Bachmann reaffirms opposition to Boehner bill

WASHINGTON, DC -- During a roughly 30-minute speech at the National Press Club, Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann delivered a critique of the size of the federal government, and vowed to oppose any plan that would raise the debt ceiling -- promising she had the "titanium spine" to see her position through.

The speech came as the House was preparing to vote on a hotly debated bill plan designed by Speaker John Boehner, which would raise the debt limit in exchange for key cuts.

Bachmann said she opposes the legislation, but praised Boehner during her speech.

"Even today, as we are here gathered for this luncheon in this august room," Bachmann said, "we do not have a plan from the president. Now again, John Boehner has put forward a plan. I embrace those principles."

Reserving her criticism for President Obama, Bachmann took issue with the language of the  president's primetime address Monday night. "The president called raising the debt limit the 'routine' thing that's done in Washington, DC.  I'm here to say to all of you today that's the problem," Bachmann said.

Calling for a restructuring of the size and reach of the federal government, Bachmann challenged Obama to resolve the debt crisis by paying off the interest on the national debt. "It is non-negotiable that we maintain the full faith and credit of the United States of America," she said.

OMG!! Bachmann is against the Boehner bill! Someone in the party actually "breaks ranks" and disagrees with a policy.

Too bad that Democrats don't have enough integrity and guts to do the same thing when it comes to Pelosi, Reid, and Obama.

Yeah, imagine that, someone in the same party disagreeing with the leadership. Bat Shyt crazy Pelosi used to scare the bee-jezus out of her caucus to vote for what she wanted, probably from buzzing them when riding around on her broom. The Republicans are at least attempting to make it look like they are trying to control spending. The Democrats? They just can't help themselves, it's just spend, spend, spend for the them.

And where exactly did the Boy Wonder Barack disappear to? Leading from behind no doubt, else he's browsing through the "Idiots Guide to Being President" He's obviously still on Chapter 1 and he's very confused by the pictures. Maybe Harry the Dope can help him when he's not busy saying "No!!" to any bill passed by the House.

Federal & State $$ for foster Kids with eating disorders,or

Farm Subsidies for her familys farms!

Shes just another lying POS Republican like Walsh from Illinois owing Child support to the tune of

Da Noid....who "disagreed" during the passing of the largest ripoff of the American TAXPAYER in our history?

If you pay attention EVERY Democratic Senator voted for it, and a few took some bribes to do it. In the House the ONLY Democrats that voted against it were the ones Pelosi told to because they were up for re-election in districts that did NOT want it to pass.

They do Cheryl.

Unfortunately for you their ideology doesn't square with your deficit-and spend republican policy.

We Democrats prefer up-front budgeting, ON the books, and tried to pass PAYGO legislation that repubs stomped on.

You complain about Dems being wieners, but when they show a little backbone a funny thing happens: you complain about that too.

Bachmann doesn't like the Boehner bill? Well I'll have to take another look at it... this could add some credibility!

If you weren't convinced that the right is completely out of control, this should convince you.

I don't care who wins as long as it makes sense.

It makes no sense to make drastic cuts within the next two years... will hurt any recovery.

It makes no sense to continue the tax cuts for those with outstanding cash-flows... its new money to them and were only talking 3%. On a $100,000 project with a healthy ROI of 10% that would only be $300 dollars in "restored" taxes... give me a break.

It makes sense to include estimated or known military spending cuts as part of this spending cut bill. They are real. They count as well as anything else.

It makes sense to look to reasonably modify Social Security to allow for longer lives and a higher ratio of retirees. It's something we should do anyway.

It makes sense to revamp the tax system to eliminate loop-holes and to move to a flat tax.

It makes sense to eliminate the unneeded corporate subsidies... oil, farm or otherwise.

It makes sense to make the tough decisions to give us and the financial communities confidence going forward.

It makes WAY TOO MUCH SENSE to come up with an agreement that allows us and the government to focus on running things for a couple of years instead of facing an immediate round 2 of this same pain.

So Bachmann has an "artificial" spine? Except for the chaos allowing Government to default would bring on every American, including republicans, one thing it would do--prove that the Tea Party ideologically purists are fools stuck on stupid because they know not what they say.

If I recall hearing correctly, Bachmann and a large amount of the tea party in congress, have stated that they will not support raising the debt ceiling under any circumstances. If Boehner wants to get this done, he is going to have to work with the democrats. He definitely doesn't have the support of his own party. Worst speaker of the house that I can remember for a long time. Even Newt was better then this fool. At least he was able to get the job done. But the republican party was asking for it by embracing the radical right.

Instead of another Bat Sh!t Crazy Bachmann story how about some REAL news like IL's very own Joe Walsh (R) being a dead-beat dad?

Joe's into his ex-wife for $137,000 in back child support for his three kids...

This is what's passing for competence these days among the tea baggers:

Walsh starts the video by saying, “President Obama, quit lying. Have you no shame, sir? In three short years, you’ve bankrupted this country.”

“I won’t place one more dollar of debt upon the backs of my kids and grandkids unless we structurally reform the way this town spends money!” Walsh says directly into the camera in his viral video lecturing Obama on the need to get the nation’s finances in order.

I'm sorry but ol' Joe is the LAST person who should be lecturing ANY ONE on getting their finances in order!

So why am I suddenly in favor of the Boehner bill, and is this exactly what they're trying to do?

The news about Walsh was pretty amusing. You can see his holier-than-thou, hypocritical attitude in everything he does.

He will no doubt find some excuse for not paying child support that will put the blame firmly on the mother, and failing that, on the unfairness of the system that forces him to do what he would prefer to do on his own to protect his children from the tyranny of the State.

How in the heck does that work? I thought there were laws about paying child support, I thought people get arrested for that? How could this guy get by with this, when everybody knows he has a job, what he makes, and where he works? This guy truly is a deadbeat dad, he has the means, he just chooses to shirk his obligation to his own children. I wonder if his wife and kids had to use any government provided services to get by?

I thought there were laws about paying child support,

Forrest - his ex-wife has petitioned the court to have his IL drivers license suspended for non-payment.

This is only the tip of the iceberg with this dead-beat scum bag!

He also turned down his Congressional paid for health care (on principle) even though his current wife has a pre-existing condition and requires surgery...

Tune in tomorrow morning - I have MUCH more on this POS!

I don't care about "Joe the Plumber"...Apparently you do.

Was he elected to represent the people of his district? Is he a state Senator? Is he the President of the United States? Does he have ANYTHING to do with raising the debt ceiling, borrowing 4 Trillion dollars in just two years, or 1.2, 1.3, and 1.5 Trillion dollar in deficit spending? Is he a Democrat that hasn't put forth a budget in Congress in OVER two years? Is he lying about "defaulting" on the debt or not being able to pay Social Security checks?

The STUPIDITY of people like "Madame Booth" (I guess she runs a whorehouse) to try to get people to look at some guy that Democrats vilified and demonized for asking a simple question is unbelievable. I don't see you saying anything about Mr. Wu there "Madame" Booth.

I don't see you saying anything about the LIES being put out by Obama on "defaulting" and Social Security checks, or going into a "depression".

Nope, to someone like you, Joe the Plumber's problems should be national "news" (But don't say anything about those deadbeat dads who REFUSE to marry the mother of their children, allowing those mothers to drain this nation for BILLIONS of dollars in "entitlements")

This week, the White House is raising fear with a new talking point. Obama Administration officials are now saying the House Republican plan on the debt and deficit could ruin Christmas by depressing the 2011 holiday buying season. Members of the administration are hinting if House Speaker John Boehner has his way, the next round of debt negotiations could throw into doubt whether or not the United States is going to go into default around Christmas.

What a bunch of crap! We all know what this is about. Obama does not want this to become an issue for the 2012 election.

Great, now he is being transparent.

LoL -- According to Tweety's show, the Walsh excuses are, in no particular order of importance, that the number is just too high, and he's no more in arrears (more than $100,000) than any other ordinary dad.

I hope his kids saved the postage on his Father's Day card. They apparently need the money.

@ CherylILM -- once again you prove you are not qualified to blog here, or anywhere that requires at least average intelligence. The man in question, Joe Walsh -- not Joe the Plumber -- is in fact, a US Congressman who always takes the position that he's the smartest man in the room. He's not only extremely egotistical and narcissistic, he is rude and, based solely on his conduct here, more than a little crude. He has self-righteously set himself up as judge and jury of President Obama and regularly attacks him for being fiscally irresponsible.

Do you know what irony is, Cheryl? Do you know what hypocrisy is? Perhaps you should look those words up, and then come back and apologize to Feisty.

The fact that you would take the position you did on this issue without having ANY idea what you are talking about exposes you completely. In fact, it shows that you and Joe Walsh have a lot in common.

By the way, a "state Senator" has nothing to do with the current federal budget crisis. One more little boo-boo that shows how little you know.

The ultimate irony is, of course, that Joe Walsh is, in fact, a deadbeat dad, albeit a divorced one. He doesn't even attempt to deny it. His lame excuses are listed above. Without question he qualifies as one of those dads who "[allows] those mothers to drain this nation for BILLIONS of dollars in "entitlements"" that you profess to know so much about.

James, this is serious, but... (remember there's always a but...) The government brings an average of $229 Billion each month. The payment on the debt service is $26 Billion. That leaves a remaining amount of $203 Billion for use to pay Social Security, medicare, the military paychecks, government employees and whatever money it takes for various and sundry things like supplies, paper, etc. There might not be enough left over to fuel up Air Force One.

Seriously, the debt and people need to be paid first... in all cases. If there is in fact, not enough, the first to be cut would be unnecessary government services and that includes those who work in those unnecessary jobs. National parks would be shut down, no more visits to the white house or the lincoln memorial. There would be a systematic shutdown of each government service based on the rank of need. No matter how you look at it, politically speaking it doesn't fair well for the politicians in Washington as people get laid off and the general population loses their benefits.

That's right Forrest. You are going to be in A - squared soon if you are not there already.

If you are in to natural cuisine you should try out Seva in Ann Arbor.

Good thing about A-squared: not much in the way of righties in that town. They know enough to keep a low profile. Have fun. Safe trip.

Forrest, you are a bright and shining star in a night of darkness. How about that for prose? Seriously, you are a delight, your humor is a blessing. Glad you're back.

You always have a home here whether on the road or not. College towns are always interesting, very lively, you find the neatest restaurants tucked into funky places and often they have very good food at a reasonable price. Peace and safe travels.

Gee Forrest, you have a little following here... I do have to admit you hang out with a much better class of people in the evenings. Even some of us conservatives enjoy what you have to say. We may not agree on all issues, but at least it's fun. Personally, I've enjoyed our discussions.

If a child's laughter is music to a mothers ears then the reverse is also true, if I could hear my Gingerbread Mama laugh it would be music to my ears. My own mother passed years ago, I could make her laugh, sometimes I could make her belly laugh, I miss that, thank you for your comment.

Forrest - That's what makes it so enjoyable discussing things with you. Even though some of our personal perspectives differ, we have the ability to see through any ideological differential (not to be confused with the lower gear case in the back of a vehicle). Unlike other posters who can't help themselves with slinging verbal insults, it never comes to that.

You really ticked me off about your Bachman remark... you failed to preface it with the double colon action symbol. For example ::in a high squeeky voice:: See, if you do that, you can imagine the words coming out in a high squeeky voice thereby adding depth to the routine. Adds a few notches on the laughometer.

This is why I love this Bachmann woman. She is wise beyond her years. She has her fingers on the pulse of real America and refuses to compromise. Our people have been ruling in this country from its birth to the mid fifties. That was when communist trouble makers came and caused our nation to divide.

When I was a little boy, we did not have hippes and hostile colored people with leftist views demanding socialism. We were hungry to kill those commie bastards. The United States was feared the world over. The only people who dared to mess with us was the Soviets and Red China. Now Obama is a friend to the Soviet Union and we are in deep debt to Red China; clear up to our eyeballs. This is because of entittlement spending on things like welfare, education, the environment, the arts, and the murder of innocent babies who were never born. The liberals made real Americans feel guilty by playing the race card. When I was a kid there was no such thing as racism. Everybody knew what they were and who they were. We stayed in our places and everyone was happy.

Colored people were happy. Since civil rights, they have never been happy. They did not complain back then. Nobody was angry back then. Gays and homosexuals did not roam our streets looking for young victims. If Mary's daughter got pregnant, she was sent off to live with a relative. We did not force her to murder her baby.

People loved the flag. They saluted Old Glory and sang patriotic tunes. That was the popular music. People weren't beating on drums like they do in clubs, or back in Africa, when they went to church. The church was a sacred place. The pastors did not have sex with the parishioners. As a matter of fact, I don't even think our pastor had sex with his wife. He reminded me of Bachmann's husband. He was just kind and thoughful.

We loved our country and slowly they, the leftists and socialists, took it away. Now it is our time to take it back. It does not matter if we default so long as Obama becomes a one term president. This is what Sean Hannity says every day on his radio show. Michele Bachmann loves America and our standards. We all should support her. She is brilliant. This is why the Tea Party loves her. Obama will do America in. Bachmann will do America right. We will get America back. We will get back to the good old days. God bless America. Let not your hear be troubled.

It's not the President's job to formulate a plan(Bill). That power belongs to Congress. The President has clearly laid out what he would like to see- a balanced plan that increases revenue and decreases spending and he has been quite specific . Ms. Bachman and other critics need a tutorial in Constitutional separation of powers and responsibilities.

On another note, does anyone know if the Bachmans accepted monthly government stipends for their many foster children? Did they also get a clothing allowance and were the kids on medicaid to cover their medical and dental expenses? No amount of money compensates for the dedication of foster parents to these childen and unless you take in many at one time you are usually operationg at a deficit. But if Bachman's cuts go through what will happen to the medicare payments that insure the health of these children especially the medically needy?

Well, obviously, she already got hers, so screw the rest of us.

And they all thought we were joking about that. Unfortunately the t-nut attitude of, "I got mine, so heck with the rest of you." is true, as demonstrated.

On a more somber note, my wife and I have a friend whose mother saw her Uncle hanging,..... lynched from a tree as she walked home from school. Imagine the trauma of that sight! This woman is not old; early 60's.

This was in the 1950's,....in AMERICA!

The man was reportedly hanged because he would not buy the seeds that white farm agents tried to force on him at extortionate prices. He had his own seed you see,.......wisely planned ahead. He just didn't plan on anyone being that morally bankrupt to kill someone.

It starts with racial jokes, political incorrectness, and if those insults are tolerated, the abuse graduates and escalates to someone hanging from a tree.

Just in case you righties are wondering why political correctness is a thing with us.

When I was 17 years old I was visiting in Charlotte NC, I was walking down the sidewalk and an old black man (I was 17 so he may not have been very old) was walking towards me from the opposite direction, when we were about 20 feet apart he stepped off the sidewalk and stood in the street until I had passed on by, then he stepped back on the sidewalk and went on his way. I had never seen anything like that where I was raised, it made me feel so creepy that I have never forgotten it.

The one thing that is true is that if you bump up against a person of color some of the color will rub off on you, I was plain white when I was a young man but after years of being bumped around with all these other people I now have colorful splotches all over me and probably left a few white marks on all different kinds of people who I have had the privilege and honor to work with. I have worked side by side and have represented people of every race, color and creed, when you spend that much time around people, depending on them, and them depending on you, you will find that they sweat, they bleed, they laugh when tickled, they cry when terrible things happen to them, and that the only difference between us is the outer wrapper.

I was born into segregated Arkansas and I remember the blacks having to act like that. They were supposed to hang their heads and not look at whites in public. At 10 years old I was seen talking to some 12 year old black girls and got followed home with threats of beating me up and calling me n...lover for couple weeks. Blacks were not allowed in grocery stores in my neighborhood and some of the nicer clerks would open up a back door and sell stuff.

That outer wrapper is the reason that they have vowed openly from the very beginning to make Obama fail. Can't have a black man not know his place. The teabaggers are here to let him know who is in charge.

I know a majority of our country is not racist because we did elect Obama as our president. We saw brains and they saw a color to defeat.

GOPisexstinct and Forrest, thank you for sharing your real life experiences. Racism does still exist but in much more subtle ways .I was a child and teen during segregation living in St. Louis MO. It was real. Moved back to MN in the late 50's and the racism was going strong here, it was against the Native Americans in our state.

Your posts is a thoughtful reminder that we as a nation have struggled to overcome discrimination in all forms. The work continues.

Does it work the same way with different ideology? Do you find that you might be intolerant of others view point because of their ideology? I read your posts, you have a lot to offer, but I also notice how intolerant you can be at times. We all sweat, bleed and laugh if we are lucky, and have cried too many times. Because I think differently, does that mean I am incapable of laughter, or feeling sad, does it make me inhuman?

Of course you are human, and deserve the same respect and consideration as anybody else, and not everybody I work with is of the same political ideology. It is easy on an anonymous blog to forget there is a real person behind each post because usually we only get to see one small facet of the poster. That is one reason we can get worked up, we don't know each other, it is easy to talk about some general anonymous stereotype of a person you don't know, than to say those things about someone you really know and have depended on in spite of your personal, political or religious differences. It is one reason I post in different ways sometimes I try to be serious, sometimes I am silly, sometimes I might be too personal for a political blog, and yes sometimes I might be a little angry. But I want people to know I am a real person. I try to separate the ideology from the person and while I might slam the ideology I try not to slam the poster personally, but I have from time to time, it is not right, I should not be that way, but I have been called a few things here and there and it is hard for me not to push back. I think if we simply treat each other with fairness and honesty a lot of problems could be solved in spite of any of our differences. I am intolerant with people who would put others unnecessarily in harms way for profit or anyone that defends that in any way, hell I'll fistfight if that what it takes. I have worked most of my life in the field, I am considered an expert at what I do, I am a patented inventor and lecture on very technical subjects, and yet you are right I can still get to the point where I don't know what else to do but tell someone they will have to knock my ass out before they do that to my crew. If I have been extremely harsh or have insulted you personally I apologize. I know I am not as smart as I wish I could be and I know I can be a crab ass, that is why I picked the moniker of Forrest Grump.

Or prescrition drugs. Or veterans their care after fighting hard defending our land. She would not want American highways rebuilt. Or unempolyed americas to get help.

All so she can score minor politcal points.

Instead of the public good she stands only for her self.

I can't wrap my mind around the Hobbit thingy, having read none of the books this has me confused.

Me too, I think it is an ancient fable only someone as old as McCain remembers, I am not sure it is from a book I think it was originally written on clay tablets when McCain read it.

                        Forrest--

'Michele's Prayer' is a gem of satire, my friend. I'm copying it and sending it along to my family and friends.

                        Cheers,

The Tea Party are like teenagers driving their first car - pedal to medal and reckless in their disregard for everyone else - no one's going to tell me what to do - and about to run down pedestrians in the street.

                        From MSNBC:

US economy slowed to snail's pace in second quarter
GDP comes in at 1.3 percent pace, much slower than expected

The U.S. economy slowed to a crawl in the second quarter as consumer spending stalled amid higher gasoline prices.

The Commerce Department's first estimate of second quarter growth, released Friday, came in at a 1.3 percent rate, much lower than the consensus estimate of around 1.8 percent.

What's more, first-quarter output was sharply revised down to a 0.4 percent pace from 1.9 percent.
