It might have come with a favorable comparison to one of his main rivals, but here’s an endorsement that former Gov. Jon Huntsman probably won’t be touting on his website anyway.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, reviled by conservatives for ushering Democratic legislation through Congress during Obama’s first two years in office, told reporters Tuesday that he’d pick Huntsman over GOP rival and fellow Mormon Mitt Romney.
“If I had a choice, I would favor Huntsman over Romney,” said Reid, who like Romney and Huntsman belongs to the Church of Latter-Day Saints.
The Senate leader proceeded to take a broad swipe at the former Massachusetts governor, whom he described as a “a man who doesn't know who he is.”
Reid noted Romney’s policy switches on social issues and said that the health care bill that Democrats passed in the Senate was largely based on the one Romney signed into state law in 2006.
“We modeled our bill ... to a large degree about what he did in Massachusetts,” Reid said. “Now he's trying to run from that.”
“If someone doesn't know who they are, they shouldn’t be president of the United States.”
While Reid’s embrace of Huntsman may not do the presidential hopeful much good with Republican primary voters, the onetime ambassador to China may not mind Reid’s reminder about Romney’s health care plan.
In a Huntsman video released Tuesday, the newly-minted candidate took a similar shot at Romney – although without mentioning the other GOP contender by name.
“Took on the tough. Health care. Did it right. No mandates,” the video’s narrator says. “Free market-based, not government-run. Ah, if others had only chosen that path. What does it take to do things right, to never flip, never flop?”
It’s worth noting that Huntsman was once open to the idea of an individual mandate, but it was ultimately not included in the health care bill passed in his home state.

His main fault was trying to compromise with Republicans who've shown they're willing to wreck the country if that's what it takes to make Obama a "one term president", as Sen. Mitch McConnell frankly stated was his Number 1 priority above everything else.

Is it 32 mpg Spanky? That's not so impressive. I own a 2011 Ford Focus and it's logging 30 MPG on a regular basis. Nice thing about the Ford is, I only paid 19K for it and it has A/C and is pretty much loaded. No leather though....
Isn't the Volt somewhere around 60K? Isn't the Volt an undersized compact? Isn't the Volt capable of only hauling 2 people? I don't know... the pricetag alone excludes me from looking in it's direction.

Check the UN Charter. Committing acts of war (bombing infrastructure, killing regular army personnel) is a declaration of war. I know, but we did sign it. Also, Congressional funding of hostilities is a declaration of war. No funds, no war. Verbiage has been declared "redundant". I propose this is why there has been no "official" declaration of war since 1945. Actions speak louder than words so to speak. Of course, the President is still governed by the WPA. Which, some argue, he is in violation of.

Ford will put two electrics on the US market, probably just before the end of the year one based on the focus platform. If they catch on in the next ten years electric cars will cut US oil consumption, 54% of oil we use is for transportation, only 10% of our electricity is generated by oil. If you are not burning gasoline, if you are running off the batteries, your cost per mile will be between 2 cents a mile and about 12 cents mile depending on your vehicles efficiency, and your cost for electricity and whether you charge your vehicle during peak demand hours (typically 10AM-10PM) or off peak, many people are charged less for off peak consumption. In any event there will more choices soon with American nameplates, and we will know in a couple of years what Americans think of electric cars.

Oh and don't forget that the heater and air conditioner, and radio and everything else drains the battery, which are actually lasting about half as long as adverted. Both in daily driving and in life span. Just check out Consumer reports.
Cause see Cold and heat eat batteries. Which have their own nasty pollution issues.

So back off - I'll stick with my V-8s. Heck, my S430, a lovely aluminum V-8, gets nearly 27 mpgs on the highway and has a cruising range of about 500 miles.

Forrest - How can it be true that electric cars will cut the consumption of fossil fuels by 54%? Do you know anything about physics? The electricity needed will have to come from somewhere. It takes energy to produce energy. Haven't you heard that our electric grid is pretty much near peak? Now, imagine all the electricity it will take to charge up the batteries. What's that going to do to the grid? It will overload it. The energy will have to come from somewhere.
People just don't think. Electricity isn't a free commodity. It's not produced from nothing. Have you taken a look at your electricity bill lately? Up much?
Another thing... electric cars are not that efficient. The batteries weigh the car down causing drag. Sure, the gasoline used will be less when converted inside the engine, but what about the recharging fees? Of course there are a lot of scientists a lot smarter than I am, but physics can't lie... politicians and ideologists can. We aren't being told the truth when it comes to electric vehicles... they do come with a huge cost.
Read my post I did not say they would cut consumption by 54%, I said we use 54% of the oil we consume for transportation, and only 10% of the oil we use is for generating electricity. I merely said oil consumption will be cut if we use less for transportation, we will need to generate electricity to replace the oil that was used for transportation, but we use mainly coal for that, and electricity can be produced in a variety of ways. oil is a finite resource and will never do anything but rise in price, which will eventually force many people into other sources of energy whether they are willing or not.

We can generate elctricity in a variety of ways, any where we want, as much as we want, you don't have to discover the next batch of electricity, we have control over it, we have no control over oil supplies.

It will rise in price when it's used for geo-political gain. I hate repeating myself over and over on these boards because for each person that says we don't have enough oil in this country alone to last us 500 or more years I have to run through the litany of things they don't know.
We have over 800 untapped oil finds in the Gulf of Mexico. The latest find shows there are about 150 billion barrels of oil in one field, untapped. How do I know this? I've seen the geo surveys of the Gulf of Mexico because a very good friend of mine is a directional driller. He showed them to me. Now you can choose not to believe me, but we have so much oil under our territory, it makes the middle east look like a thimble. We actually have enough oil to last this country over 500 years if we would tap into it. In 500 years, technology will develop where we won't need the oil any more. Our government will not allow us to use our resources. Liberals simply won't give up their fight and for every permit applied for, a liberal organization files a lawsuit. We can't even build another refinery because the liberals block it.
The Gulf of Mexico isn't the only source of oil. We haven't even explored much off the coast of California and the few surveys they have show an abundance of oil. Anwar has enough oil in it to last 50 years alone. The Rocky Mountian oil shale is said to contain approximately 300 billion barrels and the cost for retrieving it is about $25 per barrel.
Don't sit there and tell me we don't have enough oil when I know better. A lot of people know better but our government won't allow us to get it.

Brian when has oil gone down I started buying gas at 29 cents a gallon, it goes up no matter what they find no matter where they find it you will never see gas below $3.25 a gallon and after the next big jump it will go down a bit then it will hit $4.00 a gallon and so on. I seen it go to 50 cents a gallon then a buck, then $1.50, and so on it is a finite resource and it does not matter how much they find there is an endpoint, and if they find the largest well ever right here in the USA it will still be sold on the world market to the highest bidder unless you want the US government to take over the oil industry and tell them who and where and what they can sell it for. You tell me when are the oil companies going back to $2.00 dollars a gallon, or $2.50, they aren't, they never have yet and I have been buying gasoline a long time. I can look back and tell you when gas was cheaper, but I can never look back and remember when it was higher, and if you wait a hundred years I'll bet you a ham sandwich gas goes up, and up, and up. No matter what they find, no matter where they find it. It always has even when China used rickshaws.

I'm sure oil prices will be falling dramatically because you told me so Spanky, the oil companies will be giddy with generousity and will flood the market with cheap gas from shale oil. None of you have addressed all the issues that surround the Chevy Volt.
$40,000 is to much money for the average middle class guy who is laid off, about to be laid off, or took a McJob to try to survive the Obama Great Recession.
And that's if that were the total price. What is the price with a few common options?? $50,000?? $60,000?? And if the Federal Government is giving the buyer $7,500. as a tax credit just for buying the vehicle. Where does that money come from?? I thought we were broke. Is that morally acceptable to the liberals to have the rest of the taxpayers help pay for your new car??
What is the projected battery life of these cars?? Especially in the battery killing heat of the American Southwest?? How much to replace the battery pack. Arn't batteries a hazardous waste?? Don't they cost extra to dispose of?? What is the true resale value of this car??
How much up-stream polution is caused by producing the needed eletricity for this car??
The range of the batteries is about 40 miles. Is that with the headlights off, and the A/C off and the radio off?? Is that with no passengers, and no luggage??
Is the "plan" to have GE build thousands of charging stations accross the country so the few pitiful buyers of this lemon will have a place to charge their Obamamobile?? Then they can putt along for another 40 miles?? Will the former CEO of GE, who is now the White House Chief of staff, get rich off this scheme?? I'm sure he holds a ton of GE stock.

One thing that is a buyers maxim.....you never, and I mean never be the first one to buy new technology. Let others buy it and test it with their money. If it's a viable alternative, the price will always come down, and the quality will get better and better.
Of course electric cars will have their own set of problems and advantages many of the problems will be solved as they proliferate and there will be a whole aftermarket industry that will solve some problems and offer other innovations and opportunities for both business and consumer. I can tell you this, virtually every major car manufacturer foreign and domestic you have ever heard of, and many you have not, are producing electric models. Ford plans to have five different electric cars by 2013. All the car companies not just GM. Did Obama subsidize or cast a spell over every major car manufacturer in the world, because they are all offering multiple versions and models of Obamamobiles as you call them. I would think they believe they will sell some, and then some more. Only the future will tell, Sony thought the Betamax would rule they lost to VHS, somebody thought New Coke would be hit, somebody thought the Ryan Plan would wow em, and IBM did not think anybody would want a personal computer. What the heck would somebody do with a computer in their home?
I agree that you always pay a premium price to be the first to have new technologies, and may suffer through more flaws than later buyers who have benefit of the inevitable improvements that will be made. I don't think all these car companies are dead wrong they must have some firm orders or markets research that tells them somebody wants to try them. There are at least a dozen electrical manufacturers already producing charging stations. The chargers are built into the cars a charging station is just a power outlet, and you only need a "charging station" if you want to use a higher volt/amp circuit to reduce charge time. otherwise all you need is a 120 volt outlet on a 20 amp circuit.

Being from Detroit I have a great suggestion as to an alternative fuel source: ground up republicans.
We can stake them out on the shore of the ocean until the rising sea levels drown them, and then we can churn their corpses in giant meat grinders and figure out a way to condense that as a viable fuel source much as they produce biodiesel from chicken guts.
Except in the case of the chicken an intelligent animal is harvested. :o)

Battery life is what, about 4 years, then you recycle it, or refurbish it. Tech manuals are loaded with the procedures. BTW: Battery packs are rented,...not bought. Batteries are not a hazardous waste if you don't throw them out.

No, not really. One major retailer Meijer, a Republican-owned conglomerate out of Republican Grand Rapids, Michigan is building charging stations at its retail locations. Shoppers can plug in and charge while EV shoppers go in to shop for organic produce.
Not really. I think you'll find the projected range of our the Volt is a lot farther once you get off Fox's website. Our EV offering is going to go quite a bit farther.

Why that's an easy one Clara - I wanted to make sure I got a job after college. I got my college degree in Accounting. I did "dabble" in liberal arts. In fact I got all A's in all non core classes. My two favorite ones were Mexican American Studies, and Women's Studies.
Apparently there was an actual major in Women's Studies. Who would have thought? Oh and I am sure that they all got excellent and high paying jobs with that kick ass major. Oh mY!
Funny thing is there was far more writing in Law School. Sadly I was not top of my class. I worked through law school - wife and kids and all. But hey, it all worked out pretty good in the end.

I have to agree with Senator Reid, Mitt Romney is a man who does not know who he really is. It is one thing to change one's mind, it is another to change one's mind simply to fit a political party's litmus test. Romney has tried to explain RomneyCare by stating that he supported his Massachusetts health care reform legislation because it was popular but he doesn't think it is good for the country now because it isn't popular.
Romney's problem is not solely that he once had progressive views but rather wanting to be president has caused him to abandon his beliefs in the name of winning.....and he does a very poor job of convincing voters that he genuinely believes in his new found positions.

Reid also knows why a state that is not in the red could enact a healthcare plan for its citizens but the bankrupt United States of America cannot and should not do the same thing. Further, he should know that Romney took a pro-life stance on all legislation relating to that issue in Massachusetts. His only flip-flop was to campaign in liberal Massachusetts and say he was personally pro-life but Roe v. Wade was settled law that he wouldn't seek to overturn then govern taking pro-life positions.

Look I think it is pretty simple...... The Weiner should stay in place. Don't move the Weiner and instead all the others should resign. A good Weiner is always a staple commodity. You know where it is most of the time and you can depend on it. The other jack wagons are lost in the wilderness. Obama gets reelected in a walk. That's a good thing for all of America. He is showing his Presidential metal. Making wise and tough decisions and he is no shoot from the hip, yippee kayay cowboy. He deserves a second term.
