Gingrich: Our mistake was 'we tried to be normal'; likens himself to Reagan

Speaking at the Atlanta Press Club this morning, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) addressed the recent staff departures in his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.

"We made a mistake. We tried to be normal," Gingrich said. "We tried to bring in regular political consultants -- very smart people.  And it turned out they couldn't do it."

"I am very different than normal politicians," he added. "And normal consultants found that very hard to deal with."

Gingrich advised GOP voters to choose a candidate who has the "toughness and perseverance to survive the last four weeks of news media."

Gingrich pointed to Ronald Reagan's time as president to demonstrate how he'll overcome the recent staff shakeups. Gingrich said that in 1980, 13 staffers resigned from Reagan's campaign, but that he went on to "rebuild the American economy."

"So if I have to choose Reaganomics with 13 staffers quitting or Obamanomics with the media fawning over him," Gingrich said. "I think for the average working American, Reaganomics is a lot better deal."

Are you suggesting you're not normal, Mr. Gingrich? I'll buy that.

The liberals had no part in his destruction... he's the wrong guy for the job. He has no support from the republicans or the independents. His ship was sunk way before it set sail... too much damaging baggage. His best bet would be to withdraw before he really does become a laughing stock.

Dear Newt: You are far from normal, as a politician and man. And if these "very smart people" couldn't help you, who can? So why not just bow out gracefully, don all the Tiffany jewels, and go on another cruise. We, the normal American people, will be better off if you would. Please.

Now, whenever Newt and his wife appear on TV - I have started to REALLY check out her jewelry.

And the other thought was when one of the staff had said that they could never schedule an event for Newt until late morning because Calista has to get her hair done each time and it takes at least an hour to do. ONE HOUR!

Repeat after me -

Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Regan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Regan. Ronald Reagan.

There, that should do it 'til tomorrow when the next jackass politician tries to compare himself to -

Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan.

As a kid I grew up watching all the old Bugs Bunny cartoons. I remember in those cartoons that all the crazy people claimed they were Napoleon.

I guess all the crazy Republicans just run around claiming they're Reagan.

And the Barack Obama of 2011 would be kicked out of the Democrat Party of 2008 for being too much like Bush. Don't you agree? I think you do because me and you are pretty much on the same page.

Ronald Reagan raised taxes every year except his first year in office and the re-election year--that's another reason Reagan would not be conservative enough.

So, apparently there are only 2 things you need to do to run for the GOP nomination for President:

    1. Accuse the media of "liberal bias".

    2. Claim you're Reagan.

Some say the root of Newt's problem lies with that blond bombshell he dropped on wife two, whom he just HAD to woo before he lost his yute (youth).

It is no surprise to me that ol' Newtie boy is not popular on a progressive web-site or that the slings and arrows are chucked fast and furious here.

What is surprising to me is the audacity displayed by Gingrich.  His goose is cooked, even with conservatives, and yet he refuses to accept it and still believes he has a snowball's chance in h$ll.

Someday I am going to invent an elixir and I am going to call it Ego-Squash.  I will furnish all politicians with free samples and tell them it increases their libido and their sexual performance.  I will tell them that no woman can resist their charms, whether she is Bimbolina or is Modern Madonna (or even a feisty redhead).

They will buy it by the keg and I will become the richest varmit around and they could lose one tenth of their enormous egos.

        Won't life be grand!

It's funny that when Republicans discuss Reaganomics they never mention Reagan's financial guru who came up with Reaganomics. He said that it was all smoke and mirrors. Total BS and had no foundation whatsoever and they snowed the whole country with it. Short memories, huh? Let's see, that was an administration that saw a huge increase in the national debt, right? As did Mr. Bush. And yes, as has Mr. Obama.

I'm in the wasteland between liberal and conservative. I have elements of each. I do think Republicans are nastier in general in terms of demeanor. I have trouble understanding why they swear by a conservative approach to government and then run up the national debt and try to legislate personal behavior. However the more extreme Democrats are just silly stupid. I'd say we need a third party but that would probably quickly become as corrupt as the other two.

Gingrich comparing himself to Reagan ? That would be laughable, if it weren't so frightening. "Reaganomics" was an utter Disaster. Did Wealth "trickle down" ? Not to Americans... it all stayed with the Rich Corporations, who were smart enough to outsource our Labor to India and China. Why ? Because they didn't have to pay their Workers nearly as much.

"Reaganomics" was actually "Screw the American People".

Bernanke's premonition alone spells political doom for ANY incumbent President, however and at this juncture......it happens to be Obama. It is better to accept this situation for what it is rather than continue to deny it....it is only counter productive to do so. Sticking your head in the "cut & paste essay" sand and pretending that this is all not happening is a fools game!
