From NBC's Gina Gentilesco and Carrie Dann
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has been in sore need of a positive news story after losing most of his top staff in a mass resignation earlier this month.
This isn’t it.
The Associated Press reports another round of resignations from the campaign, this time from the Republican presidential hopeful’s campaign finance team. A spokesman for Gingrich confirms to NBC News that fundraising director Jody Thomas and fundraising consultant Mary Heitman have stepped down.
UPDATE: Spokesman R.C. Hammond tells NBC: "Newt 2012 continues reorganization which is a grass roots driven, substantive solution orientated campaign. We wish the members of the finance team who chose to leave the best, and continue forward as committed as ever."
Hammond stressed that while the women who left were important members of the team, there are a number of other people on their finance staff who remain committed to the campaign. Basically, it shouldn't be read as the "entire finance team" leaving.
Gingrich has said he’s determined to stay in the race.
Appearing this morning on the Laura Ingraham radio program, Gingrich laid out plans for a stepped-up campaign effort in Iowa and noted that he will soon deliver a speech about inefficiency in the Environmental Protection Agency.

To borrow a phrase from Newt, I guess his finance team "loved their country so much", the left for a more attractive campaign.
Hey Carrie Dann and the rest of the crack team at First Read - You know who else is stepping down?
ATF head Melson. I know, right - totally 'unexpected.'
You all got any info as to why?
Our gal Bev knows.
Or would you all just rather we cut and paste something on the subject?
Bev - what does Move On got on the subject?
Guess Castilla's credit card statements arrived.
What's the moral?
You can't play with other people's money unless other people give you some money.
Gingrich actually has the money to self-finance for a long time. However it's highly unlikely his wife would allow that. She's using the campaign as a marketing tool for the family's TV productions, books, and forthcoming documentary. Newt's using it to feed his insatiable ego.
Newt was not at any time a serious contender for the nomination. It's all about the money and the headlines.
Grand opening....Grand closing.
Good God...this is news?
Who cares?
Apparently Spanky has no defense, explanation, or even facts that he'd like to face, so he attempts to go on the attack as if attacking others is going to help Newt.
Obviously Newt is mishandling campaign funds AGAIN, which is illegal and his team is finding out about it and they're jumping ship because they don't want to get indicted for what they already know are crimes.
Like it or not, it is what it is.
Poor Newt...if he doesn't win the nomination and have to work really hard for his country, how is he ever going to find his next wife?
I like Newt, he's absolutely brilliant in all matters of government, but as a person, I think he is just to much for most folks, and completely un-electable.
But now he just reminds me of the Monty Python Knight who had his legs and arms cut off and is still picking a fight with the guy who's kicking his butt.
I assume you're referring to the guy who was hip deep in the Fast and Furious program, and who got regular briefings about what was going on.
You know, the same guy who was originally appointed a US Attorney by Ronald Reagan, and who was appointed to a position supervising hundreds of attorneys at DOJ in 2007 by George W. Bush's then attorney general, whoever that was.
Or didn't you know? If not, check my post to you on the last thread.
Don't you just wonder what he was up to at DOJ? LoL
He's staying in the race just to hawk is books and tapes. How pathetic.
What's all the fuss? Anyone with average intelligence could tell from Day 1 that Newt did not have the "fire in the belly" required for such a campaign.....so why comment on what is common knowledge since Newt even announced it and as if this outcome was not inevitable. It is much ado about nothing and you know it just like any mention of Sarah Palin......let's move on shall we and discuss things that are relevant...like the shambles our ecocnomy is in with no light at the end of the tunnel as of today?
Well, it is news. The people who care are the ones who like to be informed when they enter the voting booth.
Mozzie - first of all I am guessing you can't vote in a Republican Primary. Second, Highly doubtful Gingrich will be on any ballots in a voting booth.
That is why this isn't news. Just more fodder for the nasty left.
Nasty left ? ? ? That's a joke, right ? ? ?
Bawawawawawawawawaw Very funny and oh, so original.
Because the right are so "fair & balanced".
Am - I am referring to the Gun Walker program, that although had been around for a number of years did not start pumping guns into Mexico until the Spring of '09.
You know cause they had to make Caulderon and Hillary look good. See they want a free flow of illegals TO American, but they want to limit those evil black guns FROM America. So they figured they'd let a bunch "walk" into Mexico where they could literally be pulled off dead drug runners and cartel members.
Then they could"trace" those evil guns back to us. Would have worked but for the damned kids!
See AM some of the people may have been around for a while, but this debacle got going under Holder. Just sit back and watch, this one is going to get mighty ugly.
American Girl- you are making about as much sense as Bev. Not good girl, not good.
Let's see Barbour, Newt, & Huck gone== Romney feeling the heat from the Military Industrial Complex, Do you guys have anything? How about the overweight criminal from New Jersey or the secessionist in Texas? I have a blind Labrador Retriever that has greater intellect and insight than any puppet you guys have floated out there. Who's next? Dan Quayle?
White Collar - Yes, its news. Just more bad news for the Repukes. What a bunch of clowns!
Always - Can't argue with you about the Newt's unelectability. That pretty much describes the pack of losers on the (R) side don't you agree?
The grinch thinks he's a viable player in the world scene,IN HIS DREAMS ONLY,the only party being taking for a ride is the tea/bag party...EVERYONE ELSE,INCLUDING HIS WIFE KNOWS HE FULL OF SH!T.........as the world turns.........gingrich....GIVE ME A BRAKE!......NEXT! Obama/Biden 2012
Spanky,
Controller Chiang said today he has blocked pay for lawmakers, rejecting his own party's spending plan as insufficient to satisfy a voter-approved law on timely budgets.
He said that numbers in the budget didn't add up. It was $1.85 billion out of balance.
How soon do you think they will submit a revised budget? Lost wages of $400 per day, plus the $142 daily for living and travel expenses. What do you think, by the end of the day?
Yes, exactly. The Fast and Furious branch of the Gun "Runner" program. And April, 2009. That's when your boy Melson, the Bush appointee from DOJ, arrived at ATF, trailing all of his Bush-era experience, morality, and ethics along in his glowing wake.
By the way, until a minute or two ago, when I happened to point out the Bush connection, you were worried about Melson, not Holder.
I sure do hope they also look under the rocks Melson left at DOJ. Now, was that Gonzales or Mukasey who needs to worry about what might turn up?
Paul F
Love the metaphor,..."It's just a flesh wound!"
PS. Is this a job lost or a job created? anyone?
Ooops. Her name is Calista, not Castilla! LMAO!!
I'm not sure AM. But the good news is now that the investigation is going full bore, we are sure to find out.
Melson is toast, I don't care who appointed him. Holder's got a lot of explaining to do. Should be fun, no?
And make no mistake the Obama body count has already begun. The wheels on the bus....
If Congress didn't investigate Bush's relationship with Bin Laden even though they knew the two grew up together, or the fact that the 2 oil men in the White House (Bush & Cheney) just happen to make a horrible mistake of invading and overthrowing the 2nd largest oil rich nation in the world based on a pack of lies that they made up all by themselves, then I really don't think you're going to have any luck (no matter how many millions of American Taxpayer Dollars you plan to spend) on having an invesitgation of the Obama Administration just to see if you can find something to investigate.
I have a really naive question for many of you. For the record, I'm a Democrat although I don't agree with everything liberal and have some libertarian views. Complex maybe, or just perhaps I'm a real person instead of a red or blue paper cutout. Anyone who is pure left, or pure right isn't bothering to form their own opinions, in my view.
This thing with the DOJ. I don't know what's going on but it smells incredibly bad. Here's my questions: Why is the need to investigate and understand this thing a political issue? If wrong was done, everyone should want it investigated and dealt with. Same applies to both sides. Jon Stewart, whiom I like simply because he makes me laugh, had an interesting line in an unedited (note the concept, Fox) interview with Rachel Maddow. Incidentally he is not a big fan of MSNBC or any of the 24 hour news shows. In fairness he said that MSNBC is really not a 24 hour news networks because, "you know, you've got the prison shows". He asked an interesting question which is why everything has to be blue vs red in every case. Why can't it be corrupt vs non-corrupt? Fill in your blanks.
Politics is no longer about governance. It's about politics above all else. And corruption. The heads of our government get their marching orders from the same big money/lobbyists, no matter which side of the aisle they're on.
thetotas
I love CA politics; more corrupt and more useless than the Feds. Prop 25, as you know, was a Democratic plan to remove the roadblocks from passing Democratic budget policies without the majority vote necessary. The even wrote into the law, the oversight of balancing the budget by the State Comptroller.
The law was inacted, the budget late as ususal, with the ususal 'smoke and mirrors' approach to balancing a budget to keep their pay and per diem. Now that this has been found to be an unbalanced budget and not in agreement with Prop 25, the legislators are running around like chickens with their heads off, threatening to sue the State over their loss of income.
I can't understand why, for it is their original proposal. The Governor vetoed it after being critical of it. The Comptroller ruled correctly as Prop 25 outlines.
The good of this is a forcefull attempt to create a balanced budget with an end of the various wasteful programs of this party that has been in control.
Too bad the Federal government can't have such a program. maybe we could see real government again. Well, real govenment vs the party government we seem to have today.
The only question left is when Gingrinch will admit that he is not a candidate. Or won't his wife let him?
HAHAHAHA!
Reminds me of fleas jumping off a dead dog!
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
Yeah, like independents and democrats sick of Obama.
Woim
I'd love to call myself an independent Democrat again. The problem is the Republicans will eventually nominate someone so far to the right that only Claus Von Bulow would be a less attractive candidate.
Feisty - EVERYTHING seems to "remind you of fleas jumping off a dead dog"! .....Like.....Hope and Change!,...Change we can believe in!....Yes we can! .....and my all time favorite "The Summer of Recovery" 2010!
It could be worse though...................on second thought..................no it couldn't!
Oh yes it could be worse........McCain and Palin could be running the country....it could be WAY worse!
Or even worse Gingrich/Coulter 2012. The Hate ticket
Spanky, I am sure you were aware that the ATF doesn't have an actual director....you knew that right?!?!?!? The guy was interim because the GOP has blocked nearly ALL of the Presidents appointments. Yep no ATF, no Deputy Director of the Justice Department, no head of the EPA.....go figure. I also noticed that your posts seem to be crushed by the community quite often.... Just sayN Spanksit!!!!
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
I said:
Yeah, like independents and democrats sick of Obama.
You and your friends can collapse my comments, I'll repost. There is nothing even remotely dirty or malicious about it. Strictly political. Too many people agreed? Too bad.
How about restoring it FR???
So much for free speech.
Yes, but the jokes will cost you,...
Depends on how funny you want them to be.
Occassionally, when the moon is in the quiet phase a pretty neutral and agreeable topic comes up and we all slap knees and pat backs; but mostly it's Snark On Snark Off.
Do you have Paypal? LOL.
When your finance team leaves, and your fundraising falls short, does that make you a "foodstamp candidate" rather than a "paycheck candidate?"
I don't know Amy. Maybe ask Obama.
http://www.businessinsider.com/obamas-fund-raising-quarter-big-miss-2011-5
Last week, they got about 900 people in a venue that could hold 2200. Tickets were $44.
Seems the big dollar fundraisers-$38K per person- are not selling out.
Obama does have one advantage over other candidates, though. He can tack a speech abut his "success" in creating jobs on to a fundraising trip, andmonly pay what amounts to bus fare for the trip.
It's perfectly legal, by the way.
Does nothing to make it palatable.
So you have nothing, then eh, Joe? (chuckle)
Look at these fools tacitly trying to defend Gingrich by their usual distraction motif. Gingrich is a turd. Case closed.
Cost to run for president in 2012? - $1 billion
Cost to be Newt Gingrich? - priceless!
I guess this is one way of being able to say you're creating job opportunities......
how much more bad press can he keep slithering away from before he is willing to admit his candidacy was a sham from the start?
Tut, tut. You really have to admire the bravery of it. Newt will not abandone ship until the last campaign dollar is spent.
Well....here comes divorce #4 from the Stepford princess
Tim, Newt will have to find a staffer to have an affair first then comes divorce #4. This would be difficult since they are all quitting or have quit.
"Racked up some large travel bills"? Did the scumbag pay for his Aegean Isles cruise with campaign funds? This guy is a piece of work, hang it up, man! No body wants you, and no body's going to keep sending you money, unless it's his "publishers" pushing his new book. This is beyond a joke.
Newt losing employees looks like Rats fleeing a sinking ship. I wonder how long it will be before his wife fires him.
As soon as he's diagnosed with cancer.
Hmmm, I wonder how long it will be 'til the current wife dumps HIM for someone who can get her to where she wants to be.
You mean the woman with the Jane Jetson hairdo?
Okay, I gotta ask.....are you from Uncle Sam? Uncle Kracker? Uncle Vanya? Or the United Network Command for Law Enforcement? (Open Channel D!)
Lol Ursula..ya that hairdo is jacked up
funny; but somehow JANE pulled it off, not so much with Calista.
Maybe his current mistress, can step up as fundraiser. .... :)
She's more like a line-item expense. Miss Elaine Eos office supplies.
Uh Oh, sounds like it's time for another cruise for him and the little woman!
Sounds like Newt might want to think about getting a real job rather than just spouting mindless blabberings of what he thinks of history and regurgitating what has already happened and then spouting that he has some great idea. Looks like his old lady too might leave him next. Who wants to be with a loser. Now that would be funny. Finally people are recognizing a loser when it presents itself, early this time. His wife probably has him trapped in a pit right now saying "It puts the lotion on its skin, or else it gets CNN again"
His campaign staff is running faster than Hindenderg passengers and yet you STILL see the ANGRY REPUBLICANS supporting the guy by trying to shout down other people. You all know the definition of insanity, right? Doing the same thing over and over and over again and expecting diffeent results. You've heard of that? Check your posts and see if that isn't what you're doing. and then, if you still have a live brain cell, do yor party a favor and go back someone who could possibly win becuase this guy ain't it. When his staff resigns in droves you really need to start thinking about trying to help your party rather than just angrily snapping at anyone who doesn't support this train wreck of a candidate.
"Appearing this morning on the Laura Ingraham radio program, Gingrich laid out plans for a stepped-up campaign effort in Iowa and noted that he will soon deliver a speech about inefficiency in the Environmental Protection Agency."
Uhhhh, is the EPA losing staff hand over foot? Sweet Father man, you can't even keep your Staff together. People just don't step down from viable Presidential campaigns...brotha just stop and look in the friggin mirror for a second. It's over Newt. It's over.
Your want vs. the Country's want are different. You want to be the President. The Country does not want you to be the President. It is just that simple. If you're as important as you believe you are step out and see how hard the remaining candidates push for your endorsement.
Please tell Callista to just chill....girlfriend is looking a little stiff as of late.
I was thinking the same thing. "He will soon deliver a speech about inefficiency in the EPA." Maybe he should study inefficiency in the Gingrich presidential campaign for awhile instead.
allen and Jim, I was struck by the word "soon deliver a speech"? does this mean "as soon as I write it,soon as I find a venue where I will get paid , or as soon as..."
There goes Spanky and Woim's money! Down the drain! Reading about the Republican/Teabaggers is better than watching a comedy show!
Tommy,
I also enjoy Jon Stewart taking FOX apart on its "fair and balanced" report on the Tea Party.
oh, Newt, give it up already! You're just embarrassing yourself.
I should think Newt is experiencing what heart break feels like........you know, after jilting three marriages himself.
Like rats jumping off a sinkins ship...
I see RATS and a sinking SHIP. No----Wait----It is just Newt Gingerich's campaign!!!!!
toast
noun
1
a : sliced bread browned on both sides by heat b : food prepared with toasted bread
2 Newt Gingrich
Yep, stick a fork in him. This amphibian seems well done.
Newt Gingrich is now officially the Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail:
King Arthur: Now, stand aside, worthy adversary!
Black Knight: 'Tis but a scratch!
King Arthur: A scratch? Your arm's off!
Black Knight: No, it isn't!
King Arthur: Well, what's that then?
Black Knight: I've had worse.
Classic movie !!!!..How about the John Cleese charatcher claiming he got turned into...A NEWT!!! by the witch
Luckily for Cleese, he got better.
at's merely a flesh wound!
Callista, Callista, why is it this time that it's just the women jumping ship???
Two strikes Callista.... three strikes and you will be OUT TOO!!!
.
Too many other decent choices who aren't personal and professional train wrecks. I'm sure the senior staff finally understood neither they, the party nor the public could stomach Newt or the Blond Bomb, Callista. The candidate's message could be spot on (I'm not saying this is the case here), but no one listens when all the drama drowns out the message. Time to move on and move out Newt.
Gingrich finance team quit because..they were sick of writing checks out everyday for his wife's hairdressers with campaign funds!
I think 15 years ago he'd got away with making a good income off his stupid books etc; in the guise of running for office. He still can't handle a relationship without being the fool. Thanks internet...
