Fellow Mormon Reid bashes Romney, favors Huntsman

From NBC's Shawna Thomas and Carrie Dann
It might have come with a favorable comparison to one of his main rivals, but here’s an endorsement that former Gov. Jon Huntsman probably won’t be touting on his website anyway.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, reviled by conservatives for ushering Democratic legislation through Congress during Obama’s first two years in office, told reporters Tuesday that he’d pick Huntsman over GOP rival and fellow Mormon Mitt Romney.

“If I had a choice, I would favor Huntsman over Romney,” said Reid, who like Romney and Huntsman belongs to the Church of Latter-Day Saints.

The Senate leader proceeded to take a broad swipe at the former Massachusetts governor, whom he described as a “a man who doesn't know who he is.”

Reid noted Romney’s policy switches on social issues and said that the health care bill that Democrats passed in the Senate was largely based on the one Romney signed into state law in 2006.

“We modeled our bill ... to a large degree about what he did in Massachusetts,” Reid said. “Now he's trying to run from that.”

“If someone doesn't know who they are, they shouldn’t be president of the United States.”

While Reid’s embrace of Huntsman may not do the presidential hopeful much good with Republican primary voters, the onetime ambassador to China may not mind Reid’s reminder about Romney’s health care plan.

In a Huntsman video released Tuesday, the newly-minted candidate took a similar shot at Romney – although without mentioning the other GOP contender by name.

“Took on the tough. Health care. Did it right. No mandates,” the video’s narrator says. “Free market-based, not government-run. Ah, if others had only chosen that path. What does it take to do things right, to never flip, never flop?”

It’s worth noting that Huntsman was once open to the idea of an individual mandate, but it was ultimately not included in the health care bill passed in his home state.

NBC's Sarah Blackwill contributed.

Heres what Obama has done for the US,read it and weep libtards.

This quote came from the Czech Republic. Someone over there has it figured out. We have a lot of work to do.

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."

Hap, Did you also fall for the email from the guy from Nigeria who is a heir to a fortune but needs your help. You send him money and he promises to share the wealth. Or the email that if you do not send this garbage to ten blog sites in the next hour you break the chain and don't get the great payoff.

Goggle the first eight words of the first sentence of your quote: you get two blogs and one newspaper site: Pressdemocrat.com says:

this unsigned , author unknown, quote has been around since 2009. It was spruced up with the bogus Czech reference or even a name of a Czech newspaper in some of its versions.

If you have to hid behind a bogus quote to post your true sentiments that is another matter.

Any good teacher would have you go to detention for sloppy work. You are dismissed!

Reid favors Huntsman?

Death knell for Huntsman. Maybe Harry planned it that way.

My opinion of Huntsman at this time is he is too unknown nationally. Of course, that didn't stop Obama. I heard him say that Obama should not be attacked for policy because he is President. "Being civil" is how I think he phrased it.

Too unknown and too weak kneed......IMO.

Of course Reid favors Huntsman ! He is the farthest left of the Republicans. The Democrats always want a Republican moderate (farther left) candidate. Why? Because the Democrats always beat Republican moderate. They will tell everyone from the conservative wing is too extreme to be elected. But the conservative are the ones who always beat the Democrats. Also, why do they never say the candidates from the far left are extreme. Because sitting in NY among their liberal buddies, they think the far left main stream. This proves the liberal media should get out of the NYC cocktail parties full of liberals and visit middle America.

The name of the "Mormon" Church is not the 'Church of Latter-Day Saints' it is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Pretty significant mistake on a name.

Of course Reid is going to bash Romney. You don't try to knock people off the bottom ------- you try to knock the top competition, OFF THE TOP.

Everybody sees right through this though, and besides, THE TIME FOR GAMES IS OVER.

There are too many people hurting in this country. Mitt Romney is a Republican front runner that has PLANS to SOLVE the problems of this country.

Very smart of Reid to endorse Huntsman over Romney. We already know baggers hate Romney because of his successful healthcare plan, but to remind them they are both Mormon. Oh my gosh, what do they do? Can't go with anyone a democrat recommends, and it would never occur to them to vote for the most qualified. What a dilemma!!

I guess that's what they meant everything in our power to make him fail. I am an Indi. and have voted for people in both parties but damn can you repubs give it a rest. Why is Senator Reid supporting Huntsmen? Do the Democratics have something on Huntsmen that they can use? Maybe Reid has something on all his fellow Mormans..who knows?

It's spelled Mormon- not Morman. Tks. Mormon was an ancient American Prophet who lived around 400 AD. by the way. Go to lds.org or mormon.org for more info.

No, Moroni was Mormon's son. Mormon is the one who abridge all of the ancient records of what was to become The Book of Mormon. It's not called the Book of Moroni. LDS.org or Mormon.org

I will look forward to Obama trying to explain his record of overspending and failure on the economy. He will probably try to blame everything on Bush.

Romney AK Flipper will be confused by the time the debates happen on exactly where he stands because he will have changed his position on several issues at least 20 times by the debate if he makes it that far.

Why is it that the only people making an issue of the religion of any candidate are the Democrats. They are the ones telling us who the Republicans will or will not vote for. The one thing that the left has no clue about is what the christian right will or will not vote for. I have read the left saying christian fundamentalists will not vote for Romney. My challenge still is for them to name one fundamentalist leader who has come out against Romney. The vast majority on the left can't even name a US christian fundamentalist leader.

If one wants to make a depression worse, vote republican. They got us to this point. It can only get worse. They believe in the "supply" side of economics. Give ALL the tax breaks to ones "producing" (making) things. The REAL problem is that there is no middle class that buy now. Credit is used up. The government has been keeping the economy afloat for years...by buying. Bad thing is...we now have a deficit. So...the people are in debt...AND the government is in debt. Unless WAGES are increased a LOT....so that people can start buying...there will not be any change. When people buy...people are hired to make more goods. They pay taxes---GOOD for the government deficit. But we know that big business will NOT do the right thing. They OWN the republican party. As soon as government spending (that is holding up the demand part of the economy) is cut....we will plung headlong into a deep deep depression. This one will be much worse than the last one. The workers themselves should own the majority of companies. That way, you would have people in charge who would have to do their jobs instead of leeches. We would once again have a middle class. Huge wage increases for middle class workers would turn this ecnonmy around. Huge companies should be taxed at HIGH rates to also bring down the deficit. The tax rates in the 1950's was 90 percent and they STILL made money. If large businesses choose to leave the country...(they already have)...then SMALL businesses would be GOOD for our country. There has to be a balance between supply and demand (the buyers)

Because those in the media on the far left look upon strong religious views is a negative for any candidate. They view such beliefs as a mental flaw. Such beliefs do not correspond with the secular humanist viewpoint that is so prevalent on the left.

Actuallly, it's the extreme Christian right that looks upon a strong Christian faith only as a positive for a candidate. They won't choose a Mormon since they don't consider Mormans to be "true Christians" per their definition. The "far left" believes that we all have "freedom of religion" in this country and it has nothing to do with a person's qualification as a political candidate.

Harry Reid is a self center, dishonest and deceitful democrat, so what he has to say about a republican candidate mean absolutely nothing. He is just trying to fix the vote like he did with Healthcare Reform, bailouts and alternate energy legislation he passed in 2000. Harry Reid has profited from every legislation he has pass, just look at his record and bank account. Harry Reid is the reason we are in a financial mess, he did not pass legislation to help the nation, he did it for his own benefit.

Senator Reid has awarded the Government funded project, the Wind farm, to the China company; and from the China company has signed a contract to a U.S. A. steel company. But the million dollars project has gone to the Shanghai based China company last year.

Huntsman is the former China ambassador.

There may be concerns of large big projects would go to any China companies. Then more U.S.A. companies may go to bankruptcy , or the profit is going to be taken by the 'layering-styled business". And more real estates have more problems.

Then more foreign investors have owned our land and real estates. Then the future market will shoot up next round. And the application requirement may change next round.

Domino effects, from politics to economy, have affected the business and the middle class.

Or we may need to start to learn China economy and political system, such a scary thought.

Harry is out of touch. He says nothing needs to been done with entitilements but I guess he is too old to know the following math problem:

The Annual deficti is $1.4 trilliion per year

and if you raise taxes on those over 250k per year, the tax increase raises 800 billion over 10 years or 80 billion per year

and you take away oil and gas deductions which raises 21 billion per year

the annual deficit is still 1.3 trillion. You can't balance the budget by taxing the rich

If you take away all Bush tax cuts, you only raise another 300 billion, Still an annual 1 trillion defict after that. You can't balance the budget by taxing everyone.

These are the numbers as a result of the the spending the last two years.

The bond markets and the chinese will eventually say that they will stop buying our bonds. Defense, medicare, social security, and all the perks like PBS, amtrack, farm subsidies, and everything else has to be cut substantially. If we don't no one will have anything.

                                            Wake up Harry

I guess that Huntsmen really was looking forward to the endorsement by reid as if any republican/conservative give a damn what harry hare brained reid thinks about the republican nomination for President.
