NJ Gov. Christie hospitalized because of difficulty breathing

AP

Chris Christie (R-NJ) was hospitalized after experience difficulty breathing, related to asthma, his office says.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) was hospitalized with “difficulty breathing,” his office confirms to WNBC’s Brian Thompson.

Here’s a statement from Christie Press Secretary Michael Drewniak:

"Governor Christie was having difficulty breathing this morning and out of an abundance of caution he went to Somerset Medical Center to be checked out. In line with someone dealing with asthma, he is being given routine tests as a precautionary measure. The Governor is extremely grateful for the quality of care he is receiving this morning and has nothing but praise for the world-class doctors, nurses and staff."

*** UPDATE *** Thompson has more:
While it is not known if this is an asthmatic attack at this point, a source close to the governor confirms Christie has suffered from asthma for years.

"He carries an inhaler with him," this source told NBC New York.

He also noted that the governor's weight doesn't help his health issues.

***UPDATE*** WNBC's Pat Battle has more:
The Christie team is attributing this incident to complications from asthma. He will reportedly be released this evening and will return to the state house tomorrow.

His wife, Mary Pat, is expected to attend their son's baseball game tonight, as planned.

 ***UPDATE***
Christie has left the hospital. He tells reporters he will be back to work Friday.

Gov. Christie will suffer the same fate as I Ayn Rand, she preached. Less is more government. She preached personal responsibility, you can trust cigarette manufacturers not kill its customers. You can trust the fat man to eat his way healthy. Fat chance! There is only two choices for Gov. Christie, that is a lap band or brain transplant. Without these two remedies, I am afraid Gov. Christie will die someday of his own hypocrisy, as his hero / mentor Ayn Rand. Her addiction to cigarettes killed her. She had no control over her appetites. You can trust corporations to make profits, it costs money to be considerate of the customers.

I don't wish ill well on people. In fact I adore people; but some people get what they deserve...based on who they are and how they treat their fellow human beings.

Hard to feel sorry for a political leader; whom actions shows no mercy for the ones that need their leadership for most.

GOD don't like ugly!!! Maybe when Christie feels better - he can be more compasionate towards his fellow human beings.

Maybe GOD is warning him to be more gentle, more kind and more fair - after all GOD giveth and he taketh.

Take notice GOP/TP political leaders - you can't continue to treat your fellow human beings like CRAP - and think you won't be punished.

No amount of money can pay GOD off!!!!

GOD SAID LOVE THY NEIGHBOR !!! Treat others as you would want to be treated - or you shall have a short life!

    TRUTH - not CRAP

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA

Indeed, Christie could care less about the people he's hurt and vilified since taking office. What about the families of all the public employees he's now hurt financially? On top of that he's created class warfare and vilified public employees for all evils caused by his rich Republican pals on Wall street! Sorry, but I don't shed a tear for this arrogant, lying, bully especially when he should know better. Seriously doubt he'll have an epiphany and change his ways.

Time for a diet maybe.it's obvious he's lazy.Lets not forget the limo ride from helicopter to baseball field and back to helicopter the walk would have done him some good.I was far from obesity but I was fat I recently went on a salad diet that included 3 miles on the treadmill everyday 3 months later Ive gone from 216 pounds to 186 pounds.while I do not like his politics somebody needs to tell this guy if he wants to see his son play ball in the future wake up an hour earlier get on the treadmil eat some salads if not for you but for your kids.We would rather beat you in your next election then have a special election cuz you ate your self to death.

    Hello:

Has anyone like thought about Obstructive Sleep Apnea? Like duh, he's a set up given his obesity and thick neck, plus underlying asthma. I'll bet he goes home with a sleep apnea machine!

I worked my whole life and now I might never get the social security we so desperately need. My 71 year old husband can't afford his Medicare Part B Premiums so no health care there either and he NEEDS medical care! My college student kids and I will drown in debt due to student loans (which might disappear) but not getting them will leave them with NO future.... We live on a small pension and social security, less than $1400 a month and we're being asked to sacrifice more? Those elected people like Christie make a lot of money and get benefits people could only dream off but there's no talk of cutting back here, is there? They get more than generous pensions, quality health care, everything paid for and more.... while we loose homes and lives.... is this the balanced approach the GOP talk about? They should be ashamed!

Just curious but how old are you and your children? You're already on SS and you have college age kids? You also imply that the kids are going to college in the future. I take you are female, as you mention a 71 year old husband. You could be gay but then your kids would be adopted?

Are you in fact a paid troll just posting talking points on an item that concerns a man's health?

Get Well Soon Governor..we in NJ need you.

Been rushed to the hospital twice this year for irregular heartbeat and I'm in great shape. Not overweight. I don't wish hospital visits on anyone but Christie surely needs to go on a diet.

Seems like the "rising stars of the Repub Party"---Bachmann with the headaches, and now, Christie with the diabetes & asthma are fallin' apart. Bet they got nice, gov't/taxpayer-paid health insurance, unlike the rest of us poor slobs. Christie oughtta be doing some serious exercising & dieting, with NO GOOD EXCUSES for anyone to be that fat!

Christie oughtta listen to 1st Lady Michelle Obama, for sure...!

I know Governor Christie doesn't have a lot a disposable income with a large family and his low salary. But he needs to pay for the entire bill without goverment assistance. Look, times are tough I do not enjoy having to be the messenger on this. But I agreed prior to making this post that we need to make tough decisions. Thats what the people wish for me to post when they elected the governor. People having four kids and taking from the government dole has got to stop at some point. We just can't afford it. I'm sure the Governor and his detail can apply for some assistance down the road, fill out a bunch of forms, and go to his local pharmacy, wait for them to update the information because they never did receive it, receive a much more affordable cost effective inhaler that may or may not work if he is still conscouis by that time. Tough times call for tough choices.

It seems that big mouths equal big waistbands. I would guess Lardbaugh because he has the biggest mouth.

Now how does that read? How exactly is this any different from that pastor in AZ asking his congregation to pray that Obama gets brain cancer and dies?

          De gustibus non disputandum est.

smith 1, my point was that your wishing death on Christie is the same in spirit as the pastor praying for Obama's death. If you believe that Jared Loughner shot Rep. Giffords because of overheated and violent rhetoric in the media, then it would do you (and your side) well to cool it. You hate Christie, fine, but if you find that can get yourself a visit from the Secret Service just by changing the name in an angry post, you cross a very dangerous line.

And besides, deathwishing violates Newsvine's CoH.

why you like this fat ass I will never understand !!! but, DE GUSTIBUS NON EST DISPUTANDUM !!! is the proper sentence and of course it loosely translates as "there is no accounting for taste" !!!

              Armando baby

Ted Kennedy was target nr 1 of all conservatives, tons of negative and tasteless stuff was said, written and promoted against him. Christie would have to spend another 40 years in politics to even come within 20% of what Kennedy endured.

don't defend christie !!! he's not worth it !!! and as he is a public figure, he is fair game !!!

In this thread, I'm not posting as a political partisan, but rather as someone who interested in civility. Regardless of your political affiliations, wishing death on your political foes, as you and many others on thread have, frankly only serves to divide us, and, rather more dangerously, to excite the deranged, e.g. Jared Loughner.

Again, I fail to see the difference between the spirit of your post and the spirit of that Arizona pastor's prayers for Obama's death. The only distinction you seem to make is that you like one (Obama) and hate the other (Christie).

Deathwishing, whether online or off, is simply unacceptable in a democracy.

Chris Christy is as big a bully as there is -- no pun intended. Hopefully this will remind him that he's just as mortal as all those other folks who need the help that he has been busy taking away. But then again, he's republican and for some reason, republicans never mind seeing others suffer as long as it is the others. When he gets back, he will still be an unapologetic bad azz bully.

If you look at President Obama it is amazing how he's physically changed and he's probably the most physically fit President we've ever had. Presidents seem to age the same way dogs do.
