“Bedeviled by a bleak employment picture, President Barack Obama is pushing for more private sector hiring while seeking to protect his own job during a two-day domestic trip that aims to raise his political profile in two key states and with an important Hispanic constituency,” per the AP. “In North Carolina on Monday, the president will press for more jobs in targeted industries, including tourism and green energy sectors. Later in the day, he will attend three fundraisers in donor-rich Miami. He will end his travels Tuesday in Puerto Rico, a visit considered essential as he courts the Puerto Rican vote in the mainland, especially in Florida.”
The New York Times writes how Obama is trying to woo back Wall Street, as it relates to 2012 and fundraising. “The president’s top financial industry supporters say they are confident that the support Mr. Obama needs will ultimately be there, despite the financial industry’s unhappiness over his efforts to tighten regulation of their businesses. But it is clear that those supporters will have to work much harder to win over the financial services industry than they did in 2008, before Wall Street’s bust, the subsequent clashes over policy and the sometimes bitter personal differences that lingered afterward.”
“Profits at American companies are poised to be one of the few bright spots in the U.S., helping to steady the faltering recovery,” Bloomberg writes. “Earnings will climb an average 10 percent a year through 2013, more than three times quicker than the economy, after what has already been the fastest rebound since the late 1940s, JPMorgan Chase & Co. projects.”
Tee time: The golf foursome later this week will be President Obama, Vice President Biden, Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

Companies are not going to hire anyone until the Republicans take office, period! This is their way of getting Pres. Obama out of office. Democrats needed to be more forceful when they had a majority in the house instead of letting the GOP fillabuster everything. Now it is too late.
GOP leadership clearly stated to the press that economic recovery was NOT their priority. History will show their number one goal was to end the Obama presidency, even if it cost America's future.
At this critical time of recovery from a Great Recession, the worst in half a century:
~ the top 2% still feel entitled to bonus Bush tax breaks to the tune of $860,000 per week. Republican congressionals threatened to shut down the government unless they got what they wanted. They are holding the US and global financial system to ransom over raising the US debt ceiling, all in the name of tax cuts for the wealthy/short-term profits for their corporate sponsors.
~ GOP proposes to end Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Headstart, cut $830,000 per year to WIC for Mothers and newborns, cut thousands of public sector jobs and voted to cut food stamps and unemployment benefits. Their aim is to dismantle and privatize wherever they can & shift those monies over to corporations, millionaires and billionaires.
~ GOP's idea of economic recovery is to shift financial burdens to 98% of Americans. Pawlenty's plan would cost $7.8Trillion and he's for slashing taxes even further for corporations. Have to check again, but either Santorum/Pawlenty or both are for ending Social Security.
Correction above: Bush tax breaks to the wealthy cost us $860million per week.
Further to my points above:
1. Reported 2 hours ago on First Read, Pawlenty said, "The focus here is to get Barack Obama out of the White House". (Jobs and the economy?)
2. About GOP and the debt ceiling, from CAP's Melissa Boteach and Seth Hanlon:
"For months, Republicans have been playing games with the nation's debt ceiling, threatening to not raise it unless they receive various items off of an ever-shifting list of demands, including cuts to Social Security or cockamamie Constitutional amendments. The GOP even held a sham-vote on increasing the debt limit this week, explicitly designing it to fail and then using that failure to up their calls for concessions on the part of Democrats.
As we've been documenting, failure to raise the debt ceiling could have several adverse consequences, including threatening the fragile housing marketand wiping out economic growth (depending on the duration of the stalemate).
On that note, CAP's Michael Ettlinger and Michael Linden found that failing to raise the debt limit for two months could cause a bigger GDP drop than that experienced during the Great Recession of 2008: given that about 321,000 households reported incomes of more than $1 million in the most recent year for which there are data from the Internal Revenue Service, that means the Bush tax cuts provide millionaires with about $860 million in tax breaks every week—more than enough to stave off the $833 million in proposed cuts to WIC."
companies want to wait for republicans so that they canfigure out how long thier tax breaks will last also they want this healthcare montrosity out of the way, another words they want a country that is buss. friendly not start a buss. at your own risk because the dems. want your profits and want to make sure that thier union cronies take thier fair,no no no I mean unfair money Hopefully they will be able to afford to start a buss.,by this I mean the cost of these green changeover prices, just think 20.00 for a liht bulb, how are regular people goint to be able to light thier own homes, just wait and watchhome robberies will go up then we will need more police officers to patrol neighborhoods whitch will take more fuel for there cruisers whitch are not electric so how is this saveing energy, unfortinately the pres is not out for the enviroment he is out to put money in his pockets because he has stocin g.e. go figure ,
Green energy is an incredible waste and boondoggle ! Green is red...statist crony capitalsm , Obama allies like GE get lucrative govt contracts, the public gets blackouts .
Why doesnt the media do its job and investigate Obama corruption, instead of dumpster diving Palin's emails?
National Review:
Since President Obama signed the stimulus bill in early 2009, Washington has spent over $100 billion of it “transforming” America to a green electric grid. In Michigan alone, hundreds of millions have been distributed to rich utilities for upgrades to “smart grid” systems that enable better power management to accommodate electric cars; to rich multinationals like Dow and LGChem to produce batteries; and to wind-energy projects run by rich institutions like Dow Corning, Michigan Aerospace, and the University of Michigan
And on Thursday, the city of Detroit — one of the nation’s largest and poorest cities — lost power.
Is there a better metaphor for the Obama administration’s utopian transformation of America than the Detroit power blackout of 2011?
Like Obama nationally, Michigan has ignored its biggest city’s power infrastructure and instead poured money into quixotic wind projects on Lake Michigan and Lake Huron to feed the state’s Renewable Power Standard and the ideological demands of Washington
Hey Obama, after your NC stop, head on over to SC and convince those folks of your laser-like-focus on jobs -- make sure you tell those that could be working at Boeing; and try to weave your love for unions into the pep talk as I'm sure the folks will love that.
Anybody but Obama in 2012.
Wow -- no comments here from the usual liberals... I suppose not as no one can spin this to make Obama look good.
How irionic would it be if Obama loses in 2012 due to Obamascam... one can only hope.
Bob, You made a really good point. I am very wary of a few corporations controlling our energy. Thanks for the information.
Us "usual liberals" won't ever change your minds. Funny how all your problems started on January 20, 2009. Until then, we all lived in a capitalist Utopia.
We've got better things to do...like moving to green energy...;-))
bi,
nope - all my problems didn't start on Jan 20, 09... things have just taken a turn for the worse.
If Obama would veto Obamascam, keep its nose out of business (like Boeing), scrap the 1000s of new regulations, etc. I might consider voting for him (and overlooking his arrogance - which is why I didn't vote for him in 2008). As for green energy... keep in mind that we have a country to power and billions of pieces of equipment/machinery to maintain (think oil)... wind will not cut it.
Let's get the economy going then we can fool around with other energy types.
Oil won't cut it either, at least not in the long term. Finite resources diminish eventually. It's not a good idea to wait until it runs out to start figuring out how to replace it.
I assume, then, that you were railing about the Bush wars, deficits, lost jobs, and TARP? Uh...color me skeptical. But whatever. History did not start on 1/20/2009, despite what a lot of people now think.
True. But, how do we go about (and let's say (for example) we revive the steel industry) supplying high current to the plants and what would you like the machines to run on - meaning to cool and reduce friction?
Yep - going into Iraq was a bad move. I will say that for 9/11, I was glad Bush was Pres and not Gore. I seem to recall (overall) things were pretty good (I was better off) as unemployment was under 5%. Things did get off course in 2006 or so. From there it went downhill. We haven't recovered and are in worse shape now.
We need a new approach. Obama and his academics can't handle it (forget about Bush as Obama owns it now). Of course he is working with his BFF Immelt and Daley but that doesn't seem to be going well either.
Keep moving forward Mr. President! Progressive Power will be watching and supporting you all the way to poltical victory in 2012. The GOP/RNC Summer Circus Of Clowns will be following right behind you Mr. President. They will also be behind you in the polls Mr. President. Again! The GOP/RNC poltical elephants do not move too quickly, and their economic antics only upset those who are disabled, elderly, the middle class, and the working poor. During the GOP/RNC Summer Debates Of The Clowns. The circus music and poltical carnvals will be in full puking force. That is fact! President Obama will take the White House in 2012, and the Democrats will win back both houses of Congress. The GOP/RNC Elephants will be too busy trying not to lead their fellow Tea Beggers off the political cliff.
Good greif, no one beleives any of that - including you.
I'm sure Obama will win South Carolina since he is preventing 1000s of new jobs being created by Boeing all because of some stupid union nonsense.
The good news is the Reps have a much higher probability of gaining the Senate then the Dems do of keeping it.
krell--as a matter of fact, many of us believe. we believe that the republican party has lost any vestige of honor and concern for the nation and its people so they can get their big bosses more dough. We believe that the republicans are so crazed about President Obama they will destroy the financial future of the country if it will only bring him down. we believe it won't bring him down. We believe enough people have seen behind the curtain now that they have revealed their agenda to destroy workers' rights, destroy Medicare and Social Security. BTW--not to request a bio--but I always wonder when someone is as rabid as you if they realize where sick leave, paid vacation, workers' comp, unemployment insurance came from. Did your parents or other significant elders in your life benefit from Medicare and Social Security? Do you now or expect to in future? Perhaps you are being paid not to grow something. Government does things that benefit us all and needs to do more because it is done more efficiently than charity.

Opa,
Rabid - me? I make a comment about union nonsense... I read where those union folks in WA are not in any jeopardy of losing their jobs. So what's the issue?
Sorry dude, but my opinion of unions was never really high (public anyway) and especially after the chaos in WI - I have 0 respect for them. Those pro-union zombies that disrupted a special olympics ceremony in WI is inexcusable - and I'm supposed to support unions? What a joke.
Look, I know something about the past but so what? I was unemployed for 6 months, I found a job and guess what? I was offered more than $3/hour and I have weekends off and am not getting whipped - and aren't there pages and pages of laws to make sure that's the case? There's no way I would ever pay someone to speak on my behalf about my skills (electrical engineer).
Nope - my parents have been dead for almost 30 years -- and I know of no one on Medicare or (as far as I know, SS) so I can't relate. Nope - I am not my own business.
I didn't say anything about Gov't or the size of it or what it does.
We'll see - after Nov 2010, I personally don't see any probability of the Dems taking the House or Senate but time will tell.
As for your quote "many of us believe"... I only know of 1 person that fully supports Obama (just like Eugene Robinson and Matthews) regardless of what Obama does. He could be on Matthew's set and vomit on the table and those 2 nitwits would agree that Obama "did the right thing".
Now - tell me again how/why I am rabid?
