First Read has confirmed that six-term Arkansas Congressman Mike Ross (D) will not seek re-election next year, according to a Democratic source.
Ross is reportedly eyeing a gubernatorial bid in 2014.
Ross' congressional seat won't be easy for Democrats to hold next year. Obama won just 39% of the vote in the district in '08.

Can't blame Mike Ross. Better to be governor than a member of a dysfunctional House.
The Democrats that are quitting Congress is starting early this election season.
Maybe a few of them will stick it out, take their chances with a possible switch to the GOP.
Don't hold your breath. No Dem is going to join the Tea Bag Sect.
That's OK... the democrats don't really stand a chance anyway.
What is it with democrat congressmen with last names starting with W?
Weiner
Wu?
These guys have a hard time controlling their family jewels.
Brianb,
You mean as opposed to the Republican family jewels running amuck being of various letters of the alphabet and not limiting themselves to just two Ws?
What is it with Republican Senators whose last names start with E or V?
Ensign
or
Vitter?
Or Congressmen whose names start with W?
West?
That's a joke AnaBanana... If you think the democrats are only limited to two W's, you need to rethink it. I realize that Weiner is a sore spot with the liberals... now the latest in scandals is a real Wu hoo! Coming on to an aide's daughter... what a putz!
Hey Anna - I condemn the republicans that do this stuff as well. Only problem... that's not todays news. You really have to keep up old gal.
Ahhh! Hit a nerve didn't I? Not one but two angry sputters from you. I feel privileged. Thank you Brianb.
LoL That's not MY problem, Brianb, old chap. ;-)
Speaker Boehner has respect for the office of the President, but not for this President. Obama's angry response to being eliminated from the negotiation process was priceless. A perfected tone of populist politics and of "What about the children?" rhetoric. Yeah, Obama can sure pull on the heart-strings. Now if could balance a budget, that certainly would be big news.
Speaker Boehner's frustration was clear, Obama couldn't organize figuring out the tip at a diner, let alone figure out the countries budget. Cantor was wrong, Obama was the last guy you wanted at these negotiations. The country would have had better luck if Bernie Madoff had showed up. Obama is nothing short of being divisive, argumentative, ignorant, and more concerned about re-election then he was about getting a deal done. Obama killed the deal because his base voters told him to do so, he never had any intention of touching the Democrats sacred entitlements. Obama putting them "on the table" was nothing but a charade. Now those entitlements with wither away on their own accord.
It's best now that Obama and the Democrats switch their attention to gay marriage and global warming because they haven't a clue on how to figure out a budget.
"Obama killed the deal because his base said to,..."
You mean that this guy thinks 'representative form of government' means actually doing what the people that you represent want you to do?
What a concept. When's the GOP gonna try this 'rad' approach, and tell the minorities (meaning one person) like Norquist to take a hike?
Anna - I really did forget to put the :-) behind my comment.
AnaB - I never sputter. I may spatter a bit, but never sputter. Sputtering is just too darn messy.
The GOP didn't make their no new tax pledge to the latest lefty-lib bogeyman Norquist, they made it to the people/voters they represent. This is something you'll never understand Buzz.
Because Obama was all over the road with what he wanted in the deal, Speaker Boehner just cut his loses and went to talk to Reid. Think on the bright side Buzz, this gives Obama more time to whine about the Republicans, a favorite past-time both for him, and his adoring fans like you.
Read your comment again. I don't think we're talking about the same thing.
Or maybe we are. ;-)
So, Pelosi,( who demanded a set at the debt ceiling table and seems to have contributed its failure), is launching an ethics investigation on Congressman Wu, (who seems to be certifiable), due to allegations of an "unwanted sexual encounter" with a teenager.
Where I come from, "unwanted sexual encou ters" go by the name of "rape".
There is an allegation that this congressman raped a teenager- and this calls for an ethics investigation? Seems to me it calls for an arrest.
It seems that this is not the first time Wu has forced himself on a young woman
http://www.oregonlive.com/politics/index.ssf/2011/07/rep_david_wu_accused_of_aggres.html
So, just so we're all on the same page-
His behavior during the camapign was nothing short of bizarre- but the press did not notice;
He ran for office at least seven times, and no one ever noticed that he was disciplined for sexual misconduct;
He has just had another incident with a teenager. . .
And Firat Read has run how many stories on him?
Let's guess how many stories there would be if he were a republican. I'm betting it would equal the Palin coverage on this site.
Send Wu to the cold showers, permanently.
But by the way, no joe ... I believe there WERE a few stories about Anthony Weiner out here.
Or did you skip those? LoL
And then, maybe, we can take a look at Congressman West's "odd" behavior, and I'm not just talking about Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.
Where is the First Read story on Congressman Wu anyway??? I would think a respected political blog like First Read would be the first to report on this story!!!
GIVE US WU!!!
Chris
You'll see that story right after they do the one on the Obama "Justice" Department ,(with Obama's knowledge) smuggling thousands of automatic weapons to anti-government elements in Mexico and Honduras in order to destabilize those Governments, and then calling it a "Law Enforcement " operation!, Yup,as the old line goes, "You can learn a lot from what You don't read in the news".
If, as Patrick Moynahan once said "all politics is local," the exceedingly unpopular Republican governors in key states may well be an indication of how voters will punish Republicans running for Congress in 2011
I don’t know that I buy the theory that these unpopular Republican governors are likely to harm the aspirations of the party’s presidential nominee though a “reverse coattail” effect, the evidence for which is quite spotty. But I do think it’s a significant problem for Republicans on its own terms. It suggests that the party has become uninterested in appealing to swing voters — and that the voters are starting to notice.

"The GOP didn't make their no new tax pledge to the latest lefty-lib bogeyman Norquist, they made it to the people/voters they represent."
Wrong, Smiff. And you know it.
Acually, there are people on the right that would agree revenue needs to be raised at this point in the crisis. They aren't the ones in DC refusing to 'violate' the pledge that was created by....Norquist- NOT 'the people'.

We are! :-p LOL
Wake me up in October, 2012, and ask me how hard it will be for Democrats to hold that seat.
A lot of water has to flow under the bridge before then.
If I were a Republican, I wouldn't be counting my chickens just yet.
Besides, I prefer goats. Just ask JoAnna.
Mmmm ... warm chevre on a toasted crostini with sun-dried tomatoes and chopped fresh basil.
You just don't know what you're missing, JoAnna.
Alright - you and Jas1 were engaged in a chick fight when I left Friday, and looks like you are right back at it.
And now you are getting farm animals involved. Sweet!
9:05 am on a Monday morning and already things are looking up.
No chick fight, Spanky.
It's just girls discussing their favorite recipes.
You wouldn't get it.
Sorry, But most of us are on Eastern Standard Time Spanky. You're a little behind... or is that a big behind. I'm going to go with the latter seeing as it is you Spanky.
AM----sounds like you are as good a cook as you are a debater! I think that appetizer should be on the menu at the Dew Drop Inn for this week's Happy Hour!! What beverage would you suggest?
Re the Arkansas election---let's see how fond of Republicans the people there are, especially if there are any seniors living there. Over the weekend, a conservative friend said to me: "I've served in the military and worked at jobs for over 40 years and the Republicans want to call Social Security an "entitlement" as if it is a dirty word. You bet I'm entitled--I paid in for 40 years!"
Well sorry there devie, I did not know that you are the designated spokesman for all here. So did you conduct an actual poll, or just Divine that "most" are on Eastern time?
I don't know, but if true then there sure are a lot of pathetic souls around here in what is the later afternoon/early evening for the one or two others on West Coast time. Those bastards must be posting into the wee hours then. Huh?
Oh and devie it's really not very nice of you to say I have a big butt.
Am - you leave my chick fighting fantasies alone.
I don't drink beer, but I think a good dark ale would work with this. Or wine, red or white. I don't discriminate.
Bubbles are always good, like a lovely Prosecco, or maybe even champagne.
Or, for water afficianados, I recommend San Pellegrino.
I don't happen to have any chevre, so my own lunch time variation is herbed cheese spread with thinly sliced roast beef and fresh pico de gallo, with thinly sliced scallions for color and added texture.
Debating makes me hungry. ;-)
As for Arkansas, yes I think we'll see about it. You take your life in your hands when you move your juggernaut down the road so fast that you forget you are hurting your own largest base, and the base that votes most consistently.
Provided they all have the new voter IDs, of course. No correlation there, either, I don't suppose.
Wouldn't dream of messing with them, Spanky, but they're not MY fantasies.
In MY fantasies, I always lose the fight.
AM---I'm definitely a champagne kind of gal, so I'm voting for that! Will get the first round! As long as it is less than the $350/bottle that Paul Ryan drinks!
The Republicans do seem to have taken their base for granted---local TV around here has ads sponsored by AARP about Medicare cuts, etc. There are some seriously angry seniors out there.
So AM - how's that Eastern Standard time working out for you?
A little out of sync maybe?
And stopwith the "always lose the fight" crap. You little hippie - in your dreams there are no fights. Just peace, love and huge wages for all unions and middle class. And all CEOs get minimum wage.
Oh, wait that's just Think Progress' home page.
@ Spanky:
You had me until you said CEO's get minimum wage.
I would exempt them from coverage, just like lawyers are exempt.
I absolutely LOVE Eastern Standard Time (which we're on right now), except sometimes, it stays dark too late in the mornings. Or does it ever stay dark too late in the morning? On second thought, probably not.
As for fights, speak for yourself. This is MY fantasy land we're talking about, Spanky. There are no liberals or conservatives in my fantasy land -- well, okay, maybe there are, but I still lose the fights.
@ Steeler -- Champagne it is, and nothing but the best. A magnum of Dom, perhaps?
Spanky, The only thing good about Pacific Standard Time is that Football starts early and well my home state of CA.
REALLY????
Not me... I am from the midwest. And if I am correct... Feisty, Bev, and a whole host of others are not on eastern time either...
Guess you are wrong again devie! (what else is new?)
"Sorry, But most of us are on Eastern Standard Time Spanky. You're a little behind... or is that a big behind. I'm going to go with the latter seeing as it is you Spanky."
Aww....that was mean, Devie. Spanks just wants to hang and dish with the 'chicks' again today......
"Oh and devie it's really not very nice of you to say I have a big butt.
Ummm.. was the implication that you HAVE a big butt??
Ouch! That almost hurt SOB! Yeah and your Midwest point is? I also reside there. Just in the Eastern Time Zone. I think you missed my point. Thanks, for the slam though.
Hey, I have to to throw out a few barbs at my homeboy. Life's good!
I'm hurt, I tell you. Hurt.
Discussions about the time zone are getting more votes than my fantasy world. ;-)
Well I voted. I like fantasies. Especially the ones the Tea Bags here are spinning. Well as long as they remain in the fantasy world. I can always use a good laugh!
That's very sweet, Devie. My fantasy world thanks you. ;-)
Sorry devie TEA PARTY realitiy is the only reality show in DC right now.
Debts, deficits and spending cuts, Oh My!
