Pawlenty: Obama a ‘champion practitioner of class warfare’

Tim Pawlenty accused President Obama of being a "champion practitioner of class warfare."

“Elected with a call for unity and hope, he's spent three years dividing our nation,” the former Republican Minnesota governor, who’s running for president, said today at a speech on the economy at the University of Chicago. “And fanning the flames of class envy and resentment. To deflect attention from his own failures. And the economic hardship they have visited on America. "

Pawlenty took a dig at President Obama, asking the crowd about the "recovery summer" that the "President said we were having.” Noting unemployment and the nation’s debt, Pawlenty said the "president needs to enter economic rehab. And the American people need to stop his policies. Cold turkey."

Pawlenty proposed an overhaul of the tax code, calling the current on “anti-growth" and that "it's main goal --- seems to be to generate campaign contributions. Not jobs." He suggested the rate be reduced from 35% to 15%, adding that it’s "littered with special interest handouts --- carve-outs --- subsidies --- and loopholes." He said that a reduction would "reduce cronyism --- favoritism --- and government manipulating markets for political purposes."

Pawlenty later called for what he termed "The Google Test," and said that if the American people "can find a good or service on the Internet, then the federal government probably doesn’t need to be doing it."

He also called for the elimination of the U.S. Postal Service, the Government Printing Office, Amtrak, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

"The post office, the government printing office, Amtrak, Fannie and Freddie were all built for a different time in our country,” Pawlenty said. “When the private sector did not adequately provide those services."

Pawlenty gets more pathetic as time goes by. He just needs to fold up his tent and go home and watch the grass grow.

I know, it's hysterical, since Romney pretty much IS Obama!

The American electorate is ridiculously fickle, don't take that poll to mean a darn thing.

I was amused to read a comment from one of the rep/t.p. persons that the democrats started to make peace with the Chinese. It happened to be Richard Nixon, when he was president. he also froze wage increases, which pleased the industrial Oligarcs. He also made a mistake ,in their view, by attempting to go to the next logical step, by attempting to hold prices at the price that would not cause a serious recession That was why he was attacked and forced to resign. The present crisis has been caused by outsourceing,so that the c.e.o,s and their cohorts can continue and even increasing their obscene looting of the companies that they are supposed to be manageing.

Perspective! A poll represented by Republicans polling republicans. I saw this on Sunday on Meet the Press I had to find the poll. Enjoy!

The Pew Research Center and the Washington Post teamed up to find out how America feels about the current (possible) candidates for the Republican party's 2012 bid. The top response was unimpressive, perhaps because it was the most polite way to say many of the other words on the list.

"Thinking about the candidates running for the Republican presidential nomination, if you had to use one single word to describe your overall impression of this group of candidates, what would that one word be?" The question was left open-ended, with no suggestions given, and researchers grouped variations on a word (e.g., dislike/don't like/unlikeable) together in their count. Of the top five responses, only one was positive:

                      unimpressive

                      disappointing

                      weak

                      good

                      incompetent

Other popular responses included pathetic, unqualified, idiots, confusing and hopeful. Multiple people also put it simply as "blah."

Why is it, as a lower middleclass individual, I have to pay 100% of my taxes (which amount to 35% of my paycheck) while the rich, who make MUCH more than I and are not living paycheck to paycheck get to pay less than that? For example, if you make over $250,000 a year, you are not taxed on ANYthing over that amount so the percentage of your check that goes to taxes keeps getting smaller until it's practically nothing. Given a rough estimate, if you made 1 billion dollars a year, you would pay a tax rate of 0.0000875% while the rest of us making $250,000 and below have to pay 35%.

I just think it's curious why the rich owe so much less than the rest of us when the rest of us are the ones making them rich. It seems like they would owe us more for busting our asses for them and getting paid absolute @!$%# by them.

Warren Buffet himself said that it was stupid for people like him to get the tax break from the bush tax cuts. He said then in December that it was a bad move for America to extend the tax cuts to the rich. At least he was honest enough to say it.

I'm sorry, Rob, but are you insinuating that Buffet's situation is exceptional? The truth is our current tax policy has the illusion of being progressive. However, factoring in the myriad loopholes, exemptions, etc. and the fact that much of the income taken in by the truly wealthy is in the form of capital gains - taxed at a mere 15% - the middle class does in fact pay a higher percentage of their income in federal taxes.

and yet the rich STILL pay the vast majority of taxes; and the bottom roughly half pay NO federal income tax. go figure

These statistics are easily found by doing a Google search in regards to how much time each president spent on vacation. But that's obviously too much work for a group that spends most of their time perpetuating lies in chain e-mails...can't go thinking for yourself. Just continue to think that the right is forcing those goddamn lazy asses out there to get a job or starve to death. What kind of @!$%#ing @!$%# thinks this way?

eclipx01....there is a simple answer to that. You need to get richer so you pay less taxes. It's a free country...what's holding you back?

The question wasn't why can't I make more money... it was why, when you're rich, you pay less of a percentage than everyone else. Are you saying that getting rich is not only its own reward but you get rewarded on top of that as well?

                                            #62.3 - Tue Jun 7, 2011 5:40 PM EDT

That's right. You said it eclipx01! Yes the system needs revamping...so why not use it to your own advantage in the meantime? Even poor Americans are mega rich by worldy standards. At some point rich people took a bigger risk or made a larger effort than most of us do for the opportunity to become rich. (aside from Lotto winners) Taking more of rich people's money and putting it into the hands of politicians to spread among us average and poor folks is not going to make us that much richer...it will only dilute the proportion of Rich vs average and poor. Who does it really help in the end? The politicians...not us.

There's plenty of hypocrisy in both parties. The problem is that people like Sheila have been brainwashed into thinking that it only exists in one party but not the other. It's not class warfare that we should be worried about but the political, ideological warfare that is going on in this country. That is what is really dividing the U.S. This country has become so politically divided that it's really a political civil war now. Democrats and republicans are acting like they want to literally eliminate the other from the face of the earth. And it's not just politicians but voters too. If the voters would just wake up and stop letting the politicians in both parties brainwash them then we may see this country get back on track. But as long as there is this political, ideological warfare continues then this country will continue decay.

Now there is a political Party just for our society's pathological liars, megalomaniacs, the delusional paranoids, swindlers, con artists and compulsive gamblers - the Tea Party. Add in the Christian Taliban, mass marketing experts like Karl Rove, et. al., and you have the determining factor in who the next Republican nominee for President will be, a wannabe King or Dictator.

He's also correct with respect to the lack of need for the agencies he listed. They really are unnecessary and every single one of them already requires enormous government subsidies which of course aren't government subsidies at all but "taxpayer subsidies".

I'm not necessarily Pawlenty's biggest fan but he has to be given credit for identifying specific things he'd do opposed to the non-specific blathering of many politicians of any or all parties.

( I don't work for corporate America. I'm, in fact, a very small business man.) But look, these international businesses exist to provide products and services and to generate profits for shareholders. And, most of us who work or are retired from an occupation are indeed shareholders of one or of many of these corporations with overseas holdings. Why do these businesses outsource jobs? It's easy. The leading reason is to reduce labor and production costs. They can also gain access to better employees and are incentivized to outsource by tax breaks. Outsorcing certainly creates a problem for Americans. The fix isn't to bash the companies, bash the liberals or bash the conservatives. Don't you think maybe we should instead create a better environment here for doing business, i.e., more competent employees, better education, increased productivity, less bureaucratic red tape, improve internatiional trade agreements, competitive pricing, tariffs, etc. It's the old idea: "Build it and they will 'stay'."

                                                                                          OK, so I tried it....

And Pawlenty - who knows so little about the whole subject that he fell for a well-known zombie claim (killed by facts, but still shambling along) about soaring government employment - is hardly qualified to lecture anyone else on the issue.

So ... who you gonna believe? A Noble Prize winning economist or a guy who aimed Minnesota's economy toward the cliff and then jumped out of the car before it got too close to the edge?

Whenever T-Paw opens his mouth there's Pawlenty of BS to go around....

Property Taxes are up, schools are cash strapped because he delayed payments to "balance the budget" and infrastructure is crumbling.

California is the home base for Reganomics, and three two term Republican Governors including Ronnie, 24 years of tax cuts and Real Estate booms/busts. All the Red States are in deep financial trouble because they let the Real Estate booms go unchecked and bloated their budgets depending on increased Property Tax revenue to make up for the tax cuts. Lower Property Taxes let the Realtors and Speculators jack up the prices, flipping houses raised the prices thus the property taxes, now that was a Ponzi scheme handed to Wall Street on a silver plate. Lower Federal Income Taxes gave Real Estate Developers more money to gamble with, less Government oversight/regulation let everyone laugh their way to the bank, cashing in before the bust.

Watch over the next 4 years what happens in California, a Dem Governor, vs Florida with a Tea Party Governor and Legislature.
