead if he were taught how. Great leaders blame no one! They take responsibility, do their level best to make improvements and in the end, the proof is in the pudding. Look around libbies... things aren't any better... in fact they are WORSE! Stop making excuses for Obama. When he takes leadership, I might even support him, but HE has to do it first. So far, he's been a dismal disappointment.

Obama wanted the job, said he could do it and won the election. So far he's failed at just about everything he's put his hands to. We are not better off today than we were in 08.

          Bryan,

Sure but none of this changes the fact that he was left with a @!$%#ty economy

You don't understand that the economy was precipitated by the collpase of the housing market, that Dems are at the very least 50% reponsible - Obama was after all the recipient of more Fannie and Freddie money than anyone except Dodd, another dem (Kerry another dem rounded out the top 3).

high unemployment by the previous administration

You're not aware that unemployment was at 7.2 % when Obama took office before climbing to 10.1%?

You don't realize that an average of 67,000+ jobs where being added between January 2009 and April 2009 with 228,000 being added in April alone, that the next month after Obama passed Obamacare - jobs dropped from 228,000 in April 2009 to 48,000 in May 2009 and have averaged 1/10th the average of Obama of Obama's first four months!

That is why we keep "reminding" you that this is not Obama's economy or recession.

You are not aware that we have been in a recovery for over 2 years, not a recession. You know the difference right?

The recession officially ended in June 2009, before Obama even really tried to address the economy (ObamaCare - see above for how that helped.)

It belongs to some other a-hole, you know

Nope even despite all of the above - over 2 1/2 years and 4 trillion, the biggest Keynesian spending experiment in the history of the world - pretty much buys you the economy for anyone ...... except of course, the most devoted leg humpers.

All this argument about whose debt it is. Haven't you seen the New Spending Chart that was published in the New York Times on July 23? It shows how the new spending by GW Bush from 2000 to 2009 compares to the new spending and projected new spending for Obama from 2009 to 2017. The article is called How the Debt Got This Big, and it shows that Bush added $5.07 trillion in new spending compared to Obama's $1.44 trillion. Obama's spending is not as you are portraying it.

The most amazing phenomenon is that Liberals think that adding to the deficit will have a positive effect on their lives. When the govt. money runs out, so do the hand-outs. So, I wonder what the Liberals are going to tell their kids and grand kids........" Honey, you see, in my day we fought hard for the govt. to SPEND way more than what the country could afford. Now, there's nothing left for you. So, GET A JOB and pay taxes just like the Republicans have done for generations."

You are describing a leadership position? If you can't even tell the difference in your scenerio than the leadership position that Obama campaigned for are apples and oranges, there is something wrong with you.

Let's dissect your example. Three guys in front of you on the line... HOW does that equate to Obama? He's the only one on the line. There aren't 3 guys in front of him... President is a lone position and I dare say that Bush was off the line after Obama was elected. Since the libbie bozo's blame Bush, your example doesn't even make sense.

In the example you describe, if it were me, the men not doing their jobs would have learned a lesson not to screw with me. I wouldn't do it on the line... I'd wait until after work and choose my time. There wouldn't be any witnesses either. Sorry if that disturbs your politically correct methods, but I'd bet they'd be on the line the next day feeding me what they are supposed to. A leader doesn't cry to the boss. A leader takes charge of the situation and does what's needed to get the job accomplished even if it involves a tire iron. So there smart guy I answered your lame example. Yes DBO, I grew up in the inner city. I do not have a problem taking care of myself by ensuring others do what they are supposed to do when it effects me. You CAN'T say that about the whiner Obama.

What YOU are doing is making excuses. Particuarly since Obama hasn't done anything positive to help this economy, he hasn't grown jobs, he hasn't presented a business friendly atmosphere or anything of the sort. All he's done is blame everyone under the sun but himself. Right from the very beginning he wanted Cap and Trade... more business taxes... more uncertainty... more government regulations... anything and everything to get him closer to feeling like and acting like Hugo Chavez... of which Obama is sorely jealous of. Obama has been following Chavez's model since he was installed as president. Obama was behind one of the largest government take overs of private enterprise in this country's history. Liberals cheered him on... I stood and gasped.

Since that time, unemployment has been declining and the number of jobs has been increasing. While not yet enough to erode the unemployment rate to "normal levels", the unemployment rates have been reduced.

                    Bachman is wrong.

President Bush drove the economy into a ditch.

President Obama took the economy out of the ditch, and drove at 80 MPH directly off a cliff.

Don't wipe down the screens yet. Here's Bachmann's version of the history of birth control:

In days of olde, when Knights were bold,

                      And rubbers weren't invented-

they tied their socks around their c*cks,

                      and babies were prevented.

As only God would approve, of course....

I'll say NO--NO to Michele Bachmann and any clueless candidate like her. There are smart republican women, where are they?

On my wish list would be Hillary Clinton one on one with Michelle Bachmann and then Sarah Palin--Clinton would wipe the floor with them. I say Hillary because if a male politician says what needs saying, they are immediately criticized and called sexist.

As a matter of fact I was at lunch- playing ball at the Y. And man, it's hot around here. Nearly 80 degrees.

Oh and Drive By - you get a load of those Volt sales figures? Oh my goodness, only 2700 sold so far. Just terrible. Whoever designed and decided to market that turd needs to be canned. Can they can GM/gov. employees?

So gang: the WHite House website says that the USA spent $28 Trillion in the last 10 years. And brothers, we are in some bad shape.

But see, it also says we sill spend $43 trillion [down from $46 T cause of the debt ceiling deal] over the next 10 years.

I would just love to hear what you all think about how totally awesome we will be doing after the next 10 years.

Spanky: it is my earnest belief that this country will be doing better in the next ten years, despite (or better yet to spite) the actions of the current majority in the House and particularly the flea Party which is biting the tail wagging that dog.

Within the next ten years, my children will be graduating from college and high school and beginning their journey of life as adults. As young people, they have already learned to find out as much information as possible, then form an opinion. They ususally find out that "dad is right" on many things. Part of being adults means that they will vote. They have each informed me that, contrary to what many people think of young voters, they may not vote for one party, across the board. They want to find out what each candidate stands for and then vote for the best person.

Our government may spend twice as much money in the next 10 years as in the previous 10 years. I hope it is not spent on guns, bullets, missiles, replacement arms, titanium legs, or mechanical hands needed for wars. I hope we do meet the goal of setting up an exploratory post on Mars.

Having our children become informed, voting adults. Ending useless wars. Continuing our exploration of our solar system. That's some of the totally awesome things I think we'll be doing.

How about you Spanky. Do you have any hope in your future ?

dirp01 - I think the country will do better, but no way revenues will ever go up to account for such a huge jump in expenditures.

So I guess we are doomed.

It is my earnest hope that through wise investment in the future of our country, limited reductions in wasteful spending (useless, DoD war spending comes to mind,) elimination of tax preference items for companies making record profits, adjustment of the tax code to increase revenues and most importantly

doing whatever is needed to increase the GDP of the country, the revenues generated far exceed the expenditures for the next 30 years. We don't need to eliminate the debt, but we do need to get it under control. We can't begin to control the debt until we eliminate the deficits. That takes both sides of the budget equation. Until the Congress realizes that and acts accordingly, it will never be taken seriously. THAT is why the ratings houses are threatening to downgrade our credit rating.

Amazing thing is, tax rates were much higher, government spending lower, people were working.

I admit, I do miss the 90's. I mean it, the economy was booming, we were actually starting to PAY OFF the debt, you could get on an airplane and go anywhere in the world without being molested first. We may have been involved in a couple of wars, but only limited, no occupations.

Taxes were at a reasonable rate, people were working.

As to them counting, Nope, no conviction... no harm, no foul. Maybe waste a few million investigating, but hey, gotta keep the lawyers busy.

First, someone needs to tell Wachjobmann that raising the debt limit has nothing to do wtih paying down the debt or the defecit...it has to do with making sure we can currently pay our past debts. If we went into default as she wanted, interest rates on the debt servicing part of our budget would skyrocket thereby increasing the defecit without catastrophic cuts and tax raises.

Second, I'm sick to death of people blaming this president for the current 14.5 trillion national debt. Obama signed spending bills amounts to but a fraction of that amount! Most of the debt during his presidency is from all the reoccurring unfunded crap thrown our way by the prior administration, i.e., unfunded wars and tax cuts, unfunded Medicare Part D, etc....

Third, someone needs to call this hypocrit for what she is...a gov't money sucking whore! Yep! She's been on the gov't teet for most of her adult life.

she is not my candidate...but she was a successful tax attorney, raised her family and 23 foster kids, and is in Congress doing her best ; so your lame personal attack reflects on you, not on her.

"...but she was a successful tax attorney..."

Yes she was! Collecting from the citizens FOR the gubmint! Do you suppose she calls Norquist each day, and reminds him of that little fact?

And her willingness to let America default to defend the tax cuts for the richest in America reflects on her.

She just pretends to care about the debt while defending unfunded wars and unfunded tax cuts. She has already promised not to cut and run on them poor Afghan women. She thinks we need to keep in place the two major reasons why we are where we are today in debt. (At this point you have to question sanity)

Makes you wish she did have a direct line to God, we are going to need someone to save us if any republican gets elected for president and we don't take back the house from the crazies.

having a foster child do a 12 month stint at Bachmatraz is hardly child rearing; but I know Bob numbers must defend her 'honor' at all costs to his sanity and credibility,...

                              oh wait....never mind.

Perhaps you maybe? GreedyBiz? As one owner of a small biz to another...Your response said nothing! I just asked some direct questions, cited a FACT and received an obtuse reply which is typical for conservatives who tend to speak only in hyperbole.

But hey how 'bout the new contract deal? Ben, taking one for the team.

she is the most ill informed person running for President of the United States. But she is interesting when she opens her mouth it keeps things light and funny. I think her husband is in a closet and needs to come out. really think about it, keep bashing the gays to throw off the public. anyway I hope she wins the GOP race

I have really hoped that in my lifetime we would see a woman elected President but surely we can do better as a nation than Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin.

Come on Steeler, get on the train. There is little hope for Obama.

Especially if he's going to replace Geinter with Corzine. Really, all he can do is recruit Goldman re-treads? And is not Goldman part of the evil corporate money grubbying empire you all hate?

He really does make it hard to love him, doesn't he Steeler?

Has to make you wonder why the conservatives are so concerned about who we run for president.

Think we should go with their suggestions?

The conservative just want to stir up a rowel because the democrats did not elect a bunch of left wing beer partiers to have enough people to vote for Democrats.

I think the Democrats are the new center and the right drank the wrong kind of tea and may be tripping.

Anyone who really thinks Bachmann has any intelligence beyond 3rd grade has so many issues of their own they should just fade away. Someone already pointed out there are GOP women that are far more intelligent than this one, so smart they no better than to run for an office were everyone will hate you just because you have the job and they don't.

My guess is that Bob is old. He sounds like my dad, so I am guessing he is aways hateful and doesn't have a lot of friends. Aquaintances maybe but no real friends.

Why does Bob come on here to read post from people who obviously disgust him?

I wonder of Bachmann knows what she is saying......the current deficit was accumulated by Bush running 2 wars "off the books" for 8 years. It was NOT accumulated by Obama.....it was even Bush, at the end of his term, who brought out the TARP payments. Does Bachmann realize she is voting "NO" to paying off a Republican deficit??? Do Republicans not have to pay their bills?

Republicans are good at making really big bills, but paying them, not so much.

Seriously? Anyone that really cares about the fate of this great country - would dare put Bachman in office.

But the great thing about her is - she will get votes from those who don't know better thereby taken votes aways from any real potential GOP candidate.

I just hope her headaches don't destroy her good looks ...LOL... I mean afterall, any votes she get would be from ignorant, lonely man.

And although there could be many of them - there won't be not enough to put her butt in office.

                                      TRUTH - not CRAP
