Ex-Gingrich spokesman: Departures due to a difference of opinion about 'path to victory'

First Read just got off the phone with longtime Gingrich spokesman Rick Tyler, who was part of the exodus from the Gingrich campaign.

While Tyler said he wouldn't go into details, he said the departures were due to a difference of opinion about "the path to victory" for Gingrich.

"There is a path to victory," Tyler said. "But there was a dispute on what that path to victory was."

Tyler -- who sent the now-famous "literati"/"minions" statement about the critical press Gingrich was receiving -- had worked for Gingrich for nearly 12 years.

"It's been an unbelievable 12 years," he told First Read. "I have no regrets. I admire him deeply. I hope he does become president."

But he said that Gingrich needed a different path to victory. That was echoed by strategist Dave Carney, who also departed the Gingrich campaign. "The professional team came to the realization that the direction of the campaign they sought and Newt vision for campaign were incompatible."

Gingrich just released the following statement: "I am committed to running the substantive, solutions-oriented campaign I set out to run earlier this spring. The campaign begins anew Sunday in Los Angeles," when he addresses the Republican Jewish Coalition there.

Spinal Tap;

" You're playing smaller and smaller venues; So is the band is losing popularity"

"Well, no I wouldn't say that, I'd say that their appeal is becoming more selective"

It's just that Newt's appeal is becoming much, much, more selective....

The only path Newtie is following is the one to the CURB!

His campaign has flat-lined and there isn't a defibrillator strong enough to revive it! LMAO!

Turn off the lights... the party's over before it ever began...

The path to victory isn't through Gingrich's payroll, that's all. He didn't bite the dust so much as shoot the foot. They MUST band together in TOTAL solidarity, no matter how asinine Ryan's plan is. You'd think Newt would know that since he pretty much 'came up' in the ranks of the fold that really practiced the monolithic THINK Trust (using that term loosely).

Navy Vet - so what if most of them bite the dust? You say that as if there is real meaning in who's trying to run compared to who is actually going to run. Even at this point, Romney is trying to run even though he appears to be the front runner.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm glad most of the chaff is falling off. I hope to lose a whole lot more before it's over. Don't think for a moment that Obama is a shoe in. I know, I know... in your mind he's unbeatable, but that's based on emotion, not the facts, nor the amount of calamity that can occur between now and Nov 2012.

I understand you make Buffalo wings. What hot sauce do you use? I also spent some time in the Anchor bar on Main Street. Used to go there every Friday night after classes at UB.

Which one of Newt's opinions was the difference over?

      #2.4 - Thu Jun 9, 2011 5:18 PM EDT

Probably all of them Anna Molly. Newt was trying to run as a centrist. What his campaign amounted to was a John McCain approach. The tact he was taking was to win over support from both parties. It was his strategy but a lot of people saw through it.

Newt had his hay day and his time has passed. I couldn't believe it when he said he was running in the first place. There is NO way he could ever dream of winning... he didn't have the support nor will he ever get it.

        Newt: "I CAN WIN!!!"

        Aides: "NO, YOU CAN'T!!!"

Hey Groucho, why is it do you think that FR doesn't want to cover Obama's new economic plans?

And you better believe that any republican that addresses any Jewish coalition from anywhere will be beating the hell out of Obama's little Israel problem.

        Spanky,

Honestly don't know. You'd think it was big news. Giving them the benefit of the doubt. I"m thinking that until it's in concrete it's still not fact. No way are you going to get me to say they are anything but neutral when it comes to politics!!!!

Can hear the Obama sold out Israel diatribe already.

        Groucho -

You will hear the sold out Israel refrain because that is what he did. Going back to the pre 67 borders was never going to happen so Obama was just pandering to the arabists in the dem party.

Ooops- speaking of bone-heads, I wonder if out favorite 'lawyer' from out west took in Mr Ed last night. The episode where Mr Ed showed the chart comparing oil production in the US under Bush and under Obama? It looked like one of those 'V's that geese fly in overhead.....

After a couple of weeks in Greece, dreaming about Athens and the history of democracy, Newt has determined he is America's only salvation.  His Path to Victory is to expose the truth and attack the old and new politics and the old and new politicians. (That he was one of them should be forgotten as readily as he was an adulterer).  Scorched earth approach, going after everyone.  And people thought "conservative extremists social engineering" comment was an off message, over the top mistatement  It will soon seem mild.

Same path that all the GOP and Tea Baggers will find.... lie through your teeth and tell us how compassionate you are until you are elected... then hammer us with more tax cuts for multi millionaires, abortion and guns... and "say" that if we only cut taxes, jobs are just around the corner.... "you've all been listening to Annie too much".... the GOP has no ideas other than making themselves rich....
