More 2012: Mad as hell?

Stu Rothenberg says, yes, there’s anger now at Washington, but it’s not necessarily true that that anger will translate in 15 months to an ousting of incumbents.

“A quartet of House Republicans eyeing Senate runs were amongst the 66 Republicans who voted against the bipartisan compromise to increase the debt limit. GOP Reps. Todd Akin (Mo.), Jason Chaffetz (Utah), Denny Rehberg (Mont.) and Jeff Flake (Ariz.) all broke with their party's leadership and opposed the agreement,” The Hill notes.

INDIANA: Sen. Richard Lugar’s campaign released an internal poll showing him with a 45%-31% lead after a poll last week from the Club for Growth showing him trailing a GOP primary opponent.

NEVADA: “To the very conservative, it’s a bad deal because it doesn’t force the government to adopt a balanced budget mandate via constitutional amendment. That latter category may, or may not, include Nevada’s Senator Dean Heller,” the Las Vegas Sun reports. “For a while, he appeared to be making room for himself to vote against any sort of debt ceiling increase, but his vote to endorse House Speaker John Boehner’s plan over the weekend makes his ultimate move as of yet, uncertain -- and Heller and his spokespeople haven’t been answering entreaties to clarify.” Heller had signaled last month that he wanted a balanced-budget amendment. A week ago, he said, “I do believe it’s a critical date,” he said of today. “But that’s not to say that I’ll vote for any of these plans if they’re not good enough.”

If I learned one thing from this debt ceiling fiasco, it is that today's Democrats are the new conservatives: rational, pragmatic, risk-averse; and "Conservatives" are the new terrorists: destructive, driven by ideology, self-centered and dangerous.

I have been to the left of center my whole life, who knew all along I had conservative values?

What the republicans should have said is lets follow California's example of a healthy economy.

No, you say, well the balance budget was forced into California by republicans and isn't the state a shining example of what the balance budget amendment can do to the entire United States?

Americans First - sarcasm, I assume? The real killer here in California has been the 2/3 majority nonsense that has basically paralyzed Sacramento. That was neither Democrat or Republican, but the result of bad legislation brought on by an out-of-control ballot initiative system we have here. Way too much policy in my great state goes to ballot initiatives - a representative democracy does not function well when legislation is opened up to the popular vote. Sorry, way off topic.......

After a brief thumbs-up period yesterday (yeah team! We made a deal!) the reality set in, reinforced by today's reporting and the realization that the deal reached, though a compromise, is garbage and just postpones the tough decisions. I have not been a fan of the President, but I think he has learned a great deal through all this. Too little too late, or will renewed resolve make him a stronger leader? Time will tell.

Don't hold your breath, Mark. If the debacle that was the Health Care debate didn't teach him that you cannot compromise with the current Republicans, you can only capitulate to them or firmly stand your own ground, what would. It didn't.

He's shown again that he is willing to give away the store in an attempt to show us that he is the reasonable one.

      Rick in savannah,

Obama doesn't know compromise, he only knows how to flip flop in his attempts to create a more positive image of himself. He has shown in the past that he will thrown anyone under the bus in his name. And you are correct, he is the unreasonable one.

By yet the media attempts to continue to spin Barry O as the RockStar President they want him to be. Nothing was accomplished by either side during this crisis - the can was kicked down the road for another day. And the joke is now twelve lawmakers, six from each side, will enjoin on a committee to develope strategies for this continued debt crisis. Right. Partisian politics as usual with nothing of substance to be accomplished. Big government goes on as usual.

By the way NavyBoy, did you receive your disability check over the weekend, you know before the vote and cut-off of funds? It's OK to tell the truth Navy, come on. did you receive your benefit or did Barry O just lie to you about checks? Really Navy, you can man up - or do you want to ' continue to play 'Chicken Little' to spout the party line and stir up the pot?

so Navy, what is the answer? Am I connecting the dots yet?

Hunky, Disability checks aren't sent out till the 3rd of the month. Your obnoxious tone makes you look quite lame. You are a sad, sad person. Obviously one of those rabid blow hards in Congress.

Mark, you are right, the 2/3 majority is the crap that they are trying to push on the entire United States and I just wanted to bring attention to how well it has worked in California.

I am not sure showing a conservative the truth about a belief (Balance budget amendment) and showing how it doesn't work in real life (California) will convince them that it is a bad ideal.

Well burns, I receive a military disability check about the end of the month each month. A disabililty on the 3rd of the month? Haven't a clue about that. Also have no clue as to when SS checks are direct deposited either since I am no where near needing one.

As for being obnoxious, you haven't seen anything yet. And no, I am not a sad, sad person, just one of those nearing the top 8% rank. Live is good! And if you are Barry O - 'it's good to be king.' At least for the next 15 months or so.

Come join the Elephant Party Burns - it is where the action will be.
