Congress: Back to work, but without Weiner

The AP: “Congress returns to work on Monday, but at least one lawmaker won't be there. Rep. Anthony Weiner starts this week on a temporary leave of absence, in treatment for an undisclosed disorder at an undisclosed location. He spent most of last week embroiled in a sexting scandal.:

More: “Weiner has acknowledged exchanging messages and photos that ranged from sexually suggestive to explicit, with several women online. The latest to surface appeared on the gossip website TMZ... The photos posted Sunday were purportedly taken in the House members' gym and show a shirtless Weiner with a towel around his waist and his hand on his crotch. TMZ said the photos were sent online to at least one woman."

The New York Post: “New Weiner photos taken in House gym could be an ethics breach.”

The New York Daily News’ cover today: “Gym randy.”

“The stock market fell again Friday, marking a six-week slump. That’s bad news for investors — and bad timing for Dallas Rep.Pete Sessions and others who want to transform Social Security by creating investment accounts for workers,” the Dallas Morning News writes.

Over the weekend, "top Democratic leaders -- including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Steve Israel -- … called for embattled Rep. Anthony Weiner's (D) to resign from Congress."

Politico: “It seems like the climate is right for No Child Left Behind to move through Congress this summer, and yet the law is still on a course, itself, to be left behind in 2011. Even though House Speaker John Boehner is a longtime champion of the law, President Barack Obama recently has pushed for reform and Senate negotiators have made progress on a tentative deal, a series of political realities make reauthorization unlikely anytime soon.”

The headline, Congress gets back to work made me laugh. I wasn't aware that they were working as no significant economic legislation has been passed.

BTW..Someone should ask why Vitter has not been prosecuted for breaking the law by frequenting prostitutes. Why hasn't there been an Ethics Committee investigation?

That's still a crime in Washington, DC.

$175,000 a year salary, best health care coverage bar none, lifetime pension for 5 years service, months of paid vacation per year, and you can't be fired even when you admit you have committed a crime. These people have some gall wanting to deprive a teacher or a highway worker of their collective bargaining rights. No collective bargaining agreement has ever come close to this, not even the NFL players. I say we deprive Congress of their collective bargaining rights, (no need to pay all the lazy slackers the same as the people that do the work), they can individually cut a deal with their district, they might have to pick up their own health care costs or be responsible and fund their own retirement. Hell at least in states where republican governors are eliminating collective bargaining rights, the representatives of those states should live by the laws of the land. I know republicans are all about individual states rights, well prove it live by your states laws and chip in for your health care and retirement, take drug tests, and get your sorry butt fired for crimes committed on the job.

Yes, they are back to work. As long as there is still a middle class to take from and more money to be made by the super-rich, Congress has more work to do.

I am furious with the wimpy, "let's just give in" Democrats' call for Anthony Weiner to resign. Patrick of Salt Lake City is absolutely right to ask about Vitter. Let's note that Louisiana Senator David Vitter's phone number was found in the phone records of The D. C. Madam (Deborah Jeane Palfrey) in 2007. Palfrey was convicted for running a prostitution service. Vitter, at first, denied any involvement with her and only came "clean" when Hustler magazine was about to publish results of their investigation. Phone records revealed that Palfrey's service had called Vitter five times, two of which during House roll call votes. Vitter is still in Congress, and Republicans have never called for him to resign. He publicly apologized for his indiscretions and stated that God, along with his wife, had forgiven him. How does he know that God forgave him? Because he is, of course, one of those family values/I speak with God on daily basis politicians. He is also one of the Republicans who called for President Clinton to resigned due to the Monica Lewinski affair.

So, how can a hypocritical nasty piece of work like Vitter not be expected to resign from Congress while Weiner, who apparently did not have actual sex with anyone, is expected to resign? The answer is that the Congressional Democrats are wimps and are willing to sacrifice Weiner for political gain. The irony is that the more they call for him to resign, the more they keep the story going.

What the Dems need to do is state uncategorically that they will call for Anthony Weiner to resign, if the Repubs will call for David Vitter to resign. Link the two. Get Vitter's sex with prostitutes right up there on the front page with Weiner's stupid texting of half-lewd photos. Make it so that reporters can't get away with not asking Repubs about Vitter, if the Repubs bring up Weiner. The story will go away, because Repubs can't stand being placed under the same lamp.

And by the way, John Boehner's joke about Weiner during his commencement address at Ohio State University this weekend was juvenile (dare I say, sophomoric) and offensive: "When you begin to go out there to ask people to vote for you, they're probably not going to vote for you if they don't know your name. My name looks like 'beener,' 'bonner,' 'boner.' "Thank God it's not Weiner."

Progressive Power is not shocked at all by the poltical response of the "Gross Odd People" (GOP), and the "Really Not Competent" (RNC). They are used to politically puking out their famous "double standards." Meaning they have no standards at all. If Weiner was a Republican? He would get the the same poltical treatment as "Vulger Vitter." The "Attack and Distract" political strategy is not new for the GOP/RNC. Now the GOP/RNC "Summer Circus Of Clowns" will be making the rounds. Again! The childish mentally disturbed behavior of "Bonehead Boehner" still goes on. Again! Then his ADD friend "Crazy Cantor" is up to old tricks of forgiving some and politically destroying others. Now "Vikie Vitter" the little man who needs his trusty purple pills to get it up. Should have been out of political office a long time ago, and he was given a pass by his fellow Gross Odd People (GOP). Vitter must go! Then Weiner can go! Until that happens? Weiner stays in Congress to continue his defense of the Middle Class, the Working Poor, the disabled, and the elderly. No story here America!
