Subscribe to RSSThe House has voted against giving President Obama limited authorization to continue on with the operations in Libya. This is the resolution that was sponsored by Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL) and is similiar to the Kerry/McCain resolution.
The vote: 123 (115 Dems, 8 GOPers) were in favor of the resolution, while 295 voted against it (70 Dems, 225 GOPers).
The House now moves on to debating the resolution to defund some of America's efforts in Libya.

That's sad to see. Libya is the first military conflict since Gulf I that we are involved in for the right reasons.
But please, let's throw more funding at the Pentagon to spill our blood in the deserts of Afgh/Pak, while the Pakistani government helps the enemy behind our backs. Now THAT's a fight we should get behind!
Congressionals have been well-consulted about this mission, so far approx 50 times.
For the US this mission is limited in scope, and achieves the goals set down by United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973 by protecting civilians, enforcing an arms embargo, enforcing a no-fly zone. This mission helps the Transitional National Council of Libya to envision with others the future of a post-Qaddafi Libya. This mission speaks to basic civil rights & human rights that we all deserve.
Beaten down and exploited by the rich and powerful, who will step in? When Mr. Qaddafi leaves, it will be the result of pressures put on him by NATO.
Where is the pro-Israel lobby on this issue?

What a load of B.S.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you think Muammar Gaddafi is responsible for ordering a plane to be bombed, lets say like Pan Am Flight 103, then you go in and get him as soon as it happens, like in the year 1988! You don't wait more than 22 years, when you feel like it, or when the political winds are blowing his way, invade his country and then say, "Oh and by the way, we've heard you're also responsible for murders in the past, so we're here to take you out ---- also, we think you might murder many more people if we don't come in here and stop you."

i understand that the us must support it's allies who have supported us in afraqu, but this is a serious constitutional question? you would think these teapubs who live and die by the constitution would have voted aye?
so who are our allies in libya??? and why are we there interferring in what is obviously a civil war?

Once again the people of the world will see that the US doesn't honor her treaties. Nothing new about that, just ask anyone that has studied the history of treaties broken during the westward expansion.

One of the first initaitives where NATO has taken the lead and the first time every the Arab Alliance has gotten off the couch and taken a role in their own region ( outside of talk )
Anything the President says is refuted ( unless its tax cuts ). I think everyone knew this would be a year of stalemate and lack of progress but this all kind of sucks.

That is not a bill that someone should be passing now … to take permission or not … to fund or not … the bill that should be passed right now collectively with all nations is “NO MORE WARS FOR MONEY”. That’s the bill they should pass right now. This bill should imply that the warring nations … this is the nations that are bombing the country should not in any way get involved in any kind of direct or indirect financial transactions with the victim country. That’s what we should fight for now … that’s the bill they should pass now.
After seeing what they have done in Ruka … what is stopping us from bringing about such a resolution?
