Five reasons to take Michele Bachmann seriously… 1) she’s running, 2) she’ll raise lots of money, 3) she’ll stand out at the debates, 4) she could be the only female in the field, and 5) she can fill the Tea Party void… What about Rick Perry?... Is Giuliani about to get in?... Romney gets tough welcome in Detroit… White House mulls business payroll tax cut… The Biden talks continue… Answering why Ensign and Vitter didn’t get the same political pressure to resign as Weiner is currently receiving… And with McKenna in the race for WA GOV, it’s now or never for the GOP to win a governor’s race in the state (in a presidential year).
*** Five reasons to take Bachmann seriously: In the next week, Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann, thanks mostly to her decision to participate in next week's Republican primary debate, is going to be getting her first big moment in the national political spotlight. For the last two years, she's been a caricature -- a spoof on "Saturday Night Live," a political lightning rod, and an easy target for some folks to try and use her as a way to drive independents or moderates away from the GOP. But here are five reasons to take Michele Bachmann seriously in the race for the Republican nomination: One, there's clear evidence she's running (hiring Ed Rollins, participating at the debate). Two, she's going to able to raise money, lots of it (take a look at what she raised last cycle). Three, she will stand out at the debates. Four, she's going to be the only female in the field (if Palin doesn't run). And five, and most importantly, she has the ability to win over the sizeable number of Republicans who were cheering on Donald Trump (for a while) and who are listening to Herman Cain (right now). This segment of the GOP wants a candidate who will carry the Tea Party banner, who talks strongly about his/her religious faith, and who will take the fight to President Obama.
*** A female Huckabee who can raise money? In this respect, Bachmann has the POTENTIAL to be this cycle's female version of Mike Huckabee -- and she can do something Huck never could do: raise lots of money. An instant player in Iowa and South Carolina? Check. A key attraction at the debates? Check. Will take the fight to Obama, as well as Romney, Huntsman, and Pawlenty? Check. Of course, this doesn't mean she WILL catch fire come next year. But if we're thinking about candidates who could be the lone alternative still standing against Mitt Romney after Feb. 2012, Bachmann has to be on the list.
*** What about Perry? Another Republican who could be on that list: Texas Gov. Rick Perry. The Wall Street Journal: “[O]ver the past two weeks, political advisers and friends say, Mr. Perry has changed his tune on a possible presidential campaign. In private conversations, they say, the three-term governor said he worries that the current GOP contenders have yet to stir real excitement within the party and may struggle when facing President Barack Obama. ‘He thinks there is a void [in the current field of candidates], and that he might be uniquely positioned to fill that void,’ said one Perry confidant who talked to the governor last week.” Perry is making SOME moves, and don't forget the big prayer day he's organizing for later this summer. It's worth noting that two of his key campaign aides for the past are both with Newt Gingrich, and Gingrich has actually spent a lot of time courting Perry. If Perry gets in, how much does that hurt Gingrich?
*** Rudy, Rudy, Rudy: Yesterday, the Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol reported, per “two reliable sources,” that Rudy Giuliani intends to run for president and that he might announce soon. Privately, as we've reported here a few times these last few weeks, we’ve heard that Giuliani is thinking hard about a run. And in his mind, he’d like to do it; think redemption. But whether or not that means he actually runs is anyone’s guess. If he does make a bid, Giuliani realizes -- unlike in 2008 -- that he’d have to camp out in New Hampshire. Yet that would make the Granite State a crowded place, with Romney, Jon Huntsman, and even Ron Paul staking their candidacies on the state. By the way, many of the smarter money and strategic folks who did work for Rudy in 2008 are sitting on the sidelines waiting for somebody else to run: Chris Christie.
*** Romney’s tough welcome in Detroit: Meanwhile, Romney remains in Michigan, where he’s already met with voters in Livnoia and holds a roundtable discussion and tours a business later this morning in Detroit. The DNC greets Romney with a Web video entitled “Welcome to Detroit, Mitt Romney,” playing up Romney’s Nov. 2008 op-ed on the auto industry entitled “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” (which was the paper’s headline, not Romney’s). The local headlines are rough for Romney. The Detroit Free Press: “Romney defends his stance on U.S. auto rescue as he courts Michigan voters.” The Detroit News: “Michigan politicians hack Romney over auto bailout stance.”
*** White House in “do anything” mode on the economy? As yet another national poll (CBS’s) finds President Obama’s approval rating returning below 50% --due to the recent spate of bad economic news -- the White House is looking for something, anything, to do. Here’s Bloomberg News: “President Barack Obama’s advisers have discussed seeking a temporary cut in the payroll taxes businesses pay on wages as they debate ways to spur hiring amid signs that the recovery is slowing, according to people familiar with the matter. The idea, which is in preliminary stages of discussion, is among several being talked about at the White House as the economy holds center stage for the administration and Congress.” Advisers remind us this is not a "new" idea, per se, and aren't ready to agree with the premise that there is ramped UP talk about this idea. But the president himself hinted earlier this week that there are SOME things (which are designed to get through a Republican House) that he's considering.
*** The Biden talks continue: At 12:30 pm ET, on Capitol Hill, Vice President Biden holds the latest round of deficit-reduction talks. The other participants: Sens. Daniel Inouye (D), Jon Kyl (R), and Max Baucus (D); Reps. Eric Cantor (R), James Clyburn (D), and Chris Van Hollen (D); and administration officials Tim Geithner, Jacob Lew, and Gene Sperling.
*** Answering why Ensign and Vitter didn’t get the same political pressure Weiner is receiving: Turning briefly to Weiner-gate, liberals and progressives have asked this question: Why is there a political drumbeat for embattled Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner to resign when that didn’t exist for scandal-plagued Republicans like Sens. John Ensign and David Vitter? But there’s a simple reason for the difference. With Weiner, the entire Republican Party has leaned its shoulder into putting the Democratic Party in a box. RNC Chairman Reince Priebus has gone on “TODAY” to demand Weiner’s resignation, while a top aide to House Minority Leader Eric Cantor has tweeted the latest developments in the story. By contrast, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee issued press releases for a week when the Ensign news first broke. But after that, Democrats let go. You didn’t see then-DNC Tim Kaine (who as a Senate candidate has now called for Weiner’s resignation) go on “TODAY” to demand Ensign’s ouster. And you didn't see other Democrats do the same thing with Vitter. Republicans are much more disciplined at the drumbeat than Democrats have proven to be. Of course, there may be ONE big reason Democrats tread differently on sex scandals: Bill Clinton.
*** Now or never for the WA GOP: According to our research, Washington happens to be the state that’s gone the longest without having a Republican win a gubernatorial race there (since 1980), while South Dakota has gone the longest since a Democratic gubernatorial candidate won (1970. But now that Republicans got their top candidate in Washington state to run for governor next year -- Attorney General Rob McKenna -- it’s now or never for the GOP to take back the governor’s mansion in a presidential year. If McKenna can’t win, after Dino Rossi’s three failed statewide bids, then it’s hard to envision when Republicans will ever win it back.

On Second Thought...
5 Reasons to laugh about this...
1) Bachmann is looney to the point she shows it in her expressions
2) Bachmann is TEA Party and we all know they will cut off their nose in spite of their face
3) Bachmann is a tool for the Republican Party that only wants to generate hostility
4) Bachmann is a greedy and will use a Christine Odonnell, Sarah Palin way of squandering her constituents donations for her own personal use
5) Bachmann is obvious in her position of hating all things President Obama as she supported the spitters, shouters, hate spewing and race baiting in the HCR debate
MSNBC continues to supply a platform for misinformation and continues to support those that wish to do harm to America. Case in point is the polling they use...
As much information that is put forth this day and age, the quality and validity of that information is apparent in the failures of journalism. It is no doubt that the message of misinformation is stifling to the senses when there are at least 10 polls that can come out on any given day from 'reputable' sources that contradict one another. It is noticeable that 'news sources' that take every piece of information as verified without verifying it has lost the message of being a messenger.
Any polling used today is shady at best. The polling questions used are created for a specific outcome, to generate a negative or positive toward the subject of the polling. When there are too many polls there is too much information that can be used for the wrong agenda. MSNBC has shown that the polls they use on a daily basis contradict each other and have failed in supplying concrete information.
It's good that the people are involved in polling data, but when the data comes from different sources with multiple questions, the results are faulty when they are gathered for the public.

United We Stand, Divided We Fall
It just keeps getting worse every day. No new ideas, bad ones are getting worse and “class warfare” gets stepped up a notch by the GOP/TP.
And that’s just for Pawlenty’s income tax plan. He has also proposed eliminating the capital gains and estate taxes entirely, two moves which would overwhelmingly benefit the very richest Americans and more than double the costs to over $300 Billion Dollars.
This is crazy at best, from a Tax cutting point of view this is the Ryan Bill on “Steroids”. This is another attempt to cloak a Tax Cutting Bill for the 2% as a “Fiscally Responsible” bill. BS, it is what ii is, another attempt to redistribute wealth and power to the 2% - PERIOD. While most Americans are fighting to pay their bills, wondering if tomorrow when they wake up do they have a job, the GOP/TP is cutting the taxes on the richest people by over 40%, hence reducing Tax revenues that will need to be replaced somehow. Oh I know, the Middle Class can foot the bill.
In Wisconsin all 6 Republican State Senators and 3 Democrats will be facing recall elections. But, the GOP/TP has been exposed for yet another fraudulent act on its Citizens.
This is amazing, they now have three bogus democrats running in the recall elections trying to gum up the works with “Frauds” and to make it worst, they make no bones about it, they admit it. Why? Because the GOP/TP is trying to buy more time for the Koch Brothers and Karl Rove to develop a plan to counter attack its citizens. They also have “The Bill” coming up for a vote soon and they are trying to put some time in between that vote and the recall elections hoping the Citizens of Wisconsin will have a memory lapse. What about the new voter registration laws that disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of Wisconsin Citizens from voting, when do the new laws go into effect???
People, this is yet another example of one hell of an arrogant political party basically pissing in the face of its citizens and daring them to try and do anything about it. You just cannot get any more repugnant than this, period.
And as reported on the Rachael Maddow show last night there are 6 States and growing that are trying to ban the “Pill”. These repugnant thugs have taken the assault on Women’s Reproductive rights to a new low. Not only are they violating the Supreme Courts Row vs. Wade decision which give women the “rights” to an abortion, they now also want to take away their contraceptive rights, meaning that women will now have absolutely NO CONTROL over their own bodies and reproductive rights.
What was that about the GOP/TP trying to create a “class based society”?? The GOP/TP thinks women are second class citizens and they want to control their reproductive rights and their ability to make equal pay for equal work. They want to make the Gay Community second class citizens by denying them to get married, to serve in the Military defending this country and putting their lives on the line. They want to totally destroy the middle class making us subservient to the richest 2% and beg them for their scraps. They call the unemployed (who are out of a job – thank you Mr. Bush) Hobos, stupid, lazy, a drag on society etc. They want to take away Health Care from seniors, the sick and disabled, the low income, veterans etc.
Somebody explain to me how in good conscience you can vote for people with this type of self serving DRCONIAN ideology?? I do not get it. The GOP/TP has no new ideas to bring froth, they are not interested in creating Jobs and stimulating the economy, they have declared “class warfare” on America. What does the GOP/TP really offer America?? What has the GOP/TP done in the lat 2 years plus to move this country forward?? Concerned people want to know.
WeinerGate has gone from bad to worse…
I truly hope that the NY Times story about Anthony Weiner’s wife being pregnant with their first child is a mistake!
How very sad to have something that should be cause for so much celebration, overshadowed by his immoral behavior!
He should resign immediately & work on repairing the damage he has caused to his wife, friends, family & supporters…
As for that scumbag Brietbart – my grampa used to always told me, there's a special place in hell for people like him!
Splintering of the GOP/TP:
It looks like the Tea Party Patriots and the Tea Party Express do not see eye-to-eye. One group
wants to support the GOP/TP no matter who becomes the nominee and the other group will not pledge their allegiance to any political party. Also, I recall a few days ago that Freedom Works does not support Romney and is willing to spend some big bucks to take him down.
Romney cannot crow about having the support of 25% of the Republicans, because 75% are not ready to jump on his bandwagon. Christian conservatives are not yet comfortable about having a Mormon for president and that could be a significant blow to both Romney and Huntsman.
I do see Michele Bachmann's numbers improving. Not because she found 50 additional I.Q.
points, but because she hired Ed Rollins who does have 50 more I.Q. points than Bachmann. Ed Rollins will start attacking Sarah Palin and that will not be called splintering, but a cat-fight
for all to see.
Speaking of Sarah, it is obvious to me that her summer vacation tour bus with "We the People" written on the side was planned. It was planned to undercut Romney, Santorum and any other Republican she can set her sights on. But Sarah's plan is far from finished. She's traveling to
England. For about 16 pounds she can get a visitor's pass to Westminster Abby and learn some English history. She may even go to Windsor Castle to see the Queen. Who knows?
But what is also intriguing is that she is going to Juba in Africa. Now why would she do that? My guess is that when she returns to the good ol' USA she will no longer talk about seeing Russia from her kitchen window, but will now talk about world events based on her short trip to Juba. Sarah's agenda is to steal the spotlight from Romney, neutralize Bachmann, splinter the party so the GOP/TP standard bearer will be determined at the Republican National Convention. In that forum silly Sarah may not look so silly.
Well, the Weiner’s weiner story gets even worse. Now, he has gone from sending out lewd photos to sending out explicitly obscene photos. If he doesn’t resign from office first thing today, Nancy Pelosi and the Dem caucus should publically demand his expulsion from the House of Representatives. There isn’t room for a scumbag like Anthony Weiner in the highest reaches of the US government. And if they don’t, then they all become accomplices and enablers to his reprehensible actions. You would think that with his pregnant wife sharing in his public humiliation and the fact that his children will have to live with the taunts of schoolmates throughout their childhoods, he would just do the right thing and resign and crawl into a hole, never to be heard from again.
From MSDNC.com:
NEW YORK — As pressure mounted on Rep. Anthony Weiner to resign after sending a lewd photo to a woman via Twitter, two wrinkles on Wednesday complicated the story of his online sexual relationships with a series of women:
Weiner's office issued a statement Wednesday that said he sent explicit photos of himself. The statement was issued after an X-rated photo turned up on the Internet.
The photo, which shows a man's genitals, was published by a website after conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart showed it to the hosts of Sirius XM radio's Opie & Anthony Show.
On third thought:
More reasons to Laugh your butt off...
1.) Hasn’t a clue about history or geography.
2.) Receives hundreds of thousands of dollars in farm subsidies
3.) Has another cash crop of foster children.
4.) Doesn’t know the difference between the Constitution & Declaration of Independence and believes they're interchangeable!
5.) Overall bat sh!t crazy!
Just a quick update, then I'm out the door-
Surgery on princess went very well- she got moved out of intensive care last night, might be home by weekend.
It will take six weeks to learn if the surgery was successful- then tests at three months, six months, and every sox months thereafter.
Right now, she is sitting up, singing her little songs, drinking juice, and begging for food- they will probably feed her this morning.
Thanks to all for prayers and good thoughts.
NJNB...
What happened???? Sorry, I haven't been around the blog a whole lot lately. My thoughts and prayers are definitely with you and your family and especially that little princess of yours. Take care!!
no joe, no bo, nj
Right now, she is sitting up, singing her little songs, drinking juice, and begging for food- they will probably feed her this morning.
That the great news No Jo, i have been waiting for you to give us a update, god bless and like i said, keep the faith and god will see you through.
Please let us know tomorrow and everyday how she is doing, stay strong for her and god bless you grandma!!!!.
Truthfully I am very disgusted, I thought this kid was on the ball, he seemed to speak up and stand his ground. Then he pulls these punk stunts, like I have said before when a man does something like this it becomes the one thing his opponents will always remember, and the the one thing his supporters can never forget. Sad thing when a man plays fast and loose with his family's good name. Whether it is fair or not, or whether others are doing the same or worse is not the point, if it's not criminal it is damn creepy, he lied repeatedly, I can't defend his actions or condone them, in the end he slipped himself the weenie he should just go quickly and quietly. By the way I'm human, and have my faults, I have been called a sawed off little prick, but I sure as hell never sent anybody a picture so they could prove it.
@NJ Give that baby girl a kiss on top hear head from all of us.
As for that scumbag Brietbart – my grampa used to always told me, there's a special place in hell for people like him!

Typical lefty liberal "kill the messenger" cop out.
BTW, if your grandpa is right about Breitbart, it's probably one or two floors up from the special place in Hell for scumbag perverts like Anthony Weiner.
I'm happy you continue to be titillated by Mr. Weiner there Joey!
Only proves it doesn't take much to get you off... ;o)
For all we know, you could be David Vitter in drag!
Complete with room for Diaper Dave Vitter!!
You mean like Newt & McNasty?
Good to hear everything is going good no joe. Hope your little princess is back at home soon.
Ok the Wiener has been rendered impotent. Now let's move on and create some jobs and do something to stimulate this sluggish economy. He was wrong and he has to pay the price, period. Done, now back to business.
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
From what i hear, Elisabeth Edwards got the last laugh from the grave, seem that the information that got her scum bag husband Indited came from her.
Good for you, Elisabeth
Michelle Bachman would beat President Obama. I think the democrats better hurry up and find a viable candidate.
Nasty redhead, why do you bring up Mr. Weiner and then scold Joe for mentioning him? Doesn't take much to get you off does it?
NoJoe -
I'm glad it was good news; I was wondering about her yesterday. I've heard that children that age are amazingly resilient - much more so than those at our age whose job it is to worry about them. Hope everything continues to go well for her.
Ah Louis, you are correct about Bachmann. BUT, she's good for the Democratic Party.
Republicans/T-Baggers, please nominate Bachmann. LMAO.
@Navy -- Instead of harping on the same things day-in and day-out from the same biased organizations and preaching to the same people (mostly your own choir) everyday, I would like to make a request. You obviously are intelligent and can do research. I would like for you to go to -- analyze on your own -- the One Cent plans being touted by Mack and Fattah(sp?). Don't use biased website opinions. Read the plans. They are totally different in concept as one reduces spending and the other increases revenues. Can there be a compromise between the two?
These are new ideas and there are many more of them out there. This story's headline and perception is hooey. Bachmann has no chance as far as I am concerned as a Republican but I am not going to focus on her intelligence or statements. Same with with Pawlenty. Don't waste your energy on these longshot hopefuls.
The American people need to find what works, not what doesn't work. Are you up to the challenge? The fun is wearing off of reading all the negative things people say on here, calling each other names, nitpicking little typos, etc. Let's do something productive.
the field of gop/teabaggers who are announcing that they are going to run for the highest office in the land is laughable, bachman is a Darn joke...i hope she gets the nomination with her Mcarthy antics and her Phyllis diller stare.......she is one scary broad................Obama/Biden 2012
No Jo- I appreciate your sharing the good news this morning about your little one. Right now, she's all that counts in your life, I imagine! You take care of the both of you.
JH-479998
"Michelle Bachman would beat President Obama"
I think you are onto something, there, JH. Hey gang-what do you say we ALL pull for Bachmann to make the cut? I know I'm gonna!
I notice a lot of you are way off topic here. This article has to do with Representative Michelle Bachman, not Weiner.
That said, did anyone read the addendum to the article where it states that Obama is ready to try ANYTHING to make the economy change. Even, (perish the thought), a tax cut to corporations. Yep, a cut in the payroll tax. How is it a tax cut is wrong when it is given by a Republican, but OK if Obama gives one??
Bachmann is a legend in her own little mind. She is not going to win in 2012 assuming she gets that far.
It is absolutely amazing that the Weiner issue continues to crop up. What more is to be said in light of these controlling facts? Weiner can resign. The House of Representatives can expel him. His wife can divorce him/forgive him, and/or make his life very miserable. His constituents can vote him out. That's it. Any talking/typing by people outside his district with the exception of his fellow legislators is nothing more than noise. These people could take a garbage can lid and bang on it, and the net effect on the Weiner issue is identical to that of their meaningless rants.
This has taken on the proportion of the Palin obsession. We know she's an ignorant shrew, yet the vituperation continues. Why? She remains an ignorant shrew whether she is vilified or she is praised. The same outcome holds for Weiner. We know he's a liar and we know he doesn't grasp the depth of his problem whether he is vilified or praised.
Let these horror stories die. Thought-provoking posts like those of LouisJ, USNavy, and Ron Indiana clearly demonstrate the real issue facing this country.
There is a substantial segment of our population that is truly uneducated and worse, have almost no critical thinking skills. How else do you explain women ignoring the incredible assault on their hard-won rights? How else do you explain the slavish devotion to tax cuts, when mountains of evidence shows this is not the end-all be-all answer to raising revenue? How else do you explain people believing the bald-faced lie that seniors are untouched by the Ryan attack on Medicare? His plan re-opens the so-called donut hole. How else do you explain the adherence to the myth/fable that the earth is six-thousand-years old?
Can anyone with a dime's worth of brains imagine that cutting funds for education isn't meant to keep the electorate dumb, dumb, dumb?
Invoking ideology is not a substitute for reasoned debated. Indeed ideology is a tether that stanches free thinking. We hear about social safety nets. We rarely hear about how we will pay for them. We hear about "free markets", yet we never see them. We hear about capitalism and socialism, but we never see those "-isms" in their pure form.
Education is what gives someone the courage to stand up and say, "You are lying, AND I can prove it."
RVZ555..
He and his "Two Americas" bs.
That's also a main theme on this board. That people who are successfula and have made money should give it to people who aren't.
...........................................................................
I don't know where you live but in the America I live in there ARE 2 America's, the haves and the have not"s. The middle class has been decimated. Their wealth transferred to 2% of Americans by Reagan"s trickle down nonsense and the Bush Tax cuts. Between 1980 and 2005, over 80% of the wealth of this country was transferred to the haves under the theory that would create jobs. That's worked out pretty well right? They didn't work for it, they were given a gift, unprecedented in US history. Now, ask them to pay 3% more in tax and it's a redistribution of wealth. Well, it is a redistribution. We're giving it back to the people that earned it and it was legally stolen from.
Do yourself a favor. Go to a VA center or hospital and sit in the lobby and look at all the homeless vets sipping the free coffee and scrounging for food. For free medical. Go to your local food pantry. It's packed and usually almost empty. One in four kids in this country go to bed hungry.
You should be proud of what you and the uncaring and ungrateful "fiscal and social conservatives" have done to this country. I don't know how you sleep at night.
Cmon Navy. Please respond to my request.
Old Navel,
Your devotion to ignorance is amazing.
We have explained that revenues have historically never varied beyond the 17.1% - 19% of GDP range despite tax rates that have varied between 35% - 92%.
We have explained why this occurrs.
We have also explained that even if you tax everyone in the 2% category (they wouldn't pay anyway- they are not stupid)) at a 100% rate - take everything - it wouldn't even cover Obama's deficit spending.
We have pointed out that the worst revenues in history were at the highest tax rates in history, (Truman's 91% rate).
We have pointed out that Bush's revenues for 2007 were 18.5% of GDP, the second highest in history.
Yet you ignorantly cut and paste the same thinkprogress crap day after day about the tax "cuts" cost money and cost the middle class and poor.
Can you explain how the second highest revenues cost money?
How does that math work? How much does a tax rate of 92% costs? The 8% they aren't being taxed ..... what a joke.
What is really sad is that your propagation of this ignorance, your wanton misrepresentation of reality for the sake of garnering suport for a failed president ....... your bigoted partisanship only harms the economic recover and insures the suffering of the unemployed, the poor and the middle class.
Pathetic.
Taxing discourages an activity. (Taxing cigarettes is meant to discourage smoking.) It does not encourage an activity.
We need jobs. Why do you mock those that encourage economic activity that would help the unemployed, the poor and the middle class.
You would rather insure their marginalization, deny their increased wealth than help unemployed provide for their families.
Let them suffer, right?
The libs will scream for unemployment benefits ..... they will be OK and libs can feel good about themselves.
Guess what idiot ...... they don't liberal handouts ....... they want JOBS!
Class warfare?
Yea, good little soldier ...... you do it every day, day after day, week after week .....
whats this? talk from the White House of a tax cut? wtf? over
Some might consider what Weiner did "safe sex." No chance of conceiving a child, no chance of contracting a disease, no emotional involvement with another woman, and no expenditure of campaign money on hotel rooms.
Hugely embarrassing naturally, but isn't that what the Internet is for? Making fools of ourselves, in one way or another? I'm sure Spanky can relate.
Hey Feisty, I have a serious question for you - Why do people keep putting Vitter and diaper in the same sentence? I don't follow sex scandals too closely, so I don't get the connection. Can you enlighten me?
As far as Bill Clinton goes, the reason why he survived is because the GOP was out to get him from Day 1. They tried to nail everything under the sun on him and Hillary. So by the time Monica surfaced, the nation was already clued in in what Newt & Co. were doing - they were on a witch hunt from the get go.
When all was said and done, it was Newt and his pals who ended up looking like the jerks. Plus with Clinton, we knew much about his private life and he was elected anyway.
Having said that, I was furious what he did in the White House. I was livid.
Rep. Weiner has gone way beyond the bounds. Way way beyond. It's pretty hard to run against a Republican when our party members are doing it as well.
I hope he goes, but ultimately it's up to his district I imagine.
He is going to have to explain himself to his children as they grow up, let alone to us. He is going to have to explain why he became what we teach our daughters to watch out for on the internet.
If any males in my company did this, whether he used his work OR home computer - would be fired. Instantly. For some reason politicians get away with this stuff. And they shouldn't.
Especially legislators. The bar is supposed to be higher for them. Instead they exploit their power. And it's hard for us to defend them. Nor should we.
@ US NavyDisabled Veteran-Retired: When you said "gop/tp has no new ideas to bring froth"...were you refering to santorum? Froth is part of the definition for santorum. LOL Everybody; have a great day!
@ Amy
Oh no, don't tell me there is a SpankyCam web page or something I don't even want to know. Why do they call it Facebook, nobody seems to use it to send pics of their smiling faces.
The hooker he was caught with, let it slip that Vitter amongst his other perversions, his penchant was a diaper fetish! lol
Good to see you this morning Pat! I'm still chuckling about the Boston Strangler story! ;o))
yea he made a fool of himself, but he also lied.
How come no one on this DEMOCRATIC PROPOGANDA SPIN SPIN BOARD ever discusses Obama's dismal approval rating?
Thanks Feisty. My oh my what a creep huh?
As far as Edwards goes, I didn't care for him at all. There was just something about him...I remember reading an article about him being "for the people" or there being "two Americas" or something like that, yet he didn't know his neighbors, who were poor? I'm not sure I have this right but whatever I read at the time raised eyebrows. I also remember Edwards and his wife being on Hardball in 2008, and to me it looked like there was trouble brewing in their marriage.
They seemed like a different couple from a few years earlier. And now we know. I have zero sympathy for him.
because he is done, all the whites will be at the polls pulling for the Republican candidate, it will be a redneck convention
I believe that Feisty (see post # 1.2) has got it right about soon-to-be-former Representative Anthony Weiner. He is a disgrace to the House and should be punted - no ifs or buts - and soon. He needs to polish up his c.v. and find another line of work, although I cannot see Tone-the-Bone as anyone's must hire.
Feisty - If your going to mention Vitter.....how come you never mention Bill Clinton??? "THE KING" of all the political liars and sex perverts and cigar lovers?
Were in the early stages of the economic damage the Democrats have done to the banking industry with that ridiculous Frank/Dodd bill Obama signed into law. As much as liberals like to blame banks for thier woes the unintended consequences of poor Democratic leadership will effect them as much as it does conservatives. Obama's war on banking, Insurance, individuals and companies making $250k+ is destroying this country from the inside. His rhetoric over the past 2 years has basiclly rendered useless the $ trillion he spent in stimulus. Even the 90% approval rating of the poverty lobby is coming in to question with this leadership. LET'S VOTE FOR CHANGE IN 2012!
The most viable candidates always seem to be the ones the real liberals yell the most about.
David Walker-
The mere fact that people talk about the American 'Structure' as good or bad shows, IMHO, they are only eating a small portion of the pie that tastes the best. If people were truly informed about what they are told to talk about, they would in all likelihood disagree with the people that are providing them with the talking points.
I take all this for what it is worth... very little to absolutely nothing. If there were ever a good conversation I would be more than glad to see it. All I see is bickering and in all likelihood, the main reason the articles are written are for people to throw tantrums about something unrelated to the main subject. Sometimes some people need to step back and adjust the antenna.
SMH.
Weiner has to go, bottom line, he's hurting the Dems, and we don't need anymore distractions. Fox News headline banner this am, "Weiners Bun in the Over", the Repubs are lovin' it. Got to stop it. We've got big problems and Weiners dick ain't worth the time we spend on it. Bachmann, well, that's another story and now her point man is picking fights with media hog, Palin, this is good! I can't wait for the debates, you know Bachmann will come up with some dillies. Bachmann does raise a lot of money and it will be spent, it will be for naught however, so she wins Iowa and South Carolina, and takes down the rest of the so called mainstream Repubs, (if there is such a thing left in the Repubs), it's all good for the Dems. Pres. Obama really needs to come up with something big to shut the Repubs up, and now. Come on Pres, you can do it! Even if it doesn't pass, you could make the Repubs look even worse. Just do it!
NavVet,
Fine post! Additionally what these trickle down trolls do not comprehend is that increasing GDP without increasing revenues by a similar percentage using a mechanism of top bracket. Total revenues as a function of GDP have increased abot 6% since 2000 GDP is up 39% all this means is that wealth was created without revenue. Guess where the wealth resides? Low top brackets and lower capital gains and the ability to call stock dividends a capital gain leads to market investment and a lack of long term capital investment. When top brackets are high to reasonable investment creates industry and well paying jobs because profit is taken out in the long term and the asset invested in is non taxable until sold it is what built American Industry. When taxes are low short term high risk investment is the order of the day. This creates vast wealth along with bubbles, market crashes, recessions and depressions while shrinking the middle class and starving government from local to federal of necessary revenues. This is exactly the policy follwed since 1980 and has been a disaster. You can cut spending as much as you want and you may balance a budget but this does not pay off a nickle of our debt this only comes by increasing revenue.

alwaysfaithfull:
That's an easy question to answer: "How come no one on this DEMOCRATIC PROPOGANDA SPIN SPIN BOARD ever discusses Obama's dismal approval rating?"
The President will be in office for four years. Within that period his ratings will fluctuate wildly. One month the electorate thinks he's great, the next month they are upset with him.
If there is to be a discussion it would be: Why are so many citizens so damned dumb that they change their minds from one month to the next based on utterly meaningless BS?
You might look at it like this. You crash the family car, you tell your wife she looks fat, and you said some disgusting things to your in-laws. Your wife is just a trifle upset with you. So you spring for a dozen roses and a Hallmark card with some soppy, hackneyed sentiment and you give them to her. Voila! Everything is just fine, hunky-dory, A-OK.
Do we discuss your bottom-of-the-barrel approval rating of yesterday, or your wife's approval rating of today?
It's a shame that Navy can't respond to a request/challenge to rationally review truly new ideas on fixing the economy. Let's hope that true Americans who actually want to make this country better will take the approach of viewing ideas with an unbiased eye instead of just opposing anything that has an "R" or a "D" by it. I actually believe a combination of the Mack and Fattah(sp?) plans can turn this economy around. I liked to see a discussion on that rather than reading the same comments on and by the same people.
P.S. -- Did anyone notice the job numbers got a little bit worse today?
David Walker.....you sure like to guess alot......and you guess wrong a lot too....including whether I am even married or not.....but keep spinning if it makes you feel better.....just remember that 11/2/10 (just 7 short months ago) was the worst "shellacking" the Democrtaic Party has seen in 60+ years by the American Voter and I am afraid that this is NOT an assumption or "wild fluctuation" either!.........better get your head out the sand and try to "objectively" assess Obama's ratings with the American Voter.........for what they really are and where they are going......or your not going to like 11/6/12 either!!
The thing that sticks out the most about Bachmann, other than the fact that she's crazier than bat s**t, is her ability to spout things that don't even resemble the truth. She'd make Tail Gunner Joe proud.
Bachmann is a genius
"I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out under another, then under another Democrat president, Jimmy Carter. I'm not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it's an interesting coincidence." -Rep. Michele Bachmann, on the 1976 Swine Flu outbreak that happened when Gerald Ford, a Republican, was president, April 28, 2009
"That's why people need to continue to go to the town halls, continue to melt the phone lines of their liberal members of Congress, and let them know, under no certain circumstances will I give the government control over my body and my health care decisions." -Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), a pro-lifer who completely missed the irony of using the same slogan as the pro-choice movement in arguing against health care reform
"Carbon dioxide is portrayed as harmful. But there isn't even one study that can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas." -Rep. Michelle Bachmann, April, 2009
"There are hundreds and hundreds of scientists, many of them holding Nobel Prizes, who believe in intelligent design." -Rep. Michele Bachmann, Oct. 2006
"If you're involved in the gay and lesbian lifestyle, it's bondage. It is personal bondage, personal despair and personal enslavement." — Senator Michele Bachmann, speaking at EdWatch National Education Conference, November 6, 2004.
On her March 2004 rally against same-sex marriage: "And I want to tell you, that was probably the most loving, warm-spirited, most beautiful rally that I have ever seen at the Capitol." — Senator Michele Bachmann, speaking at EdWatch National Education Conference, November 6, 2004.
"You have a teacher talking about his gayness. (The elementary school student) goes home then and says "Mom! What's gayness? We had a teacher talking about this today." The mother says "Well, that's when a man likes other men, and they don't like girls." The boy's eight. He's thinking, "Hmm. I don't like girls. I like boys. Maybe I'm gay." And you think, "Oh, that's, that's way out there. The kid isn't gonna think that." Are you kidding? That happens all the time. You don't think that this is intentional, the message that's being given to these kids? That's child abuse." — Senator Michele Bachmann, speaking at EdWatch National Education Conference, November 6, 2004.
@Shuklack -- Other than not understanding her first quote reference, I believe in every other quote you attribute to her. Genius? Not sure but it is what I believe and the truth too.
Ben - I asked this question the other day about jobs and the way people insist that our current President is the reason for the downfall in May.
Is it possible (no I'm not really Happy with him either) that between the devastating Tornadoes and the 100 yr record flooding all across the Midwest that, that has had an extremely large impact on the job growth. Not to mention the reduction in Commerce considering that the Coast Guard closed many parts of the Mississippi during the month of May.
Or are we so blinded as a Society that if we can't BLAME someone for What Mother Nature deals us we're just not happy. Take the Blinders off people. Yes OUR politicians (both sides) are a Three Ring Circus with no apparent Ring Leader, but much of the economic downturn also has to be a result of one of the Worst Weather patterns in years. Long Winter delayed the start of Construction. Heavy Rains and violent weather also hamper construction and Job growth.
All I'm saying is there is a definite problem in Washington but not ALL of the Job problems stem from there.
@Bem-636050
The first reference she blamed "but didn't blame" a democratic administration, when it was actually a republican.
Carbon Dioxide as 'harmful' - she plainly does not understand the science and what role carbon dioxide plays in the atmosphere.
100's of scientists, some with nobel prizes, believe in ID - this is a flat out lie.
Yes, anti-gay rallies are real 'loving' with signs like "Burn in hell fags!" - seriously? You must be kidding me.
I could go on, but there comes a point when pointing out the obvious to the intellectually bankrupt is a pointless exercise.
the story was 5 reasons to take Bachmann serious ..... did I miss something? .... how does Vitter and Weiner become a reason to take Bachmann serious ... does it just go with out saying that Bachmann is not to be taken serious ?... if no one takes her serious why was this article put out there?
Hey Amy thanks for the shout out - it is awsome that even when I am sleeping that I am in your head.
I was just getting my Weiner on - I don't suppose any of you have actually read some of the crap that monkey wrote.
1. I love the whole he's a capped crusader, cap, tights and all and was out to kick so "tea-bagger" ass before the 11/10 election. Great job champ.
2. But better still are the tweets to the underaged school girl. Looking like Captain Weiner-head is going to the poky.
Oh and it's going to be a great day here - you all see what Obama's latest bright idea is to get the economy going? You libbies have to be absolutely beside yourselves.
So what happens when Obama starts adopting conservative ideas? Do yo all 1. yell and complain; or 2. start saying that those ideas are totally great?
I know what Feisty and Bev are going to say, how about you Drive By, Anna Molly, and especially you Old Navy. You are going to absolute,y love this new plan - it is the exact opposite of everything you stand for.
So do please stick around you all, and especially you Navy. :)
Bob(numbers), "We have also explained that even if you tax everyone in the 2% category (they wouldn't pay anyway- they are not stupid)) at a 100% rate - take everything - it wouldn't even cover Obama's deficit spending."
If you believe this to be true then why are you so hell bent on demanding taxes not be raised on the top 2%? If it doesn't matter then why do you care so much?
Joe in Albany
As for that scumbag Brietbart – my grampa used to always told me, there's a special place in hell for people like him!
______________________________________
Typical lefty liberal "kill the messenger" cop out.
It's time to move on. Weiner is toast. But, that doesn't absolve thee lying scumbag Breibart. He is not the messenger he's the Purveyor of hate and racism. He lied on ACORN and Shirley Sherrod. He should be hog tied and dragged around town to apologize for every underhanded edited video he put out. If he is so sorry. Why did he make the TV rounds to lie about the x-rated photo he wouldn't put out ; and how he felt sorry for Mrs. Weiner? I'll tell you why he wants to keep the story alive. That's this bigot's job to cause distractions so Democratics will be put in a box instead of getting legislature through.
I'm so sick of these lying retarded Republicans causing disunity. But, their time is coming people are waking up to their havoc.
Bachmann is nothing more than a puppet for the Republican party. She has not original ideas, and what she parrots is unintelligent crap.
On the other hand, Palenty is an excellent, fiscally minded person that oversaw a Minnesota legislature where the Democrats dominated in numbers both the house and senate. He understands matching revenue with spending, increased the MN state budget annually every year he was a governor and has ideas for job growth.
@ Ed.
You need a better comeback. If you tax the upper 2% 100% of their income, and it doesn't come close to solving the problem, then you haven't addressed the problem.
I'm not sure that bob was accurate, I did read in Forbes that if you too 100% of the income from every billionaire, you would have 100B left over in black ink. Of course, you can't take 100% of the billionaires money unless you truly believe in a socialism society. To me, this clearly points to a spending problem.
@Shuklack -- If Intelligent Design is the belief in God -- which is actually what it is -- there are 100s of scientists with Nobel and other credentials that believe in God. She is not lying.
Conservative readers will obviously disagree, but I think the second best thing that could happen for the Democratic Party and Obama in 2012 is for Bachmann to be chosen as the GOP nominee. The absolute BEST thing would be if Palin got it instead.
Trust me, this is no "careful what you wish for" situation for Democrats. Neither woman can achieve 40% of the popular vote and would thus lose in a landslide. The only thing better than either of them appearing on the GOP ticket, would be if both did. No way this country would elect either as president in a contest against Obama. If the Dems didn't have a sitting president to offer the country. I wouldn't be quite as sure. But that isn't going to be the case. Both, or either, woman can get a significant percent of the GOP vote, sure. But that isn't going to get it done against a sitting president, particularly one who is fairly popular and has had as many political successes as Obama has.
Neither Bachmann or Palin can unseat Obama, and I'd literally bet my life on it; I'm THAT sure. Bring 'em on. I take both "seriously"; they could both end up with the GOP nomination. But that doesn't mean they can "win".
@cdahl
Deficit comment aside. I'm wondering why if raising the taxes on the top 2% makes no difference in how much they pay then why do you care so much?
LouisJ.... I agree with you 100% about your comments about MSNBC. Ive noticed a decided tilt to the right which, with Chuck Todd, is not entirely unexpected. He is RARELY critical of the GOP when they is SO MUCH about which to be critical! He totally ignores the fact that Republicans deliberately created this debt crisis so they could privatize ALL the entitlements! ( The "starve the beast" strategy).
PS: 2 reasons not to pay attention to Bachmann: 1) because First Read said we should and 2) she's a LOON and the entire country knows it!
Looks like I haven't missed out one two much since helping some friends in the missouri valley get ready for the great missouri river flood of 2011.ust a few observations from some of the above posts.
LouisJ - Yes, united we stand, divided we fall. At least you got that part right. We no longer have any type of WH leadership to get the country pulling in the same direction. It is stupid for us to think that as long as our politicians wish to only think along the party line, we will have any hope of going forward.
Navy retired- As usual another misinformed post on how to further muddy the water and blather on how the right has it wrong. So sorry that the democrat politicians foibles have distracted you from carrying on your ignorance ( I was going to say stupidity, but I wanted to be nice)
Ok the Wiener has been rendered impotent. Now let's move on and create some jobs and do something to stimulate this sluggish economy. He was wrong and he has to pay the price, period. Done, now back to business.
Michelle- 107...-
Ok the Wiener has been rendered impotent. Now let's move on and create some jobs and do something to stimulate this sluggish economy. He was wrong and he has to pay the price, period. Done, now back to business.
To bad that the left makes the same types of mistakes as the right. Seems that when the shoe is on the other foot you have no problem with droning on and on and on, or condoning it.
bob-1805084 Very nice rebuttal to navy, amazing on how many people think that op ed pieces from the extreme fringe gets so much attention from the left
Well, time to kick back, rest and wonder just how high the flood waters of the Missouri will get
Post script... A warm thank you to Cargill (Blair, Ne), for all the tens of thousands of free sandbags and a thumbs down to the corp of engineers for ignoring why all those dams were built along the upper missouri. THEY ARE FOR FLOOD CONTROL, NOT RECREATION OR WILDLIFE HABITAT.
no joe, no bo, nj,
Hey. Just a note to let you know my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours. I sincerely hope you have the best outcome.
Ah, Bev. you are so damn precious. Really, dis-unity? So what would you say Weiner has caused?
And again Aquatone - the republican nominee is immaterial. It's the economy, and it sucks. I don't agree with it, I was just reading an article where the thought was if it get much worse - full double dip, Obama might not even run.
Now that was a throw away line, but only after it studied several economic indicators that suggest that 9 months from now it is going to be really, really bad.
I sure hope that is not the case, but right now it is not looking good. Down right gloomy. THe only question I have is will tomorrow's jobless nubers, which will be worse, be "un-expected" again?
I doubt if either Bachman or Pawlenty would win Minnesota as presidential candidates.
So this is what it's come down to in this country: shutting up the other party and making them look bad? (What was that about the republicans being the "party of no"?) Still, make no mistake, this happens on BOTH sides of the aisle. How in the world do we expect to succeed as a country if this is what we are about? Has everyone of all parties forgotten about the words negotiation and compromise? Are we all so selfish that we must have everything "our way or the highway"? Maybe we should change our name to the "Divided States of America" because we certainly aren't acting united any more. You do realize this gives our enemies an open door, as a divided group is much easier to defeat than a united one.
It's odd that the same people who seem to think terrorists aren't our enemies say that what we are doing in the Middle East is creating new enemies which obviously refer to terrorists. How could we be creating NEW enemies if there weren't old enemies to begin with. They wouldn't be NEW enemies, they would just be enemies. (Please note that I am not saying all terrorists come from the Middle East or that they belong to any one religion or group. Just thought I'd clarify that right now before someone goes off on me.) Again, don't assume I approve of all that our government is doing or has done in the Middle East. My main point is that we obviously have enemies there that would like to see us dead. The events of Sept 11, 2001 are proof of that if nothing else. (Please spare me your conspiracy theories. I was practically obsessed with Sept. 11 and have done loads of research on it.) Sheesh, with all the caveats maybe I should just erase this paragraph. Did I actually say anything?
Let me preempt the wise guy who will say, "No." Very funny. I know I said something. I just got frustrated with all the caveats.
Bob, belief in a god of some kind does not guarantee belief in Intelligent Design (ESPECIALLY the redneck dumb version Bachman and Palin run on). There are plenty of good scientists that believe in a god of some kind or some other being but I think you'd be hard pressed to find a nobel laureate who thinks that all scientists are conspiring about how wrong their carbon dating and data is and that the earth is really 6,000 years old.
Republicans have so many candidates that can beat Obama thet Democrats/liberals/socialist/communist/redistribucionist, are shooting everywhere to kill a bird.
You guys left out two other examples demonstrating what an idiot Bachmann is (not that the case needs any more support):
1. Thinks that the American Revolution freed the slaves
2. Told a crowd in New Hampshire that theirs was the state of Lexington and Concord, and the "shot heard 'round the world". When the gaff was pointed out to her, she said that even the people that live in these parts make the same mistake. No, we don't.
And this moron home-schooled her kids... does that count as child abuse?
Five reasons to take Bachmann seriously
always faithfull:
This will be my last post to you. Clearly you are not interested in a discussion - you want a shouting match. There was no guessing whatsoever in my post. You simply do not understand the use of the generic "you".
Now, as to the question you asked, "How come no one on this DEMOCRATIC PROPOGANDA SPIN SPIN BOARD ever discusses Obama's dismal approval rating?" I answered it. However, you weren't happy with that and chose to discuss the election of 2010. The President ran for office in 2008. You make the mistake of assuming that the election of 2010 was a referendum on Obama. It was a stand alone election for 1/3 of the Senate, and the full House. That's the way it works in the United States.
You may recall the Republicans promised to repeal the health care bill - an impossibility. They also promised to get that jobs, jobs, jobs thing going. If there is a conclusion that can be drawn from the election of 2010, it is that Republicans are liars.
It is not possible to make an "objective" assessment of the current Obama ratings when those ratings are based purely upon subjective opinions that change from month to month.
The fact is, you just want to argue. Have at it. No amount of facts or reasoned responses are going to budge you from your ideology, your identity politics, and your steady diet of dogma food and fool-ade.
@ed.
Because I am getting a little tired of people pointing at me, a small business owner and asking me to put more money into the system when GE pays ZERO tax, and I reinvest over 95% of our company earnings back into the business, which in turn has added jobs, inventory, assets and stability.
If you want to raise my taxes, fine. Then we all need to share the load. ERGO. Everybody pitches in. Including the 47% that pay no Federal Tax. Even if it is $5.00 per month.
If unemployment is 9.1% and Social Security and Medicare are ON THE TABLE with the budget talks/Debt Ceiling,...
by what calculator do 47% pay NO Federal Tax? Is SS not a 'tax'? I'll wait for your answer, cdahl.
@ Clara.
Fair enough. 47% do not pay federal income tax. And thank you for pointing out that SS is a tax, as well as medicare. To me government mandated distributions from paychecks that fund specific government programs should be considered tax, and added to the 33% that I currently pay.
Excellent post, Jim Hayes, and right on the money (pun intended) but if you take a quick read of this site, most of the right wing posters on here either chose to not understand what you posted or just plain do not understand what you posted. When it comes to economics, they are woefully uninformed, outright lie, or make fallacious cause and effect arguments. More often than not, they are arguing for economic policies that would hurt them and do not even realize it, especially the paid trolls.
Hey, Joe in Albany, did you send the $100 check to the Obama reelection campaign? I really couldn't care less how much you sent to anyone else (seriously, you could send $1,000,000 to the Bachmann campaign and I wouldn't care), I just want to know if you kept your word.
I always find it hilarious to watch Todd and the others at First Read try to speak to the conservative mind-set in any manner. All they do is just show exactly how out of touch they are when playing "journalists".
Most conservatives view Bachmann -- like the Tea Party Express -- as an irritating, narcissistic, blow-hard gnat. Yes she gets your attention, but not for the right reasons. Were it not for the main stream media's Palin-like obsession with her, nobody would know who she was -- again like the Tea Party Express. She will not pull numbers from Cain's supporters and she will be an also-ran by the middle of February.
5 Reasons to NOT take Michelle Bachmann seriously:
Ok. If you consider it a tax, then don't expect it back. Ever.
Are you seriously insinuating that no person should expect to see any benefit from any tax they pay? Or have you completely bought into that whole "class warfare"/"success envy" thing that this administration has been and is attempting to foster?
BTW, here is Merriam-Webster's definition of "tax": A charge usually of money imposed by authority on persons or property for public purposes.
The SS payroll deduction is a tax -- and a forced government sponsored Ponzi scheme -- and so is Medicare. These programs are progressive in nature because the return per dollar contributed for the low-income wage earner is much higher than the return per dollar contributed for the high-income wage earner. So cdahl pays the tax and then doesn't get as good a return solely because he/she is personally successful. He/she is already not getting as much back, now you want him/her to get nothing...nice.
@ cdahl
You might want to talk with Bob then because he says it doesn't matter how much you raise taxes people still figure out a way not to pay them because they're too smart.
Mike in SA
hooey. There is no phase out of SS benefits. You reach the age, you get the benefit. McCain personally receives three SEPARATE government payouts INCLUDING SS.
Of course it's a tax. It's specifically called Payroll Taxes. ???
XXX
Triple X??
Is that some sort of secret coded message to Anthony Weiner??
You really are an A$$hole. I just moved my post, sorry nothing sinister about that.
Goddamnit, Joe- I told you guys last week that that XXX business is from the movie titles on the DVD's over at the 'C Street' house. Pay attention, will you?
Looks like California Tom knows the Weiner code also (#4.0 below).
Navy, is this some sort of lefty liberal secret society thing??
BTW, I hope you don't use your foul mouth to kiss your mother/wife/children.
Triple X is as X-rated as it gets. Any more x's and it would get to be bombastic.
Say it ain't so Joe,
It seems when a Dem does something stupid like Weiner its an offense against all that we as a people hold dear but when its a Paciderm its a personal matter. GOP covered up or ignored Mark Foley from 2001 to 2006 in 2001 male pages were warned to "Watch out for Foley", 2005 page complains to his Congressman about Foley and he does not report it eventually the complaint and EMails go to Hastert who ignores them until the page goes public. John Ensign alibied and covered up from 2008 by Tom Osbourne and others until exposed by the wifes husband in 2009 does not resign until 2011. David Vitter panderer and serial prostitute humper is not investigated for using his office to book hookers and is not questioned on misuse of funds it is a private matter between him and his wife. Blanche Palfrey his madam hangs herself Vitter never censured still a GOP front man. In No paticular order Clarence Thomas, Bob Packwood, Mark Sanford, Newt Gingrich, Larry Craig, Jim Gibbons, Don Sherwood, Jack Ryan, Ed Schrock,Neil Bush and over 100 lesser lights on staffs and state legislatures frm guys soliciting gay sex with a teenager dressed as a Panda to molestation of 11 yr olds none of which received the same attention as Scandals on the Democratic side. I personally don't care what consenting adults do and it should be their business to be hashed out with their families but the behavior does seem somewhat more outrageous when it comes from representitives of a party who constantly speak as moral arbiters and then do nothing to police their own at any level of politics.
JKH
USNDVR...."you are an a$$hole".......is that really absolutely necessary?..........or did you just see Obama's approval rating too??
Always unfaithful:
You can join Joe.
USNDVR - You disappoint me......I thought you were an intellectual.....sorry....my mistake.
Always, real intellectuals actually come up with their own ideas, projects or conversations. Navyboy regurgitates a plethora of other people opinions in a rage of cut and paste events. I still have yet to find out exactly what it was he did in the Navy, since I was a senior non com in the navy when I got out after 10 years. On several ships (anti submarine warfare) and as part of Mobile weapons team supporting SEAL teams 2 and 4.
Like to be a fly on the wall when the Clinton's gave the Weiner their advice.
"or did you just see Obama's approval rating too??"
Obama's approval ratings across the polls found here: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_obama_job_approval-1044.html You will note he is still at +2.8, even with the WaPo negative poll.
Here you can compare his approval ratings to other presidents during the same time periods in their presidencies. http://www.gallup.com/poll/124922/Presidential-Approval-Center.aspx With a few exceptions, you can see many of the presidents had similar or lower ratings at this point, notably Reagan and Clinton.
And wasn't the article about Bachmann?
Yes, the article was about Bachmann, but it's a common practice by the right wing to distract any debate away from embarrassments and inconsistencies that can't be defended.
alwaysfaithful and jollyoldsole
One thing is for sure, you little tea-bagging instigators:
An intellectual doesn't start in on someone in a coordinated manner with a co-poster (really co-troll), with the sole goal of inflaming emotions using a string of personal attacks.
That's what I see you numb skulls do every day to Navy and other regulars.
At least they're real people posting their own opinions and not loser trolls who have nothing but insults.

Case Closed...
Now come back down to earth and live in the real world!!
Both sides engage in this sick behavior so don't give me or anyone else this sh-t about the dems don't do this and the repubs do because we all know better!!
I think we learned a lesson from Bill Clinton's behavior. I think anyone who behaves like this does not belong in public office-- period.
How do you explain Republicans allowing Ensign and Vitter to remain in office while calling for Weiner to resign? I call it hypocrisy.
The case most similar to rep weiner's is the case of rep. Chris Lee;
GOP Rep. Chris Lee resigns over shirtless photo on Web
WASHINGTON — Rep. Chris Lee, R-N.Y., abruptly resigned Wednesday after the gossip website Gawker disclosed that the married congressman had e-mailed a shirtless picture of himself to a woman he met through Craigslist.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2011-02-09-lee-resigns-amid-scandal_N.htm
He was forced to resign in a day.
Hypocrisy and selective outrage are the province of just about every partisan here when it comes to one of their own...
dangerfield,
Did it occur to you that Lee probably KNEW there was much more to his story so he ran and hid? He wasn't FORCED to resign,...he CHOSE to resign.
I think Weiner should step down; but not for the sexting; but rather the full court press denial that turned out to be a big LIE.
Lee avoided any further mention of what else was out there by immediately bouncing off the scene.
I wonder why David Vitter wasn't brought up on charges? I thought the oldest profession in the world was still illegal in this country?

Did it occur to you that Lee probably KNEW there was much more to his story so he ran and hid?

They ALL know...and your "comment" reinforces the point...
Hypocrisy and selective outrage are the province of just about every partisan here when it comes to one of their own...
Do you have any evidence that he was forced to resign? Or did he just choose to resign?
Charctine
dangerfield rarely uses evidence. He fancies himself a 'provocateur' of sorts. Not that there is anything wrong with that,...
I am not siding with Weiner, df. So I don't get the 'selective outrage' reference.
Steeler Fan: I think we learned a lesson from Bill Clinton's behavior?
The democratically controlled Senate exonerated Mr. Clinton and essentially OK'd this very type of behavior. They don't have a leg to stand on with Vitter, Ensign, Sanford or any of the others, whether their party or not. Maybe if they had cleaned their kitchen 12 years ago Weiner's weiner wouldn't be "up" for debate. Cads.
I am not siding with Weiner, df. So I don't get the 'selective outrage' reference.
Citing moral equivalence is tantamount to "selective outrage"...

As to your "characterization";
I Always include links and citations as I have above;. And I am an independent, non-partisan, so my posts tend to get bashed by BOTH silly sides, but thanks for the attempt to define me...
Hypocrisy and selective outrage are the province of just about every partisan here when it comes to one of their own...
I agree Dangerfield Im in the same boat Im also an independent, but at this time Im leaning Center right! I have no room for Ms Pelosi or Mr. Reid in my life. But I have noticed that Clara there loves to hit and run with nasty comments. And Clara prostitution is not illegal in all of the United States! As distasteful as it may be to some people there are men and women making a living legally from this profession.
oh, JOS, if you think my stuff is 'nasty' - you must have an incredibly thin skin.
df, you RARELY cite internet links or sources. You can copy and paste with the best of them,...but almost ALWAYS as retaliatory to someone else's post. If you don't like the characterization, change the perception. I just read through EVERY comment you've made so far in June and I could find not a single citation. I can only imagine what your college papers looked like.
By the way,...why so defensive? You used to be able to take what you gave,...those were some good times.
With Weiner it was some .jpgs on a screen. Big fn deal.
With republicans it's breaking the law like Vitter hiring prostitutes for diaper sex!
For christ sake he's still in the senate!
Tell me how that's ok but we have to burn Weiner at the stake for some computer pixels?
Oh, Vitter is a Republican I forgot. That's why.
It's not about whether you lie to the media. It is about what you lie about, and for how long you do it, and how much influence and money you use to try to hide the ugly truth.
How about John Boehner and Dennis Hastert trying to cover up, for almost a year, representative Mark Foley sexually harassing underage boys? Why is that ok? Not only ok let's make one of them Speaker of the House?
But Weiner has some pixelated .jpgs not even existing in the physical realm, and it's witch-hunting time.
Oh they're republicans so I guess it's ok that they can let Mark Foley keep his job as co-chair on the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus while attempting to keep wraps on his actions.
But a .jpg of a man's crotch that Andrew Breitbart got his dirty fingers on? OMG!
Such hypocrisy.
Dangerous Mind
How about Boehners alleged affair, two to be exact.

Five reasons to not take Michele Bachmann seriously:
1. She's Michele Bachmann.
2. She's Michele Bachmann.
3. She's Michele Bachmann.
4. She's Michele Bachmann.
5. She's Michele Bachmann.
Do you see a pattern?
I have always hoped to see a woman elected President but in my view it would be a woman of accomplishment, intelligence and vision. The Republicans have yet to show me that they have such a woman in their likely candidates.
Obama/ Hillary 2012. Baby steps........first female Vice President is a start.
Naw,
More like Romney/Bachman 2012....unbeatable
How much would you like to bet me on your "sure thing"? I'll even give you odds...
Again.....Noid! that was my point from an earlier post. I was listening to El rushbo yesterday. ( uncommon for me) and he had a caller who sounded very intelligent claimed he was a poly Sci professor at a university in Tenn I believe. Claimed to be a absolute liberal. His main point was that there are several Republicans that in his own words, "all my liberal associates are fearful that several republicans can beat Mr Obama if he runs on his record. Sarah Palin and Bachman being two of them. He also said that the tell tale sign a liberal knows this is by how vicious and prolonged the attacks are on that or those people. He gave the example of Gingrich, you barely hear anything about him because liberals dont fear him! As an Independent I think this guy is on to something, I have noticed the patterns he described ......right here on this blog......today even!
JOS
Either YOU are lying or Rush is,...he would NEVER let an ACTUAL liberal get past screening on his radio show. There are examples of him hanging up on people once they go off his carefully scripted message.
Im sure you can check it out! I know what I heard! Let me see if I can find it for you. I despise being called a liar! here we go right on his page! Go have a read the transcripts are all there! And you can apologize too!
A Self-Described Lib from Branson on Why the Democrats Fear Palin
@Jolly
It's not just libs that find the very thought of Bachmann or Palin in the Oval Office as utterly terrifying. It sends shivers down my spine and makes my stomach knot, and I'm a Republican.
The libs may mock her, but there are indeed enough people in the good ol' USofA that share the complete lack of intellectual capacity as Bachmann and Palin. That is what's so scary - that America has become such an intellectual vacuum that people like Bachmann MIGHT actually have a chance.

Below are only 2 of dozens of utterly MORONIC things that Bachmann has vomited forth.
"There are hundreds and hundreds of scientists, many of them holding Nobel Prizes, who believe in intelligent design." -Rep. Michele Bachmann, Oct. 2006
"Carbon dioxide is portrayed as harmful. But there isn't even one study that can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas." -Rep. Michelle Bachmann, April, 2009
People who do not understand fact nor care to are not to be taken seriously. There is a reason we have a difference in definition between smart and un intelligent. Simply because you wish it to be true does not make it so. I know many Christians believe the end to be near which is absurd. I believe she has made it quite clear she is one of them. So how would we be so selfish to expect one of her nature to take into ANY consideration, the FUTURE? Hmm. Quite perplexing you say? Not really because the answer to the equation is simple. And it being as simple as it is we know that in fact her lunacy will be her own undoing.
We all now KNOW trickle down tax cuts do not trickle even a drop. Ten years now of what Bush created in the Bush man tax plan and we are struggling as a nation are we not? So we must acknowledge that without government we have NO society to even have this discussion. We must have a fine government that helps along our nation to develop. Do you think we would even be this far thru history without a Government to help? Because it is not as though these representatives our not the folks is it? They are us to some degree. Not martians I'm sure. We are all in this together and if we refuse to feel each others pain and to help one another instead choosing to remain in ones mind better than the rest well then we have failed. And America will not be spoken of again as a nation will it? Logic and stupidity have there place. Shall we choose where? ; ]
Cheers
Oxygen is a dangerous gas
I'd vote an Obama/Clinton (Hillary) ticket in a heartbeat! Both of them together have the means to make excellent decisions.
As for our current administration, all I can say is what I've said all along....until we get rid of lobbyists and the right for corporations and big businesses to basically "bribe" our politicians to vote on THEIR side, we'll NEVER have any solutions to what is happening to the middle class in America. Unfortunately, the big corporations can afford to bribe our politicians....all we do as middle men is pay their salaries, and they make SO much more from big business. This is WHY the middle class has NO chance of seeing any breaks from the current group of idiots that we have in Washington now. It's a sad day, and I can only think that our Founding Fathers are spinning in their graves to see what has happened to "Democracy" as they saw it!
The public perception of Michelle Bachmann as a Sarah Palin type baffoon will be hard to break....even with Ed Rollins running her campaign. She will pick up much of the Evangelical vote Huckabee would have gotten and she does raise lots of money in short periods of time. Still, its the image thing. The endless list of stupid comments and divisive remarks she's made that will be played 1,000 times in campaign ads that will stick with the voters. Additionally, she doesn't seems to attract the soccer moms as Hillary did.
I think it's hypocritical for the GOP to demand that Weiner resign for sexting when people like Vitter, a married man who hired a prostitute, was not asked too. The two acts aren't close to comparable.
One mans opinion, Rick Perry will be on the rented Pawlenty bus headed home after the first primary. His Tea Party schtick just will not play to the voters.
Until Bachmann can sit on Rollins' lap and have him pull a string coming outta the back of her neck, he can't keep her from displaying her inner dumbsh@t!!
Auntie - good one!
She can't win the New Hampshire primary, or the Massachusetts, for that matter. Maybe voters in other parts of the country don't care in which state the battles of Concord and Lexington happened, or which harbor was used to dump tea in New England...but in this part of the country...yeah, her ignorance was a big deal.
Amy I lived in Maine ( real mainers consider Portland Massachusetts) I lived in Presque isle! And yes I was "from away" I gotta tell you Amy I dont think I ever met a democrat when I lived there.
JOS
With your head buried in the sand like that, I'd be hard pressed to know you'd ever met ANYONE while in Maine,...
just sayin'.
“Mr. Corporation” is not elected by the people the way “Mr. Government” is.
I prefer using a very simple illustration that may make some people see why they are being misled on who is for them and who is against them between the two Giants; Corporations (Private sector) and The Government.
We the people (voters) need to understand that even though majority of us work for "Mr. corporation", "Mr. Corporation" is not elected by we the people and therefore is always free to do whatever pleases "him" without any fear of being "him" ("Mr. Corporation") being held accountable the way we hold "Mr. Government" accountable as "Mr. Government" is elected by us.
"Mr. Corporation", for example, has continued to pay majority of American workers low wages at the 1990s rates without considering the magnitude by which the cost of living has risen. For example; In 1998 at a time Gas price was only 0.78 cents/gallon, a Mr. Xworked for "Mr. Corporation" at $8.50/hr and would spend only $11 dollars to fill his gas tank. 15 years later (Year 2011) "Mr. Corporation" is still shamefully paying Mr. X $8.50/hr when gas price alone is $4.00/gallon without considering the fact that the same Mr. X presently has to spend $60.00 to fill the same gas tank from the same stagnant 1998 pay rate of $8.50/hr.
(Employment Agencies, for example, have been paying workers $7.50/hr since the mid 1990s and are still paying the same rate of $7.50/hr today the year 2011. Republicans need to understand that millions of American workers can not even afford to buy food from the stores and are terrible hurting as Republicans continue to support low pay by corporations)
Because "Mr. Government" is elected by the people and is accountable to them, "he" has tried to pay "his" workers more fairly in consideration to the rising cost of living. People working for "Mr. Government" are therefore better off than those working for "Mr. Corporation". At least they have had their pay rates go up with the rising cost of living. I consider this to be a fair practice by "Mr. Government" which most Democrats support, unfortunately, majority of Republicans hate it because they want "Mr. Government" to pay the same low rates "Mr. Corporation" pays "his" workers so that "Mr. corporation can continue to report abnormal profits.
In a capitalist state like America, the government has no mandate to tell corporations how much they need to pay their workers. Corporations therefore pay their workers very low rates as they report billions of profits in their annual financial statements.
______________________________________________
If Republicans want Corporations to be the main sector that is responsible for people's daily activities in terms of employment and management of various services then it would be proper for Corporations (the private sector) also to be elected by the people the same way the government is elected by the people and is accountable to the people. Corporations should in a way be accountable to the people the same way the government is.
Currently, some corporations, being supported by Republicans, are deliberately not hiring workers until the government gives them tax cuts and they do this knowing that they are not accountable to the voters so there is nothing voters can do to hold them accountable. What can American voters do to corporations that deliberately sit on their money and refuse to hire workers with an intention of sabotaging the economy? The answer is--Nothing. Instead it is the government that takes the blame for the sufferings that people undergo due to evil activities by some corporations.
If Corporations deliberately refuse to hire then voters need to let the government hire. There will therefore be a healthy competition between the two and that is Democracy. Let their Republican backers not say that the government is taking over from them. The government really struggles to create jobs because the government knows that it is accountable to the people. In contrast, Corporations can sabotage whatever the government is doing knowing that there is nothing that voters can do to them instead voters will just blame the innocent one and that is the government.
Its their money, NOT YOURS! You do realize that for every public gov job 4 or 5 private sector jobs are needed to pay the costs of that Gov hire!
JOS: Are you kidding? Sam has explained it very succinctly. Corporations basically run this country lately based on the money they spend to "buy" our politicians. You and I have NOTHING to say when it comes to how things will get taken care of. We might as well vote for corporations since they are like foxes in the hen house now!! As Sam explained, the government has "TRIED" to pay their employees fairly based on the COLA, but corporations are not bound by that and can pay whatever the employee will accept (and lately, most newly-hired employees are taking HUGE cuts in pay just to get ANY job to support their families, which is sad). If corporations were as fair as our government when it comes to paying employees, we wouldn't have many of the problems we currently have!
One reason not to take MB seriously; she is an elitest, reality dodging politicial who will not answer tough questions or even attempt tp. She reads from the playbook like a broken tape recorder. She cannot, and should not ne trusted.
I particularly like the fact she refused to debate the high school student on the Constitution. The student would have wiped the floor with Bachmann!
Is that anything like a Community Organizer running a country?
at least the community organizer won the debates,...
Which debate was that, the one that was held in our 57th state? My hope is that he will get a chance to debate Herman Cain...
as long as Cain's prep isn't longer than 3 pages,...I think my President will do just fine,...
I like how an immediately corrected misspeak is equivalent to a double down on revisionist history. Happy Friday,...
One reason not to take MB seriously; she is an elitest, reality dodging politicial who will not answer tough questions or even attempt tp. She reads from the playbook like a broken tape recorder. She cannot, and should not ne trusted.
With respect to the business payroll tax idea. It just seems that the more incentives that the feds give to businesses, fewer jobs get created. Reduce business tax on payroll and increase the companies profits. No new jobs. No trickle down. No new jobs, Obama more and more vulnerable in 2012.
Rather than a proposal that seems like a tax gas holiday, how about providing tax incentives or credits to companies based upon the number of people they hire. A one year incentive that can be extended. The more you hire, the higher the incentive.
One addition to the list, Chris Christie. He is now asking for unions to give up their collective bargaining rights and pay more for medical and pension benefits.
Right out of the Wisconsin playbook.
Groucho Marx - President Obama proposed a plan to give tax breaks to corporations that would bring jobs back from overseas. GOP put so many riders on it and refused to give it an up or down vote - it died. GOP at it's best - again!
Gee, now we know why GE's Immelt announced they're bringing all those jobs back to the US..LOL!!
And W. Goin, what's the difference between tax breaks and the already in place tax loopholes? Don't they pretty much amount to the same thing and achieve the same goal?
This election is a "pivotal contest" where, if the winners are Conservatives, not Rhinos, than there "will be" a major shift away from Euro Socialism, The Democrats, and back to what Sarah Palin calls, "..founding principles, in order to promote the Fundamental Restoration of America…"
Republicans "demand adherence to principled candidates" as evidenced in the G.H.Bush/Perot lesson for raising taxes.
Which is why:
(1) Romney can't win because of RomneyCare, Abortion Flip/Flop, now Global Warming, Supported the assault weapons ban, Increased taxes, and a host of "principled" failures where he advocated big government programs. The Evangelicals won't vote for him. He is good with a buck but a political chameleon.
(2) Bachman, Tax Attorney, plenty Tea Party street cred BUT she seems a bit "off kilter" in some ways for me. A little to Pelosi like in some odd way. Could live a lifetime and never see another Stretch Face Nancy.
(3) Huntsman, fluent in Mandarin, is a Rhino. The definition of an Insider Elite that won't fly this election cycle.
(4) Pawlenty has "no zip". Simply doesn't inspire a "let's rock & roll" spirit. He has the least negatives of the others. Too Whitebread.
(5) Bachman, Tax Attorney, plenty Tea Party street cred BUT she seems a bit "off kilter" in some ways for me. A little to Pelosi like in some odd way. Could live a lifetime and never see another Stretch Face Nancy.
(6) Palin, my pick. Why? She "punched corrupt Republicans in the face" up in Alaska and exposed hypocrite Republican Governor Murkowski and Oil company "payola". She cleaned house. Way cool.
Palin can't be bought by even "fellow Republicans" and there is zero chance of a Democrat succeeding. She is a complete 180 of what "were used to" and we need that now.
The history of America has shown times like when Teddy and Reagan, were needed so that the "hokey bull moose or hokey cowboy" comes into office and "cleanses the stench of failure" for a course of years with good ole "simple plain spoken Americans" who do not lie all the time.
Then America will begin another cycle of electing good, bad, ugly, and winners to the office.

This is the first and last Palin Support message I will respond to...
Palin is a clueless and classless idiot that couldn't even be saved if she had a teleprompter in front of her that showed an Easter Bunny. She would say it's a Cougar. But please continue to support her.
I appreciate your genuine and resolute stance on all this. It takes brass to stand up and support this woman.
American Dude - Todd?? Might as well be Todd the way your kissing Sarah's backside.
"Punched Corrupt Republicans in the Face" Really?? You don't know much about Sarah do you?
$6 million in Earmarks while Mayor of Wasilla...Built Huge Icerink in Wasilla, only to find out after it was done, that the town didn't even own the land. that cost the City of Wasilla an extra $1 million. ...Fired the Librarian because she refused to ban books in the PUBLIC Library. Yeh YOU go for it, She's a real winner
American Dude - how sad you see the world through right wing tinted glasses which have no view of the truth. If the GOP wins it will be class warfare against the middle class - which Bush already targeted. The socialism crap is old and tired. The word is used to scare the uneducated who don't actually understand that you are lying. Try to think up something new. And, please, run Palin. She is the most ignorant person I have ever seen in the political arena or for that matter - in a number of places. As a female I find it insulting that this woman is supposed to be the best the GOP has. But, maybe she actually IS the best the GOP has. That in itself speaks volumes.
If the socialism crap is old and tired, then why do you lebs always use it in your agenda? Do you libes even understand communisim/socialism? It means the government is every thing and must always take control and control the populace, in a nut shell. You should try reading karl Marx's Communist Manifisto and put what he says into perspective on how this country is being run, by both parties. The repubs understand what the tea party is about and knows that this will just get bigger. Besides, if you really took a hard look at the founding of this country you would notice that the republican party is the party of the founders.
Now, 2 questions for all libs on here.
1. When the US was founded, where the individual states (colonies) considered "sovereign" states?
2. Who created the federal government?
There are a lot more questions I could ask but if you can answer these, you might be on your way to freeedom and liberty with a limited government.
It was much 'easier' (rather 'simpler') to idealogue LIMITED government when we were talking about a couple of hundred thousand people and far less technology. As our population has grown, so has our need for protection from DOMESTIC enemies (as well as foreign) and by that I mean CORPORATISTS who would deregulate their parent's oxygen tank if it would save them a buck.
A country of SUCH Wealth and Plenty as ours with a population of 350 MILLION is greater in scope than your Libertarian leanings seem able to grasp.
If you're looking for an honest candidate Sarah is the last place you should be looking. She doesn't know how to tell the truth.
Hey Dude, if you were in the US military, thats about as "socialist" as it gets in the USA! All E-4s get the same pay, all 0-3s get the same pay with a differential for pilots (flight pay), physicians (pro pay) and some other specialities. Free on base housing, shop at the PX or BX, commissary, retire in 20 years with 50% of base pay. Thats smacks of "socialism".
Hitobito,
and don't forget the medical,...socialized for life and spouses, too!
Clara, I disagree and I am not a libertarian. I am an independet and I concider myself center right. I have studied the founding of our country and those principles it was founded on and beleive that if we had stayed on that path, we would/could be a much greater country than we are even today.
We used to be the "shining light on the hill" but have lost that. Keeping the government within the bounds of the Constitution is very relevent in todays America in order to get us back in a good fiscal standing. We can not and will never be able to spend ourselfs to prosperity.
Keeping out government in check does not mean that we will keep the poor down and have no safty net for those that need them, but these safty nets need to be limited and needs to be done at the state government level, this is nothing the feds should ever be doing and is not constitutional. If all of these make me feel good policies the feds are doing that is bankrupting us was within the bounds of the constitution, the founders would have not given us that very important document and intead could have just appointed Washington king of America for life.
Besides, you failed to answer the questions.
sonmanvb..
The states were sovereign under the Articles of Confederation, which was the first written constitution of the US. Ratified in1781, the Articles legitimized the Congress in its supervision of the American Revolution, its diplomacy with Europe, and its handling of territorial issues. The Articles proved weak and ineffective and after extensive debate it was replaced by the current Constitution in 1789.
We are a Union and not a Confederation and fought a civil war to preserve it. You're spouting Tea Party nonsense as to what the founding fathers intended. They intended to have a Constitution that they ratified in 1789.
Congrats Marx, that was the correct answer, however, I would say that we are a union of "sovereign" states and the states ratified the constitution to give the federal government limited powers written in artical 8 section 3 of the constitution and the 10th amendment if you read both as they were intended.
In section3 of artical 8, there is a semicolon (;) just before the 18 powers are listed. Most who read this section misunderstand what that semicolon (;)
"The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;"
This is also where liberals get the "general Welfare" clause. But this clause is intended by the founders to be able to carry out the 18 things it did list keeping in mind the "general Welfare" of the union of states. Not to do what ever the government wanted to do. The 10th amendment and the civil war is another debate/conversation. But I will say this, while I do admire Lincoln, I do feel that he had a constitutional autority to go to war to keep the southern states from seceeding whil at the same time, the southern states did need to abolish slavery. Could Lincoln have found a better way to do that? I don't know. By the way, I am not from the south. Just trying to learn how and why we got to where we are today.
Sorry, I missed typed and could not get it changed in time. I ment Artical1 Section 8 on the above.
American Dude: How wrong you are -- Palin can be bought by ANYONE that will give her money to spout her stupidity. For someone who wants to be president (possibly), you'd think she'd be intelligent enough to read up on her history before visiting a historical site. Not knowing anything about Paul Revere's ride is totally ridiculous....even my 11-year-old niece knows the story of Paul Revere's ride!! For someone who can "see Russia from Wassila," she's got a long way to go before she'd be considered presidential (or even senate) material. I have many Republican friends who wouldn't vote for her if she were the only one running and who did not vote for McCain because of her. By the way, I've been to Wassila (and to Alaska), and you definitely CANNOT see Russia from there, and most Alaskans that you talk to do NOT like her at all!!
I take nobody in the GOP or BAGGER BRIGADE seriously, they are a bunch of has beens and wanna bees, with a few like Bat%%it Bachman thrown in for fun. They haven't got one good idea between them, except their constant drumbeat to destroy Medicare and SS. Which is totally laughable, I dare them to proceed with that idea. Both Bachman and Palin are brainless power hungery media whores, throw in Giuliani, and the ever exciting Mitt and Santorum and Pawlenty, good God what a group.
What happens in sports when a "lock" doesn't take an opponent seriously? That's why the president will raise $1 billion to ward off a joke?? Hmmmm.
The real problem and danger with Michelle Bachman is that the basis for her decision making is rigidly fixed by a single point of view. In other words her decisions are not formulated from a wide objective view and intrepretation of the facts, instead her decisions source from a narrow belief system which ignores reality in favor a formula which she believes is the answer to everything. These people are easily taken advantage of since their reactions are so predictable. They are very proud of their 'formula" and will boast of its veracity. Its kind of like going to a poker table with your hand showing. To the naive she looks like a brave soul defending principle, to those who are wiser, she looks like fool. She would be a disaster in any position of national importance.
FR:
That doesn't even make sense. John Ensign, Diaper Man Vitter, and "Wide Stance" Larry Craig don't stop Republicans from attacking Democrats that have gone astray, so why should Clinton stop Democrats from attacking Republicans? It has nothing to do with Clinton. The simple fact that the corporate media won't admit is that the Republicans use hypocrisy as a political weapon and Democrats don't.
Of course, Democrats can be hypocrites, but hypocrisy is not fundamental to Democratic politics. Democrats as a group have some interest in actually governing, Republicans care only for winning elections and handing out goodies to their corporate clients after they do win. Republicans don't even have to bother with the tedious job of writing legislation because they let the corporate lobbyists write it for them. Republicans will say and do anything to win, and they simply don't care if what they say today is the exact opposite of what they said yesterday as long as the media are gullible enough to buy it without calling them out for it. And the Republicans can always count on the gullibility of the media.
And the 30 years of Defunding of SCHOOL's Sure Show's!
How Easy it is to Lead The MASSES , AND BLAME Everybody BUT, Themselves.
The SAME Masses PAYING for The WEALTHY Free Ride!
Ouch. I'm not normally the grammar police, but throw in an occasional verb, please.
I won't even touch on capitalization and punctuation.
Whenever I See MS. BECK-MANN on T.V. at Any Event She is ALWAY'S Camera HUNTING and SUCKING UP!
She will be As FLAKY as PALIN in Debates, about REAL ISSUES!
She is as qualified as Sarah Paul Revere Palin and the rest of the parade of fools in the so called contest. The biggest shame is that out of 300+ million people in our republic, we are being led by people who I wouldn't trust to run the 3rd shift of Dunkin Donuts.
Agreed and he is called Obooba
After GOP Senator Kyl got caught lying about Planned Parenthood, his henchman issued a statement that Kyl's false claim was "not intended to be a factual statement." And now Kyl is threatening block raising the debt ceiling, causing the government default on its debt unless he gets 2.5 trillion in budget cuts. There's no reason to wonder why the economy is so bad when you have idiots like him who've made a career of lying and screwing things up.
Houston!
You are spot on, sadly he is retiring and I am putting my money on the fact that Saguaro Sarah is make a dash for that Senate seat. (See Palin buys compound in Scottsdale). With that said, I'd rather Kyl stay in the Senate, lies and all. The devil you KNOW and all that,...

Arrrgh! I hadn't even thought of that, and I haven't even seen that possibility mentioned in the lame stream media. But that might explain her move to Arizona, which seemed odd to me. She could take Kyl's place as the do-nothing, lying Senator from Arizona. It sure beats working!
Houston/Clara: Palin won't run for the Senate....it would mean a cut in pay from her FAUX News job! Besides, her narcicissim (sp) probably won't allow her to take such a drop in status!! On FAUX News, she has an open forum to spout her stupidity....in the Senate, she'd be overpowered by more intelligent, better speakers!
I can't wait for everyone to accuse her of carpet bagging the way they did with Hilary. Those were some good times.
She's part of the DC gang and bows to the RNC. No thanks.
furgitabboutit, it will be Romney vs Obama, the key states are: Florida, NC, Penn, Ohio, and Virginia.
yea, it is always the messengers fault, not the individual because god forbid the individual take the responsibility to conduct himself or herself appropiately for the kind of life they should be living.
1. Bachmann is a fruitcake.
2. As far as Rep. Weiner goes, if sexual scandals and lying were enough reason to get tossed from congress or the senate, there would no one left in Washington. Those things seem to be prerequisites for the job.
I will take fruitcake over liar anyday.
Betty-301392
How about raising standards in Washington D.C. starting RIGHT BUCKEN NOW. And that means that Nancy has to punt Anthony Weiner back over the Potomac - and if her kick falls short and he ends up mid-river, that would be OK, too.
I dunno-
Does "liar" have those little chewy pieces of dried fruit?
The reason the RepubliCons always seem to win arguments of the day is because Dems always try to play fair, and the RepubliCons don't play that. This is why Gore lost to Bush in the FL recount battle - according to most experts who studied the events. It is why "out of control spending" is winning against stimulus spending to jump start the economy and create jobs. It is why corporate welfare prevails while social safety nets like Medicare are under constant attack. The list is endless. It is also why David Vitter didn't resign, and John Ensign almost didn't resign if it wasn't for alleged criminal aspects involved, but while Anthony Weiner is under tremendous and rising pressure to resign. Rep Weiner didn't break any laws. The most common reason being given for calls for his resignation is the lies he has told. Show me a person, any person, who doesn't lie to hide cheating and I'll show you a bridge I'm selling for cheap!
Take Sarah seriously! Paul Revere warned the British that the British were coming.
1) She's running so we have to take her seriously?? Why??
2) She may or may not raise alot of money, the loonier she gets the more her donations will drop.
3) She will stand out in the debates?? So would the staue of David by Michelangelo.
4) Only female, again so what.
5) Tea-party darling?? Even the republicans know now that appeasing those racists won't win the election.
richard, I don't think that palin or Bachmann will get the nomination because the republican party is not ready to stand by a female for president as yet. But the the 1 reason the dems need to worry about both is that they will keep the focus on Obama and his failure as a president for the last 3 years and the dems can't afford for this to happen so all sorts of racist crap will get thrown out at those who oppose Obama, but it won't work any more. Your big spending party used it way too much during the ObamaCare debate and the 2010 elections so now us independents are immune to it. Your party should have saved that for the 2012 elections as it might have helped Obama get his 2nd term at destroying the US econ
Seriously? It is a shame anyone takes this dolt seriously. Her ridiculous errors in some speeches (like saying the founding fathers were against slavery when it is a well known fact that they had slaves) have lost her credibility much the same as when Palin talked about seeing Russia from her porch as being foreign policy experience, fumbling her responses due to lack of preparedness to discuss the Bush Doctrine or what newspapers she reads, and being caught with crib notes on her hands. True Republicans may welcome the diversion and even donate because their anti-Obama message gets spouted even if it contains errors, but few are really taking her seriously.
Actually Jefferson was against slavery, so not so fast. Jefferson was perplexed over this and did free a few slaves, though he still need to run his plantation.
So Nurse Lisa, get your facts straight before posting...and while Palin has made some gaffs, our President has made one BIG ONE: Hope & Change. Just what the heck does that translate into? More social programs and wealth re-distribution.
"Actually Jefferson was against slavery, so not so fast. Jefferson was perplexed over this and did free a few slaves, though he still need to run his plantation."
Jefferson did help craft some anti-slavery legislation, some of which became law, and used some anti-slavery rhetoric in court cases. However, he owned upwards of 200 slaves himself, freed only 2 during his lifetime and 5 after his death, was reluctant to lend his stature to abolitionist groups, and had a proven sexual relationship with a woman over whom he had complete power. So against slavery, perhaps in theory, not quite so much in practice.
Obama @!$%#s up every time he speaks
Yeah a lying congressman is ok? Typical dumcrat stuff Hey what planet did you just land from??? stimulus??? are you kidding Obooba has spent 6 trillion dollars and we are headed for a depression. Dumcrats were calling for Bush's head when gas went over 2 dollars a gallon why is it no one is saying anything about that? Maybe you think its ok to spend spend spend and then come up with a lame plan to tax the rich. Your kid their kids and generations to come will be paying for the Obooba financial mess. And oh by the way were are the jobs the 6 trillion was supposed to get??? Please show me the jobs. umemploment rates are worse now than when Obooba took office. Weiner is a disgrace he needs to go!! Amazing you think everyone cheats and lies, speaks volumes about you. Sell your bridge to Obooba. OMG!!!! Obooba must go!!!
Have you ever visited Earth?
I'm so tired of hearing aboout PEE WEE, and read about bachmann.....I've been trying to think of five reasons.
Robert: Apparently you're having a spelling problem....it's President OBAMA and Democrats. It's pitiful that Republicans have to resort to calling names instead of coming up with intelligent conversation. As for gas prices, the President has NOTHING to do with the price of gas in the U.S. -- you need to talk to the speculators that "play" with gas prices in the futures market. You need to research stuff before you start babbling on line and blaming things on people that have nothing to do with the situation!
5 reasons to take Bachman seriously.
2 Billion reasons not to.
