Obama vs. the economy… New WaPo/ABC poll finds Obama trailing Romney among registered voters, 49%-46%... But is Romney’s boomlet temporary?... Warning: Beware of national polls this far out; Dole was beating Clinton at this point in the ’96 cycle… Obama on Afghanistan: “It’s time for the Afghans to take more responsibility”… Pelosi calls for investigation into Weiner, but not his immediate resignation… Pawlenty unveils his “Google Test” at 11:00 am ET speech at the University of Chicago, calling for elimination of governmental entities like the U.S. Postal Service and Amtrak… Newt Gingrich: Wanna get away?... And Romney’s in Detroit, while Santorum is in Iowa.
*** Obama vs. the economy: If you needed any more proof that President Obama is running more against the economy than the Republican field, just look at the latest Washington Post/ABC poll. Conducted during the worst economic news the White House has encountered since last summer, the poll shows Obama trailing Mitt Romney by three points among registered voters, 49%-46%, and tied among all respondents. The reason: Romney outperforms Obama with independents. More from the poll: “Overall, about six in 10 of those surveyed give Obama negative marks on the economy and the deficit. Significantly, nearly half strongly disapprove of his performance in these two crucial areas. Nearly two-thirds of political independents disapprove of the president’s handling of the economy, including — for the first time — a slim majority who do so strongly.”
*** Romney's short-term boomlet? That said, Obama leads all other potential GOP candidates in the poll (Palin, Gingrich, Huntsman, Pawlenty, and Bachmann). But is this as good as it gets for Romney, at least during this phase of the Republican race? Consider that he has carefully limited his exposure over the past few months, even admitting to CNN’s Piers Morgan that overexposure is his “greatest enemy.” (But being president or even the front-runner for the GOP nomination is the definition of being overexposed.) And outside of the jabs he received last week from Palin and Giuliani -- who might not even run in 2012 -- Romney hasn’t been attacked by top Republican rivals, like Pawlenty or Huntsman. Yet. Per the Washington Post/ABC poll, “The Massachusetts health-care plan enacted under Romney remains a potentially serious problem in the former governor’s bid. By nearly 2 to 1, Republicans oppose the plan, with strong detractors far outnumbering solid supporters.”
*** The White House can take comfort in this: In case you were wondering, back in March of 1995, Bob Dole was leading Bill Clinton, per a Los Angeles Times poll. And in June of 1995, a Newsweek survey found Dole leading Clinton, 49%-40%.
*** “It’s time for the Afghans to take more responsibility”: The Post/ABC poll also finds a majority (54%) believing that the war in Afghanistan isn’t worth fighting, although that percentage is down 10 points from March. And in his interview with Hearst yesterday, President Obama appeared to be leaning toward a steeper drawdown from Afghanistan, as yesterday’s New York Times foreshadowed. Said Obama, “By us killing Osama bin Laden, getting Al Qaeda back on its heels, stabilizing much of the country in Afghanistan so the Taliban can't take it over, it's now time for us to recognize that we've accomplished a big chunk of our mission and that it's time for the Afghans to take more responsibility." Read that again: The president said "we've accomplished a BIG CHUNK of our mission" (emphasis ours).
*** Sex(ting), Lies, and Videotape: From our vantage point, the biggest political result from Weiner-gate is that it distracted Democrats' message for an entire week. Instead of the GOP's Medicare plans, the Hill story of the week focused on Rep. Anthony Weiner's lies, followed by his never-ending, choked-up admission of sending lewd online photos and messages. Agree with his politics or not, John Boehner did his party -- and its overall message -- a favor by immediately pressuring the Chris Lees and Mark Souders to resign. Pelosi and team, by contrast? They allowed the Weiner story to linger, just like they did for Eric Massa (remember the Glenn Beck ordeal?) and Charlie Rangel (who twisted in the wind for months). Pelosi did call for an Ethics Committee investigation, but such an investigation has the potential only to pro-long the story. What happens if an investigation of Weiner, six months or a year from now, uncovers anything else? “We do not need an investigation to know he lied and acted inappropriately,” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement. “We need a resignation.”
*** Rogue’s gallery: All that said, consider this: In the past year or two, five rogues in Congress have been exposed -- John Ensign, Eric Massa, Chris Lee, Mark Souder, and Anthony Weiner. That’s less than one percent of all members of the House and Senate, and that's not a bad ratio. Then again, three of these are from New York state. What’s up, Empire State?
*** Pawlenty’s “Google Test”: At 11:00 am ET from the University of Chicago, Pawlenty delivers a speech on the economy and government. Per excerpts, he will propose cutting corporate taxes (“We should cut the business tax rate by more than half. I propose reducing the current rate from 35% to 15%”); creating just two individual tax rates (10% and 25%); and eliminating the U.S. Postal Service, Amtrak, and the government printing office (“We can start by applying what I call ‘The Google Test.’ If you can find a good or service on the Internet, then the federal government probably doesn’t need to be doing it”). Our question: Does Pawlenty realize that UPS and Fed Ex don’t deliver to some rural parts of the country? How do you ensure mail for those folks? The real issue with the Postal Service is Congress' inability to allow it to make smart business decisions (like raising postage to a realistic level of say one whole dollar?!?!? Or shutting down some post offices). Similarly, private companies -- unless they’re given a generous subsidy -- are unlikely to provide passenger-train service outside big cities on the East and West coasts.
*** Does the math add up? A Pawlenty spokesman emails First Read, “The Google Test highlights government programs and parts of government programs that are clearly duplicative of services now also provided by private sector.” And here’s another question: Does Pawlenty’s math add up when you cut individual tax rates, and still leave the popular home-mortgage and child-credit tax deductions? Budget experts, take out your calculators….
*** Wanna get away? Yesterday, we discovered that Newt Gingrich had taken Southwest Airlines' ad campaign ("Wanna get away?") to heart and has been on a Greek cruise over the past several days. All candidates go on vacations, but how many of them have gone on a cruise just weeks after announcing their presidential bid? Fair or not, Newt’s vacation only feeds the perception that he’s not all-in to win the GOP nomination, but instead simply wants ALL-IN on the debates and conversation to so he can stay relevant as an author and commentator.
*** On the 2012 trail: Elsewhere today, Romney is in Detroit, where Democrats will gleefully use the headline from his Nov. 18, 2008 New York Times op-ed (“Let Detroit Go Bankrupt) against him… Santorum, the day after announcing his presidential bid, is in Iowa… And Buddy Roemer is in Louisiana.
Countdown to Iowa GOP straw poll: 67 days
Countdown to NV-2 special election: 98 days
Countdown to Election Day 2011: 154 days
Countdown to the Iowa caucuses: 244 days

It’s too late baby now, it’s too late… though you really did try to FAKE it!
For the sake of party unity Rep. Weiner should resign immediately!
He has betrayed the public trust by not coming clean when this story originally broke.
I’m incensed that by him not doing so – he’ given reliability (even if it’s only a sliver) to a scum bag like Breitbart! Who gets a perverse sense of pleasure in ruining people’s lives!
Now if only our MSM would do a little investigative reporting on whether or not these ‘lovely’ ladies were compensated in any way for turning this ‘evidence’ over…
I am SO looking forward to all the FR regular lefty liberals condemning Weiner’s lying about his wiener pictures and calling for his resignation. Of course, Charlie Rangel lied on his tax forms for years and his constituents re-elected him. Apparently being a proven liar is no bar to being reelected for a Democrook politician.
From Politico:
Report: Weiner coached woman to lie
By: Jennifer Epstein
June 7, 2011 08:47 AM EDT
Rep. Anthony Weiner encouraged a porn star to lie about their on-line relationship and offered her the help of his public relations team, according to a report on Tuesday.
Weiner sent emails to former X-rated performer Ginger Lee – to whom he’d previously acknowledged sending innocuous messages via Twitter – coaching her to deny that they had been communicating, reported TMZ, which obtained the messages and says the two had exchanged “scores of sexual emails over a long period of time.”
“The key is to have a short, thought out statement that tackles the top line questions and then refer people back to it,” Weiner is alleged to have written in a June 1 email. “Have a couple of iterations of: ‘This is silly. Like so many others, I follow Rep. Weiner on Twitter. I don’t know him and have never met him. He briefly followed me and sent me a dm (direct message) saying thank you for the follow. That’s it.’”
The next day, Weiner asked Lee if she needed assistance in crafting a message to put out to the press and public. “Do you need to talk to a professional PR type person to give u advice? I can have someone on my team call. (Yeah, my team is doing great. Ugh).”
It’s not clear, though, if Weiner was referring to having someone on his congressional staff help her – which might violate House rules – or wanted a private sector PR consultant to help Lee handle press inquiries. House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi said on Monday that she has ordered an ethics probe of Weiner and the New York Democrat said he would cooperate.
At his Monday press conference, Weiner said he had not asked Gennette Cordova, the Seattle college student to whom his inadvertent public tweet was directed, to lie. “At no time did I or any member of my staff try to do anything to cover anything up,” he said. “There was no coaching of any sort going on.”
He didn’t answer the same question about Lee, though he did say that his staff did not ask any women to lie for him.
But, according to the emails obtained by TMZ, Weiner did ask Lee to lie, on June 2 offering her a statement to provide to reporters: “I have nothing to do with the situation involving Rep Weiner. I follow his twitter feed. And for a brief time he followed me. Much has been made of the fact that I have posted about my admiration for Rep Weiner and his politics. All I can say about that is that I’m a fan of his. Rep. Weiner sent me one short direct message thanking me for following him. I have never met Rep. Weiner and he has never sent me anything innappopriate (sic) …”
On a brighter note there’s this:
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)
– Just minutes after Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) held a press conference to admit his culpability in the scandal involving pictures of his penis sent via Twitter, thousands of women claiming to have received such photos took to the streets of the nation’s capital to demand reparations.
Traffic snarled for miles around the Capitol building as the streets filled with the penis-photo recipients, whom police sources said ranged in age from 21 to 22.
While there was no official count of the marchers, Fox News estimated the size of the crowd at
twenty million while MSNBCsaid the number was closer to fourteen.
But with the number of women traumatized by Rep. Weiner’s penis growing by the hour, Beltway insiders worried that if the women’s demands for reparations prove successful the Federal debt ceiling might have to be raised by another ten trillion.
“Just when we’re trying to fix the budget, one big dick comes along and wrecks everything,” one congressional aide said.
Mandy Pantella, 21, a cheerleader at the University of Northern South Florida, said she joined the protest after receiving as many as twenty unwanted photos of Rep. Weiner’s penis per day: “I got more spam from his penis than I do from Apple.”
As for Mr. Weiner’s performance at today’s press conference, Ms. Pantella was noncommittal: “It’s tough to know what he was really thinking because he was standing behind a podium.”

GF you and I usually agree, this time I happen to take a different opinion. I have a very dim view of the scum bag Breibart whom I believe set up Weiner justo get back at Weiner for JUSTICE thomas
Republicans sitting back, munching popcorn, blogging and tweeting about…... what the president is not doing.
Ya’ll know it really sad, sad times when Americans must listen to rat brains like Sarah Palin and Michelle Batwom historical facts Rather than Scam are being contorted and stretched into myths in order to pacify the stupid and insecure.
Thanks Breibart (I see he found his way to a razor) for bringing the info. The lie was so good to that slime bag Breibart because to Breibart it was unprecedented.
FACT CHECK: Santorum omits key details on deficit

Another bad week so far for the Democrats. Economy? Down. Housing? Down. Weiner-gate? Exposed. Edwards? Indicted. Debt ceiling? Still no Democratic plan. FY2012 budget? Still no Democratic plan. But Obama keeps the drum beat of his economic policies going. “We’re on the right track” says Barack. “Just a few bumps in the road” says Barack. Sure Barry, everyone believes you.
Looks like Ed Schultz picked a bad day to come back from his suspension.
Rep. Weiner is a legislator. He had zero clue how old these women were. He trusted them that they were adult age. He trusted them.
People love to play games in today's world and you can't trust people you have never met, let alone send photos like these. Briebart now says he has an x-rated photograph of Weiner.
What the hell was he thinking? What if these "adults" were just kids? Can you imagine? He would have been arrested.
On this we agree 150% BUT Weiner LIED and continued to LIE his way out of the mess he created!
He will never again be trusted and therefore is no longer a 'pit-bull' for Democrats.
He needs to go and until he does he's fodder for right wing nit wits and late night comedians...
Really very sad when you stop and think about throwing away a promising career over some crotch shots...
Goolsbie is gone. Jared is gone. Romer is gone. Summers is gone. Orszag is gone. The new Washington Post/ABC News poll is out with devastating news for this administration and the economy. The dead cat bounce of getting UBL is gone. If these guys were so great, don’t ya think the president would have used his influence to request the college presidents to extend the tenure track until the country is back on its feet. What lame excuses.
“By 2 to 1, Americans say the country is pretty seriously on the wrong track, and nine in 10 continue to rate the economy in negative terms. Nearly six in 10 say the economy has not started to recover, regardless of what official statistics may say, and most of those who say it has improved rate the recovery as weak.”
http://patdollard.com/2011/06/abc-newswashington-post-poll-obama-loses-bin-laden-bounce-romney-beats-him-60-say-economy-has-not-started-to-recover/
The poll also shows that Romney – who has been called at best the worst flip-flopper – is shown to be able to beat the president. So all the name calling, religion bashing, etc. has not worked to this point. The leader of one of the largest Tea Party groups has come out and said they will support any Republican candidate opposing the president. So all of you who say the Tea Party faction is a controlling influence in the Republican Party should be worried. Maybe that is why the president has targeted the largest campaign war chest in history to beat such a “rag tag” group of Republicans. At least he has a better handle –not much – on reality than the infernal bloggers on here who seem to relish in the ability to dominate (still can’t determine how since they are commenting at least 20 minutes before the story even appears on my screen) and patting each other on the back. The most absurd concept is that your tripe is influencing the world. LOL! Really? Seriously? Oh wait a minute I hear the med cart coming down your hall to give you a double dose.
The newsvine monitors will not suspend the worst violators of the COH here but suspend someone (ME) for calling a person an ignorant toad and that was the first and only time I did that because I thought it was accepted when looking at other posts. The monitor will not respond to my questions as to why those who have been reported for equal violations are not suspended as well. If you want to squelch the appearance of collusion, then responses should be forthcoming. Justice should be even handed no matter what side of the aisle you sit on – wouldn’t you say?
The Ryan Plan has been demagogued and blasted but with no substantive alternative given. It has done what I said it was intended to do – a starting point for debates and negotiations. Listening to Gov. Rendell and Rep. Connie Mack talk this morning, there can be compromises with calm, intelligent adults involved. The One-Cent Mack Plan has a well thought out approach to the deficit spending problem.
http://www.onecentsolution.org/
Someone on the left has a proposal of adding a one-cent tax on everything purchased that would go straight to reducing the debt. I believe it sounds like a great compromise, because the debt ceiling WILL NOT be raised unless the president agrees to spending cuts. Period. End of story.

Rep. Weiner is a legislator. He had zero clue how old these women were. He trusted them that they were adult age. He trusted them.
Republicans sitting back, munching popcorn, blogging and tweeting about…... what Weiner did.
Consider it my bleeding liberal heart. Weiner yes he was stupid; but he is still a man thinking with his p--is instead of like a genius.
Has he lost his credibility to fight for the causes of the progressive movement I think not. He made a mistake stupidly. He can survive. I listened to Lawrence O'Donnell and re-enforced my opinion.
As a Republican I am not sitting back munching anything. I do not relish in seeing a person reduced to such a low point in his life no matter what he believes politically. He should resign and the democrat leadership should nudge him out.
Interesting news from the home front: the Maine legislature (majority Republican) has tabled the so-called "right to work" law supported by our Teapublican governor, LePage, which would allow non-union workers to benefit from union negotiations without paying a fee. The legislature tabled the vote because it did not have the votes to pass it, thanks in part to the 600 union members who made their voices heard.
Thank God people are pushing back against the right wing agenda at the state level, even as the Tea Party dominates the national scene.
Pat:
So happy to see you back on FT. I trust the tornado missed your neck of the woods. I always enjoy your sensible comments.
Pat from Boston---how about your Bruins?! What a game. Is there any word on the injured player---what a cheap shot that was.
Yes, Weiner WAS stupid, but Pat makes a good point that if these were minors he had sent his exposed genitals to, it would have been more than embarrassing. In NY State, if a minor sends a picture of him/herself naked, THEY can be arrested for "kiddie porn." Hard to believe, but apparently the laws haven't kept up with technology. (Unless they have recently changed the law)
My philsophy is that since I'm NOT a world-class hacker, I am discrete about what I mention. Apparently our elected officals haven't gotten the message as it is hidden behind-EGO!
How many times do these bastards kick you in the teeth before you say, "I've had enough!"? Weiner lied to all of us - not just to his wife, to his constituents, Republicans, or Democrats. He lied to all of us.
I have gone through literally thousands of comments on Weiner's betrayal - and yes, that's what it is - in any number of fora, and if there's one general comment that comes up repeatedly, and it speaks to the sickness of this country. It is this: "All politicians lie." Yet, the posters turn out on one political subject after another and fulminate about what's right and what's wrong. How do you do that, when you acknowledge that your political information sources are liars? How do you know what's true and what isn't?
If they "all lie", how do you decide how to vote? Does your candidate lie less than the other? How do you know? They all lie, right? Why would you vote at all, if you think they all lie?
I understand it's hard to escape that conclusion. Based on the attacks on civil liberties, it's clear that Republicans lied about job creation being the number one issue. Based on the lack of a serious alternative to the Ryan assault on Medicare, it's pretty clear that Democrats are lying about seriously addressing the solvency of Medicare in its current form. Based on the constant descent into debt, it's pretty clear that Democrats AND Republicans are lying about being fiscally responsible.
If they lie, and we know it, how honest are we when we continue to send these liars to Washington and to state houses across the country? As always, in the final analysis, the blame lies squarely on our shoulders.
We could end this. We could eviscerate the win-at-all-costs mentality, we could destroy the Citizens United decision, and we could actually have a government we trust. We must have public financing. We must elect accountable and honest representatives.
That Weiner has boldly lied to us and then refused to step down tells us everything we need to know about the corruption of our government.
Not that I don't enjoy posting comments about sex all day, but, it seems to me, that a Democratic Representative, from a safely Democratic district, getting trouble for online sex talk, has zero to no affect on issues that affect the make up of the House, or jobs creation, or me, so, enough, already.
Obama says he looks in the mirror for answers on the economy. He needs to call someone that actually has created small business.
They would tell him jobs have left America not for lower wages but to escape costly government regulation.
They would tell him to reign in the EPA and OSHA. Manufacturing jobs have left America so now they are out to shut down house painters and window washers. Imagine the new rule for fall protection when you are on a ladder above six foot. Look at the EPA required dress and protection for house painters.
It would be funny except it is true.
The Hoover Dam would never have been built with those agencies around.
The Presidends economic front man - used to spin the administrations economic plan. Got tired of having to tell lies everyday. Why be on the front lines of the economic disaster when you can do an easy teaching job instead?
I believe he should resign. I think he has credibility issues when his maturity level is that of a 13 year old and his credibility is shot. I don't care whether he was "set up" or not, he is still culpable for his own actions. My heart goes out to his family and the embarrassment they are going through. In this day and age what the heck are these guys thinking (goes for both sides of the house). Their ego's have overridden their common sense of decency.
*** Obama vs. the economy?
The story isn't that Obama will run against his economic record, the story is more like the contest of Obama's ideological agenda vs. (against) the economy.
Like the Miami Heat vs. the Dallas Mavs.
Lebron Obama was tried to slam dunk HCR down the throat of economic recovery.
D.Wade Salazar has trapped the energy industry's production.
Barack Bosh has played crippling, smothering defense that has demoralized business/investment .......
Over half the country already hopes these guys foul out before the second half starts.

You should be chocking right for lying with your mouthful, hopefully it'd pop corn. The FY2012 budget is sitting in the office of the GAO.

You right wing nut-tards can gloat. But like the President said it's just a bump in the road.
THE FACTS on the economy: estimates of part-time workers who want full-time work and "discouraged" workers who want jobs but have quit looking. Economists recognize these types of workers. But they are not included in the Labor Department's monthly unemployment rate, a widely cited statistic that stands at 9.1 percent.
President Obama has already proven the lies you bring untrue ; yet you still insist upon being a hindrance. How un-American of you.
I can forgive the offense; but I cannot forgive the LIE. What is wrong with these people? Why do they feel the compulsion to do a MEDIA blitz refuting a verifiable FACT?
So, much as it saddens me to say this,...Weiner should resign. But so should Vitter. We know Vitter's stuff was illegal,...at this point we don't know if what Weiner did was illegal; but we DO know it was in poor taste, judgment and all around BONEHEADED.
Are there any decent people left? Would ANY of them be willing to run for elected office? Perhaps we are getting the government we deserve when we celebrate the Housewives, My Alaska, The Jersey Shore and the Kardashians? I mean here is an entire 'brand' of people who are famous for being trashy and slutty. Perhaps that is why others behave poorly?
No,...there is simply NO EXCUSE for this kind of BS.
So when Weiner speaks to the issues in front of the House, speaks to the issues concerning job creation, will you believe him? Is Anthony Weiner a man of integrity, a man you know to be trustworthy, and man that you know will tell the truth?
If you're not sure, ask his wife.
Anthony Weiner can stew in the mess he made and the ethics committee must investigate him immediately and let the chips fall where they may. Ensign didn't resign until just before they threw him out, Vitter didn't resign Enough about Weiner, Breitbart--this country has serious problems and however disgusting Weiner's behavior has been, you can bet Breitbart and republicans love the distraction.
While the press and FR posters spend time talking about this--the fact the GOP plans to kill medicare, that they have no jobs bills, that they have no plans for economic recovery beyond blaming our President is being ignored and the GOPTP likes nothing better than being ignored while they do their deeds.
bob numbers,
What a stupid, ignorant post!
While the sentiment may have merit, to compare the Miami Heat's Lebron James, Dewayne Wade and Chris Bosh to Obama is absurd.
All three are immensley talented superstars ...... the top of the field.
Obama is a clueless community organizer ........ COMPLETELY OUT OF HIS LEAGUE!
mORON.
Old Fat Guy Maybe if those two agency's were around there may not have been 114 killed building the dam either. Think of that.
Yay! It's THIS vs. THAT Day!!!
Obama vs. the economy (economy wins)
It's moral relativists vs moral equivocators (Both losers)
Feigned outrage vs. indefensible hypocrisy
Loony Libs vs. crazy Cons!
I love the CIRCUS...
How can you blame Weinier? Have you seen his wife?
That woman is UGLY!
Anthony Weiner, good congress man, am never going to call you names neither will i judge you. if you decide to stay in congress, it ok with me and if you decide to resign, still ok with me. you are not the first and you will never be the last. those infallibles calling you names, pointing fingers, saying you've made their none existing days or dems are having bad week, I'll say to them, take a deep breath, yes he's a US congress man but Anthony Weiner is fallible. he is HUMAN. It is them that i am disappointed at. mocking another man's fall. they are the holier than thou. some of whom choke on their own messed up lives. Anthony Weiner, i will only come after if you don't do the peoples job. That's the only reason your there in congress and you've proved to be one of the very best among your pares. wish you and your family the very best.

Indeed, that is great news because if left up to the GOP/T-Baggers they will try to bring this to a state everyone in America lives in. But, the people are pushing back and unlike the old song "the revolution will not be televised; this time we'll see the people pushing back on TV. I love those tent cities in Wisconsin keeping an eye on Gov Walker.
I can see them popping up all over to prevent the gulag the GOP/T-Baggers minions from destroying freedom, the right to collective bargaining, women rights, voter suppression, and cuts in education.
Republican pigs vs Democratic Pigs!!!

To offer some clarity, we’ve broken the scandals into categories, and graded them Cook Report-style. We also ranked all sex scandals overall, using a methodology that accounted for whether a crime was committed, versus inappropriate behavior; whether the charges were proven, versus alleged; the level of office held; and whether the incident involved children, staff, a cover-up or hypocrisy.
Prostitution
This category combines both those who solicited a prostitute but for whatever reason did not accept—think former Idaho Senator Larry Craig—and those who went ahead and became johns. Republicans by a count of six-to-one have been involved in prostitution scandals. For our rankings, soliciting prostitution without accepting it was weighted slightly lower than becoming a john.
Solid Republican (6-1)
Staffer
There’s a clear abuse of power when a politician and his employee is involved in a sex scandal. Democrats, by a count of 16 to six, have seemingly leveraged that power imbalance more.
Solid Democrat (16-6)
Hypocrisy
Almost half the sex scandals we turned up involved someone saying one thing while doing another. The earliest example was womens’ rights champion Robert Packwood, who in 1992 was infamously slapped with several sexual-harassment and abuse charges from former female staffers.
Solid Republican (17-9)
Sexual harassment
Whether threats or phone calls, it’s mostly been Democrats.
Solid Democrat (9-2)
Adultery
Bipartisanship? More of a personal ethical issue rather than a legal one, the adultery category is the most populated, with Republicans and Democrats nearly even, with the Schwarzenegger scandal tipping the category to the Republicans.
Lean Republican (21-20)
Inappropriate conduct with a minor
This type of scandal indicates at the least a serious flaw or lapse in judgment. The most infamous example is former Representative Mark Foley, who exchanged sexually charged emails and instant messages with underage pages. Two Republicans and one Democrat have been involved in this type of scandal.
Lean Republican (2-1)
Sexual relations with a minor
Far more serious than above: the most serious charge, in fact, among all recent political sex scandals. Conviction carries more than a decade in jail, based on federal sentencing guidelines.
Toss up (3-3)
Out-of-wedlock child
Three Republicans have confirmed having children as a result of extramarital affairs, compared to one Democrat. Of course, Schwarzenegger is the latest.
Solid Republican (3-1)
Sexual assault
Six Democrats have faced allegations of sexual assault, compared to four for Republicans.
Lean Democrat (6-4)
Cuckolding
Republicans have had four scandals involving an affair with a married woman—compared to one for Democrats. The only woman on this list, Helen Chenoweth, created a cuckquean (who knew?) out of her lover’s wife.
Solid Republican (4-1)
Coverup
Either with money or behind-the-scenes wrangling or just weak denial lies, six Republicans have been caught covering up a sex scandal, compared with three Democrats, with payoffs ranging from $150,000 or a job for a spouse to, allegedly, $20.
Lean Republican (6-3)

Bob Seger said it best
"With only one thing in common, they got the fire down below!"
Beverly, I have to laugh that you, spewing your racist comments (Herman Cain) could come up with anything criticize Breitbart for telling truths. You've got nads girl.
Wiener is a wimp, sexting women? wtf? come on, at least have physical contact, a real sexual encounter with them. How can you get your jollies by sending pictures? Give me the real deal, true flesh and blood anyday over photos.
Maybe this is the reason the DEMs in DC have not submitted a budget proposal. This guy better knuckle down and get to work on the nations problems and devote some quality time to his wife and less time on the computer and in the gym working out his pecs, geez he is full of himself.
Good morning everybody.
I think this is a no brainer folks, Rep. Weiner should resign and put this little tempest in a teapot to rest. If he were a GOP/TP rep we'd be calling for his resignation. What's good for the goose is good for the gander and he needs to go.
Even though he broke no laws, he has betrayed the public trust by lying about it.
There is a bigger issue here and I hope everybody has finally learned the lesson (although I doubt it).
I SUSPECT (please take note of the word "SUSPECT" as in theorize) that when the whole story is told we will find that Andrew Bartbeit set this whole thing up. It smells like another one of his dirty political tricks.
I SUSPECT that Bartbeit was either trolling the house and senate dems Twitter and Facebook accounts using young women as bait OR he heard through the grapevine that Rep. Weiner had a weakness for text flirtations with young women on Twitter and baited his trap accordingly.
I SUSPECT the young woman in question is one of Bartbeit's operatives who encouraged Rep. Weiner to send those photos so Andy could jump up and yell "GOTCHA".
That does not excuse Weiner's behavior or the far more serious offense of lying about it when he was hooked. It doesn't legally constitute entrapment. But it is still a dirty trick from a reprehensible human being with a near fanatical devotion to stirring the pot and DESTROYING everything and everyone he opposes.
This is a sad, sad political world we live in when operatives like Andrew Bartbeit can spin their webs of deceit and capture well-meaning yet flawed individuals in his little traps.
Weiner got caught. He lied. He needs to resign. End of Story.
The rest of you need to realize that Andy is out there and you need to keep your pants zipped and your mind on your own business. Act right and Andy will curl up and die like the little spider that he is. I hope that poor woman in Georgia stomps that little spider good.
I feel sorry for Congressman Weiner and especially his wife and family. He might have weathered the storm if he hadn't lied about it. But he did and he's got to go.

Anthony Weiner, good congress man, am never going call you names neither will i judge you. if you want to stay in congress, it ok with me and if you decide to resign, still ok with me. you are not the first and you will never be the last. those infallibles calling you names, pointing fingers, saying you've made their none existing days or dems are having bad week, I'll say to them, take a deep breath, yes he's a US congress man but Anthony Weiner is fallible. he is HUMAN.
Thank You Pius
Those are exactly my thoughts. The man was a bachelor and play boy. He married late in life. I hope by now he has learned his lesson. Rachel Maddow did a graph last night. If you plot Weiner, his offense is not greater than the others; depending on how subjective one can be.
Anyhow, it's over. Breibart has been vindicated (maybe?). So let's talk about what will effect the American people such as Jobs which the Republicans, including Breibart, have a penchant to avert.
I SUSPECT (please take note of the word "SUSPECT" as in theorize) that when the whole story is told we will find that Andrew Bartbeit set this whole thing up. It smells like another one of his dirty political tricks.

WOW! What an amazing post!
It's Conspiracy theorists vs. their tenuous grip on reality!
Dearest Joe, you are SO late to the party. I did that yesterday, and even apologized to that snake Andrew Breitbart. Weiner had no business giving Breitbart the high road. He needs to go.
Now maybe you can call on David Vitters to resign for the discredit he did to his office and for making the same kind of stupid, compromising mistake.
She's not, but you certainly are. In your SOUL. How dare you come out here and say such a stupid misogynist thing? By the way, they're newlyweds.
This blog is search a perfect example of the left and right fighting for their side to win at all costs. This country is totally f'd and it's not because of Obama or Bush but rather because politics have become black or white with no gray in between. Neither side is right all the time but people here and in DC act like this is the case. I'm pretty sure nothing is going to change anytime soon and the country is going to crash and burn as a result. Wake up, people.
Respectfully disagree. He put himself in a compromising position. He used his office to meet these women, whom he never would have known otherwise. The woman he tweeted the picture to is from Seattle. He lied to his colleagues, to the media, and to his family. Not once but many times. He allowed himself to become a target for Andrew Breitbart. His judgment was extremely poor. Any one of those women could have blackmailed him at any time. He has done discredit to his office, decreased his credibility down to zero, and diminished his standing in the House.
Resigning is the honorable thing. Staying would be much worse. Who will trust him now about anything? Andrew Breitbart and the rest of the right-wing media will never let this rest.
By the way, you're wrong about it being a safely democratic district. It's not. And that's another sad by-product of the mess that Weiner created.

I do too. The caveat here is Weiner's seat may be redistricted away; anyhow.
What sucks is that one party is driving us into the ditch... and the other party wants to take control so they can drive us into the other.
Meanwhile the fanboys and fangirls snipe each other.
This Weiner reporting simply is intended by the lefitist media to distract hard working citizens from the fact that Obama and the leftists have driven the housing market to its LOWEST levels since THE GREAT DEPRESSION (1931), printed $$$trillions INFLATING gas and food to levels NOT SEEN SINCE THE 1970s, have destroyed America's healthcare system while desparately trying to keep it afloat through the 2012 election cycle by granting waivers, and continue to REPRESS oil and gas production IN THE UNITED STATES and the export of foood from the US corn belt. Hard working citizens need to ignore the Weiner circus daily Obamalies and FOCUS on EXACTLY what Obama and the leftists are DOING ON A DAILY BASIS to transform this Country to a Communist Facist hybird (the leftists just LOVE hybirds) where the Party Elite PICK THE WINNERS AND LOSERS and richify Wall Street, Unions, Health Insurance Companies, Big Oil and other democrat special interest groups.

Big D, what I do professinally is INVESTIGATE. I am an investigator. All investigations begin with an allegation or a discovery of wrong-doing of some kind, you begin gathering information, talking to witnesses, reveiwing records. If you do not solve the mystery with the information you gather, then you enter the "theory" stage where you begin to test various theories and see if there is any evidence to support them. You slowly weed out your viable theories from those without a leg to stand on and you gather more information. I follow leads and suspicions until I find that piece of evidence or that witness who can solve the case. Sometimes it's easy. Sometimes it's hard. Sometimes it's impossible.
Given Andrew Bartbeit's know MO (motis operandi) this sounds like something he would do. It looks exactly like one of his dirty tricks. He seems to have been the original source of the information and he seems to have an awful lot of information. So, I suspect that he was behind this from the beginning.
There is no conspiracy theory here. This is just standard investigative technique being applied to a tempest in a teapot tabloid-worthy issue.
It doesn't change the fact that Congressman Weiner lied and it doesn't mitigate the circumstances. He should resign.
I'm merely stating what many people already suspect, it's another Bartbeit dirty trick.
The next time you want to comment on something I write, try to educate yourself a little bit first and try not to read your own prejudices into what I say. I clearly stated no entrapment occured, no laws were broken and that I SUSPECTED that Bartbeit was behind it from the first. I'm entitled to my opinion. Your spin is without justification.

Weiner has done the Republicans a great favor by not resigning. Now that Nancy Pelosi is no longer in charge of the House, she cannot cover it up like she did for other Democrats. It appears that the Democrats think that their 'sleazy' political hacks should be protected at all costs.
Boehner, who now heads the House, will make sure that the investigation is very public.
PS - I think it's ironic that Bill Clinton performed the marriage for this 'sleazebag'. I wonder if Hillary has flashes of Deja vu.

Beverly in Chicago - "Breibart whom I believe set up Weiner"
He set him up? Really? How did that happen? Did he go get these girls for Weiner?
This is how far our country has fallen we don't blame the person that lies, we blame the person that calls out the liar.
Thank you so much, the 10% or so of you silly, blind fools that just look straight past Weiner's open, unilateral admission of guilt in an effort to continue to try to blame Brietbart.
And please whatever you do, keep it up. It will make this so musch more fun, and keep it alive for so much longer.
So thank you Bev., and Skip and Puis. And to a lesser degree thank you, the other 20-25% that can see Weiner was the bad actor, but look to others to justify or assign some portion of blame. Because again - the guy flat out told the world he is indeed a big fat liar, whose pants were on fire for over a week.
But no, that just cannot be enough for the Maddow's and O'Donnlls of the world. Fancy charts and silly arguments about the failing of others in no way justifies, or diminishes Anthony's conduct.
But looky at big Eddy "I hate women" Schultz - came out of his hole and nailed Weiner to his wall.
But Feisty and Pat and others keep it up, as it just continually highlights not only Weiner's short comings, but also the absurdity of the blame other approach you all so seem to enjoy.
So onward you great Weiner soldiers. And thank you so much for the fun that you bring to the table.
I normally come on here and chuckle at all the nonsense written. The polarization is so obvious on a daily basis that for days like today to happen is rare indeed. I have to say that for one of the first times, it appears that the liberals are showing some reasonable approaches. Given the amount of normal one sidedness, today is a banner day for centering. The right isn't ridiculing Weiner and the left has capitulated (for the most part) that the real issue isn't what Weiner did, but the fact that he lied about it.
There are a minimal amount of collapses which tells me that both sides are being fair. It would be far more constructive if the looniness in discussion would dissipate on a regular basis. While a lot of us may disagree on some core fundamentals politically, today brings out a wonderful example that real discussions and opinions can be expressed without all the namecalling and banter.
Thanks one and all for a good show of restraint. This could have turned out a whole lot worse if some nutcase egged on the other side as usually happens. We need to strive for more days like this.

LADY JO

Spanky,
You still have that reading disability I see.
I never said Weiner was without fault. I clearly stated he lied and should resign. Period. Even though no laws were broken, he lied and needs to step down. Do you understand now?.
Dangerfield-you still get no respect. You fail to respond to my points and merely pick at my poor spelling. Oh well, what can I say, I'm the product of a public school education. But I note that you're kind of of Bartbeiter yourself aren't you?
If Weiner had not lied about it all of Andy's hard work would have amounted to nothing. Weiner's actions would be a personal matter between him and his wife and family. Nothing more. Sadly for the Congressman he panicked and Bartbeit gets to yell "GOTCHA" rub his dirty hands with glee.
Me? I don't use the spell check and you avoid having to respond to my point and giggle about my spelling.
Oh well, birds of a feather and all that.

It wasn't until he was caught that he quit lying and came clean! That my friends is not a mistake that is a calculated decision to mislead the American people.
Oh, I see what you mean. I keep reversing Breitbart's name because I used call him "Andy Fart Bites" before I reformed my evil ways. I can't get the rhyming reverse out of my mind.
And thanks Big D, for giving me a legitimate reason to use the name "AndyFart Bites" again. Hey, it just occurred to me you guys may have more in common than I thought :-0, Fart Bites, get it?

Spanky,
Your comprehension is quite lacking for you to say this...............But Feisty and Pat and others keep it up, as it just continually highlights not only Weiner's short comings, but also the absurdity of the blame other approach you all so seem to enjoy..........
Madison, you are lying. To blame Obama for this depression that is the closest to the Great depression is absurd. You expect him to fix everything in 2.5 years, with the GOP doing everything to make him fail, that it took 21years to fix the last time.
The Republicans wants to take credit for everything good while blaming Obama for everything bad. If you notice, the worst unemployment are in the Republican Governed states. I wonder why? They are playing games with the debt ceiling to create "uncertainty", while blaming Obama for not giving "confidence". They blackmailed to get cuts for the wealthy so it would trickle down and create jobs, so where are the jobs.
They blamed Obama for taking over car companies, but when they became a success they try to take credit. I am surprised they did not trot out the Bush/Cheney admin, to take credit for the al qaeda leader that was just killed.
The Republicans are owned by Big oil and Insurance companies. Ryan's bill support health insurance companies and they blocked the bill that would stop the government from giving away taxpayers money to big oil.
The Republican/Tea Party claim Obama can do nothing, because they are quick to take credit for everything he does right.
Bev in Chicago
You do know that the Senate voted DOWN the Obama Budget for 2012 97-0,don't you? Looks like even the Democrats in the Senate didn't like it.

It's the economy, stupid. Of course the poll numbers show a dip--gloom and doom is a nightly news event. The questions the press should be asking republicans is why have they refused to do anything to help fix the economy? They should be asking House GOPTPers why no jobs bills; what is their plan for economic growth? But no, instead the media allows the "it's President Obama's fault" stand without challenge. Has the media asked republicans in DC and in state governments if the budget cuts which caused layoffs of government workers impacted economic growth? Has the media reminded the public that cutting spending too quickly can result in double-dip recession? What tough questions has the media asked republican candidates? For that matter what tough questions have they asked republicans on the Sunday talk shows?
Since January 2009, the GOP has not been Country First but rather Party First, power first, winning elections first. I have been voting and watching politics since Richard Nixon was elected and in all those years, never have I seen a party as determined to not help solve the nation's economic woes as the republicans have been since election day Nov, 2008. They can pretend the massive debt was caused by President Obama and democrats. They can tell us how fiscally responsible they are but they are empty words because every action the GOP has taken and demanded has caused greater harm. While some debt belongs to democrats, the US was on the road to debt reduction when Bush took office--and it was squandered deliberately by republicans because they knew that if they starved the beast long enough, they would eventually be able to bargain for medicare and social security thus completing their privatization agenda. The GOPTP can speak and say how much they care about people but their actions say otherwise.
I once respected republicans for their conservative checks and balances but they no longer deserve respect because now it is all about power and winning--and they do not care how many Americans are hurt in the process. The debt is a problem but fixing the economy first will mean more jobs and have a much greater positive impact on debt reduction that all their spending cuts ever will.
I agree, Jody----the sad thing to me is that we'll never know how much better and faster the recovery could have been if the Republicans and certain blue-dog Democrats had taken the steps the President first proposed when he took office. They were too busy answering to their corporate masters and wishing for the downfall of President Obama to put country first.
Funny how MSNBC left out the other parts of the poll they didn't like:
"59 percent, a new high, gave Obama negative marks for his handling of the economy, up from 55 percent a month earlier.
Obama's approval rating on the deficit issue hit a new low of 33 percent, down 6 points since April."

Fact Checker Obliterates Obama Bailout Claims: 'One of the Most Misleading
Collections of Assertions We Have Seen ...'
The Fact Checker: President Obama's phony accounting on the auto
industry bailout By Glenn Kessler, Washington Post
"Chrysler has repaid every dime and more of what it owes American
taxpayers for their support during my presidency."
-- President Obama, June 4, 2011
With some of the economic indicators looking a bit dicey, President Obama
traveled to Ohio last week to tout what the administration considers a good-news
story: the rescue of the domestic automobile industry. In fact, he also made it
the subject of his weekly radio address.
We take no view on whether the administration's efforts on behalf of the
automobile industry were a good or bad thing; that's a matter for the editorial
pages and eventually the historians. But we are interested in the facts the
president cited to make his case.
What we found is one of the most misleading collections of assertions we have
seen in a short presidential speech. Virtually every claim by the president
regarding the auto industry needs an asterisk, just like the fine print in that
too-good-to-be-true car loan.
Let's look at the claims in the order in which the president said them.
"Chrysler has repaid every dime and more of what it owes American taxpayers
for their support during my presidency -- and it repaid that money six years
ahead of schedule. And this week, we reached a deal to sell our remaining stake.
That means soon, Chrysler will be 100 percent in private hands."
Wow, "every dime and more" sounds like such a bargain. Not only did Chrysler
pay back the loan, with interest -- but the company paid back even more than
they owed. Isn't America great or what?
If you voted for Obama in 2008 to prove you weren’t a racist, you’d better
vote for someone else in 2012 to prove you’re not an idiot.
Riase taxes on the wealthy and cut Goverment waste place tariffs on imports.. Bush tax cuts have been around for 10 years.. Look at where we are at. Tricle down BS..Unless we get jobs that pay a good wage and benefits. All you people who worry about entitlements have not seen anything yet. As poeple get pushed further down in wages and benefits more and more people will be seeking food stamps, health benefits and enrgy help along with help with rent or other housing expenses.. 'Entitlements' We my friends are just at the tip of the ice berg.. Unless this gets turned around.
So the story last week was that the GOP Presidential field was a bunch of doofuses that couldn't beat Obama. Now the story this week, when the doofuses are beating Obama, is that it’s “too early to matter”. So which is it FR?
Do the Carnival Barkers have anymore Gotcha questions for The Alaskan Wild-Dingbat", such as:
Where were You Born, How many Children do you have?
Them kinda Gotcha questions!
Palin's next book: Dreams of Paul Revere.
Pat---Paul Revere is actually going to ghost-write the book!
I tell you what since you feel that Sarah Palin is such an embarrassment to this country, let's agree to move the borders of the U.S. to the pre-January 3, 1959 borders to rid ourselves of this embarrassment.
Palin is so conservative, she probably thinks the British abandoned us.
I like how Fox tried to call Palin out on being factually wrong on Paul Revere. She replied that she was actually correct and knows her American history, and that her answer what a candid response to some trick "gotcha!" type question.
So what was this question?
"How was your day and what did you take from it?"
Maybe one of these days, Romney or Palin or whomever will be asked to provide some specific plans they have. Right now, every word they say is criticizing President Obama and nothing more. I have yet to hear any of them tell us HOW they would fix the economy beyond the usual cut taxes for business and the wealthy, spend less and small government. That's worked so well since the 1980's.
The Republican rhetoric right now is disgusting. Its all mudslinging and demeaning language. "Obama is destroying America. "We need to fight Obama from stealing our freedoms." "Our president is an incompetent leadert"
It may give them a political boost now, but once it's seen that all these candidates have is tasteless words and no propositions. Even the most right-swinging Republicans will get tired of blatant and hate-filled rhetoric with no plans on their plates. The GOP has shown no serious of determined candidate thus far.
Jeff P-14
What do you mean "right now?" The Republicans have spent the last two years in campaign mode, turning every issue into an opportunity to attack the President, smearing his character, questioning his legitimacy. Yeah, they've been real helpful in getting the recovery back on track. I agree, thinking people are sick of the negative rhetoric from the right.
Both feisty, with the red wig and bev, the chicago organizer have been experiencing severe casse of 'foot in mouth' disease these last few months! Istn' there a point where you put old horses out to pasture? Just like the future of Weiner the whole concept of 'hope and change' has quickly morphed into 'despair no change for even a cup of coffee' for Americans!
We are forced to wade through another 18 months of sewer waste before we can reverse the disasterous liberal agenda of this administration! There's nothing, absolutely nothing Obama could do to even slow down the runaway freight car that is the American Economy.
Don't you people recognize yet that the big government dream at the expense of the private sector is a travesty? Putting words like 'stimulous' in front of spending bills has just been a code word for flushing $s down the toilet! Hiring thousands more government employees to process and distribute welfare checks and food stamps is counter productive. Giving people jobs will spur the economy and give Americans and increased sense of self worth and value, not making it easier for them to get food stamps! A socialist agenda just won't work here.... capishe?
It's hard to take solice in the Dole/Clinton comparison, since that poll did not include those who supported Perot, who many feel was the reason why Clinton won re-election. That said, perhaps history will repeat itself with a strong third party Tea Party Candidate, ala Bachman or Palin who will syphon away enough of the right wing votes from Romney, and put Obama on top.Â
I watched Romney on Morgan's CNN show last night and I got chills...not the good kind, because this guy appears to be watching old footage of Reagan in order to evoke not just his policies but his image and likeness.Â
FR......It is 17 months til the 2012 election, why would this poll mean anything? 12 months from now it will mean something and that lenght of time is a lifetime in politics.
Because it's the first time any republican candidate has polled better than Obama. Which means FR must discredit the poll in order to keep people from thinking any republican has a chance to beat their hero of course! What a joke. Obama polls better than every republican and its "Well Duh! Of course he's going to win reelection" but as soon as a poll goes the other way its" Well polls don't mean anything this far out". SO predictable its actually funny.

Another economic adviser gone. That's not good for this administration. With Americans focused on the ecenomy, unemployment, Deficits and job creation having yet another member of the team leaving looks bad.
As for Weinergate, he's going to resign, mark my word, because of the chilly reception he'll get in Congress...no one will want to work with him on anything...he'll become so ineffective, he'll realize it's all over...then he can get a job as a political commentator on cable news like the rest of the cheating former politicians.
Two words: Charlie Rangel. Both Charlie and Tony are liars and cheats. Both are narcissistic, cunning, and deceitful. None of these traits is a disqualifier. Neither will be asked by their party leaders to resign. Both will remain in Congress.
Joanna give it a rest! What about the Repubs caught cheating on their wives, paying off the husband, soliciting sex in airport bathrooms, going to strip clubs, etc.? this kind of behavior transcends party affiliation, unfortunately, and it's just plain STUPID for anyone to try to use it to bash the "other" party...a mere diversionary tactic. Let's focus on the real issues, please.
Calm down Lynda - That's all that is being said is Tony, just like his good friend from New York Charlie, isn't going anywhere. Pelosi asked neither, at least in public, to resign. And she won't. Instead, Nancy has called for an "Ethics investigation" of Weiner, which will take a year or two, and will end just like with Charlie.
Unfortunately, the Weiner issue is a small break from the Democrats having to come up with a FY2012 budget (The Senate has none and voted down Obama's 0-97) , a plan to reform Medicare (Democrats are MIA again), a plan for raising the Debt Ceiling (no Democratic plan for that one either).
Romney is a perceived by GOP mainstream as the "sane" candidate with business experience and he has been a Governor. Business experience doesn't count for much if you consider George W was a businessman. He owned the Texas Rangers and was an oil executive. That experience served him well, didn't it? The shine will wear off the Romney apple as he tries to explain his flip flops, radical change in positions and born again Tea Party values. Also, I really don't think this country is ready for a Mormon President. As someone said, polls this early mean nothing. It's a measure of whose popular now. Talk to me after Iowa and South Carolina and Florida.
People love a good sex scandal. Guess that's why our esteemed politicians are providing one a week.
Finally, Afghanistan. We need to get out. An orderly draw down of troops with the Afghan Army taking over a more active combat role. We need to protect the people that worked with us and collaborated with us cause if we don't and the Taliban regain power, they will be killed. No doubt in my mind. As much as I'd like to, you can't just pack up and go.
Oh, watched a NYC newscast last night. His constituents are disappointed but don't wan him to resign. He represents them so it is clearly their choice and their choice alone. His Mia Culpa to the Ethics Committee should be fun to watch and interesting to see how or if he is reprimanded.
I watched an interview with Petraus and Gates in Afghanistan last night, they both happily said it's President Obama's call. They are glad not to be the one making that decision.
The miltary has made great strides in securing Khandalhar (sp?) province. But now the attacks are along the Pakistani border. Gates is all for making a deal with the Taliban. He said modern wars do not end in "victory," like WWII. (Isn't it nice to have a Democratic President so the Republican Secretary of Defense is able to say that? Under Bush or McCain the Secretary of Defense would have had to stick to "these colors don't run" rhetoric.)
It's possible to not write Weiner off, I guess. I mean John McCain was rebuked at the youthful age of 58 for his involvement in the S&L debacle and they ran HIM for President,...
Anything is possible.
I want more written about Romney's business strategies to dismantle companies and jobs and sell them off for the parts. THAT'S a veritable ECONOMIC Apollo right there (snark off now).
When Obama announced the pull-out date in December 2009, he doomed any chance of a good outcome in Afghanistan ......... even stone-age tribesmen understand the point you make.
There won't be that many to protect. Every toothless goat herder has more common sense than Obama and knew the Taliban would win, would be there after Obama pulled out.
964 Americans have lost their lives under Obama - Double the number lost under Bush.
All for an insane community organizer's plan that had no chance of working.
What a sinful waste by Obama.
not sure what would constitute a good outcome for people like little bobby numbers,...
interesting you don't 'count' those lives lost in the pentagon or WTC, bobby. very interesting indeed.
Speaking of sinful wastes,...what took us to IRAQ in the first place? Don't bother, I've heard your spin before,...second verse, same as the first. Got keep spinning cuz' the facts get worse!
PS. I heard Osama bin Laden is dead,...
Funny,
I thought this article was about Obama and the economy.
And Romney is ahead in the polls over Obama. No surprise there. A dog would be over Obama right now. Liberals better start hoping for a miracle to boost the chosen one. The liberal media has lost it's credibility. People tend to look at the cold hard facts of their personal economy. their failed marriage, their kids having to wear the same clothes that they have outgrown. the raggedy shoes, the impending foreclosure, the growing mound of bills. Then they see Obama sucking up the Guiness in an Irish pub and having another mult-million dollar vacation. This makes them grind their teeth.
Edward,
If you think the Spent Treasury on the foible in Iraq has no relevancy to our current economic condition, you're ill informed, at best.
Sorry your marriage failed. I LIKE to see MY President being WELL received in other countries. It's called Diplomacy. He hasn't had to dodge any shoes, yet, so it's all good!
PS. I hope your dental plan covers mouth guards, with all that gnashing, you're gonna' need it.
Talk about poetic justice, the Wisconsin Republicans are suing over a secret tape made May 25 during their party’s monthly general membership meeting that revealed their plan to get around the recall elections by planting a spoiler Democrat in the recall for state Senator Kapanke. Yes, they are outraged.
Just imagine if someone had edited their secret tape to sound even worse than it did, spread it around to all of the networks, and they had lost their jobs because of it. Imagine, if you will, if they had been Breitbarted. Remember, when they do it, it’s “journalism”, even if they tell the people involved that they are not taping them and that the conversation is private.
The La Crosse County Republican Party plans to sue the person who made a secret recording of the group’s monthly meeting last week, when party officials discussed running a spoiler candidate against Democrat Jennifer Shilling…
Wisconsin law says it is legal for a person to record a conversation if one party gives consent. It also says consent is not required if the person being recorded does not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in that communication. Civil penalties for breaking the law could include fines and punitive damages.
The Wisconsin Republicans really hate and despise the law when it works against them, but when they feel wronged, there is no limit to the fine detail of particulars to which they will stoop. The GOP party chairman said that since the comments were made in a GOP meeting that it should not be recorded and the person who made the tape had broken the law.
Good to know. Certainly when one attends a monthly general GOP membership party meeting, one assumes a reasonable expectation of privacy. One does not have a reasonable expectation of privacy, according to conservatives, at private lunches, private medical meetings or on private boats. Clearly they are unfamiliar with the sting of a Breitbarted video and hence are unaware just how low this can go.
Not one of them denounced obvious efforts of Breitbart to take statements out of context via deliberate and distorting editing. So, the conservatives are all for entrapment and deliberate abuse of privacy when it benefits their cause, but against the transparency of having their party meeting recorded and revealed.
Wisconsin Republicans miss the irony of their suddenly being pro-law and order. Now they are against being secretly taped at a public meeting, but are for secret tapes being edited and played on national news which then cost the victim their job.
Hard to know exactly what people stand for when their values change depending upon which side they’re standing.
WOW Groucho! You really are a funny guy. Face it, no matter how nice a guy he is, Obama is a colossal FAILURE. We knew this would happen but were so caught up in the hype, the magic, the historical significance of our first non-wasp president that we deluded ourselves.
We elected a man with no experience, little training and certainly no organizational or leadership skills from the city most renown for its political corruption and expected him to fix our problems? We must have been insane.
The first clue should have been the media's adoration of him and lack of fact finding. When the truth is hidden it is a recipe for disaster. I don't blame Barack Obama... I blame us.
Skills or experience, like Palin, Bachmann or Santorum or Cain? They should take a literacy test before they vote. Even with his lack of training, he managed to ward off a second Great Depression , save the auto industry and the banks, slow job loss from the hundreds of thousands a month and saved millions of jobs. HCR is the law of land. He seems highly organized to me. Canyou point out an example of where he's deficient.
Tell you what. I'd prefer the smartest guy in the room be President and not the people competing on Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader.
Groucho, Groucho, Groucho. First, what about Obama's american history such as - I think I have visited all 57 states. As to the economy he has managed to drag it out for far too long. Admittedly, he had some support in congress to do that. He is starting to take some of the advice on how to get it going again, but is going far to slow. He obviously has been listening to the wrong advice in the past. Things such as at the beginning - "If you don't pass my stimulus bill unemployment could rise above 8%. McCain is not a favorite of mine, but hardly think he could have done worse.
CKSM..
Not going to get into a pissing battle with you. First, Obama immediately corrected himself about the states flub. He knows where Lexington and Concord are. He knows that the founding fathers did not outlaw slavery in the Constitution. He knows who Paul Revere is and can read and actually name books and newspapers and authors he enjoys. He made the decision to get OBL on just a 50/50 chance he was there. Ended the war in Iraq and is trying to drawdown the last 50,000 troops. Timetable for Afghanistan. As I said, he managed to ward off a second Great Depression , save the auto industry and the banks, slow job loss from the hundreds of thousands a month and saved millions of jobs.
McCain said during the campaign he didn't know anything about the economy. His chief economic adviser Phil Gramm is the man who pushed for deregulation of derivatives, which is what caused the economic collapse in the first place.
For God's sakes man. Read a book before making snide comments.
I have said for months that the next election will not be won by the far-right or the far left. It will be decided by moderates and independents. Their votes will be for whoever has a better economic plan.
President Obama is not a failure despite the conservatives who post it every day. One only needs to look at the accomplishments to know the truth but why discuss factual evidence when negative opinion works so well.
It is interesting that after the 2010 midterms, republican legislators and posters were eager to take credit--you know, business sees certainty now the GOP was in power in the House and gained Senate seats. Odd, since last Friday, the GOPTPers are now blaming our President again. Sorry, it doesn't work that way. What has the GOPTP House done to create jobs and improve the economy? What help have they provided the President? Would they be cutting spending drastically, blocking and obstructing everything if it were a President McCain? The GOP talks the talk, but they haven't walked the walk since 1981.
Well Lisa - if you look at any polls - the people in the US trust the Repubs 66% to 33% more on the Economy than they do the Dems - so it should be a landslide for the GOP according to your logic. I actually agree because the American people have woken up to 0bama and know that his economic problems are leading us to ruin. If you want to see how this plays out go look up the FDR history from 32 to 41 and read what his Treasury Sec. had to say about the fact that continuing to Keynesian spend caused the depression to last years longer than need be.
Groucho
I believe that Obama is stuck in a time warp also. Just a few days ago in England he that it was 2008.
Just can't get out of campaign mode I guess.
Did everyone else notice also. One good sex scandal and the rest of the world news stops so we can view dick pix and talk about them. Good that it's a quiet news day. Why do we love a bash a man (who deserves it) when he's down?
Arnold is rejoicing because Weiner and Edwards is stealing all of the attention LOL.
Groucho, makes one wonder for sure. I think too often the 24/7 cable media and people have been reduced to circus television instead of intelligent reporting.
Ensign is out playing golf or sitting by the swimming pool with Arnold too, while the spotlight's on someone else.
On Anthony Weiner:
Damn.
On "new" Republican plans that sound just like old Republican plans:
Damn.
On the chances of our politics ever being reality based:
Damn.
P.S. I am going on vacation with my family tomorrow . . . so be sure to get in your cheap shots today! :o)
Enjoy! You deserve it! ;o)
We'll be waiting for your return!
No one can drive the point home like my BFF Nash! ;o)
We will miss your voice here, Nash---hope you have a great vacation and return "fired up and ready to go." Safe travels, my friend.
I agree with you on all 3 "damns"---am especially sad about Rep. Weiner because he spoke out so well for the issues that concern us, especially on health care.
Feisty and Steeler Fan:
Thanks for showing a middle aged mom some love . . . always needed and appreciated! :o)
Who you kidding Nash?
You're the 'baby' of the group! ;o)
Though not my much! lol
You are wise beyond your years, Nash!
HEY FEISTY and BEV!! I believe you owe Andrew Breitbart an aoplogy after your rants yesterday. Or is there no honor among trolls? Do the honorable thing just this once.
BTW, it makes no difference if he paid 50 cents or 500,000 thousand for the pics.
Hi Nash.....have a great vacation, you are so deserving. Have a great time, we'll be happy to have you back as we will miss your excellent posts. Save travels.
You obviously didn't get the memo from yesterday!
Not only will I NEVER apologize for this piece of human excrement, I wouldn't SPIT on him if I saw him running down the street on fire!
Save your indignation for someone who gives a sh!t!
Have a wonderful vacation, Nashville. Good checklist you posted!
Nashville, have a wonderful and safe vacation. Enjoyed that check list!
Sorry for the double post--FR threw me out of the Thoughts thread the first time and nothing appeared--now there are two happy vacation wishes for double the fun.
FEISTY - Some people (and the things they say and do) are honored and elevated to what is commonly called a "class act"........just curious to see what you think your response immediately above is?
Hey Nash,
I'll double down on your triple damns. Bright Bart still is scum and time will tell if the dots to his door will ever be connected. Bottom line...Dumb thing Weiner did but he did finally fest up. No consolation prize for doing so. I feel for his family.
I'm headed out on vacation tomorrow too Nash. Driving from Dallas to Nashville to see my family there. Taking my weenie dog named Miss Kitty BOOM-BOOM with. She is a 13 year old going gray at both ends.
Well wishes for your quality time and safe travels!
Thanks Gingerbreadmama and Jody . . . I am really looking forward to a little R & R . . . seeing more of America the beautiful with my daughters and hubby . . . remembering that there really are a whole lot of good folks out here who never get in the spotlight . . . plus I can rest easy knowing that First Read is in very capable hands and will not be overtaken by factless trolls while I am goofing off . . . I think the best word to describe what I'm feeling is "WINNING!" :o)
Hey Missy . . . good to know Nashville will be in good hands while I am away . . . enjoy your visit and safe travels! :o)
I hear Sharpie markers can take care of that! ;o)
Enjoy your vaca - we'll hold down the fort in your absence!
Give me a shout out if you're ever in my neck of the woods - we'll do lunch or something!
alwaysfaithful: I've been tracking Feisty and Beverly and the rest of their group since way before I signed onto Newsvine. You will never get them to explain anything they say or give any meaningful dialogue. It's either far out left or it's nothing, and I usually let them go, but occasionally I feel they need to be called on their smugness. Then the group collapses me. I've tried to get Newsvine to look into that activity, since it's strictly prohibited but so far nothing. Maybe soon.
Nash stay away from the Windy City, gangs are beating up and robbing tourists on the waterfront. It is not worth risking your life to meet Feisty for lunch. No wonder she is on here all the timel she is hiding from the violence in town.
Just for the pious like Chuck, who continue to make unfavourable comparisons, between republican and democratic leadership and their response to bad behaviour, I give you two names. Vitter and Ensign
Please -- when in America spell words in our version. Are you from across the pond?
You saw what Boehner did to the guy in upstate NY - told him to resign within hours - and that was with just a bare-chested photo. This guy is sending porn and Piglosi is going to investigate him. Just watch his news conf. Nancy - he admits what he has done because Breitbart was sitting there.
Rangel, Waters and Weiner - the gifts that will keep on giving. Well 0bama will keep on giving as well because he is sorta the leaders of this band of misfits.
All we need to do is remind people of the Ryan budget, and that will be game and match.
Pat - 0bamacare also does away with Medicare and takes away $500 billion from it to pay for 0bamacare. Sr's are smart enough to kinow this already. The Ryan budget is at least a plan which can be tweaked. The Dems haven't put forth a budget in over 750 days. This won't be a Reagan vs Mondale type blowout but 0bama will win 13 Blue States plus DC. 0bama has turned Ohio, PA, VA, NC, FL very Red and he can't win without all those states. He likely won't win one of them. One term 0bama gets "shellacked" in 518 days.
Based on Pawlenty's "Google Test", what do we need him for? The internet is already full of disingenuous political hacks offering non-reality based solutions that create more opportunities for "corporate people" to suck us dry.
Wish I could vote twice for this one!!
If it doesn't involve stuffing more feather pillows under the lolling heads of the rich and corporate, the right will not touch it. And so we wait for the trickle that never even dripped.
So what are we to do if they gain the presidency because half of America continues voting against their interests? Romney is probably the least poisonous of the current group but he too will provide massive giveaways to corporations further eroding our revenue base. And he will have to kill nationalized healthcare as part of the Faustian bargain he would have to negotiate (is that possible) with TP interests.
If the economy doesn't improve I don't expect Obama to be re-elected no matter the candidate on the Right. Really looking forward to a few more years of Republican Rule (aka Hell on Earth)! (/sarc)
voxrationis
What First Read is missing is the current backlash against the Republican governors elected in 2010 in Florida, Wisconsin, and Maine (well, no one cares about Maine, except this may well dim the election chances of Olympia Snowe.)
"All politics is local." The right-wing agenda being enacted on the state level is proving highly unpopular. Oh, and teachers vote.
Now that the housing market and economy has declined lower than in 1931 during the great depression (virtually unreported by the press) it finally becomes obvious to all with eyes to see that when the lefitists said "jobs jobs jobs" they really meant "HJs HJs HJs" and when Weiner said he would "focus on jobs like a laser" he really meant he would focus on HJs like a laser AFTER ALL Elite Communist Party Leaders like Weiner and Obama drove the price of a college degree above $400,000 so students only can afford school with government patronage and history tells us what the elitists expect from the young girls
Another example that listening to Glenn Beck types too much causes brain damage. Acute paranoid delusion is one of the symptoms.
We don't want 0bama focusing on jobs because anything he focuses on (like a laser) goes in the toilet. Let him keep up his illegal war in Libya and supporting the Muslim Brotherhood. 518 days until we "shellack" the Dems again and put adults back in charge.
Black Belt,
Yep, 22 Democratic Senators come up for re-election this cycle. Republicans only need a net win of three seats to take control of the Senate. Then old Harry Reid can move to the back of the bus. Way in back.
Thre are plenty of great Republican candidates running. Let's see what their platforms are and which one will do the best job for ALL of America. C'mon 2012.
"Obama vs. the Economy"
Ringside commentary: Obama's pummling the economy with a combination of body blows, below the belt spending and roundhouse money printing, scoring a knockdown the likes of which has not been seen since the Great Depression. Round 1 to Obama.
____________________________________________________________________________________
Will hard working citizens get UP off the mat and FIGHT in round 2012?
Pretty sad but this story does not surprise me, it is about the average integrity and morality of 99% of our current politicians. Ron Paul is one of the only ones left that has integrity and has not lied to me, he has always done what he said he would and has a 30 year record to prove it.
Regarding Obama and the economy bit:
Not one of the idiots in DC are doing anything about the economy, none of them have made one move to make things better for Americans right now. Dems can't get anything done in the Congress, Repubs will not do anything for fear it will give Obama some victories and he will look better in 2012.
Commit to fixing the infrastructure > creates decent paying jobs > boost the economy when people make money because they spend it > larger tax base > deficit improves > economy grows more > collect revenue (Taxes) > deficit comes down more > easier to borrow money > people buy more things > new businesses get loans and create jobs > economy grows more > incumbents get re-elected...
It is an evolving process and one thing leads to another. OR
Do nothing in DC > economy gets worse > more people lose their job > economy gets worse > argue about everything agree on nothing > nothing happens > maneuver for 2012 > nothing gets done > economy gets worse > people lose jobs > CRASH!
Even though the usual liberal spin is all over this, the plain fact is INDEPENDENTS voted AGAINST the Obama economic policies last Nov. That is why the GOP picked up so many seats not just in the House, but in state elections all over the country.
Now despite what the ignorant clowns tell you, all the economic data is worse now than in Nov. NOTHING is going to change NEXT Nov. Keynesian economic policies have never worked anywhere. Obama will NOT win re-election solely due to the economy. Look at all the previous election and the one underlying connection has ALWAYS been the economy........
Except in the real world. For example: The many good conservative folks who work at Johnson Space Center in Houston and Kennedy in Florida no doubt believe that government spending doesn't create jobs, but they're sure whining about all the jobs that are going to go away when the Big Bad Gummint's space shuttle program ends.
Houston- stupid example as one has nothing to do with the other. Try some FACTUAL research and leave out the spin. All the European countries in severe debt now started using Keynesian economic policies years ago. The Govt started supporting everyone and made things tough on business. What was the result? You can deal in fantasy all you want and I will go with real world examples and results every time!
Larry, stupid response from you, after you stupidly claimed that there are no real world examples of Keynesian economics working. Now your knickers are in a twist because I actually GAVE you an example: NASA, which has had a profound positive impact on the US economy. As for Europe, the German economy, with its strong unions and welfare state, is doing fine, and the only European economies with truly serious problems are Spain, Portugal, Ireland, and Greece. And global crisis was started by the Bush administration's failure to oversee the financial markets in this country. Don't blame Keynes for the miserable failure of whacked-out Republican economic mythology.
Houston One country, Germany, does not qualify as a resounding success of the theory.
OK. Then how about Canada and the "socialist" countries of Scandanavia: Denmark, Norway, and Sweden? That's not enough? Then how about one a little closer to home: the US of A. under not only Franklin Roosevelt, but Dwight Eisenhower and other presidents up to Reagan, and then Clinton. The major federal programs started by Republican Eisenhower would be enough for the teabaggers to scream "socialism!" Yet the economy of the US in the 1950s was at its high point.
It does when they are the only ones applying it consistantly over the last generation of Germans.
German success is undeniable even in the face of the last 4 years. There are other successes too but none as thourough as in the current German economy.
The Republicans are steadfastly and cynically blocking anything Obama might try. The infrastructure is in need of major work, the workforce needs the jobs, but what are we talking about? Medicare.
In case you have no clear understanding of how democracy works, CONGRESS was run by the democrats since Pelosi took over as leader. Under Obama he had a DEMOCRATIC congress and could pass ANY legislation he wanted for the first 2 years of his Administration. So Democrats basically controlled EVERYTHING for four years and where are we now? Again, take the spin out and look at the cold hard facts. Good Lord some of you people are DENSE!
He did pass a stimulus, and working with the prior administration, the bailouts were passed. He saved the American car industry, launched infrastructure projects and cut taxes by almost 350 billion. Contrary to Republican belief it worked. Then the Republicans took over the house. And since then we have been talking about everything but stimulating the economy. Now the economy is slowing again. Where are the Republicans with stimulus ideas? Where is the next wave of infrastructure projects? Crickets.
Anything the House Repubs send to the house gets put on the side by Dirty Harry Reid. The people know who the problem is and the names all have a "D" after them - including 0bama.
Romney's business experience might weigh against him if the Democrats have enough sense to point out that the way he made the big bucks is through taking over companies and firing their workers. Romney is an expert in job destruction -- just what we need with the unemployment rate at 9.1%. He worked for a "management consulting" firm. He never ran a company that produced anything real.
Below is an article that describes Romney's potential problems that the corporate media aren't talking about. Yeah, I know the wingnuts won't believe it because was written by for AFL-CIO web site. But who cares? If a progressive told them it was raining, they wouldn't believe it even if the water was up to their necks.
http://blog.aflcio.org/2007/05/31/romneys-business-experience-firing-workers-hiring-them-back-at-lower-wages/
which is why I hope that when people learn more about Romney, they will like him even less...problem is that he's catering to the Reagan worshippers, as he tries to make himself out as the Second Coming of the Great One.
He seems to be a hard person to like. He's kind of an Eddie Haskel type, if you know about the old '50s "Leave it to Beaver" sitcom. He's comes off personally as a smart-alecky suck-up sort of guy.
Thanks, Houston, I've been bringing this up for two days now. I WANT Romney as the front runner. He is a corporate RAIDER not an economic genius.
And the Eddie Haskel metaphor is SPOT on. He was Pro Choice, before he was against it. He was Pro Mandates before he was against them. I am just waiting for him to convert to Christianity - he wants this so bad and doggone it, he's 'earned' it!
If the economy is the Key to the 2012 presidential run, then I hope to all that is holy that people will pull their heads out, and see Romney for what he is! We can not afford to have another 4 years of the same old spending in Washington. We need new blood, and a new agenda. I like Ron Paul, but pick any of the new blood you like. I'm sure they will out perform Romney. If the Choice in 2012 is left as Romney or Obama, then nothing changes!
Ron Paul 2012
I think Obama's message of "Wealth Re-Distribution" has really damaged our culture. Most of the money spent on the stimulus was wasted and offset by his constant attacks on banks, businesses and individuals making $250k+. It is unfortunate that we have a President so anti-business especially when unemployment is so high. I think we can all agree we need to: VOTE FOR CHANGE IN 2012!
What wealth redistribution? The only wealth distribution is from working people to wealthy people. And it's been going on since the Reagan years. How did you not notice?
I Graduated HS in 1980. Have been working ever since and have never collected unemployment once. I geuss you could say I havent noticed because I was too busy making my own wealth than worrying about someone elses. We really need new leadership in the Whitehouse. Falsta it isnt fair that Obama convinced you and others that your lot in life is the result of someone elses successes. This is a great country, we just need a better leader. VOTE FOR CHANGE IN 2012!
I haven't collected one cent from the Government and I have been steadily employed for as long as you have. But what I have noticed, and you seem blithely unaware of, is that during my adult life the tax paid by me (all taxes, not just income taxes) as a percentage of my income have remained relatively steady while the taxes paid by the wealthy as a percentage of their income (all taxes, not just income) have dropped by half. And it was all paid for by creating massive deficits. And now I am being told I must give up the entitlements I paid for all my life to pay down the deficit? The deficit created by lowering taxes on the wealthy? And now you want me to believe I am the free loader? There is class warfare going on here. But it's not being waged by the left.
Falsta, The wealthy didnt bankrupt the "entitlements" you've paid for. Those programs are paying too much for too many people who paid little or nothing in. Now they need reformed. Dumping more money in a failed system isnt going to fix it. But if you support a tax rate that is the same % for everyone regardless of income I am with you. ie you pay 25% everyone pays 25% etc....
Our economic problem: OBAMA
Why do you think all the economic advisors are leaving?
Obama's ideology, policies and uneven handling of ObamaCare, Financial crisis, stimulus package,
"green scam", etc...... makes businesses feel uncertain, and even consumers who have money aren't spending it because they don't know what to expect with Obama handling our economy.
UAW PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE
and the school teachers didn't sell worthless credit swaps on market exchanges. The money changers are the guilty; but they continue to play their games,...
And the Republicans want to blame the little guy. How absolutely perfect. My step sister recently villified democrats for being welfare queens. Ironic because she has four children by three different men and has had them removed by the state while she attended STATE sponsored rehab (no less than three times). Me, I'm like Falstaffmind, never received any unemployment or welfare money and have worked since I was 16. You guys just keep perpetuating the myths about who the victims are and who the criminals are. It's perfect really, because anyone paying attention can see who you side with.
Speaks volumes of your character that you were so busy concentrating on your empire that you didn't see the little guy getting pissed on,...shame on THEM for being dumb little victims. If they were only SMART like you, they'd never have to rely on YOUR tax dollars. We get it,...you are the only one to ever pay taxes and feel screwed by the government. I hope nothing goes wrong in your carefully laid out plans,...you might just have to rely on humble pie for meals. What a tragedy THAT would be.
Clara, What are you and Falst doing to stay employed and off welfare that your step sister and others couldnt do for themselves? I geuss if you want me to blame the banks, insurance companies, oil companies and the wealthy because your step-sister isnt taking care of her kids I can. Or we could reform the system and hold able bodied people accountable. Truly disabled is a diffrent story. As far as teachers go, you are climbing an up hill battle when you ask the tax payer to work year around until they are 70 so a school teacher can work 9 mos of the year and retire when they are 50.... LETS VOTE FOR CHANGE IN 2012
Doing everything I can to be the opposite of my dad. He's on his 5th marriage and he continues to find 'winners'.
I, of course, am on my only marriage. Two great kids, same dad - my husband. And I know this will shock you; but hard work.
That same tired pathos about school teachers only working 9 months? Really? That's what you've got in your brain trust arsenal? PS. They don't retire with full pay AND they aren't eligible for SS; but they are bilking you? Okay,...
Paul,
green scam", etc...... makes businesses feel uncertain, and even consumers who have money aren't spending it because they don't know what to expect with Obama handling our economy.
No dear, the uncertainty is caused by Republicans who are playing games with the debt ceiling. The President was grossly criticized for helping car companies and now Republicans wants to take credit. The stimulus worked, the Republicans handed out the checks and took credit for them. They also refused to use the money to create jobs, and then blame the President and claim that the stimulus did not work. Remember, the President can't create jobs, but Governors can.
Romney is a good business man but I don't think he has the best chance at beating Obama. Yes, we need for Obama to be ousted but the best man or woman to do it has not emerged. I would vote for Rudy Giuliani but he isn't running. I think the Democrats should have a primary just to see if Obama would be the favorite again. I would vote for Hillary Clinton over him in a primary election. We will have 4 more years of Obama if the GOP does not get their act together.
While I would not vote for hillary, I believe obama has screwed up enough that, hillary will probably be your candidate.
Hey lemmings...do you even know what Romney did in his great business experience? He consulted for a company that bought little companies fired half the people to make it look profitable and then sold the business...he only knows job destruction, not job creation!
Um, a monkey is on your back and an albatross hangs from your neck. Am I right on that?
obama voters, advisors, secretaries, csars are bailing in droves, his progressive agenda is becoming more and more exposed. obama is a failed union leader in chief, even trumpka is not going to support him, however acorn, seiu and the black panthers are circling the wagons.
I agree. Obama is THE PROBLEM. Our country is based on a freemarket system. Obama has done everything in his power to Kill our freemarket system.
Economists don't know how to manage a freemarket system that's changing more and more to a socialist system. There are different types of socialism.
But economists are thinking: make up your mind, are we freemarket or are we socialist.
You cannot manage anything if you don't know what you are.
Your are a socialist look in the dictionary and read the neaning.
Pat and Feisty
While it is refreshing to see that the two of you have jumped off the Weiner mobile, I think it also gives each of you an opportunity to reflect upon your outlook and mindset in supporting these idiots, like Weiner,in the first place. For example, Pat, you say that you never liked Weiner's grandstanding but not once, until now, did you come on this site and criticise Mr Weiner for engaging in such tactics. Had you and others, that routinely back those on the left and spin for them, done so, perhaps Mr Weiner would not have continued to engage in such tactics. You should also question your analytical skills, as it was painfully obvious that what Mr. Weiner was saying in all the denial interviews simply made no sense. At the very least you should have been calling for Mr Weiner to open his records and/or an investigation, instead of blindly supporting him while simultaneously trying to blame others for Mr. Weiner's sordid behavior.
Which is really the crux of the whole problem. Too many party hacks, like you and Feisty, are far too willing to blindly go along with what ever the party leadership spews forth, even if it is directly contrary to positions you previously supported. If individuals like the two of you, on both sides of the aisle, would insist upon our politicians sticking to their word, instead of spinning for them in slavish blind support, no matter what they say or do, it would go along way towards forcing these politicians to work the will of the people instead of working the people over.
While Mr. Weiner's down fall is tragic and an embarrassment to the country, it is relatively insignificant compared to the lies that have come out of Washington on issues of major consequence to the country. Take the current deficit spending crisis for example. Mr. Obama, with the full support of both of you, has in the past called for cuts/reforms in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. In fact, here are direct quotes from him:
Yet, despite all of his promises and rhetoric, he has failed to propose any significant cuts or reforms, in any of those programs, that will provide deficit reduction and balancing of the budget. Choosing instead to demagogue and fear monger the issue, in an attempt to score political points against his opposition, while knowing full well that failing to bite the bullet, and do what he himself has recognized needs to be done, will lead country into financial ruin. Yet, the two of you continue to back his every move and lie by daily spinning for him (and others) on here, no matter how blatant or obvious the lies get.
If those active in the political discourse are not willing to scrutinize and hold accountable those we support the most, than we can continue to expect that the politicians on both sides of the aisle will continue to try and take advantage of the unwillingness to hold them accountable. Are the two of you willing to do so, or are you going to continue to blatantly spin for and support those you hold near and dear, no matter how much they stray from what they promised to do? I suggest you start in a new direction, today, by requesting Mr. Obama to stick to his word and do what he previously said needs to be done to right our financial ship. Because the hull of the ship has been breached and is on it's way to sinking. We no longer have time for continued partisan hackery
King, stuff it. I have gone after Rep. Weiner long before this story came to light.
I neither need nor want your advice. I'm sticking with President Obama.
Why don't you reach out to Boehner and McConnell? Seems they could give a sh!t about this country.
I cant believe this. First it's leave our tax breaks alone because we need more money to create jobs. So Obama agrees and suspends it until 2012. Where are the jobs? Oh yeah,it's because of Obama's policy's but not the tax breaks of course. I think you guys make it up as you go. The states are struggling so the residents need to get them out of the whole. Making the people of the states pay more because of the government handing money over to the banks is just another way of taxing people. We wont call that a tax because republicans don't believe in taxing, they just get others to do their dirty work
I'll tell you what Pat, I'll lobby the Repubs to consider a small/moderate tax increase to be used exclusively to pay down the deficit, if you will lobby Mr. Obama and the Dems to stop deficit spending and agree to a balanced budget amendment. Here is a question for you. Feisty and Mr. Obama, Pat. Excatly how much more money does the Fed Gov.need, over and above the approximate $2.3 Trillion we currently collect in revenues, to run the government the way you and Mr. Obama envision the government should run? What's the cap? Or is the sky the limit with ever increasing taxes and deficit spending? Lets get down to the brass tacks!
If ANY of you fools think that Romney or any of the other clowns and ding bats have your best interest at heart you are truly fools and if any of them happened to get into office because of 99.9% of all your prejudices - don't complain when you end up in the soup line / no health care / social security or anything. Obama is the best out there and smart as anyone in this so-call political BS. As far as the twittering congressman - get a grip - who cares what these wierdos do in their spare time. You people on this so all moral rampage should have enough of judging people - judged Clinton on his morals and you got the idiot from Texas that put this country in the trash can and its GOING TO TAKE MORE THAN A FEW YEARS TO GET OUT OF THIS MESS. WHAT JERKS YOU PEOPLE ARE!!!
It is not possible to cut deficit, reduce spending and still have a healthy economy. Spending cuts, austerity measures will be deflationary. Many people are lucky to have a job and that is temporary. Private borrowing has stopped. We are deleveraging. That is deflationary. Boomers will retire. That is deflationary. To stop deflation, government is borrowing / printing and spending money. That has limits. Budget deficit is funding almost 50 million jobs if we consider the velocity of money. There will come a time when we cannot borrow anymore and all that is left will be a mountain of debt and no jobs. It is a double dip recession:
www.kondratieffwavecycle.com/double-dip-recession/
There is not much Obama or anybody can do. Money supply will deflate to sustainable levels. An entire nation cannot borrow non-stop, inflate the money supply with it and then hope that all will be fine when the pay back time arrives.
King - DOUBLE stuff it!
Out of one side of your mouth you call for an end to partisan politics, while your entire dissertation was nothing more than a partisan rhetoric!
Typical right wing double talk...
Obama/Biden 2012!
:)
Yeah, Obama is doing an amazing job with the economy! Let's give him other 4 years to try. Maybe by 2016 he can get unemployment under 9 percent.
Face it. Your rookie president lost his second term from day one of his presidency when he made Health Care Reform a priority over Jobs Creation. I was laid off in October 2008 and although I'm a Republican, I was really excited to see a new President take office. I was sure that solving the unemployment problem would be his top priority. After all, it seemed like the biggest "NO-Brainer" for any President. I mean, coming out of the worst economic down turn since The Depression, putting Americans back to work would be his #1 goal from day one, right? WRONG.
For his entire first year, all we heard about was HEALTH CARE REFORM. By July of 2009 I was still unemployed and living off small unemployment checks that were a fraction of what I used to earn. Still, the newspaper headlines always involved HEALTH CARE REFORM. I started wondering why those headlines didn't say OBAMA FOCUSED ON PUTTING AMERICANS BACK TO WORK. Then, we had to endure the controversy of "YOU LIE" and all the other BS while Americans were being laid off in HUGE numbers each month.
Obama pursued his own agenda without any regard for the hardships being put on the American people. I'm not saying that Health Care Reform isn't important. It is. But putting food on my family's table WITHOUT federal assistance is MY #1 PRIORITY. I wish we had a president that felt the same way. Instead, he made Health Reform the priority and simply extended unemployment benefits putting this country further in debt.
ANYONE BUT OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!
@King -- that was a very well thought, lucid, polite and adult post. It's too bad that you had to direct it at those with minds of children. Stuff it? Double stuff it? Childish and immature.
KingK
I'm afraid your lobbying efforts for decreased spending won't be any more effectual today then they were under King George's reign.
PS. I see we've heard from the "Immediate Gratification" constituency. Why hasn't Obama Fixed in 2 1/2 years the WORST economy in 75 years? I want MINE! and I don't want you to have YOURS!
whatever,...Exactly, Feisty, exactly!
And I see Clara is representing the continue to blame Bush but defend Obama faction quite well. Obama has made things worse not better. That's not opinion, it's fact. This is the guy that convinced everyone that he was the right person for the job, that he knew exactly what to do to get the country on the right track. Never did he say during the campaign, if things don't go well cut him some slack because it might take a while. But of course now that he's failed his entire message is to keep blaming Bush while making excuses for his own failures. And people like Clara have been brainwashed into supporting that junk. Obama has failed just as much as Bush did but of course people like Clara just want to blame Bush, even though he's been gone for 2 1/2 years while making excuses for Obama. You can't have it both ways. You can't blame one guy and then make excuses for the other guy even though they've both failed equally.
Apparently in the world where you get to write your OWN facts, that is fact; but according to this article,...you are pretty much making up your rhetoric to match your lies:
http://www.economist.com/node/15599453
By they way, how would you know what he said on the campaign trail? You weren't plugged in. In fact he said many times the road would be long and the climb would be steep. Where were you? Instantly gratifying yourself somewhere?
Let me use a little analogy to sum up your superior and ever so MATURE rebuttal:
What if I bought my sixteen year old a used car. I kept it in maintenance and insurance. It was UNDERSTOOD in the house that when that child graduated and went to college the car would be passed along to the now fourteen year old. This is basic family economics. Are you telling me that when the now eighteen year old completely totals it two weeks before graduation my now sixteen year old can't be pissed off about it?
Well, sorry, I don't roll that way. Blame goes where it's earned. And it stays there until that person acknowledges and apologizes. I don't recall Georgie Boy pulling a full mea culpa,...so yeah, I am still not over it. Why are you? And how on earth in your dream state to you say eight years of failure is equal to two and a half years of questionable? Failure is having a surplus when you walk in the front door and squandering it so that you have to slink out the back door in shame, eight years later.
I see your 'Facts' will sustain you in your dream state; but me, I am still cautiously optimistic. Thank you VERY much!
Bush said,
"I'll be long gone before some smart person ever figures out what happened inside this Oval Office."
We are still figuring.
"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."
He certainly harmed his people and his country.
Am I correct in remembering that an albatross hangs from your neck and a monkey rides on your back?
