It appears that Robert, as so many writing in, are not literate nor are they able to articulate their thoughts in any logical manner. So they resort to calling President Obama "boy", along with other derogatory names. They claim people are calling on Justice Clarence Thomas to recuse himself from cases, due to his color. Both of these statements are intolerable and unacceptable in 2011 in this country. We are not in the deep south, owners of plantations and slaves. We are so beyond that, supposedly. Any member of the legal profession will tell you that just as doctors take an oath which begins, "First, do no harm...", attorneys also take an oath. It is an oath espousing ethics and promising to avoid "the appearance of impropriety..." Not just impropriety, but even the appearance of that. As a prosecutor in the largest office in this country, I am held to the highest standard. And, if there is doubt in my own mind, I disclose. Better to disclose and have it be deemed by a court to be of no consequence, than to retain information wrongly, be found out and have it appear to be worse. That is the problem that Clarence Thomas, who walks in Alito's shadow, has. Alito himself has refused to recuse himself even when he shared a duck blind with a party who had a case pending before the USSCT. Thomas deliberately withheld information about his wife's substantial income and other unsavory financial dealings of his own.

It is a quirk of the legal profession that, once named to the bench, judges are no longer deemed attorneys. But ethics of a bench officer are foremost, along with their legal background, ability to form opinions and relate the law to the facts at hand. Unfortunately, a number of the people--specifically Justices Alito, Thomas and others--are unable or unwilling to perform their duties and responsibilities in an ethical manner. They denigrate the offices which they hold. For those of you who do not comprehend this, they lower the standard. Clarence Thomas has written one opinion in all these years. ONE. He is known to never question anyone arguing a case before the Supreme Court. He just sits there. If I were to guess, I would think it is his clerks who sum up the case and give him a heads up before the actual vote. As an attorney, I would be ashamed to have clerked for him and have that on my resume. I would be a laughingstock.

So, for those of you who have been quibbling over jobs, name-calling, nit-picking, jabbing at each other: You remind me of dung beetles, fighting over the most stupid topics and veering off the subject, quickly ending up at the lowest common denominator. And all your mindless quibbling does not matter one whit. Because people of color are the majority. And once we start voting as a block, we call the shots. Fight over your dung, go for it.
