Couldn’t think of a more appropriate story to end the week on as I head over to the Dew Drop Inn!

Seems union busting and additional tax breaks for the wealthy aren’t the only thing on his Koch Brother(s) driven agenda!

Tucked into Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s (R) much-discussed
budget was a little-noticed provision to overhaul the state’s regulation of the
beer industry. In a state long associated with beer, the provision will make it much more difficult for the Wisconsin’s
burgeoning craft breweries to operate and expand their business by barring them
from selling directly to restaurants and liquor stores, and preventing them
from selling their own product onsite.

The new provision treats craft brewers — the 60 of whom make up
just 5 percent of the beer market in Wisconsin — like corporate mega-brewers,
forcing them to use a wholesale distributor to market their product. Under the
provision, it would be illegal, for instance, for a small brewer located near a
restaurant to walk next door to deliver a case of beer. They’ll have to hire a
middle man to do it instead.

But more noteworthy than the provision itself is how it was
enacted. The provision was quietly slipped in the massive budget legislation without any consultation from independent
craft brewers, who are justifiably outraged by it. One group that
clearly did have input, however, is one of the world’s
largest beer makers — MillerCoors:

Chicago-based MillerCoors, which operates a brewery and eastern
division headquarters in Milwaukee, supports the proposal because it shares
concerns with wholesale distributors about the possibility of Anheuser-Busch
buying wholesalers throughout the country, said company spokesman James Wright.

Thanks to our hosts/moderators; Mark, Domenico & Ali for another week of the wild & wacky of the political spectrum!

See you all over @ the Inn - I'll have a craft brew this evening, in support of the little guy! ;o)

Yet another constituency that Walker just lost. The craft brewers just recently (before Walker came into office, and while there was still a democratic legislature) undid an old law that limited the number of establishments they could operate in a single locality -- same basic deal was responsible for that: big beer lobby influence. The Coors are right up there with the Koch brothers.

Government by candlelight. Maybe that's the Republican idea of how to save energy and go green.

And then again, maybe not.

Thanks for the link, Feisty.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

No, they're just against beer that tastes good.

Julie:

Actually, I consider the mindless drones who follow Governor Walker to be the zombies. But yes, it was probably inappropriate, although Walker's appearing to for Special Olympics is no doubt as phony as everything else about him. Are YOU aware that Walker is promoting budget legislation to reduce Medicaid benefits for the the poor, the elderly, and the disabled. Or do you always prefer form over substance?

Have a great weekend, Spanky.

By the way, Spanky, in case you didn't catch this from the article, the craft brewers are the true small businesses in this story.

Why does Scott Walker hate small businesses, Spanky?

  • 9 votes
#1.9 - Fri Jun 10, 2011 5:36 PM EDT

Didn't hear that Feisty. So much for the GOP embracing "small business"; nothing like creating jobs GOP style by putting the little beer guys out of business. Coors is one of the big players in ALEC, the group that writes all that legislation favoring big business and gives it to repubs to pass.

Now I'll head over to the DDI for some specialty brew! Wisconsin small-business beer brewers are welcome to sell there.

Thanks to our First Read hosts who have again provided excellent articles to discuss. Have a great weekend everyone.

Wouldn't know AM - 1. I rarely drink beer, but when I do it is always Natty Light, Havasu's choice {30 pack for $15.99]. Me I'm all about the Captain, and my new favorite Sailor Jerry rum; 2. I got my own problems with my own governor.

But good news - it happy hour time, so check you next week.

And Drive By you really got to get over your fixation on my junk and photo skills. I was just about to send a lovely picture to Ms. Spanky, but she just e mailed to say she is in for Happy Hour. Or not, cause I am always happy to talk about my junk. :)

Maybe you should look at my link before you get too self-righteous. Their presence there was not intentional -- the original protest was supposed to be of a state legislator -- and no one except Walker was particularly outraged. His outrage is totally phony, just like yours. So typical.

Gonna go to the DDI and have several soda-pops-with-foam-on-top. Should be fun. Gonna unplug the beat-box, so we can hear all the discussions from the Palin e-mail story, including this gem:

12:19 AT (4:19 ET): Just a note for those who enjoy tweaking President Barack Obama for using a teleprompter. (Doesn't every president or governor use a teleprompter for speeches?) On March 20, 2007, Gov. Palin's staff was setting up an interview on natural gas issues with Energy TV from Canada. Here's how the interview was set up: Her aide, Sharon Leighow, asked the questions, and the answers were posted on a teleprompter for Palin to read. Then the fake interview was uploaded by satellite to Energy TV.

Like I said- should be fun. As long as I don't shoot beer out my nose....

That really is a gem Drive By.

And of course much less gloomy that talking about the carnage that has been taking place on the stock market, right? Or the jobs numbers, deficits, debt ceiling, or frankly anything Obama related.

Sure. But don't go getting all doom and gloomy, sounding more and more like Obama is worshipping at he alter of conservatism - more tax cuts.

But I do like you referring to teleprompters. It's a lot like Clinton's issuewith Anthony's little dilemma - kinda focuses folks back to things he'd really not deal with.

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

When Mitt Romney announced he was running for President last week--his teleprompter had been stuck into hay bales. Not one snarky comment from conservatives about teleprompters then.

Incidentally, the stock market is a reflection of not just the USA but global events. Wall Street is very nervous (and has told Boehner not to play games) that the GOPTP seems to prefer allowing the US to default on its debt. Nothing like failing to raise the debt ceiling to make investors sell out fast. So, while it is easy to blame our President for the stock market drop, conservatives never mention the stock market when it was rising. It can't be he is responsible only for the bad and not the good. Got it?

"manufactured honor"?

You mean like putting on a flight suit and walking around an aircraft carrier like Yosemite Sam.

Funny thing Ed all those times when Bush was clearing brush in Crawford county turns out he was just clearing brush, seems while Obama is playing golf he is still collecting enemy heads, you know the people that attacked us on Bush's watch the ones 6 years later he didn't really think to much about them anymore since he hadn't heard much from then him lately. Give it a rest Edward you are on shaky ground.

Their discussions on the economy will not include the fact that every one of them signed an oath to not raise taxes while they are in office. The only oath they need is the one they make to us, the country. However it is a long shot that any of them will get in with their shafting of the middle class. I don't guess they will address this either. They will only talk about how we need to sacrifice to give the wealthy their tax breaks. To watch this debate will be an underwhelming experience.

The whole concept of the GOP/RNC doing prep work for anything? Is a joke America! They have a hard time understanding basic facts concerning history, economics, politics, social issues, and cultural issues. The GOP/RNC also have a tough time comprehending information read or said to them in any order. The "Idiots Of Ignorance" of the GOP/RNC are well noted in the political record. The comments of "Bitchy Bachmann" and her cohort in poltical crime "Puppet Palin" are a very clear example of this. The perverted antics of "Vikie Vitter" are a clear example of the lack of morality of the GOP/RNC. Then there is Sanitarium Santorum! Isn't PITA still wanting to talk to this guy? Then there is "Nutty Newt" the king of "flip-flopping!" How about the boring monotone ramblings of TIMMY!! The "Political Puke Pawlenty" is on the record for wanting to politically kill Medicare. The only prepping the GOP/RNC Clowns are doing is on their make-up. their costumes, and their sad one liners attacking the President. They will debate why the President should not be President. Again! They will not have any ideas on how to create jobs. The simple fact is that they can not even do nearly as well as President Obama is doing. Our nation is better than it was in 2008 however there is still more work to do.
