..Sounds a lil like the other day with johnny boy !
If President Obama has indeed traded Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid Cuts for Republican Hostage Taking, He can Kiss his Re-election Good-Bye! If He and the Dems have put these paid for Benefits for At Risk and allowed "Theft" of Benefits paid for those guarantees by the American people then Congress is "Above the Law"
This is the United States Of America you cannot "Steal" from another party what is paid for. If true Americans must decide what "Lawfully" can be done to prevent such an action.
Charolet92, you have the power to change things every two years: vote. Get your friends to vote, get as many people as you possibly can to vote. You see, when more people vote, the people most beholden to corporations and the rich tend to lose (thus their push to enact voter ID laws that make it harder for the poor and the aged to vote).
Remember, the next congress can fix the mistakes of this congress, but if you sit back and do not vote to 'punish the Democrats', you only make it possible for people like the Republican/TP Inc. to get into office. Remember who fought to keep those benefits intact and who held the economy hostage to get rid of the things that help the poor, the aged, and the middle class while protecting the 1% richest of those among us.
How did the Republican/TP Inc. party win so many seats? Because only 37% of the eligible voters turned out to vote, and less than 50% of Democratic voters voted in 2010 than voted in 2008.
GOTV!!!!!!!!! It's more important this time around than it has ever been.
These are the current GOP/TP falsehoods:
1) Many GOPers (e.g., Batsh!t Bachmann) claim default won’t be catastrophic. The same things were said about Lehman Brothers, and Lehman Brothers was small compared to the US bond market.
2) The compromise from Teabaggers in the House is simply to raise the debt limit. Doing the most basic “housekeeping” to allow our country to pay it's bills is NOT a compromise -- What a sad joke.
3) The Duck, Dodge and Dismantle amendment to the constitution (CC&B) is the only legislation Teabaggers in the House will accept. Amendments to the constitution are rare, and it's a long and difficult process. Teabaggers have only been elected to the one branch of government, the House, yet believe they can dictate their own agenda to the nation. Though they have not been able to get CC&B through congress, they wanted the legislation to go out to states. Such circumvention in a constitutional democracy is anti-democracy. Threatening to blow up the country if they don't get their way is terrorist treason. They talk about morality, yet want to renege on bills owed for past spending (that includes irresponsible spending under Bush/Cheney).
4) Conservatives are claiming they’ve put forth two bills, when in fact they have passed the same unrealistic bill (CC&B) twice, by a narrow margin, and with no Democratic votes on the second try. They are also claiming the Dems refused to debate these bills. Why would the senate waste time on legislation that would be vetoed by the president if only because these are temporary measures?
5) Republicans, such as McConnell keep attacking the president for lack of leadership. However, congress holds the purse strings, and the House in particular is responsible for initiating legislation. The record abuse of the filibuster is a lack of leadership, Mr. McConnell.
6) Even if checks didn’t go out for programs the Teabaggers don’t like, such as the Dept. of Education, it would only buy about four days past the deadline.
Deficit Hawks warn of cutting spending too much, too fast. Let's hope concessions by Dems don't further damage the economy. Let's hope there is no more concession on the expiration of the Bush tax cuts (at least for the richest 2%), and definitely no cuts to Social Security. And if anything, we should be talking about Medicare for all--not raising the eligibility age.
I noticed MSNBC did a great job of naming names in another article this week showing who the obstructionists are in the House. Keep up the good job. Voters need to know who these representatives are.
One little problem with your rant- it is democratic spin.
And nobody is buying it. Take a look
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_obama_job_approval-1044.html
Yesterday, Obama took his "plan"- which seems to be, blame the republicans- to "the American people" via Twitter.
He lost more than 40,000 followers in one day- and counting.
All the spin in the world can't fix Obama- he's a failure. The only people who don't see that are those remaining in his cult.
True Patriot,
Thank you for providing the state of play for us this fine Sunday morning.
We will see this afternoon what bill comes out of the Senate. It sounds like the debt ceiling will raised until 2013. There will be spending cuts, and some kind of trigger to make sure additonal cuts will be made by this congress. But no new revenue source will be part of this package.
Boehner will need Democrats to help pass the bill in the house, because the teapublicans will not be on board.
NorthstarDFL -- Your further update is sad but true. However, as long as the expiration date for the Bush tax cuts is not extended, there will finally be revenue in 2013 -- but worse than just closing loopholes, as this will be a tax rate hike. In the meantime, if there are only spending cuts and no revenue, that means the bill will be skewed toward the GOP/TP. That Teabaggers refuse to vote for concessions in their direction just proves they are extremists.
no joe -- Just likethe GOP/TP, you are wasting oxygen. YOU rant about President Obama (snore). We are talking about congress and the responsibilities of congress, about which you completely fail to make your case of my Democratic "rant." What did I say that wasn't true? The GOP/TP is even more unpopular than the president, and the GOP/TP presidential candidates are even more "unsatisfactory." Get a grip.
Actually when Reid delayed the vote; he said 'ohh @!$%# - I got nothing but smoke and mirrors, I can't herd my lemmings to vote for this'
