GOP leadership clearly stated to the press that economic recovery was NOT their priority. History will show their number one goal was to end the Obama presidency, even if it cost America's future.

At this critical time of recovery from a Great Recession, the worst in half a century:

~ the top 2% still feel entitled to bonus Bush tax breaks to the tune of $860,000 per week. Republican congressionals threatened to shut down the government unless they got what they wanted. They are holding the US and global financial system to ransom over raising the US debt ceiling, all in the name of tax cuts for the wealthy/short-term profits for their corporate sponsors.

~ GOP proposes to end Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Headstart, cut $830,000 per year to WIC for Mothers and newborns, cut thousands of public sector jobs and voted to cut food stamps and unemployment benefits. Their aim is to dismantle and privatize wherever they can & shift those monies over to corporations, millionaires and billionaires.

~ GOP's idea of economic recovery is to shift financial burdens to 98% of Americans. Pawlenty's plan would cost $7.8Trillion and he's for slashing taxes even further for corporations. Have to check again, but either Santorum/Pawlenty or both are for ending Social Security.

1. Reported 2 hours ago on First Read, Pawlenty said, "The focus here is to get Barack Obama out of the White House". (Jobs and the economy?)

2. About GOP and the debt ceiling, from CAP's Melissa Boteach and Seth Hanlon:

"For months, Republicans have been playing games with the nation's debt ceiling, threatening to not raise it unless they receive various items off of an ever-shifting list of demands, including cuts to Social Security or cockamamie Constitutional amendments. The GOP even held a sham-vote on increasing the debt limit this week, explicitly designing it to fail and then using that failure to up their calls for concessions on the part of Democrats.

As we've been documenting, failure to raise the debt ceiling could have several adverse consequences, including threatening the fragile housing marketand wiping out economic growth (depending on the duration of the stalemate).

If Obama would veto Obamascam, keep its nose out of business (like Boeing), scrap the 1000s of new regulations, etc. I might consider voting for him (and overlooking his arrogance - which is why I didn't vote for him in 2008). As for green energy... keep in mind that we have a country to power and billions of pieces of equipment/machinery to maintain (think oil)... wind will not cut it.

Let's get the economy going then we can fool around with other energy types.

Oil won't cut it either, at least not in the long term. Finite resources diminish eventually. It's not a good idea to wait until it runs out to start figuring out how to replace it.

True. But, how do we go about (and let's say (for example) we revive the steel industry) supplying high current to the plants and what would you like the machines to run on - meaning to cool and reduce friction?

Yep - going into Iraq was a bad move. I will say that for 9/11, I was glad Bush was Pres and not Gore. I seem to recall (overall) things were pretty good (I was better off) as unemployment was under 5%. Things did get off course in 2006 or so. From there it went downhill. We haven't recovered and are in worse shape now.

We need a new approach. Obama and his academics can't handle it (forget about Bush as Obama owns it now). Of course he is working with his BFF Immelt and Daley but that doesn't seem to be going well either.

The good news is the Reps have a much higher probability of gaining the Senate then the Dems do of keeping it.
