Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Steve Israel appeared on "MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell" reports earlier today, calling Speaker Boehner’s decision to add a balanced-budget amendment vote to his bill a “political” move.
“You know, look, let's not be fooled this balanced-budget term. It is not a balanced budget,” the congressman from New York said.
“They are not interested in balanced budgets,” he continued, referring to House GOP members. “They are interested in one thing and one thing only; making the rich much, much richer and making the middle-class much, much poorer. And that is why you get delay after delay after delay. nd that is why, as the clock runs out, instead of meeting in the middle, they are lurching further and further to the extreme right wing.”
Despite his frustration with some of his colleagues from across the aisle, Israel said he still thinks a bipartisan deal can be reached if both sides meet in the middle.
“Look, you know, I have never been in a situation where everybody agrees on what cannot happen, but one party refuses to agree on what can happen,” he said. “And that's where we are now... I hope that good sense prevails, and that they don't do the political thing -- but they do the right thing by the American people.”

Just when do saner heads prevail?
GO TEA PARTY!
TEAR THE GREEDY FAT CAT ESTABLISHMENT DOWN!
This was exactly what the American people overwhelmingly voted for in Nov '10 as they kicked out Dems in historic numbers - taking out the trash Part 2 of 2 is coming in Nov 2012
The idea of a BBA is tempting. The practicality is somewhat different. A nation cannot run on one. One can start out with that plan...but stuff happens. The best option (see budget of 1998-2000) is to plan for a SURPLUS. That way when stuff happens, you have some money in the bank. When GWB was elected, he promptly pushed for a tax cut. Then 9/11 happened. He told everyone to go on about our business as usual while we enetered 2 wars. Regardless of how one feels about the reasons behind those actions, shouldn't we have raised taxes to cover the cost? Not run them off budget? Not racked up huge debts? Cut the political hyperbole and lets talk pragmatic solutions.
How much could we save by closing 2/3 of the 700+ military bases? Couldn't those GI's help keep our borders more secure here at home? Just a simple idea...bet the budget is full of waste such as this...
All a balanced budget amandment does is say"let's raise taxes" by forcing them not to make more cuts. At some point the need an excuse to say"thec onsitution says we gotta" then throw thir hands and walk away. Trouble is you have to have the states pass it-and that takes years. Even the ERA took years and still failed.
That's the only reason it's bad. It's unrealistic..and it says out loud what people already know..this whole excise is foolish. Mitch Daniels-the Indiana Governor who is smart enough not to run as budget director called the debt limit "a housekeeping mattter" not worth mentioing-akin to taking out the garbage, unappetizing but has to get done.
Lets get rid of the tea party they have done nothing for the America people, They say lets' government but they all are living off the government. They are nothing but lair. The America people need to stop thinking they are going to be in the 1%. You have the republican congressman who did not pay his house note and it went into foreclosure. He does not pay child support. But he is trying to tell the government that they need to get their house in order. I would also like to know who are the 11 democrat who voting with the republican party
Please list the tea party so we can do a back round check on them
Nancy, you are so foolish and uninformed, there is no way anyone can answer your post. Don't believe anything anyone tells you...research it for yourself and just maybe you will have a better understanding of what's going on! The bottomline is: Obama wants to destroy our way of life so he can become dictator of a 'one world government'. Power is everything to him; why do you think he is sending money to all other nations when we are 'broke' and need every cent here to help our economy? In the meantime, my condolences to you Nancy. May the Good Lord have mercy on you!
.
why are the republican in office. The tea party is doing nothing but destroying this country. It is OK for M. Buchanan and her husband to received money from the government but nobody else. They came to Washington stated they they wanting a chance and the goal is to may President Obama a one term President. The congressman Walsh who is the deadbeat dad, his house was went into foreclosure he does not pay child suppose, why isn't that man is jail, why isn't his wages garnish. This congressman Walsh cannot not handle his own bills, so I is he in a position to tell the government they need to get themselves in order.
We need to vote the tea party's out of offices.
Nancy, there are NO 'Tea Party's' in office. There are several Conservatives that were supported by the Tea Party (just the name of the group...no party!) and elected to the House and Senate. Your English is as poor as mine is Nancy, are you a citizen of this country or what? I am thinking maybe you are from Haiti or Mexico...do you have a 'green' card or citizenship papers?
Remember, if you get told the same lie a thousand times, and the truth only once, you probably will believe the Demo lies! As far as I am concerned, what they do today determines who they are tomorrow!
"The fact we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Governments reckless fiscal policies. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better", these are excerpts from a speech given by a then, Senator Barak Obama in 2006 voting AGAINST raising the debt limit in 2006. The Tea Party was born from the anger of the American public when the Democrats forced Healthcare Reform down America's throat, despite overwhelming objections against it. But Democrats despite these objections, used their majority in both Houses and voted it into law, it is called "taxation without representation". There are $900 million dollars in administrative cost in Healtcare Reform alone. You are right for once Mr. President, Americans DO deserve better leadership.
